This paper presents the results obtained by INMA Bucharest, following a research project, in which a technology for harvesting and storing industrial hemp was developed. The equipment for harvesting green hemp stalks intended for this technology was tested in an experimental plot grown with Dacia - Secuieni hemp. Operating indices (actual torque at the power take-off, traction force at drawbar, total effective power to operate the equipment, working speed, effective working capacity) and working qualitative indices (stalk cutting height at lower knife and upper knife, degree of stalk cutting, stalk diameter, the average length of the stalk cut without inflorescence). As a result of the analysis of the values obtained for the operating indices and qualitative working indices, a series of pertinent conclusions and observations resulted, which will help guide harvesting and storage practices to ensure quality requirements for hemp fibre production are met.

Recommender systems represent tools capable of providing suggestions based on large datasets or collections of objects in the user’s area of interest. Career recommendations have become more and more popular, as they are able to offer guidance and help people build their most suitable future professional path.

Artificial levees have major importance in protecting human lives and infrastructure as they are essential elements of the flood protection measures. Nevertheless, the lack of the necessary information about their structure and internal composition might cause high risks. To monitor their stability, integrated surveys are needed, including geophysical and geotechnical methods. Levees along the rivers in Hungary were constructed more than 150 years ago, and they were heightened several times; therefore, investigations are required to assure their performance in flood risk mitigation. Our investigation aimed to utilise non-invasive geophysical techniques, primarily electrical resistivity imaging, with the validation of geotechnical investigations to map and compare the compositional and structural variations of two very different levee sections along River Tisza and River Maros. Integrating the analysed drilling data with ERT profiles showed that the main composition of the investigated Tisza levee section is fine and medium silt with an average resistivity 30 Ωm, however, the investigated section of Maros levee was built of not only of fine and medium silt but also of medium and coarse sand exhibiting higher resistivity values reaching up to 2200 Ωm. Several physical parameters were measured to study the nature of constituting levee materials like moisture content, grain-size, porosity, bulk-density, saturated hydraulic conductivity, and resistivity. It was found that most of them show a connection with resistivity, but the hydraulic conductivity did not show a direct connection, however the latter could exhibit the aquitard nature of Tisza levee materials and the non-aquitard nature of Maros levee materials.

Tuberculosis, one of the ancient infections that especially affects humans, the main target organ of this disease being the lung, is caused by M. tuberculosis and remains one of the most important public health problems, especially in developing countries. The emergence of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis is considered a serious threat to tuberculosis control worldwide. The burden of drug-resistant tuberculosis remains increasing in countries endemic for this infection. The risk factors that influence this situation and that are elucidated more frequently in the specialized literature are the abusive use of drugs, the failure of the therapeutic regimen, the relapse of tuberculosis, the difficulty of obtaining drug sensitivity testing in a fast time. In Moldova, but also in other regions of Eastern Europe, drug resistance represents a serious obstacle in the effective control of this disease. There is evidence that the transmission of resistant strains, as opposed to the acquisition of resistance mutations through inadequate treatment of drug-susceptible tuberculosis, is the main driver of the high level of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis in these countries.

This paper summarizes the results of a recent geophysical investigation carried out at Porolissum, which is considered to be one of the most significant Roman sites in Romania. The geophysical survey was carried out within the latus dextrum of the fort, which is the same location that had been the subject of earlier geophysical surveys as well as older archaeological excavations (1970s) that had uncovered a multiroom building. A cesium vapor total field magnetometer and a multi-electrode resistivity meter for a dense Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) survey were used. Eighty parallel ERT profiles in combination with the emerging total field magnetic data and an antecedent magnetic survey allowed us to complete a more precise interpretation regarding the building that once existed on the left side of Porolissum’s Principia (the commander’s house). In contrast to the magnetic survey, which only reveals a part of the building’s architecture, the ERT survey provides a comprehensive view of the structure’s layout. More than 20 rooms could be positively identified, and the existence of further rooms might be deduced from the data. The ERT scan revealed the existence of the building’s northern external wall as well, which is not reflected on the magnetic map. Because some parts of the building are not visible on the magnetic map, we can assume that the building was constructed with at least two types of rocks (magmatic and sedimentary). In addition to the archaeological interpretation of the geophysical anomalies, a number of discussions concerning the connection between our survey and the geology of the area were held. The complementarity of the magnetic and resistivity results prompted us to conceive a preliminary 3D reconstruction of the building. Even if the building function is unknown in the absence of reliable archaeological data, it could have been a storage building, a second praetorium, a valetudinarium (hospital), or an armamentarium (weapons storage building). The illustrative reconstruction was completed taking into consideration that the building was a Roman military hospital, which, based on the available data, may be considered a credible assumption.

Peripheral nerve lesions represent debilitating conditions that determine sensitive, motor and associated psychosocial losses, deeply and severely affecting the quality of life. Despite adequate microsurgical repair, functional results are variable and often dissatisfying. This study aimed to analyse and discuss peripheral nerve lesion cases from our clinic, involving the upper limb, an anatomical segment with impactful functional importance. We followed the distribution of nerve lesions throughout a three-year period, describing the patients’ characteristics and the therapeutic protocols. Furthermore, we reviewed the relevant literature to identify potential therapeutic strategies that may help optimize functional results. In the presented clinical study, most of the patients benefited from direct microsurgical repair of the nerve injury. However, we had a series of cases of nerve defects that could not be approached with primary repair. When a nerve cannot be repaired by direct neurorrhaphy, there are different options for bridging the nerve gap, each with its indications and advantages. Autografts still represent the gold standard in treating nerve gaps, but other procedures, such as vascularized nerve grafting, nerve conduits, allografts and nerve transfers, can be successfully used in some cases. The current focus in the field is the development of nerve conduits. Textile technologies represent a promising field in creating nerve conduits, given the ease of the manufacturing process, the affordable production cost and good mechanical properties.

This study was conducted to test the effect of two levels of rosehip meal used together with flaxseed meal on weekly production performances and blood parameters of laying hens. For that, we conducted a trial for 5 weeks on 120 laying hens (Tetra SL hybrid), aged 29 weeks. All three diets had 17.50% crude protein and 2780Kcal/kg metabolizable energy, but compared to the control diet (Con) the experimental diets contained 1.5% rosehip meal and 7% flaxseed meal (Diet1) or, 3% rosehip meal and 7% flaxseed meal (Diet2). The results revealed that only feed intake was significantly (P=0.0001) affected, being lower in experimental groups. Among the haematological parameters, the heterophile were significantly higher (P=0.0377) in both Diet1 and Diet2 groups versus the Con group. From the biochemical parameters analysed, in the lipid profile, glucose and triglycerides were significantly lower in the Diet2 group compared with both the Diet1 and Con groups. Total bilirubin was significantly higher (P=0.0020) in the Diet1 group compared to the Con and Diet2 groups, while the lactate dehydrogenase was lower (P=0.0414) in the samples of the Diet2 group. Overall, the studied ingredients had a slight influence on production performances and improved some blood parameters, especially the lipid profile of the Diet2 group.

This study focuses on data-related aspects and emphasizes the importance of producing a data management plan (DMP) to address the challenges specific to the collection, processing, storage, security, documentation, sharing, and distribution of data in research projects in the healthcare sector. It provides an overview of the DMP and offers guidelines for creating an effective plan that incorporates the FAIR principles. Additionally, the study outlines the main aspects of data management in the healthcare domain and analyzes several security issues, such as cryptography, biometrics, and digital watermarking, that should be considered for healthcare data. A systematic review of the literature is performed to explore the critical aspects of data management and identify emerging trends, challenges, and innovative solutions that can be incorporated into DMPs. Part of the analysis of this survey was performed with the InstructGPT language model.

In this paper, two decision support systems have been used to re-analyze the Fukushima accident emissions: the European Realtime Online Decision Support System for Nuclear Emergency Management (RODOS, version JRodos 2019)—providing a set of modules for the dispersion of nuclides following atmospheric and aquatic releases, dosimetry modules for dose estimation to individuals and communities for all exposure pathways with application of countermeasures, and modules for time estimation of the radiological situation in inhabited and agricultural areas—and CBRNE Platform, developed by IFIN-HH within a research project on anticipative and prognostic evaluation of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive events (CBRNE), which is a tool for effect diagnosis functions, response measures and consecutive recommendation for a large variety of scenarios. We have reproduced the event on both systems, using accident time weather data and updated source terms. Current and initial results were cross-compared and evaluated.

Objective: Health professionals who work with women in pregnancy and postpartum are rarely educated in psychosocial aspects of body image and mental health, despite this being a time of significant bodily change for women. This study presents the results of a needs assessment to determine the extent, nature, and format of health professional education in relation to body image and perinatal mental health. Method: Participants were N = 257 health professionals (89% female) from 16 European countries, recruited through the authors professional networks, who completed an online survey about their existing knowledge and experience, and preferences for further education. Results: Current knowledge about body image was low, and open-ended comments indicated that body image was integrated into pregnancy and postpartum care within the context of encouraging weight loss. Health professionals saw opportunities for the inclusion of conversations about body image and mental health within their clinical care and a need for training about ‘what to say’ to mothers, as well as recommendations for diagnostic and referral pathways, and more general information about postpartum body image and mental health that could inform their practice. In traditional Romanian society, where the vast majority of the population was illiterate, writing remained mysterious and inaccessible. For the peasants from the Romanian village, writing and the book have acquired separate meanings, being used in a particular way through magico-religious rituals. In order to defend against the action of evil forces and for the healing of the sick body, the traditional community instituted ceremonial, apotropaic and thaumaturgical practices, involving a set of alternative uses of writing. The clerics played an important role in consolidating these practices. The village priests made the written amulets (apocryphal texts, prayers and incantations) intended to be worn closest to the body to ward off unclean spirits which could cause harm to women who had just given birth and to the new-born. Books and writing were seen as repositories of healing forces that could ward off disease and trouble. In the Romanian rural society, between the two World Wars, it was still believed that evil spirits, agents of disease, could be drawn from the sick person's body with the help of “healing letters” (rom. “răvașe de leac”), containing prayers, various religious symbols, names of saints but also magic formulas, often presented in an enigmatic and incomprehensible way. The formulas are written upside down, from right to left, then from left to right (like the famous palindrome “Sator arepo tenet opera rotas” or “Abracadabra”) or distributed in geometric figures (spirals, triangles, crosses). These “healing papers”, with a strong iconic charge, were applied to the body or the text and the image were drawn directly on the skin of the sufferer. Drinking water in which one had washed a plate on the surface of which healing formulas had been written or swallowing the paper on which magic formulas were written were other common practices. Romanian ethnologists have documented the survival of these practices until the mid1970s. Similar practices are found in other parts of Europe.

Sepsis is the body’s unregulated response to infection and if not properly managed it can lead to septic shock, multiple organ failure and death. The aim of this article is to present a case of aortic periprosthetic infection, diagnosed in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Hospital no. 3 from Craiova, Romania. Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a serious medical condition, with a high risk of death due to the rupture of the arterial wall. The early antimicrobial treatment decreased the inflammatory markers level Although antibiotic therapy was initiated early, due to multiple associated pathologies, the patient died.

The purpose of this paper is to present how Romanian learners of English process a specific idiom related to color. In order to do this, I carried out an experiment with three groups of students from the school where I teach English as a foreign language. The experiment was just a small fraction of several others which as a whole made my Ph.D. Thesis. My research thesis is concerned with how non-native speakers of English process idioms related to weather, anger, and color. To understand their way of processing figurative language I carried out several experiments for each set of idioms. Each experiment consisted of two distinct parts: during the first part I gave my students the idioms in a context-free version and asked them to offer translations, whereas, during the second part, I gave them the same idioms but in a contextualized instance. I assumed that some of my students would be influenced by their linguistic background, their knowledge of English, and their mother tongue – Romanian. Many of my assumptions proved to be right. However, there were instances when students were able to provide proper translations of some idioms even from the context-free encounter of them. For others, contexts proved valuable instances of vocabulary that actually helped them grasp the figurative meaning. The choice of this specific idiom – black sheep – was taken bearing in mind the existence of a similar idiom in Romanian – oaia neagra. Both in Romanian and English this expression is mainly used with its figurative meaning despite the fact that the literal meaning makes sense as well.

The rare European species Atrichobrunettia (Mirousiella) graeca Ježek et Goutner, 1993 and the invasive species Clogmia albipunctata (Williston, 1893) (both Diptera: Psychodidae) are newly recorded from “Dunele Marine de la Agigea” Nature Reserve from Romania. The updated checklist of non-Phlebotomine species of the family Psychodidae for Romania with 53 species is given.

Both in the case of precision agriculture and in the case of some agricultural works, in which the technological process is dependent on the velocity of displacement of the platform carrying the agricultural equipment, it is necessary to precisely adjust or even continuously adjust the velocity of displacement. This article presents the capabilities of continuously regulating the travel velocity of an agricultural platform equipped with a hydrostatic transmission and a PID controller with feedback, feedforward, as well as nonlinear disturbance compensation capabilities; such a platform can be fitted with various agricultural equipment.

The creative class has been argued to both hamper and support economic resilience. As such, we propose a new framework on the significance of the creative class for local economic resilience, namely: the creativity and resilience analysis approach (CREA). The study contributes to the literature (1) by evaluating resilience through an index that includes multiple dimensions of creativity-based economic development; and (2) by identifying preliminary findings that link economic resilience with spatial shifts in local labour markets.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the correlations between latent variables embedded into three clusters (equine agritourism, therapeutic horse riding and equine sports) and entrepreneurial intentions of people interested to invest in equestrian sector. Design/methodology/approach The authors propose a conceptual framework focused on three latent variables that influence the interest of horse enthusiasts to embrace an entrepreneurial career. Statistical analyses via Pearson’s chi-square tests, analysis of variance (statistical formula used to compare variances across the means (or average) of different groups) and regression analysis have been performed to validate our assumptions. Findings Findings reveal a high level of interest of from horse enthusiasts to opt for an entrepreneurial career, as funding opportunities in this sector are growing due to European union and national funding available for this endeavour. Originality/value Very limited research studies have been explored the entrepreneurial intentions in equine industry. This study proves that sports and therapeutic activities influence to the greatest extent, the entrepreneurial intention in the equestrian sector.

Land–atmosphere interactions govern the process of dust emission and transport. An accurate depiction of these physical processes within numerical weather prediction models allows for better estimating the spatial and temporal distribution of the dust burden and the characterisation of source and recipient areas. In the presented study, the ECMWF-IFS (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast – Integrated Forecasting System) outputs, produced with and without the assimilation of Aeolus quality-assured Rayleigh–clear and Mie–cloudy horizontal line-of-sight wind profiles, are used as initial or boundary conditions in the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to simulate 2-month periods in the spring and autumn of 2020, focusing on a case study in October. The experiments have been performed over the broader eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) region, which is frequently subjected to dust transport, as it encompasses some of the most active erodible dust sources. Aerosol- and dust-related model outputs (extinction coefficient, optical depth and concentrations) are qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated against ground- and satellite-based observations. Ground-based columnar and vertically resolved aerosol optical properties are acquired through AERONET sun photometers and PollyXT lidar, while near-surface concentrations are taken from EMEP. Satellite-derived vertical dust and columnar aerosol optical properties are acquired through LIVAS (LIdar climatology of Vertical Aerosol Structure) and MIDAS (ModIs Dust AeroSol), respectively. Overall, in cases of either high or low aerosol loadings, the model predictive skill is improved when WRF-Chem simulations are initialised with the meteorological fields of Aeolus wind profiles assimilated by the IFS. The improvement varies in space and time, with the most significant impact observed during the autumn months in the study region. Comparison with observation datasets saw a remarkable improvement in columnar aerosol optical depths, vertically resolved dust mass concentrations and near-surface particulate concentrations in the assimilated run against the control run. Reductions in model biases, either positive or negative, and an increase in the correlation between simulated and observed values was achieved for October 2020.

The recognition of two new operational environments/domains, the cyber environment and the space environment, has led to the imagining of several “asymmetric” possibilities of engaging an adversary, with the aim of creating multiple dilemmas for the adversary, which it must take into account. This approach to military operations is currently associated with the new concept of multi-domain operations. However, it should be noted that not only the recognition of the two new environments, in addition to the three classic environments, constitutes multi-domain operations, but also the future operating environment as a whole is a triggering factor. Thus, in this article, my aim is to identify the extent to which the two new operational environments contribute to the development of the new multi-domain operations concept, with the aim of highlighting possible ways forward in terms of implementing the multi-domain operation concept anddeveloping specific actions in and from the cyber and space environments. Following the analysis carried out, it was noticed that the cyber and space domains are gradually losing relevance within the phases of the multi-domain operation, while the actions are being fragmented and decentralized. This fact must be takeninto account in the development of multi-domain formations.

We examine radar-based gesture input for interactive computer systems, a technology that has recently grown in terms of commercial availability, affordability, and popularity among researchers and practitioners, where radar sensors are leveraged to detect user input performed in mid-air, on the body, and around physical objects and digital devices. We analyze forty-five academic papers published on this topic between 2010 and 2021, and report results regarding gesture recognition techniques, application types, and evaluation approaches for radar-based gesture input. Our findings reveal that (1) deep learning techniques, such as Convolutional Neural Networks, have been the most popular approach for radar-based gesture recognition, (2) application opportunities for implementing radar gestures have been diverse, but without any clear contender for a game changer in this area, and (3) the gesture sets employed in prior work have been small with a median of just six gesture types. Based on these findings, we draw ten implications for integrating radar-based gesture sensing in ambient intelligence environments.

Recunoașterea a două noi medii/domenii operaționale, mediul cibernetic și mediul spațial, a condus la imaginarea mai multor posibilități „asimetrice” de angajare a unui adversar, cu scopul de a îi crea acestuia dileme multiple, de care trebuie să țină cont și, ca urmare, o sofisticare a spațiului de luptă care pune probleme atât adversarului, cât și forțelor proprii. Această abordare a operațiilor militare este, în prezent, asociată cu noul concept de operație multi- domeniu, deși trebuie menționat faptul că nu doar recunoașterea celor două noi medii, pe lângă cele trei medii clasice, a constituit operația multidomeniu, viitorul mediu de operare, în ansamblul său, fiind factorul declanșator. Astfel, în acest articol, îmi propun să identific măsura în care cele două noi medii operaționale contribuie la dezvoltarea noului concept de operație multidomeniu, cu scopul de a evidenția posibilele căi de urmat în ceea ce privește atât implementarea conceptului de operație multidomeniu, cât și dezvoltarea acțiunilor specifice în/din mediile cibernetic și spațial. În urma analizei desfășurate, am observat faptul că domeniile cibernetic și spațial pierd gradual din relevanță în cadrul fazelor operației multidomeniu, odată cu fragmentarea și descentralizarea acțiunilor, fapt care trebuie avut în vedere în dezvoltarea formațiunilor multidomeniu

Psoriatic arthritis is a heterogeneous chronic autoimmune disorder characterized principally by skin lesions, arthritis, dactylitis and enthesitis. The exact etiology of the disease is yet to be discovered, with genetic predisposition alongside environmental factors being a well-known theory. In recent years, new discoveries have emphasized the role of gut microbiome in perpetuating inflammation in spondylarthritis. The exact mechanism through which dysbiosis underlies the pathophysiology of psoriatic arthritis is not defined. One of the current areas of focus in rheumatic research with new studies emerging annually is the link between microbiome and psoriatic arthritis. In this review, we synthesized the recent knowledge on intestinal microbiome and psoriatic arthritis. We screened two databases for articles, PubMed and Medline, using the following keywords: “microbiome”, “microbiota” and “psoriatic arthritis”. We described the current expertise on diversity and composition of gut microbiome in psoriatic arthritis, comparing the results with other inflammatory diseases. In the future, preventing the dysbiosis process that leads to the development of psoriatic arthritis could open the door to new therapeutic modalities. Moreover, fecal microbiota transplantation and probiotics’ benefits in modulating the gut microbiome are being intensively researched at the moment.

In this article, the general competence of the jurisdictional bodies is analyzed as a permit for the existence of the private form of defense of civil rights. The latter is presented as it could not exist as an activity of the jurisdictional bodies (arbitration and conciliation commission) in the absence of regulations on general jurisdiction. In particular, the arbitrability of disputes is analyzed as a component of the general competence of the jurisdictional bodies. The problem of the interpretation of the legal norms regarding the delimitation of the powers of arbitration by other jurisdictional bodies was highlighted. In the same way, ferenda law proposals have been submitted to improve the regulations of general jurisdiction in the field of arbitration.

Abstract: The production of nanoparticles (NPs) from chemical and physical synthesis has ended due to the involvement of toxic byproducts and harsh analytical conditions. Innovation and research in nanoparticle synthesis are derived from biomaterials that have gained attention due to their novel features, such as ease of synthesis, low-cost, eco-friendly approach, and high water solubility. Nanoparticles obtained through macrofungi involve several mushroom species, i.e., Pleurotus spp., Ganoderma spp., Lentinus spp., and Agaricus bisporus. It is well-known that macrofungi possess high nutritional, antimicrobial, anti-cancerous, and immune-modulatory properties. Nanoparticle synthesis via medicinal and edible mushrooms is a striking research field, as macrofungi act as an eco-friendly biofilm that secretes essential enzymes to reduce metal ions. The mushroom-isolated nanoparticles exhibit longer shelf life, higher stability, and increased biological activities. The synthesis mechanisms are still unknown; evidence suggests that fungal flavones and reductases have a significant role. Several macrofungi have been utilized for metal synthesis (such as Ag, Au, Pt, Fe) and non-metal nanoparticles (Cd, Se, etc.). These nanoparticles have found significant applications in advancing industrial and bio-medical ventures. A complete understanding of the synthesis mechanism will help optimize the synthesis protocols and control the shape and size of nanoparticles. This review highlights various aspects of NP production via mushrooms, including its synthesis from mycelium and the fruiting body of macrofungi. Also, we discuss the applications of different technologies in NP high-scale production via mushrooms.

In the current period, worldwide, there are phenomena of unification of spaces and economic relations under the aegis of customs, political, territorial, financial unions. In addition to the positive effects, they create loopholes in the tax systems and favor international tax evasion, exploiting these loopholes. As a result, tax havens are consolidated as permanent phenomena, which seriously affect the economies of the countries concerned, because they impoverish them, due to imperfections in the laws, by the revenues due to them. This article approaches the problem of cross-border tax evasion from several points of view. Firstly, theoretically, analyzing its component parts and forms of manifestation. Also, the main mechanisms for implementing these phenomena are explained and the experiences of some states in combating the given phenomenon are analyzed.

The main objective of this paper is to analyze if there is a link between financial performance and sustainability in the case of listed companies on stock markets, worldwide, and across all sectors of activity because sustainability has become an important part of the company’s strategy. The financial performance of the companies was calculated using public financial data from the annual financial statements, while the environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and controversies scores were used as performance metrics for sustainability at company level. To evaluate financial performance a variety of indicators were used, such as assets management, debt management or market value performance, as a benchmark tool to compare the standing of companies in each sector of activity analyzed. Our findings showed that there are different relations (strong or weak) between financial performance and sustainability if a sectoral-based approach is considered. As a result, the link between financial performance and sustainability was tested on a sample of more than 5,000 companies divided into 10 sectors of activities, according to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS), for the period 2017-2021. The main conclusion of this study is that they are interrelated, capitalizing on each other.
