Prostate cancer (PC) is the malignant neoplasm with the highest incidence after lung cancer worldwide. The objective of this study is to review the literature on the methods that improve the efficacy of the current strategy for the early diagnosis of clinically significant PC (csPC), based on the performance of magnetic resonance imaging (RM) and targeted biopsies when suspicious lesions are detected, in addition to systematic biopsy.A systematic literature review was performed in PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane according to the PRISMA criteria (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses), using the search terms: multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, biparametric magnetic resonance imaging, biomarkers in prostate cancer, prostate cancer y early diagnosis. A total of 297 references were identified and, using the PICO selection criteria, 21 publications were finally selected to synthesize the evidence.With the consolidation of MRI as the test of choice for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, the role of PSA density (PSAD) becomes relevant as a predictive tool included in prediction nomograms, without added cost. PSAD and diagnostic markers, combined with MRI, offer a high diagnostic power with an area under curve (AUC) above 0.7. Only the SHTLM3 model integrates markers in the creation of a nomogram. Prediction models also offer consistent efficacy with an AUC greater than 0.8 when associating MRI.The efficacy of MRI in clinically significant prostate cancer detection can be improved with different parameters in order to generate predictive models that support decision making.

Biological and psychosocial factors have been related to the shift to eveningness during early adolescence but it is necessary to study them from a longitudinal perspective. This longitudinal study examined the contribution of these factors to the onset of a shift towards eveningness in early adolescence. A sample of 440 (49.9% boys) Spanish adolescents were assessed for pubertal development, family conflicts, and morningness/eveningness. The same measures were taken twice at the age of 12 and one year later (T1: M = 12.47, SD = 0.75 and T2: M = 13.64, SD = 0.78). Pubertal development and family conflicts were considered predictors of morningness/eveningness in a mixed-effects multilevel model. The developmental shift towards eveningness appeared in girls but not in boys. The shift was related to more advanced pubertal development and more conflicts in the family. This study has implications for shaping healthy sleep habits in adolescents and possible interventions focused on family dynamics.

Skin wound healing leads to the recovery of tissue structure and homeostasis after injury. Numerous factors can hamper wound healing and complete recovery of the harmed tissue, causing the formation of scars or chronic wounds. Therapeutic options to improve wound regeneration are limited, possibly due to failure during pre-clinical validation toward clinical trials. In this article, the authors aim to convey key points and provide recommendations for the development of regenerative agents that improve wound healing using mouse models.First, the authors highlight the differences in the wound healing processes of mice and humans. Later, the authors apply a quasi-systematic research approach based on a search algorithm of 32 terms that focuses on in vivomouse model assays of regenerative factors. The authors analyze the top 20 most cited articles of 2241 hits produced by Scopus. The authors focus the search on a period covering the last 10 years (January 2011 to October 2021). The authors synthesize information from the top 20 articles and present the most common type of mouse model used, mouse characteristics (strain, sex, age, weight), surgical wounding technique employed (size, location, equipment), agents tested, methods of wound monitoring, regeneration assessment and key points to consider for the translational potential of these agents. This knowledge will help the scientific community design better in vivo assays and translate their results to further research and clinical validation.

The aim of the present study was to adapt the Morningness-Eveningness-Stability Scale improved (MESSi) to the Spanish adolescent population, testing its factor structure and construct validity. The participants were 725 adolescents (52.9% girls;iM/i= 14.8,iSD /i= 1.99) who completed the MESSi, the Morningness Eveningness Scale of Children (MESC), questions about sleep habits adapted from the School Sleep Habits Survey, and self-reported academic performance. The psychometric results support a three-factor model with the factors of morning affect, eveningness, and distinctness, which show good internal consistency. The pattern of correlations between MESSi and the other measures was in the expected direction. The MESC correlated positively with morning affect and negatively with eveningness, whereas distinctness was uncorrelated. Boys reported higher morningness, whereas girls reported higher distinctness. Eveningness was negatively related to academic performance. Overall, the results support the validity and reliability of the Spanish adolescent version of the MESSi.

ObjectiveMitochondrial dynamics and quality control in skeletal muscle are central to healthy metabolism. Resistance exercise is a recognized tool for improving skeletal muscle function; however, its effect on mitochondria is still not fully understood. We investigated the impact of resistance exercise on mitochondrial morphology and mitophagy in human skeletal muscle.MethodsEight healthy men performed resistance exercise on one leg, and muscle biopsies were subsequently obtained from the resting leg (Rest) and the exercised leg (Ex) to measure protein abundance and mitochondrial morphology. Additionally, muscle biopsies were obtained from twelve healthy men, and the abundance of BNIP3L protein was correlated with muscle cell and whole body health markers.ResultsEx increased p-Drp1 and decreased MFN2, Parkin, and BNIP3L protein levels. Electron microscopy indicated an increase in mitochondrial circularity, cristae abnormality, and mitophagosome structures in Ex, with a marked increase in subsarcolemmal mitophagosomes. We also identified mitophagosomes outside the muscle. Experiments in human myotubes showed a severe decrease in BNIP3L protein in response to CCCP-induced mitochondrial damage with and without bafilomycin. A positive correlation was found between BNIP3L and exercise RQ, HOMA index, while a negative correlation was found with mitophagosomes abundance and VO2max.ConclusionOur study describes the effect of resistance exercise on mitochondrial dynamics and mitophagy in skeletal muscle, demonstrating induction of mitochondrial fission and mitophagy in the exercised leg. Moreover, we propose BNIP3L as a potential regulator and marker of mitophagy flux.

Aim To describe the epidemiological, clinical and surgical parameters of the population undergoing inguinal hernioplasty in a small rural hospital Material and method All patients who underwent an inguinal hernia repair at our Hospital in 2021 were included. A search was made in the medical records to identify epidemiological, clinical and surgical risk factors. Results 208 patients were gathered, of which 31 (14,9%) had a bilateral hernia, 50 (24%) had previously been operated on the other side and 11 (5,2%) were recurrences. This translates into an annual incidence of 227,27/100.000, with a recurrence rate of 5%. 136 (65%) were outpatient with only 1 hospitalization. Conclusion In our rural hospital the incidence and recurrence rate is the same as described in the literature.

Introduction: Climate change represents a problem that generates long-term impacts and is considered a threat to the conservation of many species. Objective: To evaluate the impact of climate change on the distribution areas of 10 trees species characteristic of cloud forests in the state of Oaxaca. Materials and methods: The impact was evaluated for two-time horizons (2050 and 2080) and two emission scenarios (RCP 4.5 and 8.5) under the Had GEM2-ES general atmospheric circulation model. Current and future distribution was modeled with MaxEnt. The distribution of Carpinus tropicalis, Juglans pyriformis, Liquidambar styraciflua, Litsea glaucescens, Magnolia dealbata, Magnolia schiedeana, Ostrya virginiana, Symplocos coccinea, Zinowiewia concinna and Taxus globosa were obtained from the herbarium specimen review. Results and discussion: In RCP 4.5, J. pyriformis, L. styraciflua, L. glaucescens and S. coccinea increased (2.8 % to 20.5 %) their area of distribution. In this scenario, the rest of the species reduced their area by up to 30 % compared to the current distribution. In RCP 8.5-2050, J. pyriformis and O. virginiana had a gain of more than 5 %. All species showed a reduction greater than 10 % under the RCP 8.5-2080 scenario. The models showed area under the curve greater than 0.8 and partial ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) greater than 1.7. Conclusions: Understanding the response of 10 species to climate change will serve as a basis for proposing conservation and monitoring plans, since nine of them are in some category of risk.

There is a lack of data on the clinical outcomes following the use of different strategies for lesion preparation prior to the use of drug-coated balloons (DCB). In this study, we have explored the clinical outcomes between different types of pre-dilatation balloons: semicompliant (SB), non-compliant (NB) and scoring balloons (ScB) used when preparing denovo lesions prior to the use of DCB.We retrospectively evaluated all patients who underwent treatment with DCB for de-novo lesions between 2011-2019 at 4 high-volume European centres. The measured study endpoints were: cardiac-death, TV-MI, TLR and MACE.During the study period, 553 patients were treated with DCB for de-novo lesions, 327 with SB only, 172 with NB and 54 with ScB. There were some differences in the procedural characteristics between the 3 groups. Pre-dilatation balloons were significantly larger in the ScB and NB groups as compared to the SB (2.7 mm and 2.6 mm vs. 2.3 mm; p0.001). The reference vessel diameter was significantly larger in the NB group as compared to the ScB and SB (2.6 mm vs. 2.2 mm and 2.3 mm; p0.001). During the median follow-up duration of 547-days, there were no differences in the hard-clinical end-points, however, TLR was significantly higher in the ScB as compared to SB and NB group (11% vs. 3.4% and 4.7%; p=0.02).The PREPARE study results do not suggest routine use of ScB prior to DCB in de novo lesions.

This work analyses changes in traffic flow and vehicle fleet segmentation from Jul-2020 to Dec-2021 in Bahía Blanca, a medium-sized Argentinian city. We obtained the data by manual counting watching videos provided by the city’s security cameras. During the different stages and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, fluctuations appeared in the traffic flow. The motorized vehicle flow was gradually increasing during pandemic, reaching in Nov-2021 levels close to those reported in Mar-2020 (pre-pandemic). Moreover, an increase in sustainable micro-mobility (bicycles and e-scooters) was detected, as well as changes in the city’s peak hours. This study provides relevant information on how urban mobility is changing. In consequence, new policies that could lead us to a people-centred and more sustainable city could be created.

In the quest for high-energy neutrino sources, the Astrophysical Multimessenger Observatory Network has implemented a new search by combining data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory and the Astronomy with a Neutrino Telescope and Abyss environmental RESearch (ANTARES) neutrino telescope. Using the same analysis strategy as in a previous detector combination of HAWC and IceCube data, we perform a search for coincidences in HAWC and ANTARES events that are below the threshold for sending public alerts in each individual detector. Data were collected between 2015 July and 2020 February with a live time of 4.39 yr. El incremento exagerado del uso de la internet, de los diferentes dispositivos y de sistemas digitales, tanto para le educación, como para uso de las redes sociales y compras en línea por parte de los usuarios, es generado a consecuencia de la larga contingencia causada por el SARS-COV2 (Covid19). Esto a su vez, ha ocasionado un incremento en los fraudes cibernéticos; alrededor de 500 mil ataques reportados con un costo de 6,000 millones en todo el mundo, y en México está dentro de los primeros 10 países más atacados con un 61%. Estos robos, afectan tanto a personas comunes como a empresas de todo tipo y tamaño (chicas, medianas y grandes), así como empresas privadas y de gobierno. Esto hechos han generado un déficit en el personal profesional capacitado de 1.8 millones en el mundo y en México de 35 mil, en las áreas de la ciberseguridad, como es hacking ético y cómputo forense y otras más. Con ello se tiene una gran oportunidad, para proponer asignaturas, cursos, capacitaciones en área de ciberseguridad, así como una especialidad de “Administración de redes y ciberseguridad”, para la carrera de Ingeniería en Sistemas Computacionales, que genere competencias acordes a esta problemática. Logrando con ello abatir el gran déficit de personal capacitado en estas áreas, logrando así que la información sea más segura en las empresas, considerando que el crimen cibernético es cada vez más recurrente, se puede combatir con la prevención, la ética y el profesionalismo.

En el presente trabajo propongo una escucha en clave política de algunas canciones del Dúo Pimpinela. Estos artistas se hicieron conocidos a principios de la década de los ochenta del siglo pasado con una propuesta innovadora que combinaba los temas y formas musicales de la balada romántica con estructuras dramáticas propias del teatro, para representar escenas basadas en las peleas y rupturas de pareja. Las canciones de pelea, si bien mostraron la capacidad de interpelar masivamente al público, no se han pensado en vinculación con el proceso de transición democrática que se iniciaba en esos años con el debilitamiento de la dictadura, principalmente después de la guerra de Malvinas. Sin embargo, una escucha en clave política se hace posible si se vinculan la crisis de las relaciones entre los géneros, en especial las relaciones matrimoniales, por una parte, con un amplio conjunto de demandas de democratización que caracterizaron el período, por otra. Para fundar esa escucha política, propongo recuperar dos nociones de larga trayectoria en los estudios culturales: la de “inconsciente político”, desenvolvida por Frederic Jameson, y la de “estructura de sentimiento”, propuesta por Raymond Williams.

Coccolithophores are potentially affected by ongoing ocean acidification, where rising CO2 lowers seawater pH and calcite saturation state (Ωcal). Southern Patagonian fjords and channels provide natural laboratories for studying these issues due to high variability in physical and chemical conditions. We surveyed coccolithophore assemblages in Patagonian fjords during late spring 2015 and early spring 2017. Surface Ωcal exhibited large variations driven mostly by freshwater inputs. High-Ωcal conditions (max. 3.6) occurred in the Archipelago Madre de Dios. Ωcal ranged from 2.0–2.6 in the western Strait of Magellan and 1.5–2.2 in the inner channel and was subsaturating (0.5) in Skyring Sound. Emiliania huxleyi was the only coccolithophore widely distributed in Patagonian fjords (> 96 % of total coccolithophores), only disappearing in the Skyring Sound, a semi-closed mesohaline system. Correspondence analysis associated higher E. huxleyi biomasses with lower diatom biomasses. The highest E. huxleyi abundances in Patagonia were in the lower range of those reported in Norwegian fjords. Predominant morphotypes were distinct from those previously documented in nearby oceans but similar to those of Norwegian fjords. Moderately calcified forms of E. huxleyi A morphotype were uniformly distributed throughout Patagonia fjords. The exceptional R/hyper-calcified coccoliths, associated with low Ωcal values in Chilean and Peruvian coastal upwellings, were a minor component associated with high Ωcal levels in Patagonia. Outlying mean index (OMI) niche analysis suggested that pH and Ωcal conditions explained most variation in the realized niches of E. huxleyi morphotypes. The moderately calcified A morphotype exhibited the widest niche breadth (generalist), while the R/hyper-calcified morphotype exhibited a more restricted realized niche (specialist). Nevertheless, when considering an expanded sampling domain, including nearby southeast Pacific coastal and offshore waters, even the R/hyper-calcified morphotype exhibited a higher niche breadth than other closely phylogenetically related coccolithophore species. The occurrence of E. huxleyi in naturally low pH–Ωcal environments indicates that its ecological response is plastic and capable of adaptation.

In this investigation thermochemical properties of 3-hydroxyphthalic anhydride were determined. Fusion enthalpy, fusion temperature and molar heat capacity in solid phase were obtained by differential scanning calorimetry. By the Knudsen effusion method, the molar enthalpy of sublimation at 298.15 K was obtained. By thermogravimetric data, it was possible to determine the molar enthalpy of sublimation and the molar enthalpy of vaporization. On the other hand, the molar enthalpy of formation in solid phase at 298.15 K was determined by combustion calorimetry. The molar enthalpy of formation in gas phase at 298.15 K was calculated from molar enthalpy of sublimation at 298.15 K and molar enthalpy of formation in solid phase at 298.15 K. This experimental value was compared both theoretical enthalpy of formation in gas phase by using Gaussian methods at the G3 and G4 levels and with an estimated value in relation to phthalic anhydride.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected lifestyles everywhere, changing urban traffic circulation worldwide. This paper focuses on the impact of the pandemic on air pollution from mobile sources in a Latin American medium-size city: Bahia Blanca (Argentina). Vehicle flow and corresponding emissions were evaluated before (January and March 2020) and after (June and November 2020) the lockdown. Vehicular traffic flows were measured and their segmentations were calculated. Emissions dispersion was modelled by employing R-Line, through the use of AERMOD. A decrease was observed not only in vehicular flow (~23%), but also in pollutant and greenhouse gas concentrations (~70%), in line with other research. Changes in mobility habits were observed, which were reflected by the different proportion of the vehicle-fleet segmentation, with a significant drop in the buses (~66%) together with the appearance of a bicycle peak (~53%), which is unusual for the city. Microtubule (MT) stabilization is an attractive pharmacological strategy to hamper the progress of neurodegenerative diseases. In this regard, seeking peptides with MT-stabilizing properties has awoken great interest. This work reports the rational discovery of two structurally related MT-stabilizing octapeptides using a combination of protein-peptide docking, conventional molecular dynamics, Gaussian accelerated molecular dynamics (GaMD), and tubulin polymerization assays. FASTA sequences for ∼1000 peptides were crafted from single and double mutants of davunetide (NAP) and docked against the Taxol (TX) site on an octameric MT model representing a portion of the MT wall. Docked peptides were rescored after MM minimization and binding free energy refinement through single-point MM/GBSA calculations. The 60 best-ranked peptides were subjected to 50 ns MD simulations on peptide-MT complexes at the terminal TX site in the octameric Tau-MT model resulting in 11 complexes with occupancies greater than 99% and peptide-protein binding free energies less than -40 kcal/mol. Selected peptides were then examined through 300 ns GaMD simulations in complexes containing two identical ligands at the terminal and intermediate TX sites in the Tau-MT model to account for the differential association of MT-binding peptides to different regions of the MT structure. Six candidates showed a favorable MT-binding potential based on the analysis of interaction frequencies and relative mobilities of the complex components, suggesting a pivotal role of Arg278, Gln281, and Arg369 residues for peptides recognition. Four candidates were predicted to preserve an adequate balance of longitudinal and lateral interactions between tubulin dimers in peptide-MT complexes such that MT-stabilizing effects could be expected. MT polymerization experiments confirmed that four peptides (HAPVSIHQ, NYPVSIHQ, NWPVSIWQ, HAPVSIIQ) exhibit MT-stabilizing activity

Light sources emitting short pulses are needed in many particle physics experiments using optical sensors as they can replicate the light produced by the particles being detected and are also an important calibration and test element. This work presents NOPELED, a light source based on LEDs emitting short optical pulses with typical rise times of less than 3 ns and FullWidth at Half Maximum lower than 7 ns. The emission wavelength depends on the model of LED used. Several LED models have been characterized in the range from 405 to 532 nm, although NOPELED can work with LED emitting wavelengths outside of that region. While the wavelength is fixed for a given LED model, the intensity and the frequency of the optical pulse can be controlled. We performed an observational cohort study to assess associations between genetic factors of dengue fever (DF) severity in children in the Dominican Republic. A total of 488 participants had serologically confirmed DF. We replicated the association between the IFIH1 gene (rs1990760) and severe DF (n = 80/488, p = 0.006) and identified novel associations needing further investigation.

The stellar activity of M dwarfs is the main limitation for discovering and characterizing exoplanets orbiting them since it induces quasi-periodic RV variations. We aim to characterize the magnetic field and stellar activity of the early, moderately active, M dwarf Gl205 in the optical and nIR domains. We obtained high-precision quasi-simultaneous spectra in the optical and nIR with the SOPHIE spectrograph and SPIRou spectropolarimeter between 2019 and 2022. We computed the RVs from both instruments and the SPIRou Stokes V profiles. We used ZDI to map the large-scale magnetic field over the time span of the observations. We studied the temporal behavior of optical and nIR RVs and activity indicators with the Lomb-Scargle periodogram and a quasi-periodic GP regression. In the nIR, we studied the equivalent width of Al I, Ti I, K I, Fe I, and He I. We modeled the activity-induced RV jitter using a multi-dimensional GP regression with activity indicators as ancillary time series. The optical and nIR RVs have similar scatter but nIR shows a more complex temporal evolution. We observe an evolution of the magnetic field topology from a poloidal dipolar field in 2019 to a dominantly toroidal field in 2022. We measured a stellar rotation period of Prot=34.4$\pm$0.5 d in the longitudinal magnetic field. Using ZDI we measure the amount of latitudinal differential rotation (DR) shearing the stellar surface yielding rotation periods of Peq=32.0$\pm$1.8 d at the stellar equator and Ppol=45.5$\pm$0.3 d at the poles. We observed inconsistencies in the activity indicators' periodicities that could be explained by these DR values. The multi-dimensional GP modeling yields an RMS of the RV residuals down to the noise level of 3 m/s for both instruments, using as ancillary time series H$\alpha$ and the BIS in the optical, and the FWHM in the nIR., Comment: 41 pages, 24 figures. The Polymer Maker SMILES-based (PolyMaS) software was used to generate linear macromolecules from the repeating structural units (SRU) of polymers without limiting their length and molar mass. The SRU input is stored in the SMILES code available on the Internet. PolyMaS makes head-tail junctions to the desired length of the macromolecule.

Serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a biogenic amine involved in regulating several functions, including development. However, its impact on human embryo development has been poorly studied. The present work investigated the expression and distribution of the main components of the serotoninergic system in human amniotic tissue and human amniotic epithelial cells (hAEC) in vitro, as an alternative model of early human embryo development. Amniotic membranes from full-term healthy pregnancies were used. Human amnion tissue or hAEC isolated from the amnion was processed for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunofluorescence analyses of the main components of the serotoninergic system. We found the expression of tryptophan hydroxylase type 1 (TPH1), type 2 (TPH2), serotonin transporter (SERT), monoamine oxidase-A (MAOA), as well as HTR1D and HTR7 receptors at mRNA level in amnion tissue as well in hAEC. Interestingly, we found the presence of 5-HT in the nucleus of the cells in amnion tissue, whereas it was located in the cytoplasm of isolated hAEC. We detected TPH1, TPH2, and HTR1D receptor in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. SERT, MAOA, and HTR7 receptor were only observed in the cytoplasm. The results presented herein show, for the first time, the presence of the serotoninergic system in human amnion in vivo and in vitro. Summary sentence The results presented show the presence of the serotoninergic system in human amnion in vivo and in vitro, which opens the potential role of 5-hydroxytryptamine and the serotoninergic system in the events that occur during early human embryonic development (given the origin of the amniotic cells) in vitro. The order of laying down homogeneous intersecting strokes of ball-point inks has been assessed using a range of different spectroscopic and analytical techniques for recent inks and for inks with a time difference of 4 years. These techniques are infrared reflectance photography with luminescence, fluorescence micro-spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, high resolution liquid chromatography and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. This paper presents a combined method applicable to forensic cases aimed at resolving homogenous intersecting strokes of ball-point ink to determine whether they were made at the same time or, on the contrary, they were intersecting strokes laid down with an acute time difference, taking four years as an age reference.

Prolactin (PRL) is a versatile hormone that exerts more than 300 functions in vertebrates, mainly associated with physiological effects in adult animals. Although the process that regulates early development is poorly understood, evidence suggests a role of PRL in the early embryonic development regarding pluripotency and nervous system development. Thus, PRL could be a crucial regulator in oocyte preimplantation and maturation as well as during diapause, a reversible state of blastocyst development arrest that shares metabolic, transcriptomic, and proteomic similarities with pluripotent stem cells in the naïve state. Thus, we analyzed the role of the hormone during those processes, which involve the regulation of its receptor and several signaling cascades (Jak/Mapk, Jak/Stat, and PI3k/Akt), resulting in either a plethora of physiological actions or their dysregulation, a factor in developmental disorders. Finally, we propose models to improve the knowledge on PRL function during early development.

Resumen Objetivo Determinar las caracteristicas clinicas, sociodemograficas y tratamiento de la EII en un registro de la poblacion colombiana. Metodologia Estudio observacional descriptivo, analitico, multicentrico, de corte transversal de una cohorte nacional de pacientes con EII en 17 centros de nueve ciudades del pais. Resultados Se documentaron 2,291 pacientes con EII, 1,813 (79.1%) con CU, 456 (19.9%) con EC y 22 con EII no clasificable (0.9%). La razon CU/EC es de 3.9:1. 18.5% de los pacientes con CU y 47.3% con EC han recibido terapia biologica. Los pacientes con CU extensa presentaban mayor uso de terapia biologica (OR = 2.78; IC 95%: 2.10-3.65; P = 0.000), mayor tasa de cirugia (OR = 5.4; IC 95%: 3.5-8.3; P = 0.000) y mayor frecuencia de hospitalizacion (OR = 4.34; IC 95%: 3.47-5.44; P = 0.000). Los pacientes con CU severa presentaban mayor uso de terapia biologica (OR = 5.04; IC 95%: 3.75-6.78; P = 0.000), mayor tasa de cirugia (OR = 8.64; IC 95%: 5.4-13.78; P = 0.000) y mayor frecuencia de hospitalizacion (OR = 28.45; IC 95%: 19.9-40.7; P = 0.000). Los pacientes con EC inflamatorio (B1) presentaban menor frecuencia de hospitalizacion (OR = 0.12; IC 95%: 0.07-0.19; P = 0.000), menor tasa de cirugia (OR = 0.08; IC 95%: 0.043-0.15; P: 0.000) y menor uso de terapia biologica (OR = 0.26; IC 95%: 0.17-0.41; P: 0.000). Conclusion En nuestro pais existe un predominio de CU sobre EC (3.9:1), como ocurre en otros paises de Latinoamerica. Los pacientes con CU extensa y severa y con EC de comportamiento no inflamatorio (B2, B3) tienen peor pronostico.

Resumen Introduccion Las Guias de Practica Clinica para el Diagnostico y Tratamiento de la Pancreatitis Aguda (GPCDTPA) han sido disenadas con la finalidad de disminuir la morbimortalidad de esta grave enfermedad. Objetivo Identificar el conocimiento de las GPCDTPA en hospitales de Veracruz. Material y metodos Estudio observacional, descriptivo, multicentrico realizado en cuatro hospitales de Veracruz, aplicando encuesta para evaluar su conocimiento en medicos y residentes que atienden pacientes con pancreatitis aguda. El analisis de los resultados se realizo por estadistica descriptiva. Resultados Se aplicaron 74 encuestas: 55.4% a medicos adscritos y 44.59% a residentes. La GPCDTPA mas conocida fue la de la Asociacion Mexicana de Gastroenterologia (AMG) (67.57%), seguida por la del Consejo de Salubridad General de la Secretaria de Salud (CENETEC) (54.05%) y la del Colegio Americano de Gastroenterologia (ACG) (48.65%). El 97.30% de los medicos utilizaron rutinariamente una sonda nasogastrica, el 79.73% consideran muy importante el inicio temprano de la nutricion enteral, el 98.65% la reposicion hidrica generosa, el 85.14% no emplearon antimicrobianos de rutina, el 63.51% realizan la TAC a partir de las 72 h y el 87.84% consideran que la indicacion quirurgica es la necrosis infectada, preferentemente despues de la tercera semana. Discusion y conclusiones En nuestro medio las GPCDTPA mas conocidas fueron las de la AMG y CENETEC y su conocimiento es inferior al 85.00%, por lo que es recomendable su difusion para garantizar resultados optimos en el manejo de la pancreatitis aguda.

The artificial intelligence-based prediction of the mechanical properties derived from the tensile test plays a key role in assessing the application profile of new polymeric materials, especially in the design stage, prior to synthesis. This strategy saves time and resources when creating new polymers with improved properties that are increasingly demanded by the market. A quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) model for tensile strength at break is presented in this work. The QSPR methodology applied here is based on machine learning tools, visual analytics methods, and expert-in-the-loop strategies. From the whole study, a QSPR model composed of five molecular descriptors that achieved a correlation coefficient of 0.9226 is proposed. We applied visual analytics tools at two levels of analysis: a more general one in which models are discarded for redundant information metrics and a deeper one in which a chemistry expert can make decisions on the composition of the model in terms of subsets of molecular descriptors, from a physical-chemical point of view. In this way, with the present work, we close a contribution cycle to polymer informatics, providing QSPR models oriented to the prediction of mechanical properties related to the tensile test.

The zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8) plays an essential role in zinc homeostasis inside pancreatic β cells, its function is related to the stabilization of insulin hexameric form. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have established a positive and negative relationship of ZnT8 variants with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), exposing a dual and controversial role. The first hypotheses about its role in T2DM indicated a higher risk of developing T2DM for loss of function; nevertheless, recent GWAS of ZnT8 loss-of-function mutations in humans have shown protection against T2DM. With regard to the ZnT8 role in T2DM, most studies have focused on rodent models and common high-risk variants; however, considerable differences between human and rodent models have been found and the new approaches have included lower-frequency variants as a tool to clarify gene functions, allowing a better understanding of the disease and offering possible therapeutic targets. Therefore, this review will discuss the physiological effects of the ZnT8 variants associated with a major and lower risk of T2DM, emphasizing the low- and rare-frequency variants.

Resumen: Introducción: La cirrosis es un problema grave de salud pública a nivel mundial, con variaciones regionales determinadas por factores culturales y su desarrollo económico. Objetivo: Conocer las características de los factores socioculturales y económicos de los pacientes con cirrosis en Veracruz. Material y métodos: Estudio retrolectivo, multicéntrico y relacional en pacientes con cirrosis en cinco instituciones de Salud de Veracruz. Las variables analizadas fueron: etiología, edad, sexo, estado civil, escolaridad, ocupación y remuneración económica. Se utilizó estadística descriptiva e inferencial para la obtener X2, con nivel de significancia de 0.05; se empleó el ordenador IBM-SPSS, versión 25.0 para Windows. Resultados: Se incluyeron 182 expedientes con cirrosis. La etiología fue: consumo crónico de alcohol (47.8%), enfermedad viral (28.5%), enfermedad hepática grasa no alcohólica (EHGNA) (8.79%), autoinmune (4.40%), colestasis (1.64%) y criptogénica (8.8%); la edad promedio fue 66.14 ± 13.91 años con predominio del sexo masculino (58.79%); al comparar los factores socioculturales y económicos en relación con su etiología observamos que en los alcohólicos el sexo masculino, la educación media y superior y la soltería fueron estadísticamente significativos al resto (p

The aim of this research was to evaluate the performance of soybean cultivars using different population densities and planting seasons. The experiments were established using a completely randomized block design with a 14×3×2 factorial arrangement, where factor A consisted of 14 soybean cultivars, factor B were low (177,700 plants ha-1), medium (266,600 plants ha-1), and high (355,500 plants ha-1) population densities, and factor C consisted of early and late planting seasons. We evaluated the number of pods per plant (NPP), number of grains m-2 (NG), 1000-grain weight (TGW), and yield (kg ha-1). The interaction between cultivar and planting season affected the NG, TGW, and yield. Cultivars DM-6563-IPRO, TMG-7062-IPRO, 6505-B, NA-5909-RG, M-6410-IPRO, DM-6262-IPRO, SOJAPAR-R19, 6806-IPRO, 6205-B, M-5947-IPRO and SYN-1163-RR showed higher yields in the early planting season and cultivar NS-5959-IPRO in the late planting season. Cultivars 5907-IPRO and DM-5958 showed similar yields for the two planting seasons evaluated. The highest yields were obtained from a density of 266,600 plants ha-1. The cultivar×planting season interaction affected the TGW, with the early planting season showing a greater TGW for most of the cultivars evaluated. The NPP depended on the interaction between cultivar, density, and planting season. The combination of the NG and the TGW showed a more significant influence on the generation of yield in the cultivars. This study highlights the importance of selecting genotypes according to their response to variations in planting date and plant density. This information could help Paraguayan farmers to maximize production in the same area, optimizing the available resources.

Introduction: There is little control of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in secondary prevention after an ischaemic stroke, in part due to a lack of adherence to treatment. The CV polypill may contribute to proper treatment adherence, which is necessary for CV disease prevention. This study aimed to establish how and in what cases the CV polypill should be administered. Methods: A group of 8 neurologists drafted consensus recommendations using structured brainstorming and based on their experience and a literature review. Results: These recommendations are based on the opinion of the participating experts. The use of the CV polypill is beneficial for patients, healthcare professionals, and the health system. Its use is most appropriate for atherothrombotic stroke, lacunar stroke, stroke associated with cognitive impairment, cryptogenic stroke with CV risk factors, and silent cerebrovascular disease. It is the preferred treatment in cases of suspected poor adherence, polymedicated patients, elderly people, patients with polyvascular disease or severe atherothrombosis, young patients in active work, and patients who express a preference for the CV polypill. Administration options include switching from individual drugs to the CV polypill, starting treatment with the CV polypill in the acute phase in particular cases, use in patients receiving another statin or an angiotensin ii receptor antagonist, or de novo use if there is suspicion of poor adherence. Nevertheless, use of the CV polypill requires follow-up on the achievement of the therapeutic objectives to make dose adjustments. Conclusions: This document is the first to establish recommendations for the use of the CV polypill in cerebrovascular disease, beyond its advantages in terms of treatment adherence. Resumen: Introducción: El control de los factores de riesgo cardiovascular (CV) en la prevención secundaria tras un ictus isquémico es bajo, en parte debido a la falta de adherencia terapéutica. La polipíldora CV puede contribuir a la buena cumplimentación del adecuado tratamiento para la prevención cerebrovascular. El objetivo fue establecer cómo y en qué casos se debería administrar. Métodos: Un grupo de 8 neurólogos redactaron recomendaciones consensuadas mediante una técnica de brainstorming estructurado, basándose en su experiencia y en una revisión bibliográfica. Resultados: Los resultados atienden a la opinión de los expertos. El uso de la polipíldora CV tiene ventajas para pacientes, profesionales sanitarios y para el sistema de salud. Las situaciones clínicas más adecuadas para su uso son el ictus aterotrombótico, el lacunar, el asociado a deterioro cognitivo, el criptogénico con factores de riesgo CV y la enfermedad cerebrovascular silente. Su uso preferente incluye la sospecha de mal cumplimiento, a los pacientes polimedicados, ancianos, polivasculares o con alta carga aterotrombótica, jóvenes activos laboralmente y pacientes con preferencias por la polipíldora CV. Las opciones de administración incluyen el paso de fármacos individuales a la polipíldora CV, el inicio directo desde la fase aguda en casos particulares, a los pacientes con otra estatina o con un antagonista del receptor de la angiotensina ii, o de novo si hubiera sospecha de mala adherencia. No obstante, su uso implica realizar seguimiento del cumplimiento de los objetivos terapéuticos para ajustar la dosis. Conclusiones: Este documento es el primero en establecer recomendaciones de uso de la polipíldora CV en enfermedad cerebrovascular, aparte de sus ventajas sobre la adherencia.
