Abstract

The purpose in this research, the performance of the undershot waterwheel with hydraulic channel modifications were investigated. Testing was carried out on undershot waterwheel with diameter of 0,48 m, width of 0,10 m and the number of blades of 12. Weir of 0,24 m, length headrace of 0,1 m under flow rate of 0,105 m3/s with variations sluice openings of 0,06 to 0,12 m and flow guide of 30° to determine the torque, power and efficiency of the wheel. The larger the sluice opening, the torsional tendency, power and efficiency increased. For each opening of sluice, power and efficiency increased to the value maximum and then tend to decreased. The use of flow guide of 30° in the modification of hydraulic channel carried out in this study, had not been able to increase the output power and efficiency of the wheel.

Abstract

Teachers are professional teaching staff who carry out the task of educating the next generation of the nation. In addition to educating, teachers are also required to be creative in teaching and learning activities and in managing the class. The teacher's creativity in managing the class can affect learning motivation and student learning outcomes. Good classroom management can create conducive classroom learning activities. To overcome the problem of the lack of creativity of elementary school teachers, training was held to make Class Displays. This training activity was attended by 10 teachers from an elementary school located in Karangsegar Village. The method used in the training activities for making Class Displays conducted at SDN Karangsegar 01 is by conducting outreach related to Class Displays to elementary teachers by providing knowledge about the meaning, purpose and benefits of Class Displays, then providing training on making Class Displays. The purpose of the Class Display making training is to provide motivation, understanding and skills for Elementary School teachers in making creative Class Displays. The results of the Training on Making Class Displays, including teachers understanding Class Displays, increasing teacher creativity in class displays and helping to increase student enthusiasm in class learning.

6. Ephedrine Infusion with Rescue Ephedrine Boluses versus Rescue Boluses alone for Preventing Hypotension during Spinal Anesthesia for Cesarean Delivery

Abstract

Background: Maternal hypotension is an unwanted consequence of the physiologic onset of spinal blockade, and causes both maternal and fetal effects. Maternal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and a sense of ‘‘impending doom’’ from inadequate cerebral perfusion. Inadequate treatment of hypotension can ultimately end with the loss of consciousness and cardiovascular collapse. Materials and methods: We included 80 full term parturient (ASA I or II) with uncomplicated pregnancies. The patients were prospectively randomized into two groups. 80 patients received 1000 mL NaCl 0,9 % solution before the initiation of spinal anesthesia. Maternal systolic blood pressure was measured every 1 minutes (for first 10 minutes) and then every 3 minutes. One group received ephedrine infusion (1 mg/min) with rescue ephedrine boluses (10 mg), (usually defined as a maternal blood pressure ˂ 30% above baseline), (40 patients) and the other received rescue boluses alone (10 mg) , (usually defined as a maternal blood pressure ˂ 30% above baseline), (40 patients). Results: Gr 1 (Ephedrine infusion with rescue ephedrine boluses). The incidence of hypotension was at 8 patients (8/40 [20%]),(when an absolute value of less than 90 mmHg). Gr 2 (rescue boluses ephedrine alone). The incidence of hypotension was at 32 patients (32/40 [80%]), (when an absolute value of less than 90 mmHg). Group 2 had a higher incidence of hypotension compared with group 1 (32/40 [80%]) vs (8/40 [20%]). Neonatal outcomes were not different between the 2 groups. Conclusion: Prophylactic variable rate ephedrine infusion and rescue ephedrine bolus dosing is more effective than relying on rescue ephedrine bolus dosing with respect to limiting clinician workload and maternal symptoms during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.Maternal hypotension

7. Fat Embolism Syndrome Without Bone Fracture: Is It Possible?

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Fat embolism syndrome is a life challenge syndrome. Early diagnosing and treatment can significantly improve the patient’s prognosis and likelihood of success. This syndrome occurs mainly after long bones fractures or orthopedic surgery up to 95% of diagnosed cases, but in unusual situation can be faced as well. These rare situations include diabetes mellitus, video-assisted thoracoscopies, fatty liver, and fat injection in plastic and cosmetic procedures. The likelihood of this syndrome can be increased if multiplex long bones fractures occur in the same patient simultaneously. This syndrome is usually manifested with respiratory changes (hypoxemia and ARDS), neurological focal symptoms (confusion, headache, aphasia, and hemiplegia), and skin abnormalities (petechias, and rush in conjunctiva and oral mucosa). The clinical scenario begins typically after 24−72 h of injury, and mainly, respiratory changes are the first, followed by neurological abnormalities and finally petechias as the most significant sign. CASE REPORT: In this case, we report a rare case of unexpected fat embolism syndrome after soft-tissue minimal trauma. This is the first case that we faced according to literature, and the aim of reporting this case is to emphasize that fat syndrome embolism can happen perhaps in every trauma patient even in minor soft-tissue trauma in absence of bone fractures. CONCLUSION: We strongly suggest that this case should make the physicians taking in consideration fat embolism syndrome even if bone fracture missed, to early diagnosing and adequately treating the patient, and optimizing his chances to survive.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the acquisition of conjunction elements in preschool children. This research is focused on the acquisition of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions in preschool-aged children. The subject of this research is a 5 year old girl. The data in this study are utterances from 5-year-old girls which contain elements of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research design. There are three stages of data analysis in this study, namely reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the conjunctions most frequently found in the speech of research subjects are coordinating conjunctions. The coordinating conjunctions found in the utterances of the research subjects are and, or, but, whereas, besides, moreover, only, except. The subordinating conjunctions found in the utterances of research subjects are if, if, for, so, before, after.

After a three-year quarantine from the deadliest global pandemic of the last century, ASTES is organizing to gather all health professionals in Tirana, The 6th Albanian Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery(ACTES 2022) on 11-12 November 2022, with the topic Trauma & Emergency Surgery and not only...with the aim of providing high quality, the best standards, and the best results, for our patients ...ACTES 2022 is the largest event that ASTES (Albanian Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery) has organized so far with 230 presentations, and 67 foreign lecturers with enviable geography, making it the largest national and wider scientific event.The scientific program is as strong as ever, thanks to the inclusiveness, where all the participants with a mix of foreign and local lecturers, select the best of the moment in medical science, innovation, and observation.The scientific committee has selected all the presentations so that the participants of each medical discipline will have something to learn, discuss, debate, and agree with updated methods, techniques, and protocols.I hope you will join us on Friday morning, and continue the journey of our two-day event together.

11. Variables que influyen en el grado de afectación de la actual pandemia en las pymes españolas. Especial referencia al sector servicios madrileño

Abstract

La pandemia ocasionada por la COVID-19 ha afectado especialmente a las pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes). Dado que estas son el motor de la economía española, resulta relevante analizar qué variables influyen en el grado de intensidad en que les ha afectado la actual pandemia. Para realizar este estudio se diseñó un cuestionario que fue cumplimentado por 268 pymes españolas. Este trabajo presenta los principales resultados obtenidos de la investigación efectuada a través de la técnica del análisis de la varianza (ANOVA). Entre ellos, cabe destacar que los factores que han incidido en el grado de impacto de la actual pandemia en las pymes españolas han sido: la edad del gerente, la no coincidencia en la misma persona de las figuras de gestor y propietario, su carácter familiar, la introducción de innovaciones organizativas, la solicitud de financiación ajena, variaciones en su nivel de endeudamiento, sus recursos líquidos y su actividad de explotación. Estos resultados aportan una contribución inicial en el análisis de los referidos factores, que como consecuencia de ciertas limitaciones no pueden generalizarse.

Abstract

In the era of precision measurements of the neutrino oscillation parameters, upcoming neutrino experiments will also be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. KM3NeT/ORCA is a neutrino detector optimised for measuring atmospheric neutrinos from a few GeV to around 100 GeV. In this paper, the sensitivity of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector to neutrino decay has been explored. A three-flavour neutrino oscillation scenario, where the third neutrino mass state $\nu_3$ decays into an invisible state, e.g. a sterile neutrino, is considered. We find that KM3NeT/ORCA would be sensitive to invisible neutrino decays with $1/\alpha_3=\tau_3/m_3 < 180$~$\mathrm{ps/eV}$ at $90\%$ confidence level, assuming true normal ordering. Finally, the impact of neutrino decay on the precision of KM3NeT/ORCA measurements for $\theta_{23}$, $\Delta m^2_{31}$ and mass ordering have been studied. Background and purpose: This study was undertaken to determine the diagnostic and prognostic value of a panel of serum biomarkers and to correlate their concentrations with several clinical parameters in a large cohort of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Abstract

The rapid development of information technology and the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has an impact on all lines of life, including the medical and health fields. The Ministry of Health has planned a digital transformation strategy in its blueprint planning document until 2024. One of the transformation strategies is about the health quality of clean water, because it is an important part in forming a healthy society. Sanitation health and clean water quality standards that have been set by the ministry of health in the process of being implemented by internal monitoring agencies, namely district/city health laboratories are generally still not digital-based. Health laboratories in general still carry out the registration service for the examination of clean water samples to the delivery of the results of labor examinations using paper records. It is prone to recording errors and is prone to loss. The process of digitizing the Clean Water Quality Inspection Information System was developed with a web-based application platform. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) research which was developed using the Process Flowchart Methodology or waterfalls. The flow of steps carried out is to analyze and build a design system and produce a system that becomes a recommendation in the process of transforming Information Technology-based services in the health sector for public services. 15. Spatiotemporal Analysis of Climate Comfort for Tourism Development in Jordan

Abstract

Tourism is one of the major sectors that influences the gross domestic product of countries. In this study, Thom’s Discomfort Index (DI) is used to evaluate the long-term climate comfort of humans in a spatiotemporal context in Jordan. Geospatial models were created to generate the distribution maps of climate variables and the DI for each month of the year. The maps were classified into eight comfort levels. The monthly long-term average of one-day visitors (2005-2018) was used for evaluation of the climate comfort. Results showed clear spatiotemporal variations in climate comfort levels in the country. The cold sensation was found from December to March in the highlands and the desert plateau, the moderate climate comfort level concentrated in April, May, and September in most of the country, and the hot comfort levels were found in Jordan Valley and the desert plateau in July and August.

Abstract

An isoform of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), PPARγ, is the receptor for the thiazolidinedione class of anti-diabetic medications including pioglitazone. Neuroanatomical data indicate PPARγ localization in brain areas involved in drug addiction. Preclinical and clinical data have shown that pioglitazone reduces alcohol and opioid self-administration, relapse to drug seeking, and plays a role in emotional responses. Here, we investigated the behavioral effect of PPARγ manipulation on nicotine withdrawal in male Wistar rats and in male mice with neuron-specific PPARγ deletion (PPARγ(−/−)) and their littermate wild-type (PPARγ(+/+)) controls. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR and RNAscopein situhybridization assays were used for assessing the levels of expression and cell-type localization of PPARγ during nicotine withdrawal. Brain site-specific microinjections of the PPARγ agonist pioglitazone were performed to explore the role of this system on nicotine withdrawal at a neurocircuitry level. Results showed that activation of PPARγ by pioglitazone abolished the expression of somatic and affective nicotine withdrawal signs in rats and in (PPARγ(+/+)) mice. This effect was blocked by the PPARγ antagonist GW9662. During early withdrawal and protracted abstinence, the expression of PPARγ increased in GABAergic and glutamatergic cells of the amygdala and hippocampus, respectively. Hippocampal microinjections of pioglitazone reduced the expression of the physical signs of withdrawal, whereas excessive anxiety associated with protracted abstinence was prevented by pioglitazone microinjection into the amygdala. Our results demonstrate the implication of the neuronal PPARγ in nicotine withdrawal and indicates that activation of PPARγ may offer an interesting strategy for smoking cessation.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENTSmoking cessation leads the occurrence of physical and affective withdrawal symptoms representing a major burden to quit tobacco use. Here, we show that activation of PPARγ prevents the expression of both somatic and affective signs of nicotine withdrawal. At molecular levels results show that PPARγ expression increases in GABAergic cells in the hippocampus and in GABA- and glutamate-positive cells in the basolateral amygdala. Hippocampal microinjections of pioglitazone reduce the insurgence of the physical withdrawal signs, whereas anxiety linked to protracted abstinence is attenuated by pioglitazone injected into the amygdala. Our results demonstrate the implication of neuronal PPARγ in nicotine withdrawal and suggest that PPARγ agonism may represent a promising treatment to aid smoking cessation.

Abstract

In sickle cell disease (SCD), heme released during intravascular hemolysis promotes oxidative stress, inflammation, and vaso-occlusion. Conversely, free heme can also activate expression of antioxidant and globin genes. Heme binds to the transcription factor BACH1, which represses NRF2-mediated gene transcription. ASP8731, is a selective small molecule inhibitor of BACH1. We investigated the ability of ASP8731 to modulate pathways involved in SCD pathophysiology. In HepG2 liver cells, ASP8731 increased HMOX1 and FTH1 mRNA. In pulmonary endothelial cells, ASP8731 decreased VCAM1 mRNA in response to TNF-α and blocked a decrease in glutathione in response to hemin. Townes-SS mice were gavaged once per day for 4 weeks with ASP8731, hydroxyurea (HU) or vehicle. Both ASP8731 and HU inhibited heme-mediated microvascular stasis and in combination, ASP8731 significantly reduced microvascular stasis compared to HU alone. In Townes-SS mice, ASP8731 and HU markedly increased heme oxygenase-1 and decreased hepatic ICAM-1, NF-kB phospho-p65 protein expression in the liver, and white blood cell counts. In addition, ASP8731 increased gamma-globin expression and HbF+ cells (F-cells) as compared to vehicle-treated mice. In human erythroid differentiated CD34+ cells, ASP8731 increased HGB mRNA and increased the percentage of F-cells 2-fold in manner similar to HU. ASP8731 and HU when given together induced more HbF+ cells compared to either drug alone. In CD34+ cells from one donor that was non-responsive to HU, ASP8731 induced HbF+ cells ~2-fold. ASP8731 and HU also increased HBG and HBA, but not HBB mRNA in erythroid differentiated CD34+ cells derived from SCD patients. These data indicate that BACH1 may offer a new therapeutic target to treat SCD.

Untuk itu orang tua perlu meningkatkan disiplin belajar anak di rumah. Masalahnya banyak orang tua yang belum memahami bagaimana menjalankan peran untuk meningkatkan disiplin belajar anak tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali bagaimana oang tua menjalankan peran meningkatkakn disiplin anak dalam pembelajaran PAK di rumah. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian adalah orang tua dapat berperan sebagai pendidik, panutan, pendorong, pengawas, teman atau sahabat, konselor, maupun imam. Secara khusus dalam belajar orang tua dapat berperan sebagai mentor dan motivator. Orang tua juga perlu menuntun anak kepada Yesus Kristus dan selalu mendoakan mereka. Agar anak tertib belajar orang tua dapat membantu anak membuat jadwal belajar di rumah dan mengawasi mereka dalam belajar.

This study aims to determine the effect of Le Minerale's new drinking water product design on consumer response and consumer loyalty. This study includes causal research, namely research that finds and describes a causal relationship between the Le Minerale retailer population. The data collection technique used the observational method by distributing questionnaires. Types and sources of data using primary data, validity and reliability are used to test the questionnaire. After the data is collected, the model test and hypothesis test are carried out. SPSS was used for data analysis. The results of this study, the new product design variable has a significant positive effect on cognitive response. New product design has a significant positive effect on affective response. Cognitive response and affective response have a positive and significant effect on behavioral brand loyalty. New product design has an effect on behavioral brand loyalty through cognitive response. New product design affects behavioral brand loyalty through affective response.

En España, las pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes) suponen más del 90 % del tejido empresarial. Por ello, entender la evolución económica de España y sus retos exige comprender los desafíos a los que se enfrenta la pyme. La actual pandemia originada por la COVID-19 ha impactado económica y socialmente a las empresas. En este complicado contexto en el que estamos inmersos, nos planteamos si las pymes españolas podrán adaptarse al futuro deviniente y seguir contribuyendo positivamente en la economía española y europea, como sucedió tras la crisis económica de 2007. Una crisis puede afectar en mayor o menor grado a una compañía en función de diferentes factores y circunstancias. Este trabajo presenta una revisión de la literatura sobre las variables que han influido en la supervivencia y éxito empresarial de las pymes en épocas críticas. Para llevar a cabo el objetivo y sintetizar de manera sistemática las publicaciones previas, se utiliza la metodología de snowballing, propuesta por Wohlin (2014), y las directrices propuestas por Keele (2007).

Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries are used in various extreme environments, such as cold regions and outer space; thus, improvements in energy density, safety, and cycle life in these environments are urgently required. We investigated changes in the charge and discharge properties of Si-based electrodes in ionic liquid electrolytes with decreasing temperature and the cycle life at low temperature. The reversible capacity at low temperature was determined by the properties of the surface film on the electrodes and/or the ionic conductivity of the electrolytes. The electrode coated with a surface film formed at a low temperature exhibited insufficient capacity. In contrast, a Si-only electrode precoated with the surface film at room temperature exhibited a cycle life at low temperatures in ionic liquid electrolytes longer than that in conventional organic liquid electrolytes. Doping phosphorus into Si led to improved cycling performance, and its impact was more noticeable at lower temperatures.

Abstract

[EN] Searches for dark matter (DM) have not provided any solid evidence for the existence of weakly interacting massive particles in the GeV-TeV mass range. Coincidentally, the scale of new physics is being pushed by collider searches well beyond the TeV domain. This situation strongly motivates the exploration of DM masses much larger than a TeV. Secluded scenarios contain a natural way around the unitarity bound on the DM mass, via the early matter domination induced by the mediator of its interactions with the Standard Model. High-energy neutrinos constitute one of the very few direct accesses to energy scales above a few TeV. An indirect search for secluded DM signals has been performed with the ANTARES neutrino telescope using data from 2007 to 2015. 26. Clinical Features and Biomarkers to Differentiate Primary and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in Patients With an Upper Motor Neuron Syndrome

Abstract

Background:Differentiation between primary (PLS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) entails relevant consequences for prognosis and management but is mostly unreliable at early stages. The objectives of the study are: i) to determine the features at onset that could help to differentiate between PLS and ALS; ii) to evaluate the diagnostic performance of an integrated serum biomarker panel; iii) to identify the prognostic factors for patients presenting with an upper motor neuron (UMN)-syndrome.Methods:We selected and retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients presenting with UMN-syndrome. At the first evaluation, when available, serum biomarkers were measured using ultrasensitive single molecule array.Results:Study population included 55 PLS and 50 ALS patients. PLS patients presented a longer time to first neurological evaluation (PLS: 35.0 months, IQR: 17.0-38.0; ALS: 12.5 months, IQR: 7.0-21.3; pC9orf72expansion. NfL resulted an independent predictor of final diagnosis (OR: 1.01, 95%CI: 1.00-1.02; p=0.04) and an independent prognostic factor (HR: 1.01, 95%CI: 1.00-1.01; pConclusions:NfL might help to differentiate PLS from ALS patients and to predict prognosis in patients with an UMN-syndrome.

29. Abstract TP159: Association Of Lesion Characteristics And Neurological Outcomes In Neonatal Arterial Ischemic Stroke Patients

Abstract

Background: Neonatal arterial ischemic stroke (NAIS) occurs as a result of an acute focal cerebral arterial infarction between birth and 28 days of life in nearly 1:2500 live births. As there are few studies examining the relationship between NAIS lesion characteristics and clinical outcomes, this study aims to determine if lesion volume and lesion location are associated with abnormal neurological outcomes in NAIS. Methods: Semi-automated lesion segmentation of co-registered multi-modal images was conducted using ITK-SNAP. Semi-automated lesion segmentations with manual corrections were performed using ITK-SNAP software. Lesion volumes were corrected for head size by dividing lesion volumes by total intracranial volume, and correlated (using Kendall's Tau-b [τ b ]) with neurological outcome that was assessed with the Pediatric Stroke Outcome Measure (PSOM). Results: Participants included N=20 NAIS patients (mean [M] weeks gestation=39.5, +/-1.64; 55% male, 70% single infarct, 75% left-sided lesions). Outcome was assessed an average of 312, +/-7.6 days post-stroke. Neurological deficits were present in 50% (with seizures in 85%) at time of stroke, and infarct locations most commonly involved supratentorial cortical structures (75%), however none were correlated with outcome. Larger lesion volumes (M=5.35 mm 3 , +/-0.069) were correlated with poor outcome (τ b =.444, p=0.02). Conclusion: We found larger lesion volume to be associated with atypical clinical outcomes following NAIS. Further analysis is in progress that include changes over time in lesion characteristics and outcome. These results demonstrate a need for better characterize the relationship between lesion characteristics and outcomes in NAIS.

30. Nicotine but not saline self-administering or yoked control conditions produces sustained neuroadaptations in the accumbens shell

Abstract

IntroductionUsing yoked animals as the control when monitoring operant drug-self-administration is considered the golden standard. However, instrumental learning per se recruits several neurocircuits that may produce distinct or overlapping neuroadaptations with drugs of abuse. The aim of this project was to assess if contingent responding for nicotine or saline in the presence of a light stimulus as a conditioned reinforcer is associated with sustained neurophysiological adaptations in the nucleus accumbens shell (nAcS), a brain region repeatedly associated with reward related behaviors.MethodsTo this end, nicotine-or saline-administrating rats and yoked-saline stimulus-unpaired training conditions were assessed in operant boxes over four consecutive weeks. After four additional weeks of home cage forced abstinence and subsequent cue reinforced responding under extinction conditions, ex vivo electrophysiology was performed in the nAcS medium spiny neurons (MSNs).ResultsWhole cell recordings conducted in voltage and current-clamp mode showed that excitatory synapses in the nAcS were altered after prolonged forced abstinence from nicotine self-administration. We observed an increase in sEPSC amplitude in animals with a history of contingent nicotine SA potentially indicating higher excitability of accumbal MSNs, which was further supported by current clamp recordings. Interestingly no sustained neuroadaptations were elicited in saline exposed rats from nicotine associated visual cues compared to the yoked controls.ConclusionThe data presented here indicate that nicotine self-administration produces sustained neuroadaptations in the nAcS while operant responding driven by nicotine visual stimuli has no long-term effects on MSNs in nAcS.

Abstract

Since 2015 the LIGO and Virgo interferometers have detected gravitational waves from almost one hundred coalescences of compact objects (black holes and neutron stars). This article presents the results of a search performed with data from the ANTARES telescope to identify neutrino counterparts to the gravitational wave sources detected during the third LIGO/Virgo observing run and reported in the catalogues GWTC-2, GWTC-2.1, and GWTC-3. This search is sensitive to all-sky neutrinos of all flavours and of energies $>100$ GeV, thanks to the inclusion of both track-like events (mainly induced by $\nu_\mu$ charged-current interactions) and shower-like events (induced by other interaction types). Neutrinos are selected if they are detected within $\pm 500$ s from the GW merger and with a reconstructed direction compatible with its sky localisation. No significant excess is found for any of the 80 analysed GW events, and upper limits on the neutrino emission are derived. Using the information from the GW catalogues and assuming isotropic emission, upper limits on the total energy $E_{\rm tot, \nu}$ emitted as neutrinos of all flavours and on the ratio $f_\nu = E_{\rm tot, \nu}/E_{\rm GW}$ between neutrino and GW emissions are also computed. Finally, a stacked analysis of all the 72 binary black hole mergers (respectively the 7 neutron star - black hole merger candidates) has been performed to constrain the typical neutrino emission within this population, leading to the limits: $E_{\rm tot, \nu} < 4.0 \times 10^{53}$ erg and $f_\nu < 0.15$ (respectively, $E_{\rm tot, \nu} < 3.2 \times 10^{53}$ erg and $f_\nu < 0.88$) for $E^{-2}$ spectrum and isotropic emission. Abstract

Atmospheric muon neutrinos are produced by meson decays in cosmic-ray-induced air showers. The flux depends on meteorological quantities such as the air temperature, which affects the density of air. Competition between decay and re-interaction of those mesons in the first particle production generations gives rise to a higher neutrino flux when the air density in the stratosphere is lower, corresponding to a higher temperature. A measurement of a temperature dependence of the atmospheric $\nu_{\mu}$ flux provides a novel method for constraining hadro\-nic interaction models of air showers. It is particularly sensitive to the production of kaons. Studying this temperature dependence for the first time requires a large sample of high-energy neutrinos as well as a detailed understanding of atmospheric properties. We report the significant ($> 10 \sigma$) observation of a correlation between the rate of more than 260,000 neutrinos, detected by IceCube between 2012 and 2018, and atmospheric temperatures of the stratosphere, measured by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument aboard NASA's AQUA satellite. For the observed 10$\%$ seasonal change of effective atmospheric temperature we measure a 3.5(3)$\%$ change in the muon neutrino flux. This observed correlation deviates by about 2-3 standard deviations from the expected correlation of 4.3$\%$ as obtained from theoretical predictions under the assumption of various hadronic interaction models, Comment: Preprint submitted to EPJC

Abstract

Space-time memory (STM) network methods have been dominant in semi-supervised video object segmentation (SVOS) due to their remarkable performance. In this work, we identify three key aspects where we can improve such methods; i) supervisory signal, ii) pretraining and iii) spatial awareness. We then propose TrickVOS; a generic, method-agnostic bag of tricks addressing each aspect with i) a structure-aware hybrid loss, ii) a simple decoder pretraining regime and iii) a cheap tracker that imposes spatial constraints in model predictions. Finally, we propose a lightweight network and show that when trained with TrickVOS, it achieves competitive results to state-of-the-art methods on DAVIS and YouTube benchmarks, while being one of the first STM-based SVOS methods that can run in real-time on a mobile device., Comment: Accepted to ICIP 2023

Abstract

The LIGO/Virgo collaboration published the catalogs GWTC-1, GWTC-2.1 and GWTC-3 containing candidate gravitational-wave (GW) events detected during its runs O1, O2 and O3. These GW events can be possible sites of neutrino emission. In this paper, we present a search for neutrino counterparts of 90 GW candidates using IceCube DeepCore, the low-energy infill array of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The search is conducted using an unbinned maximum likelihood method, within a time window of 1000 s and uses the spatial and timing information from the GW events. The neutrinos used for the search have energies ranging from a few GeV to several tens of TeV. We do not find any significant emission of neutrinos, and place upper limits on the flux and the isotropic-equivalent energy emitted in low-energy neutrinos. We also conduct a binomial test to search for source populations potentially contributing to neutrino emission. Abstract

In the quest for high-energy neutrino sources, the Astrophysical Multimessenger Observatory Network has implemented a new search by combining data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory and the Astronomy with a Neutrino Telescope and Abyss environmental RESearch (ANTARES) neutrino telescope. Using the same analysis strategy as in a previous detector combination of HAWC and IceCube data, we perform a search for coincidences in HAWC and ANTARES events that are below the threshold for sending public alerts in each individual detector. Data were collected between 2015 July and 2020 February with a live time of 4.39 yr. Abstract

The Galactic plane, harboring a diffuse neutrino flux, is a particularly interesting target to study potential cosmic-ray acceleration sites. Recent gamma-ray observations by HAWC and LHAASO have presented evidence for multiple Galactic sources that exhibit a spatially extended morphology and have energy spectra continuing beyond 100 TeV. A fraction of such emission could be produced by interactions of accelerated hadronic cosmic rays, resulting in an excess of high-energy neutrinos clustered near these regions. Using 10 years of IceCube data comprising track-like events that originate from charged-current muon neutrino interactions, we perform a dedicated search for extended neutrino sources in the Galaxy. We find no evidence for time-integrated neutrino emission from the potential extended sources studied in the Galactic plane. The most significant location, at 2.6$\sigma$ post-trials, is a 1.7$^\circ$ sized region coincident with the unidentified TeV gamma-ray source 3HWC J1951+266. Abstract

Alcohol addiction is a chronic relapsing brain disease characterized by an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse consequences. A main challenge of addiction treatment is to prevent relapse, which occurs in more than >50% of newly abstinent patients with alcohol disorder within 3 months. In people suffering from alcohol addiction, stressful events, drug-associated cues and contexts, or re-exposure to a small amount of alcohol trigger a chain of behaviors that frequently culminates in relapse. In this review, we first present the preclinical models that were developed for the study of alcohol seeking behavior, namely the reinstatement model of alcohol relapse and compulsive alcohol seeking under a chained schedule of reinforcement. We then provide an overview of the neurobiological findings obtained using these animal models, focusing on the role of opioids systems, corticotropin-release hormone and neurokinins, followed by dopaminergic, glutamatergic, and GABAergic neurotransmissions in alcohol seeking behavior. Abstract

BACKGROUND: Alcohol addiction is characterized by persistent neuroadaptations in brain structures involved in motivation, emotion, and decision making, including the medial prefrontal cortex, the nucleus accumbens, and the amygdala. We previously reported that induction of alcohol dependence was associated with long-term changes in the expression of genes involved in neurotransmitter release. Specifically, Syt1, which plays a key role in neurotransmitter release and neuronal functions, was downregulated. Here, we therefore examined the role of Syt1 in alcohol-associated behaviors in rats. METHODS: We evaluated the effect of Syt1 downregulation using an adeno-associated virus (AAV) containing a short hairpin RNA against Syt1. Cre-dependent Syt1 was also used in combination with an rAAV2 retro-Cre virus to assess circuit-specific effects of Syt1 knockdown (KD). RESULTS: Alcohol-induced downregulation of Syt1 is specific to the prelimbic cortex (PL), and KD of Syt1 in the PL resulted in escalated alcohol consumption, increased motivation to consume alcohol, and increased alcohol drinking despite negative consequences ("compulsivity"). Syt1 KD in the PL altered the excitation/inhibition balance in the basolateral amygdala, while the nucleus accumbens core was unaffected. Accordingly, a projection-specific Syt1 KD in the PL-basolateral amygdala projection was sufficient to increase compulsive alcohol drinking, while a KD of Syt1 restricted to PL-nucleus accumbens core projecting neurons had no effect on tested alcohol-related behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: Together, these data suggest that dysregulation of Syt1 is an important mechanism in long-term neuroadaptations observed after a history of alcohol dependence, and that Syt1 regulates alcohol-related behaviors in part by affecting a PL-basolateral amygdala brain circuit. Abstract

Astrocytes provide structural and metabolic support of neuronal tissue, but may also be involved in shaping synaptic output. To further define the role of striatal astrocytes in modulating neurotransmission we performed in vivo microdialysis and ex vivo slice electrophysiology combined with metabolic, chemogenetic, and pharmacological approaches. Microdialysis recordings revealed that intrastriatal perfusion of the metabolic uncoupler fluorocitrate (FC) produced a robust increase in extracellular glutamate levels, with a parallel and progressive decline in glutamine. In addition, FC significantly increased the microdialysate concentrations of dopamine and taurine, but did not modulate the extracellular levels of glycine or serine. Despite the increase in glutamate levels, ex vivo electrophysiology demonstrated a reduced excitability of striatal neurons in response to FC. The decrease in evoked potentials was accompanied by an increased paired pulse ratio, and a reduced frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents, suggesting that FC depresses striatal output by reducing the probability of transmitter release. The effect by FC was mimicked by chemogenetic inhibition of astrocytes using G(i)-coupled designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADDs) targeting GFAP, and by the glial glutamate transporter inhibitor TFB-TBOA. Both FC- and TFB-TBOA-mediated synaptic depression were inhibited in brain slices pre-treated with the dopamine D2 receptor antagonist sulpiride, but insensitive to agents acting on presynaptic glutamatergic autoreceptors, NMDA receptors, gap junction coupling, cannabinoid 1 receptors, µ-opioid receptors, P2 receptors or GABA(A) receptors. In conclusion, our data collectively support a role for astrocytes in modulating striatal neurotransmission and suggest that reduced transmission after astrocytic inhibition involves dopamine.
