This study aimed to compare the depression and grief levels between patients with persistent complex bereavement disorder who have alexithymia and those who do not have alexithymia. This study also aimed to examine the correlations between these variables. A total of 80 patients with persistent complex bereavement disorders were included and divided into two groups: alexithymia (n = 45) and nonalexithymia (n = 35). Each patient was evaluated using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Inventory of Complicated Grief and the Beck Depression Inventory. Individuals with alexithymia who have symptoms of complicated grief may experience more severe depression and grief than patients without alexithymia. Among individuals with alexithymia, the difficulty identifying feelings dimension may be a predictor of complicated grief, and the externally oriented thinking dimension appears to be significant in terms of masking depressive symptoms.

The Self-Evaluation of Negative Symptoms Scale (SNS) is a self-report scale that evaluates a patient's subjective experience on all five domains of the negative symptoms. This study aimed to present the adaptation and validation study of the Turkish version of SNS(SNS-TR).Seventy-five patients and 50 controls were recruited for this study. After the approval of the translation, participants were asked to fill out SNS-TR by themselves. They were interviewed with the Brief Negative Symptoms Scale (BNSS), Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), and Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS).SNS-TR showed good internal consistency in the reliability analysis with Cronbach's alpha= 0.873. Subscale-total score correlation coefficients were significant (To conclude, our study indicates that SNS-TR is an easily applicable self-evaluation tool with good psychometric properties for assessing negative symptoms. KEY POINTSSNS is a novel and easily applicable self-report scale for examining negative symptoms in schizophrenia patients, allowing them to evaluate their subjective experience on all five domains of the negative symptoms.It shows good internal consistency (α= 0.873) which is similar to the original version (α = 0.867).Confirmatory factor analysis scores were found in acceptable ranges and SNS-TR confirm the five-factor structure.Using this scale in clinical practice would empower both the physician's examinations and patient participation through treatment and follow-up course.

PURPOSE/BACKGROUND Emotional adverse effects due to antidepressant use may cause difficulties for the clinician in the treatment of depression. In this prospective study, the emotional adverse effects of antidepressants were evaluated in various aspects. METHODS/PROCEDURES Ninety eight patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder were included in the study. At 2nd, 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th weeks, patients were assessed with Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and the antidepressant dose was increased in patients with less than a 50% reduction at each visit compared with the initial MADRS score. The Oxford Questionnaire on the Emotional Side-effects of Antidepressants (OQESA) was used at the 8th-week and 16th-week visits. FINDINGS/RESULTS A significant difference is found in the OQESA score at the 8th-week visit compared with the 16th-week assessment (P < 0.001, t = 5.73). There were significant correlations between MADRS scores and OQESA scores both at the 8th (r = 0.346, P = 0.05) and the 16th (r = 0.490, P < 0.001) weeks. In regression analyses, at eighth-week assessment, MADRS score (B = 1.487, P = 0.002) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor use (B = 14.014, P = 0.023) had a significantly predicted OQESA score. IMPLICATIONS/CONCLUSIONS In this study, it is found that, as the rate of remitted patients is increased, OQESA scores get decreased, and furthermore, the OQESA score of the remitted group is statistically low when compared with that of the nonremitted group at the 8th- and 16th-week visits. Oxford Questionnaire on the Emotional Side-effects of Antidepressants and MADRS scores are significantly correlated in all assessments. These results suggest that the score obtained from OQESA may be related not only to the emotional adverse effects of antidepressants but also to the residual symptoms of depression.

Aims To perform the validation of the Comprehensive Assessment at Risk Mental State (CAARMS) in Turkish. Methods Sixty-five volunteers (15-24 years) were enrolled in this study. Concurrent validity was performed with Spearman's Correlation Test using Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Median scores of the groups were compared using Mann-Whitney U Test. Interrater reliability was assessed by intragroup correlation coefficient method. Internal consistency was studied by the calculation of Cronbach Alfa Coefficient. Results The correlation of the severity scores of the CAARMS with unusual thought content, suspiciousness, hallucinations and conceptual disorganization items of the BPRS showed that the concurrent validity was good. ROC analysis revealed that CAARMS could discriminate between individuals with UHR and healthy volunteers well. We found a good correlation between the raters. Internal consistency was at very high level. Conclusion Analyses of concurrent validity, criterion validity, interrater reliability and internal consistency indicate that the Turkish version is valid and reliable.

Background: No scale exists to assess patients at-risk for bipolar disorder (BD) in Turkey. We aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Interview and Scale-Full Prospective (BPSS-FP).

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the Categorical and Dimensional Psychometric Properties of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders (SCID-5-PD) after its translation to the Turkish.The study was carried out with 102 volunteers from two university hospitals. The SCID interview was conducted by two experienced psychiatrists who interchanged positions as interviewer and observer; and completed the research forms without discussing the patient. The diagnostic agreement between the interviewers and the Kappa coefficient were calculated. Divergent and convergent validity analyses were carried out for diagnostic validity and the scores obtained from the self-report form as well as the dimensional evaluation scores were used in the statistical analyses.The group mean age for volunteers was 39.6±11.6 years and 66.7% consisted of females. The Kappa values for personality categories were 0.79 for avoidant personality structure, 0.64 for dependent personality structure, 0.81 for obsessive-compulsive personality structure, 0.76 for paranoid personality structure, 0.49 for schizotypal personality structure, 0.90 for histrionic personality structure, 0.66 for narcissistic personality structure, 0.89 for borderline personality structure and 0.71 for antisocial personality structure. Dimensional evaluation showed significant correlation with the diagnostic agreement between the interviewers and also with the scores of the self-report forms completed by the participants.The results demosntrated that the Turkish version of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders (SCID- 5-PD-CV-TR) is valid and reliable.

Objective: Major depressive disorder is the leading cause of non-fatal burden, and disability in adulthood. Even though depression is well-treated in the acute term,psychosocial functioning does not get back to the premorbid level most of the time. In this present study, it is aimed to evaluate the outcome of the acute term treatment of major depressive disorder in terms of psychosocial functioning. Methods: The study is an open-label, observational, multi-center follow-up study for four months of patients with major depressive disorder according to DSM-5. Patients were evaluated with Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) at the beginning, and at the 2., 4., 8., 12. and 16.weeks. Results: 100 patients were invited to the study and 56 patients completed the study.As a result of the treatment, the mean MADRS and SDS scores decreased significantly. All domains of SF-36 were improved significantly with the treatment. Unfortunately patients suffering from MDD could not reach the normative data,especially on the domains of social functioning, role emotional, pain, and general health perception. Treatment outcomes show that SNRI users presented higher scores on the domains of pain and physical functioning. However SSRI users showed better outcomes on the domains of mental health and vitality. Conclusion: Our research corroborated that even patients gain symptomatic remission in MDD treatment, psychosocial dysfunction persists. It is also concluded that different antidepressant options may act differently on treatment outcomes. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.

Introduction Even though an increase in the number of hospital admissions for manic and depressive periods at certain times of the year is reported in bipolar disorder (BD), mood symptoms do not show a seasonal variation. We aimed to find out the possible causes of increased hospital admissions of BD patients in certain periods of the year. Methods The study was carried out in four centers in Turkey. The patient group consisted of 41 persons with a diagnosis of BD in remission. The healthy control (HC) group consists of 37 persons. The selected evaluation times are fall equinox (September 23), spring equinox (March 21), summer solstice (June 21) and winter solstice (December 21). For mood symptoms, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Young Mania Rating Scale; for functioning Functioning Assessment Short Test; for neurocognition Stroop Test (ST) and Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), for biological rhythm Biological Rhythms Interview of Assessment in Neuropsychiatry, and Seasonal Pattern Assessment Questionnaire were used. Results In terms of mood symptoms no seasonal variation was found. Across all four periods of assessment of BD group, statistically significant variation was only observed in the instant recall, learning and recognition domains of RAVLT and word test and color test domains of ST; however, it was not sufficient to distinguish the BD group separating from the control group. Conclusions In terms of mood symptoms, psychosocial functionality, biological rhythm, neurocognition, no seasonal variation was demonstrated that could distinguish the BD group from the HC group.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) Level 2 Anger Scale. Methods: The scale was prepared by translation and back translation of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale. Study groups consisted of a clinical sample of cases diagnosed with depressive disorder and treated in a child and adolescent psychiatry unit and a community sample. The study was continued with 218 children and 160 parents. In the assessment process, child and parent forms of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale and Children’s Depression Inventory and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form were used. Results: In the reliability analyses, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient values were found very high regarding child and parent forms. Item-total score correlation coefficients were high and very high, respectively, for child and parent forms indicating a statistical significance. As for construct validity, one factor was maintained for each form and was found to be consistent with the original form of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the child form of the scale showed significant correlation with Children’s Depression Inventory, while the parent form showed significant correlation with Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form. Conclusion: It was found that the Turkish version of DSM-5 Level 2 Anger Scale could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © 2017 by Turkish Association of Neuropsychiatry.

The aim of this study was to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the WFIRS-S-TR, Turkish version of the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale-Self Report form.The study comprised two groups of participants of 15-18 years of age, one consisting of 35 children diagnosed with attention deficit and hyperativity disorder (ADHD) based on the DSM-IV criteria and the other, 510 healthy volunteers attending high school. Apart from the WFIRS-S-TR, the Health Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (KIDSCREEN-10 Index) which is a general quality of life and functionality measurement instrument, was used to check the concurrent validity of the WFIRS-S-TR.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.939. The test-retest reliability assessed by repeated measurements two weeks apart gave a high correlation between the results (r=0.804, p0.0001). Total mean score of the WFIRS-S-TR showed significant correlation with the KIDSCREEN-10 Index total mean score (r= -0.467, p0.0001). Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out for the construct validity of the WFIRS-S-TR. The RMSEA and the CFI values were found to be 0.065 and 0.68, respectively.The WFIRS-S-TR can be used as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to adapt the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5-ClinicianVersion into Turkish and to demonstrate its reliability. Method: A total of 185 patients, both inpatient and outpatient, from two different university hospitals were included. Training sessions on the features and use of SCID-5/CV were held before the data collection. During the study, in order to test the diagnostic agreement and accuracy, two psychiatrists remained present at the evaluation of each participant; alternatively being interviewer and the observer. Cohen's kappa coefficient for inter-rater reliability was calculated for every diagnostic category. Results: The patient group had a mean age of 37.2 (±13.5) years and 55.7% were female. The education status was as follows: 2.7% were illiterate, 1.7% literate with no primary education, 33% had primary education, 23.8% had secondary education and 38.9% had higher education. The calculated kappa value showed excellent agreement for schizophrenia (κ=0.93), bipolar disorder (κ=0.96), major depressive disorder (κ=0.89), dysthymic disorder (κ=0.82), alcohol use disorder (κ=0.96), panic disorder (κ=0.84), agoraphobia (κ=0.85), social anxiety disorder (κ=0.95), generalized anxiety disorder (κ=0.89), obsessive compulsive disorder (κ=0.87), posttraumatic stress disorder (κ=0.89), adult attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (κ=1.00), specific phobias (κ=0.82) and very good agreement with adjustment disorder (κ=0.78) and somatic symptom disorder (κ=0.65). Conclusion: Similar to the past SCID versions, kappa values were found to be quite high and all were statistically significant. The Turkish version of SCID-5/ CV can be reliably used in both clinical practice and clinical studies. © 2019, Turkish Association of Nervous and Mental Health.

The goal of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM–5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition) Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale–Child Form. The scale was prepared by translating and then back-translating the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale. The study groups included one group of 30 patients diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder who were treated in a child and adolescent psychiatry unit and another group of 83 healthy volunteers from middle and high schools in the community. For assessment, the Adolescent Dissociative Experiences Scale (ADES) was used in addition to the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale. Regarding the reliability of the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale, Cronbach’s alpha was.824 and item–total score correlation coefficients were between.464 and.648. The test–retest correlation coefficient was calculated to be r =.784. In terms of construct validity, one factor accounted for 45.2% of the variance. Furthermore, in terms of concurrent validity, the scale showed a high correlation with the ADES. In conclusion, the Turkish version of the DSM–5 Dissociative Symptoms Severity Scale–Child Form is a valid and reliable tool for both clinical practice and research. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Objective: Negative symptoms in schizophrenia have been assessed by many instruments. However, a current consensus on these symptoms has been built and new tools, such as the Brief Negative Symptom Scale (BNSS), are generated. This study aimed to evaluate reliability and validity of the Turkish version of BNSS.Methods: The scale was translated to Turkish and backtranslated to English. After the approval of the translation, 75 schizophrenia patients were interviewed with BNSS, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS) and Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale (ESRS). Reliability and validity analyses were then calculated.Results: In the reliability analysis, the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.96 and item-total score correlation coefficients were between 0.655-0.884. Relation of the Nine Types of Temperament Model with personality disorders Objective: Aim of this study is to determine the correspondence between personality categories and the types making up the Nine Types of Temperament Model (NTTM) –a new temperament model which evaluates personality disorders within the context of temperament traits and maladaptive personality featuresand conceptualization of NTTM types. Method: The sample group is composed of 117 participants with a personality disorder. SCID II and Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) were applied to the participants. Results: According to the findings, all NTTM types have shown significant correlation with at least one personality disorder. According to the regression analysis results, it was determined that the NTTM types were explained by personality disorders at a rate of 19-41%. Conclusions: In this study, it is found that knowing the temperament features that form the basis of an individual’s personality structure is helpful to diagnose and to determine the tendency to develop personality disorders that are pathological responses to personality characteristics. In addition, this study brings up questions such as whether the individual differences between patients with the same personality disorders can be evaluated on the basis of temperament and whether it is possible to determine therapy and treatment approaches according to an individual’s temperament type.

Introduction The aim of this study was to assess psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Dementia Attitudes Scale which is developed to determine attitudes towards dementia. Methods 326 volunteered students between the age of 20-44 years, studying in Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences are included in this methodological study. Data of the study were collected with "Demographic Data Form", "Dementia Attitudes Scale" and "UCLA-Geriatrics Attitudes Scale". For the analysis of the data, the SPSS and Lisrel software were used. Results The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the Dementia Attitudes Scale is 0.84 which is quite high. Confirmatory factor analysis has supported three factor-structure of the scale: "Supporting attitude", "Accepting attitude" and "Exclusionary attitude". Confirmatory factor analysis revealed goodness of fit coefficients as 0.076 for RMSEA, 2.86 for the chi-square/sd, and 0.93 for CFI. The analysis showed that the adapted scale fits the model very well. The scale can discriminate between demographic characteristics and attitudes to dementia. The scale significantly correlates with UCLA-Geriatric Attitudes Scale measuring attitude towards the elderly. Conclusion Dementia Attitude Scale is a valid and reliable scale that can be used in studies evaluating the attitude towards dementia.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale. Method: Thirty subjects with bipolar disorder and 122 healthy control subjects were enrolled in this study. All participants were 1st grade students of Celal Bayar University and were part of the study on the epidemiology of bipolar disorder. The Hypomania Checklist-32-Revised was used for concurrent validity. Statistical analysis, internal consistency coefficient, item-total score correlation coefficients, exploratory factor analysis, correlation with concurrent scale and ROC curve were calculated Results: The Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale was first translated into Turkish and than back-translated into English which led to the semantic harmony of the scale. Cronbach alpha coefficient was between 0.969 and 0.979, the item-total score correlations were between 0.767 and 0.929, and 0.725-0.890. The factor analysis for the severity subscale showed a one-factor solution representing 79% of the variance and the frequency subscale one-factor solution represented 72% of the solution. Correlation of Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale with Hypomania Checklist-32-Revised was r=0.513 and 0.530. The ROC analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.977 and 0.999. The scale discriminates well between the bipolar group and healthy control group. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Scale developed for screening hypomania is reported to be reliable and valid. © 2018 Turkish Association of Nervous and Mental Health.

Background/aim: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of 32 patients treated in a child psychiatry unit and diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and 98 healthy volunteers who were attending middle or high school during the study period. For the assessment, the Screen for Child Anxiety and Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was also used along with the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form. Results: Regarding reliability analyses, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.932. The test–retest correlation coefficient was calculated as r = 0.707. As for construct validity, one factor that could explain 62.6% of the variance was obtained and this was consistent with the original construct of the scale. As for concurrent validity, the scale showed a high correlation with SCARED. Conclusion: It was concluded that Turkish version of the DSM-5 Generalized Anxiety Disorder Severity Scale - Child Form could be utilized as a valid and reliable tool both in clinical practice and for research purposes. © TÜBİTAK.

Aims: In this study, the probable relationships between the types and factors of the Five Factor Model of Personality (FFM), which is a contemporary personality model, and the Nine Types Temperament Model (NTTM), which is a new temperament model, were investigated. Separately, the power of some of the types of NTTM to predict the dimensions of FFM was evaluated, as well. Place and Duration of Study: Bezmialem Vakif University (BVU) Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (Turkey) between June 2013 and January 2014. Methodology: The sampling of the research consists of 247 healthy volunteers. Materials of the research include the Five-Factor Personality Inventory (FFPI) and The Nine Type Temperament Scale (NTTS). Results: All types of NTTM showed a significant correlation along with at least one of the FFPI factors at the level of 0.40 and above. Furthermore, the types of NTTM were determined to have predicted the dimensions of the FFPI by 34% and above. Conclusion: Significant correlations were found between the types of NTTM and the FFM factors. The results are discussed in regards to how the differences in the conceptual approach can be understood and the area of use between NTTM and FFM.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Turkish Version of DSM-5 Level 2 Anxiety Scale’s child and parent forms. Methods: The scale was constructed by carrying out the translation and back translation of DSM-5 Level 2 Anxiety Scale. The study group consisted of a community and clinical sample. The scale was applied to 148 parents and 189 adolescents that represented the clinical and community sample. During the assessment process, Screen for Childhood Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form were also used. Results: Reliability analyses indicated a high internal consistency regarding Level 2 Anxiety Scales, both for child and parent forms (0.915/0.933). Anhedonia is a core feature of many psychiatric disorders and its reliable evaluation is needed for the dimensional understanding of psychiatric disorders. Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS) is one of the most widely used scale to assess anhedonia. Here, we aimed to search the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of SHAPS. Translation of the original scale was completed in a two-step procedure. 188 healthy controls, 56 patients with a depressive disorder (F32-F34, excluding F34.0 cyclothymic disorder, according to ICD-10), and 52 patients with anxiety, stress-related or somatoform disorder diagnoses (F40-49 diagnosis according to ICD-10) were recruited, and evaluated with the Turkish version of SHAPS, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R). For the Turkish version of SHAPS, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found 0.87. The item-total item correlation indices ranged from 0.39 to 0.64. Principal components analysis extracted two factors and explained 46.57 % of total variance. The most significant correlation of SHAPS was found with BDI scores. SHAPS weakly correlated with somatization, interpersonal sensitivity and depression sub-scales of SCL-90-R, but not with BAI or other sub-scales of SCL-90-R. Depressive group had significantly higher SHAPS scores compared to controls and anxious group. Anxious group and control group were not significantly different for SHAPS scores. The current study shows that the Turkish version of the SHAPS has good psychometric properties. SHAPS scores may correlate with depression, somatization, and interpersonal sensitivity scores, and it may help to differentiate depressive patients from anxious patients and controls.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Sexual Adjustment and Body Image Scale (SABIS), a self-report measure of body image and sexual adjustment for use with Turkish patients with breast cancer. We administered the SABIS to one hundred sixty-nine women who had undergone initial surgical treatment for primary breast cancer. The psychometric properties of the SABIS were examined, and it was found to be a reliable and valid assessment of body image and sexuality in patients with breast cancer following surgery; however, it did not cover all dimensions representing patients’ sexuality and body image. Patients’ sexual problems need to be assessed more comprehensively, using more culturally sensitive items.

Objective: Even though bipolar patients achieve remission, they do not reach premorbid psychosocial functioning. Factors such as residual depressive symptoms and number of episodes may cause this effect. The impact of treatment modalities has not been adequately studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of treatment modalities on psychosocial functioning in remitted bipolar patients.Methods: The study was carried out with 108 patients diagnosed as having bipolar disorder. The objective of this study was to develop a new easy to use benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)-specific QoL scale that may guide the treatment policy in BPH. A total of 118 items addressing BPH-specific QoL were produced. After an elimination process, a 20-question scale was developed. This new scale, Short Form (SF)-36 and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), was then administered to 50 healthy men (control group), and 108 BPH patients who received medical or surgical treatment. Reliability assessment consisted of internal consistency evaluation by the Cronbach's alpha reliability test. In construct validity, factor analysis was performed using principal component analysis with Varimax rotation. Response to change of this new form was also evaluated. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of this scale was found to be 0.8464. Item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.3298 and 0.7886 (p < 0.0001). Factor analysis for construct validity revealed four factors. The correlation coefficients were found to be r = 0.801 (p < 0.0001) with the total IPSS, and this new QoL scale had a relatively sufficient correlation with all domains of the SF-36. Moreover, a QoL score obtained by the summation of individual grades of each item may provide valuable information just like total IPSS. The mean QoL score was 4.96 +/- A 9.58 and 20.28 +/- A 9.14 in controls and BPH patients, respectively (p < 0.0001). Moreover, QoL score significantly improved by both medical and surgical treatment. The new BPH-specific QoL was shown to be reliable and valid.

Researchers acknowledge individual differences about morality through concepts of temperament, character, personality, or values. The Nine Types of Temperament Model (NTTM), which explores human behaviors through individual differences, claims to explain the psychological organization of individuals through temperament, character, and personality concepts. This study investigates the relationship between morality, values, vices and individual differences in the context of temperament and proposes a method that discusses whether a temperament-based approach offers a new conceptualization, perspective, and approach to morality, as presented by NTTM. Firstly, this study examines the relationship between concepts of temperament, character, personality, values and morality. Subsequently, it suggests that temperament constitutes the primary root of virtues and vices and that temperament types offer society bipolar morality traits (positive and negative). Moreover, it suggests that traits that are accepted as virtues or vices could be embraced at two levels, a conceptual and individual one. The conceptual approach that this study proposes can be the main useful resource that explains the conditions of the approach, development, and methodology for being a moral person at an individual level.

Introduction Health anxiety is seen in the clinical presentation of both somatoform disorders, especially hypochondriasis and anxiety disorders. In this study, we aimed to perform the reliability and validity analyses of the Turkish version of the Health Anxiety Inventory which is used in the assessment of health anxiety. Method Translation and back-translation of the Health Anxiety Inventory was done. Study groups consisted of in- or out-patients with somatoform disorder (n=65), panic disorder (n=55), major depressive disorder (n=22), and healthy volunteers (n=114). In the assessment, beside the Health Anxiety Inventory, the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, Somatosensory Amplification Scale and the Trait Anxiety Inventory were used. Results In reliability analyses, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was 0.918 and item-total score correlation coefficients were between 0.405 and 0.769. Test-retest correlation coefficient was r=0.572. In construct validity, two factors that representing 54.5 percent of the total variance were obtained and they represented sensitivity to somatic symptoms and anxiety towards organic diseases. In concurrent validity, it had moderate to good correlation with the other study scales. In the comparison of study groups, the groups of somatoform disorder and anxiety disorder had significantly higher level of health anxiety than the groups with major depressive disorder and of healthy controls. Association of social anxiety with stigmatisation and low self-esteem in remitted bipolar patients.Background: In remitted bipolar disorder, it is aimed to show the association between social anxiety, self-esteem and stigmatisation.Methods: From two university clinics, a sample of 150 remitted bipolar patients was included in this study. Patients were assessed with Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and sense of stigmatisation subscale of Bipolar Disorder Functioning Questionnaire (Stigma) and were rated with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Young Mania Rating Scale for mood symptoms. Confirmatory path analysis was performed.Results: The mean age of the patients was 39.5, and 52.7% (n = 79) were female. Ninety per cent (n = 135) of the patients had bipolar I disorder. The mean duration of the illness was 13.4 years and the mean number of episodes was 7.8. The model was subjected to confirmatory path analysis and the goodness-of-fit index was calculated to be 0.909, the confirmatory fit index was found to be 0.902 and the root mean square error of approximation was 0.097. Self-esteem was negatively associated with stigmatisation (r = −0.746). Social anxiety was positively associated with self-esteem (r = 0.494). Social anxiety was negatively associated with stigmatisation (r = −0.381).Conclusions: In remitted bipolar patients, social anxiety is very high and this social anxiety seems to be caused by self-stigmatisation and low self-esteem.

In this present work, it is aimed to demonstrate BDNF serum concentrations in patients with dysthymia and to compare them with BDNF serum concentrations in patients with major depressive disorder and healthy subjects. The study was carried out in Celal Bayar University Hospital, Manisa, Turkey. Seventeen patients with dysthymia, 24 patients with major depressive disorder and 26 subjects without any psychiatric diagnosis and any psychiatric treatment were included in the study. The severity of depression was assessed with 17-item HAM-D. All subjects were asked to give their written consent. Blood samples were collected at baseline. Serum BDNF was kept at − 70 °C before testing, and assayed with an ELISA Kit (Promega; Madison, WI, USA), after dilution with the Block and Sample solution provided with the kit. The data were subjected to the analysis of variance. The BDNF serum concentrations of the dysthymia group (mean = 28.9 ± 9.2 ng/ml) were significantly higher than that of the major depressive disorder group (21.2 ± 11.3 ng/ml) ( p = 0.002), and it was not different from the level of the control group (31.4 ± 8.8 ng/ml). BDNF serum concentrations and HAM-D score did not have any significant correlation in the dysthymia and major depression groups ( r = − 0.276, p = 0.086). The low level of BDNF in patients with dysthymic disorder seems to point out that BDNF changes in mood disorders are state-dependent and vary according to the severity of depressive episodes.

Although many studies have examined the neurobiological aspects of suicide, the molecular mechanisms and pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with suicide remain unclear. In this study, it is aimed to investigate whether there is a difference in serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels among suicide attempters without a major psychiatric disorder, compared to major depressive disorder patients and healthy subjects. It was undertaken with the hypothesis that suicide per se lowers serum BDNF levels, since it is a source of stress. The study was carried out in Celal Bayar University Hospital, Manisa, Turkey. Ten suicide attempters, 24 patients with major depressive disorder and 26 subjects without any psychiatric diagnosis and any psychiatric treatment were included in the study. All subjects were asked to give their written consent. Blood samples were collected at the baseline. Serum BDNF was kept at –70°C before testing, and assayed with an ELISA kit (Promega; Madison, Wisc., USA) after dilution with the block and sample solution provided with the kit. The data were subjected to the Kruskal-Wallis test for nonparametric analysis of variance. Mean serum BDNF levels were significantly lower in the suicide group (21.2 ± 12.4 ng/ml) and the major depressive disorder group (21.2 ± 11.3 ng/ml) than the control group (31.4 ± 8.8 ng/ml; p = 0.004). These results suggest that BDNF may play an important role in the neurobiology of suicidal behavior. BDNF levels may be a biological marker for suicidal behavior. To investigate the role of BDNF in suicide, further studies with a wider sample size and a variety of psychiatric diagnoses accompanying suicide attempt are needed.

Sexual dysfunction in chronic diseases has recently attracted attention owing to its impact on quality of life (QoL). Allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC) affects QoL, causing limitations in many areas. However, there has not been research on changes in sexual function in patients with ARC.To report the effect of ARC and its treatment on sexual function in men and women.Forty-three sexually active patients with seasonal ARC aged 22 to 49 years were included in the study. The control group was composed of 40 healthy individuals aged 22 to 46 years. Conjunctival symptom scores (CSSs) and nasal symptom scores (NSSs) of patients with symptomatic ARC were determined, as were sexual function scores (SFSs) using the Female Sexual Function Index and the International Index of Erectile Function during allergen exposure in the pollination period and after treatment with oral desloratadine, 5 mg/d, for 30 days. The SFSs were evaluated in the control group.The CSSs and NSSs significantly improved in treated ARC (P.001). In women, Female Sexual Function Index results in symptomatic ARC were significantly lower than in treated ARC and controls (P = .003). In men, International Index of Erectile Function results in treated ARC (P = .001) and controls (P.001) were significantly higher than in symptomatic ARC. Furthermore, correlation between improvement in CSSs and NSSs and that of SFSs was determined (P = .007 for women; P = .001 for men).Improvement in sexual function as a variable of QoL may accompany the treatment of symptoms in patients with ARC.

Recent studies suggested a role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in depression. While BDNF levels are lower in depressed patients, antidepressant treatment increases serum BDNF levels of depressed patients. Our study aims to test the effect of chronic venlafaxine treatment on serum BDNF levels in patients with a major depressive disorder. Ten patients diagnosed as major depressive disorder according to DSM-IV are included in the study. Two of the patients had their first episode and were drug-naive, the other eight patients were drug-free for at least 4 weeks. The severity of depression was assessed with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). The control group consisted of ten age- and sex-matched subjects without any psychiatric disorder. Blood samples were collected at the baseline and after 12 weeks of antidepressant treatment (during remission). At the baseline the mean serum BDNF level was 17.9+/-9.1 ng/ml and the mean HDRS score was 23.2+/-4.6. Serum BDNF levels of the study group were significantly lower than in the control group (31.6+/-8.6 ng/ml). At the end of the study, the mean serum BDNF level was 34.6+/-7.1 ng/ml whereas the mean HDRS score was 8.2+/-3.9. From the baseline to the remission after 12 weeks of treatment, the increase in serum BDNF level and the decrease in HDRS score were statistically significant, respectively. When we compared the serum BDNF level of depressed patients at remission to that of the controls, there was no statistically significant difference. This study shows that venlafaxine treatment of depression improves serum BDNF level which may be considered as a nonspecific peripheral marker of depression.

Although there are many psychotherapy approaches today, it can be stated that a psychotherapy approach that is based on the temperament concept, which constitutes the structural basis of individual differences, does not exist. Even though the models focusing on explaining the temperament and the personality draw attention to the importance of these concepts in psychotherapy, these models did not formulate an important psychotherapy approach that places these concepts in its center. In fact, temperament is a key concept, which forms the smallest psychological building stone of individuals, determines the psychopathologic predispositions and the duration of experiencing of the psychopathology by an individual. Thus, temperament concept can be a focus point for the therapeutic approaches. In this study, we proposed the basic approaches and methods of individual temperament centered psychotherapy from the perspective of Nine Types Temperament Model that centers temperament concept. This can be an awarenessbased, non-eclectic, different, holistic and systematic psychotherapy approach which can enable the balancing of behaviors, emotions and ideas of an individual. At the same time, we tried to define a general course of actions for therapists to structure what kind of a therapeutic approach they will apply, which can be considered as a starting point to form a psychotherapy model that considers the human being in a holistic way from normal to psychopathology and focuses on causality.

Researchers which aimed to understand human behaviours have propounded many opinions about temperament and personality. Some of them centralize temperament while others centralize personality in their studies. They defined temperament and personality in many ways and tried to explain similar and different features of these concepts. The disagreement of the researchers on the definitions of temperament and personality concepts caused confusion in explaining the relations between these concepts. Besides, this confusion brings along the question “which one is the changeable and unchangeable part of the human behaviours, temperament or personality?� Nine Types Temperament Model (NTTM) is new model that considers human behaviour with a temperament based approach, claims to formulate a holistic model to the definitions, boundaries, scopes, interrelations of temperament, character and personality. The aim of this study is to explain the relation of personality with temperament and to propose an approach which conceptualizes the personality’s unchangeable -originating from the temperament- and changeable facets from the NTTM perspective, which can be a conceptual base for future empirical studies. In this study; first we explained the definitions and the relations of temperament, character and personality propounded by NTTM based on the current literature. Second we proposed “natural personality� concept in order to explain unchangeable features that originate from the individual’s temperament type. Also we proposed “synthetic personality� concept in order to explain the traits that do not exist in the temperament type of the individual and are acquired after birth through parents, school and social transference. In conclusion, in this study we tried to offer a new perspective to the researchers for understanding the nature of temperament -character- personality concepts and the link between them. Additionally, we propounded the concepts of natural and synthetic personality that will be able to answer the questions about changeable and unchangeable facets of personality.

Objective: Recent studies in patients with Bipolar Disorder (BD) have revealed problems in emotion recognition, specifically for negative emotions, which have been subsequently related to amygdala activity. Previously, the prosocial neuropeptide oxytocin has been shown to be one hormone that alters emotion perception capacities and modulates amygdala response. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to see if plasma oxytocin levels have specific effects on predicting emotion recognition patterns in BD. Methods: Twenty-eight remitted BD patients were recruited for this study and the Vienna Emotion Recognition Task was given. In addition, blood samples were collected for plasma oxytocin analysis. Results: Strong associations were found between fearful emotions and basal oxytocin levels, which were supported by a stepwise regression analysis. Patients with higher levels of basal oxytocin also exhibited greater recognition of fearful emotions. Conclusions: The relationship between recognition of fearful faces and individual endogenous oxytocin levels may contribute to explaining individual differences in social functioning and amygdala dysfunction in BD.

Our objective was to determine symptomatology of depression and anxiety in patients with untreated hyperthyroidism and compare with euthyroid patients.Thirty-two patients with hyperthyroidism (high free T3 and free T4, and suppressed TSH) and 30 euthyroid (normal free T3, free T4, and TSH) controls attending the Endocrinology Out-Patient Department at Celal Bayar University Hospital in Manisa, Turkey were included in the study. Hormonal screening was performed by immunoassay and hemagglutination method. For psychiatric assessment, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HAD], Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAM-D], and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale [HAM-A] were used. There was no difference between the two groups in terms of demographic features.Total scores obtained both from HAM-D and HAM-A were significantly greater in the hyperthyroidism group than that of the euthyroid group (p0.05); there was no difference in terms of HAD. When compared in terms of symptomatology, early insomnia (HAM-D#6), work and activities (HAM-D#7), psychic anxiety (HAM-D#10), weight loss (HAM-D#16), insomnia (HAM-A#4), and cardiovascular symptoms (HAM-A#8) were significantly more frequent in the hyperthyroidism group. By Wilks lambda discriminant analysis, psychomotor agitation (HAM-D#9), weight loss (HAM-D#16), and insomnia (HAM-A#4) were found as the discriminating symptoms for the hyperthyroidism group, whereas somatic anxiety (HAM-A#11) and loss of interest (HAD#14) were distinguishing symptoms of the euthyroidism group.Hyperthyroidism and syndromal depression-anxiety have overlapping features that can cause misdiagnosis during acute phase. For differential diagnosis, one should follow-up patients with hyperthyroidism with specific hormonal treatment and evaluate persisting symptoms thereafter. In addition to specific symptoms of hyperthyroidism, psychomotor retardation, guilt, muscle pain, energy loss, and fatigue seem to appear more frequently in patients with comorbid depression and hyperthyroidism; thus, presence of these symptoms should be a warning sign to nonpsychiatric professionals for the need for psychiatric consultation.

Aim Panic disorder is one of the highly heritable anxiety disorders; and temperament characteristics are considered predicting liability to panic disorder. Accumulating evidence suggests temperament characteristics are intermediate phenotypes for clinical conditions. Given this background, we aimed to investigate temperament characteristics in patients with panic disorder, their first-degree relatives, and healthy controls. Method Study sample was consisted 60 patients with panic disorder, 37 first-degree relatives of these patients, and 37 age, gender, and education level matched healthy controls (HC). SCID-I, the Panic Agoraphobia Scale, and the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory were applied to assess clinical characteristics of the patient group. Temperament characteristics were assessed using the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, San Diego Autoquestionnaire (TEMPS-A). Results Anxious, depressive, cyclothymic, and irritable temperament scores of patients were higher than those of HC. There was no difference between the patients and the relatives, with the exception of higher anxious temperament scores in patients. Conclusion Overall, our findings suggest that anxious temperament characteristic might be a trait marker for liability to panic disorder. Further research with a prospective design in a larger sample is required to confirm our findings.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is seen frequently in childhood and leads to marked impairment in functioning. There is no scale in Turkey with documented validity and reliability that assesses ADHD-specific functional impairment (FI). This study aimed at adapting the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale-Parent Report (WFIRS-P), which assesses ADHD-related FI, for use in Turkey, and examining psychometric aspects of the scale. The study included 250 children diagnosed with ADHD and 250 healthy children and their parents. Internal consistency and test–retest methods were used to test the reliability of the scale. Validity was tested with exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and convergent and discriminant validity analyses. Since all six questions of the WFIRS-P were scored 0, analyses were conducted for the original scale questionnaire consisting of 50 items and the questionnaire consisting of 44 items where the six questions scored 0 were not included. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.93 for the whole scale. The Spearman’s correlation coefficient was 0.93 for test–retest reliability. The exploratory factor analysis run on the 44-item questionnaire showed that the scale items were best represented in a 7-factor structure, but some items were placed in different subdomains than those of the original scale. In the confirmatory factor analysis, the root mean square error of approximation was 0.061, and the comparative fit index was 0.95 for the whole model. Therefore, the Turkish WFIRS-P is valid and reliable in testing functional impairment in children with ADHD.

Introduction: The importance of the evaluation of health status in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is recently highlighted in many studies. In this study, we aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of St. George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in seven centers in Turkey. Three hundred and twenty one COPD patients (40-75 years) were included to the study. Turkish versions of breathlessness, Cough, and Sputum Scale (BCSS), mMRC (Modified Medical Research Council) dyspnea scale, SGRQ, COPD assessment test (CAT) and Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) were carried out to the patients. The statistical analysis of SGRQ was performed by using the coefficient of internal consistency, discriminative analysis for different stages and the correlation with the other scales. Results: The mean age was 62.4 ± 8.9 years and the mean FEV 1 was 51.9 ± 19.2% pred. The coefficient of internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) was 0.8815. The correlation between the total score measured initially and that obtained two weeks later was found to be highly significant (r= 0.90, p< 0.0001). According the results of validation of both total score and the components of SGRQ, the correlation between the total score of SGRQ and CAT was 0.782 (p< 0.0001), SGRQ and SF36 was between -0.481 ile -0.819 (p< 0.0001). The total and component scores were able to discriminate different disease stages and a significant correlation was found to be with pulmonary function tests. Conclusion: SGRQ Turkish version is a reliable and valid assessment tool for COPD patients in clinical practice.

This study examined the factor structure of the Turkish version of the scale using high-level statistical analyses. Methods: The SWNS was translated into Turkish and applied to 103 schizophrenic patients. A type of multi-trait-multi-method (MTMM) confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to determine the factor structure of the Turkish version of the scale. Results: The results of factor analysis of the SWNS were incompatible with the factor structure of the original scale. A set of MTMM analyses showed distinct method effects for both positive and negative item wording in the scale. In light of these findings, the factor structure of the SWNS was determined as having a one-dimensional structure, with bias due to item wording. Conclusions: The results of the present investigation indicated that the sub-factors of the SWNS failed to emerge from the data. This study is the first to show that there is an urgent need for further examination of the factor structure of the SWNS with regard to method effects. This issue has important implications for the use of sub-factors by both researchers and practitioners.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish form of the Clinician Rated Severity of Autism Spectrum and Social Communication Disorders Scale. The scale was originally developed to measure the severity of autism spectrum and social communication disorders regarding the DSM-5 criteria. Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Psychiatry at Celal Bayar University Hospital. The participants were in- or out-patients diagnosed with any psychotic disorders according to DSM-5. The exclusion criteria were comorbidity of other psychiatric disorders and/or physical diseases. The study was carried out with a total of 49 patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia (n=40), schizoaffective disorder (n=3), and not otherwise specified psychotic disorder (n=3). One hundred and one volunteers without any mental or physical disease were also included to represent the healthy control. Reliability analysis was performed to examine the internal consistency of the Turkish version of the scale. Additionally, item-total correlations were reported. In validity analyses, compari-son of the total score of the scale in the patient and control groups was evaluated for the discriminative validity. ROC analysis was also performed. Results: 52.7% of the sample were male (n=79). 69.3% of them were graduated from university (n=104), 19.3% from high school (n=29), and 8% from elementary school (n=12). The mean age of the study group was 26.3±10.3 years. Disease duration of psychotic disorder group was 18,29±6.43 years. The internal consistency of the Autism Spectrum and Social Communication Disorder Scale was 0.81. Furthermore, item-total correlations revealed that all items in the scale contributed to the consistency of scores with item-total correlations approaching 0.70. The mean score of the scale in the patient group on the scale was 1.42 whereas the mean score of the healthy group was 0.0. The t-test analysis indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the sample group and the healthy group in their scores on the scale. In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve was 0.84. Conclusion: Results demonstrated that the Turkish version of Autism Spectrum and Social Communication Disorder Scale was a valid and reliable instrument which may serve as useful in guiding future research that aims to understand autism spectrum and social communication disorder.

Objective: This study aims to demonstrate the reliability and validity of the Turkish Form of Level 2 Anxiety Scale developed according to DSM-5 criteria to measure the severity of panic disorder. Methods: This study was carried out with patients with a diagnosis of any anxiety disorder according to DSM-5 criteria who are under treatment in Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine Psychiatry inpatient or outpatient clinics. Patients with any mental or physical disease except for anxiety disorders were excluded. Accordingly, 54 patients with anxiety disorder were included in the study and these were distributed as panic disorder in seven patients, generalized anxiety disorder in two patients, agoraphobia in three patients, specific phobia in one patient, obsessive-compulsive disorder in two patients, somatization disorder in one patient and not otherwise specified anxiety disorder in 38 patients. As the healthy control group in 104 volunteers without any mental or physical disease were included. Beside Level 2 Anxi-ety Scale the most widely used self-rated scale, Spielberger’s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was used for concurrent validity. In reliability analysis internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlation analysis; in validity analyses factor analysis and correlation analysis with the Spearman Correlation Analysis (SCA) was performed for validation. Results: The mean age of the study group was 28.23±11.7 years and 58.9% of the sample group (n=93) were fe-male. 64.6% of the group were college graduates, 19.0% primary school graduates, 12.7% is also high school gra-duates. Disease duration of anxiety disorder group was 17.2±11.2 years. The internal consistency of the Level 2 Anxiety Scale was 0.94 and, item-total correlation coefficients of the Level 2 Anxiety Scale were between 0.68 and 0.88. In the exploratory factor analysis, for sample adequacy Kaiser- Meier-Olkin (KMO) coefficient was calculated as 0.90 and Bartlett coefficient was 1.08. Single-factor solution was obtained and the eigenvalue was 5.26, ex-plaining 75.2% of the total variance. Factor loadings of the items were between 0.75 and 0.92. Coefficient of corre-lation analysis with SCA was calculated as r=0.45. Conclusion: These findings have been shown that the Level 2 Anxiety Scale is reliable and valid for Turkish.

Objective: This study aims to demonstrate the reliability and validity of Turkish version of DSM-5 Depression Scale which was developed to measure the severity of depression. Methods: The study group included 50 in- or out-patients who met the criteria for major depressive disorder according to DSM-5. Sixty-three healthy volunteers without any mental or physical disease were also recruited as a control group. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which is the most widely used self-report scale, was used for concurrent validity. Internal consistency coefficient Cronbach alfa and item-total correlation analysis were performed for reliability. Exploratory factor analysis was used for vali-dity, as BDI was used for concurrent validity. Results: Mean age was 39.2±11.3 and 22.4±5.8 years in the patient and control group, respectively. Sixty-one percent of the sample group (n=66) were female. 64.8% of the group were college graduates, 19% were primary school graduates and 18.5% were high school graduates. Disease dura-tion for major depressive disorder was 3.3±5.6 years for the patient group. For the internal consistency Cronbach alfa coefficient of the DSM-5 Depression Scale was 0.91. Item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.60-0.83. For the exploratory factor analysis of sample adequacy of DSM-5 Depression Scale, Kaiser-Meier-Olkin (KMO) coefficient and Bartlett coefficient was calculated as 0.91 and 608.18, respectively. Single-factor solution was obtained with an eigenvalue of 5.44, representing 60.4% of the variance. Factor loadings of the items were between 0.66-0.80. Correlation coefficient of DSM-5 Depression Scale with BDI was found as r=0.88. Conclusion: The Turkish version of DSM-5 Depression Scale is reliable and valid.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish Form of Level 2 Anger Scale. The scale was originally developed to measure the severity of anger regarding the DSM-5 criteria. Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Psychiatry in Celal Bayar University Hospital. The participants were in- or out-patients diagnosed with any psychotic disorders according to the DSM-5. The exclusion criteria were comorbidity of other psychiatric disorders and/or physical diseases. The participants were 49 patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia (n=40), schizoaffective disorder (n=3), and not otherwise specified psychotic disorder (n=6). One hundred and one volunteers without any mental or physical disease were also included to represent the healthy control. In the assesment beside Level 2 Anger Scale, 18-item Brief Psychi-atric Rating Scale was used. In reliability analysis internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlation analysis were performed; for validity analysis exploratory factor analysis was performed. In concurrent validity correlation analyses between Level 2 Anger Scale and BPRS tension, hostility, uncooperativeness, and elated mood subscales were computed. In order to discriminate between the psychosis and the control group, group means of Anger Scale were compared with t-test. Results: The mean age of the study group was 26.0±10.3 and 52.7% of the sample group were female (n=79). 69.3% of them were graduated from university (n=104), 19.3% from high school (n=29), and 8% from elementary school. Disease duration of psychotic disorder group was 17.1±9.7 years. The internal consistency of the Level 2 Anger Scale was 0.91 and, item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.74-0.83. For the exploratory factor analysis of sample adequacy of Level 2 Anger Scale Kaiser-Meðer-Olkin (KMO) coef-ficients 0.81 and Bartlett coefficient 1.03 was found. Single-factor solution was obtained and the eigenvalue is 3.79, representing 75.80 % of the total variance. Factor loadings of the items of the scale were between 0.83-0.90.The mean of score was 5.09±0.72 in the psychosis group while it was calculated as 3.65±0.36 in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups. There were moderate to high correlations be-tween Level 2 Anger Scale and BPRS tension, hostility, uncooperativeness, and elated mood. Conclusion: Results demonstrated that the Turkish version of Level 2 Anger Scale is a valid and reliable.
