In May 2014, Latin America was the stage for the 13th International Public Communication of Science and Technology Conference (PCST 2014). It was the first time that this important international conference had reached the region since its launch in 1989, and it provides a good opportunity to discuss science communication in Latin America. The region is huge and extraordinarily diverse. As such, this article is only the starting point of a conversation on the subject: here the author presents an overview of the field in the region, highlighting some of the landmarks and discussing some challenges faced.

The paper first addresses the educational policies dictated at the international and national levels to deal with the health emergency caused by COVID-19. The main objective of these policies has been not to stop the teaching-learning processes, moving from face-to-face and blended modalities to an online modality, trying not to neglect aspects such as educational quality. Afterwards, those dictated and implemented by the University Network of the University of Guadalajara (U. de G.) are analyzed. Then, the reality faced by the professors of the Centro Universitario del Norte (CUNorte) to continue their teaching work is described. Finally, the challenges in the short, medium and long term, related to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), such as the lack of training in digital platforms and tools, computer equipment for work, obsolescence of the same and problems of Internet connectivity, among others.

Physical environments that are perceivable and readable help the users to reach their destinations without getting lost on the one hand and cause them to internalize the environments in which they reside and to identify themselves with the environments on the other. This study discusses the notion of “readability” of the campus settlements that have multifunctionality, open and closed areas, etc. The study employed Lynch’s mind mapping method, and the Kanuni Campus of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) was chosen as the pilot area and its readability was investigated. The study consists of three sections. The first section is a literature review on readability, image, mind maps, and Lynch’s image elements. In the second section of the study, the maps drawn by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students of the Department of Architecture were transformed into a separate mind map for each class. The third section presents the analyses. The study exposed the similarities and differences in the mind maps of the students in different classes. Based on the results The readability of a campus is an important design problem in campus design. While doing this, the designer should organize the image elements that create a strong image effect in everyone.

activities (R&D) carried out by the central libraries (CL) of the subjects of the Russian Federation. The author carried out the study basing on the questionnaire survey conducted by the National Library of Russia on the assignment of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in accordance with the decision of the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Federal and Central Regional Libraries of Russia in 2020. Central libraries, in accordance with their functions and priority goals, are the basis of the country’s library system. Their role as scientific, methodological and coordinating centres of the library system of the region is established at the level of federal and regional library legislation. The questionnaire survey revealed that most libraries have regulatory and legal grounds for conducting R&D. Employees of the central libraries are actively engaged in scientific-research work on a wide range of topics. At the same time, there should be distinguished two main areas of scientific activity of the central libraries: scientific support for the activities of libraries and historical and cultural research of regional nature based on library collections. Along with that, it is necessary to develop common approaches to solving organizational issues of R&D and its support from methodological centres and management bodies. One of the problems is to bring the results of scientific work to a wide range of users. The paper notes that it is expedient to do this by including electronic copies of scientific publications of the central libraries in the section “To Library Professionals” of the National Electronic Library; by compliance with the federal legislation in the area of legal deposit and legal deposit of printed publications in electronic form; by including scientific publications of the central libraries in the system of the Russian Scientific Citation Index with placement in the Scientific Electronic Library (eLibrary). The use of the scientific potential of the central libraries is a significant condition for achieving the goals set out in the “Strategy for the Development of Librarianship in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030”.

Even European leaders of supranational level have to speak, communicate and pass E.U. legislation in English. That is why teaching and studying world finance in English is given a high priority in many countries. Russia is no exception to the rule and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (the University of Finance). This book attempts to outlay the theoretical and practical foundation for the world finance. It contains basic world finance terminology.

The publishing business in post-Soviet Russia differs a lot from that of the Soviet period. The number of books and brochures has significantly increased, though the circulations have drastically decreased, which is evidenced by the national press statistics without interpreting indicators related to the subject. After USSR’s collapsed, many complete and reliable resources have appeared to study librarianship publishing repertoire in various aspects, e. g.: target readership of publications, their target audience, publishing chronology, main publishers; circulations. With these criteria, expert assessment of key publishing repertoire components is made. The Russian Book Chamber databases based on acquired mandatory copies of publications, as well as Rosinforkultura, Institute of scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, largest library catalogs and several bibliographic catalogs and indexes on the subject under examination, make the main source of statistical and bibliographic information for the authors. The authors identify the main problems and trends in librarianship publishing so to change situation to the better. The authors also focus on publication identification elements, i. e. their imprint.

Publishing is increasingly being challenged through instantaneous social media publish- ing, even in the fields of scholarship and cultural, philosophical and political debate. Memetic self-publishers, such as the right-wing 'YouTube intellectual' Jordan Peterson and his left-wing counterpart Natalie Wynn, seem to tap into urgent needs that traditional publishing fails to identify and address. Does their practice amount to a new form of urgent publishing? How is it different from non-urgent publishing on the one hand and from propaganda on the other? Which urgencies can be addressed by urgent publishing? What is the role of artists and designers in it?

Digital libraries in the XXI century have become the most important sources of information in all branches of science and technology, the main direction of development of world librarianship, any information activities. The first electronic library was Project Gutenberg, founded by Michael Hart exactly 50 years ago. It became world famous only in the 90s, after the appearance of Internet and the first browsers. Hart dreamed of 10,000 digitized books, and by his admission, he achieved all the goals that he set for himself. In Russia, one of the first and most significant is Maxim Moshkov’s library (1994). This paper traces the stages of creation of these libraries and the biographies of their creators; the difficulties in their work are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the issues of copyright duration legislation.

In the world and Brazil, the high rate of dropout in educational scenarios persists. The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the problem furthermore. In this article, an excerpt of research, we aimed to map and analyze the scientific production of Brazilian graduate studies on truancy at the Federal Institutes of Education, Science, and Technology. The study is of qualitative approach, exploratory and bibliographic, of the State of the Art type. We established the time frame from 2010 to 2020. We collected data at the sites of the Sucupira Platform, in the Catalogue of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), and at the Observatory of the Professional Master's Degree in Professional Education in National Network Education (ProfEPT). We could find 37 papers, 33 dissertations, and 04 theses. For analysis, we used the Content Analysis Technique. Results showed that there are still few studies dedicated to investigating the phenomenon of dropout in Federal Institute, and there is no unanimity on the part of scholars regarding the definition of the term. Results of studies on dropouts in subsequent courses indicate that the complexity of the problem that hinders its resolution comes from factorial diversity. Given the pandemic picture, State of the Art on the screen will contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of truancy, knowing its panorama in the universe of academic works.

One of the biggest challenges for educational institutions is dealing with school dropout, which restricts the full right of citizens to education. In this context, this article aims to map studies carried out in the area of dropout and persistence in High school integrated to vocational education, from 2011 to 2020, which present causes of school dropout and proposed actions for student persistence. The theoretical subsidy features contributions from Temp and Coutinho (2020), Dore and Luscher(2011), Veiga and Bergiante(2016), Marques et al.(2019) and Libâneo (2013). The methodology used is the Systematic Literature Mapping (MSL), which allows a bibliographical review in an organized and systemic way, carried out in the databases of CAPES Periodicals and Academic Google. As a result, 11 (eleven) works were found, enabling the organization of a table with information that will support the development of the educational product to be presented in the Master's Degree in Professional and Technological Education - ProfEPT.

Acta Radiologica celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2021. In this article, the foundation of the journal and its editors are described. During 100 years, the manuscript structure changed from single-author verbose monographs to multi-author collaborations on statistically analyzed research subjects. The authorship changed from purely Nordic authors to a truly international cadre of authors, and the size of the journal increased considerably, in issues per year, printed pages, and published articles per year. The Foundation of Acta Radiologica has been able to give out two prizes, the Xenia Forsselliana and the Acta Radiologica International Scientific Prize for the best manuscripts each year. The increasing submissions of manuscripts is an indication that Acta Radiologica will continue to publish important scientific results for many years to come.

Retraction is a mechanism for eliminating and correcting serious problems in the scientific literature and increasing awareness among members of the scientific community about unreliable literature. The objectives of this study were to identify the characteristics and reasons for retraction, analyze citations, and describe the scientific, altmetrics, and technological impacts of hematology retracted papers. Retracted papers were searched using the hematology category of the Web of Science database. The search yielded 101 retracted papers in WoS. Statistics methods such as frequency, mean, interquartile range (IQR), and Pearson's Correlation were used for data analysis. The findings showed the retracted papers were published in 28 different hematology journals. The majority of retracted documents were in Article type (n = 81). The mean time interval of the retracted papers from the first publication to retraction was 50.83 months. The largest number of retracted papers belonged to the United States (n = 46). The most frequently reported reason for retraction was misconduct (n = 55). The findings of this study provide a landscape into the characteristics and citations of retracted papers before and after retraction in addition to the scientific, technological, and altmetrics impacts of hematology retracted papers in the scientific community.
