Contribution: Determine and analyze the gap between software practitioners' education outlined in the 2014IEEE/ACM Software Engineering Education Knowledge (SEEK) and industrial needs pointed by Wikipedia articles referenced in Stack Overflow (SO) posts. Background: Previous work has uncovered deficiencies in the coverage of computer fundamentals, people skills, software processes, and human-computer interaction, suggesting rebalancing. Research Questions: 1) To what extent are developers' needs, in terms of Wikipedia articles referenced in SO posts, covered by the SEEK knowledge units? 2) How does the popularity of Wikipedia articles relate to their SEEK coverage? 3) What areas of computing knowledge can be better covered by the SEEK knowledge units? 4) Why are Wikipedia articles covered by the SEEK knowledge units cited on SO? Methodology: Wikipedia articles were systematically collected from SO posts. The most cited were manually mapped to the SEEK knowledge units, assessed according to their degree of coverage. Articles insufficiently covered by the SEEK were classified by hand using the 2012 ACM Computing Classification System. A sample of posts referencing sufficiently covered articles was manually analyzed. A survey was conducted on software practitioners to validate the study findings. Findings: SEEK appears to cover sufficiently computer science fundamentals, software design and mathematical concepts, but less so areas like the World Wide Web, software engineering components, and computer graphics. Developers seek advice, best practices and explanations about software topics, and code review assistance. Using distributed hydrological models to evaluate the effectiveness of reducing non-point source pollution by applying best management practices (BMPs) is an important support to decision making for watershed management. However, complex interfaces and time-consuming simulations of the models have largely hindered the applications of these models. We designed and developed a prototype web-based decision support system for watershed management (DSS-WMRJ), which is user friendly and supports quasi-real-time decision making. DSS-WMRJ is based on integrating an open-source Web-based Geographical Information Systems (Web GIS) tool (Geoserver), a modeling component (SWAT, Soil and Water Assessment Tool), a cloud computing platform (Hadoop) and other open source components and libraries. In addition, a private cloud is used in an innovative manner to parallelize model simulations, which are time consuming and computationally costly. Then, the prototype DSS-WMRJ was tested with a case study. Successful implementation and testing of the prototype DSS-WMRJ lay a good foundation to develop DSS-WMRJ into a fully-fledged tool for watershed management. DSS-WMRJ can be easily customized for use in other watersheds and is valuable for constructing other environmental decision support systems, because of its performance, flexibility, scalability and economy.

Project management software packages are increasingly used by companies. These tools require a substantial financial investment, hence the importance of identifying the real contribution of project management software packages to the realization of projects. However, studies on the impacts of software packages on the performance of engineering project management are rare and mostly based on perceptions. The objective of this study is to investigate, from real project data, the level of utilization of a project management software package, developed by an engineering construction firm recognized internationally, and its link with project performance and project characteristics. Results stemming from non-parametric tests and correlation analyses show that the level of use of the software, and some of its subsystems, appears to be linked to project performance. Project duration also seems to be the most critical project characteristic.

Currently, specialists who use the skills of drawing, drawing, modeling and modeling in their work have largely begun to use the capabilities of computer technology and software. Working with digital models and three-dimensional modeling technologies are also within the competence of an industrial designer. This article att empts to make a selection of computer programs that are used in their work by industrial designers and classify the capabilities of this software according to its functional purpose. It is obvious that all the technologies of three-dimensional modeling listed in the article are very important for specialists engaged in technical aesthetics, artistic design, visualization, prototyping and prototyping of things.

Software technical debt (TD) is a relevant software engineering problem. Only if properly managed can TD provide benefits while avoiding risks. Current TD management (TDM) support is limited. Recent advances in software engineering (SE) and data science (DS) promote data-driven TDM. In this paper, we summarize experiences concerning data-driven TDM gained in several research projects with industry. We report challenges and their consequences, propose solutions, and sketch improvement directions.

Traditional project management applications are appeared working separately of their participating project teams and isolating the input of each team to both geometry and non-geometry of the project. With the introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry expected it would be a panacea as a tool to effectively collaborate project teams and to efficiently share geometry and non-geometry data relevant to not only design and construction but also covering the whole life-cycle of the project. All these BIM functions are relied on its automation capability; in other words, BIM vision totally discourages manual processing of data. As a result, good interoperability practice needs to pass data automatically between applications of different project teams. Many international associations are working in search of full interoperability among BIM players of the project; however, the goal is yet to succeed. The current study identifies the impact due to poor interoperability between applications and takes considerable effort to minimise or eliminate if possible. Software Interoperability Matrix (SIM) is the proposed solution delivering the outcome. Action research is the methodology adopted to develop SIM, in which researchers and professionals actively participated. Major industry contribution of SIM is to realise interoperability issues between BIM players prior to the project and upon identification, precautionary measures can be taken introducing new plug-ins or completely switching to new compatible application if it is the only solution.

Often this leads either to the introduction of excessive (which leads to a worsening of the economic situation) or insufficient measures (which leads to a worsening of the epidemiological situation). This article describes the mathematical basic principles aimed at creating a software package for assessing the likelihood of contracting a viral infection transmitted by airborne droplets in massively occupied buildings. Evaluation of the likelihood of COVID-19 infection in public places is possible based on a joint analysis of the results of the people movement simulation, air circulation and the spread of aerosols from a carrier of the infection, taking into account the applied methods of protection (masks, ventilation). It is required to develop methods for assessing the danger of COVID-19 infection from a carrier of the virus and the methods of protection used (masks, ventilation) in specific public places. Simultaneously, the movement of people in accordance with the mode of operation, air movement (including ventilation systems) and the spread of respiratory aerosols needs to be accounted for

Науковці, які займаються питаннями надання медичної допомоги пацієнтам із захворюваннями кістково-м’язової системи, постійно проводять пошук та дослідження ефективності різних методів діагностики, лікування та профілактики остеопорозу та його ускладнень. Актуальним є скринінг пацієнтів старших вікових груп з метою виявлення факторів ризику остеопорозу, раннього виявлення змін якості кісткової тканини, прогнозування ускладнень.

Development of the designing process in civil engineering brings the possibility for more complex analysis of the structures. Computational software can be helpful for regular design but also for identification and solving of more specified problems. Finite Element Method (FEM) became one of the most used numerical methods. Numerous commercial programs are based on this method. However, these programs are more complex and require skilled designer to fully utilize their potential. This article brings the lead to apply the FEM method implemented in commercial software ADINA to solve the problem of structural mechanics. It is necessary to connect the theoretical approach of FEM modeling and experience from real case problems. Skilled designer can calibrate the numerical model to obtain relevant outputs. However, certain cases still require a detailed and individual approach during designing that is verified by the in-situ monitoring and observation. Lead of the student to the flexible treatment of the design is one of the important tasks of the educational process. This involves the basic knowledge about appropriate analysis of the problem for effective utilization of the computational software for particular applications even for more complex solutions.

In this IT era, where there is a race of software development, it is necessary to introduce such types of software development techniques which will help the practitioners to deliver fast solutions. In the past, various traditional approaches were used for this purpose, but now agile techniques are getting more popular because conventional software development approaches are not efficient in managing the changing requirements. The agile software development process is one of the most emerging lightweight software development methodologies, which uses iterative and prototype development approaches to accommodate changes in software requirements. Final software products are delivered to the end-users in short iterations. One of the most noticeable drawbacks of agile methods is their limited courtesy to the structured and architectural design of the system. Hence this development approach will restrict small to medium design decisions only. In this paper, we have performed the analysis of different agile techniques, which will help the readers to understand their positive and negative points and select the most appropriate technique suited to their projects.

Objectives The following report describes the development and implementation of a small-lab automation solution for small hospitals. Methods It uses a new generation of collaborative robots instead of the traditional laboratory automation lines with their input and output units and connected analyzers. After the Proof of Concept during fall 2018, both a centrifuge and several routine analyzers were integrated. Results The run-up phase ended after successful test operations in continuous mode in 2019. Routine operations were launched in October 2020 in a MVZ routine lab after a delay caused by the pandemic. Conclusions Apart from the direct cost savings for night duty or compensation for the lack of personnel, the mentioned solution delivers a significant upgrading of the laboratory technicians’ activities and an improvement in their working conditions.

A Benchmark of railway multibody dynamics software application to switches and crossings (S&C) is presented, comparing all major commercially available software and a few independent codes. Two different representative S&C have been implemented, using the Manchester Benchmark passenger vehicle. The final results show that all software offer a reliable and efficient way to understand the kinematic and dynamics forces between the wheels and the track elements. The highest challenges are found when modelling a combination of multiple rails in simultaneous contact with a wheel (check-stock or switch-stock), large longitudinal variations in rail shape (crossings) and high lateral steering forces (diverging cases in tight radius). In those cases, the codes able to account for the exact relative motion of each wheels with respect to each rails independently are the most apt. The most significant variations between software are found in the contact prediction with an influence on the detailed contact tangential and normal forces. The user variability is found to be very small, with the most time-consuming and error prone being the task of handling the input data for the variable rails definition. All software could benefit from improvements to assist the user and ensure higher reliability and efficiency generally.

With the advancing digitisation of society and industry we observe a progressing blending of computational, physical, and social processes. The trustworthiness and sustainability of these systems will be vital for our society. However, engineering modern computing systems is complex as they have to: i) operate in uncertain and continuously changing environments, ii) deal with huge amounts of data, and iii) require seamless interaction with human operators. To that end, we argue that both systems and the way we engineer them must become smarter. With smarter we mean that systems and engineering processes adapt and evolve themselves through a perpetual process that continuously improves their capabilities and utility to deal with the uncertainties and amounts of data they face. We highlight key engineering areas: cyber-physical systems, self-adaptation, data-driven technologies, and visual analytics, and outline key challenges in each of them. From this, we propose a research agenda for the years to come.

Although not widely acknowledged, the Republic of North Macedonia boasts a number of prolific architects who were often engaged in architectural education. Jovan Stefanovski, the author of the Millennium Cross and the National Theatre, both in the capital Skopje, is one such personality. Similar to former generations of architects, his design style conceptually recalls the traditional architecture of his homeland. Researching the Jovan Stefanovski Archive, a number of projects were identified – a sample from the case-studies covered in his doctorate thesis – and discussed with respect to the themes of ‘idea’ and ‘realisation’ in architecture. His notion of the former is akin to ‘concept’ as used in architectural design. While an idea is an expression of the unconscious, realisation is the conscious decision to execute the design idea. Stefanovski was a prolific architect and educator. His interest in traditional architecture was in line with the trends which developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Furthermore, in line with the architectural approaches being developed by Stefanovski’s teachers, the regionalist idiom which emerged in Macedonia, is contemporaneously evident in his work both in form and function., Deși nu toată lumea acceptă acest lucru, Republica Macedonia de Nord se poate mândri cu numeroși arhitecți prolifici, implicați adesea în educația în domeniul arhitecturii. Jovan Stefanovski, autorul Crucii Mileniului și al Teatrului Național (ambele în capitala ţării Skopje) este un exemplu de astfel de personalitate. Asemănător fostelor generații de arhitecți, stilul său de proiectare amintește din punct de vedere conceptual arhitectura tradițională a țării sale. Cercetând arhiva lui Jovan Stefanovski, a fost identificată o serie de proiecte - eșantion de studii de caz incluse în teza lui de doctorat și discutate în legătură cu tema „ideii” și „realizării” în arhitectură. Conceptul atribuit de el „ideii” este similar „conceptului” utilizat în proiectarea arhitecturală. Dacă ideea este expresia inconștientului, realizarea reprezintă o decizie conștientă de a implementa ideea proiectului. Stefanovski s-a afirmat ca un arhitect și profesor prolific. Interesul său pentru arhitectura tradițională a corespuns cu tendințele care s-au dezvoltat la sfârșitul anilor 1960 și începutul anilor 1970. Astfel, în concordanță cu abordările arhitecturale dezvoltate de învățătorii lui Stefanovski, idiomul regionalist care a apărut în Macedonia, se manifestă în lucrările lui atât prin formă, cât și prin funcțiune., peer-reviewed

O presente artigo difunde alguns dos resultados de uma investigação de doutorado com foco na Engenharia de Software Educativo. Discutimos no recorte aqui veiculado, os resultados da análise da engenharia do software Modellus e como esta contribuiu para (re)pensar os métodos e técnicas da Engenharia Didático-Informática. Assim, a pesquisa aqui apresentada está inserida na problemática de metodologias de desenvolvimento de software educativo bem como nas formas de construção de tecnologias digitais que auxiliem, efetivamente, as atividades de ensinar e aprender. Os procedimentos metodológicos foram iniciados com um levantamento bibliográfico a fim de atualizar os referenciais e posteriormente a construção de uma entrevista para obter informações precisas sobre a construção do software Modellus. Os resultados deste estudo indicam que: 1. É possível classificar a engenharia a qual o Modellus foi submetido como "Didático-Informática" e 2. a Engenharia Didático-Informática se configura como uma metodologia robusta para o desenvolvimento de software educativo que alie contribuições teóricas e metodológicas oriundas da Engenharia Didática e da Engenharia de Software.

Prototyping is an essential activity in the early stages of product development. This activity can provide insight into the learning process that takes place during the implementation of an idea. It can also help to improve the design of a product. This information and the process are useful in design education as they can be used to enhance students' ability to prototype their ideas and develop creative solutions. To observe the activity of prototype development, we conducted a study on students participating in a 7-week course: Principles of Digital Fabrication. During the course, eight teams made prototypes and shared their weekly developments via internet blog posts. The posts contained prototype pictures, descriptions of their ideas, and reflections on activities. The blog documentation of the prototypes developed by the students was done without the researchers' intervention, providing essential data or research. Based on a review of other methods of capturing the prototype development process, we compare existing documentation tools with the method used in the case study and outline the practices and tools related to the effective documentation of prototyping activity.

Three different types of mutation testing will be evaluated in this experiment: strong mutation, selective mutation and weak mutation,considering the experience of the testers as a blocking variable.

A large international company provides several different web-based services. Due to economical uncertainty in the global market, the company wants to increase the efficiency of their JavaScript programming teams. We have been asked to perform an experiment to identify which IDE helps developers the most to produce bug-free code. The IDE will be pre-installed on developer computers given to new employees, who will be encouraged to use it. In the experiment, we conduct an empirical study to measure the correctness of code produced by a number of developers using three different IDEs.

This experiment will explore whether factors such as popular IDEs and primary programming languages has a significant effect on the software development cost of a specific company.

Work in Mobile App Energy Consumption has drawn researchers and practitioners from a broad range of communities. This diversity has enriched and informed the research from many different angles. However, it has also led to a confusing and conflicting mix of terms, names, expressions, and classification schemes. An important first step toward addressing this problem for the mobile Software Energy Consumption community is to develop a consistent, shared understanding of existing energy issues in the mobile domain and to identify any limitations in previous attempts to categorize or classify these issues. To do that, we will first conduct an extensive literature survey that will identify relevant publications from mobile Software Energy Consumption community-related venues. Then we will use a grounded theory based approach to extract information from the selected publications that are relevant to our research questions. Finally we will perform additional analyses in order to answer each research question.

In the construction and analysis of a planar Pythagorean–hodograph (PH) quintic curve r(t), t∈[0,1] using the complex representation, it is convenient to invoke a translation/rotation/scaling transformation so r(t) is in canonical form with r(0)=0, r(1)=1 and possesses just two complex degrees of freedom. By choosing two of the five control–polygon legs of a quintic PH curve as these free complex parameters, the remaining three control–polygon legs can be expressed in terms of them and the roots of a quadratic or quartic equation. Consequently, depending on the chosen two control–polygon legs, there exist either two or four distinct quintic PH curves that are consistent with them. A comprehensive analysis of all possible pairs of chosen control polygon legs is developed, and examples are provided to illustrate this control–polygon paradigm for the construction of planar quintic PH curves.

As a general definition, software engineering is “the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software.” The importance of user-related factors has long been recognized by various researchers as important to the successful implementation of any commercially available system. This study attempts to test the importance of these factors as determinants of software engineering project success as measured by adherence to specified requirements, compliance with initial budget estimations, timeliness of agreed delivery, and overall user satisfaction with the product delivered. It has brought together some user-related variables (degree of user participation, user expertise, user/developer communication, user training, user influence, and user conflict) previously studied separately by different authors into a more cohesive model. Data regarding 178 system development projects using software engineering methodologies has been used to test proposed relationships between the independent variables and project success as defined in this study. The results confirm the importance of user participation, training, expertise, user/developer communication, and lack of user conflict for improving project success.

In the literature, there are clear-cut techniques for system safety analysis but little support for software-specific safety evaluation. This article provides a software safety analysis method to help practitioners comply with ISO 26262-6 in Agile software development.

The hardware industry is desperate for a modern way to do mechanical design. A new CAD program created for the modern world would lower the barrier to building hardware, decrease the time of development, and usher in a new era of building. The tools used to build with today are supported on the shoulders of giants, but a lot could be done to make them even better. At some point, mechanical CAD lost some of its roots of innovation. Let's dive into a few of the problems with the CAD programs that exist today and see how to make them better.

This research aims to create a framework to guide the development of design thinking support tools - that is, tools that enable people to express themselves creatively and develop as creative thinkers. The main goal is to develop advanced software and social networking sites that empower users to not only be productive, but also have new technologies. Potential users of these interfaces include software with other engineers, various scientists, product and image designers, builders, teachers, students and many more. Improved communication methods can enable effective psychological search, improved interaction between groups, and faster recovery processes. These advanced combinations should also provide strong support for hypothesis formation, rapid testing of alternatives, improved visual perception, and better distribution of results.

As technology is advancing and affecting every phase of human life, health care facilities are also getting improved with the introduction of new advanced, customized, and patient-centric approaches in software engineering. Engineers all around the world are working to create unique and efficient ways for the prevention and early detection of diseases along with improving the patients’ experience while using these technologies. With the gain in computing power and access to a wide range of software, software engineers are working on technologies such as Big Data, AI, Data Science, and Cybersecurity to improve the existing methodologies and pave the way for patient-centric approaches and knowledge translation.

Software engineering (SE) researchers and research networks from emerging communities are often not visible in already established Software Engineering venues for a multitude of reasons. This limits the opportunities and mutual bene ts that can arise from collaborations between global and emerging Software Engineer- ing networks. This article focuses on a rst attempt to provide a map of the African software engineering research community with focus on the networks of two big East African Universities. We hope that this very initial mapping e ort will help to raise aware- ness in the international community about the variety of software engineering research in Africa. We formulate some suggestions for making our academic Software Engineering community more inclusive.

The article considers the most modern software that can be used in the development of various architectural and design projects of interior and exterior spaces, as well as highlights the features and benefits of using each of them in projects within the disciplines of specialty 191 Architecture and Urban Planning. The main problem of modern architectural education is that with evolution of computer technologies, began the active development, implementation and modernization of various software tools for various types of design, 3-D modeling, sketching, etc. This area has developed very rapidly and almost every year new versions of programs are developed, where new features appear that increase the quality, efficiency, convenience and speed of work with these programs. Due to such a rapid software update, the previously developed curricula for the specialty 191 Architecture and Urban Planning need to be updated. Today in the world there is a situation that the greater the number of programs owned by the employee and the higher the skill of working with them, the greater the value and need for staff in the global labor market. Therefore, modern educational programs need to be modernized by introducing practical work with new software, which was discussed in the article. Namely, the Magic Plan, Ruler App and Photo Ruler programs that will be useful for measuring the designed premises. Home Design 3D and Homestyler interior design programs will come in handy for developing and approving a general interior design solution with a customer. To develop the working documentation, the CAD programs Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Autocad, Graphisoft Archicad and the BIMx Viever application were considered. BIMx Viever may be needed for demonstrating the work done to the customer or additional consultations with him. The article also discussed 3-D modeling programs Sketchup, Sculptris, Autodesk 3ds Max, Grasshopper and visualization programs Corona Render, V-Ray, Lumion and Abvent Artlantis. Additionally, the programs that may be needed for designing a project album were considered, they include CAD programs, programs for working with PDF files such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, and graphic editors Adobe Photoshop and its analogues.
