This chapter examines panic-buying (PB) as byproduct of pandemics. Panic buying is associated with disasters including pandemics. If and when disasters become more prominent and prevalent, understanding phenomena like PB becomes an important part of disaster communication and disaster management. Panic buying of toilet paper was examined during the international Covid-19 crisis of 2019–2020 in an effort to study and explain the behavior of PB, who panic buyers are, which drivers motivate PB as well as the socio-psychological explanations of panic-buying found in the existing literature. The chapter concludes with some recommendations to reduce PB in the future. This is a snapshot of a behavior intrinsic to disasters of all sorts and should serve as both explicative and proscriptive warnings.

This paper examines the role of technology firms in computerizing personality tests from the early 1960s to late 1980s. It focuses on the National Computer Systems (NCS) and their development of an automated interpretation for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality inventory (MMPI). NCS trumpeted their computerized interpretation as a way to free up clerical labor and mitigate human bias. Yet psychologists cautioned that proprietary algorithms risked obscuring decision rules. I show how clinics, courtrooms, and businesses all had competing interests in the use of computerized personality tests. As I argue, the development of computerized psychological tests was shaped both by business concerns about intellectual property and profits and psychologists' concerns with validity and access to algorithms. Across these domains, the common claim was that computerized psychological testing could provide a technical fix for bias. This paper contributes to histories of computing emphasizing the importance of IP, the relationship between labor, technology, and expertise, and to histories of algorithms.

The use of respondent quotes to headline qualitative research papers is a popular literary device found in many academic journals. This practice has increased over the last four decades and now appears normalised within qualitative research writing. This article provides a critical analysis of this trend in academic writing and concomitant publishing. Content and framework analyses of 40 papers employing this literary device to summarise the respective studies identified (i) a lack of methodological rigor, (ii) incomplete analysis, (iii) an overall mis-representation of the wider qualitative dataset, and (iv) possible investigator bias associated with using respondent quotes as titles of qualitative research papers. This article questions the credibility of purposely selecting a single experience that reduces the wider collective experience into one deterministic statement. This article contends that such practice is antithetical to the principles of qualitative research. Recommendations are provided to better monitor this practice throughout the academy.

PurposeThis paper aimed to review globally the empowerment programs for the prevention and control of smoking behavior among youths, to examine the role of empowerment in health promotion, to explore the stages of health promotion through community empowerment strategies including planning, implementation and evaluation. Finally, this paper will develop a model of youth empowerment to prevent and control smoking behavior that reflects theory and experience drawn from the literature.Design/methodology/approachThis review synthesized articles on community empowerment and health promotion, youth empowerment programs for tobacco prevention and control globally from books and electronic databases from the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) library in the publication period 2000–2020. Relevant literature was selected and critically reviewed which reflected the role empowerment in health promotion, stage of community empowerment strategy as described by Laverack and youth empowerment concept in tobacco control as described by Holden.FindingsDocuments that specifically discuss empowerment programs for smoking prevention and control are still limited. The findings document that youth empowerment in tobacco control do not fully integrate the theory empowerment as described by Laverack and Holden. This paper provides information about the stages of youth empowerment, and a conceptual framework of youth empowerment for the prevention and control of smoking behavior. Youth empowerment is done through the direct involvement of youth in programs starting from program design, planning, implementation and evaluation. Indicators of the success of the empowerment process are reflected in the increase in the empowerment domain. Meanwhile, the output of empowerment can be seen from the individual- or group-level changes.Originality/valueThis paper proposes a model of youth empowerment for the prevention and control of smoking behavior among youths based on theory and experience in the field.

This paper does not set out to describe the reasons why a new concept of dental care should be deemed as acceptable and recognised as mainstream. Rather, the starting point of this paper is the belief that some dentists who are increasing the overall vertical dimension for worn dentition patients are not using the protocols of the traditional 're-organised approach'. If adhesive direct restorations are used, there seems to be anecdotal indication that despite not restoring in the terminal hinge axis, it can have a successful outcome. So, while not criticising this approach simply because it does not follow orthodoxy, the paper has two objectives. It hopes to stimulate some debate and research on this subject. Furthermore, by suggesting some parameters for what might be considered a new approach, it aims to improve patient outcome.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a significant role in Human Resource Management (HRM), especially when it comes to stipulating desired employee performance or behaviour, such as work performance, job satisfaction, organizational commitment or retention. However, the academic literature offers very fragmented or partial answers to questions addressing this issue, as many scholars focus exclusively on e.g. one-country or one-industry based sample only. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to summarize the current "state-of-the-art" trends in academic literature and thereafter, based on the findings, propose a broader contemporary conceptual approach to managing CSR in relation to employees. The results suggest a positive causal relationship between CSR and desirable employee behaviour, with job satisfaction often playing the function of a mediator. The findings also suggest that adding CSR to HRM practices could improve employees' work attitudes. In doing so, full compatibility with other concepts and principles across the organization is a premise.

Human resource management is one of the necessary tools of todays modern organizations. Businesses without a trained and skillful human resource (HR) are far left behind in competition and market share. The fundamental role of HR and human resource systems are to hunt, hire and train professionals for different business structures and sections. Without proper and professional team of human resource, organizations simply become machines and thus do not survive in the long run. This paper has been designed to review the existing literature available on HRM practices, organizational commitment, perceived organizational support and demographic attributes to extract the mediation model.

AIM To present the first iteration of the caring life-course theory. BACKGROUND Despite requiring care from birth to death, a person's universal or fundamental care needs and the subsequent care provision, either by self or others, has yet to be presented within a life-course perspective. Accurately describing the care people require across their lifespan enables us to identify who, what type, how and where this care should be provided. This novel perspective can help to legitimise a person's care needs and the support they require from wider care systems and contexts. DESIGN Discussion paper outlines theory development. We adopted an inductive approach to theory development, drawing upon existing literature and the team's diverse experiences. Our theoretical insights were refined through a series of collaborative meetings to define the theory's constructs, until theoretical saturation was reached. DISCUSSION Fourteen constructs are identified as essential to the theory. We propose it is possible, using these constructs, to generate caring life-course trajectories and predict divergences in these trajectories. The novel contribution of the theory is the interplay between understanding a person's care needs and provision within the context of their lifespan and personal histories, termed their care biography, and understanding a person's care needs and provision at specific points in time within a given care network and socio-political context. IMPACT FOR NURSING The caring life-course theory can provide a roadmap to inform nursing and other care industry sectors, providing opportunities to integrate and deliver care from the perspective of the person and their care history, trajectories and networks, with those of professional care teams. It can help to shape health, social and economic policy and involve individuals, families and communities in more constructive ways of talking about the importance of care for improved quality of life and healthy societies.

Due to poverty, many children begin to work on the streets and in the informal sector although they need to continue their education. Children who work on the streets usually pick waste papers and their job continue whole day. Therefore they are forced to drop out of school. Waste pickers who are at the age of compulsory education may appear to be a problem for both the country and the education system. The aim of this study is to determine the educational levels and the future expectations of the children who work on the streets by picking waste papers instead of continuing their education. According to the findings, a great majority of the children who pick waste papers are males. The results reveal that the most of them work because of poverty, their age range from 13 to 15 and they drop out of school after 5 years of education. Although the most of them want to go to school and have a job as a policeman or army officer, they see their future ambiguous.

The value of incorporating research evidence into clinical practice is in part, to help acknowledge, accept and manage uncertainties. The urgency related to the Covid-19 pandemic has changed usual publication process and information sharing. The rapid knowledge exchange between theory, research and clinical recommendation has occurred with the hope of preventing Covid-19 related mortality and reducing morbidity. However, expediting knowledge transfer should not occur at the expense of accuracy and cautious interpretation of the research evidence. Such carelessness only serves to inundate the public and health professionals with false or misleading information. Such inaccuracies, especially when relating to potential therapeutic strategies for Covid-19 are likely to have severe negative consequence on people's health. There is therefore a need to avoid speculation and favour scientific rigour and intellectual honesty in claims made about evidence on benefits of manual treatment for Covid-19 patients. This letter to the editor questions overstatements found in Marin et al.'s published narrative review and focuses on three avoidable types of errors: misinterpretation, cherry picking and lack of methodological rigour.

Networking and team working are becoming the foundations of human performance in educational, organizational and recreational settings. Here, new communities of practice are being established to promote an engagement economy that will be able to foster innovation and success by sustaining collective well-being and group flourishing. Considered as “positive technologies”, Serious Games (SGs) can support these processes. By fostering continuous learning experiences blended with entertaining affordances, SGs have in fact been able to shape new opportunities for human psychological training and assessment. However, despite the impressive growth of SGs applications, only a few of them have been tested and scientifically considered from an empirical point of view. Our study tries to address this gap, evaluating the potential of digital game technology compared to paper-based applications not only among individuals, but also among groups. The study, conducted with Mind the Game, a multiplayer SG, involved 75 students. Preliminary results showed only minor but fundamental differences between the two experimental conditions. On the one hand, groups who experienced the paper-based condition felt more competent than groups exposed to the digital experience, reporting higher levels of negative feelings too. On the other hand, groups exposed to the digital condition described themselves as more challenged and efficient in a collective way.

OBJECTIVES In China, news media are useful for educating the public about the health threats of air pollution. To explore the potential gaps between scientific findings and the public's understanding of them, the characteristics of news media articles and their corresponding scientific papers were analysed. METHODS We used 22 articles relating to the health outcomes of exposure to outdoor air pollution published on Baidu News over the past year. An assessment tool developed by Robinson et al was used to evaluate the quality scores of news articles. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to measure the relationship between news media reporting and the characteristics of scientific papers. Misleading reporting, interpretation, or extrapolation in headlines and text bodies of news articles were examined. RESULTS The quality scores of the news articles ranged from -4 to 8, with an overall median score of 3. Correlation results showed that the scientific papers citation in Twitter (r = .88, P < .001) and Facebook (r = .64, P < .01) were significantly and positively associated with their citations in news stories. Media misunderstanding of scientific findings was common: 15 news headlines were identified with at least one spin (misrepresentation of scientific results), and 12 news articles had seven types of spin in the body texts. CONCLUSION Little media attention has been paid to scientific findings by Chinese researchers. Therefore, researchers and science journalists in China should make a better effort to engage in accurate and informative public discourse on domestic research.

Scholarly peer review is crucial to science: it not only determines what is published where, but also, indirectly, who is hired, funded and promoted. Yet, virtually every academic has peer review horror stories. Empirical evidence suggests that "peer review is prejudiced, capricious, inefficient, ineffective, and generally unscientific" [1]. An experiment at a major machine learning conference found that peer review was unreliable highlighted that the outcome of peer review can be very noisy [2, 3]. In May 2019, ACM SIGSOFT launched an initiative to improve the quality of research papers and peer reviews at software engineering venues. It has two main components: empirical standards and recommendations for improving review processes.

This paper provides an introduction to issues surrounding the participation rights of young people in research and the implications of their growing involvement in research as well as providing a discourse on the ethical implications related to consent. The unique contribution of this paper is that it considers children’s rights in respect to the increasing opportunities for young people to take part in evaluation research. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to acknowledge the growing involvement for young people in research and the implications of ensuring that their rights of participation are respected. Secondly we will consider the children’s rights legislation and our obligations as researchers to implement this. Finally we will explore consent as an issue in its own right as well as the practicalities of accessing participants. This paper will postulate that any research about young people should involve and prioritise at all stages of the research process; including participation in decision-making. We conclude by identifying five key principles, which we believe can help to facilitate the fulfilment of post-primary pupils’ ability to consent to participate in trials and evaluative research.

Seeking to be creative, offering community leadership, taking a second career are just some examples of what is becoming commonplace. However, one of the biggest problems we face is that those who are less visible in the community, such as older and retired people, or people living in isolated rural areas, usually have fewer opportunities to meet people and thus can easily find themselves disengaged from society. This can frustrate their desires to participate in society. Many may then become depressed and lonely, lacking the motivation to become re-engaged with their neighbourhood. This paper follows collegiality, demonstrating how, as a central value of medically trained coroners, it can shape the content of death investigations and certificates. Drawing on ethnographic evidence from a 16-month-long study of the Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC) of Ontario, Canada, I argue that collegiality is an instrument of trust that both affords investigators tremendous access to information, and severely limits the flow of that information into the public domain that the OCC serves. The paper focuses on in-care death investigations, which are those where the OCC's medically qualified coroners find themselves investigating the quality of care delivered by professional colleagues. I show how professional expertise, experience and collegial values often combine to see instances of poor or even incompetent care dealt with privately (rather than publicly) or referred up the medical (rather than public safety) hierarchy. The burden of my argument is that collegial deference to the autonomy and skills of other physicians tends to see coroners expurgate the death certificates they produce. These expurgations obscure competence issues from public view and reduce the accuracy of the certificates. I close with a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of medically qualified death investigators, as well as potential adjustments to improve the accuracy of in-care death investigations and certifications.

The increasing demand on academics and researchers to publish has led to the development of fake journals (also known as predatory journals). Such journals lack peer review and precipitate unfair criticism toward legitimate open access journals. Predatory journals tend to bombard a researcher's mailbox on a daily basis, inviting authors to submit a review/manuscript/opinion/short case to their journal while promising expedited publication – against a fee. This study assessed the unsolicited emails received over the period of November 2017 by a young and by a senior researcher. The young researcher received a substantially higher amount of emails (n = 101) compared to the senior researcher (n = 23). The article processing costs for solicited journals received, ranged between $49 and $3019. These journals are almost all only indexed in Google Scholar and do not display any meaningful journal metrics. Furthermore, the majority of the unsolicited emails were not relevant to the researcher's field of study. Therefore authors and readers alike should evaluate emails received with regard to journal legitimacy prior to submission of work to possibly predatory journals.

Emotional Intelligence is a set of qualities and competencies that captures a broad collection of individual skills and dispositions, usually referred to as soft skills or inter and intra-personal skills, that are outside the traditional areas of specific knowledge, general intelligence, and technical or professional skills. Emotions are an intrinsic part of our biological makeup, and every morning they march into the office with us and influence our behaviour. Work-Life Balance is a challenging issue for IT leaders, managers and has also attracted the attention of researchers. Work/life balance, in its broadest sense, is defined as a satisfactory level of involvement or ‘fit’ between the multiple roles in a person’s life. In this climate managing the boundary between home and work is becoming more challenging. Organizations need to ensure they not just encourage but mandate a practical and workable work/life balance policy, benefiting and meeting the needs of both the organization and its employees. Organizations not providing real opportunity for employees work/life balance are opening themselves up to increasing numbers of dissatisfied and unproductive employees and hence increased attrition rates. Merely creating a work/life policy framework is not enough; fostering an organizational culture that supports the use of available policies is also of great importance. Organizational uncertainty affects all administration processes and functions whereas perception of uncertainty affects not only organizational administration and functions, but may also adversely affect individual performance. Consequently, a review of the existing papers related to organizational uncertainty and developing suggestions on the issue will direct the course of solutions to be found for this situation. A secondary purpose of this review is researching the titles, types, contents, methods, findings and comments, conclusions, and suggestions of the scientific papers related to organizational uncertainty in education and school administration in the period from 1990 onward. The research was designed with a qualitative research model, and a document examination technique was used. The data were obtained using document analysis. Content analysis was used for interpreting the documents. The year 1990 is a critical milestone in the study since it was a period when social and political events were being experienced rapidly and intensely in both a national and an international context. Since it is of significance to discuss the studies conducted in this period and their outcomes, the year of 1990 was selected as the date of commencement.

— Pollution is one major problem that has never been completely solved up until now. Though it has been discussed and debated for over decades, these continuous acts are becoming more harmful to human beings as well as the environment. As the seriousness of the matter started to capture world’s attention, solution such as recycling has been put forward. Imperative as it is, the responsibility falls on human attitudes to apply recycling in daily life. Among the matter discussed is paper usage which is indisputably very prominent in human life particularly teenagers. With 408 teenagers as respondents, the objectives of this paper are to identify the perceptions’ of teenagers in reusing as well as recycling papers in their life. The findings indicate that even though they were aware with the need of reusing and recycling, they did not practise it in life. Index Terms — Pollution, recycle, reuse, teenagers, environment.

This communication aims to identify factors fostering Information Technology (IT) acceptance by nurses in Morocco. It suggests a model based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Usage of Technology [1] extended by a new construct called “Trust”. The study was conducted in public and private healthcare organizations located in Agadir city, south of Morocco. It concerned 250 nurses, representing almost 63% of the target population (400 nurses). Results showed that the suggested model explained 42.6% of total variance in the intention to accept IT by nurses. They also revealed that Trust, Performance expectancy and Facilitating conditions influenced significantly the Moroccan nurses' intention to accept to use IT. Moreover, the research work develops here a useful knowledge that could help healthcare managers and decision makers who plan to implement IT in efficient manner within their organizations.

The research into patient involvement is seldom concerned with the significance of cultural and structural factors. In this discussion paper, we illustrate our considerations on some of the challenges in implementing the ideal of patient involvement by showing how such factors take part in shaping the ways in which the intentions to involve patients are converted to practical interventions. The aim was to contribute to the approach dealing with contextual and structural factors of significance for patient involvement. With the idea of “institutional logics,” borrowed from the Danish scholar, Erik Riiskjær, we first demonstrate, with examples from our own research, how patient involvement is interpreted differently within the different logics. Then, we show how the different interpretations of patient involvement meet and conflict in mutual competition as the ideals are sought to be converted to practical interventions. At last, we argue that an adequate theoretical model for the development in the future health care system should be expanded with a “patient logic.”.

This paper introduces the review process to new researchers, describes the institutional background for reviews, and provides advice to reviewers. The objectives of a quality review are (1) to assist the editor in his/her gatekeeping role, and (2) to assist the authors in improving their work. We argue that the review process plays a critical role in the dissemination of research that ultimately provides credibility to the body of academic knowledge. This process relies on expert, anonymous reviews by established researchers (typically those who have already published in top journals on similar topics). Because reviewers are relatively scarce, and anonymous, the review process also relies on the personal ethics of reviewers. Invitations to review should only be accepted if the researcher has the skill, time, objectivity, and inclination to do a quality review. A quality review should consider the contribution, execution, and conclusions of the paper.

This critical discussion draws on the authors’ personal and professional experiences of personalisation. It argues that personalisation is a persuasive concept, constructed by political rhetoric, but requiring careful evaluation of its meaning and purpose. It has been progressively developed over the last few years as a guiding principle in the provision of social care services to people in the UK. For disabled people this has meant significant changes in the way services are delivered and the opportunity to receive support through means of direct payments or personal budgets, enabling them to have greater choice and control over the services they receive. In principle this should allow services to be tailored to individual needs by supporting disabled people to employ personal assistants and design their own packages of care. Whilst this has been a positive development in people’s lives, the idea of personalisation has been subject to many critiques. These will be discussed, and it will be argued that real improvements in people’s lives are not just dependent on receiving individualised funding. Wider structural issues, as well as prevailing attitudes and understandings of disability in society and by professionals, are critical to consider, if the physical and social barriers which obstruct people’s access to valued social roles and lives in the community are to be removed. For services and practitioners to become more enabling, there needs to be more awareness of and sensitivity towards values and messages inherent in the social model of disability and, on a more practical level, towards the sheer complexities of managing budgets and personal assistants. Through the experience of one disabled person, important factors impacting on the reality of personalisation will be considered, with the intention of deepening our understanding of the experience of personalisation beyond the popular rhetoric.

Background/Objectives:The objective of this article is to clarify what is meant by employee engagement and why it is important (particularly with respect to its effect on employee retention and performance), as well as to identify factors that are critical to its effective implementation.Methods/Statistical Analysis: For this study, researchers have used review method. In this paper I propose three criteria by which quantitative research manuscripts may be judged: Contribution, Clarity, and Citizenship. A manuscript's scientific contribution is the most critical criterion to consider when assessing its value. Structural clarity refers to the extent to which the manuscript follows journal article reporting standards, whereas content clarity refers to how the research is conveyed in both text and tabular form. Citizenship is evidenced by cues that the study was ethically conducted, honestly reported, and described with enough detail that others may replicate or extend the research. Reading a well-conceptualized and skillfully presented quantitative research article ranks as one of the professional activities that I enjoy most. The primary reason I enjoy reading quantitative research is that despite claims to the con- trary, numbers do not speak for themselves. Rather, through the process of operationalizing concepts so they are measurable, developing hypotheses under the guidance of an appropriate theory, then careful, ethical interpretation and reporting of the resulting analyses, researchers breathe life into the numbers that reflect the actual social, economic, psychological, and other concepts of interest. When this process is executed well, a quantitative research paper offers meaning beyond the otherwise lifeless numbers. But how does one know whether a quantitative research manuscript is con- ceptualized well, skillfully presented, and responsibly completed? For this, we necessarily turn to the experience and judgment of experts in our fields. In the same way that experience and judgment is exercised by the jeweler charged with assessing the quality of a diamond according to its cut, color, carats, and clarity, or the loan officer tasked with assessing a loan applicant's capacity, character, and collateral, Family & Consumer Sciences Research Journal (FCSRJ) reviewers and editors assess the quality of each manuscript submitted for pub- lication. Of course, whether assessing diamonds, loans, or research, there are cues that signal the level of quality. With due apologies for forcing a 3-Cs anal- ogy even further, I have categorized those cues to quantitative research quality as: Contribution, Clarity, and Citizenship.

However, there are very few articles that review the recovery literature; furthermore, articles that report research directly related to the recovery concept are scarce. •Originally, the focus of the recovery movement was upon the role of the individual in their own recovery journey; there has been a shift towards the responsibility of service providers to ensure a recovery focused service. •Tensions have emerged in the literature between the humanistic philosophy of recovery and the biomedical model that has historically informed psychiatry. Similarly, the notion of recovery may overemphasize the significance of personal agency against the responsibility of services to fulfil a duty of care. •Recovery has become strongly associated with social roles and meaningful activities including education, work and engagement with sport and arts activities. Abstract This paper is the first in a series of two which reviews the contemporary British evidence-base relating to recovery in mental health over a 4-year period. This review uses a systematic approach analysing the British peer-reviewed literature relating to recovery and mental health. The second paper in the series reviews the non-peer-reviewed literature. Recovery is not a new concept; however, it has recently become increasingly prevalent in practitioner, policy and research discourses. In total 12 papers met the inclusion criteria. Five main themes emerged from the analysis: hope and optimism, meaning to life, activities promoting recovery, definitions and discourses and implications for mental health practice. By including only peer-reviewed literature this paper is in a strong position to analyse the theoretical development of the recovery concept and highlight future directions for recovery in mental health services.

In tax compliance research, there has been a significant shift in research paradigms, from an emphasis on enforcement to approaches that stress cooperation. In this paper, we trace this shift. We first describe the major “actors” in the tax compliance game and their complex interactions. Second, we examine various perspectives on the compliance decisions of individuals, starting with “economic” factors and then moving to factors based more on “psychology”, like social norms, fairness, and social interactions. Third, we present the “slippery slope framework” as a unifying framework. We conclude with recommendations based on this framework that have been shown to improve compliance.

Many older adults are concerned that new internet technologies, especially social media, add to the alienation and isolation of children and young adults. The author considers these concerns in relation to two child psychotherapies by skilled therapists, in which the patients used cyberdevices. The play‐like functions of these uses are discussed, including displacement, defense and communication. Since the child patients introduced cyberdevices that were developed in the earlier phases of technology development, rather than the more contemporary, web-based social media, some emerging questions remain unanswered. Nonetheless, the therapists’ deft and sensitive handling of the patients’ uses of technology suggests that many of the established psychodynamic approaches are appropriate to the new situations.

This paper reports ongoing investigations into the use and role of paper-mail communications in domestic environments. It utilises ethnographically informed data to analyse how paper-mail supports various social roles within the home, particularly a division of labour whereby women tend to be largely responsible for what may be called "managing the home". Implications for the future of paper-mail are considered, as well as suggestions made about how email tools may be designed to reflect the patterns of social organisation within the home.

Peer reviews of research articles submitted to journals are an occluded genre, that is, they are not publicly available documents which are part of the research record. When submitting their first scientific papers to international journals for publication, NNSE (non-native speaker of English) novice researchers face the challenging task of framing effective replies to referees’ criticisms, a complex process requiring considerable socio-cultural sensitivity and pragma-linguistic competence. In order to lessen the impact of linguistic and cultural barriers to early publication, it is likely that an awareness of relevant features of peer reviews would be helpful. However, as gatekeeping discourse, peer reviews remain largely under-researched principally due to their hidden status and issues of confidentiality. This study presents the description and analysis of referees’ comments contained in a corpus of 40 peer reviews of short scientific papers known as Letters. In the task of revising their manuscripts for publication, novice researchers need to interpret appropriately the motivation behind referees’ comments, for example, whether they are more directed towards revision of the technical subject matter ( ideational ), the effectiveness of the writer's interaction with the reader in the text ( interpersonal ), or an aspect of the text itself, for example, its format or length ( textual ). The results of this study highlight the strongly interpersonal orientation of referees’ concerns, with two-thirds of all comments in the corpus focusing on interactional deficiencies of NNSE researchers’ manuscripts.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Organization Commitment Using Ethical Climate as a moderator towards Ethical Decision Making of Accountants in Malaysia. Empirical research on ethical decision making of Accountants has shown that knowledge, skills and attitude are important factors in improving Accountants decision. However, literature on Accountants Ethical Decision Making in Malaysia has highlighted research gaps in few areas which is the use of Individual and Situational Moderators in measuring the Theorist of Ethical Behavior, The use of Personal Values to Measure Ethical Judgment, The effect of Organization Culture and Ethical Climate on Ethical Decision Making using Self-Efficacy as the Moderator. To fill this sequel of research gaps, this research tends to identify the effects of knowledge, skills and attitude and Organization Commitment using Ethical Climate as a Moderator to measure ethical decision making of Accountants. In doing so, this research use Theory of Planned Behavior. This study focus on the Big Four Accounting Firms in Malaysia. This is because the audit of the Transmille Company by Deloitte auditors has not lived up to the expectations of public. The positivistic research philosophy will be used to empirically test the formulated hypotheses. The study will use quantitative analysis approach and survey strategy to collect data by adapting established measurement tools for each construct in the conceptual model. Questionnaires results will be analyzed using SPSS software.

While certification numbers increase, most empirical research pertaining to the construct of certification has looked at negative aspects. Although this study does not deny that certifications can be merely symbolic credentials, it aims to test more positive outcomes associated with both certification and motivation to certify. In this study of human resource practitioners, hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling reported that individuals who were more self-determined to certify reported a higher level of job competence and occupational commitment. A future research agenda to address the overall gap in certification research is also presented.

Although the public uses the media for sex advice, information and validation, much media coverage of sex contains inconsistent, outdated, or incorrect messages. There is little encouragement for those working in sex therapy, research, education or healthcare to engage with the media. The standard of media training and availability for these professions varies. Not all professionals work from an evidence-based perspective, and not all ‘experts’ in the media are recognised as such by their peers, resulting in inconsistent information being given to journalists by people not always qualified to speak about sex. Furthermore, a lack of training and understanding of sex and relationships results in misunderstanding or misreporting of stories by journalists, and perpetuating poor media coverage of sex. Ethics is an important part of scientific communication. Not only authors, but reviewers, editors and publishers, have to be aware of all the ethical rules and practices, discouraging any attempt of misconduct. One of the most usual misconducts in scientific publishing is plagiarism. It has negative consequences for authors, editors and scholarly journals causing loss of credibility, reputation, and, therefore loss of readers and finances. Information literacy in that context implies knowledge of information evaluation, proper ways of quotation and citation of resources. Avoiding plagiarism has its roots in higher education – students have to be educated about the proper ways of using other persons’ ideas. By using modern technologies, plagiarism is easier than ever – the “copy-paste” practice is easy to use. Students have to be thought that the practice is great threat to proper professional and scientific communication. Plagiarism detection software can diminish the threat, but it is not the only way of controlling producers of scientific information. Academic ethics can be assured by proper education, good codes of ethics and detailed instructions to authors of scientific works. Accurate author’s guidelines in scholarly journals could help all the participants of scientific communication to avoid misconducts. The paper will analyse the content of author’s guidelines in Croatian journals in the field of information science, with the accent on citation guidelines. The sample will include all the journals that cover the field, as listed in the Hrčak portal (portal of Croatian scientific journals). The analysis will try to find out whether the journals (i. e. their publishers and editors) mention and/or explain plagiarism, ethics, authorship, prior publication and reference systems in their instructions to authors. The paper will also analyse content of codes of ethics of Croatian universities, with the accent on the parts concerning plagiarism (universities of Zagreb, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik). We expect to conclude about the use of proper protection mechanisms of Croatian academic community when it comes to misconducts, especially plagiarism, in publishing results of scientific work. In conclusion, a list of the most important steps in avoiding plagiarism in scientific papers will be given.

Two Iowa psychologists have written a guide to parenting plans for legal professionals, published by the American Bar Association's Family Law Section. By concentrating only on residential schedules for low-conflict families, the authors of Creating Effective Parenting Plans give family lawyers a helpful primer on child development, but fall short of providing the comprehensive treatment of parenting plans that their audience needs most. Reliance on the primary parent paradigm, failure to address any aspect of parenting plans other than the residential schedule, and exclusion of complex issues limit the value of this guide.
