The concept of frame multiresolution analysis (FMRA) on local fields of positive characteristic was given by Shah in his paper, Frame Multiresolution Analysis on Local Fields published by Journal of Operators. The author has studied the concept of minimum-energy wavelet frames on these prime characteristic fields. We continued the studies based on frame multiresolution analysis and minimum-energy wavelet frames on local fields of positive characteristic. In this paper, we introduce the notion of the construction of minimum-energy wavelet frames based on FMRA on local fields of positive characteristic. We provide a constructive algorithm for the existence of the minimum-energy wavelet frame on the local field of positive characteristic. An explicit construction of the frames and bases is given. In the end, we exhibit an example to illustrate our algorithm.

This paper is the second part of paper (Grishkov and Guerreiro in Sao Paulo J Math Sci v4(1):93–107, 2010) about simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic two. In this paper we prove that all simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over k of absolute toral rank three are isomorphic to the Cartan algebra $$W_1$$ or the Hamilton algebra $$H_2.$$ We hope to prove that those algebras are the unique simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over the field k. Observe that in the case of absolute toral rank 2 this fact was proved in [2].

In this paper, we investigate a mixed fractional integral boundary value problem with p(t)-Laplacian operator. Firstly, we derive the Green function through the direct computation and obtain the properties of Green function. For $$p(t)\ne $$ constant, under the appropriate conditions of the nonlinear term, we establish the existence result of at least one positive solution of the above problem by means of the Leray–Schauder fixed point theorem. Meanwhile, we also obtain the positive extremal solutions and iterative schemes in view of applying a monotone iterative method. For $$p(t)=$$ constant, by using Guo–Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem, we study the existence of positive solutions of the above problem. These results enrich the ones in the existing literatures. Finally, some examples are included to demonstrate our main results in this paper and we give out an open problem.

In this paper, we present a version of Guan-Zhou’s optimal $L^{2}$ extension theorem and its application. As a main application, we show that under a natural condition, the question posed by Ohsawa in his series paper VIII on the extension of $L^{2}$ holomorphic functions holds. We also give an explicit counterexample which shows that the question fails in general.

In this paper, a new approach to the definition of the interpolating rational process of Fejer – Hermite with first-type Chebyshev – Markov nodes on a segment is studied and some of its approximating properties are described. In the introduction a brief analysis of the results on the topic of the research is carried out. Herein, the methods of the construction of interpolating processes, in particular, Fejer – Hermite processes, in the polynomial and rational approximation are analysed. A new method to determine the interpolating rational Fejer – Hermite process is proposed. One of the main results of this paper is the proof of the uniform convergence of this process for an arbitrary function, which is continuous on the segment, under some restrictions for the poles of approximating functions. This result is preceded by some auxiliary statements describing the properties of special rational functions. The classic methods of mathematical analysis, approximation theory, and theory of functions of a complex variable are used to prove the results of the work. Moreover, we present the numerical analysis of the effectiveness of the application of the constructed interpolating Fejer – Hermite process for the approximation of a continuous function with singularities. The choice of parameters, on which the nodes of interpolation depend, is made in several standard ways. The obtained results can be applied to further study the approximating properties of interpolating processes.

A goal of the paper is to prove new inequalities connecting some functionals of probability distribution functions. These inequalities are based on the strict convexity of functions used in the definition of the functionals. The starting point is the paper “Cramer–von Mises distance: probabilistic interpretation, confidence intervals and neighborhood of model validation” by Ludwig Baringhaus and Norbert Henze. The present paper provides a generalization of inequality obtained in probabilistic interpretation of the Cramer–von Mises distance. If the equality holds there, then a chance to give characterization of some probability distribution functions appears. Considering this fact and a special character of the functional, it is possible to create a class of free-of-distribution two sample tests.

This paper is concerned with a system governed by nonsingular delay differential equations. We study the β-Ulam-type stability of the mentioned system. The investigations are carried out over compact and unbounded intervals. Before proceeding to the main results, we convert the system into an equivalent integral equation and then establish an existence theorem for the addressed system. To justify the application of the reported results, an example along with graphical representation is illustrated at the end of the paper.

In the first part of this paper, we consider the problem of fill-in of nonnegative scalar curvature (NNSC) metrics for a triple of Bartnik data $$(\varSigma ,\gamma ,H)$$ . We prove that given a metric $$\gamma $$ on $${{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}$$ ( $$3\le n\le 7$$ ), $$({{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1},\gamma ,H)$$ admits no fill-in of NNSC metrics provided the prescribed mean curvature H is large enough (Theorem 4). Moreover, we prove that if $$\gamma $$ is a positive scalar curvature (PSC) metric isotopic to the standard metric on $${{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}$$ , then the much weaker condition that the total mean curvature $$\int _{{{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}}H\,{{\mathrm {d}}}\mu _\gamma $$ is large enough rules out NNSC fill-ins, giving an partially affirmative answer to a conjecture by Gromov (Four lectures on scalar curvature, 2019, see P. 23). In the second part of this paper, we investigate the $$\theta $$ -invariant of Bartnik data and obtain some sufficient conditions for the existence of PSC fill-ins.

In their remarkable paper, Minakshisundaram and Pleijel established by using the parametrix for the heat equation the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel on compact Riemannian manifolds. The result has since been extensively used in the spectral analysis of the Laplace-Beltrami operator, and in particular, in proving Weyl’s law for the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues and various direct and inverse problems in spectral geometry. However, the question of describing the explicit values of the corresponding heat trace coefficients associated with an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold has remained an interesting task. In this paper, we review results on Minakshisundaram-Pleijel coefficients associated with the Laplacian on spheres $${\mathbb {S}}^{N}$$ ( $$N\ge 1$$ ) and other associated spectral invariants, namely, the Minakshisundaram-Pleijel zeta functions & their residues, and the zeta-regularised determinants of the Laplacian on spheres. The results reviewed deal mainly with closed-form formulae for the afore-mentioned spectral invariants and the explicit values of the first few of these spectral invariants are given.

In this paper, we study a system of three evolutionary operator equations involving fractional powers of selfadjoint, monotone, unbounded, linear operators having compact resolvents. This system constitutes a generalized and relaxed version of a phase field system of Cahn-Hilliard type modelling tumor growth that has originally been proposed in Hawkins-Daarud et al. (Int. J. Numer. Math. Biomed. Eng. 28 (2012), 3-24). The original phase field system and certain relaxed versions thereof have been studied in recent papers co-authored by the present authors and E. Rocca. The model consists of a Cahn-Hilliard equation for the tumor cell fraction, coupled to a reaction-diffusion equation for a function S representing the nutrient-rich extracellular water volume fraction. Effects due to fluid motion are neglected. Motivated by the possibility that the diffusional regimes governing the evolution of the different constituents of the model may be of different (e.g., fractional) type, the present authors studied in a recent note a generalization of the systems investigated in the abovementioned works. Under rather general assumptions, well-posedness and regularity results have been shown. In particular, by writing the equation governing the evolution of the chemical potential in the form of a general variational inequality, also singular or nonsmooth contributions of logarithmic or of double obstacle type to the energy density could be admitted. In this note, we perform an asymptotic analysis of the governing system as two (small) relaxation parameters approach zero separately and simultaneously. Corresponding well-posedness and regularity results are established for the respective cases; in particular, we give a detailed discussion which assumptions on the admissible nonlinearities have to be postulated in each of the occurring cases., Comment: Key words: fractional operators, Cahn-Hilliard systems, well-posedness, regularity of solutions, tumor growth models, asymptotic analysis

At present, real-time online measurement of fluid density is of great significance to improve the automation level of petrochemical and food industries. The tuning fork density sensor is widely used because of its characteristics of real-time online measurement, high measurement accuracy, simple structure, and convenient use. The traditional tuning fork density sensor in the market has the disadvantage of low resolution and being susceptible to liquid viscosity, which makes the sensor’s measurement accuracy low and not suitable for the measurement of high-viscosity liquid density. The measurement resolution and antiviscosity interference capability of the tuning fork density sensor are two major indexes to measure the measurement performance of the sensor, among the antiviscosity interference capability refers to the degree to which the measurement results of the sensor are affected by viscosity properties. However, the structural design of the tuning fork density sensor results in the conflict between the measurement resolution and the antiviscosity interference capability of the sensor, and the improvement of one performance is bound to affect the performance of the other. Aiming at the problem of how to balance the measuring performance of the tuning fork sensor, a density calculation model based on viscosity compensation is proposed in this paper. By studying the working principle and structure design of the tuning fork, the vibration characteristics of tuning fork in liquid with different viscosities and densities are modelled and simulated. From the results of simulation analysis, the better set of dimensions with balanced measuring performance is selected. Not only does the structure of the tuning fork have the characteristics of high resonance frequency, but also the measured results are less affected by the viscosity of the liquid. To solve the problem that density measurement is still affected by high-viscosity liquid after tuning fork dimension optimization, in this paper, the partial least square model is used to fit the experimental data of the frequency-density characteristics; then, the density calculation model based on the viscosity compensation is obtained by combining the frequency-viscosity characteristic experiment. Finally, through the performance test experiment comparing with the traditional tuning fork density sensor, the measurement resolution of the improved tuning fork density sensor is as high as 0.0001 g/cm3; within the viscosity range of 180 MPa·s, the accuracy reached ±0.001 g/cm3, and within 480 MPa·s, the measurement accuracy reached ±0.002 g/cm3. When the liquid viscosity reaches more than 10 MPa·s, the improved tuning fork density sensor has better overall measurement performance than the traditional tuning fork density sensor, and both of its measurement resolution and antiviscosity interference capability have been greatly improved.

Star configurations of points are configurations with known (and conjectured) extremal behaviors among all configurations of points in $\mathbb P_k^n$; additional interest come from their rich structure, which allows them to be studied using tools from algebraic geometry, combinatorics, commutative algebra and representation theory. In the present paper we investigate the more general problem of determining the structure of symbolic powers of a wide generalization of star configurations of points (introduced by Geramita, Harbourne, Migliore and Nagel) called star configurations of hypersurfaces in $\mathbb P_k^n$. Here (1) we provide explicit minimal generating sets of the symbolic powers $I^{(m)}$ of these ideals $I$, (2) we introduce a notion of $\delta$-c.i. quotients, which generalize ideals with linear quotients, and show that $I^{(m)}$ have $\delta$-c.i. quotients, (3) we show that the shape of the Betti tables of these symbolic powers is determined by certain "Koszul" strands and we prove that a little bit more than the bottom half of the Betti table has a regular, almost hypnotic, pattern, and (4) we provide a closed formula for all the graded Betti numbers in these strands. As a special case of (2) we deduce that symbolic powers of ideals of star configurations of points have linear quotients. We also improve and extend results by Galetto, Geramita, Shin and Van Tuyl, and provide explicit new general formulas for the minimal number of generators and the symbolic defects of star configurations. Finally, inspired by Young tableaux, we introduce a technical tool which may be of independent interest: it is a "canonical" way of writing any monomial in any given set of polynomials. In this paper, we prove the integrability of certain classes of dynamical systems on the tangent bundles of four-dimensional manifolds (systems with four degrees of freedom). The force field considered possessed so-called variable dissipation; they are generalizations of fields studied earlier. This paper continues earlier works of the author devoted to systems on the tangent bundles of two- and three-dimensional manifolds.

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for systems of 3-D quasilinear wave equations satisfying the null condition with initial data of low regularity. In the radially symmetric case, we prove the global existence for every small data in H 3 × H 2 with a low weight. To achieve this goal, we will show how to extend the global iteration method first suggested by Li and Chen (1988) [32] to the low regularity case, which is also another purpose of this paper. Finally, we apply our result to 3-D nonlinear elastic waves.

The paper contributes to the theory of the elimination of wild ramification for two-dimensional fields and continues the research related to the classification of fields introduced in the work of Masato Kurihara. We consider two-dimensional mixed-characteristic local fields with the characteristic of the finite residue field not equal to 2. The structure of fields that are weakly unramified over their constant subfield, i.e., the so-called standard fields, is well known. It is also known that any field can be extended into the standard one by a finite extension of its constants subfield. In the general case, the question of the minimum degree of this extension remains open. In Kurihara’s paper, two-dimensional fields are subdivided into two types as follows. A linear relation between the differentials of local parameters is considered. If the valuation of the coefficient at the uniformizer is less than that before the second local parameter, the field belongs to type I; otherwise it belongs to type II. This paper is devoted to the fields of type II. For them, we consider an improved Kurihara invariant: for each field, we introduce a quantity Δ equal to the difference between the valuations of the coefficients in the relation for the differentials of the local parameters. The degree of the constant extension that eliminates the ramification is not less for any field than the ramification index over the constant subfield. However, not all the fields have an extension of this degree. It is proved that in order that the extension of the least possible degree may exist, it suffices for the absolute values of Δ to be sufficiently large. The corresponding estimate for Δ depends on the ramification index of the field over its constant subfield.

International audience; Sampled-data control systems have steadily been gaining interest for their applications in automatic engineering where they are implemented as digital controllers and recently results have been obtained in optimal control theory for nonlinear sampled-data control systems and certain generalizations. In this paper we derive a Pontryagin maximum principle for general nonlinear finite-dimensional optimal sampled-data control problems with running inequality state constraints. In particular, we obtain a nonpositive averaged Hamiltonian gradient condition with the adjoint vector being a function of bounded variations. Our proof is based on the Ekeland variational principle. In general, optimal control problems with running inequality state constraints are difficult to solve using numerical methods due to the discontinuities (the jumps and the singular part) of the adjoint vector. However in our case we find that under certain general hypotheses the adjoint vector only experiences jumps at most at the sampling times and moreover the trajectory only contacts the running inequality state constraints at most at the sampling times. We call this behavior a bouncing trajectory phenomenon and it constitutes the second major focus of this paper. Finally taking advantage of the bouncing trajectory phenomenon we numerically solve three examples with different kinds of constraints and in several dimensions.

The present paper aims to develop geometrical approach for finite incompatible deformations arising in growing solids. The phenomena of incompatibility is modeled by specific affine connection on material manifold, referred to as material connection. It provides complete description of local incompatible deformations for simple materials. Meanwhile, the differential-geometric representation of such connection is not unique. It means that one can choose different ways for analytical definition of connection for single given physical problem. This shows that, in general, affine connection formalism provides greater potential than is required to the theory of simple materials (first gradient theory). For better understanding of this inconsistence it is advisable to study different ways for material connection formalization in details. It is the subject of present paper. Affine connection endows manifolds with geometric properties, in particular, with parallel transport on them. For simple materials the parallel transport is elegant mathematical formalization of the concept of a materially uniform (in particular, a stress-free) non-Euclidean reference shape. In fact, one can obtain a connection of physical space by determining the parallel transport as a transformation of the tangent vector, which corresponds to the structure of the physical space containing shapes of the body. One can alternatively construct affine connection of material manifold by defining parallel transport as the transformation of the tangent vector, in which its inverse image with respect to locally uniform embeddings does not change. Utilizing of the conception of material connections and the corresponding methods of non-Euclidean geometry may significantly simplify formulation of the initial-boundary value problems of the theory of incompatible deformations. Connection on the physical manifold is compatible with metric and Levi-Civita relations holds for it. Connection on the material manifold is considered in three alternative variants. The first leads to Weitzenbock space (the space of absolute parallelism or teleparallelism, i.e., space with zero curvature and nonmetricity, but with non-zero torsion) and gives a clear interpretation of the material connection in terms of the local linear transformations which transform an elementary volume of simple material into uniform state. The second one allows to choose the Riemannian space structure (with zero torsion and nonmetricity, but nonzero curvature) in material manifold and it is the most convenient way for deriving of field equations. The third variant is based on Weyl manifold with specified volume form and non-vanishing nonmetricity.

Since the second half of the twentieth century, wide studies of Sobolev-type equations are undertaken. These equations contain items that are derivatives with respect to time of the second order derivatives of the unknown function with respect to space variables. They can describe nonstationary processes in semiconductors, in plasm, phenomena in hydrodinamics and other ones. Notice that wide studies of qualitative properties of solutions of Sobolev-type equations exist. Namely, results about existence and uniqueness of solutions, their asymptotics and blow-up are known. But there are few results about exact solutions of Sobolev-type equations. There are books and papers about exact solutions of partial equations, but they are devoted mainly to classical equations, where the first or second order derivative with respect to time or the derivative with respect to time of the first order derivative of the unknown function with respect to the space variable is equal to a stationary expression. Therefore it is interesting to study exact solutions of Sobolev-type equations. In the present paper, a fourth order nonlinear partial equation is studied. Three classes of its exact solutions are built. They are expressed in terms of special functions (solutions of some ordinary differential equations). For two of these classes subsets that can be expressed in elementary functions are built, for the third one subsets that can be described in elementary functions and an implicit function (without a quadrature) are built.

In this paper, we prove the weak convergence of a modified extragradient algorithm for solving a variational inequality problem involving a pseudomonotone operator in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. Moreover, we establish further the R-linear rate of the convergence of the proposed algorithm with the assumption of error bound. Several numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the convergence behaviour of the new algorithm in comparisons with others. The results obtained in the paper have extended some recent results in the literature.

In this paper, by using lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms of algebraic numbers and the theory of continued fractions, we find all Fibonacci numbers that appear in generalized Pell sequences. Some interesting estimations involving generalized Pell numbers, that we believe are of independent interest, are also deduced. This paper continues a previous work that searched for Fibonacci numbers in the Pell sequence.

This paper aims to discuss the mathematical details in Lewis’ model by considering the analyticity and integrability conditions of characteristic functions and payoff functions of contingent claims. In his seminal paper, Lewis shows that it is much easier to compute the option value in the Fourier space than computing in terminal security price space. He computes the option value as an integral in the Fourier space, the integrand being some elementary functions and the characteristic functions of a wide range of Levy processes. The model also illustrates how the residue calculus leads to several variations of option formulas through the contour integrals. In this paper, we provide with, to a reasonable extent, some rigor into the mathematical background of Lewis’ model and validate his results for particular Levy processes. We also simply give the analyticity conditions for the characteristic function of the Carr–Geman–Madan–Yor model and a simple derivation of the characteristic function of Kou’s double exponential model.

Quantitative analysis of the flow field is an effective method to study hydrodynamics. As a flow field measurement technology, the Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) is widely used. However, it is difficult to measure the complex transparent flow field (flow field with large refractive index gradient) using the BOS experiment. In order to overcome this difficulty and improve the accuracy of the BOS experiment, this paper presents a hybrid adaptive wavelet-based optical flow algorithm for the BOS. The current algorithm is a combination of the traditional optical flow algorithm and the wavelet-based optical flow algorithm. By adding the initial value constraints, the adaptive scale constraints, and the adaptive regularization constraints, the algorithm can effectively overcome the above-mentioned difficulty and also improve its accuracy. To further illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method, this paper uses the simulation data, the data of the DNS datasets, and the data of the BOS experiment to verify the performance of the algorithm. The experiment of comparing the proposed algorithm with the existing ones is carried out on the DNS datasets and the data of the BOS experiment. Finally, the proposed method is verified by a practical BOS experiment. The results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the measurement accuracy of displacements.

In this paper, we investigate carefully the blow-up behaviour of sequences of solutions of some elliptic PDE in dimension two containing a nonlinearity with Trudinger-Moser growth. A quantification result had been obtained by the first author in [15] but many questions were left open. Similar questions were also explicitly asked in subsequent papers, see Del Pino-Musso-Ruf [12], Malchiodi-Martinazzi [30] or Martinazzi [34]. We answer all of them, proving in particular that blow up phenomenon is very restrictive because of the strong interaction between bubbles in this equation. This work will have a sequel, giving existence results of critical points of the associated functional at all energy levels via degree theory arguments, in the spirit of what had been done for the Liouville equation in the beautiful work of Chen-Lin [8].

We show that the phase tropical pair-of-pants is (ambient) isotopic to the complex pair-of-pants. This paper can serve as an addendum to the author's joint paper with Ruddat arXiv:2001.08267 where an isotopy between complex and ober-tropical pairs-of-pants was shown. Special units are a sort of predecessor of Euler systems, and they are mainly used to obtain annihilators for class groups. So one is interested in finding as many special units as possible (actually we use a technical generalization called “semispecial”). In this paper we show that in any abelian field having a real genus field in the narrow sense all Washington units are semispecial, and that a slightly weaker statement holds true for all abelian fields. The group of Washington units is very often larger than Sinnott’s group of cyclotomic units. In a companion paper we will show that in concrete families of abelian fields the group of Washington units is much larger than that of Sinnott units, by giving lower bounds on the index. Combining this with the present paper gives strong annihilation results.

This paper is concerned with optimal error estimates and recovery technique of a classical mixed finite element method for the thermistor problem, which is governed by a parabolic/elliptic system with strong nonlinearity and coupling. The method is based on a popular combination of the lowest-order Raviart–Thomas mixed approximation for the electric potential/field $(\phi , \boldsymbol{\theta })$ and the linear Lagrange approximation for the temperature $u$. A common question is how the first-order approximation influences the accuracy of the second-order approximation to the temperature in such a strongly coupled system, while previous work only showed the first-order accuracy $O(h)$ for all three components in a traditional way. In this paper, we prove that the method produces the optimal second-order accuracy $O(h^2)$ for $u$ in the spatial direction, although the accuracy for the potential/field is in the order of $O(h)$. And more importantly, we propose a simple one-step recovery technique to obtain a new numerical electric potential/field of second-order accuracy. The analysis presented in this paper relies on an $H^{-1}$-norm estimate of the mixed finite element methods and analysis on a nonclassical elliptic map. We provide numerical experiments in both two- and three-dimensional spaces to confirm our theoretical analyses.

In this paper, we provide the boundedness property of the Riesz transforms associated to the Schrodinger operator $${\cal L} = \Delta + {\bf{V}}$$ in a new weighted Morrey space which is the generalized version of many previous Morrey type spaces. The additional potential V considered in this paper is a non-negative function satisfying the suitable reverse Holder’s inequality. Our results are new and general in many cases of problems. As an application of the boundedness property of these singular integral operators, we obtain some regularity results of solutions to Schrodinger equations in the new Morrey space.

The relations ‘‘between’’, ‘‘cycle’’, and ‘‘separation’’ were defined through the relation of linear order in the classical paper of Edward V. Huntington. In the current paper, the criteria for preserving these relations under injective mappings are obtained.

In this paper we study a new problem for a parabolic-hyperbolic equation with fractional order Caputo operator in rectangular domain. There are many works devoted to study problems for the second order mixed parabolic-hyperbolic and elliptic-hyperbolic type equations in rectangular domains with two gluing conditions with respect to second argument and with boundary value conditions on all borders of the domain. In studying the unique solvability of this problem, it becomes necessary to specify an additional condition on the hyperbolic boundary of the domain. For this reason, the considering problem became unresolved in an arbitrary rectangular domain. In this paper, we were able to remove this restriction by setting three gluing conditions for the second argument.

In this paper, we first use the distribution of the number of records to demonstrate that the right tail probabilities of counts of rare events are generally better approximated by the right tail probabilities of Poisson distribution than {those} of normal distribution. We then show the moderate deviations in Poisson approximation generally require an adjustment and, with suitable adjustment, we establish better error estimates of the moderate deviations in Poisson approximation than those in \cite{CFS}. Our estimates contain no unspecified constants and are easy to apply. We illustrate the use of the theorems in six applications: Poisson-binomial distribution, matching problem, occupancy problem, birthday problem, random graphs and 2-runs. The work is devoted to the fundamental problem of studying the solvability of the initial-boundary value problem for a pseudo-parabolic equation (also called Sobolev type equations) with a fairly smooth boundary. In this paper, the initial-boundary value problem for a quasilinear equation of a pseudoparabolic type with a nonlinear Neumann–Dirichlet boundary condition is studied. From a physical point of view, the initial-boundary-value problem we are considering is a mathematical model of quasi-stationary processes in semiconductors and magnetics, taking into account the most diverse physical factors. Many approximate methods are suitable for finding eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of tasks boundary conditions of which are linear with respect to the function and its derivatives. Among these methods, Galerkin’s method leads to the simplest calculations. In the paper, by means of the Galerkin method the existence of a weak solution of a pseudoparabolic equation in a bounded domain is proved. The use of the Galerkin approximations allows us to get an estimate above the time of the solution existence. Using Sobolev ’s attachment theorem, a priori solution estimates are obtained. The local theorem of the existence of the solution has been proved. The uniqueness of the weak generalized solution of the initial-boundary value problem of quasi-linear equations of pseudoparabolic type is proved on the basis of a priori estimates.A special place in the theory of nonlinear equations is taken by the range of studies of unlimited solutions, or, as they are otherwise called, modes with exacerbation. Nonlinear evolutionary problems that allow unlimited solutions are globally intractable: solutions increase indefinitely over a finite period of time. Sufficient conditions have been obtained for the destruction of its solution over finite time in a limited area with a nonlinear Neumann–Dirichle boundary condition.

In the present paper, we obtain a Halanay inequality on time scales with unbounded coefficient for a dynamic problem, which extends a result of Wen et al. (J. Math. Anal. Appl., 347 (2008), 169–178.) to the inequality of integral type on time scales. Moreover, we list two dynamic problems to which the Halanay inequality obtained above can be applied and prove the zero solution of two delay dynamic problems are asymptotically stable. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the Halanay inequality obtained in the present paper is more precise than the results in [3, 14, 17].

A Cohen-Macaulay local ring $R$ satisfies trivial vanishing if $\operatorname{Tor}_i^R(M,N)=0$ for all large $i$ implies $M$ or $N$ has finite projective dimension. If $R$ satisfies trivial vanishing then we also have that $\operatorname{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0$ for all large $i$ implies $M$ has finite projective dimension or $N$ has finite injective dimension. In this paper, we establish obstructions for the failure of trivial vanishing in terms of the asymptotic growth of the Betti and Bass numbers of the modules involved. These, together with a result of Gasharov and Peeva, provide sufficient conditions for $R$ to satisfy trivial vanishing; we provide sharpened conditions when $R$ is generalized Golod. Our methods allow us to settle the Auslander-Reiten conjecture in several new cases. In the last part of the paper, we provide criteria for the Gorenstein property based on consecutive vanishing of Ext. The latter results improve similar statements due to Ulrich, Hanes-Huneke, and Jorgensen-Leuschke., to appear in Trans. Amer. Math. Soc

In this paper, we introduce a new family of generalized blending-type bivariate Bernstein operators which depends on four parameters $$s_{1}$$ , $$s_{2}$$ , $$\alpha _{1}$$ and $$\alpha _{2}$$ . Approximation properties of these operators are studied, and we obtain the rate of convergence in terms of mixed and partial modulus of continuities. Moreover, we prove a Korovkin- and a Voronovskaja-type theorems for these operators. The last part of the paper is devoted to the associated GBS operators. In this part, we study degree of approximation of the GBS operators in terms of mixed modulus of continuity. GBS operators obtained here give better approximation than the original operators to the function f(x, y). Finally, approximation properties of the suggested operators and their associated GBS operators are discussed on graphs, for some numerical examples to show how GBS operator gives better approximation to f(x, y). Also, approximation properties of the suggested operators for different values of parameters $$s_{1}$$ , $$s_{2}$$ , $$\alpha _{1}$$ and $$\alpha _{2}$$ are illustrated on graphs. It should be mentioned that any increase in $$\alpha _{i}$$ values or any decrease in $$s_{i}$$ values gives better approximation of the suggested operators to f(x, y).

Suppose that $G$ is a simple reductive group over $\mathbf{Q}$, with an exceptional Dynkin type and with $G(\mathbf{R})$ quaternionic (in the sense of Gross–Wallach). In a previous paper, we gave an explicit form of the Fourier expansion of modular forms on $G$ along the unipotent radical of the Heisenberg parabolic. In this paper, we give the Fourier expansion of the minimal modular form $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}_{Gan}$ on quaternionic $E_{8}$ and some applications. The $Sym^{8}(V_{2})$-valued automorphic function $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}_{Gan}$ is a weight 4, level one modular form on $E_{8}$, which has been studied by Gan. The applications we give are the construction of special modular forms on quaternionic $E_{7},E_{6}$ and $G_{2}$. We also discuss a family of degenerate Heisenberg Eisenstein series on the groups $G$, which may be thought of as an analogue to the quaternionic exceptional groups of the holomorphic Siegel Eisenstein series on the groups $\operatorname{GSp}_{2n}$.

In this paper we revisit the problem of performing a $QZ$ step with a so-called ‘perfect shift’, which is an ‘exact’ eigenvalue of a given regular pencil $\lambda B-A$ in unreduced Hessenberg triangular form. In exact arithmetic, the $QZ$ step moves that eigenvalue to the bottom of the pencil, while the rest of the pencil is maintained in Hessenberg triangular form, which then yields a deflation of the given eigenvalue. But in finite precision the $QZ$ step gets ‘blurred’ and precludes the deflation of the given eigenvalue. In this paper we show that when we first compute the corresponding eigenvector to sufficient accuracy, then the $QZ$ step can be constructed using this eigenvector, so that the deflation is also obtained in finite precision. An important application of this technique is the computation of the index of a system of differential algebraic equations, since an exact deflation of the infinite eigenvalues is needed to impose correctly the algebraic constraints of such differential equations.

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of solutions for a class of equations involving a nonlocal term and the biharmonic operator with critical exponent. By new techniques, multiplicity results are established together with variational method. It is worth noting that the method of this paper is obviously different from the existing literature.

This paper proposes a new class of difference methods with intrinsic parallelism for solving the Burgers–Fisher equation. A new class of parallel difference schemes of pure alternating segment explicit-implicit (PASE-I) and pure alternating segment implicit-explicit (PASI-E) are constructed by taking simple classical explicit and implicit schemes, combined with the alternating segment technique. The existence, uniqueness, linear absolute stability, and convergence for the solutions of PASE-I and PASI-E schemes are well illustrated. Both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show that PASE-I and PASI-E schemes are linearly absolute stable, with 2-order time accuracy and 2-order spatial accuracy. Compared with the implicit scheme and the Crank–Nicolson (C-N) scheme, the computational efficiency of the PASE-I (PASI-E) scheme is greatly improved. The PASE-I and PASI-E schemes have obvious parallel computing properties, which show that the difference methods with intrinsic parallelism in this paper are feasible to solve the Burgers–Fisher equation.

This paper relates to a recent trend in complex differential equations which studies solutions in a given domain. The classical settings in complex equations were widely studied for meromorphic solutions in the complex plane. For functions in the complex plane, we have a lot of results of general nature, in particular, the classical value distributions theory describing numbers of a-points. Many of these results do not work for functions in a given domain. A recent principle of derivatives permits us to study the numbers of Ahlfors simple islands for functions in a given domain; the islands play, to some extend, a role similar to that of the numbers of simple a-points. In this paper, we consider a large class of higher order differential equations admitting meromorphic solutions in a given domain. Applying the principle of derivatives, we get the upper bounds for the numbers of Ahlfors simple islands of similar solutions.

In the present paper we study the so-called sampling Kantorovich operators in the very general setting of modular spaces. Here, modular convergence theorems are proved under suitable assumptions, together with a modular inequality for the above operators. Further, we study applications of such approximation results in several concrete cases, such as Musielak–Orlicz and Orlicz spaces. As a consequence of these results we obtain convergence theorems in the classical and weighted versions of the $$L^p$$ L p and Zygmund (or interpolation) spaces. At the end of the paper examples of kernels for the above operators are presented.

Projective varieties with ample cotangent bundle satisfy many notions of hyperbolicity, and one goal of this paper is to discuss generalizations to quasi-projective varieties. A major hurdle is that the naive generalization fails, i.e. the log cotangent bundle is never ample. Instead, we define a notion called almost ample which roughly asks that the log cotangent is as positive as possible. We show that all subvarieties of a quasi-projective variety with almost ample log cotangent bundle are of log general type. In addition, if one assumes globally generated then we obtain that such varieties contain finitely many integral points. In another direction, we show that the Lang-Vojta conjecture implies the number of stably integral points on curves of log general type, and surfaces of log general type with almost ample log cotangent sheaf are uniformly bounded., v5: exposition greatly improved. The subject of the paper is suggested by G. Janelidze and motivated by his earlier result giving a positive answer to the question posed by S. MacLane whether the Galois theory of homogeneous linear ordinary differential equations over a differential field (which is Kolchin–Ritt theory and an algebraic version of Picard–Vessiot theory) can be obtained as a particular case of G. Janelidze’s Galois theory in categories. One ground category in the Galois structure involved in this theory is dual to the category of commutative rings with unit, and another one is dual to the category of commutative differential rings with unit. In the present paper, we apply the general categorical construction, the particular case of which gives this Galois structure, by replacing “commutative rings with unit” by algebras from any variety V \mathscr{V} of universal algebras satisfying the amalgamation property and a certain condition (of the syntactical nature) for elements of amalgamated free products which was introduced earlier, and replacing “commutative differential rings with unit” by V \mathscr{V} -algebras equipped with additional unary operations which satisfy some special identities to construct a new Galois structure. It is proved that this Galois structure is admissible. Moreover, normal extensions with respect to it are characterized in the case where V \mathscr{V} is any of the following varieties: abelian groups, loops and quasigroups.

The aim of the present paper is to establish four theorems connecting Stieltjes transform and Hankel transform. By applications of the theorems established in this paper four new integral formulae involving special functions are obtained. Due to the general nature of the theorems established in this paper, several other integrals involving special functions may be evaluated.

In their remarkable paper, Fazli et al. (Int J Comput Math, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1080/00207160.2019.1658870 ) have recently established existence results for fractional Basset–Boussinesq–Oseen equation in an appropriate partially ordered Banach space. In this paper, we improve this study by proposing different approach that provides existence criterion for the addressed equation. The main assumptions are less restrictive and easily verifiable. Examples with graphical representations are constructed to demonstrate consistency to theoretical findings. Besides, we construct an iterative sequence that converges to the unique solution. We end the paper by a conclusion that demonstrates the advantage of our theorem compared to the previous results.

Attenuation is widespread in the Earth’s interior. However, there are several models where viscoelastic formations comprise as few as 10 to 20 % of the volume. They include near-surface and sea-bottom formation due to the low consolidation of the sediments, oil and gas reservoirs due to fluid saturation, etc. At the same time, the major part of the medium is ideally elastic. In this situation, the use of computationally intense approaches for the viscoelastic materials throughout the computational domain is prodigal. So this paper presents an original finite-difference algorithm based on the domain decomposition technique with the individual scheme used inside subdomains. It means that the standard staggered grid scheme approximating the ideally elastic model is used in the main part of the model. In contrast, the attenuation-oriented scheme is utilized inside viscoelastic domains. As the real-size simulations are applied in parallel via domain decomposition technique, this means that the elementary domains assigned to a single core (node) should be different for elastic and viscoelastic parts of the model. The optimal domain decomposition technique minimizing the computational time (core-hours) is suggested in the paper. It is proved analytically and confirmed numerically that for the models with up to 25% of viscoelasticity, the speed-up of the hybrid algorithm is about 1.7 in comparison with purely viscoelastic simulation.

Modern vector architectures are tend to be equipped with high-bandwidth memory, what makes them an interesting candidate for solving large-scale graph processing problems. However, highly irregular structure of real-world graphs makes it extremely challenging to map fundamental graph-processing problems on vector systems. This paper describes the world-first attempt, aimed to create efficient vector- friendly implementations of various connected components algorithms for modern NEC SX-Aurora TSUBASA architecture, which provides high performance computational power together with a world-highest bandwidth memory. In order to develop fast implementations, supercomputer co-design principles are used, including: the selection of vector-friendly graph algorithms, adapting these algorithms for target architecture, selecting vectorized graph storage format and applying various optimisations aimed to improve the efficiency of using memory hierarchy of target platform. In addition, current paper analyses if similar implementation approaches can be used for modern NVIDIA GPU architectures, which have many common properties and features with SX-Aurora TSUBASA. Finally, a comprehensive comparative performance analysis is presented for all algorithms, architectures and optimisations, discussed in the paper.

This paper studies the steady-state properties of the join-the-shortest-queue model in the Halfin–Whitt regime. We focus on the process tracking the number of idle servers and the number of servers with nonempty buffers. Recently, Eschenfeldt and Gamarnik proved that a scaled version of this process converges, over finite time intervals, to a two-dimensional diffusion limit as the number of servers goes to infinity. In this paper, we prove that the diffusion limit is exponentially ergodic and that the diffusion scaled sequence of the steady-state number of idle servers and nonempty buffers is tight. Combined with the process-level convergence proved by Eschenfeldt and Gamarnik, our results imply convergence of steady-state distributions. The methodology used is the generator expansion framework based on Stein’s method, also referred to as the drift-based fluid limit Lyapunov function approach in Stolyar. One technical contribution to the framework is to show how it can be used as a general tool to establish exponential ergodicity.

The related quotient module is denoted by Nψ,ϕ = H2(ⅅ2) ⊖ Mψ,ϕ. In this paper, we give a complete characterization for the essential normality of Nψ,ϕ. In particular, if ψ(z)= z, we simply write Mψ,ϕ and Nψ,ϕ as Mϕ and Nϕ respectively. This paper also studies compactness of evaluation operators L(0)∣nϕ and R(0)ϕnϕ, essential spectrum of compression operator Sz on Nϕ, essential normality of compression operators Sz and Sw on Nϕ.

It is well known that when the geometry and/or coefficients allow stable trapped rays, the solution operator of the Helmholtz equation (a.k.a. the resolvent of the Laplacian) grows exponentially through a sequence of real frequencies tending to infinity. In this paper we show that, even in the presence of the strongest-possible trapping, if a set of frequencies of arbitrarily small measure is excluded, the Helmholtz solution operator grows at most polynomially as the frequency tends to infinity. One significant application of this result is in the convergence analysis of several numerical methods for solving the Helmholtz equation at high frequency that are based on a polynomial-growth assumption on the solution operator (e.g. $hp$-finite elements, $hp$-boundary elements, certain multiscale methods). The result of this paper shows that this assumption holds, even in the presence of the strongest-possible trapping, for most frequencies.

In this paper, we study noncommutative surface singularities arising from orders. The singularities we study are mild in the sense that they have finite representation type or, equivalently, are log terminal in the sense of the Mori minimal model program for orders (Chan and Ingalls in Invent Math 161(2):427–452, 2005). These were classified independently by Artin (in terms of ramification data) and Reiten–Van den Bergh (in terms of their AR-quivers). The first main goal of this paper is to connect these two classifications, by going through the finite subgroups $$G \subset {{{\,\mathrm{GL}\,}}_2}$$ , explicitly computing $$H^2(G,k^*)$$ , and then matching these up with Artin’s list of ramification data and Reiten–Van den Bergh’s AR-quivers. This provides a semi-independent proof of their classifications and extends the study of canonical orders in Chan et al. (Proc Lond Math Soc (3) 98(1):83–115, 2009) to the case of log terminal orders. A secondary goal of this paper is to study noncommutative analogues of plane curves which arise as follows. Let $$B = k_{\zeta } \llbracket x,y \rrbracket $$ be the skew power series ring where $$\zeta $$ is a root of unity, or more generally a terminal order over a complete local ring. We consider rings of the form $$A = B/(f)$$ where $$f \in Z(B)$$ which we interpret to be the ring of functions on a noncommutative plane curve. We classify those noncommutative plane curves which are of finite representation type and compute their AR-quivers.
