Continuity and interpolation have been crucial topics for computer graphics since its very beginnings. Every time we want to interpolate values across some area, we need to take a set of samples over that interpolating region. However, interpolating samples faithfully allowing the results to closely match the underlying functions can be a tricky task as the functions to sample could not be smooth and, in the worst case, it could be even impossible when they are not continuous. In those situations bringing the required continuity is not an easy task, and much work has been done to solve this problem. In this paper, we focus on the state of the art in continuity and interpolation in three stages of the real-time rendering pipeline. We study these problems and their current solutions in texture space (2D), object space (3D) and screen space. With this review of the literature in these areas, we hope to bring new light and foster research in these fundamental, yet not completely solved problems in computer graphics We would like to thank the people that helped this work to become true, in particular the ViRVIG-GGG members. This article describes an accurate method to obtain the tone reproduction curve of display devices without using a measurement device. It is an improvement of an existing technique based on human observation, solving its problem of numerical instability and resulting in functions in log - log scale which correspond better to the nature of display devices. Instrumentation and control engineers go to great lengths to ensure availability and operability of control and information display systems for process system operation, especially for safety systems. It is critically important to maintain equipment performance within the bounds of safe operation. The most crucial safety components in your facility are the human beings controlling, maintaining, monitoring, and managing the process and equipment. Have you ever given much thought to the control systems operated by humans in your facility?

Different quality metrics have been proposed in the literature to evaluate how well a visualization represents the underlying data. In this paper, we present a new information-theoretic framework that quantifies the information transfer between the source data set and the rendered image. This approach is based on the definition of an observation channel whose input and output are given by the intensity values of the volumetric data set and the pixel colors, respectively. From this channel, the mutual information, a measure of information transfer or correlation between the input and the output, is used as a metric to evaluate the visualization quality. The usefulness of the proposed observation channel is illustrated with three fundamental visualization applications: selection of informative viewpoints, transfer function design, and light positioning This work has been funded in part by grants from the Spanish Government (Nr. The Thin-film Micromirror Array (TMA) is a new reflective type spatial light modulator fabricated with the optical microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technology. A working projector prototype of 5,400 true ANSI lumen was presented at the Asian Display 1998 with three VGA format TMA modules and a 1 kW Xenon lamp. The prototype showed the optical efficiency of 22%, which was the highest optical efficiency among all the reflective and transmissive light modulators in the world. For the commercial projectors, XGA f mat TMA is under development. The size of a micromirror of VGA format TMA is 97 μm by 97 μm while the size of eaxh micromirror of XGA format TMA is 50 μm by 50 μm. Efforts have been made to maintain the optical efficiency of the XGA TMA projector same as that of the VGA TMA projector. TMA projector prototype is brighter than any competing technology projectors in the world at the same lamp power, at least three times or more. The simplicity of the underlying principle and the highest optical efficiency of TMA enables high-brightness and cost competitive projection displays which has been a dream in the past.

This paper gives a comparative overview of information display systems for automobiles. It first discusses the requires that an automobile places upon display technology. It then discusses the advantages of electronic displays such as LED, vacuum fluorescent, twisted nematic LCD, and larger passive matrix and active matrix LCD. The paper notes that the coming wave of mobile computing with multimedia products will hasten the need for reconfigurable, full color displays in greater array sizes.

This paper looks at automotive display requirements, with an emphasis on the European situation. It also reviews candidate display technologies.
