This paper deals with Schrodinger operators as they were treated by Kato - Ikebe [3]. It is shown that every element of the domain of definition of the adjoint of such an operator has locally square integrable distributional derivatives up to the order 2. For this the potential of the Schrodinger operator must fulfil a local Stummel condition; if the potential is only locally square integrable a somewhat weaker statement is possible for three dimensions (see remark 2 at the end of this paper).

Månsson and Shukur (Econ Model 28:1475–1481, 2011) proposed a Poisson ridge regression estimator (PRRE) to reduce the negative effects of multicollinearity. However, a weakness of the PRRE is its relatively large bias. Therefore, as a remedy, Türkan and Özel (J Appl Stat 43:1892–1905, 2016) examined the performance of almost unbiased ridge estimators for the Poisson regression model. These estimators will not only reduce the consequences of multicollinearity but also decrease the bias of PRRE and thus perform more efficiently. The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to derive the mean square error properties of the Modified Almost Unbiased PRRE (MAUPRRE) and Almost Unbiased PRRE (AUPRRE) and then propose new ridge estimators for MAUPRRE and AUPRRE. Secondly, to compare the performance of the MAUPRRE with the AUPRRE, PRRE and maximum likelihood estimator. Using both simulation study and real-world dataset from the Swedish football league, it is evidenced that one of the proposed, MAUPRRE ($$ \hat{k}_{q4} $$ k ^ q 4 ) performed better than the rest in the presence of high to strong (0.80–0.99) multicollinearity situation.

We propose a complete-search algorithm for solving a class of non-convex, possibly infinite-dimensional, optimization problems to global optimality. We assume that the optimization variables are in a bounded subset of a Hilbert space, and we determine worst-case run-time bounds for the algorithm under certain regularity conditions of the cost functional and the constraint set. In this short paper we study the d-Hermite condition about stably free modules for skew $$\textit{PBW}$$ extensions. For this purpose, we estimate the stable rank of these non-commutative rings. In addition, and closely related with these questions, we will prove Kronecker’s theorem about the radical of finitely generated ideals for some particular types of skew $$\textit{PBW}$$ extensions.

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the energy-critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation $$i\partial _{t}u+\Delta u=\lambda |x|^{-\alpha }|u|^{\beta }u$$ in $$H^1$$ . The well-posedness theory in $$H^1$$ has been intensively studied in recent years, but the currently known approaches do not work for the critical case $$\beta =(4-2\alpha )/(n-2)$$ . It is still an open problem. The main contribution of this paper is to develop the theory in this case.

A classical theorem of Koksma states that for Lebesgue almost every $x>1$ the sequence $(x^n)_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is uniformly distributed modulo one. In the present paper we extend Koksma's theorem to the pair correlation setting. More precisely, we show that for Lebesgue almost every $x>1$ the pair correlations of the fractional parts of $(x^n)_{n=1}^{\infty}$ are asymptotically Poissonian. In this paper, we study an extension of the split equality equilibrium problem called the extended split equality equilibrium problem. We give an iterative algorithm for approximating a solution of extended split equality equilibrium and fixed point problems and obtained a strong convergence result in a real Hilbert space. We further applied our result to solve extended split equality monotone variational inclusion and equilibrium problems. The result of this paper complements and extends results on split equality equilibrium problems in the literature.

In this paper, we provide the boundedness property of the Riesz transforms associated to the Schrodinger operator $${\cal L} = \Delta + {\bf{V}}$$ in a new weighted Morrey space which is the generalized version of many previous Morrey type spaces. The additional potential V considered in this paper is a non-negative function satisfying the suitable reverse Holder’s inequality. Our results are new and general in many cases of problems. As an application of the boundedness property of these singular integral operators, we obtain some regularity results of solutions to Schrodinger equations in the new Morrey space.

Recently, the authors have established $$L^p$$ -boundedness of vector-valued q-variational inequalities for averaging operators which take values in the Banach space satisfying the martingale cotype q property in Hong and Ma (Math Z 286(1–2):89–120, 2017). In this paper, we prove that the martingale cotype q property is also necessary for the vector-valued q-variational inequalities, which was a question left open in the previous paper. Moreover, we also prove that the UMD property and the martingale cotype q property can be characterized in terms of vector valued q-variational inequalities for the Hilbert transform.

The basic aim of this paper is to provide a fundamental tool, the resolvent decomposition theorem, in the construction theory of denumerable Markov processes. We present a detailed analytic proof of this extremely useful tool and explain its clear probabilistic interpretation. We then apply this tool to investigate the basic problems of existence and uniqueness criteria for denumerable Markov processes with instantaneous states to which few results have been obtained even until now. Although the complete answers regarding these existence and uniqueness criteria will be given in a subsequent paper, we shall, in this paper, present part solutions of these very important problems that are closely linked with the subtle Williams S and N conditions.

We prove a new effective Chebotarev density theorem for Galois extensions $L/\mathbb{Q}$ that allows one to count small primes (even as small as an arbitrarily small power of the discriminant of $L$); this theorem holds for the Galois closures of "almost all" number fields that lie in an appropriate family of field extensions. Previously, applying Chebotarev in such small ranges required assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis. The error term in this new Chebotarev density theorem also avoids the effect of an exceptional zero of the Dedekind zeta function of $L$, without assuming GRH. We give many different "appropriate families," including families of arbitrarily large degree. To do this, we first prove a new effective Chebotarev density theorem that requires a zero-free region of the Dedekind zeta function. Then we prove that almost all number fields in our families yield such a zero-free region. The innovation that allows us to achieve this is a delicate new method for controlling zeroes of certain families of non-cuspidal $L$-functions. This builds on, and greatly generalizes the applicability of, work of Kowalski and Michel on the average density of zeroes of a family of cuspidal $L$-functions. A surprising feature of this new method, which we expect will have independent interest, is that we control the number of zeroes in the family of $L$-functions by bounding the number of certain associated fields with fixed discriminant. As an application of the new Chebotarev density theorem, we prove the first nontrivial upper bounds for $\ell$-torsion in class groups, for all integers $\ell \geq 1$, applicable to infinite families of fields of arbitrarily large degree., Comment: 52 pages. International audience; This article is the continuation of our first work on the determination of the cases where there is equality in Courant's Nodal Domain theorem in the case of a Robin boundary condition (with Robin parameter h). For the square, our first paper focused on the case where h is large and extended results that were obtained by Pleijel, Bérard-Helffer, for the problem with a Dirichlet boundary condition. There, we also obtained some general results about the behaviour of the nodal structure (for planar domains) under a small deformation of h, where h is positive and not close to 0. In this second paper, we extend results that were obtained by Helffer-Persson-Sundqvist for the Neumann problem to the case where h > 0 is small. MSC classification (2010): 35P99, 58J50, 58J37.

The paper is devoted to one open extremal problem in the geometric function theory of complex variables associated with estimates of a functional defined on the systems of non-overlapping domains. We consider the problem of the maximum of a product of inner radii of n non-overlapping domains containing points of a unit circle and the power γ of the inner radius of a domain containing the origin. The problem was formulated in 1994 in Dubinin’s paper in the journal “Russian Mathematical Surveys” in the list of unsolved problems and then repeated in his monograph in 2014. Currently, it is not solved in general. In this paper, we obtained a solution of the problem for five simply connected domains and power γ ∈ (1; 2:57] and generalized this result to the case of multidimensional complex space.

The variance-gamma (VG) distributions form a four-parameter family that includes as special and limiting cases the normal, gamma and Laplace distributions. Some of the numerous applications include financial modelling and approximation on Wiener space. Recently, Stein’s method has been extended to the VG distribution. However, technical difficulties have meant that bounds for distributional approximations have only been given for smooth test functions (typically requiring at least two derivatives for the test function). In this paper, which deals with symmetric variance-gamma (SVG) distributions, and a companion paper (Gaunt 2018), which deals with the whole family of VG distributions, we address this issue. In this paper, we obtain new bounds for the derivatives of the solution of the SVG Stein equation, which allow for approximations to be made in the Kolmogorov and Wasserstein metrics, and also introduce a distributional transformation that is natural in the context of SVG approximation. We apply this theory to obtain Wasserstein or Kolmogorov error bounds for SVG approximation in four settings: comparison of VG and SVG distributions, SVG approximation of functionals of isonormal Gaussian processes, SVG approximation of a statistic for binary sequence comparison, and Laplace approximation of a random sum of independent mean zero random variables.

Sampling in shift-invariant spaces is a realistic model for signals with smooth spectrum. In this paper, we consider phaseless sampling and reconstruction of real-valued signals in a high-dimensional shift-invariant space from their magnitude measurements on the whole Euclidean space and from their phaseless samples taken on a discrete set with finite sampling density. The determination of a signal in a shift-invariant space, up to a sign, by its magnitude measurements on the whole Euclidean space has been shown in the literature to be equivalent to its nonseparability. In this paper, we introduce an undirected graph associated with the signal in a shift-invariant space and use connectivity of the graph to characterize nonseparability of the signal. Under the local complement property assumption on a shift-invariant space, we find a discrete set with finite sampling density such that nonseparable signals in the shift-invariant space can be reconstructed in a stable way from their phaseless samples taken on that set. In this paper, we also propose a reconstruction algorithm which provides an approximation to the original signal when its noisy phaseless samples are available only. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed algorithm to reconstruct box spline signals from their noisy phaseless samples.

In this paper we analyse the structure of the spaces of smooth type functions, generated by elements of arbitrary Hilbert spaces, as a continuation of the research in our previous papers in this series. We prove that these spaces are perfect sequence spaces. As a consequence we describe the tensor structure of sequential mappings on the spaces of smooth type functions and characterise their adjoint mappings. As an application we prove the universality of the spaces of smooth type functions on compact manifolds without boundary., 23 pages

In two papers, Bürgisser and Ikenmeyer (STOC 2011, STOC 2013) used an adaption of the geometric complexity theory (GCT) approach by Mulmuley and Sohoni (Siam J Comput 2001, 2008) to prove lower bounds on the border rank of the matrix multiplication tensor. A key ingredient was information about certain Kronecker coefficients. While tensors are an interesting test bed for GCT ideas, the far-away goal is the separation of algebraic complexity classes. The role of the Kronecker coefficients in that setting is taken by the so-called plethysm coefficients: These are the multiplicities in the coordinate rings of spaces of polynomials. Even though several hardness results for Kronecker coefficients are known, there are almost no results about the complexity of computing the plethysm coefficients or even deciding their positivity.In this paper, we show that deciding positivity of plethysm coefficients is -hard and that computing plethysm coefficients is #-hard. In fact, both problems remain hard even if the inner parameter of the plethysm coefficient is fixed. In this way, we obtain an inner versus outer contrast: If the outer parameter of the plethysm coefficient is fixed, then the plethysm coefficient can be computed in polynomial time. Moreover, we derive new lower and upper bounds and in special cases even combinatorial descriptions for plethysm coefficients, which we consider to be of independent interest. Our technique uses discrete tomography in a more refined way than the recent work on Kronecker coefficients by Ikenmeyer, Mulmuley, and Walter (Comput Compl 2017). This makes our work the first to apply techniques from discrete tomography to the study of plethysm coefficients. Quite surprisingly, that interpretation also leads to new equalities between certain plethysm coefficients and Kronecker coefficients.

The link between Vandiver’s conjecture and Gauss sums is well known since the papers of Iwasawa (Symposia Mathematica, vol 15, Academic Press, pp 447–459, 1975), Thaine (Mich Math J 42(2):311–344, 1995; Trans Am Math Soc 351(12):4769–4790, 1999) and Angles and Nuccio (Acta Arith 142(3):199–218, 2010). This conjecture is required in many subjects and we shall give such examples of relevant references. In this paper, we recall our interpretation of Vandiver’s conjecture in terms of minus part of the torsion of the Galois group of the maximal abelian p-ramified pro-p-extension of the p-th cyclotomic field (Sur la p-ramification abelienne (1984) vol. 20, pp. 1–26). Then we provide a specific use of Gauss sums of characters of order p of $${\mathbb {F}}_\ell ^\times $$ and prove new criteria for Vandiver’s conjecture to hold (Theorem 2 (a) using both the sets of exponents of p-irregularity and of p-primarity of suitable twists of the Gauss sums, and Theorem 2 (b) which does not need the knowledge of Bernoulli numbers or cyclotomic units). We propose in §5.2 new heuristics showing that any counterexample to the conjecture leads to excessive constraints modulo p on the above twists as $$\ell $$ varies and suggests analytical approaches to evidence. We perform numerical experiments to strengthen our arguments in the direction of the very probable truth of Vandiver’s conjecture and to inspire future research. The calculations with their PARI/GP programs are given in appendices.

In this paper, we show the existence of a weak solution to the Maxwell–Stokes type equation with a potential satisfying the Dirichlet condition, under the hypothesis that the domain has no holes, using a version of the de Rham lemma that was proved in our previous paper. We also give the regularity of weak solutions.

This is a continuation of our previous paper [14]. In [14], we introduced the first Aeppli–Chern class on compact complex manifolds, and proved that the (1, 1) curvature form of the Levi–Civita connection represents the first Aeppli–Chern class which is a natural link between Riemannian geometry and complex geometry. In this paper, we study the geometry of compact complex manifolds with Levi–Civita Ricci-flat metrics and classify minimal complex surfaces with Levi–Civita Ricci-flat metrics. More precisely, we show that minimal complex surfaces admitting Levi–Civita Ricci-flat metrics are Kahler Calabi–Yau surfaces and Hopf surfaces.

In this paper our aim is to show some new inequalities of the Redheffer type for Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind. The key tools in our proofs are some classical results on the monotonicity of quotients of differentiable functions as well as on the monotonicity of quotients of two power series. We also use some known results on the quotients of Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind, and by using the monotonicity of the Dirichlet eta function we prove a sharp inequality for the tangent function. At the end of the paper a conjecture is stated, which may be of interest for further research.

This paper provides a simple characterization of potential games in terms of path independence. Using this characterization we propose an algorithm to determine if a finite game is potential or not. We define the storage requirement for our algorithm and provide its upper bound. The number of equations required in this algorithm is lower or equal to the number obtained in the algorithms proposed in the recent literature. We also show that for games with same numbers of players and strategy profiles, the number of equations for our algorithm is maximum when all players have the same number of strategies. The key technique of this paper is to identify an associated Poisson’s binomial distribution with any finite game. This distribution enables us to derive explicit forms of the number of equations, storage requirement and related aspects.

In the authors' first paper, Beurling-Rudin-Korenbljum type characterization of the closed ideals in a certain algebra of holomorphic functions was used to describe the lattice of invariant subspaces of the shift plus a complex Volterra operator. Current work is an extension of the previous work and it describes the lattice of invariant subspaces of the shift plus a positive integer multiple of the complex Volterra operator on the Hardy space. Our work was motivated by a paper by Ong who studied the real version of the same operator., We deleted a proposition and a corollary from section 4, and simplified the proof of the main theorem. **The article has been published in Archiv der Mathematik**

The Calibration Integral Equation Method (CIEM) represents an alternative view for resolving inverse heat-conduction problems based on a closely integrated mathematical and calibratory framework. The development of the measurement equation is constructed in the frequency domain and then inverted to the physical time domain through a convolution theorem. Hence, a first-kind Volterra integral equation arises from which the surface thermal condition can be resolved. This paper develops a “solution” formulation for the surface thermal condition initiated by CIEM principles. As with all inverse problems, stability in the prediction is key to the success of the methodology. All inverse problems require regularization by some technique for producing a stable approximate solution. The solution approach is formulated in the frequency domain in terms of a ratio of Laplace-transformed in-depth temperature measurements multiplied by the transformed calibration surface condition. The Laplace-transformed response function contains the calibration and reconstruction information from the in-depth sensor. The reconstructed surface condition is obtained in two steps. First, the inversion of this response function to the time domain is meticulously illustrated. Second, this temporal representation of the response function is then convolved with the measured calibration surface condition for predicting the surface condition. Fundamental to this paper is the mathematical framework required for inverting the Laplace-transformed response function composed of noisy in-depth data. The methodology is demonstrated by investigating a transient, one-dimensional linear heat equation in a semi-infinite geometry as associated with null-point calorimetry. This preliminary study relates the relevant details for the inversion of the response function based on Fourier analysis and presents results highlighting the merit of the concept.

In the present paper we introduce a notion of the \(\mathbb {K}\)-Riemann integral as a natural generalization of a usual Riemann integral and study its properties. The aim of this paper is to extend the classical Hermite–Hadamard inequalities to the case when the usual Riemann integral is replaced by the \(\mathbb {K}\)-Riemann integral and the convexity notion is replaced by \(\mathbb {K}\)-convexity.

This paper describes a procedure for the analytical solution of Riemann problems for multi-component, two-phase flow in general stream tube geometries in porous media. The procedure is first described for a scalar hyperbolic conservation law modeling waterflooding of an oil reservoir. Thereafter, it is easy to generalize the procedure to Riemann problems for multi-component, two-phase systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, for which the associated 1D Riemann problem has a known solution. The procedure is described for both constant flow rate and constant boundary pressures as imposed Riemann data. In the latter case, the flow rate is time-dependent and its novel analytical solution is constructed in this paper, clearly demonstrating a non-trivial impact of the flow geometry on the solution.

In this paper we assign, under reasonable hypothesis, to each pseudomanifold with isolated singularities a rational Poincar\'e duality space. The Farey sequence of order n consists of all reduced fractions a / b between 0 and 1 with positive denominator b less or equal to n. The sums of the inverse denominators 1 / b of the Farey fractions in prescribed intervals with rational bounds have a simple main term, but the deviations are determined by an interesting sequence of polygonal functions \(f_n\). In a former paper we obtained a limit function for \(n \rightarrow \infty \), which describes a scaling behaviour of the functions \(f_n\) in the vicinity of any fixed rational number a / b and which is independent of a / b. In this paper we prove that \(f_n(a/b)\) tends to zero for \(n \rightarrow \infty \) by using elementary representation formulas for \(f_n(a/b)\) as well as a variant of the prime number theorem. An application of this result immediately gives a global version of the scaling behaviour of the functions \(f_n\) around the rational numbers.

In this paper, we introduce the notions of differential graded (DG) Poisson algebra and DG Poisson module. Let $A$ be any DG Poisson algebra. We construct the universal enveloping algebra of $A$ explicitly, which is denoted by $A^{ue}$. We show that $A^{ue}$ has a natural DG algebra structure and it satisfies certain universal property. As a consequence of the universal property, it is proved that the category of DG Poisson modules over $A$ is isomorphic to the category of DG modules over $A^{ue}$. Furthermore, we prove that the notion of universal enveloping algebra $A^{ue}$ is well-behaved under opposite algebra and tensor product of DG Poisson algebras. In a Hilbert space setting ${\mathcal{H}}$, in order to minimize by fast methods a general convex lower semicontinuous and proper function ${\Phi }: {\mathcal{H}} \rightarrow \mathbb {R} \cup \{+\infty \}$, we analyze the convergence rate of the inertial proximal algorithms. These algorithms involve both extrapolation coefficients (including Nesterov acceleration method) and proximal coefficients in a general form. They can be interpreted as the discrete time version of inertial continuous gradient systems with general damping and time scale coefficients. Based on the proper setting of these parameters, we show the fast convergence of values and the convergence of iterates. In doing so, we provide an overview of this class of algorithms. Our study complements the previous Attouch–Cabot paper (SIOPT, 2018) by introducing into the algorithm time scaling aspects, and sheds new light on the Guler seminal papers on the convergence rate of the accelerated proximal methods for convex optimization.

We introduce here the notion of conformal semi-Riemannian map between semi-Riemannian manifolds aiming to unify and generalize two geometric concepts. The first one is studied by Garcia-Rio and Kupeli (namely, semi-Riemannian map between semi-Riemannian manifolds). The second notion is defined by Aahin (namely, conformal Riemannian map between Riemannian manifolds) as an extension of the notion of Riemannian map introduced by Fischer. We support the main notion of this paper with several classes of examples, e.g. semi-Riemanninan submersions (see O'Neill's book and Falcitelli, Ianus and Pastore's book) and isometric immersions between semi-Riemannian manifolds. As a tool, we use the screen distributions (specific in semi-Riemannian geometry) of Duggal and Bejancu's book to obtain some characterizations and to give a semi-Riemannian version of Fischer's (resp. Aahin's) results, using the new map introduced here. We study the generalized eikonal equation and at the end relate the main notion of the paper with harmonicity.

This paper is a sequel to Choi (Math Ann 362(1–2):121–146, 2015) in Math. Ann. In that paper we studied the subharmonicity of Kahler–Einstein metrics on strongly pseudoconvex domains of dimension greater than or equal to 3. In this paper, we study the variations Kahler–Einstein metrics on bounded strongly pseudoconvex domains of dimension 2. In addition, we discuss the previous result with general bounded pseudoconvex domain and local triviality of a family of bounded strongly pseudoconvex domains.

In this paper, we introduce the normalized Shintani L-function of several variables by an integral representation and prove its functional equation. The Shintani L-function is a generalization to several variables of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function and the functional equation given in this paper is a generalization of the functional equation of Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function. In addition to the functional equation, we give special values of the normalized Shintani L-function at non-positive integers and some positive integers.

It is well known that the Gaussian symplectic ensemble is defined on the space of \(n\times n\) quaternion self-dual Hermitian matrices with Gaussian random elements. There is a huge body of literature regarding this kind of matrices based on the exact known form of the density function of the eigenvalues (see Erdős in Russ Math Surv 66(3):507–626, 2011; Erdős in Probab Theory Relat Fields 154(1–2):341–407, 2012; Erdős et al. in Adv Math 229(3):1435–1515, 2012; Knowles and Yin in Probab Theory Relat Fields, 155(3–4):543–582, 2013; Tao and Vu in Acta Math 206(1):127–204, 2011; Tao and Vu in Electron J Probab 16(77):2104–2121, 2011). Due to the fact that multiplication of quaternions is not commutative, few works about large-dimensional quaternion self-dual Hermitian matrices are seen without normality assumptions. As in natural, we shall get more universal results by removing the Gaussian condition. For the first step, in this paper, we prove that the empirical spectral distribution of the common quaternion self-dual Hermitian matrices tends to the semicircular law. The main tool to establish the universal result is given as a lemma in this paper as well.

The Hermite matrix polynomials have been generalized in a number of ways, and many of these generalizations have been shown to be important tools in applications. In this paper, we introduce a new generalization of the Hermite matrix polynomials and present the recurrence relations and the expansion of these new generalized Hermite matrix polynomials. We also give new series expansions of the matrix functions \(\exp (xB)\), \(\sin (xB)\), \(\cos (xB)\), \(\cosh (xB)\) and \(\sinh (xB)\) in terms of these generalized Hermite matrix polynomials and thus prove that many of the seemingly different generalizations of the Hermite matrix polynomials may be viewed as particular cases of the two-variable polynomials introduced here. The generalized Chebyshev and Legendre matrix polynomials have also been introduced in this paper in terms of these generalized Hermite matrix polynomials.

The purpose of this paper is to present a new iteration method based on the hybrid method in mathematical programming, extragradient method, and Mann’s method for finding a common element of the solution set of equilibrium problems, the solution set of variational inequality problems for a monotone, Lipschitz continuous mapping and the set of fixed points for a nonexpansive semigroup in Hilbert spaces. We obtain a strong convergence theorem for the sequences generated by this process. The results in this paper generalize and extend some well-known strong convergence theorems in the literature.

In this paper, for the mapping of a sphere into a compact orientable manifold S n → M , n ⩾ 1 , we solve the problem of determining whether it represents a nontrivial element in the homotopy group of the manifold π n ( M ) πn(M ). For this purpose, we consistently use the theory of iterated integrals developed by K.-T. Chen. It should be noted that the iterated integrals as repeated integration were previously meaningfully used by Lappo-Danilevsky to represent solutions of systems of linear differential equations and by Whitehead for the analytical description of the Hopf invariant for mappings f : S 2 n - 1 → S n , n ⩾ 2 . We give a brief description of Chen’s theory, representing Whitehead’s and Haefliger’s formulas for the Hopf invariant and generalized Hopf invariant. Examples of calculating these invariants using the technique of iterated integrals are given. Further, it is shown how one can detect any element of the fundamental group of a Riemann surface using iterated integrals of holomorphic forms. This required to prove that the intersection of the terms of the lower central series of the fundamental group of a Riemann surface is a unit group.

In this paper, we consider numerical and trigonometric series with a very general monotonicity condition. First, a fundamental decomposition is established from which the sufficient parts of many classical results in Fourier analysis can be derived in this general setting. In the second part of the paper a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniform convergence of sine series is proved generalizing a classical theorem of Chaundy and Jolliffe.

In the paper stochastic Volterra equations of nonscalar type in Hilbert space are studied. The aim of the paper is to provide some results on stochastic convolution and mild solutions to those Volterra equations. In this paper, we produce a set of necessary inequalities satisfied by $$\Gamma _s$$ . These inequalities are indexed by products in $$H^*(G^{\mathrm{min }}/B; \mathbb {Z})$$ for $$B$$ the standard Borel subgroup, where $$G^{\mathrm{min }}$$ is the ‘minimal’ Kac-Moody group with Lie algebra $$\mathfrak {g}$$ . The proof relies on the Kac-Moody analogue of the Borel-Weil theorem and Geometric Invariant Theory (specifically the Hilbert-Mumford index). In the case that $$\mathfrak {g}$$ is affine of rank 2, we show that these inequalities are necessary and sufficient. We further prove that any integer $$d>0$$ is a saturation factor for $$A^{(1)}_1$$ and 4 is a saturation factor for $$A^{(2)}_2$$ .

In the present paper, we study the nature of LP-Sasakian manifolds admitting the M-projective curvature tensor. It is examined whether this manifold satisfies the condition W(X, Y ).R = 0. Moreover, it is proved that, in the M-projectively flat LP-Sasakian manifolds, the conditions R(X, Y ).R = 0 and R(X, Y ).S = 0 are satisfied. In the last part of the paper, an M-projectively flat space-time is introduced, and some properties of this space are obtained.

In an earlier paper Buczolich, Elekes and the author introduced a new concept of dimension for metric spaces, the so called topological Hausdorff dimension. They proved that it is precisely the right notion to describe the Hausdorff dimension of the level sets of the generic real-valued continuous function (in the sense of Baire category) defined on a compact metric space \(K\). The goal of this paper is to determine the Hausdorff dimension of the fibers of the generic continuous function from \(K\) to \(\mathbb {R}^n\). In order to do so, we define the \(n\)th inductive topological Hausdorff dimension, \(\dim _{t^nH} K\). Let \(\dim _H K,\,\dim _t K\) and \(C_n(K)\) denote the Hausdorff and topological dimension of \(K\) and the Banach space of the continuous functions from \(K\) to \(\mathbb {R}^n\). We show that \(\sup _{y\in \mathbb {R}^n} \dim _{H}f^{-1}(y) = \dim _{t^nH} K -n\) for the generic \(f \in C_n(K)\), provided that \(\dim _t K\ge n\), otherwise every fiber is finite. In order to prove the above theorem we give some equivalent definitions for the inductive topological Hausdorff dimensions, which can be interesting in their own right. Here we use techniques coming from the theory of topological dimension. We show that the supremum is actually attained on the left hand side of the above equation. We characterize those compact metric spaces \(K\) for which \(\dim _{H} f^{-1}(y)=\dim _{t^nH}K-n\) for the generic \(f\in C_n(K)\) and the generic \(y\in f(K)\). We also generalize a result of Kirchheim by showing that if \(K\) is self-similar and \(\dim _t K\ge n\) then \(\dim _{H} f^{-1}(y)=\dim _{t^nH}K-n\) for the generic \(f\in C_n(K)\) for every \(y\in {{\mathrm{int}}}f(K)\).

In this paper we consider a sum of modified Bessel functions of the first kind of which particular case is used in the study of Kanter's sharp modified Bessel function bound for concentrations of some sums of independent symmetric random vectors. We present some monotonicity and convexity properties for that sum of modified Bessel functions of the first kind, as well as some Tur\'an type inequalities, lower and upper bounds. Moreover, we point out an error in Kanter's paper [Ka] and at the end of the paper we pose an open problem, which may be of interest for further research., Comment: 8 pages

It is well known that the validity of the so called Lenard–Magri scheme of integrability of a bi-Hamiltonian PDE can be established if one has some precise information on the corresponding 1st variational Poisson cohomology for one of the two Hamiltonian operators. In the first part of the paper we explain how to introduce various cohomology complexes, including Lie superalgebra and Poisson cohomology complexes, and basic and reduced Lie conformal algebra and Poisson vertex algebra cohomology complexes, by making use of the corresponding universal Lie superalgebra or Lie conformal superalgebra. The most relevant are certain subcomplexes of the basic and reduced Poisson vertex algebra cohomology complexes, which we identify (non-canonically) with the generalized de Rham complex and the generalized variational complex. In the second part of the paper we compute the cohomology of the generalized de Rham complex, and, via a detailed study of the long exact sequence, we compute the cohomology of the generalized variational complex for any quasiconstant coefficient Hamiltonian operator with invertible leading coefficient. This paper presents a methodology for using varying sample sizes in batch-type optimization methods for large-scale machine learning problems. The first part of the paper deals with the delicate issue of dynamic sample selection in the evaluation of the function and gradient. We propose a criterion for increasing the sample size based on variance estimates obtained during the computation of a batch gradient. We establish an $${O(1/\epsilon)}$$ complexity bound on the total cost of a gradient method. The second part of the paper describes a practical Newton method that uses a smaller sample to compute Hessian vector-products than to evaluate the function and the gradient, and that also employs a dynamic sampling technique. The focus of the paper shifts in the third part of the paper to L 1-regularized problems designed to produce sparse solutions. We propose a Newton-like method that consists of two phases: a (minimalistic) gradient projection phase that identifies zero variables, and subspace phase that applies a subsampled Hessian Newton iteration in the free variables. Numerical tests on speech recognition problems illustrate the performance of the algorithms.

In spite of the Lebesgue density theorem, there is a positive $\delta$ such that, for every non-trivial measurable set $S$ of real numbers, there is a point at which both the lower densities of $S$ and of the complement of $S$ are at least $\delta$. The problem of determining the supremum of possible values of this $\delta$ was studied in a paper of V. I. Kolyada, as well as in some recent papers. This paper contains three main results: the first one is to derive two “period relations” and the second one is a complete characterization of period functions of Jacobi forms in terms of period relations. These are done by introducing a concept of “Jacobi integrals” on the full Jacobi group. The last one is to show, for the given holomorphic function P(τ, z) having two period relations, there exists a unique Jacobi integral, up to Jacobi forms, with a given function P(τ, z) as its period function. This is done by constructing a generalized Jacobi Poincare series explicitly. This is to say that every holomorphic function with “period relations” is coming from a Jacobi integral. It is an analogy of Eichler cohomology theory studied in Knopp (Bull Am Math Soc 80:607–632, 1974) for the functions with elliptic and modular variables. It explains the functional equations satisfied by the “Mordell integrals” associated with the Lerch sums (Zwegers in Mock theta functions, PhD thesis, Universiteit Utrecht, 2002) or, more generally, with the higher Appell functions (Semikhatov et al. in Commun Math Phys 255(2):469–512, 2005). Developing theories of Jacobi integrals with elliptic and modular variables in this paper is a natural extension of the Eichler integral with modular variable. Period functions can be explained in terms of the parabolic cohomology group as well.

The primary goal of this paper is to present a comprehensive study of the nonlinear Schrodinger equations with combined nonlinearities of the power-type and Hartree-type. Under certain structural conditions, the authors are able to provide a complete picture of how the nonlinear Schrodinger equations with combined nonlinearities interact in the given energy space. The method used in the paper is based upon the Morawetz estimates and perturbation principles.

In this paper we provide a first realization of an idea of Jacques Tits from a 1956 paper, which first mentioned that there should be a field of characteristique une, which is now called $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ , the field with one element. This idea was that every split reductive group scheme over $${\mathbb{Z}}$$ should descend to $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ , and its group of $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ -rational points should be its Weyl group. We connect the notion of a torified scheme to the notion of $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ -schemes as introduced by Connes and Consani. This yields models of toric varieties, Schubert varieties and split reductive group schemes as $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ -schemes. We endow the class of $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ -schemes with two classes of morphisms, one leading to a satisfying notion of $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ -rational points, the other leading to the notion of an algebraic group over $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ such that every split reductive group is defined as an algebraic group over $${\mathbb{F}_1}$$ . Furthermore, we show that certain combinatorics that are expected from parabolic subgroups of GL(n) and Grassmann varieties are realized in this theory.
