With the development of printed electronics technology, the demand for printed conductive inks had also put forward higher standards. The shortcomings of traditional printed circuit boards, such as complex technology, consumables, and pollution, had also been resolved with the development of 3D printing technology. In this paper, low-content silver nanoparticles were blended with graphene alcohol slurry and dissolved in a non-polluting solvent such as absolute ethanol. The synergistic effect of the composite of the hexagonal structure of the graphene sheet and the silver nanoparticles improved the ink’s performance of electrical conductivity, adding water-based polyurethane/acrylic resin system to improve the adhesion between ink and paper. The conductive ink can be used to 3D print circuit circuits on paper. After drying, the resistance was measured. After the battery, diode, and switch were connected, a circuit diagram was made. After pressing the diode emits was lighted. This work is expected to be applied to flexible circuit boards to provide basic research.

Recent advances in the design and preparation of electroactive materials, particularly semiconducting and conductive polymers, have resulted in the creation of novel organic electronics with advanced functionality and performance competitive with that of devices made of silicon. With an increasing number of organic and printed electronics being engineered and produced at a larger scale, the environmental cost of the final organic electronic devices (life cycle, environmental impact, etc.) needs to be considered. While e-waste is already a growing global problem, improving the sustainability of emerging electronics through a careful materials selection is highly desirable. In this work, we explore the use of shellac as a sustainable greener dielectric material in organic field-effect transistors (OFET). A careful examination of shellac in combination with diketopyrrolopyrrole-based semiconducting polymers was performed on rigid substrates through AFM and the fabrication of thin film transistors. All devices made from this green dielectric showed good performance and device characteristics. Building from this investigation, shellac was further integrated with paper substrates to fabricate paper-based thin film transistors. Thin film samples based on shellac on both silicon wafer and paper substrates were characterized by atomic force microscopy to investigate solid-state morphology of shellac and selected semiconducting materials. Through careful optimization of the device architecture and processing time, device characteristics and performances on paper substrates (average charge mobilities and on/off current ratios) were comparable to those of devices prepared on silicon wafers, confirming that shellac, in combination with organic semiconducting polymers, can be an advantageous dielectric material to be used for the fabrication of greener and sustainable thin film electronics from renewable feedstocks and components.

We study the spatial rock-paper-scissors model, where resource competitors' cyclic dominance impacts organisms' energy levels. Our model assumes that failed selection interactions can lead to energy loss, reducing the chances of success in the spatial game and hastening decline. To prevent death by energy insufficiency, organisms of one out of the species strategically perform a trade-off between reproduction and mobility. When prioritising exploring more extensive areas, organisms aim to maximise the chances of acquiring resources to regain high energy levels. Through simulation, we examine the effect of survival behaviour on species segregation and spatial patterns. Our outcomes show that the trade-off between offspring generation and accelerated movement effectively protects individuals from death due to lack of energy. Moreover, the risk of being eliminated by an enemy in the cyclic game reduces due to the behavioural strategy. Considering a three-state model, we quantify how the trade-off parameter controls the organisms' energy recovery. Computing the median organisms' survival time, we find that although individuals performing the trade-off strategy may live longer, the organisms of other species are negatively affected by a life expectancy reduction. The well-known game of Rock--Paper--Scissors can be used as a simple model of competition between three species. When modelled in continuous time using differential equations, the resulting system contains a heteroclinic cycle between the three equilibrium solutions representing the existence of only a single species. The game can be extended in a symmetric fashion by the addition of two further strategies (`Lizard' and `Spock'): now each strategy is dominant over two of the remaining four strategies, and is dominated by the remaining two. The differential equation model contains a set of coupled heteroclinic cycles forming a heteroclinic network. In this paper we carefully consider the dynamics near this heteroclinic network. We are able to identify regions of parameter space in which arbitrarily long periodic sequences of visits are made to the neighbourhoods of the equilibria, which form a complicated pattern in parameter space., Submitted to Nonlinearity

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), a simple, highly sensitive, and fast analytical method can be used to detect corrosion components on the surface of bronze ware, a difficult problem. The silver mirror reaction is suggested for depositing precious metal nanoparticles on cellulose filter paper in order to create a quick, easy, and low-cost approach for creating SERS substrates. After an 8-minute deposition time, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a uniform dispersion of precious metals on cellulose filter paper. To examine the SERS characteristics of the substrate, copper chloride oxide, the main ingredient in the damaging rust of trace bronze ware, was used as the probe molecule. The findings show that cellulose filter paper with a uniform distribution of precious metals achieves the best SERS performance. The flexible substrate enables effective trace analysis of damaging rust on bronze surfaces.

In order to reasonably evaluate the effectiveness of UHF sensor arrangement in online monitoring of partial discharge of bushing, it is necessary to study the electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics of partial discharge UHF in the bushing. In this paper, a three-dimensional model of a real transformer bushing is established, the XFDTD software is used to simulate the raised seat defects and internal capacitive core defects of the bushing, field strength sensors are arranged at different locations inside and outside the bushing, and the propagation process of partial discharge UHF signals leaking from the oil-paper insulated bushing to the external free space is simulated and analyzed. The results show that the time difference between the signals received by the field strength sensors at different locations is not significant and can be neglected in practice. The partial discharge electromagnetic wave signal generated by the bushing elevated seat defect leaks from the upper porcelain sleeve to the external space, and the leaked electromagnetic wave energy is mainly gathered at the upper and lower ends of the upper porcelain sleeve. The partially discharged electromagnetic signal at the capacitor core inside the bushing will propagate along the coaxial waveguide structure formed between the capacitor screens towards the two ends of the capacitor core, the downward propagating electromagnetic wave energy is confined within the elevated seat, the upward propagating electromagnetic wave energy propagates from the top of the upper porcelain bushing to the external space, the leaked electromagnetic wave energy is mainly concentrated at the top of the upper porcelain bushing. The simulation results provide ideas for optimizing the arrangement of external antenna sensors for UHF detection of partial discharges in transformer oil-paper insulated bushings.

An extreme occurrence within the earth’s system that causes human fatalities, injuries, and property destruction is referred to as a “disaster” from a social perspective. Disaster management is one of the most critical topics around the world. Many countries are getting affected because of its high magnitude impact on economy and loss of life. The Karnataka government must always be on guard and ready to meet problems due to the frequent natural disasters like landslides, floods, droughts, and human-induced dangers. In order to lessen the effect of disasters on the community, the Government of Karnataka has built enhanced institutional structures for disaster risk reduction. The main aim of the review paper of this, is to create awareness about the situations occurring due to any form of disasters and to develop preparedness in younger generation to face disaster situations.

In this letter we consider a single parameter generalization of the standard three species Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS) model allowing for predator-prey reversal. This model, which shall be referred to as $\kappa$RPS model, incorporates bidirectional predator-prey interactions between all the species in addition to the unidirectional predator-prey interactions of the standard RPS model. We study the dynamics of a May-Leonard formulation of the $\kappa$RPS model using lattice based spatial stochastic simulations with random initial conditions. We find that if the simulation lattices are sufficiently large for the coexistence of all three species to be maintained, the model asymptotically leads to the formation of spiral patterns whose evolution is qualitatively similar to that of the standard RPS model, albeit with larger characteristic length and time scales. We show that there are in general two distinct scaling regimes: one transient curvature dominated regime in which the characteristic length of the population network grows with time and another where it becomes a constant. We also estimate the dependence of the asymptotic value of the characteristic length of the population network on the likelihood of predator-prey reversal and show that if the simulation lattices are not sufficiently large then predator-prey reversal can have a significant negative impact on coexistence. Eucalyptus is one of the major species used for pulp and paper industry. As industries develop, the need for Eucalyptus supply increases. However, there are challenges plantation companies must specifically determining eucalyptus market price potential risks in eucalyptus plantation and how eucalyptus plantation impacts the surrounding environment.. Stakeholders on eucalyptus supply chain have risks which have to be mitigated. The eucalyptus seedling and developer and the supplier hold crucial role in providing good quality eucalyptus raw material for pulp and paper production plants. This research is conducted to explore on ways to mitigate each stakeholders risk, challenges plantation companies face in fulfilling eucalyptus raw material for pulp and paper production plants. There are four stakeholders in eucalyptus supply chain: eucalyptus seedling developer and seller, supplier, distribution centre and pulp and paper production plants. Some of the major risk stakeholders are facing in eucalyptus supply chain are: early cut of eucalyptus trees, farmers’ lack of understanding on growing eucalyptus properly, small stem size, fluctuating eucalyptus wood price and low stock quantity. Some of the minor risk stakeholders are facing: earthquake, over fertilization, overwatering, cold climate, and plant setting. There are four methods used to determine eucalyptus pricing: cost-based pricing, customer-based pricing, competition-based pricing, and statutory pricing. Eucalyptus consume high amount of water which can cause dry areas around eucalyptus plantation area and low groundwater reservoir.

Nowadays, demand of the pulp and paper production increases quickly. That increasing demand has led to demanding of eucalyptus plantation. That is why eucalyptus plantation has rapidly expanded and became the most planted tree species across the world over the last century. Not only because its unique characteristics, increasing of eucalyptus plantation also happened because its growing gives a socio-economic benefits, industrial benefits, and environmental impacts. However, increasing demand of eucalyptus certainly make availability of eucalyptus being determined, known as limited supply chain. Due to the increasing demand and limited supply chain, the eucalyptus wood supply should managed, by integrated the supply chain well. In this research study, the supply chain of eucalyptus wood for pulp and paper industry was diagnosed and divided into three degree, there are direct supply chain, extended supply chain, and ultimate supply chain. Four main stakeholders in this chain identified consisted of the eucalyptus seedling developers and sellers, the suppliers, the distribution centers, and the pulp and paper production plants.

In the world a number of researches are intensively being conducted on the preparation of new paper compositions based on natural polymers, expanding the application scope of products with unique and rare properties using not only plant fibers but also non-traditional fibers, the development of traditional papers for priority areas in this field and manufacturing paper products from mineral fibers with the help of existing devices. Systematic, regular studies of the use of inorganic binders in the preparation of sheet (sheet) materials based on mineral fibers have not yet been carried out by the method of paper technology. Paper products were obtained from cellulose-containing plants. Several quality indicators of paper products were studied. These are: Tearing length, tearing resistance, bending resistance, number of bendings in both directions.

This paper reports the use of non destructive, microstrip patch antenna as paper moisture sensor. Microstrip patch antenna is designed to resonate at 2.4GHz. This design is simulated and fabricated on copper clad type FR4 (εr= 4.4) having thickness of 1.6mm. Patch dimension are 27mm × 30mm and substrate dimension is 63mm × 60mm. The microstrip transmission line is used to provide excitation for the antenna. This design for microstrip patch antenna after fabrication showed a resonance at 2.38 GHz on vector network analyzer at S11=-19.38dB with impedance =49Ω. The variations in frequency in relation with water content in the paper is measured using Vector Network Analyzer by placing wet paper on the patch antenna. Moisture content in the paper was found out by taking wet weight and dry weight of the paper. The model of the wet paper is recommended primarily on the basis of water-dry paper reactions, along with the thickness and surface roughness explaining tendencies of the sensitivity graphs. Paper samples of 13 different types, with different GSM values and thicknesses, havingdimensions same as that of the substrate were tested. From the results it is observed that as the moisture content in the paper increases the frequency decreases. The change in frequency with respect to the moisture content is seen to have quadratic relation with moisture. The variations in the frequency are fitted in the form of equations. The calculated %Mwet indicates an error around ±0-4% in the calculated value as compared to the actual value. The response of sensor is almost linear with respect to the references but the coefficients depend non-linearly with the paper dimension.

The main idea of this research is to design a rechargeable paper battery from local cheap and available materials. The practical part is represented by adding Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to conductive polymer (PSS PEDOT) with adding different mineral salts for then study the quantum of electrical conductivity and heat influence on electrical conductivity and acidity factors of the Electrolyte solution.The next step was to produce a rechargeable, flexible battery manufactured from regular cellulose paper, sulfone, and ionic solution.The measurements were made using modern laboratory devices to study the electrical properties, conductivity, resistance (Hall Effect), and voltage quantum of the ionic solution. Through the results we obtained, we noticed an increase in the conductivity of the ionic solution when adding mineral salts. The voltage quantum of one battery ranged between 0.3-0.3 volts, also several batteries were connected in series, and the result was 1.8 volts. Manufactured paper batteries can be recharged with a direct current source and recover their efficiency marked up 98-99%.

In this study, we present fully printed organic electrochemical transistors using an active layer of PEDOT:PSS, carbon electrodes, cellulose-based electrolyte, and three different papers as substrates: bond, vegetal, and Lumi Silk, relating the electrical properties to the different morphologies of the paper surfaces. Each paper presents different regularity, diffusion capabilities, and roughness, with significant influence on the transistor performance. The more organized and smooth the surface, the better the electrical characteristics, the best of these being the Lumi Silk, with higher I on/I off ratio of 46, on-current of 8.3 10-5 A, V on of 1.3 V, and power gain of 43.5 dB associated with ultra-low hysteresis of 0.1 V, high transconductance of -57.3 μS, and suitablity for flexible electronics and sensors applications. Light-reflecting characteristics play a crucial role in optically rewritable liquid crystal display (electronic paper). By using a special optimizer software, light-reflecting characteristics of the twisted nematic cell were calculated. The achieved values of the normalized reflection coefficients range within ∼ 0.03 - 0.43, which is comparable or better than other commercial technologies. The calculated contrast ratio of the device is 10 : 1. A 2D image, which can be displayed on the electronic paper was obtained. Comparison of the simulated background color and contrast ratio is very similar with the results, which were obtained in experimental cells of other studies. Our calculations indicate that angular dependence of the reflectance coefficient is almost uniform within a wide range of viewing angles.

With the utilization of used newspaper into the paper making industry, bleaching has been an area of concern to obtain a balance between desired brightness and the amount of treatment it requires. Motivation of this study was to optimize bleaching of recycled newsprint fibers in terms of five variables namely hydrogen peroxide charge, amount of sodium hydroxide employed, pulp consistency, bleaching temperature, and bleaching time. Experimental work was conducted in the laboratory to simulate bleaching plant and it was found that higher peroxide charge is better for improvement in brightness, but it is uneconomical to increase peroxide charge indefinitely. The amount of hydrogen peroxide is added so that the residual peroxide at the end of the reaction is not less than 10% of the initially added peroxide. Sodium hydroxide provides alkalinity which is very important for making the fibers flexible and softening of ink particles but it also contributes to pulp yellowing if residual hydrogen peroxide contents are lesser than the minimum required value. So, for 16 kg t−1 of hydrogen peroxide, 6 kg t−1 of sodium hydroxide prevented the brightness reversion in this study. Higher pulp consistency is better but unavailability of very high consistency pulp mixer in the industry is a limiting factor for higher than 30% pulp consistency. Temperature and time are quite interrelated and, with the given bleaching conditions, a temperature of 95 °C with 10 min residence time was found to be optimum for this study. It was also observed that multiple pre-washings increase brightness and save bleaching chemicals.

Pulp and paper industries are critical to a country’s economic growth. The type of raw material used and the pulping process determine the quality and quantity of wastewater generated. However, the generated wastewater with a dark colour comprises a high concentration of suspended solids, organic content, chemical oxygen demand (COD), volatile organic compounds, and a variety of other impurities. Therefore, in this study, a bench scale activated sludge treatment system was set up using a reactor consisting of an aeration tank with 5000 mg/L initial biomass and a clarifier chamber for the biomass to settle. The reactor was run few weeks with real domestic wastewater as the influent for 3 weeks to acclimatize the sludge inside the reactor. The reactor was then fed with the influent mixture of 20% industrial pulp wastewater and 80% domestic wastewater. Organic and nutrient parameter concentrations are tested from the influent and effluent sample throughout the study duration and recorded for data analysis. The removal of COD and TSS are at 83% and 90% respectively while the averaged BOD value of the treated wastewater is at 74.6%. The conclusion of this project is that the bench scale EAAS is able to treat BOD and TSS according to standard. However, a modification may be required to increase the efficiency of removing COD to meet the requirement standards. This modification could be either by using a biocarrier or an activated carbon to further enhance the treatment efficiency even at higher wastewater concentration.

Novel printed electronics are projected to grow and be manufactured in the future in large volumes. In many applications, printed electronics are envisaged as sustainable alternatives to conventional (PCB-based) electronics. One such application is in the semi-quantitative drug detection and point-of-care device called ‘GREENSENSE’ that uses paper-based printed electronics. This paper analyses the carbon footprint of GREENSENSE in order to identify and suggest means of mitigating disproportionately high environmental impacts, labeled ‘sustainability hotspots’, from materials and processes used during production which would be relevant in high-volume applications. Firstly, a life cycle model traces the flow of raw materials (such as paper, CNCs, and nanosilver) through the three ‘umbrella’ processes (circuit printing, component mounting, and biofunctionalization) manufacturing different electronic components (the substrate, conductive inks, energy sources, display, etc) that are further assembled into GREENSENSE. Based on the life cycle model, life cycle inventories are modeled that map out the network of material and energy flow throughout the production of GREENSENSE. Finally, from the environmental impact and sustainability hotspot analysis, both crystalline nanocellulose and nanosilver were found to create material hotspots and they should be replaced in favor of lower-impact materials. Process hotspots are created by manual, lab-, and pilot-scale processes with unoptimized material consumption, energy use, and waste generation; automated and industrial-scale manufacturing can mitigate such process hotspots.

A huge amount of newspaper waste is generated in an average Indian household on a daily basis. The ideology behind this study is to amalgamate this paper waste into construction materials. This manuscript is a preliminary initiative for the same motive and explores the feasibility of mixing waste paper pulp into cement mortar for further adopting the practice on construction sites. Different ratios of cement, standard sand and crushed paper pulp (soaked for 72 hours) were administered to cast cement mortar cubes and the same were tested for compressive strength in a compression testing machine. The several trial mixes, partially replacing sand in mortar making were attempted to study the behavior of cement mortar while infused with waste paper pulp. The strength of these cubes were compared to standard cement mortar cubes cast using one part cement and 3 parts of standard sand. The trial ratios of cement, sand and paper pulp were 1:0.5:0.5; 1:0.75:0.25 and 1:0.25:0.75 respectively. Both 7 days as well as 28 days strength was determined. It was found that one part cement, half part standard sand and half a part of waste paper pulp was the most optimum combination yielding satisfactory strength of cement mortar cubes. The compressive strength of standard cube was 7.2 MPa and the same for 1:0.5:0.5 was 6.6 MPa. Thus waste paper pulp infused cement mortar may be used for brickwork and other trivial lean cement members in construction. The purpose of the study is to address two major underlying challenges in modern day construction projects, first being the dearth of river sand availability and secondly the disposal of waste paper which ultimately ends up in landfills subsequently polluting the environment.

In this study, a versatile sensing platform based on a commercially available filter paper for the development of a colorimetric sensor using label-free gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the detection of cyanide in water is presented. The developed sensor can be applied for the direct detection of cyanide from an aqueous sample efficiently in a wide concentration range. The synthesised AuNPs were found to have an average size of about 13.2 ± 2.65 nm with a surface plasmon resonance peak at around 525 nm. Successful integration of AuNPs on the WFP substrate was observed through the FESEM-EDX analysis and supported by the presence of an absorbance peak at about 528 nm on the spectrum of the WFP-AuNPs composite. The colour of the WFP-AuNPs composite changed from purple-red to white in the presence of cyanide. Using the paper-based sensor, the limit of detection is calculated to be 7.68 × 10−6 M (0.5 ppm). The said sensitivity is good enough for the determination of cyanide in industrial wastewater samples. The developed sensor also showed excellent selectivity towards cyanide over other ions, demonstrating its practical applicability to monitor cyanide contamination in different environmental samples. Furthermore, the applicability of the sensor was demonstrated using several real water samples spiked with cyanide, including creek and tap water. Notably, the sensor showed great promise for the rapid, cost-effective, and versatile monitoring of cyanide contamination in various aqueous samples.

The article is devoted to the study of the use of waste from the pulp and paper industry as soil, which can be used in technical and biological recultivation of disturbed lands, industrial waste dumps and other applications in accordance with its purpose. Studies of soil obtained from frozen sediments of sludge-lignin of JSC “Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill (BPPM)” with the addition of waste activated sludge of sewage treatment facilities were carried out. They were aimed at the research of its chemical and agrochemical composition, as well as toxicological properties. The tests carried out showed that the obtained soil is capable of intensifying the recultivation succession of disturbed lands, and also contributes to an increase in the growth and biomass of plants and increases their ability to reproduce. Thus, the developed technology for processing sediments of storage cards of JSC “BPPM” is based on the creation of effective conditions for such natural processes as freezing, drainage, self-overgrowth and allows not only to reduce the technical and economic costs of waste disposal, but also to increase the social and environmental security of the region.

Printed electronic (PE) devices that sense and communicate data will become ubiquitous as the Internet of things continues to grow. Devices that are low cost and disposable will revolutionize areas such as smart packaging, but a major challenge in this field is the reliance on plastic substrates such as polyethylene terephthalate. Plastics discarded in landfills degrade to form micro- and nanoplastics that are hazardous to humans, animals, and aquatic systems. Replacing plastics with paper substrates is a greener approach due to the biodegradability, recyclability, low cost, and compatibility with roll-to-roll printing. However, the porous microstructure of paper promotes the wicking of functional inks, which adversely affects printability and electrical performance. Furthermore, truly sustainable PE must support the separation of electronic materials, particularly metallic inks, from the paper substrate at the end of life. This important step is necessary to avoid contamination of recycled paper and/or waste streams and enable the recovery of electronic materials. Here, we describe the use of shellac—a green and sustainable material—as a multifunctional component of green, paper-based PE. Shellac is a cost-effective biopolymer widely used as a protective coating due to its beneficial properties (hardness, UV resistance, and high moisture- and gas-barrier properties); nonetheless, shellac has not been significantly explored in PE. We show that shellac has great potential in green PE by using it to coat paper substrates to create planarized, printable surfaces. At the end of life, shellac acts as a sacrificial layer. Immersing the printed device in methanol dissolves the shellac layer, enabling the separation of PE materials from the paper substrate.

The use of paper directly proportional to the growth in the number of people. The impact is in the form of environmental problems where there is logging of forest trees, and deforestation so that it affects the ecosystem and the natural environment. Trees are cut down and made into paper for human needs, including to make books as learning media. In the current technological era, the use of books as a medium of learning has an impact on students’ declining motivation to learn. To solve the problem, we proposes the application of Augmented Reality (AR) as a learning medium. This research uses Game Engine Unity and Vuforia which can display 3-dimensional objects, and uses Android as the basis of the system. In this paper, we introduce four equipments of athletic sports. The aim of this research is to reduce the use of paper as a learning medium and increase learning motivation. The result of the research is an Augmented Reality-based athletics introduction application that has been tested for its performance using blackbox testing using various conditions of its marker.

The recycling paper industry has a good potential market. The industry used recycled paper such as Old Corrugated Containers (OCC), Old Newspaper (ONP), mixed waste paper, and Sorted White Ledger (SWL) as raw material. In Indonesia, commonly, the industry got the raw material of about 50% by importing. The government provides regulation to ensure the sustainability of the industrial activity, that is the process of importing recycled paper and internal regulation to increase local raw materials. The objectives of the research were to study the chosen raw material for the recycling paper industry and to analyze the positioning strategy of consumption raw material for the recycling paper industry in Indonesia. This research used a qualitative description method by the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Strength Weakness Opportunities Threat (SWOT) analysis. The data were obtained from a questionnaire distributed to the paper industry, paper researcher, and relevant agencies. Based on AHP, the strength criteria to choose raw material is the regulation and availability of raw material with values 0.323 and 0.243; and the alternative chosen is recycled paper raw material import. The result of SWOT analysis, the recycling paper industry in Indonesia, has an Internal Factor Analysis Strategy (IFAS) 0.05, and an External Factor Analysis Strategy (EFAS) - 0.03. That showed from SWOT quadrant matrix, the position coordinate point of IFAS and EFAS in quadrant II. That means the positioning strategy is diversification. The government, recycling paper industry, and relevant agencies to corporate to increase the collecting rate of recycled paper.

This experiment initially explored the clean production process of nanocellulose fibrils (NFC) using commercial softwood pulp as raw materials, and selected appropriate biological enzyme pretreatment to prepare NFC1 with a higher concentration. Compared with NFC2 obtained by TEMPO oxidation method, it is found that the diameter of NFC1 obtained by enzymatic pretreatment method (10-30nm) is similar to that of NFC2 (20-30nm). But the length of NFC1 (1-4μm) is much longer than the length of NFC2 (400-600nm). In addition, the influence of two kinds of NFC on the physical strength of paper is also explored. Experimental results show that: NFC1 is better than NFC2 in enhancing the physical strength of paper. And when cationic starch and NFC act synergistically, the enhancement effect is obviously better than using NFC alone or cationic starch alone. When the addition amount of NFC1 is (1.5±0.5)%, the tensile index, burst index, and tear index of the resulting paper increase by (43±3)%, (55±1)%, (37±2), respectively %. When the amount of NFC2 added is (1.5±0.5)%, the paper tensile index is (29±2)%. When the amount of NFC2 added is about (3±1)%, the paper’s bursting index and tearing index growth rate are (29±1)% and (33±1)% respectively.

The purpose of this research is to design a Whatman paper based sensor for quantitative measurement of iodide anion by its quenching effect on the fluorescence intensity of the nitrogen doped carbon quantum dots (N-doped CQDs) using a smart phone as a detection system. In this project, N-doped CQDs were synthesized by a hydrothermal method using citric acid as a source of carbon and hexamethylenediamine as a source of nitrogen. In order to characterize of the synthesized N-doped CQDs, Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) was used. After designing of the paper based sensor, an aliquot of the mixture of the N-doped CQDs:Glue (glue roles as the stabilizing agent) was injected on the hydrophilic zone of the paper and then by injection of different concentrations of iodide anion, the reduction of the fluorescence intensity was measured using the smart phone camera. By optimizing the critical parameters affecting the quenching efficiency of the N-doped CQDs including the size of the hydrophilic zone, the volume ratio of the N-doped CQDs:Glue, type of the Whtaman filter paper and the pH of sample solution, the proposed method was used for determination of iodide ion. The results show that two calibration curves in the ranges of 1-10 and 15-200 mmol L-1 iodide were obtained for determination of iodide anion. Also, the detection limit (LOD) of 3 mmol L-1 and the relative standard deviation (RSD) in the range of 2.6-2.9 % were obtained for the iodide anion in the range of 50-150 mmol L-1. The main advantages of the propsed method are rapidity, inexpensively, simplicity, availability and no need of expert for operation.

Determining the optimal clusters can be regarded as a grouping problem that has produced many cluster approach methods in various studies. Each method has provisions that can solve one or more grouping problems in generating information from data set with a number of k being tested. The advantages and disadvantages of each method actually complement to each other in solving the grouping problems. This paper aims to describe the performance of cluster approach methods in determining the optimal clusters through a review by paying attention to the criteria of the problem which is an obstacle to the grouping problem. The results of this review are expected to be a reference for developing the new optimal cluster approach method through possible combinatorial optimization.

A paper-based colorimeter for absorbance and concentration measurement of the food colouring dye is proposed. The paper-based colorimeter system consists of a white LED as light source, paper-based cuvette holder, and smartphone light sensor. The paper-based colorimeter with smartphone light sensor is low-cost, mobile and real-time for the detection of colouring dye concentration. The detection response of the paper-based colorimeter system was found to be linear with the colouring dye concentration in the range from 0 to 0.025 g/mL with a correlation coefficient (R2) 0.89±0.04. The experimental results show that this paper-based colorimeter system is highly sensitive and have a potential application, from student labs to small industries.

The traditional Chinese folk paper-cutting art has a long history. It is a traditional folk art form created by working people to satisfy their spiritual and material pursuits. It originates from life and returns to life. With the pace of the times, folk paper-cutting has undergone an innovative transformation and development through the interweaving, penetration and integration of contemporary design concepts. Through the combination of network big data, it provides a large number of references for modern graphic design decoration and function combination, graphic context inheritance, color language, modeling language, etc.

A method for detecting paper’s surface defects is proposed, which is based on mathematical morphology algorithm and computer vision technique. Firstly, the mean filtering and wavelet denoising in image pre-processing are used to eliminate the image noise, and wavelet analysis can achieve image enhancement and increase the contrast between the target area and the background. And then, an improved threshold Canny operator is used to segment the image to extract the complete scratch line and other defect edges. Finally, the target region features are coloured by mathematical morphology processing. The method’s stimulating result is verified in the Matlab software, from which we can conclude that the method’s detecting effect is very effective.

Perishable food really needs proper handling. Therefore, various industries and researchers continue to innovate, especially in the development of packaging. The development of active packaging is a new innovation in the field of packaging technology. This packaging innovation was designed to maintain the quality of packaged food. This study aimed to obtain the best concentration of antimicrobial garlic ingredients with a mixture of paper as an active packaging material. The concentration of garlic extract used in this study was 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Based on the result obtained, it could be concluded that the active paper with the addition of garlic extract concentration of 15% had the best effectiveness then followed by concentrations of 10%, 5%, and 0%. The effectiveness could be seen from the diameter of inhibition zone formation resulted.

This study aims to obtain the best operating conditions including pyrolysis time and amount of catalyst in oil fuel production from reject plastic as raw material with coal fly ash as catalyst based on its yield and characteristics. Both reject plastic and coal fly ash are waste originating from a paper industry in Medan. This research was carried out in three steps: preparation of reject plastic and coal fly ash, oil fuel production and characterization (composition of coal fly ash and density, viscosity and heating value of oil fuel). The main components in the coal fly ash are SiO2, C and Al2O3 that are 30.36%, 27.11% and 24.04% respectively. The yields of oil fuel are in the range of 14.18% - 26.58%. From 12 samples, 10 samples meet the standard density whereas 8 samples meet the standard viscosity for diesel fuel based on ASTM D-975. The best operating condition is achieved when using 15% catalyst with 2 h pyrolysis time that produce oil fuel with the highest heating value.

When partial discharge occurs in the power transformer, the arc can further develop on the oil-paper interface between high and low potentials, and then form a path, resulting in large-area flashover. This will lead to a wide range of insulation damage, insulation failure, equipment shutdown and even large-scale economic losses. For the insulation damage caused by surface discharge of oil paper insulation, relevant scientific research institutions have carried out a large number of experimental studies. However, limited by the test conditions, the research focuses on the small-size model below 50mm, and mostly adopts the test device of uneven electric field. The research on the “large-size“ of the same scale inside the transformer is still blank. In this study, an oil-paper insulation surface discharge test platform with a large size of 50-150mm is built, the electric field conditions at the oil paper interface during the operation of transformers in engineering are simulated, and the surface discharge test of insulating paperboard is carried out by taking the same sample processing means as the engineering. Combined with the test results, a typical design optimization case of setting along surface corner ring to improve the allowable value of along surface discharge field and enhance along surface insulation margin is proposed. It lays a foundation for enriching the transformer oil-paper insulation design parameter system and improving the transformer oil paper insulation performance and operation reliability.

A tapered glass capillary MeV-ion microbeam setup, previously home-developed, was recently upgraded. To check the upgraded microbeam system quality and accuracy, microbeam particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) mapping of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution diffusion in filter paper was carried out to study how the measured solvent diffusion followed the diffusion laws. Two initial boundary conditions and diffusion situations were applied: (1) the paper vertically placed in air with one end soaked in the solution for ten minutes, and (2) the paper horizontally placed on water with the solution dropped at a side of the paper for three minutes. 2-MeV-proton microbeam PIXE analyzed the paper pixel by pixel and the GUPIXWIN software was used to calculate the elemental concentrations in the pixels to map the concentration changes in the pixels as a function of the distance between the pixel position and the origin of the solution. The resulting maps demonstrated the solution diffusions in two cases indeed well following the diffusion laws, a steady-state diffusion dominated process where the elemental concentration was a linear function with the distance but joined by other non-diffusion factors for case 1, and a pure diffusion process where the elemental concentration was an error function with the distance for case 2.

Bioethanol is one of the best alternative form of energy source in place of fossil fuels. In this study, bioethanol was produced from waste paper following a pre-treatment. The isolates used were isolated from fresh palm wine and characterized via standard microbiological methods. The pre-treatment was done using 5%, 10% and 50% concentrations of sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide respectively. Results obtained showed that the concentration of glucose from the substrates ranged between 0.2-0.8 ppm with 10% sulphuric acid giving the highest glucose yield. The fermentation of the sugar was carried out using Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the production of bioethanol, which was recovered by fractional distillation. From this study, the production of bioethanol from waste paper is a veritable means of shoring up energy deficit especially in the developing countries.

Fomites have been known to harbor significant amount of microbial load and its handling by food vendors poses a significant risk to consumers. In this study, swab samples were collected from vendors handling paper currency; their food contaminated hands, and selected foods-Akara, Suya and Bole. These fomites were evaluated for organisms that may pose a risk of food infection/contamination. The organisms isolated were identified based on their macroscopic, mi-croscopic and biochemical characteristics and comparison with standard reference organisms. From the results obtained, the paper currency had the highest numbers of bacterial and fungal load (too numerous to count – TNTC), food contaminated hands ranged between 12 x 105- 15 x105 cfu/g and the selected foods- Akara, Suya and Bole had 7x105- 12 x105 cfu/g. The bacteria members’ species recorded include Pseudomonas, Streptococcus pyogenes, Shigella, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, klebsiella pneumonia, Salmonella typhi, Enterobacter sp, Aeromonas hydrophila, Micrococcus luteus. Others include Clostridium sp, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Bacillus cereus. The fungal species reported include Aspergillus, Yeast, Penicillium sp. and Saccharomyces spp. Mucor sp. and Rhizopus sp. Members of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were noted to occur on all the samples surveyed. From this study, it can be deduced that handling of paper currencies by food vendors could serve as a direct and indirect pathway for man-microbe interface.

This study analyzes the literature on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure by applying a bibliometric analysis of documents published in the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis allows researchers to highlight the theoretical foundations of a specific research field, identify the main findings of previous studies, and determine future research ideas. This analysis was based on bibliometric authors’ citation analysis, bibliometric papers’ co-citation analysis, bibliometric references’ co-citation analysis, bibliometric journals’ co-citation analysis, co-occurrence keywords cartography analysis, trend and evolution analyses of ESG disclosure publications over the years, and qualitative content analysis. This study reviews 161 documents on ESG disclosure published in the Scopus database. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, evolution analysis was performed using CiteSpace, and content analysis was performed using Wordstat. The study identified four major clusters: corporate social responsibility, corporate strategy, financial performance, and environmental economics. It also highlights the increasing number of citations and documents related to ESG disclosures. In addition, the journal ‘Business Strategy and the Environment’ significantly contributes to the ESG disclosure research field in terms of number of papers and citations. Additionally, this study highlights various future research opportunities in this field. The findings of this study have practical implications for ESG disclosure, such as the impact of integrating ESG into a company’s business strategy on corporate and financial policies. This study is the only one to review key topics on ESG disclosure that can be largely used for ESG practices. This study provides an overview of how the literature on ESG disclosure has developed, as well as a summary of the most influential authors along with countries, organizations, and journal sources. This offers the opportunity for future research to focus on this topic.

India has one of the world's fastest expanding pulp and paper markets. With a growth rate of more than 10% per year in terms of per-capita growth, The pulp and paper industry requires a lot of capital investment, energy, and water. A paper mill produces 40 to 50 kg of dry sludge (70 percent primary sludge and 30 percent secondary sludge) when 1 tonne of paper is produced. Most of this sludge is now disposed of by land spreading and filling, both of which involve high disposal costs. Pulp and paper industry is one of the most polluted industries in the world in general and India in particular. India produces 10.11 million tons paper per annum which is 2.6% of world’s overall production quantity of paper. This study present using paper mill waste as a component in the manufacture of burnt bricks as a possible route to environmentally friendly construction. This research report details the findings of an experimental investigation into the production of eco-friendly, bricks using soil and paper mills. This research exhibits some increased compressive strength in mix of papermill waste.

Sensors with accurate detection of various liquids have attracted increasing research interests in environmental protection and organic solvents transporation. In this paper, liquid sensor based on laser induced graphene paper (LIGP) was proposed, and successfully used for the rapid detection of micro volume liquid. The processing-structure-property relationship was systemically studied. LIGPs with different morphologies exhibited various sensitivities and showed good reproducibility and fast response. The response mechanism related to contact resistance between some adjacent graphene flakes/fibers was proposed. With the key findings, LIGP liquid sensors can be used as the detector for accurate identification of different solvents and have great potential in monitoring organic solvent leakages of pipelines and fabrication of smart anti-corrosion composite structures.

Kojic acid is an antioxidant used by the cosmetics industry but the excessive usage of kojic acid may cause harm to human health. Therefore, it is important to detect the content of kojic acid in cosmetic products. In this work, the low-cost and simple paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) based on double-sided adhesive tape were developed for the colorimetric detection of kojic acid. The μPADs were fabricated by dissolving double-sided adhesive tape in toluene and then making the patterned adhesive tape penetrate into the filer paper. Ferric nitrate was used as the reagent to react with kojic acid, and the product of their chelating reaction caused the color change from colorless to orange-red. The ImageJ software was used to analyze the color intensity and the corresponding correction curve was determined. The μPADs for the detection of kojic acid exhibited a wide linear range (0.05 - 4 mM) and the detectable limit was 0.05 mM. The good selectivity and reproducibility were also demonstrated.

With the support of new technology, recyclable paper is capable of being both waterproof and fireproof, and it has been used in architectural design to some extent. However, there are limited studies on the use of paper materials in landscape architecture. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential of paper materials practice in landscape architecture design from both functional and aesthetic perspectives. The method includes two parts: 1. a systematic review to investigate paper’s properties and capabilities to demonstrate it is qualified as a landscape construction material; 2. Provide a prototype to illustrate how to use paper materials in a practical landscape design. This paper found that the application of paper materials in landscape architecture has the following benefits: low-cost material, easy assemble and removal, build fast, easy transport, recyclable, unique material aesthetic feeling, low technical requirement, educational. Through a systematic review and case studies, this study explored the practical application value of paper materials in landscape architecture, and provided a feasible idea and direction for the landscape architecture industry to practice the concept of sustainable development.

A biofuel cell that can generate electricity using only water is expected to be used as a new energy harvester for an emergency power supply. A new 4-series/4-parallel structured paper-substrate biofuel cell was prepared using a fuel supply paper preloaded with glucose and phosphate buffer salts. When a power generation test was conducted by supplying water to the fuel-preloaded paper, the paper-based biofuel cell produced an output approximately 90% (0.84 mW) of that obtained by supplying a phosphate buffer containing glucose as the electrolyte. The open-circuit voltage was 2.1 V, and an LED could be powered by simply supplying water to the cell without using a booster circuit.

For the past few years, the generation of the solid waste was increasing which makes the environment pollution. In such solid waste products are reused by waste management process like gasifier. The solid waste products majorly dump into the municipal wastages, the paper cup waste was regular waste from the municipalities in such waste was regular in practice. Recycling of paper cups is not easy because it has a paraffin or polyethylene plastic and also need 150 years to degrade. So far focus on the recycling of paper cup waste, which was treated to the downdraft gasifier when the producer gas formed by means of supplying compressed air to the gasifier, After that the producer gas pass with inlet air into to the combustion chamber. In this project deals the analysis of paper cup waste which characterized by using TGA, CHN analysis and also evaluated the performance of CI engine.

Recent Industry looking for paper battery with highly flexibility, easily handling and high voltage. Currently, battery occupies a large quantity of vicinity and contributes to a big part of device weight. In this paper, we use carbon nanotubes with conventional sheet of cellulose based paper as cathode, aluminum foil as anode and a polyethylene (plastic paper) of 50µm as a separator to obtain adaptability, ultra-thin electricity storage without a loss of integrity and performance. In this attempt folded anode and cathode sheets which resulted increase in voltage and achieved approximately 40% more than other paper batteries. Voltage 3.38V is achieved which is better than the preceding existing paper battery voltage.

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) is one of solid waste from crude palm oil (CPO) mill. It’s about 20-22% from fresh fruit bunches (FFB) or equal to the CPO yield. Indonesian CPO production in 2019 was 51.8 million tons; increased by 9% compared to 2018. So, about 51.8 million tons of EFB was available in 2019. EFB is a potential lignocellulosic material for pulp and paper. The utilization of EFB fibers for papermaking has been studied extensively. The use of EFB for printing and writing papers tends to cause pitch problems and poor visual appearance. The most potential use of EFB fibers is for packaging papers. EFB fiber is classified as short up to moderate fibers, so its usage must still be mixed with other fibers to improve the sheet strength. Many experiments have been done regarding the mixture of EFB fibers with other fibers such as OCC (Old Corrugated Containers) and UBC (Used Beverage Cartons) recycled fibers. Other types of paper from EFB are still being developed, including for nursery bags and active packaging papers.

The main object of the study is to research Double A’s water treatment programs to give good suggestion to other factory that face the pollution problem and analyzed the development trend of waste-water treatment. To do an integrated analysis of the environmental problems caused by printing paper production is essential for improving the understanding of effective management of the environment in Thailand. Therefore, the overall objective of this paper is to analyze the environmental pressure of the printing paper industry in Thailand, and to identify options to reduce this pressure and evaluate their cost-effectiveness.

Coconut fronds are part of a coconut tree that has been rarely used while the amount is abundant. Therefore, there is a concern of how to more utilize coconut fronds. Coconut fronds can be used as raw material for making art paper because it has good amount of fiber and cellulose. The utilization of coconut fronds for making art paper can minimize the coconut fronds waste. Additionally, it also has an impact on forest conservation, since most of raw materials for paper pulp are coming from woods in the forest. The objective of this study is to utilize coconut fronds as agricultural solid waste as raw material for making art paper. The method used to make the paper is chemical pulp, which including pulping and bleaching, as well as art paper molding. The prepared art paper was then characterized by tensile strength test, strength test stretch and grammature. The art paper samples that have been prepared met the minimum SNI grammature of 100 g/m2. While, for the best tensile resistance test was about 19,800 for sample 30/75. Meanwhile, the best stretch resistance test was 0.955 for sample 60/75.

Dynamic simulation is increasingly adopted in the preventive conservation of cultural heritage as an advanced method to investigate strategies for mitigating the climate-induced degradation. The conservation of paper collections is strongly interrelated with the relative humidity of the air, as organic-hygroscopic materials act as buffers on relative humidity fluctuations while being vulnerable to moisture-induced damage. In the dynamic simulation of the microclimate within library and archival storage facilities, it is thus fundamental to include the hygrothermal interaction between the building and its hygroscopic content. The hygroscopic behaviour of paper collections can be modelled by hygrothermal tools such as those of the HAM-family (Heat, Air and Moisture), used to simulate simultaneous heat and mass transfers through porous envelope materials. This research aims at investigating the use of the HMWall model coupled with the software IDA ICE (Indoor Climate and Energy) to simulate of the 1-D heat and moisture transfer through a single wall made of paper. A literature survey was carried out to collect the available hygrothermal properties of modern and historical papers. Sensitivity analysis was used to identify the most relevant hygrothermal parameters in the simulation of moisture gradients across the paper wall. Moreover, the number of sub-layers in the paper wall model was found to significantly affect the internal distribution of moisture gradients. The use of the HMWall model was then tested in the simulation of the hygroscopic behaviour of a single paper wall in both steady-state and transient conditions. Finally, a simplified model able to preserve the accuracy of the results was proposed with the purpose of reducing the computation effort that a high-resolution model could involve if implemented in whole buildings. This study represents the first step towards the application of the HMWall model for the simulation of the indoor climate of library repositories.
