If $X$ is a quasi Banach space containing no copy of $c_0$ which is isomorphic to a closed subspace of a space with a basis and $C(I, X)$ is linearly homeomorphic to $C(\Delta, X)$, then $X$ is locally convex, i.e., a Banach space. It is shown that Kalton result is sharp by exhibiting non locally convex quasi Banach spaces X with a basis for which $C(I, X)$ and $C(\Delta, X)$ are isomorphic. This letter solves an open question of origami paper spring risen by Yoneda et al.(Phys. Rev. E 2019). By using both dimensional analysis and data fitting, a universal scaling law of a paper spring is formulated. The scaling law shows that origami spring force obeys power square law of spring extension, however strong nonlinear to the total twist angle. The study has also successfully generalized the scaling law from the Poisson ratio 0.3 to an arbitrary Poisson's ratio with the help of dimensional analysis., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figues and 1 table

We investigate a modified spatial stochastic Lotka-Volterra formulation of the rock-paper-scissors model using off-lattice stochastic simulations. In this model one of the species moves preferentially in a specific direction -- the level of preference being controlled by a noise strength parameter $\eta \in [0, 1]$ ($\eta = 0$ and $\eta = 1$ corresponding to total preference and no preference, respectively) -- while the other two species have no referred direction of motion. We study the behaviour of the system starting from random initial conditions, showing that the species with asymmetric mobility has always an advantage over its predator. We also determine the optimal value of the noise strength parameter which gives the maximum advantage to that species. Finally, we find that the critical number of individuals, below which the probability of extinction becomes significant, decreases as the noise level increases, thus showing that the addition of a preferred mobility direction studied in the present paper does not favour coexistence., Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures

We investigate the problem of the predominance and survival of "weak" species in the context of the simplest generalization of the spatial stochastic rock-paper-scissors model to four species by considering models in which one, two, or three species have a reduced predation probability. We show, using lattice based spatial stochastic simulations with random initial conditions, that if only one of the four species has its probability reduced then the most abundant species is the prey of the "weakest" (assuming that the simulations are large enough for coexistence to prevail). Also, among the remaining cases, we present examples in which "weak" and "strong" species have similar average abundances and others in which either of them dominates -- the most abundant species being always a prey of a "weak" species with which it maintains a unidirectional predator-prey interaction. However, in contrast to the three-species model, we find no systematic difference in the global performance of "weak" and "strong" species, and we conjecture that the same result will hold if the number of species is further increased. One of the simplest examples of a robust heteroclinic cycle involves three saddle equilibria: each one is unstable to the next in turn, and connections from one to the next occur within invariant subspaces. Such a situation can be described by a third-order ordinary differential equation (ODE), and typical trajectories approach each equilibrium point in turn, spending progressively longer to cycle around the three points but never stopping. This cycle has been invoked as a model of cyclic competition between populations adopting three strategies, characterised as Rock, Paper and Scissors. When spatial distribution and mobility of the populations is taken into account, waves of Rock can invade regions of Scissors, only to be invaded by Paper in turn. The dynamics is described by a set of partial differential equations (PDEs) that has travelling wave (in one dimension) and spiral (in two dimensions) solutions. In this paper, we explore how the robust heteroclinic cycle in the ODE manifests itself in the PDEs. Taking the wavespeed as a parameter, and moving into a travelling frame, the PDEs reduce to a sixth-order set of ODEs, in which travelling waves are created in a Hopf bifurcation and are destroyed in three different heteroclinic bifurcations, depending on parameters, as the travelling wave approaches the heteroclinic cycle. We explore the three different heteroclinic bifurcations, none of which have been observed in the context of robust heteroclinic cycles previously. These results are an important step towards a full understanding of the spiral patterns found in two dimensions, with possible application to travelling waves and spirals in other population dynamics models., Comment: 36 pages, 8 figures

While 3-SAT is NP-hard, 2-SAT is solvable in polynomial time. Austrin, Guruswami, and H\r{a}stad roved a result known as "$(2+\varepsilon)$-SAT is NP-hard" [FOCS'14/SICOMP'17]. They showed that the problem of distinguishing k-CNF formulas that are g-satisfiable (i.e. some assignment satisfies at least g literals in every clause) from those that are not even 1-satisfiable is NP-hard if $\frac{g}{k} < \frac{1}{2}$ and is in P otherwise. We study a generalisation of SAT on arbitrary finite domains, with clauses that are disjunctions of unary constraints, and establish analogous behaviour. Thus we give a dichotomy for a natural fragment of promise constraint satisfaction problems (PCSPs) on arbitrary finite domains. The hardness side is proved using the algebraic approach, via a new general NP-hardness criterion on polymorphisms of the problem, based on a gap version of the Layered Label Cover problem. We present a simple resolution proof system for higher-order constrained Horn clauses (HoCHC)-a system of higher-order logic modulo theories-and prove its soundness and refutational completeness w.r.t. both standard and Henkin semantics. As corollaries, we obtain the compactness theorem and semi-decidability of HoCHC for semi-decidable background theories, and we prove that HoCHC satisfies a canonical model property. Moreover a variant of the well-known translation from higher-order to 1st-order logic is shown to be sound and complete for HoCHC in both semantics. We illustrate how to transfer decidability results for (fragments of) 1st-order logic modulo theories to our higher-order setting, using as example the Bernays-Schonflukel-Ramsey fragment of HoCHC modulo a restricted form of Linear Integer Arithmetic.

We describe a method to construct smooth and compactly supported solutions of 3D incompressible Euler equations and related models. The method is based on localizable Grad–Shafranov equations and is inspired by the recent result (Gavrilov in A steady Euler flow with compact support. Geom Funct Anal 29(1):90–197, [Gav19]).

The "Carbon Copy onto Dirty Paper" (CCDP) channel is the compound "writing on dirty paper" channel in which the channel output is obtained as the sum of the channel input, white Gaussian noise and a Gaussian state sequence randomly selected among a set possible realizations. The transmitter has non-causal knowledge of the set of possible state sequences but does not know which sequence is selected to produce the channel output. We study the capacity of the CCDP channel for two scenarios: (i) the state sequences are independent and identically distributed, and (ii) the state sequences are scaled versions of the same sequence. In the first scenario, we show that a combination of superposition coding, time-sharing and Gel'fand-Pinsker binning is sufficient to approach the capacity to within three bits per channel use for any number of possible state realizations. In the second scenario, we derive capacity to within four bits-per-channel-use for the case of two possible state sequences. This result is extended to the CCDP channel with any number of possible state sequences under certain conditions on the scaling parameters which we denote as "strong fading" regime. We conclude by providing some remarks on the capacity of the CCDP channel in which the state sequences have any jointly Gaussian distribution.

The rock-paper-scissors game is a paradigmatic model for biodiversity, with applications ranging from microbial populations to human societies. Research has shown, however, that mobility jeopardizes biodiversity by promoting the formation of spiral waves, especially if there is no conservation law in place for the total number of competing players. Firstly, we show that even if such a conservation law applies, mobility still jeopardizes biodiversity in the spatial rock-paper-scissors game if only a small fraction of links of the square lattice is randomly rewired. Secondly, we show that zealots are very effective in taming the amplitude of oscillations that emerge due to mobility and/or interaction randomness, and this regardless of whether the later is quenched or annealed. While even a tiny fraction of zealots brings significant benefits, at 5\% occupancy zealots practically destroy all oscillations regardless of the intensity of mobility, and regardless of the type and strength of randomness in the interaction structure. Interestingly, by annealed randomness the impact of zealots is qualitatively the same as by mobility, which highlights that fast diffusion does not necessarily destroy the coexistence of species, and that zealotry thus helps to recover the stable mean-field solution. Our results strengthen the important role of zealots in models of cyclic dominance, and they reveal fascinating evolutionary outcomes in structured populations that are a unique consequence of such uncompromising behavior., Comment: 6 two-column pages, 4 figures; accepted for publication in Physical Review E

We consider (N,r) games of predation with N species and r < N prey and predators, acting in a cyclic way. Further basic reactions include reproduction, decay and diffusion over a regular grid, without a hard constraint on the occupation number per site, so in a "bosonic" implementation. For special combinations of N and r and appropriate parameter choices we observe games within games, that is, different coexisting games, depending on the spatial resolution. As concrete and simplest example we analyze the (6,3) game. Once the players segregate from a random initial distribution, domains emerge, which effectively play a (2,1)-game on the coarse scale of domain diameters, while agents inside the domains play (3,1) (rock-paper-scissors), leading to spiral formation with species chasing each other. As the (2,1)-game has a winner in the end, the coexistence of domains is transient, while agents inside the remaining domain coexist, until demographic fluctuations lead to extinction of all but one species in the very end. This means that we observe a dynamical generation of multiple space and time scales with emerging re-organization of players upon segregation, starting from a simple set of rules on the smallest scale and changed rules from the coarser perspective. These observations are based on Gillespie simulations. We discuss the deterministic limit derived from a van Kampen expansion. The linear stability analysis predicts the number of forming domains, their composition in terms of species; it also explains the instability of interfaces between domains, which drives their extinction; spiral patterns are identified as motion along heteroclinic cycles. The numerical solutions reproduce the observed patterns of the Gillespie simulations including even extinction events, so that the mean-field analysis here is very conclusive, which is due to the specific implementation of rules., 21 pages main text, 16 pages supplementary material (merged)

We show that bounded self-contracted curves are rectifiable in metric spaces with weak lower curvature bound in a sense we introduce in this article. This class of spaces is wide and includes, for example, finite-dimensional Alexandrov spaces of curvature bounded below and Berwald spaces of nonnegative flag curvature. (To be more precise, our condition is regarded as a strengthened doubling condition and holds also for a certain class of metric spaces with upper curvature bound.) This moisture model contains closures for the phase changes condensation and evaporation, as well as the processes of auto conversion of cloud water into rainwater and the collection of cloud water by the falling rain droplets. It has been used by Klein and Majda in [17] and corresponds to a basic form of the bulk microphysics closure in the spirit of Kessler [16] and Grabowski and Smolarkiewicz [12]. The moisture balances are strongly coupled to the thermodynamic equation via the latent heat associated to the phase changes. In [14] we assumed the velocity field to be given and proved rigorously the global existence and uniqueness of uniformly bounded solutions of the moisture balances coupled to the thermodynamic equation. In this paper we present the solvability of a full moist atmospheric flow model, where the moisture model is coupled to the primitive equations of atmospherical dynamics governing the velocity field. For the derivation of a priori estimates for the velocity field we thereby use the ideas of Cao and Titi [6], who succeeded in proving the global solvability of the primitive equations.

The sample paths of white noise are proved to be elements of certain Besov spaces with dominating mixed smoothness. Unlike in isotropic spaces, here the regularity does not get worse with increasing space dimension. Consequently, white noise is actually much smoother than the known sharp regularity results in isotropic spaces suggest. An application of our techniques yields new results for the regularity of solutions of Poisson and heat equation on the half space with boundary noise. In convex integer programming, various procedures have been developed to strengthen convex relaxations of sets of integer points. On the one hand, there exist several general-purpose methods that strengthen relaxations without specific knowledge of the set S of feasible integer points, such as popular linear programming or semi-definite programming hierarchies. On the other hand, various methods have been designed for obtaining strengthened relaxations for very specific sets S that arise in combinatorial optimization. We propose a new efficient method that interpolates between these two approaches. Our procedure strengthens any convex set containing a set S⊆ { 0 ,1 } n by exploiting certain additional information about S. Namely, the required extra information will be in the form of a Boolean formula ϕ defining the target set S. The new relaxation is obtained by “feeding” the convex set into the formula ϕ. We analyze various aspects regarding the strength of our procedure. We investigate the techniques and ideas used in the convergence analysis of two proximal ADMM algorithms for solving convex optimization problems involving compositions with linear operators. Besides this, we formulate a variant of the ADMM algorithm that is able to handle convex optimization problems involving an additional smooth function in its objective, and which is evaluated through its gradient. Moreover, in each iteration we allow the use of variable metrics, while the investigations are carried out in the setting of infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces. Aggregate signatures are used to create one short proof of authenticity and integrity from a set of digital signatures. However, one invalid signature in the set invalidates the entire aggregate, giving no information on which signatures are valid. Hartung et al. (2016) propose a fault-tolerant aggregate signature scheme based on combinatorial group testing. Given a bound $d$ on the number of invalid signatures among $n$ signatures to be aggregated, this scheme uses $d$-cover-free families to determine which signatures are invalid. These combinatorial structures guarantee a moderate increase on the size of the aggregate signature that can reach the best possible compression ratio of $O(\frac{n}{\log n})$, for fixed $d$, coming from an information theoretical bound. The case where the total number of signatures grows dynamically (unbounded scheme) was not satisfactorily solved in their original paper, since explicit constructions had constant compression ratios. In the present paper, we propose efficient solutions for the unbounded scheme, relying on sequences of $d$-cover-free families that we call {\em nested families}. Some of our constructions yield high compression ratio close to \rmv{the information theoretical bound}\todo{the best known upper bound}. We consider 2- or 3-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations defined on a bounded domain $\Omega$, with no-slip boundary conditions and subject to an external force, assumed to cause instability. We then seek to uniformly stabilize such N-S system, in the vicinity of an unstable equilibrium solution, in critical $L^q$-based Sobolev and Besov spaces, by finite dimensional feedback controls. These spaces are `close' to $L^3(\Omega)$ for $d=3$. This functional setting is significant. In fact, in the case of the uncontrolled N-S dynamics, extensive research efforts have recently lead to the space $L^3(\mathbb{R}^3)$ as being a critical space for the issue of well-posedness in the full space. Thus, our present work manages to solve the stated uniform stabilization problem for the controlled N-S dynamics in a correspondingly related function space setting. In this paper, the feedback controls are localized on an arbitrarily small open interior subdomain $\omega$ of $\Omega$. In addition to providing a solution of the uniform stabilization problem in such critical function space setting, this paper manages also to much improve and simplify, at both the conceptual and computational level, the solution given in the more restrictive Hilbert space setting in the literature. We propose a model-based approach to the model checking problem for recursive schemes. Since simply typed lambda calculus with the fixpoint operator, lambda-Y-calculus, is equivalent to schemes, we propose the use of a model of lambda-Y-calculus to discriminate the terms that satisfy a given property. If a model is finite in every type, this gives a decision procedure. We provide a construction of such a model for every property expressed by automata with trivial acceptance conditions and divergence testing. Such properties pose already interesting challenges for model construction. Moreover, we argue that having models capturing some class of properties has several other virtues in addition to providing decidability of the model-checking problem. In 1981, Foias, Guillop\'e and Temam proved a priori estimates for arbitrary-order space derivatives of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. Such bounds are instructive in the numerical investigation of intermittency often observed in simulations, e.g., numerical study of vorticity moments by Donzis et al. (2013) revealed depletion of nonlinearity that may be responsible for smoothness of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation. We employ an original method to derive analogous estimates for space derivatives of three-dimensional space-periodic weak solutions to the evolutionary equations of diffusive magnetohydrodynamics. Construction relies on space analyticity of the solutions at almost all times. An auxiliary problem is introduced, and a Sobolev norm of its solutions bounds from below the size in $C^3$ of the region of space analyticity of the solutions to the original problem. We recover the exponents obtained earlier for the hydrodynamic problem. The same approach is also followed here to derive and prove similar a priori bounds for arbitrary-order space derivatives of the first-order time derivative of the weak MHD solutions. A famous conjecture of Parkin-Shanks predicts that $p(n)$ is odd with density $1/2$. Despite the remarkable amount of work of the last several decades, however, even showing this density is positive seems out of reach. In a 2018 paper with Judge, we introduced a different approach and conjectured the "striking" fact that, if for any $A \equiv \pm 1\ (\bmod 6)$ the multipartition function $p_A(n)$ has positive odd density, then so does $p(n)$. Similarly, the positive odd density of any $p_{A}(n)$ with $A\equiv 3\ (\bmod 6)$ would imply that of $p_3(n)$. Our conjecture was shown to be a corollary of an earlier conjecture of the same paper. This paper deals with the polynomial linear system solving with errors (PLSwE) problem. Specifically, we focus on the evaluation-interpolation technique for solving polynomial linear systems and we assume that errors can occur in the evaluation step. In this framework, the number of evaluations needed to recover the solution of the linear system is crucial since it affects the number of computations. It depends on the parameters of the linear system (degrees, size) and on a bound on the number of errors. Our work is part of a series of papers about PLSwE aiming to reduce this number of evaluations. We proved in [Guerrini et al., Proc. ISIT'19] that if errors are randomly distributed, the bound of the number of evaluations can be lowered for large error rate. In this paper, following the approach of [Kaltofen et al., Proc. ISSAC'17], we improve the results of [Guerrini et al., Proc. ISIT'19] in two directions. First, we propose a new bound of the number of evaluations, lowering the dependency on the parameters of the linear system, based on work of [Cabay, Proc. SYMSAC'71]. Second, we introduce an early termination strategy in order to handle the unnecessary increase of the number of evaluations due to overestimation of the parameters of the system and on the bound on the number of errors.

In this paper, we advance an ideal-theoretic analogue of a "finite factorization domain" (FFD), giving such a domain the moniker "finite molecularization domain" (FMD). We characterize FMD's as those factorable domains (termed "molecular domains" in the paper) for which every nonzero ideal is divisible by only finitely many nonfactorable ideals (termed "molecules" in the paper) and the monoid of nonzero ideals of the domain is unit-cancellative, in the language of Fan, Geroldinger, Kainrath, and Tringali. We develop a number of connections, particularly at the local level, amongst the concepts of "FMD", "FFD", and the "finite superideal domains" (FSD's) of Hetzel and Lawson. Characterizations of when $k[X^2, X^3]$, where $k$ is a field, and the classical $D+M$ construction are FMD's are provided. We also demonstrate that if $R$ is a Dedekind domain with the finite norm property, then $R[X]$ is an FMD.

The prescription exploits a known construction of the finite Blaschke products of given degree which satisfy some interpolation conditions with the aid of a Pick matrix formed from the interpolation data. It is known that if $x= (x_1, x_2, x_3)$ is a rational tetra-inner function of degree $n$, then $x_1 x_2 - x_3$ either is identically $0$ or has precisely $n$ zeros in the closed unit disc $\overline{\mathbb{D}}$, counted with multiplicity. This paper considers prior-independent mechanism design, in which a single mechanism is designed to achieve approximately optimal performance on every prior distribution from a given class. Most results in this literature focus on mechanisms with truthtelling equilibria, a.k.a., truthful mechanisms. Feng and Hartline (2018) introduce the revelation gap to quantify the loss of the restriction to truthful mechanisms. We solve a main open question left in Feng and Hartline (2018); namely, we identify a non-trivial revelation gap for revenue maximization. Our analysis focuses on the canonical problem of selling a single item to a single agent with only access to a single sample from the agent's valuation distribution. We identify the sample-bid mechanism (a simple non-truthful mechanism) and upper-bound its prior-independent approximation ratio by 1.835 (resp. 1.296) for regular (resp. MHR) distributions. We further prove that no truthful mechanism can achieve prior-independent approximation ratio better than 1.957 (resp. 1.543) for regular (resp. MHR) distributions. Thus, a non-trivial revelation gap is shown as the sample-bid mechanism outperforms the optimal prior-independent truthful mechanism. This paper investigates the output feedback boundary control of reaction-diffusion equations with either distributed or boundary measurement by means of a finite-dimensional observer. A constructive method dealing with the design of finite-dimensional observers for the feedback stabilization of reaction-diffusion equations was reported in a recent paper in the case where either the control or the observation operator is bounded and also satisfies certain regularity assumptions. In this paper, we go beyond by demonstrating that a finite-dimensional state-feedback combined with a finite-dimensional observer can always be successfully designed in order to achieve the Dirichlet boundary stabilization of reaction-diffusion PDEs with a either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary measurement., Comment: Accepted for publication in Automatica

Polynomial factorization in conventional sense is an ill-posed problem due to its discontinuity with respect to coefficient perturbations, making it a challenge for numerical computation using empirical data. As a regularization, this paper formulates the notion of numerical factorization based on the geometry of polynomial spaces and the stratification of factorization manifolds. Furthermore, this paper establishes the existence, uniqueness, Lipschitz continuity, condition number, and convergence of the numerical factorization to the underlying exact factorization, leading to a robust and efficient algorithm with a MATLAB implementation capable of accurate polynomial factorizations using floating point arithmetic even if the coefficients are perturbed.

This paper presents a systematic study for abstract harmonic analysis on classical Banach spaces of covariant functions of characters of compact subgroups. It is also proven that $$L^q_\xi (G,H)$$ L ξ q ( G , H ) is isometrically isomorphic to the dual space $$L^p_\xi (G,H)^*$$ L ξ p ( G , H ) ∗ , where q is the conjugate exponent of p. This paper presents a one-sided immersed boundary (IB) method using kernel functions constructed via a moving least squares (MLS) method. The resulting kernels effectively couple structural degrees of freedom to fluid variables on only one side of the fluid-structure interface. This reduces spurious feedback forcing and internal flows that are typically observed in IB models that use isotropic kernel functions to couple the structure to fluid degrees of freedom on both sides of the interface. The method developed here extends the original MLS methodology introduced by Vanella and Balaras (J Comput Phys, 2009). Prior IB/MLS methods have used isotropic kernel functions that coupled fluid variables on both sides of the boundary to the interfacial degrees of freedom. The original IB/MLS approach converts the cubic spline weights typically employed in MLS reconstruction into an IB kernel function that satisfies particular discrete moment conditions. This paper shows that the same approach can be used to construct one-sided kernel functions (kernel functions are referred to as generating functions in the MLS literature). We also examine the performance of the new approach for a family of kernel functions introduced by Peskin. It is demonstrated that the one-sided MLS construction tends to generate non-monotone interpolation kernels with large over- and undershoots. We present two simple weight shifting strategies to construct generating functions that are positive and monotone, which enhances the stability of the resulting IB methodology. Benchmark cases are used to test the order of accuracy and verify the one-sided IB/MLS simulations in both two and three spatial dimensions. This new IB/MLS method is also used to simulate flow over the Ahmed car model, which highlights the applicability of this methodology for modeling complex engineering flows., Comment: In Press, Journal of Computational Physics (2021)

A nonlinear Markov chain is a discrete time stochastic process whose transitions depend on both the current state and the current distribution of the process. The nonlinear Markov chain over an infinite state space can be identified by a continuous mapping (the so-called nonlinear Markov operator) defined on a set of all probability distributions (which is a simplex). In the present paper, we consider a continuous analogue of the mentioned mapping acting on L 1 -spaces. Main aim of the current paper is to investigate projective surjectivity of quadratic stochastic operators (QSO) acting on the set of all probability measures. To prove the main result, we study the surjectivity of infinite dimensional nonlinear Markov operators and apply them to the projective surjectivity of the considered QSO. Furthermore, the obtained results are applied to the existence of the positive solution of some Hammerstein integral equations.

It is well known that, whenever $k$ divides $n$, the complete $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices can be partitioned into disjoint perfect matchings. Equivalently, the set of $k$-subsets of an $n$-set can be partitioned into parallel classes so that each parallel class is a partition of the $n$-set. This result is known as Baranyai's theorem, which guarantees the existence of \emph{Baranyai partitions}. Unfortunately, the proof of Baranyai's theorem uses network flow arguments, making this result non-explicit. In particular, there is no known method to produce Baranyai partitions in time and space that scale linearly with the number of hyperedges in the hypergraph. It is desirable for certain applications to have an explicit construction that generates Baranyai partitions in linear time. Such an efficient construction is known for $k=2$ and $k=3$. In this paper, we present an explicit recursive quadrupling construction for $k=4$ and $n=4t$, where $t \equiv 0,3,4,6,8,9 ~(\text{mod}~12)$. In a follow-up paper (Part II), the other values of~$t$, namely $t \equiv 1,2,5,7,10,11 ~(\text{mod}~12)$, will be considered.

In the paper we compute the virtual dimension (defined by the Hilbert polynomial) of a space of hypersurfaces of given degree containing $s$ codimension 2 general linear subspaces in $\mathbb{P}^n$. Several results in the existing literature establish Euclidean density theorems of the following strong type. These results claim that every set of positive upper Banach density in the Euclidean space of an appropriate dimension contains isometric copies of all sufficiently large elements of a prescribed family of finite point configurations. So far, all results of this type discussed linear isotropic dilates of a fixed point configuration. In this paper we initiate the study of analogous density theorems for families of point configurations generated by anisotropic dilations, i.e., families with power-type dependence on a single parameter interpreted as their size. More specifically, here we prove nonisotropic power-type generalizations of a result by Bourgain on vertices of a simplex, a result by Lyall and Magyar on vertices of a rectangular box, and a result on distance trees, which is a particular case of the treatise of distance graphs by Lyall and Magyar. Another source of motivation for this paper is providing additional evidence for the versatility of the approach stemming from the work of Cook, Magyar, and Pramanik and its modification used recently by Durcik and the present author. Let $Q$ denote MacLane's $Q$-construction, and $\otimes$ denote the smash product of spectra. In this paper we construct an equivalence $Q(R)\simeq \mathbb Z\otimes R$ in the category of $A_\infty$ ring spectra for any ring $R$, thus proving a conjecture made by Fiedorowicz, Schw\"anzl, Vogt and Waldhausen in "MacLane homology and topological Hochschild homology". More precisely, we construct is a symmetric monoidal structure on $Q$ (in the $\infty$-categorical sense) extending the usual monoidal structure, for which we prove an equivalence $Q(-)\simeq \mathbb Z\otimes -$ as symmetric monoidal functors, from which the conjecture follows immediately. From this result, we obtain a new proof of the equivalence $\mathrm{HML}(R,M)\simeq \mathrm{THH}(R,M)$ originally proved by Pirashvili and Waldaushen in "MacLane homology and topological Hochschild homology" (a different paper from the one cited above). This equivalence is in fact made symmetric monoidal, and so it also provides a proof of the equivalence $\mathrm{HML}(R)\simeq \mathrm{THH}(R)$ as $E_\infty$ ring spectra, when $R$ is a commutative ring., Comment: 26 pages

We study the asymptotic distribution of CM points on the moduli space of elliptic curves over $\mathbb{C}_p$, as the discriminant of the underlying endomorphism ring varies. In contrast with the complex case, we show that there is no uniform distribution. In this paper we characterize all the sequences of discriminants for which the corresponding CM points converge towards the Gauss point of the Berkovich affine line. We also give an analogous characterization for Hecke orbits. In 1900, at the international congress of mathematicians, Hilbert claimed that the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$ is not the solution of any algebraic ordinary differential equations on its region of analyticity. In 2015, Van Gorder considered the question of whether $\zeta(s)$ satisfies a non-algebraic differential equation and showed that it formally satisfies an infinite order linear differential equation. Recently, Prado and Klinger-Logan extended Van Gorder's result to show that the Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$ is also formally satisfies a similar differential equation \begin{equation*}\label{HurDE} T\left[\zeta (s,a) - \frac{1}{a^s}\right] = \frac{1}{(s-1)a^{s-1}}. \end{equation*} But unfortunately in the same paper they proved that the operator $T$ applied to Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,a)$ does not converge at any point in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$. In this paper we investigate the property (HLUR), a generalisation of (LUR) property of a Banach space. A Banach space having the property (HLUR) is called an HLUR space. We characterise (HLUR) property with the help of known geometric properties and study various properties of HLUR spaces. We show that for any finite dimensional Banach space, the property (HLUR) coincides with anti-Daugavet property of the space. Let $\mathcal G$ denote the space of finitely generated marked groups. We give equivalent characterizations of closed subspaces $\mathcal S\subseteq \mathcal G$ satisfying the following zero-one law: for any sentence $\sigma$ in the infinitary logic $\mathcal L_{\omega_1, \omega}$, the set of all models of $\sigma$ in $\mathcal S$ is either meager or comeager. In particular, we show that the zero-one law holds for certain natural spaces associated to hyperbolic groups and their generalizations. As an application, we obtain that generic torsion-free lacunary hyperbolic groups are elementarily equivalent; the same claim holds for lacunary hyperbolic groups without non-trivial finite normal subgroups. In a paper of Kedlaya and Medvedovsky [KM19] , the number of distinct dihedral mod 2 modular representations of prime level N was calculated, and a conjecture on the dimension of the space of level N weight 2 modular forms giving rise to each representation was stated. In this paper we prove this conjecture.

In this paper we consider developable surfaces which are isometric to planar domains and which are piecewise differentiable, exhibiting folds along curves. The paper revolves around the longstanding problem of existence of the so-called folded annulus with multiple creases, which we partially settle by building upon a deeper understanding of how a curved fold propagates to additional prescribed foldlines. After recalling some crucial properties of developables, we describe the local behaviour of curved folding employing normal curvature and relative torsion as parameters and then compute the very general relation between such geometric descriptors at consecutive folds, obtaining novel formulae enjoying a nice degree of symmetry. We make use of these formulae to prove that any proper fold can be propagated to an arbitrary finite number of rescaled copies of the first foldline and to give reasons why problems involving infinitely many foldlines are harder to solve., Comment: 22 pages, 11 figures, 1 appendix

The problem corresponds to double phase anisotropic phenomena, in the sense that the differential operator has various types of behavior like | ξ | q ⁢ ( x ) - 2 ⁢ ξ {|\xi|^{q(x)-2}\xi} for small | ξ | {|\xi|} and like | ξ | p ⁢ ( x ) - 2 ⁢ ξ {|\xi|^{p(x)-2}\xi} for large | ξ | {|\xi|} , where 1 < α ⁢ ( ⋅ ) ≤ p ⁢ ( ⋅ ) < q ⁢ ( ⋅ ) < N {1 . Our aim is to approach variationally the problem by using the tools of critical points theory in generalized Orlicz–Sobolev spaces with variable exponent. Our results extend the previous works [A. Azzollini, P. d’Avenia and A. Pomponio, Quasilinear elliptic equations in ℝ N \mathbb{R}^{N} via variational methods and Orlicz–Sobolev embeddings, Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations 49 2014, 1–2, 197–213] and [N. Chorfi and V. D. Rădulescu, Standing wave solutions of a quasilinear degenerate Schrödinger equation with unbounded potential, Electron. J. Qual. Theory Differ. Equ. 2016 2016, Paper No. 37] from cases where the exponents p and q are constant, to the case where p ⁢ ( ⋅ ) {p(\,\cdot\,)} and q ⁢ ( ⋅ ) {q(\,\cdot\,)} are functions. We also substantially weaken some of the hypotheses in these papers and we overcome the lack of compactness by using the weighting method.
