Background. It has been shown that the available therapeutic agents do not eliminate the consequences of miotic pathologies in chronic alcoholism, the most significant of which are disturbances in the dynamics of muscle contraction. A positive effect of biocompatible water-soluble C60 fullerenes on the contraction parameters of damaged muscles has been established. In addition, administration of C60 fullerene aqueous solution during chronic alcoholization of rats protects muscle tissue from damage caused by oxidative stress. Materials and Methods. Biomechanical parameters such as the values of the minimum and maximum contraction force and the muscle force impulse were evaluated using tensometry. The blood levels of creatine phosphokinase and lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine and lactate as well as the level of oxidative processes in muscle tissue of experimental animals (content of hydrogen peroxide, activity of catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) as markers of muscle damage were determined using methods of biochemical analysis. Results. The C60 fullerene aqueous solution effect on the skeletal muscle contraction dynamics in rats after chronic alcoholization for 9 months and cessation of alcohol consumption for 1 month was investigated. It was established that water-soluble C60 fullerenes (daily dose of 1 mg/kg) reduce the effects of chronic alcoholization by 35–40±2 % on the studied biomechanical parameters and by 20±1 % on the studied biochemical parameters compared to the group of alcoholized animals, thus increasing the energy capabilities of the muscular system. Conclusions. The obtained data indicate a pronounced protective effect of C60 fullerenes on the muscle soleus contraction dynamics during the development of alcoholic myopathy, which opens up the potential possibility of their use for the prevention and correction of miotic damage.

The balance of protein production and consumption in muscles depends to a large extent on normal mitochondrial function. Mitochondrial dysfunction is inseparable from the occurrence of myopathy. This study explores the relationships between statin-induced myopathy, steroid myopathy, and skeletal muscle illness caused by alcohol addiction, as well as the relationship between these conditions and mitochondrial abnormalities. Web of Science (WOS) central archive was analyzed for alcoholic myopathy research papers from 1999 to 2021, CiteSpace and WOS databases were used for evaluation the number of written articles, distribution of publications by region, research organizations, co-cited lit-erature analysis, and keyword identification. A total of 1,255 publications were collected after screening, with the number of published articles continually increasing. The annual average number of publications is 54.56. Six countries publish the majority of the literature. The United States has published 383 papers in total, which places it first among all countries. It also has the most centrality, meaning that other countries value its scientific achievements more. There are 34 core authors and 238 papers published. Through cluster analysis, there are 9 categories that are significant clusters. Key words of co-occurrence research show that keywords such as nanoparticles, apoptosis, mitochondrial disorders, and inflammation are very common.

Myopathy of the skeletal muscles is caused by excessive misuse of ethanol and affects half to two-thirds of pathological alcohol abusers. It is possible to identify alcohol-induced skeletal muscle disruptions as either 'acute or chronic'. Medium to moderate alcohol has positive or defensive effects (such as cardiovascular) on some organ systems, but long-term drinking and acute toxicity can adversely impact multiple organ systems and potentially increase mortality. Therefore we need a detailed understanding of the study status of alcoholic myopathy. References for researching alcoholic myopathy can be given by the review of this article. Search the Web of Science (WOS) central archive for alcoholic myopathy research papers from 2000 to 2020, and use CiteSpace and WOS databases for their own literature statistics techniques to evaluate the number of written articles, research organizations, citations to literature and identification of keywords. A total of 947 publications were collected after screening and the number of articles published grew year by year. The average number of released publications is 47.355. Most documents have been released by a total of 7 countries. Among them, 397 papers were published by the US, ranked first among all nations. Its intermediate centrality is also the largest, suggesting that other countries have more recognition of its scientific findings. The papers published by Emory Univ and Kobe Univ are well regarded in the field, among the top 7 academic institutions with publication volumes. There are 28 core authors and a total of 263 written articles. Highly cited papers are classified into 40 categories, of which 11 are prominently clustered categories. Co-occurrence study of keywords reveals that keywords such as skeletal muscle, oxidative stress, ethanol, alcohol, etc. are very common. The literature on alcoholic myopathy is primarily focused in Western countries, and autophagy, ROS and antioxidants are the latest study hotspots.
