Having an important place in the liberation and establishment of Republican Türkiye, Maraş not only serves as a bridge from the past to the present with its culture and history, but also is located in a transition zone in Anatolia geographically and geologically. The current characteristics of the province have brought about natural disasters and other developments that affect every area, from social life to economic order. Various disasters of geological and meteorological origin have occurred in Kahramanmaraş in many periods of history. As a result of the disasters, loss of life and property occurred in the region and province. In this study, the natural disasters that occurred in Maraş between 1923 and 1960, when the economic structure was still based on old methods and techniques and the land used in agriculture reached its largest limit, and the effects of these disasters on the economic life will be discussed. During the study, primarily the Prime Ministry Republic Archive, TUIK sources, Maraş press, other works on the province and region, and sources on the period were used. The holistic risk assessment model defines vulnerabilities that may vary depending on the type of hazard in the urban settlement. This model aims to identify the priority issues that need improving across the entire city and the spatial distribution of these issues. The paper describes the physical risk assessment phase of the model. The model emphasizes evaluating natural events such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and climatic events together. The pairwise comparison method through the literature review has defined the criteria and weights selected for the model, and the susceptibility, vulnerability, and risk mapping are made using a weighted sum model through geographic information systems. Risk size is assigned a numeric value from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest. In conclusion, the paper provides physical risk distribution mapping of Kırklareli Central district, the study area, based on each hazard type. The paper also defines the multi-hazard risk, combining maps with the weighted sum. Determining the characteristics of ground motions in a wide period range of 0.1 to 10 seconds is crucial for seismic risk assessment. Eskişehir province, with a population of approximately one million and a developing industry is a high seismic risk region despite its relatively low seismic activity due to rapid urbanization. Determining seismic velocities and bedrock depths is important for reducing urbanization and earthquake risks. This study was conducted to obtain this information. The research, supported by 7 and 8 network measurements performed at 15 different points in total in 2017 and 2018, allowed the determination of the Vs structure up to depths of 600-700 m using microtremor measurements with the single-station Horizontal/Vertical spectral ratio (H/V) method and network measurements with the SPAC (Spatial Autocorrelation) method. The data obtained were used to create a subsurface depth model using inverse solution methods. Engineering bedrock was detected at depths of 100-250 m and velocities of 500-800 m/s for shallow sections using small and large network/array measurements in the middle of the Eskişehir plain. S-wave velocities ranging from 1100 m/s in the west to 1800 m/s in the east and seismological bedrock at an average depth of 600-800 m were determined. Microtremor studies show bedrock depths that deepen from west to east and south to north, reaching 800 m at the deepest point. The Vs velocity of the seismological bedrock obtained from surface wave dispersion curves varies between 1200- 1800 m/s. In conclusion, detailed geological and geophysical analyses are of vital importance for seismic risk assessments and hazard analyses in the Eskişehir basin and similar areas. The geography of Turkey has been exposed to various natural disasters for centuries, resulting in significant loss of life and property. Similar to worldwide trends, floods are among the most devastating natural disasters in Turkey immediately following earthquakes. Riverbeds swollen by occasional heavy rains have caused extensive damage to surrounding settlements and agricultural areas by overflowing. Factors such as urban planning errors, lack of necessary precautions in riverbeds, and weak infrastructure have contributed to the transformation of floods into disasters in Izmir during the early years of the Republic. The city of Izmir, liberated from enemy occupation in 1922, had to contend with earthquake and flood disasters before fully recovering from its wounds. Among the floods experienced in Izmir, the one in 1930 stands out as the one causing the most loss of life and property and remains entrenched in people's memories. In this disaster, although the exact number is not determined, more than 117 people perished, thousands were affected by the flood, and damages amounted to millions of lira. The aim of this study is to examine the causes, effects, and consequences of the 1930 Izmir flood disaster from the perspective of natural disaster history. When it comes to disaster situations, disasters are mostly considered to be physical phenomena. However, disasters are a social phenomenon as well as a physical phenomenon. The fact that disasters are a social phenomenon requires examining them from a sociological perspective. Disasters, with the crises they cause, are like a social laboratory for sociology, which emerges with the search for solutions to the crises of modern society. Based on this reality, the present study examines disasters in the context of certain sociological concepts. In the study, disaster readings on the axis of mass panic, solidarity, conflict and gender, which are frequently used concepts in the sociological evaluation of disasters, are included. These sociological perspectives on disasters explain how disasters do not have a single dimension but can lead to situations that may conflict with each other simultaneously. While in studies focusing on mass panic, it is emphasized that the first reaction immediately after disasters is mass panic, which leads to social disintegration; in studies focusing on solidarity, it is emphasized that the behavioral pattern that emerges immediately after the earthquake is more cooperation and that disasters lead to strong altruistic norms in people. In studies focusing on evaluation on the axis of conflict, interests and the political dimension of the disaster are discussed, and it is emphasized that conflict will be inevitable in the allocation of blame and the allocation of resources. Studies examining the effects of disaster on men and women in the context of gender roles, based on the vulnerability paradigm, it is emphasized that women and men are not equally affected by disasters and that women are mostly in a disadvantaged position. The aim of this study is to examine the population development in TRC1, TRC2 and TRC3 level-2 regions in the period from 2007 to 2023. In the study, TURKSTAT data and descriptive method were used. The crude birth and death rates, total fertility rate and net migration rate data, which affect population growth, were also examined. TRC1, TRC2 and TRC 3 level-2 regions are located in the Southeastern Anatolia (TRC) level-1 region. Today, although the net migration rate is negative in all three regions, the population is generally increasing. This is due to the relatively high total fertility rate. Between 2007 and 2023, the population growth rate was 29% in the TRC1 region, 35% in the TRC2 region and 27% in the TRC3 region. While the annual population growth rate took positive values in three regions in the 2007-2022 period, this value took a negative value in the TRC1 level-2 region between 2022 and 2023 as a result of the increase in migration due to the effect of the February 6 earthquake. In other words, the population of the TRC1 region decreased between 2022 and 2023. It is noteworthy that in all three level-2 regions, the crude birth rate, total fertility rate and natural population growth rate have gradually decreased in recent years. Considering the recent trend, population growth is expected to continue in all three regions in the coming years. Near-fault earthquakes with high amplitude, long-period pulses have a destruction potential for seismically isolated buildings. Since the number of historical near-fault earthquake records is not sufficient for comprehensive studies, synthetic pulse models can be used to simulate these records. The effectiveness of different pulse models has been investigated for seismically isolated structures; however, in these studies lead core heating, which is known to have significant effects in near-fault earthquakes, was not taken into account. In this study, in order to investigate the success of pulse models in determining the seismic response of isolated buildings exhibiting lead core heating under the effect of near-fault earthquakes, nonlinear time history analyses were performed under historical near-fault earthquakes and synthetically produced counterpart ground motion records. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of the two major earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, on the activities of foreign trade companies operating in Malatya province and to offer solutions to the problems experienced. In regions where natural disasters occur, negative developments such as increased business operation costs, problems in finding qualified employees, and decreased productivity in production cause investment concerns, and this prevents investors' desire to invest in these regions. Two major earthquakes, which occurred 9 hours apart on February 6, 2023, negatively affected many provinces, as well as the province of Malatya, especially economically. Since the economy of the region is based mostly on foreign trade activities of agricultural products, foreign trade figures showed a negative trend after the earthquake, but started to recover over time. In this study, the problems experienced by foreign trade companies operating in Malatya after the earthquake were discussed and solutions to these problems were tried to be offered. In the literature study, it was determined that the problems experienced by foreign trade companies after the earthquake were generally similar, and the same problems were encountered in the analyzes made in Malatya. It has been determined that the problems experienced by foreign trade companies after the earthquake in Malatya province are primarily financial problems, production, logistics, customer relations and the inability to plan the future. On February 06, 2023, a major earthquake swarm occurred in Turkey. The earthquake was the main topic of social network posts after this event, which caused deep sadness across the country. Research has proven that social networks can be used as an important source for understanding public opinion in the face of real events. One of these networks, X (Twitter), is an important tool for sharing situations, opinions, requests for help and information, especially in natural disasters such as earthquakes. Although there are earthquake disaster analysis studies based on these posts, which are a rich source of data, more case studies are needed to verify the effectiveness of earthquake analysis methods. The aim of this study is to conduct descriptive analyses to determine the agenda, tendency and behavior of the public through tweets shared on network X during the earthquake storm. In this context, an application was developed using python language and libraries. With this application, in the first stage, a data set was created by retrieving 2,643,481 tweets containing the word "earthquake" in the X network between February 5-12, 2023. In the next stage, descriptive analyses were performed and results were obtained and these results were presented using data visualization tools. Earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters around the world and can cause loss of life and property. In this case, posters are needed as a mass communication tool within the scope of social awareness. Earthquake awareness posters are the posters prepared to inform the public in case of disaster and to show ways and methods of protection. These posters contain information such as what to do before, during and after the earthquake, precautions to be taken and emergency contact numbers. In this article, the communication role of posters is examined within the scope of visual culture. The connection analysis on the earthquake posters the information included in the posters and the design language displayed for the perception of this information are evaluated in terms of communication. The starting point of the study is the earthquake that hit 11 provinces in Turkey on February 6, 2023. In order to provide a theoretical basis for the scope of the study, the literature review method, which has an important role in social science studies, is used. The data required to achieve the purpose determined in the research are obtained by scanning the literature and combining the obtained information by the researchers. In the research, it is concluded that making earthquake awareness posters only on anniversaries or on certain dates related to the subject is not sufficient to raise public awareness, and that designs for these and similar issues should be enriched in all areas of life within the scope of lifelong education philosophy. In the first quarter of the XX century, the titles that emerged based on the political relations between the Ottoman Empire and Italy were the Tripoli War, World War I, and the Italian invasion attempt in Anatolia afterward. Italy-Ottoman relations could settle on the grounds of amity after Italy occupied Libyan lands under Ottoman rule in 1911. During the First World War, the two countries fought between the enemy alliances, and after the war, Italian troops took part in the Anatolian lands occupied by the Allied Powers. However, when we look at the years just before these developments, some developments, which can be evaluated within the scope of humanitarian and friendship relations between the Ottoman Empire and Italy in connection with a natural disaster, draw attention. The earthquake and the tsunami that occurred on December 28, 1908, the epicenter of the Strait of Messina, located at the southern end of Italy, became a complete disaster for the region's people. The region was severely damaged by the earthquake in the morning, and the tsunami waves that hit the land for a short time after the shaking further increased the impact of the disaster. After this earthquake, in which 60,000 people lost their lives and many settlements, especially the cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria, became almost uninhabitable, many countries extended a helping hand to Italy, providing medical aid, shelter, food, and other assistance. In this context, the Ottoman Empire took action immediately after the earthquake news reached Istanbul and decided to help Italy. This study explores the humanitarian aid that the Ottoman Empire delivered to Italy to heal the disaster survivors' wounds after the 1908 Messina earthquake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On February 6th, 2023, at 04:17, our country was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of Mw=7.7. The epicenter was Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş. About nine hours later, at 13:24, a second earthquake with a magnitude of Mw=7.6 occurred in Elbistan, Kahramanmaraş. After the earthquakes, 11 cities in the region were declared as disaster zones. According to the data of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, it has been determined that 582 thousand independent sections and 202 thousand buildings in the region are to be demolished immediately, heavily damaged or demolished. In this article, as a result of the investigations made in the earthquake effected regions, which started on the day of the earthquake and lasted for 5 days, the problems that caused the collapse of reinforced concrete buildings were explained in a hierarchical triangle, in the order of importance. Insufficient development length, end of the stirrups not bent at 135°, problems with the materials, lack of confinement regions at the ends of columns and beams, strong beam-weak column, etc. It has been observed that these problems constitute a significant part of the collapses. The study aims to determine how the university students conceptually perceive the housing, which is the building group most affected by the destruction in the cities that were largely destroyed after the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. In the survey conducted with the participation of a total of 183 students who experienced earthquakes, felt shaking and did not experience an earthquake; they were asked to indicate which concepts the earthquake, the house before the earthquake and the house after the earthquake evoked in their minds. When students are told “earthquake”, the concept of fear/panic comes to the fore in a very dominant way. The top 10 most repeated associations in the formation of the “earthquake” image in the minds of the students are listed as fear/panic, destruction/disaster, death, shaking/concussion, debris/destruction, anxiety, loss, despair, darkness, and pain. When students are told “residence/house before earthquake”, the top 10 most repeated associations in total are listed as safety/safe space, living/living space, family, peace/comfort, home, sheltering/shelter, warm/sincere, belonging, take refuge/asylum, durable/resistant. When students are told “housing/house after earthquake”, fear/panic, durable/resistant, insecurity, debris/destruction, anxiety, family, ruin, living/living space, grave, trust are found to be sorted. As a result, it is thought that the associations and results revealed by these analyzes will contribute to the sensitivity and recovery of an earthquake survivor or an individual with fear of earthquakes when they need psychological support. In addition, it is expected to shed light on the solid and trust-building designs and plans that the individual and society expect for the formation of their physical environment. In an earthquake, damage to property and life can occur with the damage or collapse of buildings. The persons who are responsible for these damages should be discussed scientifically according to Islamic law and the religious information about the responsible persons should be presented to the service of people. Otherwise, due to lack of information or false information, those responsible people may not be aware of their responsibilities, which may cause people to behave incorrectly and encounter unfavorable results, especially in the hereafter. Based on this, the article deals with the responsibility for the damages to property and life, which are caused by the buildings and damages to buildings themself in the earthquake from the point of view of Islamic law. These explanations refer that one of the leading benefits of the study, which shows the importance of the study, is that it makes a substantial contribution to the solving problem of compensation of the damages occurred by the building in the earthquake by determining who is responsible and what is the extent of the responsibility. The aim of the article is to motivate those who are stakeholders in building construction to build earthquake-resistant buildings by providing them with an awareness of religious responsibility, thus to prevent the damages that will occur in the earthquake as much as possible. While dealing with the subject, first of all, the sources were reached by following the documentation method, then the opinions and their evidences in these sources were analyzed and the fiqh provisions were tried to be determined by inductive and deductive methods. As a result, it was found that the persons who caused the building to be indurable to the earthquake by affecting the durability of the building with an illegitimate act during the construction stages of the building were responsible for the damages caused by the earthquake in the building, the properties and lives inside and outside the building, and if there is no such situation, the responsibility will belong to the owners of the property and life. Earthquakes can destroy companies' infrastructures, supply chains, business lifelines, and the human capital necessary for entrepreneurship, leading to a decrease in regional employment and, over time, to the economic collapse of the region. This study aims to reveal the effects of the February Earthquakes on the entrepreneurial activities and labour force indicators of eleven provinces. The article calculates the impact of earthquakes on current entrepreneurial activities by obtaining the number of private workplaces, the number of enterprises and the number of newly established companies representing the entrepreneurial potential of the provinces from institutions such as SGK, TÜİK and TOBB. The study first calculates the change rates of monthly published data compared to the same period of the previous year, and then uses this to calculate the average number of enterprises of the provinces in 2023. It uses a similar approach in calculating employment and unemployment numbers. Findings show that earthquakes have a devastating effect on provincial entrepreneurial activities. Earthquakes cause a monthly average decrease of 39 thousand in the number of private workplaces and a total of 125 thousand enterprises to be closed by the end of 2023. These losses mean that an average of 262 thousand insured employees will be laid off per month, and 585 thousand people will be unemployed by 2023. Due to its geographical conditions, our country regularly faces the reality of natural disasters, especially earthquakes. Considering that most of the loss of life and property is caused by earthquakes and this region is shaken by a devastating earthquake in an average of five years, earthquake disaster comes first in terms of precautions to be taken. It is of great importance to be able to predict earthquakes in order to determine the precautions that can be taken for earthquakes. In this context, earthquake prediction studies with machine learning have gained momentum in recent years. In this study, earthquake predictions were made using an earthquake catalog and a data set combining geological and geodetic data. This data set is divided into test and training data in order to train the algorithm models used in the study and to measure the performance of the trained models. By using random forest, extreme gradient boosting, decision tree and k nearest neighbor regression algorithms, the models were trained with the training set and the trained models were tested with the test data. Analysis results were compared and evaluated. According to the analysis results, random forest and extreme gradient increment regression algorithms were the algorithms with the most successful results. When the mean square error (MSE) values are examined, the best results are observed in the data set consisting of earthquake information, strains and fault information. In Türkiye, various types of disasters, both natural and man-made, are observed. Among these disasters, earthquakes are the most frequently discussed type of natural disaster in urban areas due to the damages it causes. It is an essential decision determinant, from determining spatial developments to building production techniques. It is also prominent in prevention and risk reduction actions and plans. Regulations have changed after almost every disaster in our country. As a result of decisions related to this practice, spatial change in cities has been facilitated. Laws and practices that will render cities resilient have found their place in urban and national agendas. While many lives were lost in the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes, one of the biggest disasters of the century, which took place on February 06, 2023, in Türkiye, cities were also physically destroyed. The earthquake was a disaster in which bad scenarios, such as the impact of more than one city, which are among the possible predictions of the plans prepared at the national level spatially, and the interruption of transportation after the disaster, took place. The study tried to reveal the spatial distribution of the impact and damage detection rates and discussed the earthquake in the centennial year of the Republic through the February 06 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes. For this examination, the damage status data declared for 21 provinces by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change through the e-government system Damage Detection Query and Objection Procedures page between May 1, 2023, and May 31, 2023, was first obtained. Among these obtained data, initial assessments before the objection process were spatialized and compared proportionally. As a result, this major disaster that occurred in the 100th year of the Republic of Türkiye, which will guide the subsequent processes, highlights the necessity of reconsidering the approaches to disaster management that have evolved in parallel with the disaster history experienced during the century. In Turkey, urban transformation applications have been taking place rapidly in a wide range of legislation in recent years, and these applications cause widespread criticism that the focus of transformation is rent. The purpose of the article; The aim of this study is to focus on the problems experienced in the risky building detection and planning phase and project design phase in parcel-based housing-axis urban transformation applications carried out in six streets of Bağdat Caddesi Erenköy District located within the borders of Kadıköy district, and to reveal these problems in the context of actors and urban transformation stages. Within the scope of the method; The historical process analysis of the study area was made, and the examination of the 2017 Kadıköy Municipality Strategic Area Report was useful in determining the elements and actors in the process. As part of the field study, interviews were held in order to understand the transformation processes of eight buildings in Erenköy District. According to the data obtained, it has been determined that problems are frequently encountered during the risky building detection and planning phase and the project design phase. At the beginning of the problems that cause disputes are the contractors signing contracts for the works that they cannot actually perform due to the land rent-oriented requests from the flat owners and the inability to complete the process due to the cost burden. Another troublesome situation caused by the aforementioned requests is that the contractors do not accept the conditions and the structures determined as risky structures are waiting before they can be transformed. These demands, which focus on parcel scale rent expectation, clog the transformation processes and increase the urban risks for a possible earthquake. After industrialization, advancements in construction technologies and the rural-to-urban migration that began in the 1950s have led to the transformation of historical city centers. This transformation resulted in the construction of high-rise apartment buildings in proximity, replacing low-rise residential areas. These practices have caused the disappearance of public spaces and increased population density in historical city centers. Over time, the vitality of city centers has diminished, turning them into low-quality, declining areas. Within the scope of building stock, this decay has made these areas more vulnerable and less resistant to disasters. As a result, projects have been prepared for the renewal of these areas, the protection of historical areas and the restoration of the lost vitality in the city centers. Strategies are produced and generally enacted within the scope of sustaining the life span of cities on the slums, increasing welfare, and acquiring building blocks. These places are the Gölcük Earthquake in 1999, the Van Earthquake in 2011 and the earthquake that occurred in the Kahramanmaras in 2023 with serious damage in Hatay, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, and Malatya; demonstrates the importance of overcoming the vulnerability of disaster risk. It is aimed to analyse the built environment and to contribute to the disposal of the evacuations obtained from the analysis, based on the idea that the houses built before 1960 and after 1966 in Amasya, where there is an earthquake in the 1st degree region in this region. The two axes of the order buildings in the working environment, the building floor structure, land use, building quality and construction type analyses and field visuals were made. By evaluating the results obtained within the scope of wear performance, suggestions were made for planning and design practices to minimize the vulnerable in the event of a limited earthquake. The Van Museum has artifacts that are dated back to perihistoric and past-historical civilizations era. These cultural assets were collected by the Van National Education Director in 1932. By the time the Van Museum was founded all collected artifacts were moved to the Van Museum and recorded in 1945. The artifacts were crafted by different civilizations that lived in that area, however most of them belonged to Urartians which were exhibited by the opening of the museum in 1972. The construction of the new museum, which started after the 2011 earthquake, was restructured according to the conditions of the age and service practices started again in 2019. When you visit the Museum, you can see there are numerous seals which are the inheritances of The Ottoman Empire. They are among the most important pieces of The Museum. The seals can be divided into groups as personal, official, foundation and talisman. There are 39 pieces of seals in The Van Museum. 10 of them were examined as offical seals. They were made of brass, copper, silver, bronze, gunmetal etc. They also were examined according to their period, meterial, tecnique, ornament form, type of writing. Besides, Turkish Islamic art was used for seals such as thulluth, ta'lik, rik'a and local script. The seals also have handles in various shape which are foldable or fixed. Hakkas, who went through a long education process in the Ottomans and brought together many difficult arts such as ornament, literature, engraving, produced important works, and it possible to see their artworks in The Museum. Masonry structures are a building system that has been used by people throughout history. These structures are made by connecting walls together using materials such as natural stones, bricks and concrete blocks. The use of masonry structures in urban centers has declined in recent years. However, they are still used in rural areas. The earthquake resistance of masonry structures is lower than other structures. In this study, buildings completed in Afyonkarahisar were modeled and analyzed using the STA4CAD program. After the analysis, the compliance and performance of the buildings with the new principles specified in the Türkiye Building Earthquake Code 2018 were evaluated. In addition, the effects of changes in the compressive strength of the bricks and mortar used in wall construction on the capacity of the building were examined. It has been observed that the increase in mortar compressive strength has a more effective effect on the increase in performance in masonry buildings than the increase in brick compressive strength.
