- Abstract
Personality traits are attitudes and behavioural patterns shaped by hereditary and environmental influences and can change how an individual perceives himself and his environment. It has social, psychological, economic, and anatomical effects on the individual’s life. This study aims to examine the effect of personality traits of university students on their nutrition patterns, body perception and anthropometric measurements. The sample of research comprises 200 (100 females and 100 males) Başkent University students. According to the results of the research, it was determined that females showed more extroverted and harmonious personality traits than male, and males had more prejudices against obesity (p <0.05). Neuroticism personality traits negatively affect body satisfaction; it was concluded that the personality traits of extraversion, openness to experience, and responsibility positively affected body satisfaction. While a weak correlation was detected between personality traits and some anthropometric features, a high correlation was found between the self-perception sub-dimension against obesity and anthropometric features. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between school children's sleep problems and their nutrition habits and anthropometric measurements. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 484 children aged 7-14 years attending three primary schools and three secondary schools in the city center of Muğla province. Data were collected using the child data form and the child sleeping habit questionnaire. The obtained results were analyzed using Student's t-test, chi-square test, and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: It was determined that 72.9% of the children participating in this study had sleep problems, among which 83% of the underweight and normal weight children and 17% of the overweight and obese children had sleep problems. It was determined that children who ate or drank drinks in the last two hours before going to sleep had more sleep problems (p<0.05). There was a low level of positive and significant correlation between body mass index (BMI) and sleep duration and parasomnia, waist circumference and sleep duration, and neck circumference and sleep duration and parasomnia. Conclusion: In this study, no difference was found between the sleep problems of children who consumed healthy or unhealthy food, whereas those who ate close to sleep or consumed liquid had more sleep problems. While children's BMI, waist circumference and neck circumference increased, their sleep duration also increased. More parasomnia was observed in children with higher BMI and neck circumference. ANTHROPOMETRY - Abstract
In this study, as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, the work of Ord. Prof. Dr. Şevket Aziz Kansu, who is considered the founder of Anthropology in our country and the first rector of Ankara University, titled “ Guide for Anthropometric Techniques “ published by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Turkey in 1937, is presented in facsimile. The institutional history of Anthropology in Turkey began with the establishment of the “Turkey Anthropology Research Center” at the Istanbul Darülfünunu Faculty of Medicine. Subsequently, this center was relocated to Istanbul University Faculty of Science and later to Ankara University Faculty of Language, History, and Geography. In 1937, under the directive of Atatürk, the “Turkey Anthropometry Survey” was carried out, encompassing 64,000 men and women, with the participation of various experts. As part of this study, Prof. Dr. Şevket Aziz Kansu conducted theoretical and practical courses at the Anthropology Institute between June 11 and June 19, 1937, and prepared the booklet “ Guide for Anthropometric Techniques “ for the researchers involved in the survey. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the Wingate anaerobic test (WAnT) performance in athletes and sedentary individuals, within the scope of five-second segments. A second goal was to explore the relationship between physical characteristics and WAnT performance. Thirteen well-trained male athletes (23.31 ± 2.06 years) and 13 sex-matched healthy sedentary individuals (22.84 ± 1.99 years) volunteered. Participants first completed demographic and anthropometric measurements. They then attended a laboratory session to perform the 30-second WAnT (WAnT-30) on a cycle ergometer (Monark Wingate Ergometer model 834E). The test load was adjusted to 7.5% of the body mass. The peak power (PP) related to WAnT-30 and mean power (MP) outputs of each five-second segment were collected using the ergometer software after performing the test. WAnT-30 PP and all five-second segment MP outputs were higher in the athletes compared to the sedentary individuals (p < 0.001). A positive correlation was observed between WAnT-30 PP and each five-second segment of MP outputs in athletes (p < 0.05; r = 0.594 - 0.970), but this correlation was not observed after the 3rd segment in the sedentary individuals. Body height and body weight were identified as the best predictor variables for WAnT-30 performance in the simple regression model (R2 = 0.362 - 0.689 and R2 = 0.457 - 0.590 respectively). These findings indicated that athletes had higher power outputs than sedentary individuals across all segments of WAnT-30. Additionally, it was revealed that an all-out anaerobic test performance could be affected by physical characteristics in athletes. Future research should include different segment intervals in participants from specific sports to better evaluate anaerobic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of biological maturity and relative age on physical fitness and sport-specific skills in young futsal players. The study included 58 male athletes in the age group of 12 years who participated in futsal games in school sports. The age of the study group was 12.57 ± 0.26 years, the average height was 158.74 ± 8.48 cm, and the body weight was 50.15 ± 9.25 kg. After determining the relative age, maturity status, height, and body weight of the study group according to their birth months, they were asked to participate in a hand strength test, a vertical jump test, a sit-stand test, a 30-metre sprint test, a 505 mobility test, a push-up test, and a sit-up test. A significant difference was found in the values of height, body weight, right and left hand grip strength, vertical jump test, sit-stand flexibility test, 30 m sprint test, 505 agility test, push-up test, and sit-up test in young male futsal players who were born in the first months of the year and matured early compared to athletes who were born in the last months of the year and matured late. As a result of our study, it was found that futsal players born in the first months of the year or matured early were taller and heavier than futsal players born in the last months of the year or matured late. It was also found that these athletes have better performance scores than their peers born in the last months of the year or matured later.

Background: The patency rate of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts used in patients with modified right lobe implants in Living Donor Liver Transplantation (CVKN) was evaluated over time. In addition, factors affecting patency rate, problems that may develop after early occlusion, and possible graft-related complications were examined. Materials and Methods: 168 patients aged between 17-74 who underwent surgery in 2013-15 were included in the study. Venous phases of Multislice Computed Tomography (MSCT) taken during postoperative follow-ups were analyzed retrospectively. The occlusion times of the PTFE grafts used in the patients and the congestion in the segment drained by these grafts were evaluated. Graft-related complications, Graft Recipient Weight Ratio (GAAO) values, and postoperative 1-month laboratory findings were also included in the study. Results: The patency rate of the PTFE graft used was lower when compared to the cryoprecipitated graft studies. There was no significant difference between graft localization and patency time. There was no significant correlation between the patients' height, weight, BMI, liver graft weight (KGA) and graft recipient weight ratio (GAAO) and initial congestion, first occlusion, and time of all vein occlusion. A correlation was found between GAAO values and patency times of thrombosed grafts during follow-up. There was no significant relationship between the PTFE graft diameter used and the patency time. The patency status according to the reasons for transplantation was also examined, but no significant difference was found. Conclusions: Due to the high early patency rate of PTFE grafts, they can be used for reconstruction purposes only in the absence of cryoprecipitated grafts, but keeping in mind the current complication potential. Introduction: Malnutrition is held responsible for more than 50% of death in childhood. Malnutrition in children, who is so sick that hospitalization is needed, is much more serious since effecting length of stay, morbidity, mortality, quality of life and costs. In this study, we aimed to examine the relationship between malnutrition and nutritional status of hospitalized children during admission together with some demographic factors set by us. Materials and Methods: In this study, 293 children aged 1 month to 18 years old who were hospitalized and monitored in Child Health and Disease Department in Meram Medical Faculty Hospital of Necmettin Erbakan University between November 2014 and January 2015 were included. The survey type information form prepared to collect data about the socio-demographic factors was filled with the consent of the family. Results: Of the 293 cases, 117 (39.9%) were girls, 176 (60.1%) were boys, and the age range was 1 month to 18 years, with a mean age of 5.97±5.59 years. The average weight of the patients was 22.46±23.71 kg, the average height was 101.59±37.82 cm, and the average body mass index was 16.33±3.42. Malnutrition was not stated in any case. Out of 293, in 154 (52.5%) cases acute malnutrition according to Gomez classification was detected immediately during admission. Out of 293, in 84 (28.6%) patients acute malnutrition according to Waterlow classification was detected immediately during admission. Out of 293, in 131 (44.7%) patients chronic malnutrition was detected immediately during admission. Conclusion: The nutritional risk with child patients during their admissions to our hospital is 52.5% according to Gomez classification, and 28.6% according to Waterlow classification. Hospitalization of children does not have a negative impact on their nutritional status, and unfortunately does not reduce the frequency of high malnutrition which is the main cause of morbidity and of mortality. There is a need to raise awareness of the health professionals about this subject. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the compliance of outdoor equipment elements in Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Karacaoğlan Campus with ergonomic standards. In line with its purpose, the study was carried out in 3 stages using observationbased data collection, analysis-based classification, and synthesis method. In the first stage, the dimensions of the seating units, garbage bins, information boards, lighting units, stairs, pedestrian paths, and sidewalks from the equipment elements in the Campus were measured, and it was evaluated whether they comply with ergonomic standards by comparing them with anthropometric data in the light of Turkish Standards Institution and literature information. In the evaluation, the suitability of the equipment elements according to their material, place of use, purpose, and function was also considered. In the second stage of the research, a survey was conducted using the “Semantic Differentiation Scale” to measure the user perception of the students on campus. A random survey was conducted with 375 individuals by face-to-face interview method. Questionnaires were evaluated with IBM SPSS Statistics software. As a result of the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that the most important ergonomic problems on the Campus were related to pavement heights, information board sizes, and floor coverings. Suggestions for the problems identified for each equipment element are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, it was aimed to examine the body composition, anthropometric and strength parameters of level cadet male cyclists at the national team level and to evaluate the relationship between the body composition, anthropometric and strength parameters. A total of 28 cadet male cyclists (age: 14.92±0.76, height:170,52±5.54, weight:60.47±5.59) participated in the study. Anthropometric characteristics of the subjects; height, body weight, body fat percentage, body mass index, skinfold thickness were measured, body fat percentage was determined using the “Yuhasz” formula, and motoric characteristics such as right and left handgrip strength, back strength and leg strength were measured. The analysis of the data was made in the SPSS statistical program and evaluated with the Pearson Correlation test. The result of the study, body fat percentage (8.949±1,104) and body mass index (20,786±1.555) were found. It was determined that the right handgrip strength (42,553±5,862), left handgrip strength (40.535±5,864), back strength (119,839±15,442) and leg strength (134,125±21,833) of the cadet cyclists were found. In addition, when the difference between handgrip strengths of the cyclists was examined, it was seen that the right hand was dominant. While there was a significant and positive correlation between body weight and right & left handgrip strength and back strength (r=0.478, p=0.01; r=0.405, p=0.032; r=0.409, p=0.031); it was determined that there was no correlation between body weight and leg strength (p>0.05). In addition, while there was an average significant and positive correlation was found between body mass index and only right handgrip strength (r=0.417, p=0.027), it was found that there was no significant correlation between age, height, fat ratio and strength parameters (p>0.05). As a result; this study showed that cadet cyclists have good hand grip, back and leg strength, and there is a significant correlation only between body weight and handgrip strength values, among the anthropometric characteristics. However, it was determined that there was no significant correlation between and anthropometric characteristics and leg strength, which is important for cyclists.

Aim:Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) are at high risk of vitamin D deficiency (VDD). The prevalence of VDD in different countries is between 65-100% in these patients. The present study was undertaken to find the prevalence of VDD among sickle cell children and to assess the association of co-morbidities with VDD.Materials and Methods:Total 89 children who were attending a sickle cell clinic/admitted to paediatric wards of a Tertiary Care Centre were enrolled in this study. After their history, clinical examination and anthropometry were investigated, samples were taken for serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D ng/mL and calcium level assessment. The outcome was morbidity in sickle cell children in terms of frequency of pain episodes, number of febrile episodes, number of blood transfusions and total number of admissions. Results:Out of 89 cases, 58 (65.17%) cases were deficient in vitamin D (30 ng/dL). The mean vitamin D level was 19.42ng/dL. Morbidity in SCD was more in VDD children compared to vitamin D sufficient children with significance in the number of pain episodes and the total number of hospital admissions but not in the number of admissions for acute febrile illness or the total number of blood transfusions. Conclusion:VDD was prevalent in 65.17% of children with SCD. Children between 4-12 years were more affected with a male predominance. As this study involved children with SCD alone, future studies need to be carried out involving children without SCD to establish a better possible link between vitamin-D and SCD morbidity.

FISHER discriminant analysis , *DIAGNOSTIC sex determination , *RECEIVER operating characteristic curves , *OTTOMAN Empire , *ANTHROPOMETRY , *SEX discrimination - Abstract
Sex estimation from skeletons is an important analysis to construct a biological profile of an unidentified skeletal remains. Triangle area is calculated with linear measurements taken from the skull, and models are being developed for sex estimation. The aim of this study was to derive discriminant function equations from two triangles in the skull. The material of the study consists of the skulls of 112 individuals (56 males and 56 females) which are dated to the Late Ottoman Period and collected from the Istanbul Karacaahmet Cemetery. Six linear measurements were taken from the skulls of this series of known sex, and the facial and occipital triangle areas were determined by the Heron formula. TEM, rTEM, R coefficients and ICC were calculated to determine the intra-observer and inter-observer error. The sex discrimination power of each criterion was evaluated by ROC curve analysis. T-test was used to determine the differences between the sexes, and discriminant function analysis was used to create formulas. In the study, it was determined that the intra-observer and inter-observer error rates of 6 measurements were low (TEM = 0.16-0.94 mm; rTEM = 0.74- 2.08%; R = 0.91-0.99; ICC = 0.951-0.992). All variables differed significantly between sex (p<0.05). According to the ROC analysis, the sex discrimination power of the triangle areas was similar (AUC; occipital triangle area 0.727, facial triangle area 0.736). As a result of the present study, it was determined that the 4 equations established correctly classified sex at rates ranging from 67% to 73.2%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRIME scene searches , *CRIME scenes , *FORENSIC anthropology , *TIME of death , *ANTHROPOMETRY , *DEATH certificates , *CRIME - Abstract
Bone remains associated with forensic cases have an important place in solving the crime and finding the perpetrator. With the help of anthropological remains that can be found in the crime scene, it is possible to determine the biological characteristics of the victim to whom the remains belong, such as gender determination, age estimation, height estimation and race, as well as DNA studies. In such cases where Forensic Anthropology is used, the excavation, recovery and preservation of bone remains found at the crime scene, as well as documentation of them with photographs and drawings will contribute to answering many questions such as the identity of the individual, the cause of death, and the time of death. During these procedures, making the right interventions and reaching as much as possible of the skeletal finds and having the least damage play an important role in the clarification and resolution of the forensic case. In this study, a checklist has been created for crime scene investigation teams while collecting forensic anthropological evidence as to what to do at the crime scene and what they can do to protect the evidence. This list, which has been created for convenience in terms of repeatability, aims to provide planned action at the crime scene and to give an idea to the crime scene investigators about the appropriate collection and transportation of the skeletal remains in the absence of an anthropologist. There is no Forensic Anthropological Finding Collection Kit in the inventories of the units performing Crime Scene Investigation in Turkey. While the Crime Scene Investigation Kits are designed, the basic principle is to create hand-held, functional equipment containing materials in remote and hard-to-reach places. For this purpose, Forensic Anthropological Evidence Excavation Kit and Evidence Packages for Bones have been created to be used during the interventions to such cases. It is evaluated that this kit will facilitate correct interventions in cases where forensic anthropological evidence is present and will provide ease of use and time savings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to examine the relation between certain anthropometric characteristics and strength and vertical jump performance of elite wrestlers. 16 athletes wrestling in different clubs participated in our research. Average age of the wrestlers was 23,62 ± 244, while their average height was 177,31 ± 5,18 and their average weight is 86,45 ± 14,91. In determining the anthropometric measurements of the subjects, height, body weight, skin fold thickness, circumference and diameter measurements were made. For measurement of strength parameters, claw strength was measured with a Takkei brand hand dynamometer, while back and leg strength was measured with a back and leg dynamometer. An electronic smart speed lite system was used to measure the vertical jump performance of the athletes. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationship between anthropometric measurements and strength parameters and vertical jump ratios, and values with p

BIRTH weight , *BODY weight , *TURKS , *GROWTH of children , *STATURE , *GIRLS , *BIRTH size - Abstract
Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate growth in children aged 1-2 years. Methods: In this study conducted with 302 children and their mothers, data on children and their families were obtained using a questionnaire. Z-scores were determined by measuring the weight and height of the children, and these were compared with percentile curves developed for Turkish children. Energy and macronutrient consumption were determined by taking a daily food consumption record for each child. Results: The average age, birth weight and height of children were 18.6±3.2 months, 3.2±0.5 kg and 50.0±2.3 cm, respectively. Their current weight and height were determined as 11.4±1.6 kg and 80.6±6.5 cm. It was observed that 85.6% of the children had normal body weight, 69.5% normal BMI and 56.2% normal height z score. It has been determined that body weight and height z-scores are higher in girls compared to boys (22.1%, 32.6% and 24.7% respectively in + 2SD). Body weights of children with high monthly income were also found to be significantly higher (15.6% in + 2SD, p=0.038). Conclusions: It has been concluded that the standards, gender and the economic status of the family in this age period are effective on childrens' growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
