Recently, hospitals around the world have been taking important steps to improve their sustainable environmental practices and minimize their negative effects on the environment while providing health services. In this context, in Türkiye, the "Zero Waste Regulation" was published in 2019 and it was reported that all institutions and organizations should gradually establish, document, and implement the "Zero Waste Management System" (ZWMS) until 31 December 2022. "Zero Waste", which is a full system approach to prevent waste, takes the generation of waste under control through recycling and reuse; it focuses on restructuring and improving production and/or service systems to reduce waste. With the publication of the Zero Waste Regulation, health institutions and organizations took on important responsibilities in the fight against the epidemic, due to the first cases of COVID-19 at the global level. For this reason, the majority of health institutions had to complete their transition to ZWMS during the pandemic period. It is necessary for the hospital management to implement ZWMS, which will help prevent, reduce, and recycle waste by including the patient and their relatives, especially the hospital staff. In order to ensure the continuity of this system, it is important to establish ZWMS policies and to create "Corrective and Preventive Actions-CPA" by constantly checking the practices on site. The effectiveness of ZWMS will be primarily ensured by preventing the generation of waste. In addition, the success of waste reduction, recycling, and recovery efforts will play an important role in this process. Processing and monitoring the waste instantly in the system according to its type and amount on a unit basis, comparing it with the data of previous years and questioning the unusual waste movements will increase the effectiveness of ZWMS policies. The aim of this study is to increase the awareness of health personnel on this issue, together with the concepts and models that will contribute to a better understanding of ZWMS, which is still in the implementation phase, in health institutions, and to offer suggestions to health managers on how to improve the quality of health care provided by ensuring sustainability. - Abstract
The amount of waste increases on a global scale due to the rapid consumption that occurs with the increasing population. Uncontrolled disposal of waste poses a threat to the environment and human health. This threat can be overcome by proper waste management practices. In addition, the contribution to sustainable development goals and transition to a circular economy is possible by these proper practices. Zero waste management concept has emerged for these purposes in the global arena. However, the establishment of the zero waste management system may be subject to the faulty practices and failures when zero-waste is a relatively new concept for a country. Permanent solutions can be developed by investigation of the applications on-site for clarification of the challenges faced. This study investigated waste segregation and reduction applications on zero waste in the Ministry of National Education Central Building as a case of public institutions. The failures for the fulfilment of the requirements for a system regarding zero waste were determined through on-site studies carried out between October 2022 and June 2023 and solutions were developed regarding these failures. The results indicated that zero waste practices are mainly vulnerable to failures of individual-related and management problems. Landfills are among the important parameters in the disposal and recycling of solid wastes. In many countries, in the management of solid wastes, with the transition from the wild storage method to the regular landfill system, it has aimed to protect the natural environment, reduce the risks of infectious diseases that will endanger the health of all living things, and provide positive economic contributions by recycling wastes. In this study, it is aimed to examine the Solid Waste Landfill Facility in Balıkesir province and to investigate its impact on the environment. In this regard, the information obtained from the relevant institutions and field researches at the disposal and recycling of urban solid wastes has been examined. As a result of the study, it was concluded that, by converting domestic wastes into energy with appropriate technical processes, a total of 43,747 MW/month of energy was produced in 2020 and 56,272 MW/month in 2021, and the energy needs of 50,000 households were met with this energy. When the vegetable solid wastes are examined at the facility, a total of 615.80 kg of compost was produced in the first eight months of 2022. In the study, it was also seen that domestic and medical wastes increased between 2019-2021 and the most important reason for this increase was the COVID-19 pandemic process. In the examinations made, it was revealed that the carbon footprint that emerged during the transportation of solid wastes to the facility increased every year. Along with all these results, the positive and negative effects of Balıkesir Regular Solid Waste Facility on the city are clearly stated at the end of the study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study aims to develop a numerical model to predict the fresh concrete properties of waste concrete produced using earthquake demolition wastes and fly ash with high accuracy. For this purpose, a series of 24 waste concretes with different cement dosages, water-to-cement ratios, and fly ash replacement ratios were produced. Slump tests were performed on the produced concrete series to determine the fresh concrete properties. Considering the obtained slump values and mix quantities, statistical analyses were performed on the response surface method, and a numerical model was developed. The coefficient of determination of the developed model is 0.97, and the prediction results are quite good. At the same time, it is thought that the use of fly ash as a supplementary cementitious material by replacing cement with fly ash and the use of earthquake demolition wastes as coarse aggregate provides great advantages in terms of sustainable development and circular economy. Due to changes in air pollution, rising temperatures, flooding, drought, and the development of vector-borne diseases, anthropogenic climate change is one of the most serious threats to human health in the twenty-first century. Hospital healthcare services contribute to environmental pollution by emitting carbondioxide and other greenhouse gases, which are responsible for a significant amount of climate change. Operating rooms are the most highly resource-intensive component of a hospital, using significant quantities of waste as well as three to six times the amount of electricity as the rest of the facility. The goal of this review is to evaluate the environmental implications of inhalation and intravenous anesthetics, as well as waste and energy consumption in the operating room, and to provide practical recommendations for reducing these impacts. One of the main issues arising from OIZs, often used as manufacturing hubs for nations, is industrial waste. As part of the industrialization movement, it is important to adopt processes/products and approaches that are environmentally friendly, minimize waste generation and have a low carbon and water footprint. Industrial symbiosis and circular economy, which are currently popular topics, are some of the important steps taken within the framework of waste management. This study discusses the level of awareness, industrial waste management plans and calculation of annual waste generation among the companies and employees of the Niğde Bor Mixed and Leather Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (BORKOSB) in the Bor district of Niğde province. Günümüzde, inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının artan miktarı nedeniyle ülke ekonomileri birçok zorlukla karşı karşıya gelmektedir. Döngüsel ekonomilerde inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşüm faaliyetlerinin daha önemli rol oynaması beklenmektedir. Buna paralel olarak inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşümü ülkelerin rekabet gücünü doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu çalışma inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşüm faaliyetlerini gerçekleştiren işletmelerin performanslarını değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. İşletmelerin performanslarını değerlendirmek için kullanılan kriterler detaylı bir literatür taraması yapılarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmanın alternatiflerini ise inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşüm faaliyetlerini gerçekleştiren işletmeler oluşturmaktadır. Belirlenen kriterlerin ağırlıklandırılmasında Step-Wise Weight Assesment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) kullanılmıştır. Kriter ağırlıklarının belirlenmesinin ardından inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşüm faaliyetlerini gerçekleştiren işletmelerin performansı Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına dayalı olarak, inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüşümünde en önemli kriter Sürdürülebilirlik olarak belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca çalışma çevresel etkiler ile inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının taşınması kriterlerinin sırasıyla diğer önemli kriterler olduğunu göstermektedir. EDAS yönteminin sonucu ise Alternatif 5 işletmesinin inşaat ve yıkım atıklarının geri dönüştürülmesi açısından en iyi performansa sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.

In addition to the natural resources of the countries, the evaluation of wastes has had a significant impact on the competitiveness of the economy in recent years. Especially the recycling of wastes generated because of industrial production and their use in different sectors both provide economic benefits by reducing the need for primary raw material use and contribute to the prevention of the negative environmental effects of these wastes. In this study, the potential of use of steel slag, which is produced as a by-product in steel production facilities, in different areas, which will contribute to the national economy through recycling, has been evaluated. When the characteristics of the slag formed during the production of steel, which is an important resource of the Turkish economy, are examined, it has been observed that it is suitable for use in many areas. Studies have shown that the slag formed because of steel production can generally be used instead of natural aggregate. It has been evaluated that this material can be used at an acceptable level in many areas such as road construction, cement and concrete production, coastal and port structures, railway construction, fertilizer, and grit production. Wastes are among the most significant problems encountered in the modern world. Considering the harmful effects of wastes on the environment and human life, the necessity of waste management becomes even clearer. Nonetheless, waste management is a complicated process that involves several different operations and concerns multiple stakeholders. Thus, for facilities to be able to achieve successful waste management, it is first needed to reveal the critical success factors in waste management. The purpose of this study, which starts with this consideration, is to determine the critical success factors that are required for successful waste management at facilities and investigate the relationships among these factors using the DEMATEL method. In the study, nine critical success factors are determined by utilizing expert opinions. A survey that includes these nine factors is applied with 13 managers working at different firms, and the DEMATEL method is used to identify the causality relationships among these factors. According to the results of the study, the effective factors are found as upper management support, training, sensitivity/awareness, regulations, budget, and participation of the stakeholders. As a result of socioeconomic developments and climate change, the "take-use-dispose" approach, which started with the industrial revolution and became widespread with the effect of the global economy, confer to interrupt the sustainability of resources. The circular economy model, which is developed as an alternative to the traditional linear economy model, includes the use of resources for the longer time within a new context of "reduce-reuse-repairrefurbish-remanufacture-recycle and recover" approach. Waste management is one of the main tools of this paradigm, which adopts an environmentally friendly development approach. Waste management, aiming to generate value from waste, target at reducing waste and reintroducing waste to the economy as a resource. This approach, which requires a new production-consumption process, necessitates sustainable waste management and planning in a way that allows for the recycling of resources. The success of waste management, one of the most critical components of the circular economy, and its sub-component recycling requires a collective effort. There is also a need to support such environmentally sensitive investments, which require high costs, with various incentive tools. It is accepted that investment incentives play a critical role, especially in encouraging investments. This study aims to reveal the current structure of the incentives provided for recycling in Turkey and evaluate their adequacy. The study is concluded that the last regulations made in the investment incentive system are developments that can make significant contributions to making recycling investments attractive and achieving recycling targets, and that incentive tools should be diversified. 20. A Decision-Making Model for the Transportation of Municipal Solid Wastes

The management of waste with minimum cost and the environmental burden has recently gained importance in the circular economy. In this study, alternatives for the transportation of wastes by rail and road were compared in terms of cost, environment and personnel requirement benchmarks by using the multi-criteria decision-making software - Right Choice (2.0). The transportation of waste by road is shown with Alternative 1, while the transportation by rail is represented by Alternative 2 (by loading waste-carrying trucks and trailers on the train), Alternative 3 (by loading only trailers on the train) and Alternative 4 (by loading only wastes on the train). As a result, it was determined that the optimum option to transfer the wastes is as specified in Alternative 4, to load only the wastes on the wagons. Importantly, the low operation-maintenance cost of Alternative 4, in other words, its high performance on this benchmark and the high relative importance of the operation-maintenance cost attributed by the stakeholders play a vital role. According to the sensitivity analysis results, Alternative 3 appears as another option close to Alternative 4 while Alternatives 1 and 2, however, remain as options to be evaluated where Alternatives 3 and 4 are not included in decision-making at all. The results of this study show that, depending on the scoring of the criteria in the decision tree, Alternative 4 or 3 could be a better option than the other alternatives, by reducing the number of alternatives and highlighting the good performers.

The study was carried out to determine effect of environment on fiber quality in cotton grown in the Efeler and Söke areas of Aydın province, Bergama, Menemen, Torbalı areas of İzmir province, Sarayköy area of Denizli province, Milas area of Muğla province, Akhisar area of Manisa province,in the Aegean Region of Turkey in 2020.In this study Gloria variety was used as research material.The experiment was arranged as randomized complete plots design. The effect of locations on nep count, nep size, ginning percentage, fiber strength, fiber fineness, fiber length, uniformity index of fiber length, maturity degree of fiber, fiber elongation, short fiber content, yellowness rate of fiber, fiber brightness, trash count in fiber, were found to be significant. The effect of locations on 100 seed weight were found to be insignificant. In the study, it was determined that 100 seed weight was not affected by environmental conditions, while other characteristics were affected by environmental conditions. It was determined that the cotton grown in Söke area was most highest in terms of ginning percentage, maturity degree of fiber, yellowness rate of fiber, trash count in fiber, nep count and nep size. Menemen area gave the highest value in terms of fiber length, uniformity index of fiber length, fiber fineness and fiber elongation. The treatments of uniformity index of fiber length, short fiber content and trash count of cotton fiber were highest obtained in Bergama and Efeler areas. Torbalı and Efeler areas gave as highest as maturity degree of fiber the cotton grown in Söke area. Milas area showed similarly the highest value in terms of fiber fineness as compared Menemen. The cotton in Bergama area belongs to the highest value in terms of fiber strength and fiber brightness.. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recycling is the most efficient waste management method in terms of environment and economy for wastes that cannot be prevented and reused are processed. When it is considered that a significant amount of municipal waste comes from households, it can be understood how important individual waste separation efforts in households are for the efficient operation of recycling systems and for reaching the targeted recycling rates. The social marketing approach accentuates that increasing the recycling behavior of individuals requires knowing and managing the barriers to the behavior as well as the motivating factors. In this context, many studies have been conducted on the barriers to recycling behavior since the 1980s, and many barriers have been identified. This research aims to summarize the extant knowledge on the barriers to behavior by presenting a systematic literature review of the studies on the barriers to individual recycling behavior in the literature. In this context, 72 empirical studies published between 1985-2022 in accordance with the pre-determined criteria were analyzed in-depth and reported within the framework of the PRISMA protocol. The findings showed that research was essentially divided into three groups: research that focuses on 1) discovering what the barriers were, 2) discovering which barriers were more important, and 3) analyzing the relationships of barriers to intentions and behaviors. It is observed that the barriers that are most emphasized and the effects of which on behavior are examined in the literature are mainly the barriers related to the perception of recycling as difficult and unfavorable. Some weaknesses of current studies have shed light on issues that need to be addressed in future research. In future research, it would be beneficial to study 1) development of a valid and reliable barrier scale that will allow continuous measurement of different types of barriers, 2) the inter-relationships between barriers in order to identify the main barriers that trigger new barriers, 3) links between other barriers apart from difficultyinconvenience barrier with both recycling behavior and its known antecedents. Sınırlı kaynak potansiyeline sahip olan gezegenimiz, gün geçtikçe karşılayabileceğinden çok daha fazlasının talep edilmesi nedeniyle gelecek nesillerin gereksinimlerine cevap veremeyeceği noktaya doğru hızla yaklaşmaktadır. Mevcut “Al-Yap-Tüket-At” şeklinde işleyen Doğrusal Ekonomi Modeli’nin artık günümüzde geçerliliğini yitirdiğine; bunun yerine, sürdürülebilir üretim, tüketim ve geri dönüşüm süreçleri temelinde yükselen Döngüsel Ekonomi Modeli’nin ise ivme kazandığına tanıklık etmekteyiz. Döngüsel Ekonomi; üretim ve tüketim süreçlerinde kıt kaynakların verimli kullanılması, ürünlerin tasarım süreçlerinden başlayarak ürün-yaşam dönemlerinin uzatılması, nihai biçimlerinde bile paylaşılarak faydasının arttırılması ve atıklardan kaynak yaratımı esasına dayalı bir atık yönetimiyle çevre üzerindeki negatif dışsallıkları mümkün olduğunca azaltmayı hedeflemektedir. Kapalı malzeme ve enerji döngüsü üzerine kurgulanmış Döngüsel Ekonomi, Birleşmiş Milletler’in Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Amaçları kapsamında 2030 yılına kadar ülkeler tarafından benimsenmesi gereken alternatif bir kalkınma stratejisi olarak yer almaktadır. Atığı bir kaynak olarak kabul eden Döngüsel Ekonomi konseptini benimseyen Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinde insani gelişmenin atık yönetimi üzerindeki etkisinin incelenmesi, bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, en önemli kalkınma göstergelerinden biri olan İnsani Gelişme Endeksi ile Atık Yönetimi arasındaki ilişkiyi Avrupa Birliği üye ülkeleri için gelir düzey sınıflamasına göre Dinamik Panel Genelleştirilmiş Momentler Metodu kullanılarak incelemektedir. Nihai olarak, elde edilen ampirik bulgular doğrultusunda ilgili politika önerileri sunulmaktadır.

The population in urban spaces in the world is increasing gradually and this increase brings some problems with it. New concepts have emerged for cities to find solutions to these problems, to increase the quality of life and to create sustainable cities. This concept, which emerged with problems such as the growth of cities and urban population, urban infrastructure problems, environmental problems, and climate change, is the concept of "smart city". The concept of smart city is especially important with the gaining importance of transportation, energy consumption, sustainability, and recycling concepts. Smart cities have many components such as transportation, economy, people, governance, environment, and life etc. One of the most important components is "smart waste management". With the recycling of wastes, which is one of the most important problems of cities, smart city applications have been established without harming people and the environment. In this article, the concept of smart city and its components, definition and comparison of current and smart waste management has been made. National and international smart waste management systems and practices, which include the protection of environmental quality, the collection and recycling of waste at its source, have been examined and the smart waste management has been evaluated in terms of landscape architecture. 30. AB Ülkelerinin Çevre ve Atık Yönetimi Performanslarının Değerlendirilmesi: Veri Zarflama Analizi ve Yapay Sinir Ağlarının Birlikte Uygulanması.

- Abstract
With the development of industry, the increase in human needs has led to an increase in production and consumption. The inadequacy of waste recycling in the production-consumption-waste cycle chain brings environmental, climatic, economic and many problems together. Within the framework of the 2015 Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Union has taken many decisions, including waste management. Improvement of recycling capacity and waste management for EU member and candidate countries is at the top of the targeted strategies. In this study, after the 2015 Circular Economy Action Plan, the waste management performances of EU countries for the years 2017, 2018 and 2019 were examined with the Artificial Neural Networks method based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). DEA input variables; municipal waste generation per capita, import of waste for recycling, national expenditures for environmental protection, real GDP per capita, human development index, plastic packaging waste production per capita, output variable; taken as the recycling rate of municipal waste. Efficiency scores obtained with DEA were used as output variables in artificial neural networks, and predictions were made for the efficiency scores of countries in 2019 with artificial neural networks feed-forward networks. In the findings, it has been concluded that Slovenia, Latvia, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg and Belgium are the countries that are active in all years and are frequently included in the reference clusters of other countries. It has been observed that the 2019 prediction values obtained from the data set trained with Feed Forward Artificial Neural Networks are very close to the real efficiency values. At the present time, national economies encounter many challenges by the reason of the increasing amount of construction and demolition waste. Recycling activities of construction and demolition wastes have been anticipated to play an important role in the circular economies. Parallel to this, the recycling of construction and demolition wastes directly affects the competitiveness of countries. This study objectives to evaluate the performances of the enterprises which carry out recycling activities of the construction and demolition wastes. The criteria which are used in the evaluation of the enterprises' performances are specified with an elaborative literature search. Enterprises which are executer of the recycling activities of construction and demolition wastes form the alternatives of the study. Step-Wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) is used to weight the determined criteria. In the wake of the weighting of the criteria, performances of the enterprises, which executer of the recycling activities of construction and demolition wastes were evaluated by way of Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS). Based on the consequences of the study, the most weighty criterion from the point of recycling of the construction and demolition wastes was specified to the sustainability. The study also indicates that the environmental effects and the transportation of construction and demolition wastes are specified as the other important criteria, respectively. As to EDAS method, consequences show that the Alternative 5 is the best firm in terms of recycling of the construction and demolition wastes performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biodegradable polymers are alternatives to petroleum-derived polymers. Polylactic acid (PLA) is the most widely used biodegradable polymer derived from renewable resources. According to the traditional waste management approach, 60% of all plastic ever produced ends up in landfills or natural environments. This has became an important environmental problem. End-of-life options for PLAs as an alternative to petroleum-based plastics are discussed in the context of circular economy. It is very important to understand the behaviour of these biodegradable polymers in soil after they become waste. In this study, the PLA samples were subjected to biodegradation in the soil at ambient temperature according to ASTM 5988 standard. Biodegradation in PLA after 90 days; physical appearances, mass loss, FTIR and SEM were evaluated. The weight loss rate of the samples after biodegradation was 0.9%. The physical appearances of PLA samples, FTIR and SEM results showed that the biodegradation rates of PLA in soil and ambient temperature are slow and it takes a longer time to fully degrade in this environment. In today's world, where consumption continues to increase with industrialization and globalization, methods of combating environmental problems have gained importance. The fact that the environmental pollution and destruction that occur during production in many sectors have become visible, and the necessity to protect nature, climate, animals and people has brought green consumption activities. Consumers, who demand products that respect nature, have ensured that the marketing activities of institutions are shaped on the axis of sustainability. It is aimed to produce solutions to environmental problems by producing environmentally friendly products by applying green marketing strategies by individuals and institutions. In all processes of green marketing efforts, the aim is to produce environmentally friendly products, and it is aimed to convey the message that the products are made with respect to nature, with green advertisements. Institutions respond to the demands of green friendly consumers with green products, green prices, green labels, green distribution, green advertisements and correct waste management strategies. Within the scope of the study, Mavi Jean and Levi's Jean brands were selected using purposeful sampling management. This work was carried out; in order to reveal the waste management activities of the designated institutions in the context of the strategies included in the Waste Management Hierarchy between the years 2017-2022, through green advertisements. Within the scope of the research, four green commercials made in the last 5 years on YouTube channels of Mavi and Levi's brands were examined using content analysis method within the scope of qualitative research methods. Among the 6 solution methods in the Waste Management Hierarchy in the commercials made within the scope of green marketing, institutions resort to reduction, prevention, reuse and recycling strategies; It has been determined that energy recycling and disposal methods are not carried out. Enerji kaynaklarının ve ham madde rezervlerinin hızla azaldığı dikkate alınırsa bu alanda yaşanacak olası kısıtlar toplumların ekonomik koşullarını ve sosyal yaşamlarını olumsuz yönde etkileyebilecektir. Bu çalışma ile enerji ve ham madde korunumu açısından yapısal atıkların yeniden kullanım/geri dönüşüm potansiyeli vurgulanarak farkındalık yaratılması amaçlanmıştır. Örneğin beton üretiminde agrega olarak atık betonların kullanılması ham madde korunumu açısından önemlidir. Kimyasallarla boyanmadan kullanılan çelik ürünler geri dönüşüm evresinde daha az işlem gerektireceğinden enerji tüketiminin azalması mümkündür. Bu bağlamda enerji ve ham madde kullanımını azaltma hedefine ulaşmak için yapısal atık yönetimi ile ilgili konuları yapı endüstrisinin bir parçası olarak ele almak önemlidir.

Recycling of end-of-life tires is a global problem that needs a solution. Storing and preserving these tires is a situation that delays facing potential problems instead of solving the problem. In this context, recycling of waste tires without harming the environment and at low costs has been the focus of many researchers. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the possibility of these tires to be granulated to the size of aggregate employed in concrete production and then to be used instead of natural aggregate in the manufacturing of the concrete has been the subject of research by scientists studying in this field. In the literature, the number of studies conducted on this subject has been increasing day by day. This study basically aims to compile the latest developments in this field and bring them to the literature. As it is known, the properties of concrete both in the fresh state and hardened state have a wide range. In order to present the study in accordance with its scope, the influence of tire aggregates obtained from waste tires on the fresh properties of concrete like workability and rheological behavior and the hardened properties such as the compressive and tensile strengths, elastic modulus, fracture parameters, and wear resistance were investigated. As a consequence of the findings achieved from the compiled information, it can be concluded that the incorporation of rubber aggregate in concrete production has generally adverse influences on the mentioned properties of concrete. In addition, the degree of affection of these properties is related to the shape, size, surface properties, and level of substitution of the rubber aggregate. Therefore, although the use of such concretes for structural purposes is not recommended, it is emphasized that it will be a good recycling alternative to use in non-structural like urban landscape structures, road shoulder side borders, keystones, surface coatings, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Building production, in which various actors and objects are involved at different stages, is an industrial production process having prominent role in waste generation. Construction process (CP) is an element of the "construction system" which constitutes a sub-system of "building production system” consisting of many interrelated systems and subsystems. The quantity and type of wastes generated in CP are affected by various factors such as project, construction technology, labor, etc., which creates an important constraint in terms of understandability and applicability of the construction process waste management. The study aims to set up a “Construction Waste Management System (CWMS)” presenting a conceptual framework to provide systematic applicability of waste management practices in CP. CWMS is an open system constructed in the input-process-output relationship based on system approach. Additionally, it includes many potential subsystems due to the multivariate nature of CP and the diversity of waste management processes.

The construction site includes the necessary materials, machinery, labor and temporary structures to produce the building to be built in accordance with the project and specifications. Since the construction works are aimed to be economical and fast, the construction site layout plans should be planned by foreseeing the works to be done before the construction process. In this respect, the size, function and production time of the work to be done; is important in determining the location of tools, materials and temporary structures. At the construction site, the activities are carried out sequentially as well as in the form of interlocking processes. In addition, excess or deformed materials should be removed from the work area. In this study, the importance of the regulations in the construction site layout and the waste and waste collection areas in the efficient realization of the works at a construction site are emphasized. For this purpose, 19 construction sites with different functions and sizes of building groups were determined in Kayseri. First of all, the conditions of the construction sites at the time of on-site inspection and observation were revealed. After the evaluation of the wrong and correct practices determined in the construction site layout, the proposed site layout plans were developed. With the suggestions developed, it was emphasized how the wrong applications detected in the different construction sites examined in the study could be improved, and it was aimed to set an example for the practitioners in the construction site layout design. The increasing globalization of the world, the destruction of natural resources due to climate changes, pollution, water problems, and global warming make the concept of sustainability even more vital today, and it is seen that worldwide studies have been initiated and progress has been made in order to eliminate the negative effects of traditional building construction on the environment. Exposure of the ecosystem to negative effects by the construction sector and the danger of rapid depletion of energy resources and raw materials cause serious problems for our world. Green building is one of the leading solutions to reduce environmental pollution and energy consumption. The goal of green buildings is to leave a clean and beautiful environment for the future. In this context, they are structures that give importance to issues such as efficient use of energy in buildings, waste management (recycling, re-functioning, etc.), water consumption and the use of materials that do not harm the environment. The use of green buildings has increased significantly in Turkey compared to previous years. Likewise, the majority of newly constructed buildings are green buildings. Green buildings aim to eliminate or reduce waste emissions that cause active use of energy, regular and efficient use of resources, and the environment and people living in healthy and comfortable buildings and environments. In short, green buildings aim to leave a clean environment for future generations. For this reason, the use of green buildings is very important in the world and in Turkey. In order for a building to be considered a green building, it must meet certain standards. This standard system is controlled by some certificates (LEED, BREAM, etc.). The purpose of this study is to measure the perceptions of the citizens residing in Ankara towards waste management and the zero waste projections. The population of the study consists of 4,899,528 people residing in Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Keçiören, Mamak, Sincan, Pursaklar and Yenimahalle districts. The sample of the study, on the other hand, consisted of 384 people according to = 0.05 significance and ± 0.05 margin of error. A total of 900 questionnaires were distributed, 648 of which were evaluated. Tests such as reliability and validity analysis, factor analysis, T-Test and ANOVA test were applied to the data obtained. As a result, it was determined that the participants did not be attentive in separating the solid wastes generated in the houses in accordance with the zero waste project, they did not have information about when the buildings or campuses they were located should be included in the zero waste project, and they partially participated in the practice of sorting the wastes at the source. The paper was discovered and spread to the world by the Chinese Civilization about 2000 years ago. Although electronic media is used instead of paper, the use of paper continues to be used for magazines, journals, essential documents, records, and books. Besides, the use of paper for various packages is quite high. The raw material of the paper consists mainly of wood. Hence, the use of waste paper as the raw material in the manufacture of paper is growing nowadays. As a consequence, the storage, transportation, and recycling of waste paper have become an issue of waste management. The amount of paper waste in universities, one of the public institutions, was investigated in this study. Waste papers collected from the Seyitler and City Campuses of Artvin Coruh University was tracked for one year. It was calculated from the study that a total of 2,179 kg of paper waste was obtained in one year. It was found that the monthly average per person was 0.045 kg and the annual average was 0.49 kg. It was observed that the papers were collected in a temporary storage area and given to scrap paper collectors at certain periods. This study is aimed to be a pioneering study of waste paper inventory studies to be carried out in public institutions aiming at zero waste. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Katı atıklar ve sera gazı emisyonları birbirlerinden farklı çevre problemi gibi algılanmalarına rağmen birbirlerine oldukça bağımlı bir yapıya sahiptirler. Kentlerde oluşan katı atıkların toplanmasından bertaraf edilmelerine kadar geçen süreçte, atmosfere önemli miktarda sera gazı emisyonu salınmaktadır. Bu oran özellikle bertaraf edilme sürecinde daha da artmaktadır. Vahşi-düzenli depolama, kompostlaştırma, yakma gibi konvansiyonel yöntemler de başlıca sera gazı kaynaklarıdır. Tüm bu işlemler sırasında oluşabilecek emisyon miktarlarının bilinmesi, gerekli önlemlerin alınabilmesi açısından oldukça önemlidir. Dünya genelinde yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda; sera gazı emisyon miktarlarının öngörülebilmesi için birçok matematiksel model geliştirilmiş ve kullanılmıştır. Bu modeller yardımıyla emisyon miktarları tahminleri yapılarak, azaltılma yoluna gidilmesi ya da tamamen yok edilebilmesi amacıyla gerekli çalışmalar yapılabilmektedir. Yapılan bu çalışmada atık yönetiminden kaynaklanan sera gazı emisyonları incelenmiş ve modelleme yöntemleri hakkında bilgiler verilmiş; ileride yapılabilecek olan atık yönetiminden kaynaklı emisyonların modellenmesi konusundaki çalışmalara kaynak olması amaçlanmıştır.
