Döviz ile işlem yapan kişi ve kurumları döviz kuru hareketleri farklı şekillerde etkilemektedir. Bu etkilerin kişi ve firmaları olumsuz etkilemesini en aza indirgemeye dönük farklı finansal araçlar türetilmiştir. Geliştirilen bu türev araçların verimli kullanılması adına döviz kuru volatilite tahmini yapılması önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, ABD doları (USD), Euro (EUR) döviz kurları Türk Lirası (TRY) karşılığı gösterge niteliğindeki satış kurları günlük verileri kullanılmıştır. Veri seti her bir döviz türü için hafta sonları ve resmi tatillerin dışında, 02 Ocak 2008 ve 01 Nisan 2019 arasını içermekte ve toplamda 2822 gözlemden oluşmaktadır. ARMA(0,0) – ARMA(5,5) GARCH (1,1), EGARCH(1,1), TGARCH(1,1) ve PGARCH(1,1) volatilite modelleri, std, sstd dağılımları altında denenmektedir. Bu şekilde 288 farklı tahmin yapılarak, Dolar için ARMA(5,5) model tahmininde TGARCH(1,1)’inde sstd, Euro için ise ARMA(5,4) model tahmininde TGARCH(1,1)-std modelleri volatilitenin tahmin edilmesinde daha başarılı bulunmuştur. Foreign exchange transactions affect the exchange rate movements in different ways. Different financial instruments have been developed to minimize the negative effects of these effects on people and firms. For the efficient use of these developed derivative instruments, it is important to estimate the exchange rate volatility. This study uses the exchange rates of the United States dollar (USD), euro (euro), equivalent to the daily exchange rates of the Turkish lira (TRY). The data set includes the period from January 2, 2008 to April 1, 2019 for each type of currency, except weekends and holidays. The ARMA (0,0) - ARMA (5.5) GARCH (1,1), EGARCH (1,1), TGARCH (1,1) and PGARCH (1,1) models are tested in the std and sstd distributions. Thus, with 288 different estimates, the ARMA model (5.5) estimates the dollar in TGARCH (1.1) sstd, the euro for ARMA (5.4), the model estimates the TGARCH (1.1) -std model in the assessment of volatility over successful.

Bu çalışmada alternatif volatilite modellerinin öngörü performansları karşılaştırılmıştır. İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası İMKB100 endeksi haftalık kapanış verileri kullanılarak getiri volatilitesi ARCH, GARCH ve SWARCH yöntemleriyle tahmin edilmiş ve bu tahminlere dayalı olarak öngörüler yapılmıştır. Öngörü performansları gerçekleşen volatilite baz alınarak çeşitli hata istatistikleriyle değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma sonuçları SWARCH modellerinin ARCH ve GARCH modellerine göre daha az ısrarcılığa sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Elde edilen sonuçlar dinamik ve kayan pencere yaklaşımlarına göre yapılan öngörüler açısından SWARCH modellerinin daha iyi sonuçlar verdiğini ortaya koymaktadır., In this study, the volatiliy forecasting performances of alternative volatility models are compared. Istanbul Stock Exchange, ISE100 Index, weekly closing figures are utilized to estimate return volatility using ARCH, GARCH and SWARCH models. The volatility forecasts based on the estimated models are compared with realized volatility and forecasting performances are evaluated employing assorted error statistics. The results show that the SWARCH model has lower persistence than ARCH and GARCH models. The empirical results also indicate that the SWARCH model appears to outperform the competing ARCH and GARCH models in forecasting volatility.
