WOS: 000461107900013, Objective: Corticosteroid (CS) therapy is widely used as the standard treatment for acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis (MS). Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head is one of the long-term complications related to CS therapy. Our study aims to investigate the association between annual and cumulative doses of CS treatment and radiographic assessment of AVN of the femoral head in MS. Material and Methods: One patient group and two control groups were formed. The study group consisted 60 MS cases treated with intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) and the 2 control groups consisted 22 MS patients (Control I) without CS treatment and 25 healthy controls (Control II). Sixty patients who underwent CS treatment were divided into 3 subgroups of 20 cases each, treated with either IVMP only, IVMP and interferon, and IVMP and glatiramer acetate (GA). Neurological examinations and demographic data of all cases were recorded. The presence of AVN of femoral head in patient and control groups was evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging and Ficat staging system. Results: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of femoral head was observed in 4 (6.7%) MS patients who were treated with CS. The mean annual CS dose was 8.07 g and mean cumulative dose was 31 gr. There was a significant but no statistical difference, in annual and cumulative IVMP doses between patients who have and don't have AVN of femoral head (p=0.085 and p=0.246, respectively). Conclusion: Our all data support the idea that annual dose of CS may increase AVN of femoral head development in MS patients. It is important to evaluate the CS-treated MS patients with MRI in this respect, due to the possible treatment of early-stage AVN of femoral head.

Objective: Pediatric testicular tumors are very rare and constitute only 1% of all pediatric solid tumors. There are some differences in management of pediatric testicular tumors. Herein we aimed to evaluate the patients who underwent surgery for pediatric testicular tumors in our clinic. Material and Methods: A retrospective review of all testicular tumors diagnosed between 2004 and 2014 was performed. We analyzed the clinical characteristics, demographic features, diagnostic procedures, treatment methods and outcome. Results: A total of 22 children with pediatric testicular tumors were identified. Ages varied from 3.5 months to 16.5 years. Twelve cases were germ-cell tumors (55%). Half of the patients presented with a painless scrotal mass. Most cases (82%) were on the left side. All this children underwent surgery. Radical inguinal orchiectomy was performed in 13 cases and a testis-sparing procedure was performed in 6 cases. Only testicular biopsy was performed in 3 cases because of a presumptive diagnosis of lymphoma. Conclusion: Surgery is the standard treatment of testis tumors and is often enough by itself. Testis-preserving surgery appears to be a feasible option for benign tumors.

A 5-year-old male dog was presented with the complaint of a chronic nonhealing wound on both hind legs. The wound occurred during a serious train accident that caused loss of both hind limbs below the hock joint. Since then, the wound did not respond to any standard treatment for up to 4 months. Again it was dressed for 15 days, but it did not show any improvement. With the consent of the owner, cell-based therapy was conducted by collecting bone marrow from the proximal anteromedial aspect of the tibia. After the application of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) the time to complete healing was 24 days. Due to pressure at the bony cut stump, the dog was noted to have pain while walking, and walked on his forelegs. An artificial limb was subsequently applied. The dog managed to walk normally after several days of training.

Giant cell tumor of bone accounts for about 5% of all primary bone tumors in adults and is still one of the most obscure and intensively examined tumors of bone. This largely results from the lack of uniform clinical, radiographic, histological or morphological aspects that allow prediction of recurrence. Classified by the World Health Organization as “an aggressive, potentially malignant lesion”, the giant cell tumor of bone could give lung metastases, could undergo malignant degeneration or could have multicentric localization. It usually develops in long bones but can also occur in unusual locations. The common presenting symptom is increasing pain at the tumor site. Standard treatment ranges from curettage to wide resection, with reports of varying oncological and functional results. The recurrence rate is high during the first 2-3 years after surgery regardless of pre-operative tumor stage. Herein, we discuss the morphological, clinical, radiological, and therapeutic characteristics of this pathologic entity as well as its differential diagnosis. Dünya Sağlık Örgütü tarafından agresif potansiyeli olan malign bir lezyon olarak sınıflandırılan kemiğin dev hücreli tümörü akciğere metastaz yapar ve malign dejenerasyon veya çok merkezli lokalizasyon gösterir. Tümör genellikle uzun kemiklerde oluşur, ancak alışılmadık lokalizasyonlarda da olabilir. Yaygın semptomu tümör bölgesindeki artan ağrıdır. Standart tedavi küretajdan geniş rezeksiyona kadar değişir ve değişik onkolojik ve fonksiyonel sonuçlar doğurur. Tümör evresine bakılmaksızın, cerrahiyi takip eden ilk 2-3 yılda tekrarlama riski yüksektir. Bu yazıda bu patolojik teşekkülün morfolojik, klinik, radyolojik ve tedavi özellikleri ile ayırıcı tanısı tartışılmıştır.
