The media plays an active role in spreading Islamophobia, with an increase in Islamophobic content and discourses in new media in recent years leading academic studies to focus on this issue. New media tools offer free and unlimited sharing opportunities to their users, becoming platforms where hate speech against religious groups is developed and spread. One such platform where freedom of speech is violated is X, formerly known as Twitter. It is crucial to determine the approach of content on social media platforms towards Islam, Muslims, and their sacred values. This study discusses posts made through burning/tearing actions on the X platform, covering the first 9 months of 2023. The findings, based on posts from 23 X accounts analyzed using qualitative-oriented content analysis, reveal that concepts related to Islam and Muslims with negative connotations were frequently used. The posts framed a narrative portraying Islam and Muslims as pro-violence, intolerant, and hostile. Acts of burning and tearing the Holy Quran were largely justified as freedom of speech, with a narrative of exclusion, accusation, distortion, and disdain towards Muslims who disagreed.

Medyanın dijital ortamlardaki akışkanlığı ve yayılımı mevcut bilginin çeşitlenmesine katkı sunmakla birlikte bilgi kirliliği yaratma olasılığı bulunmaktadır. Bu olasılık dini bilgi açısından da geçerlidir. Geleneksel medya ve yeni dijital platformlar dini bilginin yapılanmasında, yayılmasında ve ideolojik söylemlerin gelişmesine taraf olma seviyesinde destek veya karşıt söylemlerin gelişmesinin önünü açabilmektedir. Bu noktada medyada yer alan dini bilgilerin örgün din öğretimindeki dini bilgi anlayışlarını nasıl etkilediği sorusu ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada din dersi öğretmenlerinin görüşlerinden yola çıkılarak kitle iletişim araçlarının dini bilgi kaynağı olma durumu, din öğretimi süreçlerine yansıması yönüyle ele alınmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi benimsenmiştir ve araştırma bir durum çalışmasıdır. Araştırma, öğretmenlerin tecrübelerine dayalı olarak tasarlandığı ve senkronik verilere ihtiyaç duyulduğu için fenomenolojik yaklaşım ile ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırmada nitel araştırmalarda sıklıkla kullanılan mülakat tekniği ile veriler toplanmıştır. Buna göre, bireylerin dini bilgilerini öğrenme ve inşa süreçlerinde formal din öğretiminin yanı sıra anlamı, alıcıların kişisel deneyimleri, değerleri, kültürel bağlamları, sosyal etkileşimleri ve kitle iletişim araçları da şekillendirmektedir. Bu çalışmada din dersi öğretmenlerinin görüşlerinden yola çıkılarak kitle iletişim araçlarından edinilen dini bilginin din öğretimi süreçlerine nasıl yansıdığı ele alınmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi benimsenmiştir. Araştırma, öğretmenlerin tecrübelerine dayalı olarak tasarlandığı ve senkronik verilere ihtiyaç duyulduğu için fenomenolojik desen benimsenerek ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırmada nitel araştırmalarda sıklıkla kullanılan mülakat tekniği ile veriler toplanmıştır. Bu amaçla yarı yapılandırılmış sorulardan oluşan mülakat hazırlanmış ve araştırmanın temel sorusu olan “Günümüz din eğitimini dini bilgi açısından nasıl değerlendiriyorsunuz?” sorusuna alınan cevaplardan yola çıkılarak çalışma dizayn edilmiştir. Buna göre, bireylerin dini bilgilerini öğrenme ve inşa süreçlerinde formal din öğretiminin yanı sıra anlam, alıcıların kişisel deneyimleri, değerleri, kültürel bağlamları, sosyal etkileşimleri ve kitle iletişim araçları da şekillendirmektedir.

Dijital teknolojilerin gelişmesiyle birlikte gerçek uzamdan farklı bir alan olarak dijital uzamın ortaya çıkması gündelik hayat pratiklerinin sunuluş biçimini etkilemiştir. Bu açıdan gündelik hayat içerisinde önemli bir role sahip olan kadim ritüeller de dijital uzam üzerinden aktarılmaya başlanmıştır. Ritüelin dijitalleşmesi üzerine yoğunlaşan bu çalışmanın temel problemi, kadim ritüellerin dijitalleşme ile birlikte seyirlik meta haline gelmesi sonucunda auradaki dönüşümün anlaşılmasıdır. Zoom Cinemas isimli YouTube kanalında canlı yayınlanan ölüm ve evlilik geçiş ritüelleri ile dini tören ve ibadet ritüelleri videolarından rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen her kategori için 5 video metin analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Örneklemde bir metin olarak ele alınan videoların açıklanabilmesi için de betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ölüm ritüellerinin aura yitimi açısından en çok erozyona uğrayan ritüel biçimi olduğu, buna karşılık evlilik ritüellerinin doğası gereği gösteriye daha uygun olduğu anlaşılmıştır. İbadet ve dini törenlerin dijitalleşmesi sürecinde ise dinsel deneyimin canlı yayın aracılığıyla aktarılamaması ‘oradalık’ üzerine kurulu maneviyatı dijital üzerinden sekteye uğratmaktadır.

Batı dünyasında İslamofobi tarihsel teo-politik İslam karşıtlığı, yabancı düşmanlığı, ırkçılık ve radikalizm korkusu üzerinden geliştirilirken Türkiye’de ise basit bir kavram dönüşümüyle irtica ve şeriat korkusu aynı işlevi görmektedir. Bir nesilde kavramsal değişim olarak değerlendirilebilecek bu durum daha sonraki nesillerde zihinsel değişim ve dönüşüme yol açabilmektedir. Türkiye’de fundafobi ve bunun neticesinde yükselen bir İslamofobi’nin ve buna reaksiyon olarak oluşan laikofobinin varlığı bir realitedir. Medya da tüm organları ile bu karşılıklı çatışmayı beslemektedir. Ancak her iki tarafın da eylem ve söylemlerindeki aşırılıklar medyaya malze me oluşturmaktadır. Seküler laik Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nde de yıllardır yükselen fundafobi ve gittikçe derinleşen bir İslamofobi’den söz edilmesine rağmen Batı kaynaklı fundafobi ve İslamofobi üzerine çok sayıda çalışmalar yapılırken Türkiye’de gelişen fundafobi ve İslamofobi üzerine fazla çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Kapsamlı literatür taraması üzerine yapılan bu çalışmada İslam dünyasının kendi içindeki fundafobiyi yeterince tartışmadığı için İslamofobi’ye nasıl dönüştüğüne dikkat çekilerek Türkiye’de İslamofobi’nin oluşum süreci ve medyanın rolü ele alınmaktadır. Müslüman toplumlarda da fundafobi gibi farklı kavramlar üzerinden İslamofobi’nin reaksiyoner olarak yükseldiği ve bunun toplumsal ayrışmaya zemin hazırladığı görülmektedir.

Within this framework, divergent perspectives emerge, ranging from utopian views depicting technology as a vehicle for salvation to dystopian views highlighting its disruptive potential. This duality is particularly evident in discussions regarding social media's influence on political communication. The hybridization of media systems, as proposed by Andrew Chadwick, further blurs the lines between traditional and new media, exemplified by Barack Obama's groundbreaking 2008 presidential campaign, which utilized social media alongside traditional platforms. Social media's and religion perception impact on political communication evokes both optimism and skepticism. While proponents laud its role in fostering citizen engagement and enhancing political participation, critics like Malcolm Gladwell argue that it amplifies expression without tangible impact. Moreover, the influence of social media on political campaigns underscores the evolving landscape of communication strategies, with leaders leveraging platforms like Facebook and Twitter to shape public perception. In navigating this terrain, understanding the complexities of image construction becomes paramount for political actors. The interplay between rhetoric, communication strategies, and public perception shapes the success of political campaigns. However, maintaining control over one's image amidst the fluid dynamics of political discourse remains a formidable challenge. In conclusion, the discourse surrounding technological determinism and social media's impact on political communication underscores the need for nuanced analysis. While social media offers unprecedented opportunities for engagement, its dual nature necessitates vigilance against manipulation and polarization. Ultimately, the compatibility between desired images and genuine personas remains central to effective political communication in the digital age.

This paper explores the relationship between media, government, and terrorism. It investigates what terrorists want from the media, what governments seek from the media when covering terrorism, and what the media aims to achieve in its coverage of terrorism. The paper discusses coverage versus boycott, extortion and exploitation, ethical considerations, the war on terrorism and public diplomacy, current trends in terrorist operations, and attacks on journalists and media institutions, the Media in the West, and the Middle East dealings with terrorism. The purpose of the study is to investigate the complex relationship of three parties (terrorists, media, and government) with different objectives and agendas. The problem of media and terrorism lies in the conflicting interests and goals of these three different entities. The author used several case studies related to the problem of this study to highlight the conflictual approach to terrorism and how each entity looks at it, making the equation of terrorism, government, and media complex, challenging, and extremely sensitive that must be managed with caution. Both media and political institutions must consider several factors such as national security, public interest, economic, political, and ethical considerations. The relationship between terrorism, media and governments are characterized by a set of challenges, such as the public right to know and the potential for extortion and exploitation by terrorist groups, and the attempts from the governments to set the agendas. How can the media serve the truth without falling into the trap of extortion, exploitation, without succumbing to the pursuit of journalistic scoops, and sensationalism and without falling into the pressure of control and pressures from the governments?

A narrow definition of Islamophobia flags religion as playing the central part in anti-Muslim prejudice. But a broader term bundles ethnic, national and cultural prejudices together with religious ones; the latter are gradually becoming disconnected from the cultures in which they were embedded. In measuring degrees and levels of Islamophobia, this article turns to the mass media to understand how they have amplified and at times echoed calls for anti-Muslim prejudice. Islam has become culturalized and racialized by both adherents and antagonists alike, lending a massive landscape for social media in particular to exploit. Qualitative data seem best equipped to assay popular attitudes and behavior towards Muslims. And their relevance is especially significant in shaping female Muslim experiences. To be sure, Islam is placed to take a key part in the making of a post-hegemonic international order. Highlighting tolerance towards others is critical rather than using other attributes to shore up the political legitimacy of a state. To categorize Islamophobes as racists makes for bad politics, but it can enhance legitimacy.

21. yüzyılın bilim dünyasında “medya çalışmaları”, dijitalleşme ve ağ tabanlı teknolojilerin günlük hayattaki etkinliği sebebiyle toplum ve kültürle ilgilenenler için yadsınamayacak bir hâl almıştır. Bu alandaki sosyal çalışmaların ve araştırmacıların sayısı da gün geçtikçe artmaktadır. İşte tanıtımını yapacağımız Mehmet Haberli’nin Medyatikleşme ve Din adlı kitabı (2023) da bu kritik konuyu ele almakta, yaşanan değişimleri medyatikleşme bağlamında meta-analiz yöntemi ile açımlamaktadır. Doç. Dr. Haberli, gelişen medya kültürü konusunda sosyolojik ve iletişimsel tahayyüle sahip ve Türk akademisinde medyanın din bağlamında incelenmesine öncülük etmiş bir araştırmacıdır. Özellikle Sanal Din isimli kitap çalışması (2014), medyanın din sosyolojisi literatüründe yeni bir kulvar açtığı yıllarda özgün bir çalışma niteliğindedir. Yazarın ayrıca sanal cemaatler, dijital çağda dindarlığın dönüşümü ve dijital din araştırmaları konularındaki çalışmaları dikkat çekmektedir. Bu çalışmaları ile “teorik anlamda” yeni medyanın dinle ilişkisine Türkiye’de ilk değinen sosyolog olduğu söylenebilir. İnceleyeceğimiz kitabı da yazarın bugüne kadarki bilgi birikiminin bir hülasası olarak değerlendirmek yerinde olacaktır.

This article examines the function of news media on Alevi television channels. The increased visibility of faith-based identity movements in the public sphere during the 1990s led to the study of these communities in media research. This study contributes to these discussions by focusing on news media, an area not yet extensively examined concerning faith communities. The research is based on an 18-month field study involving participant observation and in-depth interviews, focusing on the news production processes of Cem TV, Yol TV, and TV 10, during 2014 and 2015. The study argues that news media serves a dual function for faith communities like the Alevis, enabling them to address both a general audience and their own community simultaneously. Alevi broadcasters create news bulletins that appeal to a general audience while also including news relevant to Alevis. They achieve this in two ways. The first is by utilizing television technology to include an “Alevi news” segment at the beginning of the news, covering developments particularly relevant to Alevis. The second way is by maintaining a more “neutral” language in the news bulletins while expressing opinions on developments concerning Alevis in news and discussion programs.

The subject of this study revolves around the examination of the reception processes of Azerbaijani viewers regarding their practices of watching television channels broadcasting in Türkiye within the framework of cultural studies, particularly within the context of religious perceptions. In this regard, employing the viewer-centered reception method within the tradition of Cultural Studies, the reception modes developed by participants living in various cities of Azerbaijan who watch religious content from Turkish television programs were scrutinized. To ascertain the identification of dominant, negotiated, and oppositional reading forms utilized in audience reception research, and to obtain data regarding meaning-making and reception practices concerning the contents watched by Azerbaijani viewers, a total of 4 different focus group discussions were conducted, consisting of 36 participants. These discussions took place with participants residing in the cities of Baku, Sumqayit, Ganja, and Nakhchivan in Azerbaijan who follow Turkish television channels. As a result, the study revealed that content containing religious knowledge or broadcasting religious programs through television is received by viewers through various readings. It was understood that viewers engage in diversified negotiated and oppositional readings within the content contexts, generally as participants, regarding religious content presented in various formats.

Değer, herhangi bir varlığın kıymetini belirtmek için kullanılan bir kıstas olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Değer kavramının insan, toplum ve ülke bağlamında özelden genele doğru tanımları yapılabilir. Değerler bireyin hayatını yönlendiren, davranışlarını etkileyen ve toplum içindeki normlara uyumu sağlayan önemli unsurlardır. Değerler genellikle kişinin inançları, ahlaki normları ve yaşam amacını yansıtan temel prensiplerdir. Bireyin kararlarını, ilişkilerini, iş hayatını ve genel yaşam tarzını şekillendirerek bunlara yön vermektedir. Değerlerin toplumsal aktarımının yanında eğitim süreçlerinde de verilmesi gerekliliğinden yola çıkılarak öğretim programlarında değerler eğitimine yer verilmeye başlanmıştır. Değerlerin öğretilmesinde duyuşsal eğitim diğer alanlardan daha önemlidir. Bunun için de her öğrencide olan ve ders takibinde kullanılan Türkçe ders kitaplarındaki metinler önemli bir konumda yer almaktadır. Bu araştırmada 2022 eğitim yılı itibariyle Millî Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı devlet okullarında okutulmakta olan 2. Sınıf Türkçe Ders Kitabı incelenmiştir. Bu araştırma ile kitap içeriğinde yer alan 8 tema kapsamında metinlerde kök değerlere ne oranda yer verildiğini belirlemek amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemleri içerisinde yer alan doküman incelemesi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Betimsel analiz tekniği ile veriler çözümlenip, amaçsal örneklemenin bir türü olan ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ile çalışma grubu belirlenmiştir. Veriler, bulunan kök değerlerin frekansı kapsamında Excel programı kullanılarak frekans ve yüzde oranlarıyla çözümlenmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin sonuçları, frekans ve yüzde tabloları aracılığıyla betimlenmiş ve veriler grafiklerle görselleştirilmiştir. Yapılan analizler neticesinde kitap içeriğinde en fazla yer alan kök değerlerin sırasıyla sorumluluk (f=40), sevgi (f=17), öz-denetim (f=12) ve yardımseverlik (f=12) olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular kök değerlerin incelenen ders kitabı içinde dengeli bir dağılıma sahip olmadığını, ayrıca kök değerlere yeteri kadar yer verilmediğini göstermektedir.

Medyanın gelişmesi ve değişmesiyle değerlere yüklenen anlamlar da değişmiş toplumun olaylara ve davranışlara yaklaşımı yeni boyutlar kazanmıştır. Kadınların sesi olma ve çeşitli sorunları çözme iddiasıyla ortaya çıktığı ifade edilen programlarla toplumda yaşanan değer erozyonları da daha görünür olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, bu programlardan biri olan “Esra Erol’da” programında yer alan, özellikle aile içinde yaşanan olaylar analiz edilerek Türkiye’deki değer erozyonları ve bu erozyonlara neden olan durumlar ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden örnek olay (durum-vaka) incelemesi deseni kullanılmıştır. 2018-2022 yılları arasında her yılın başında, ortasında ve sonunda yayınlanan üçer olay seçilmiş ve toplamda on beş vaka incelenmiştir. Görüntüye dayalı doküman analizi yapılarak, veriler söylem analizi yoluyla içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırmanın sonucunda ahlaki/dini (sadakatsiz olma, iffetsiz olma, kötü niyetli olma, vs.), insani (bencil olma, güvenilir olmama, sorumsuz olma, vs.) ve toplumsal (toplumsal olaylara duyarsızlık, aileye önem vermeme, etik kurallara bağlı olmama, vs.) olmak üzere üç tema bağlamında değerlere yönelik erozyonlar tespit edilmiştir. Bu erozyonların nedenleri; sosyal medyanın amacına uygun kullanılmaması, çarpık aile ilişkilerinin varlığı, aile sevgisinden yoksunluk, gizlilik ve mahremiyetin ihlali, güven ve aidiyet eksikliği ve olumsuz ekonomik durum olarak görülmüştür.

Bu çalışmada, farklı kültürlerden ebeveynlerin “aile” ve “çocuk” metaforlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma grubu Türkiye’den (n=40) ve Endonezya’dan (n=45) gönüllü ebeveynlerden oluşmuştur. Nitel araştırma desenindeki çalışmada katılımcılardan “Aile…gibidir. Çünkü…” ve “Çocuk…gibidir. Çünkü…” cümlelerini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde kodlama, kategori oluşturma aşamaları izlenerek metafor kategorileri ve sayıları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak “aile” metaforlarının Türk ebeveynlerde “birlik/beraberlik/bütünlük, korunma/güven, yaşam kaynağı, psikolojik iyi olma, gelişim” ve Endonezyalı ebeveynlerde “korunma/güven, psikolojik iyi olma, birlik/beraberlik/bütünlük, en değerli şey, öğrenme ortamı, emek/çaba” şeklinde sıralandığı belirlenmiştir. “Çocuk” metaforlarının Türk ebeveynlerde “psikolojik iyi oluş, bakım ve koruma, eğitim, masumiyet/saflık, yatırım, anne-babanın parçası/yansıması, sorumluluk” ve Endonezyalı ebeveynlerde “değerli varlık, eğitim, anne-babanın parçası/yansıması, bakım ve koruma, sorumluluk, yatırım, psikolojik iyi olma, öğretici” şeklinde sıralandığı belirlenmiştir. Her iki kültürde ortak olan “aile” metaforunun “ev/yuva, ağaç, bahçe” ve “çocuk” metaforunun “boş kâğıt” olduğu görülmüştür. Aile metaforları Türk kültüründe ağırlıklı olarak "ağaç", Endonezya kültüründe ise "ev/yuva" şeklinde ve çocuğa ilişkin metaforların Türk kültüründe çoğunlukla “mutluluk/sevinç” gibi duygusal, Endonezya kültüründe ise “mücevher, altın, inci, elmas” gibi değerli nesneler olduğu görülmüştür. Çocuk ve aileye ilişkin metaforların kültüre özgü değer, inanç ve aile yapısından etkilendiği ortaya konmuştur.

In this research, it is aimed to investigate the classroom and out-of-class practices that classroom teachers do while transferring cultural values to students. The research was carried out by interview method based on a qualitative approach with an interpretative tradition. The participants of the study consisted of people working as teachers in different cities in Turkey. The data were collected through an interview form developed by the researcher, including open-ended questions, and interviews. Participants participated in the research by choosing the most appropriate interview form or interview. Thematic analysis was applied on teachers' opinions. Accordingly, a total of 29 codes belonging to 4 themes were created under 1 main theme. A main theme named School and Cultural Values was created. Under this main theme, themes such as Cultural Values, School and Socialization, Education Program and Teacher Practice were created based on teacher opinions. This research, besides revealing the current situation regarding the socialization processes in Turkey's education system, puts its analytical emphasis on teacher practices inherent in secondary socialization processes. Within the framework of this overview, the starting point of this research is how aware teachers are of socialization processes at school and how they reflect this awareness to their practices.

Okul öncesi eğitime devam eden çocukların annelerinin bireysel değerleri ile demografik faktörlerin ilişkisini inceleyen ulusal ve uluslararası alandaki araştırmaların sınırlı olduğu görülmektedir. Bu sınırlılık göz önüne alınarak yürütülen bu araştırmada, okul öncesi eğitime devam eden çocukların annelerinin bireysel değerlerinin (disiplin, sorumluluk, güven, bağışlama, dürüstlük, paylaşma, saygı ve doğruluk) çeşitli faktörlere (yaş, eğitim düzeyi, çalışma durumu, algılanan sosyoekonomik düzey, medeni durum ve çocuğun cinsiyeti) göre değişiklik gösterip göstermediğini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden tarama modeli kullanılarak yürütülen araştırmanın örneklemine İstanbul’un farklı ilçelerinde okul öncesi eğitimi alan 384 çocuğun annesi dahil edilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ile “Bireysel Değerler Envanteri” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin yorumlanmasında betimsel istatistik ile One-Way ANOVA, Bağımsız örneklemler için t testi, Mann-Whitney U (grup sayısı 30 altında olan değişkenin analizinde), Hochberg's GT2 testlerinden yararlanılmış; testlerdeki etkinin büyüklüğünü belirlemek amacıyla Eta-kare ve Cohen’s d formülleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularında; annelerin en yüksek ortalamayla “paylaşım ve saygı”, en düşük ortalamayla “güven ve bağışlama” değerlerine sahip oldukları görülmüş; yaşlarının “disiplin ve sorumluluk”, eğitim düzeylerinin “disiplin ve sorumluluk” ile “paylaşım ve saygı”, çalışma durumlarının “disiplin ve sorumluluk”; medeni durumlarının “saygı ve doğruluk”, algıladıkları sosyoekonomik düzeylerinin ise “paylaşım ve saygı” değerlerinde anlamlı değişikliklere yol açtığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca annelerin bireysel değerlerinin çocuklarının cinsiyetine göre farklılaşmadığı görülmüştür. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara yönelik çeşitli öneriler sunulmuştur.

Ensuring nationwide adherence to fundamental values disseminated through educational platforms like TRT EBA TV, administered by the Ministry of National Education, holds paramount importance. The study utilized document analysis method. A total of 27 teaching videos on TRT EBA TV for 5th to 8th graders were analyzed. The findings revealed that although the teaching videos addressed some of the ten root values, they did not fully encompass all of them. Nonetheless, the study highlighted that despite the abstract nature of science lessons, the root values are predominantly emphasized. This indicates the feasibil-ity of integrating values education into science disciplines. Furthermore, the study offers recommenda-tions for effectively enhancing students' acquisition of these ten root values.

Öz:Bu çalışmanın amacı, Anlamlandırma İhtiyacı Ölçeği-Kısa Formu’nun (The need for sense-making scale-short form) geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmalarını yaparak Türkçe’ye uyarlamaktır. Bireylerin anlamlandırma ihtiyacını ölçmeyi amaçlayan özgün ölçek toplam 7 maddeden ve tek boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 18-65 yaş aralığında 148 kadın, 92 erkek olmak üzere toplam 240 yetişkin oluşturmaktadır. Ölçek uyarlama sürecinin ilk aşamasında, ölçek için gerekli izinlerin alınmasının ardından ölçme aracının Türkçe’ye çeviri aşamasında çeviri-tekrar çeviri metodundan yararlanılmıştır. Ölçeğin faktör yapısı doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile incelenmiştir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda uyarlanan ölçeğin uyum indeksleri açısından kabul edilebilir uyum gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yapılan iç tutarlılık analizlerinde Cronbach Alpha katsayısı .79 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ardından madde-toplam korelasyonları ile alt-üst %27’lik grup madde ayırt edicilik indeksi incelendiğinde ölçekteki maddelerin ayırt edicilik düzeyinin yüksek olduğu görülmektedir. Ölçüt geçerliğini hesaplamak amacıyla Anlamlandırma İhtiyacı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Anlamlandırma İhtiyacı Ölçeği-Kısa Formu ve Anlamlandırma İhtiyacı Ölçeği arasındaki olumlu yönde manidar ilişki, ölçeğin ölçüt bağıntılı geçerliğinin yeterli düzeyde olduğunu göstermiştir (r= .69; p

Bu makalenin amacı, (i) dini bir bağlılığı ve hayat tarzı olduğunu belirten kişilerin bilgelik algılarını metaforlar aracılığıyla ortaya çıkarmak, (ii) bu algıların kategorizasyonuna etki eden faktörleri incelemek ve (iii) kendi yaşamlarında etki bırakan kişi seçimleri ile bilge kişi idealleri arasındaki ilişkiyi anlamaktır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgubilimi temel alan araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; amaçlı örnekleme içerisinde kartopu ve ölçüt örnekleme ile 19-40 yaş aralığındaki %20’si erkek (19 kişi), %80’i kadın (76 kişi) olmak üzere lisans (%58,9; 56 kişi) ve lisansüstü (%41,1; 39 kişi) eğitim düzeyine sahip, dine ilgisinin orta (%57,9; 55 kişi) ve yüksek düzeyde (%42,1; 40 kişi) olduğunu belirten 95 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Bilgelik algısını ölçmek için katılımcılara online Bilge Kavramına Dair Metafor Algısı Formu uygulanarak, “Bana göre bilge …. gibidir/benzer. Çünkü ….” şeklindeki ifadeyle; kendi hayatlarındaki bilge kişi yansımasını görmek için “Hayatımda kararlarını isabetli bulduğum, bana yol gösteren, örnek aldığım kişi ….. dır/dir. Çünkü ….” şeklinde açık uçlu ifadeler doldurtulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Katılımcıların bilge kişi için oluşturduğu 64 farklı metafor, yoğunluklu olarak bilgiye kaynaklık eden kişi, olgun/kâmil kişi, aydınlatan-yol gösteren kişi kategorilerinin öne çıktığı 7 kategoride analiz edilmiştir. Kişilerin hayatlarında etki bırakan, örnek aldıkları kişiye dair içerikler ise aile bireyi, dini şahsiyet ve arkadaş kategorilerinin öne çıktığı 8 kategori altında yapılandırılmıştır.

This study examines the relationships among epidemic anxiety, religious coping (positive and negative), spiritual well-being, and tranquility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the study investigates potential differences in these variables based on gender and age. The sample consisted of 405 participants. The data is collected using the Epidemic Anxiety Scale, the Religious Coping Scale, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and the Tranquility Scale. The findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between epidemic anxiety and both positive and negative religious coping, but no significant relationship with overall spiritual well-being or tranquility. Examining the subscales, positive and negative religious coping are positively and significantly associated with spiritual well-being. The study finds a weak negative relationship with tranquility and negative religious coping. Crucially, a significant positive relationship between spiritual well-being and tranquility is discovered. These results were discussed within the existing literature, highlighting the complex interplay between epidemic-related anxiety, religious coping mechanisms, spiritual well-being, and the experience of tranquility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the implications for supporting individuals' well-being during public health crises are considered.

Dispensationalism is a significant theological movement in the United States, especially within Evangelical Christianity. Dispensations refer to the periods that adherents of this belief separate in explaining world history. These periods are generally designated as seven eras in which the relationship between God and humanity was established in varying ways. The idea of dispensationalism was developed by John Nelson Darby. His literal and futuristic interpretation led him to distinguish the roles of Israel and the Church in the Bible prophecies. After Darby, C. I. Scofield played a crucial role in popularizing Darby’s ideas in the United States with the publication of his Scofield Reference Bible. This article examines the historical process of dispensationalism and focuses on its founder, John Nelson Darby, and his views on dispensationalism from a historical perspective. The article concludes that Darby’s dispensationalism is widely accepted by Evangelicals, that the rapture and the separation of the Church and Israel in the God’s divine plan have provided the theological basis for Evangelical Christians’ support for Israel and have had various effects on American popular culture.

Fundamentalists are a group that arose among American evangelicals in the early 20th century as a reaction to extreme liberalization and especially intense criticism of the Bible. They are called fundamentalists because of the Fundamentals, written at the beginning of the 20th century. A characteristic of fundamentalists who read the Bible literally is their millenarianism. Although they began as an anti-modernist movement, fundamentalists’ extensive use of the media, one of the most important indicators of modernity, gave rise to the previously unknown concept of televangelists. This group has been adept at using radio, then television, and more recently, the Internet. New Testament readings with detailed descriptions, prayer times, and effective sermons are given, especially in programs with an audience. Pat Robertson, a prominent figure among these people, reached large audiences quickly with his satellite network and his continuous broadcasts and became an important name in the field of religious broadcasting in America.

This paper questions the authenticity of one of the two main sources cited in scholarly research on the history of the Paulicians in early mediaeval Byzantine Asia Minor, The Key of Truth. It first addresses the issues raised in this source, then analyses the arguments of scholars for and against the authenticity of this text, subjecting the claims of both to a contextual archaeological reading. Finally, it shows how these scholars argued for the authenticity of this work in light of the political, theological, and philosophical events of their time and highlights an aspect that scholars interested in this topic have often ignored. The debates surrounding this text, which purports to be a source of church history, cannot be explained solely in terms of internal identity and doctrinal disagreements. It is argued here that the authors who consider The Key of Truth to be authentic were directly and naturally associated with nineteenth-century Armenian political ideals and, because of these ties, presented this work to ensure the existence and subsequent legitimacy of the Armenian Protestant Church, whose workers were Anglo-American Protestant missionaries and whose patron was the British Empire.

Prior to the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany (Anschluss) in 1938, the Nazi-supporting magazine Kikeriki in Austria targeted the Jews in the country with its antisemitic publications. Revealing Kikeriki’s antisemitic caricatures is crucial for identifying antisemitic propaganda in Austria before the Anschluss. In order to shed light on the antisemitic propaganda in Austria before the Anschluss, the study sought to determine how Jews were presented in Kikereki’s antisemitic visuals and what antisemitic propaganda messages were given against the Jews. For this purpose, Kikereki’s antisemitic caricatures were examined in the context of antisemitic propaganda through Karl Bühler’s Organon Model. The cartoons disseminated propaganda messages that conveyed the exclusion of Jews from Austria, the notion of Jewish dominance over humanity, and the existence of a power struggle between Christians and Jews in the country’s administration. The study concluded that Kikereki aimed to validate the NSDAP’s campaign against the Jews in the Austrian public opinion through its antisemitic propaganda.

The war in Gaza, which started with the attacks of Hamas on October 7, 2023, and continued with the disproportionate use of force by Israel, has reached frightening levels. Although protests took place in many Western cities, mainly with the participation of immigrants, it can be said that the Western public generally remained indifferent to the brutality caused by Israel in Gaza. This article aims to examine and try to understand the attitudes of the Quakers, as a religious group with an exceptional stance, towards the Israel-Palestine War in particular and ‘war-violence’ in general. In accordance with this purpose, the article will first give a general introduction about the Quakers and its founder, George Fox, and then analyze the Quakers’ understanding of “Inner Light” and “Peace Testimony” principles. Finally, the article will try to ground the argument of the exceptionality of the Quakers within Western civilization by focusing on the actual attitudes and activities of the Quakers regarding the war in question for nearly a century.

Bu araştırma, ortaokul öğrencilerinin algıladıkları öğretmen tutumlarının ve sahip oldukları saygı değerinin ne düzeyde olduğunu, aralarında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olup olmadığını, cinsiyet ve sınıf seviyesi değişkenlerine göre anlamlı derecede farklılaşmanın olup olmadığını incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada nicel araştırma desenlerinden genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu ortaokul 5, 6, 7 ve 8. sınıf seviyelerinde okuyan 359 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Öğretmen Tutumları Öğrenci Formu” ve “Saygılı Olma Eğilimi Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler araştırmanın amacı ve soruları doğrultusunda istatistiksel işlemlere tabi tutularak çözümlenmiştir. Analizler sonucunda; ortaokul öğrencilerinin algıladıkları demokratik, otoriter ve serbest öğretmen tutum düzeylerine göre saygılı olma eğilimine daha çok sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Öğretmen tutumlarını daha çok demokratik tutum olarak algıladıkları ve algıladıkları öğretmen tutumları ile saygılı olma eğilimleri arasında anlamlı ilişki olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin, demokratik öğretmen tutumuna ilişkin algıları artıkça saygılı olma eğilimleri artmıştır. Kız öğrencilerde demokratik öğretmen tutumu algı düzeyi ve saygılı olma eğilim düzeyi erkek öğrencilere göre daha yüksektir. Algılanan otoriter tutum, serbest tutum ve toplam öğretmen tutum düzeyleri ise erkek öğrencilerde daha yüksektir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin sınıf seviyeleri ile algıladıkları öğretmen tutumlarının alt boyutları, toplam öğretmen tutumları ve saygı değerleri arasında anlamlı düzeyde farklılaşma olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin algıladıkları demokratik öğretmen tutumu 5. sınıf öğrencilerinde, otoriter ve serbest öğretmen tutumu 8. sınıf öğrencilerinde, toplam öğretmen tutumu ve saygı değeri düzeyi 5. sınıf öğrencilerinde diğer sınıf seviyelerine göre daha yüksektir.

Bu araştırma, ilkokulda değerler eğitimini zorlaştıran faktörlere ilişkin sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşlerini belirlemeye dönük bir ölçek geliştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada beşli Likert tipi 36 maddelik taslak ölçek formu hazırlanmıştır. 189 sınıf öğretmeniyle gerçekleştirilen Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi (AFA) sonuçları, ölçeğin 34 maddelik yedi faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğunu ve ölçeğe ait toplam varyansın %68.654'ünü açıkladığını ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca 419 öğretmenden elde edilen verilerle Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi (DFA) yapılmış ve AFA ile belirlenen, yedi faktörden oluşan 34 maddelik yapının DFA ile doğrulandığı sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ölçeğin alt faktörleri “aile ve sosyal çevre”, “öğretim programları ve materyalleri”, “öğretmen özellikleri”, “okul yönetimi”, “öğrenci özellikleri”, “kitle iletişim araçları ve sosyal medya” ve “sınıfın fiziki koşulları ve olanakları” olarak isimlendirilmiş, ölçeğin alt faktörleri için Cronbach Alpha değerleri sırasıyla 0.89, 0.85, 0.86, 0.89, 0.86, 0.82 ve 0.77 şeklinde belirlenmiştir. Buna göre ölçek maddelerinin amaca hizmet ettiği ve maddelerin ayırt edici olduğu görülmektedir.

Teknolojiyi yoğun bir şekilde kullanan ergenlerin siber ortamlarda zorbalığa maruz kaldıkları ve bu durumu çözmeye yönelik girişimlerinin de sınırlı olduğu görülmektedir. Bu anlamda söz konusu sorunun çözümüne yönelik müdahalelere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, insani değerler temelli hazırlanan psiko-eğitim programının, ergenlerin siber zorbalığa ilişkin duyarlılıkları ve baş etme düzeyleri üzerindeki etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yarı deneysel desene göre tasarlanan araştırmanın çalışma grubunda, Karadeniz bölgesindeki bir ortaöğretim kurumunda 9., 10. ve 11. sınıflarda öğrenim görmekte olan 10 deney ve 10 kontrol grubunda olmak üzere toplam 20 erkek ortaöğretim öğrencisi yer almaktadır. Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Siber Zorbalığa İlişkin Duyarlılık Ölçeği ve Ergenlere Yönelik Siber Zorbalıkla Başa Çıkma Ölçeği araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Deney grubuna 8 oturumdan oluşan ve her oturumda bir insani değerin ön plana çıktığı eğitim programı uygulanmıştır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilerin ailelerine ise yine 2 oturumluk siber zorbalıkla ilgili bir eğitim verilmiştir. Kontrol grubuna ise hiçbir müdahalede bulunulmamıştır. Ön test, son test ve izleme testi sonuçları karışık ölçümler için iki faktörlü varyans analizi tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, insani değer yönelimli psiko-eğitim programının ergenlerin siber zorbalıkla ilişkili duyarlılıklarını ve başa çıkma düzeylerini arttırdığını göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, değerler baz alınarak oluşturulan müdahale programının ergenlerin şu anki önemli problemlerinden biri olan siber zorbalık üzerinde etkisinin olduğu söylenebilir.

Ahlak ve değer eğitimi, toplumların gelişmişlik düzeyini yansıtan önemli göstergelerdendir. Şüphesiz her toplumun kendine özgü değerleri olduğu gibi her mesleğin de kendisini özgün kılan bazı ahlaki ve değer ölçütleri bulunur. Bu kapsamda jandarma mesleği de özellikleri itibariyle diğer mesleklerden ayrılır. Türk jandarması terörle mücadeleden asayişin sağlanmasına, sınır güvenliğinden kaçakçılığa kadar birçok problemle başarıyla mücadele etmektedir. İşte bu başarısının altında ahlak ve değer eğitiminin önemi büyüktür. Bu eğitimlerin yanı sıra yurt sevgisi/bilgisi gibi derslerde vatan sevgisi düsturunu personele kazandırmaktadır. Kurulduğu günden bugüne hangi rütbede olursa olsun jandarma personeli, nitelikli birer kolluk kuvveti olarak ülke güvenliğine hizmet etmektedir. Şüphesiz bu hizmetin başarılı olabilmesi için sistemli bir eğitim organizasyonu ve hem akademik hem de mesleki bilgi birikim gerekmektedir. Ayrıca bunun yanında ahlaklı, değerlerine bağlı ve yüreği vatan sevgisiyle çarpan personeller yetiştirilmelidir. Bu çerçevede Jandarma Okullarının teşkilatlandığı XX. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinden 2016 yılında kurulan Jandarma ve Sahil Güvenlik Akademisi’ne kadar geçen süreçte eğitim programları incelendiğinde ahlak, değer ve yurt bilgisi derslerinin bazı dönemlerde müfredata eklendiği ve bu alanlara yönelik konuların önemle üzerinde durulduğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Erken Cumhuriyet evresinden günümüze jandarma eğitiminde ahlak ve değer eğitimine ne ölçüde yer verildiği, yayımlanan müfredatlar ve çeşitli materyaller aracılığıyla incelemeye tabi tutulmuştur. Neticede jandarma eğitiminde bu konunun önemli bir yer kapladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Engelli bireyler günlük yaşantılarında fiziksel ve duygusal olarak birçok problemle karşılaşmaktadır. Fiziksel engellerle daha çok karşılaşan ortopedik engelliler, toplum yaşamında birçok hizmete ulaşmakta zorluk yaşamaktadırlar. Engellilerin gündelik ihtiyaçlarının yanında faydalanmak istedikleri hizmetlerden biri de camilerdeki din hizmetleridir. Bu çalışmada ortopedik engelli bireylerin camiye ve camide verilen din hizmetlerine erişimde yaşadıkları sorunlara yönelik görüşleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmış, engelli gözüyle cami hakkındaki değerlendirmeleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacına uygun ve tutarlı biçimde gerçekleşmesine rehberlik etmesi için nitel desen tercih edilmiştir. Çalışmada kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada, verilerin toplanması için yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya başlamadan önce literatür araştırması yapılmış, literatür araştırması sonucu açık uçlu sorular yazılmıştır. Çalışmada durum çalışması deseni türlerinden bütüncül tek durum deseni ve kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmacı, engelli bireylere ulaşmak için Elazığ İl’inde bulunan engelli dernekleri ile irtibata geçmiş ve bu derneklere mensup olan üyelerle görüşme yapmıştır. Bu görüşmeler sonunda araştırmanın çalışma grubu, ortopedik engelli olan 10 yetişkin bireyle oluşturulmuştur. Katılımcılarla yapılan görüşmeler sonucunda elde edilen verilerin analizinde NVIVO 8 programı kullanılmıştır. Veriler içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucu engelli bireylerin cami hizmetleri ve erişim alanında karşılaştıkları sorunlara yönelik görüşler ortaya çıkmıştır. Sonuç olarak engelli bireylerin camiye daha kolay erişimi için önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The populations and governments of Western societies are usually proud of the values they claim to be the foundation of their multicultural and pluralistic societies. Over the past few decades, the Western world has witnessed a surge in hate crimes, including racism, discrimination, and Islamophobia. This has sparked discussions about the authenticity of Western societies in upholding universal or Western values. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of Islamophobia on universal or Western values. It is crucial to clarify that the research does not seek to make sweeping generalizations about these values. Instead, its focus is a thorough examination of the decline in the beliefs of Muslim men in these values, particularly in response to the growing incidents of Islamophobic attacks. The study delved into two specific Islamophobic assaults to shed light on the concerning extent of Islamophobia, suggesting a potential threat to both universal and Western values as well as social cohesion in the UK. Through individual semi-structured and in-depth interviews, Muslim men residing in the UK were engaged to explain the repercussions of these distressing Islamophobic incidents on their lives, perspectives, and notably, their beliefs in universal or Western values. The findings of the study revealed that acts of Islamophobic violence, particularly those directed at vulnerable and disabled Muslims, have a detrimental impact on the beliefs of Muslim males in the UK regarding universal or Western principles and values. The Muslim men in the study strongly criticised the bystanders in these incidents, expressing their disappointment in the lack of protection for the vulnerable and disabled victims, while emphasizing the link between “bystander apathy” and societal values. Additionally, participants underscored the importance of incorporating Islamic values into the education of their children.

Bu araştırmada ortaokul öğrencilerinin dijital hak ve sorumluluk bilinci ile sosyal ve duygusal öğrenme becerileri arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda belirlenen çalışma grubu İstanbul ili Kartal ilçesindeki ortaokullarda yedinci ve sekizinci sınıflarında öğrenim gören 380 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın veri toplama aracı olarak dijital vatandaşlık ölçeği ve sosyal ve duygusal öğrenme ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen veriler araştırmanın amacına yönelik olarak tarama ve betimsel ilişkisel/korelasyonel desenle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre ortaokul öğrencilerinin dijital hak ve sorumluluk bilinci düzeyinin artması ile sosyal ve duygusal öğrenme becerilerinin de arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Ortaokul öğrencilerinin dijital hak ve sorumluluk bilinci ve sosyal ve duygusal öğrenme beceri düzeyleri ile yaş ve cinsiyet değişkenleri arasında anlamlı ilişki bulunurken sınıf düzeyi değişkeni arasında anlamlı ilişki olmadığı saptanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları kapsamında öğrencilere dijital hak ve sorumluluklarının yanı sıra sosyal ve duygusal öğrenme bilincinin de önemini anlatan eğitimler vermenin öğrencilere dijital beceri kazandırma noktasında faydalı olacağı tavsiyesinde bulunulmuştur.

Öğrencilerin öğrenmelerinde etkili şartlardan biri olan onların ilgi ve ihtiyaçları program değerlendirme ve geliştirme çalışmalarında dikkate alınan bir husustur. Din eğitimi esnasında ilgi duyduğu, merak ettiği bir konuyla karşılaşan öğrencinin öğrenme isteği daha yüksek olacak ve öğrenmenin gerçekleşmesi daha kolay sağlanacaktır. Araştırmada DKAB Dersi öğretim programı kazanımları, öğrencilerin ilgi ve ihtiyaçlarına ilişkin düşünceleri ışığında incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı 2018 yılında hazırlanan DKAB Dersi Öğretim Programı, on birinci sınıf Dünya ve Ahiret, Kur’an’a Göre Hz. Muhammed üniteleri kazanımlarının, öğrencilerin ilgi, ihtiyaç ve beklentileri ile uyumunu ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmada nitel ve nicel verilerin kullanıldığı karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılım gönüllülük esasına dayalı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Buna göre Kayseri il merkezinde bulunan 5 anadolu lisesinde öğrenim görmekte olan veya mezun 294 öğrenciden anket formuna cevap alınmış ve 13 öğrenciyle yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, en yoğun öğrenci ilgisinin 11. sınıf DKAB dersinde Kuran’a göre Hz. Muhammet ünitesi kazanımlarına olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin en yüksek oranda öğrendiklerini düşündükleri kazanımlar da aynı ünitenin kazanımlarıdır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin dünya hayatı ve ahiret hayatı arasındaki ilişkiyi tam olarak anlayamadıkları, cenaze uğurlama uygulamalarını sadece teorik boyutta düşünerek okulda öğrenilmesine gerek görmedikleri, Hz. Muhammed’in örnek şahsiyeti ile ona bağlılık ve itaatin öğretiminde mucizevi veya tehditkâr söylemlerden rahatsız oldukları tespit edilmiştir.

The phenomenon of “digital religion” has emerged as a research field over the past quarter century as religious experiences integrate into the digital sphere. Within this field, researchers have adopted various theoretical frameworks and empirical methodologies to illuminate the complex dynamics that arise from the interaction between digital culture and religion. However, the existing literature on this topic is characterized by fragmentation, which makes a comprehensive understanding of its trajectory difficult. This fragmentation is particularly noticeable in the absence of a coherent narrative that outlines the field’s development. This study aims to provide a scholarly framework for understanding the trajectory of Digital Religion Studies (DRSs), encompassing successive waves of academic research, theoretical paradigms, and thematic foci. This study provides a qualitative assessment of existing literature on the relationship between digital culture and religion through a comprehensive review. A thorough literature review reveals that research in the field of digital religion can be classified into four distinct phases: descriptive, categorical, theoretical, and integrative. The prominent theoretical frameworks that have emerged media ecology, mediation, mediatization, religious-social shaping of technology (RSST), and hypermediation. Finally, the thematic categorization of research primarily revolves around topics, such as rituals, authenticity, identity, community, authority, and embodiment.

The subject of this research is religious broadcasting on Turkish radio and television. The study’s key issue is whether the duration and rates of religious programs have changed. It has been observed that all of the research conducted on religious programs on Turkish radio and television is cross-sectional; there is no longitudinal study. A longitudinal evaluation was performed in this study using the trend analysis technique. The analysis was based on data from the State Institute of Statistics (SIS) and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat)’s Radio and Television Institution Statistics. These statistics offer quantitative data on program genres and airing times in radio, television, and radio-television companies. The relevant institutes’ statistics cover the years 1995 to 2015. The study investigates whether religious programs have increased in duration and rate, as well as if the total number of broadcasting organizations and total broadcasting time have an impact on this increase or decline. The duration of religious programs on radio and television declined between 1995 and 1997, grew between 1997 and 1998, then decreased between 1998 and 2002, according to the findings of the study. However, between 2002 and 2015, and particularly since 2011, there has been a steady growth in the total time of religious programs on radio and television, as well as a considerable difference in the percentage of religious programs in all broadcasts.

Nowadays, when the distinction between the digital and physical worlds is becoming less and less clear, social media is becoming the most important platform to meet people's communication needs. People are increasingly using social media to access the information they need about their beliefs as well as many other issues. While some of those who produce religious content on social media continue to convey their messages using traditional religious language, some content producers produce content in accordance with the popular language of social media. In this study, the issue of how the religious language in social media should be addressed by referring to the opinions of both content producers and social media users. In the research conducted within the study, semi-structured interviews were made with 27 social media users and 5 content producers, and the collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. According to the findings, the language that social media users and content producers should use when sharing religious content on social media should be consistent, sincere, away from financial expectations, concise, tolerant, aesthetic, appropriate to the language of youth and holistic. In addition, religious content should be away from prohibitive language and should not distort the essence of religious values for the sake of popularity.

Silence, the film, revolves around Christian missionaries who traveled to Japan in the 17th century to propagate Christianity and explores their interactions with the local population. The film portrays silence by strongly associating it with martyrdom and alludes to the suffering of Jesus Christ. This glorification of silence reveals findings related to Western perspectives and an Orientalist attitude. These findings will be analyzed according to Orientalist theory, a theory that investigates Western culture's tendency to exoticize and dominate Eastern cultures, in order to examine how the Western missionaries in the film observed and represented Japanese culture. The analysis will employ content analysis methodology to delve into the themes, symbols, and representations in the film. Additionally, it will draw upon Edward Said's theory of Orientalism and the concept of self-Orientalism. The film identifies instances where the Western representation associates silence with martyrdom and belittles Eastern culture. Examples such as the claim that the Japanese people do not understand Christianity, the depiction of Japan as a barren land, the presentation of Japanese characters as stereotypical figures, and the relegation of Eastern spiritual traditions to a lower status all demonstrate the denigration and marginalization of Eastern culture by the Western perspective. Furthermore, the fact that the film is based on a novel written by a Japanese author necessitates an examination of self-Orientalism.

This paper examines the dynamics of one hashtag, #hellobrother, shared on Twitter following the Christchurch terror attack on 15th March 2019. It was analysed as part of a larger study #Contesting Islamophobia: Representation and Appropriation in Mediated Activism which explores the potentials and limitations of counternarratives against Islamophobia on Twitter. Using three ‘trigger events’ (Awan, 2014), Brexit, the Christchurch terror attack, and the Covid pandemic as its starting point, the study analysed six weeks of tweets at different points in time. The data on #hellobrother demonstrates an affective response which, through the affordances of Twitter, gave rise to strong networks of transnational solidarity. It illustrates both the limitations of its potentially transient solidarities but also the capacity of social media to offer visibility to counternarratives, which at specific moments, following specific events can become normative.

The concept of xenophobia, defined as fear and hostility towards the strange and different in a simple and general sense, is quite comprehensive and can be addressed in conjunction with Islamophobia. The terrorist attacks on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019 represent extreme examples of both xenophobia and anti-Islamism. In this study, news articles addressing the Christchurch mosque attacks from January 1, 2023, to October 22, 2023, were collected using keywords and analyzed in a total of 81 articles across nine different frameworks. A comparison was made with previous studies that conducted analyses and framed the topic, allowing an examination of how the content of news articles changed over time since the incident. Furthermore, it has been observed that the Western press did not categorize the attack as anti-Islamism, despite the clear statement in the terrorist's manifesto that he targeted Muslims. Given the influence of media content on shaping individuals' attitudes and perceptions of events, this discrepancy could impede efforts to combat xenophobia and anti-Islamism.

This study reveals a quantitative view of publications about xenophobia, whose visibility has increased through social media. Bibliometric analysis was used in the study, which was based on a systematic examination of the literature. Thus, the quantitative view of publications taking into account xenophobia, which points to a chronic problematic historical past, has been clarified, and the way of theoretical discussion that allows understanding the conceptual development has been found. With bibliometric analysis, the aim of determining the tendency of publications that focus on the theme in question and exemplify the fact that the problematic is seen in periodicity came to the fore, and it was possible to read the title from a wide perspective. Moreover, in the study, which does not ignore the fact that xenophobia becomes visible form through the tools created by the age, separate maps have been made about the publications examining the relationship between social media and xenophobia. Findings have concluded that interest in xenophobia has gained momentum in the last 5 years and revealed that periodic processes that develop with socio-cultural, socio-economic and political reasons update the alien identity, as well as the active role of new communication technologies that make xenophobia visible in this result. So it should be emphasized that there is a need for research focusing on the relationship between social media and xenophobia, and suggested that qualified studies that will fill the gap in the literature.

Film sanatının önemli bileşenlerinden olan sinematografi farklı düşünsel ve estetik yaklaşımlara dayanan filmlerin birbirlerinden ayrıştıkları ve kendi özgün tarzlarını oluşturdukları noktalardan biridir. Görüntü yönetimiyle özgün bir tarz oluşturmayı başaran yönetmenlerden biri de Semih Kaplanoğlu’dur. Kaplanoğlu’nun insanı bu dünyadaki bağlarından koparmadan, manevi tecrübeleriyle kadraja aldığı görüntüye hikâyeden bağımsızlaşan otonom bir yapı kazandırmakta oldukları görülmektedir. Bu çalışma, Kaplanoğlu sinemasında sinematografik uygulamaların nasıl bir üslup oluşturduğunu ve görüntü yönetiminin filmlerde kurulan düşünsel ve manevi yapının oluşumundaki rolünü tespit etmektedir. Yumurta, Süt, Bal ve Buğday filmlerinde beliren temel anlam ve değerler bağlamında seçilen sahne ve sekanslara ait çekimler kare kare analiz yöntemiyle çözümlenmektedir. Yumurta’da kompozisyonları kadraj dışına açıp, kadrajdaki negatif alanı kadraj dışındaki ruhsal alana bağlayan, Süt’te karakterin ruhsal durumunu kompozisyonun iki ucu arasındaki sınırı geçip geçmeme yönündeki tercihte saklayan, Bal’da düşük ışıklı kompozisyonlarda karakterin ruhsal gerilimini ortaya koyan Kaplanoğlu, Buğday’da ise manevi olanı renklerden arındırılmış bir hayal düzleminde suretlendirmektedir.

Since Salafi communities in Türkiye have begun to attract public attention, the necessity of research on Salafi groups has emerged. This study deeply analyzes the sermons given by digital Salafi preachers on YouTube in order to explore their definitions of Muslim identity and how they construct it. The research includes the sermons of six different Salafi preachers, and these sermons give an idea about the basic principles, beliefs and interpretations of Salafi thought in Türkiye. The research adopts a case study approach and categorizes the videos according to their thematic content, presenters and context. Then, content analysis is performed on these sermons. The results show that Salafi preachers construct Muslim identity with new definitions and roles and propose a new typology of Muslims in society. Muslim identity changes through sermons; while some definitions are inclusive, others can be exclusionary and marginalizing. The wide availability of these online sermons enables Salafi preachers to disseminate their views and beliefs to a wider audience, thereby influencing the construction of Muslim religious identity in line with the Salafi understanding. This research contributes to a certain extent to our understanding of the construction of Salafi ideology and its dissemination mechanisms through new media. It is also intended to serve as a resource for further research.

‘Yalan Haber, Nefret Söylemi ve Kültürel Irkçılık Kıskacında İslam’ adıyla yayımlanan sempozyum kitabı, sempozyumda sunulan bildirilerin tam metinlerinden oluşmaktadır. 2023 yılında Radyo ve Televizyon Üst Kurulu (RTÜK) tarafından yayımlanan bu kitapta İslamofobi ve İslam karşıtlığı temelinde yapılan akademik çalışmaları, sempozyum kapsamında belirlenen ‘Nefret Söylemi ve İslamofobi’, ‘Yalan Haber ve İslamofobi’ ve ‘Kültürel Irkçılık ve İslamofobi’ şeklindeki üç ana başlık temelinde ele almak mümkündür. Bu bağlamda kitap; Nefret Söylemi, Yalan Haber ve Kültürel Irkçılık konuları temelinde İslamofobiyi ayrıntılı bir şekilde irdeleyen çalışmaların anlatımı üzerine kuruludur.

Media meets individuals' information/news needs, entertains them, and influences their political preferences through the content it produces. In addition to these fundamental functions, media, which also has many functions that can shape everyday life, plays an important role in constructing/determining meaning in an individual's mental world. The increase in Islamophobia, which has become a global problem, has also been influenced by the problematic nature/editorial policies of international and national media outlets. The media, which produces content with a form that dictates how individuals should think about Islam and Muslims, and what meanings should form in their minds, shapes the mental world of individuals with the meaning frames it creates. This study aims to understand in what frames news about elements known as Islamic clothing/appearance, such as headscarves, hijab, veiling, turban, thobe, taqiyah, and beard are presented in the Turkish media. Therefore, news articles on the websites of media organizations named Sözcü, Cumhuriyet, and Halk TV, which were selected through purposive sampling, were analyzed using the framing technique. The research findings indicate that concepts related to Islam and Muslims are presented in a radicalized manner, framed with negative narratives and that Islamophobic thinking patterns are conveyed to individuals.

This article endeavors to delve into the realm of promoting services connected to Islam within the expansive domain of the Go-jek application. This particular aspect can be perceived as a form of religious commodification. Employing the discourse analysis, the exploration focuses on the episodes of “e-Badah,” which aim to aid in the seamless execution of Islamic practices. Extensive data was gathered from numerous instances, paying close attention to the taglines and jargon conveyed within these advertisements. The findings indicate that the commodification of religion within Go-jek’s eBadah episodes is evident in the utilization of visual and textual tools that encourage the audience to partake in the various socially nuanced religious practices facilitated by the Go-jek app. This phenomenon underscores the interplay between the commodification of religion in advertising and the practice of mediatization of religion, which is intrinsically linked to the pervasive nature of media platforms. In the case of eBadah, Go-jek’s app depicts mediated religious practices and highlights how media acts as a facilitator for such practices.

While historical and spiritual characters have been present in Turkish cinema history since the 1950s, recent developments in filming technologies, increased interest in television, and the rise in popularity of TV series have contributed these characters to also appear on television screens. They have gained an unprecedented audience and follower potential. Television series that depict the life stories of religious figures have achieved great success with modern possibilities, and visualizing the spiritual teachings of these personalities and conveying them to people through series has become exceptionally important. As a result, multiple religious characters have been featured in television series, and these characters, previously only read about, have now come to life on screen. This study focuses on the presentation of historical/religious characters on screen, with specific reference to Imam Ghazali, Tapduk Emre, and Mahperi Hunat Hatun, who hold great importance in Turkish-Islamic history, as exemplars. The universe of the study consists of religious/Sufi characters on television, while its sample comprises the listed names. The main objective of the study is to research how these figures are depicted on screen. Through narrative analysis, it is concluded that the examined characters are mostly successfully portrayed on screen, although at times, there may be discrepancies between the depiction and the historical reality.

Within Protestant theology, Arminianism is a theological perception based on the views of Jacob Arminius (1559-1609), who lived in the Netherlands in the 16th century, and it opposes Calvinism’s theological propositions on fate, grace, human will, the atonement of Jesus, and the perseverance of believers. Arminianism, which started to find a place in England with the influence of Remonstrants, later moved to America with intense migrations. In America especially John Wesley and Methodists played an important role in the spread of Arminianism. Many Protestant denominations in America prefer the belief in destiny based on the emphasis of Arminianism on universal atonement and the will of man in salvation rather than the principles of Calvinism. In this article, firstly, the life of Arminius will be presented, and then his objections to Calvin’s Reformed theology will be discussed. Later, the spread of Arminianism in America will be mentioned. At this point, John Wesley’s Arminianism will be discussed. Then the Protestant communities that are closer to the Arminian approach rather than Calvinism will be mentioned. By this study, Arminian Protestant theology in America will be explained although this theology is not completely based on the arguments of classical Arminianism. Thus, the origin and course of the theological debates between Calvinism and Arminianism that have continued until today in America will be revealed.

his study examines the transfer of Zionist ideas, which arose in the context of British Protestantism, to the USA, with a special emphasis on the pivotal role played by John Nelson Darby. The aim of the study is to provide insights into the origins of the Christian Zionist approach that has gained prominence in American politics in recent times. The main question is: “What is the significance and influence of John Nelson Darby in the development of Christian Zionist ideas in the United States?” Firstly, I will summarize John Nelson Darby’s life, followed by an exploration of his contributions to the development of Christian Zionism in the USA. Lastly, I will situate Darby’s views in today’s Christian Zionism movement.

A text entitled "The Hymn of Judas Thomas the Apostle in the country of the Indians" in the apocryphal "The Acts of Thomas" has long been noticeable for the study of Gnosticism. This text, which has a content independent of the general narrative of the book in which it appears, has been discussed for its hymn-like structure and content that recalls many characteristic features of Gnosticism. Various scholars are of the opinion that this hymn carries a burden of meaning in the context of Christian theology and doctrine of salvation, even though it is independent of the general theme of the book in which it appears. On the other hand, many scholars of Gnosticism believe that this hymn is an important text reflecting early Gnosticism. Various opinions have been put forward regarding the origin of the text, which is called “the Hymn of the Pearl" or “the Hymn of the Soul" based on its content, the cultural world to which it belongs, and the characteristics of the themes in its content. This study will examine the text, generally known as the "the Hymn of the Pearl", with reference to the question of whether Gnostic dualism, one of the characteristic features of Gnosticism exists, and will draw attention to its parallelism with the Gnostic doctrines in the Mandaean literature. The main thesis of this study is that the Hymn of the Pearl of which main theme is the salvation of the pearl, that is captive in the world of darkness, is a text within early Christian Gnosticism based on Gnostic dualism and the doctrine of salvation.

When the Byzantine Emperor Justinian inaugurated the Church of Hagia Sophia in 537 AD, mosaic icons did not exist. Instead, Justinian’s program included non-figurative and abstract decorative motifs and lots of crosses. The first appearance of the mosaic icons was dated to the late ninth century, after the final victory of the Iconodule theology in 843. The Orthodox church doctrine venerates icons as an object of worship in both public and private devotion. This doctrine mainly resulted from the Iconoclastic Controversy (726-843). It was a doctrinal controversy over the legitimacy of the employment of the pictures of Christ, Mary, and other holy people in worship in Christianity. The controversy took place mainly in Constantinople, where Hagia Sophia stood as the largest church of the entire empire. Therefore, the church witnessed the controversy as its outcome found its place on her walls and ceilings. In other words, when the traditional Iconoclastic view was dominant in the church, Hagia Sophia’s decorations included only non-figurative motifs and crosses. In contrast, icons began to appear in the Hagia Sophia after the vindication of Iconodulism as the official doctrine of the church. The purpose of this essay is to shed some light, with the help of modern studies, on the Iconoclastic and Iconodule theologies underlying these two kinds of alternative decorations. In this context, we will refer to Horos of the Iconoclastic Council of Hiereia in 754 for the Iconoclastic theology, and to the theological writings of John of Damascus for the Iconodule theology. By doing this, we will show how these alternative theological standpoints translated into the walls and ceilings of the Hagia Sophia.

The early Christians compiled lists of selected passages from the Jewish scriptures and preserved them as sacred writings. When the content of these extract collections is analysed, the anti-Jewish apologetic-polemic characteristic stands out. These extract collections were also used in catechist education. Over time, early Christians attributed the status of testimonia to certain passages that became prominent among other proof-texts, so that, compared to other circulating proof-texts, the testimonia passages were regarded as testimonials to the theological truth that did not even require interpretation. The creation and preservation of testimonia collections became not only a technical activity for Christians but also a tradition that shaped early Christian theology around certain central passages. Traces of this tradition can be seen in the works of the early church fathers and among later Christians. Greek, Latin and Syriac testimonia collections were translated into Arabic and used as sources of biblical proof-texts in both oral debates against Muslims and apologetic-polemical works. The primary purpose of this study is to examine the connection between the biblical quotations in the works of Christian Arab writers of different periods and the testimonia tradition. This study focuses on how biblical testimonia, which accompanied theological arguments from the first centuries onwards, were used and interpreted in Christian authors' apologetics and polemics against Muslims together with the strategy of "arguing from the book" and what are the similarities and differences in scriptural argumentation of Arab Christian authors compared to the previous testimonia tradition.
