Parenting, traditionally associated with positive feelings, simultaneously presents formidable challenges that can be detrimental to both families and children. The emergence of parental burnout as a contemporary construct describes the complex array of issues and hardships faced by parents. In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the prevalence of parental burnout and its consequences. Accordingly, this review critically examines the evolution of burnout as a concept, particularly within the realm of caregiving, and subsequently delves into the genesis of parental burnout. This comprehensive exploration includes an analysis of the primary determinants contributing to parental burnout and its multifaceted effects on parents, children, and family relationships. Finally, this review culminates in an outline of prospective implications and interventions designed to mitigate parental burnout, thereby providing valuable insights for professionals involved in the support and guidance of families and children.

- Abstract
Migrant parents assist their kids in adapting to the cultural environment, mostly through everyday talk. The present study investigated the validity and reliability of the Cultural Socialization Questionnaire (CSQ), developed by Hughes & Johnson (2001), in a sample of Turkish parents. All parents (N=141) migrated from small/rural to metropolitan/urban settlements in regions of Turkey. Parents completed the CSQ, the perceived discrimination scale, and a demographic information form. The results demonstrated that the Turkish version of the questionnaire has the same three-dimensional structure: pluralism, preparation for bias, and promotion of mistrust. CSQ's subscale scores significantly correlated with the parents' perceived discrimination and family demographic variables in expected directions. As findings suggest, the CSQ is a valid and reliable scale among internal migrant parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

parental praise ,child rearing ,parenting ,Psychiatry ,RC435-571 - Abstract
Praise is stated as a good performance resource that can increase the individual's sense of competence and motivate their new learning. When the literature is examined, the importance of communication with the child in parenting is emphasized, especially the power of the words used by the parents. Parental praise is expressed as parents' repetition of the desired behaviors in children and giving feedback that will make them feel warm and sensitive with their words and behaviors in order to indicate the satisfaction felt towards them. Studies emphasize that parental praise is an important method in child development and a method that parents use very often. It is reported that many parents prefer to use praise as a tool to build self-confidence in their child. In terms of positive discipline, it is assumed that praise creates a reward value as a result of operant conditioning and can affect behavioral acquisition in the child's development. The type of parental praise plays an important role in how children form their self-image. It is in these early relationships that children first begin to feel capable, competent, and loved. Although praise is expressed as a source of motivation when it cannot be used beneficially, it can become harmful to the child when used incorrectly or excessively. At this point, the content of the praise is important. In this study, the concept of parental praise is discussed, the content of praise, which is seen as a reference to motivation, is examined and its benefits for child development are tried to be explained.

EMOTION regulation , *PARENTING , *EMOTIONS - Abstract
This study investigates the effect of digital parenting awareness on children's emotion regulation skills. The research was designed with a relational screening model. The study group consists of 203 parents with elementary school-age children. Of the participants, 66% (n:134) were female, and 34% (n:69) were male. The mean age was 38.37±7.11. Data were collected through the "Personal Information Form," developed by the researcher, "Digital Parenting Awareness Scale," and "Scale of Emotion Regulation in Children-Adult Form,". Descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analyses were conducted on SPSS to analyze the data. The findings suggested significant associations between dimensions of digital parenting awareness (negative modeling, digital neglect, efficient use, and protecting from risks) and emotion intensity and regulation. Regression analysis showed that digital parenting awareness predicted children's emotion regulation skills. The increase in negative modeling and neglect and the decrease in efficient use and protection had a negative effect on children’s emotional intensity. The findings were discussed based on the previous literature, and some suggestions were made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PARENTING , *FAMILIES - Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between the levels of parenting of adults in childhood and their feelings of family integrity, and factors affecting these. In the researh based on the relational screening model, the study group consists of 277 women and 66 men. The data was collected online with Parented Child Scale and Family Sense of Integrity Scale and analyzed using Spearman Brown Correlation Coefficient and CHAID algorithm. As a result; in The Sense of Family Integrity Scale, the most important factor affecting adult intelligibility is their marital status; It has been determined that the intelligibility of single adults with a low education level is lower, while the intelligibility of those with undergraduate and graduate degrees and married is higher. It was determined that the most important factor affecting the significance score of adults is the number of siblings, the most important factor affecting overall level of parenting is their father's education status, and the most important factor affecting the level of sibling-oriented parenting is their age. It was determined that as the level of parenting of adults in childhood increased, their sense of family integrity decreased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PARENTING , *EDUCATIONAL leadership , *PRAISE - Abstract
Parental involvement is one of the most significant factors that enhance the quality of education because parental attitudes determine children's behaviors in the classroom, and children's behaviors in the classroom directly affect the quality of learning. Parents have different attitudes towards praise. While some parents have a positive attitude towards praise, some have a negative attitude. School leaders can design effective parental involvement programs by identifying these attitudes. However, there is no reliable and valid scale in the literature that measures parents' attitudes towards praise. Therefore, the purpose of this quantitative research is to develop a valid and reliable scale that measure parents' attitudes towards praise. According to the Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis results, a 9-item scale has been developed. The Parental Praise Attitude Scale consists of two factors. These factors are named "motivation" and "negatcontrol" attitudes. The structures of the scales have been validated with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Psychological Control Scale, Punishment Scale and High Expectation Scale were used for concurrent validity. A positive relationship was found between the motivation sub-scale and these three scales. This finding indicates that praises are negative parental attitudes and confirms the theses of Self-Regulation Theory rather than the behavioral approachl. In conclusion, Parental Praise Attitude Scale have been introduced to the literature as valid and reliable measurement tools to be used in parental involvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There has been limited number of studies on sharenting which has occured as a new concept related to parenting due to parent’s extensive sharing of information about their children on social media. The aim of the present study was to examine mothers’ and fathers’ sharing of their children’s photos on Instagram as a sharenting behavior with its predictors. Thus, the relationship of the frequency of sharing children’s photos with the demographic (gender, age, education level and perceived financial status), social network structure-related (online: number of Instagram followers, ratio of followers liking and commenting on children’s photos; offline: perceived social support), and Instagram-use-related (frequency of visiting account, duration of having an account and frequency of general sharing) factors was analyzed. Six hundred seventy three parents using Instagram completed the demographic information form, the use of social media form, and the perceived offline social support scale. Five hundred thirty seven (300 mothers) parents reported to have shared at least one photo of their children on Instagram. Mothers and fathers did not differ in the frequency of sharing photos and the analysis of the contents of shared photos demonstrated that special events, trips and holidays with children, and times with family and friends were the most frequently reported contents. Regression analysis showed that the frequency of sharing children’s photos was predicted negatively by parents’ age; and positively by the frequency of general sharing, the ratio of followers liking children’ photos, and the perceived offline social support.

FATHERS , *COVID-19 pandemic , *STAY-at-home orders , *QUANTITATIVE research , *EDUCATIONAL attainment , *PARENTING - Abstract
The closure of workplaces, schools and childcare centers in accordance with the measures taken within the scope of the Covid-19 pandemic, made it compulsory for family members to spend longer time at home. Although they are involved in every moment of their children's lives, it is thought that there are changes in fathers' parenting skills and parenting skill levels due to the increase in the time they spend at home during the pandemic process. Based on this idea, it was aimed to examine the change in parenting levels of fathers during the Covid-19 process. The study group of this research, which was designed according to the survey model and cross-sectional survey design, which is one of the quantitative research methods, consists of 349 fathers who have at least one child between the ages of 4-18. In the analysis of the data, correlation coefficient values and heat map method were used. As a result of the research; fathers' competency scale scores and demographic variables are only related to educational status; it has been found that fathers spend more time with their children and strengthen their communication with their children and other family members due to the increase in their competence scale scores and the time they stay at home. In the study, it was also found that the stress level experienced by the father affected the behavior and stress level of his child negatively, that there were changes in the parenting skills of the fathers during the pandemic, and that the fathers who felt inadequate in parenting received support mostly from their spouses, and least from family elders and books when they felt inadequate.

The concept of “Sharenting” can be examined within the scope of negative parenting or abuse of parenting. Sharenting is a neology deriving from “sharing” and “parenting” and refers to parents’ over-sharing of photos, videos, stories and any information regarding their children aged under 18 years on social media. The purpose of the present study was to explore the views of Turkish and British mothers about their sharenting on social media. In order to examine this, a qualitative research method was applied. The study was carried out with the mothers (65 Turkish and British mothers, respectively) of children aged under twelve years who attended elementary schools in the cities of İzmir (Turkey) and Nottingham (UK). Research data were collected via face-to-face semi-structured interviews with the mothers in both countries and content analysis was applied. In the study, although some differences regarding sharenting between two cultures, the results showed that similar themes based on dynamics of technology have similar effects on societies or mothers. Finally, the reasons of sharenting and their views about sharenting were discussed and It was concluded that mothers should be aware of the information they share about their children.

CHILD development , *PARENTAL overprotection , *PUNISHMENT , *PARENTING , *MOTHERS , *SCHEMAS (Psychology) - Abstract
According to the Schema Therapy Theory, different parenting styles play an important role in the development of early maladaptive schemas through the unmet or overly met basic psychological needs in childhood. It is suggested that these schemas lead to the development of different psychopathologies and impairment in interpersonal functioning. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between different perceived parenting styles and specific types of interpersonal problems. A total of 498 adults (324 women, 174 men) aged between 18 and 65 participated in the study. Interpersonal Problems Inventory, Young Parenting Inventory and demographic information form were used as measures. The circumplex analysis examined the representations of perceived parenting styles of mother and father on the interpersonal circumplex space. Results indicated that the punitiveness of mother and father, the exploitative/abusive parenting style of the father, and the permissive parenting style of the mother located on the hostile-dominant problems quarter; the conditional/achievement-focused parenting style of the mother and the father located on the friendly-dominant problem quarter; the overprotective parenting style of the mother located on the friendly-submissive problem quarter; the emotionally depriving parenting style of the mother and restricted/emotionally inhibited parenting style of the father are located on the hostile-submissive problems quarter. The findings were discussed in terms of their empirical support for the schema therapy theory and related clinical implications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION[|]The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of Parenting and Family Adjustment Scale (PAFAS) to measure parenting skills and family adjustment in Turkish Parents.[¤]METHODS[|]The sample of our study consisted of the parents of children between the ages of 2-12. The clinical sample is from 201 mothers or fathers who were in the first 1-month evaluation process at the Dokuz Eylul University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic; the population sample consisted of 202 mothers or fathers living in Balçova. For test-retest measurement, the test was re-administered to 58 parents in the community sample two weeks later. Psychometric properties of the scale were compared to Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire.[¤]RESULTS[|]Internal consistency of Parenting subscale were found ''quite reliable'' and Family Adjustment subscale were found ''highly reliable''. There was no significant difference in the test-retest application of the PAFAS Turkish Form subscale and factor structures. PAFAS Turkish Form has high power to differentiate community and clinical samples; has a five-factor structure validity. It was determined that it has concurrent criterion validity with Parenting Styles and Dimensions Scale, Marriage Life Scale and General Health Questionnaire.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]In this study, it has been found that the Turkish version of PAFAS is a good valid and reliable scale for screening multiple domains of family functioning.[¤]

oxytocin ,social relations ,parenting ,attachment ,Psychology ,BF1-990 - Abstract
Oxytocin is a hormone that is highly influenced by psychology research and is thought to play an active role in many basic topics such as attachment, social functions, survival, defining emotional facial expressions, social relationships, love, reproduction, parenting and childcare. In the absence of social interaction, it is thought that it is inevitable for people to have problems in reproductive behavior, development and even survival. It is suggested that the genes responsible for the formation of oxytocin-type peptides, which are claimed to facilitate social interaction, evolved 700 million years ago. The amount of oxytocin in the brain and blood varies by species, and individual differences in oxytocin level are associated with personality traits, including social behavior. The amount of oxytocin peaks during breastfeeding in women and contributes to the establishment of a social and hormonal relationship between mother and baby by facilitating milk delivery. It strengthens the bond in social relations and increases the catching of positive cues. Thus, it mediates positive relationships by reducing anxiety and providing an atmosphere of trust by suppressing stress-induced cortisone release, When a safe environment is created, by providing fearless or more comfortable relationships in social behaviors, loving relationships can be provided by supporting the behavioral effects of oxytocin. In addition, it has been observed that oxytocin use has been applied and contributed to the treatment of many psychiatric diseases such as autism, substance abuse, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobia, and aggression. It is thought that the personality, which is based on our social behaviors such as personality formation, is also related to the amount of oxytocin. Interdisciplinary studies are needed to investigate the physiological, behavioral and cognitive aspects of oxytocin, which significantly affects social life. In this study, the importance of oxytocin in our social life and neurobiological basis is emphasized and it is aimed to discuss its behavioral outcomes in the context of allostatic, fear/stres, social-evolutionary and social salience theories.

Aim:This study was conducted for the purpose of determining the validity and reliability of the Parenting scale in a Turkish sample.Materials and Methods:The study was conducted as a methodological-descriptive-cross sectional study. The study sample consisted of 355 parents who had applied to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Polyclinic of Uludağ University. However; as 85 parents did not precisely fill the scales, they were excluded from the sample and the analyses were conducted on the basis of 270 parents. The study data were collected using the Demographic Data Collection Form and the Parenting scale. Validity analyses of the scale were examined via explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis. The internal consistency of the scale was evaluated via Cronbach alpha, Spearman-Brown and Guttman split-half coefficients. The relationship between item-total score and item-subscale total score was examined via Pearson correlation analysis. Results:The Cronbach alpha values of the Parenting scale were determined as; 0.935 in the lower dimension of Laxness, 0.916 in the lower dimension of Over-reactivity, 0.770 in the lower dimension of Hostility (use of verbal or physical force) and 0.829 in the total scale. The factor loads varied between; 0.52 and 0.98 in the lower dimension of Laxness, 0.75 and 0.92 in the lower dimension of Over-reactivity and 0.46 and 0.95 in the lower dimension of Hostility. It was determined that the total scale scores and correlations of items in the scale varied between 0.20-0.66. It was also determined that item-subscale total score correlations varied between; 0.61-0.96 in the lower dimension of Laxness, 0.70-0.86 in the lower dimension of Over-reactivity and 0.68-0.91 in the lower dimension of Hostility. Conclusion:The Parenting scale is a valid and reliable tool that can be used in Turkish culture.

rejection sensitivity ,attachment ,parenting ,Psychiatry ,RC435-571 - Abstract
The rejection sensitivity, which is defined as waiting to be rejected, being ready to perceive, and being overreacted to rejection, is seen as an important fact affecting the social and psychological adjustment of the individual, the interpersonal relationship. The relevant literature, which states that the rejection sensitivity has a cognitive-affective processing dynamic, sees it as an advocacy motivational system intended to protect the possible rejection of the self from possible other people. On the other hand, the most important source of rejection sensitivity is parents, and in this context, they are closely related to attachment and parenting styles; at the same time it is stated that the rejection sensitivity is related to some psychopathologies and that most people affect romantic relations. Moving from these points, the purpose of the study is guiding the possible empirical work to be done in the future for the rejection sensitivity which is in the focus of the interpersonal relationship success.
