Objective: Acute leukemia is the most common type of malignancy in childhood. Fever, malaise, hepatosplenomegaly and lymphadenopathy are among the most common presentations of leukemia. It is of vital importance for the physician, who is the first to evaluate the patient, to comprehend/ understand about the presenting findings of acute leukemia for early diagnosis and treatment. We aimed to emphasize the significant clues which point to acute leukemia in childhood for non-hematologist physicians. Materials and Methods: All children aged 0-18 years who were diagnosed with acute leukemia in our clinic between May 2017 and February 2021 were included. The complaints, physical examination findings and blood test results of all patients diagnosed with acute leukemia at their admission were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The files of 62 children with acute leukemia were analyzed. The male/female ratio was 1.58, and the mean age was 6±4.93 years (min-max 1-17 years). The median time of onset of complaints was 15 days. The most common complaints were fatigue (85.5%), fever (51.1%) and leg pain (33.8%). The most common findings on physical examination were pallor (74.2%), hepatosplenomegaly(43.1%) and lymphadenopathy (37.1%). At admission, all of the patients had abnormalities of complete blood counts in at least one series. 79% of the patients had anemia (hb<10g/dl), 69.4% had thrombocytopenia (<100000/mm3) and 67.7% of the patients had neutropenia (<1500/mm3). The most common abnormality in the biochemical tests was elevated LDH values (median LDH: 576IU/L). Conclusion: Recognizing the most common presentation findings of childhood leukemia by the first physician is an important step for early diagnosis and treatment in childhood leukemia. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a severe condition that occurs rarely in pediatric age group. Etiology is unclear. Diagnosis may be made based on clinical presentation and laboratory findings. Described in the present report is the diagnosis of SLE in an 11-year-old girl with leg pain and growth retardation. Objective: It was thougt that addition of calcium dobesilate to therapy would have a beneficial influence on improving the symptoms in the patients who e receive medication for acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Methods: A total of 88 patients with acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) were evaluated between October 2010-2011. Patients were divided into two groups. In both groups, the patients were anticoagulated with one dose enoxaparine daily for ten days and then warfarin during 6 months. A total of 1.5 g/day calcium dobesilate was added to therapy which the patients were given in group A. The patients who were in group B were followed with only anticoagulant treatment as a control group. All patients in both groups were evaluated with physical examination and venous duplex ultrasonography (VDU) in the second week, 1, 2 and 6 months after diagnosis of disease. Results: Subacute findings in VDU were seen in 24 patients in the second week, 16 in first month, 4 in the second month in group A, 28 them in the second week, 8 in the first month, 8 in the second month control in group B. Leg edema returned to normal limits in the 24 patients in the second week, 8 of them in the first month, 8 of them in the second month, 2 of them in the sixth month in group A, 25 in thesecond week, 8 in the first month, 6 in the second month, 5 in the sixth month in group B. It was seen that leg pain was reduced in 36patients in the second week, 8 in the first month in group A, 30 in the second week, 14 in the first month in group B. Conclusion: Added therapy with calcium dobesilate contributes to improving symptoms in patients who have acute DVT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Phlegmasia cerulea dolens is a rare condition caused by complete venous occlusion and often results in tissue necrosis, limb amputation, or death. In this study, a 51 year old female presenting at our emergency department with leg edema, leg pain and cyanosis and was diagnosed with phlegmesia cerulea dolens, which is a life-threatening complication of deep venous thrombosis. Prompt diagnosis and treatment initiation are important to prevent pulmonary emboli, gangrene, amputation, and, ultimately, death. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Classically, aortic dissection presents as sudden, severe pain in the chest, back, or abdomen that is ripping or tearing in nature. Case report: In this case report, we aimed to present a 69 years old male patient admitted to our emergency department due to pain in the right leg and took the diagnosis to acute aortic dissection. Conclusion: Aortic dissections that present only with symptoms of lower extremity ischemia are unusual. When this diagnosis is delayed or missed, frequently results in a fatal outcome.
