Introduction: The aim of this study is to examine the trends in the mortality rates of the population between the ages of 0-24 in various income groups around the world in 1990 and 2021 by age groups and gender in comparison with Türkiye. It also aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in stillbirth rates between Türkiye and income groups in the last 22 years. Materials and Methods: Data on child deaths and stillbirths between 1990 and 2021 were extracted from the United Nations child mortality database and analyzed by age groups <1 year, 1-4 years, 5-14 years, 15-24 years, gender and country income groups. Prism statistical analysis package program was used for comparative graphics and analysis. Results: Mortality rates in all age groups in the population aged 0-24 years are on a downward trend from 1990 to 2021. While the mortality rate at age <5 years decreased by 62% in the high-income countries group, it decreased even more in Türkiye, reaching 88%. Similarly, stillbirth rates in Türkiye decreased significantly, approaching the level of high-income countries. In 2020-2021, for the first time in Türkiye, the mortality rate in the 15-24 age group was lower than in the high-income countries group. In general, the male population has a higher mortality rate than the opposite sex across income and age groups. Conclusion: Although mortality rates between 0-24 years of age have shown a certain downward trend in each income group, the rate of mortality varies according to the income level of countries. In recent years, there has been a significant decrease in the 0-24 mortality rates in Türkiye. However, in order to further reduce these rates, countries need to improve their own access to health services and gender equitable preventive measures such as nutrition and immunization. BUSINESS enterprises , *FREIGHT & freightage , *SAILING ships , *STOCK companies , *OTTOMAN Empire - Abstract
As of 19th century, foreign trade developed rapidly in the Ottoman Empire. The developments that started in Europe affected the whole world in a short time. Transitioning from sailing ships to steam ships brought about significant changes, particularly in the maritime industry and economically. The rapid proliferation of steam ships in the Ottoman Empire caused a change in Ottoman maritime trade. Şirket-i Hayriye caused important developments in the economic and social fields in the Ottoman Empire. It was established in 1850 as the first joint stock company in the Ottoman Empire. Since Şirket-i Hayriye was established on the Bosphorus, it played an important role in passenger and freight transportation and led to the developments in the maritime transportation in the country. In this study, we aimed to illustrate the needs addressed by the company and the key tasks it undertook upon its establishment. The changes in the company's income and expenses between 1857 and 1909 will be analyzed in relation to the economic and political conditions of the country. How the company increased its revenues by increasing its fleet of ships over time will be analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study aims to examine the effects of per capita income, foreign direct investment (FDI) and primary energy consumption (BET) on the load capacity factor (LCF) within the framework of the load capacity curve (LCC) hypothesis for the Turkish economy. Additionally, the validity of the LCC, pollution a haven, and pollution halo hypotheses in Turkey is examined. For this purpose, Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root tests and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds test method are applied using annual data for the period 1973-2022. The study concludes that there is no U-shaped relationship between per capita income and environmental quality in Turkey and therefore the LCC hypothesis is not valid. On the other hand, FDI has a negative impact on environmental quality in Turkey and the pollution haven hypothesis is valid. Environmental quality declines when BET grows, according to the negative relationship between BET and LCF, which is one of the model's control variables. Based on the study's findings, Turkey should switch from using fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, increase the activity of government oversight and regulation processes, and develop policies to raise the environmental consciousness of businesses and households in both the production and consumption processes. Interventions to increase agricultural production have always been biased toward production without much consideration of market strategies. It is against this background, several development agents initiated a project that combines rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school approaches with the aim of transforming smallholder farmers’ agricultural production and marketing, respectively. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of combined rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school approaches on income and food security. The present study applied a cross-sectional research design, and the data used were gathered from a sample of 321 farming households, selected using a multi-stage random sampling procedure. Of the 321 respondents, 93 were farmers who participated in rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school, and 100 and 128 were farmers who participated in rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation interventions and non-participants, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and propensity score matching for quantitative data, while content analysis was applied for analyzing qualitative information. The results indicate that, across farmers enrolled in rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school and rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation only, and nonparticipants, there was no significant difference in levels of income and food diversity, although there was a positive difference. The results of rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school and rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation-only interventions were Tanzania Shilling (TZS) 73,947 and TZS 51,796, respectively, with food diversity scores of 7.454 and 7.418. The drought faced by farmers during piloting was found to be the main challenge for the insignificance impact of the approaches. The results of our study suggest that the adoption of combined rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation and farmer market school in agricultural interventions is likely to improve smallholder farmers’ income and food security. The two approaches should be promoted to produce additional benefits in terms of productivity and land use efficiency.

HEALTH self-care , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *DATA analysis , *INCOME , *RESEARCH methodology evaluation , *PSYCHOLOGICAL adaptation , *EXPERIMENTAL design , *RESEARCH methodology , *STATISTICS , *HEALTH promotion , *DATA analysis software ,RESEARCH evaluation - Abstract
Background: Self-care is the ability of individuals to promote health, prevent illness, maintain health and cope with illness and disability. Self-care consists of three dimensions; health promotion and adherence to treatment (selfcare maintenance), understanding the body and symptom recognition (self-care monitoring), and taking action to control symptoms (self-care management). In this study, we aimed to conduct a Turkish validity and reliability study of the Self-Care Inventory developed by Michela Luciani et al. to measure self-care in the general adult population. Materials and Methods: The study was of methodological type. Data were collected at Zeliha Öncel Family Health Center in Şanlıurfa between September and October 2022. The study was completed with 311 individuals aged 18 years and older. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS software. Bartlett and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin tests were performed to examine the factor structure. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to test the appropriateness of the items to the factor structures a nd the adequate r epresentation of these factors and the structure. For the reliability of the inventory; item total score analysis, Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was used to determine internal consistency, Tukey's Summability Analysis was used to evaluate whether it had summability, and Hotelling T Square test was used to determine response bias. Results: Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was 0.86. As a result of the split half test, the Cronbach alpha value of the first half of the inventory was 0.75 and the Cronbach alpha value of the second half was 0.77. According to the results of Tukey's test of non-collectivity, the non- collectivity value of the inventory was found to be P<0.01. The inter-item F value was 59,30, P<0.01. Hotelling's T test was found as P<0.001. Kaiser-Meyer Olkin (KMO) value was 0.90 and Bartlett's test of sphericity was P<0.01. The goodness of fit values determined as a result of CFA are as follows: CMIN/df: 1.47; GFI: 0.93; CFI: 0.95; RMSEA: 0.04; AGFI: 0.91 and IFI: 0.95. Inventory total score was found to be statistically significantly higher in women, those with higher education, those with better income and those without children (P<0.05). Conclusions: The inventory, consisting of 3 dimensions and 20 questions, was found suitable for use in the Turkishspeaking community. The validity and reliability of the inventory were determined after factor analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The food industry in Turkey has undergone significant changes in recent years, including the increased use of automation and the adoption of standardized production processes. These changes have had a profound impact on the skills required of those labour in the food industry and have led to the de-skilling of the labour force. De-skilling may be beneficial for firms in the short run, but will adversely affect the long-term competitiveness of the industry and limit opportunities for labour. Potential policy interventions are needed to mitigate the negative effects of de-skilling and to promote a more skilled labour force in the food industry in Turkey. In essence, this study examines the challenges and consequences of deskilling in the food industry in Turkey, including its effects on employment, wages and labour autonomy. This paper essentially examines the challenges and consequences of de-skilling in the food industry in Turkey, including its effects on employment, wages and labour autonomy. Accordingly, as in many other areas, de-skilling affects the basic dynamics of workers in the food industry, such as income, employment, unemployment and indebtedness. In this context, the challenges and consequences of the deskilling of the labour force in the food industry will be discussed based on the data obtained from fieldwork in chain food firms operating in Bolu. Accessibility to healthcare services is a crucial determinant for a healthy life. Unmet healthcare needs refer to the situation where an individual, despite having a medical examination or treatment requirement in the past 12 months, could not access a doctor. This study aims to draw attention to the determinants of unmet healthcare needs among young people, emphasizing the prioritization of policies in this area. Weighted least-squares method was used to analyze the data from TURKSTAT-SILC for the period of 2006–2016. According to the findings, married individuals had a higher rate of unmet healthcare needs compared to single individuals. Furthermore, household headship and especially having a baby were identified as factors leading to less fulfillment of healthcare needs. Unmet healthcare needs were found to be inversely proportional to income and general health status, while they were directly proportional to household and environmental problems. These observations indicate the factors that policymakers should consider in identifying and addressing the unmet healthcare needs of young people. Marital status, parenthood, income inequality, general health status, and environmental factors are crucial aspects to be taken into account in improving healthcare services and enhancing accessibility for young individuals. BUSINESS enterprises , *INVESTORS , *BUSINESS losses , *STOCKS (Finance) , *INCOME , *WEED competition , *CONSUMER price indexes - Abstract
Individuals who own shares of companies traded on the stock exchange become partners of the companies they invest in. The situation also brings to light certain issues for shareholders in terms of their religious obligations, in addition to the advantages of receiving a share of the company's earnings as profit and the risks of being affected by the company's losses. One of the issues that has come up in this context is the possibility that the income from the company one has become a partner in may contain prohibited elements from a fiqh perspective. Especially the financial needs that arise as a result of market conditions, the need to protect savings against inflation, legal obligations, and similar factors can affect companies' possession of income that is considered prohibited according to fiqh. In such cases, the issue of purifying prohibited income becomes even more important for investors. Since shareholders are partners in the companies they invest in, the company's income naturally becomes the income of the shareholders in proportion to their shares. From the perspective of Islamic law, it is a general rule that a Muslim individual's wealth should not include income that is considered prohibited from a fiqh perspective. However, as is the case in a partnership relationship, it is likely that prohibited income may arise as a result of the management of others or the imposition of certain conditions. It is generally accepted that if such income arises, it should be purified by allocating it to certain aspects. This article examines the reasons why prohibited income may arise in companies that one invests in, how it can be identified, what method investors can use to purify it, and which aspects the purification amount can be allocated to, aiming to provide a comprehensive fiqh perspective on the purification of shares. FINANCIAL crises , *ADJUSTABLE rate mortgages , *INVESTORS , *GREAT Depression, 1929-1939 , *INCOME - Abstract
Prophet (pbuh) brought humanity with the required teachings in all fields of life. Among these teachings are a number of economic principles with the goal of preventing unjustified earnings. Proving the actuality and appropriateness of these prophetic guidances these are as important as their determination. This is because in today’s world the economic and financial life has been quite developed. In this study we want to examine the chain of events that gained momentum in the United States of America in 2008 and made its impact felt not only in the USA but also all over the world in the following years, and which is described by economists as the greatest financial crisis and economic recession that occurred after the Great Depression in 1929 in order to demonstrate the current value of prophetic teachings in the economic field. In our examination the analyses and evaluations of the American economists related to the crisis were taken into consideration. This way, the consequences caused by the violation of the economic orders in the sunnah will be seen more convincingly and effectively. The foundations of the aforementioned financial crisis were laid by the borrowing of consumers in a way that would strain their income. Mortgages given to people who do not have sufficient income began not to be paid due to the rise in interest rates. Both in the issuance of adjustable rate mortgages and in derivative debt securities based on these mortgages there were practices that deceived investors on one hand and extreme uncertainty in terms of price and risk on the other hand. In our opinion, a careful analysis of this important case reveals quite clearly the current importance and value of the economic teachings of Islam. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POOR people , *INCOME distribution , *INCOME , *INCOME inequality , *MINIMUM wage , *POVERTY - Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the flexibility applications and the unequal distribution and the low income levels low income groups get by exhibiting the income distribution that occurs among the ones that join the labour market. To that end, the earnings of paid employees, casual worker, selfemployed and employer are examined by using the micro data of the TURKSAT Household Income and Living Conditions Survey-2019. The differences among the income groups are presented by calculating the distribution among the income groups in accordance with the education level, job status, employment situation and occupational group and the shares they get from the income as per 10% percentile of the ones within employment. The findings indicate that the income difference between the lowest and the highest is 16,7 times and the average income of the low income group is in a level less than the minimum wage but that nevertheless mostly the high income groups benefit from the transfer incomes. It is inferred that flexible and/or informal labour is prevalent in the lowest income group that is under the risk of poverty due to the low level of welfare they have. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INCOME , *CONSUMPTION (Economics) , *QUANTILE regression , *SATISFACTION , *INCOME distribution - Abstract
Household consumption expenditures are accepted as one of the most important welfare indicators of a society or country today. For this reason, determining factors, affecting household consumption expenditures are among the main topics that attract the attention of researchers. One of the most important factors determining the formation of consumption demand is income. In this context, household income satisfaction can be considered an important indicator of fair income distribution. It is therefore aimed to reveal the indicators and their effect of household expenditures on household income satisfaction, which is a subjective concept. The quantile regression method is used in the analysis. The data set consists of grouped household consumption expenditures obtained by the Household Budget Surveys for the period 2003-2019 published by the Turkish Statistical Institute. As a result, all variables, except education services contribute to household income satisfaction in a similar and monotonous pattern in all quantiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JUSTICE , *ACCOUNTANTS , *INCOME , *RELATIVITY , *IDEALISM , *IDEOLOGY , *PROFESSIONAL employees , *SOCIAL status - Abstract
Personal attitudes, beliefs, behaviours, cultural characteristics, social status, income levels, justice, and ethical perception of professional accountants play an essential role in the reliability of financial and non-financial information. In this context, the aim of this study is to measure the ethical ideology and justice approaches of professional accountants operating in Istanbul within the framework of idealism and relativism dimensions. While fulfilling this purpose, the ethical status scale developed by Forsyth (1980) was used. The findings of the study showed that the levels of idealism and low levels of relativism of the accountants participating in the research were high. The fact that relativism is low and idealism is high indicates that professional accountants are individuals who avoidbehas that will harm others and care about the welfare of other individuals. This situation also provides evidence that professional accountants are sensitive to ethical behaviors and tend to avoid unethical behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HOUSING policy , *LOW-income housing , *INCOME , *HOME prices , *STAKEHOLDER analysis , *HOUSING discrimination - Abstract
The decrease in the number of affordable housing is seen as a major problem in Atlanta. Affordable housing is inadequate, especially for low-income households, and crime, weak market power, and racial segregation arise as a consequence of supply shortfall. This study primarily examines housing policies and legal regulations that form the basis of policies within the framework of different variables such as demographic data, household income, and housing prices. As a result of faceto-face meetings with the officials of the institutions, stakeholder engagement processes are researched and their roles are discussed. As a result of the evaluation of the project in terms of covering the cost of the project and stakeholder engagement, it is emphasized that there is a positive relationship between stronger housing policies and accessible housing for low-income households. POOR people , *INCOME inequality , *REST periods , *INCOME , *MONEY supply , *PRICE inflation , *FOREIGN exchange rates - Abstract
In this study, the two main dynamics of inflation, defined as demand-pull and cost-push inflation, are analyzed for the Turkish economy. Based on the fact that this basic dynamic in inflation may vary, the empirical structure of the study was created by taking into account the structural break in inflation. According to the empirical findings, it was concluded that the dynamics of inflation changed with the structural break in inflation. In terms of the Turkish economy, while demand-pull inflation was observed in the pre-structural break period when the domestic currency was appreciated. Cost-push inflation was more effective in the post-structural break period when the domestic currency was relatively depreciated due to the pass-through effect. Empirical findings show that after the structural break in inflation, a structural process was experienced in the Turkish economy in which money supply did not cause inflation. As it is known, the transfer of wealth from the lower income group to the higher income group accelerates during periods of high inflation. The insufficiency of effective demand, which decreases with the deepening of income inequality, also provides evidence for the fact that the money supply is not inflationary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adolescence is a critical period for athletes to acquire good physical habits and healthy lifestyle behaviors. This study, which aimed to examine the healthy lifestyle behaviors of adolescent athletes with respect to certain variables, employed the descriptive survey model, a quantitative research method. The study population encompassed adolescent athletes in Van, Turkey, while the sample was comprised of 400 athletes (221 men and 179 women) with an average age of 15.92±1.17 years, who participated voluntarily. For data collection, a demographic information form consisting of 10 questions created by the researcher, and the "Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale-II (HLBS)" developed by Walker et al. (1996) and adapted into Turkish by Bahar et al. (2008), containing 52 items with 6 factors, were used. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Since the data exhibited normal distribution, parametric tests including the independent samples T-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the Tukey post hoc test for intra-group differences, were performed. According to our findings, no significant differences existed in the scale total and factors scores for the variables of club license and type of sport (p>.05). Significant differences were observed for certain factors with respect to the variables of age, gender, grade, athletic history, frequency of athletic activity, family income, and maternal and paternal educational levels (p<.05). There were also significant differences in the variables of age, gender, grade, and frequency of athletic activity in the HLBS scale total scores (p<.05). Thus, the healthy lifestyle behaviors of adolescent athletes were found to differ in terms of certain variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
