Earthquakes are natural hazards that can lead to adverse outcomes. However, it is possible to prevent such hazards from turning into disasters through efficient disaster risk management. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to develop a measurement tool based on the Health Belief Model (HBM). We conducted item analysis and exploratory factor analysis in the first stage of the study, followed by confirmatory factor analysis in the second stage. In the two stages, the sample sizes were 176 and 577, respectively. In the first stage, we removed three items from the scale. The analyses revealed that the scale, comprising five factors and 11 items, explained 72% of the total variance. We named the factors perceived threat, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and health motivation. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency of the total scale was .70. The confirmatory factor analysis findings showed that χ2/df and RMSEA were within the acceptable fit range, while SRMR, CFI, GFI, and AGFI were within the good fit range. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the factor structure obtained from the exploratory factor analysis. In summary, the present study demonstrates that the Beliefs About Earthquake Preparedness Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
