Successful institutions of the 21st century will be those that dominate knowledge. It is necessary for organizations to dominate information, maintain assets and gain competitive advantage. For this reason, the concept of intellectual capital is gaining more and more importance. Intellectual capital not only enables institutions to gain competitive advantage, but also expresses the information that institutions transform into value. On the other hand, in order to manage this information, it differs from the classical leadership approach and the need for strategic leadership is increasing. This work; It aims to determine whether strategic leadership has an effect on intellectual capital, and if there is, to determine the size and direction of the effect. In order to achieve this, employees in the management team, who received postgraduate education, were selected to determine the effect of strategic leadership on intellectual capital. After this election, the literature was searched for the survey to be created to determine the impact, the questions on Intellectual Capital were from Yıldız, S. (2011)'s study titled "The Effect of Intellectual Capital on Business Performance: A Research in the Banking Sector", and questions on Strategic Leadership were "John Pisapia". Strategic Leadership Scale (Kılınçkaya, 2013) developed by “Bekir Kılınçkaya” and adapted by “Bekir Kılınçkaya” was formed from the questions that Kılınçkaya created as a result of his research in the literature. The prepared questionnaire was applied to 107 managers who received postgraduate education working in factories located in the industrial zone in Istanbul. Various analyzes such as correlation and regression analysis were performed with the SPSS program on the results obtained from the questionnaire., 21. yüzyılın başarılı kurumları, bilgiye hükmeden kurumlar olacaktır.

EMPLOYEE attitudes , *CYNICISM , *COLLEGE teachers , *STATE universities & colleges , *SEMI-structured interviews , *LITERATURE reviews - Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to identify and compare the cynicism perceptions of academics working in state and foundation universities. As it is known, cynicism refers to the negative attitudes of employees towards the organization they work for. In this context, firstly, international and national literature was reviewed. After the literature review on cynicism, semi-structured interview forms were created based on previous studies in the literature to measure the cynicism perceptions of academics working in state and foundation universities. First of all, as a pilot study, interviews were conducted with two academicians working in a state and a foundation university, and the form was finalized according to the feedback received after the interviews. Then, in-depth interviews were conducted on a semi-structured form with a total of ten academics, including five academics working at different state universities and different cities in Turkey, and five academics working at different foundation universities in Istanbul. Attention was paid to the fact that the interviewed academicians had more than one year of working experience. The interviews were analyzed with the content analysis method and the data were revealed by the axis coding method. Afterwards, the cynicism perception of the participants was measured over the three dimensions of organizational cynicism in the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of primary school students towards classroom teachers in order to gain direction and direction gains. The research was conducted with a qualitative research model. The study group consists of 35 classroom teachers working in Kastamonu province. The data was collected in a structured open-ended interview form. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the research, it is seen that teachers define the concept of direction. It was determined that the teachers dealt with the most topics related to direction and direction finding in social studies courses; they used the most compass in their direction finding techniques; and the students used the sun. Teachers stated that they applied to the map with the most technological tools in the direction teaching; that the subject is intangible and the concepts of direction are confused by the students at the beginning of the obstacles encountered in gaining the gains related to direction and direction finding. In line with the results, suggestions such as carrying out activities in which students are active, linking direction finding activities with other courses and daily life, and increasing teacher competencies related to finding direction were included., Araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul öğrencilerine yön ve yön bulma ile ilgili kazanımların kazandırılmasına yönelik sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşlerini tespit etmektir.

HBV DNA ,HCV RNA ,external quality control ,viral load - Abstract
MOTAKK, as a national external quality control program has been launched to evaluate the molecular detection of viral infections including HBV DNA and HCV RNA in molecular microbiology diagnostic laboratories in Turkey. This program is prepared in compliance with ISO 17043:2010 (Conformity assessment general requirements for proficiency testing) standards, and aims to take the place of external quality control programs from abroad, contributing to standardization and accuracy of molecular diagnostic tests in our country. The aim of this study was to evaluate 2015 and 2016 results of the MOTAKK External Quality Control Program for HBV DNA and HCV RNA viral load. The calls were announced on the web page of MOTAKK (www.motakk.org). The quality control samples were sent to participating laboratories in 2015 and 2016. Main stocks were prepared from patients with chronic hepatitis B and C who had viral load detection with reference methods according to WHO reference materials for viral load studies to improve quality control sera. From these main stocks, samples with different viral loads were prepared from dilutions of plasma with HBV, HCV, HAV, HIV, Parvovirus B19 and CMV negative serologic markers. Quality control samples were sent to the participating laboratories along with the negative samples in the cold chain. The laboratories accomplished the related tests within 2-3 weeks and entered their results on the MOTAKK web page. These results were analysed according to ISO 13528 (Statistical methods for use in proficiency testing by interlaboratory comparison) and scoring reports were created by a software developed by MOTAKK and sent to participating labs. Each laboratory evaluated their own results in comparison with the other laboratory results, reassessed the tests via observing the distance from the mean result and the reference values. The number of laboratories participating in the HBV DNA and HCV RNA external quality control program was 70-73 in 2015-2016. Participants were able to comply with the program tools, registering, entering results and receiving the results reports problem. In HBV panel, 72.6-89.1% and 84.7-90.3% of the participant laboratories were in 1 standard deviation (SD) in 2015-2016, respectively. In HCV panel, 70.8-89.1% and 84.7-90.3% of the participant laboratories were in 1 SD in 2015-2016, respectively. A national external quality control program for HBV DNA and HCV RNA in Turkey has been prepared for the first time with this project and implemented successfully. All the data provided in the MOTAKK external quality control program final report, compensate all the data provided by the quality control program final reports from abroad; additionally, the report allows comparison of used technologies and commercial products.

Bu araştırmada, İnsan Hakları Yurttaşlık ve Demokrasi [İHYD] dersinin 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin nasıl ifade ettiğine, insan haklarına, çocuk haklarına, derste verilmesi gereken konulara ve kavramlara, değerlere dair görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla görüşlerini ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışma deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden kolay ulaşılabilirlik durum örneklemesi yöntemiyle seçilen Kastamonu iline bağlı merkez köy ilköğretim okulunda öğrenim görmekte olan on sekiz dördüncü sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır.

Çalışmamızın amacı çocukluk yaş grubunda kolestatik hepatit A enfeksiyonunun klinik seyrini ve prognozunu değerlendirmektir. Çocuklarda kolestatik tip hepatit A enfeksiyonu nadir görülen benign bir hastalık formudur. Hepatit A enfeksiyonunun bu nadir formunun bilinmesi, obstrüktif sanlıktan şüphe edilen hastalarda gereksiz invaziv işlemlerin uygulanmasını engelleyebilir., Cholestatic Hepatitis A Infection During ChildhoodThe aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical evolution and prognosis of cholestatic hepatitis A during childhood. A retrospective study of 33 children hospitalized for acute hepatitis A infection between June 1998 and May 2002 were studied. Cholestatic hepatitis was defined by a direct bilirubin higher than 50% of the total bilirubin and serum bilirubin levels greater than 10 mg/dL during at least 4 weeks. Five cases were identified, which represents 15.2% of all hospitalized hepatitis A cases. One of the five cases had a combination of the two variants of acute viral hepatitis A, the relapsing and cholestatic forms. Physical findings include prolonged jaundice, pruritis and hepatomegally. Cholestatic symptomatology was predominant in all cases with bilirubin values ranging from 24 to 45 mg/dL. Prolonged prothrombin times, corrected with vitamin K, were seen in three of these patients. Four patients were treated with ursodeoxycholic acid, one patient with ursodeoxycholic acid plus short-term prednisone therapy. All patients recovered completely without sequelae. Cholestatic, hepatitis is an infrequent and benign form of acute hepatitis A in childhood. Knowledge of this unusual manifestation of hepatitis A may help avoid potentially invasive procedures involved in the evaluation of suspected obstructive jaundice.

Ceftriaxone is a widely used third generation cephalosporin. Transient gallbladder stone or sludge formation called pseudolithiasis. We planned a pilot study, to evaluate the incidence of gallbladder pseudolithiasis in children treated with Ceftriaxone as most of the Ceftriaxone induced pseudolithiasis cases are asymptomatic. In this study 13 children treated with Ceftriaxone (100 mg/kg/day) for pneumonia and meningitis were examined. Each study patient had ultrasound examinations of gallbladder at the beginning and tenth day of the Ceftriaxone treatment. If any abnormality was detected, scanning was repeated weekly after the end of the ceftriaxone treatment. All of the initial ultrasonographic examinations were normal. Pseudolithiasis was detected in four (%31) of the patients at the tenth day of ceftriaxone therapy, 3 had gallstones and 1 had gallstone together with sludge. Although all patients were asymptomatic, ceftriaxone treatment was discontinued. Pseudolithiasis completely resolved in 22-45 days after the end of the treatment. As a result pseudolithiasis is an expected complication of ceftriaxone treatment, it resolves spontaneously after the treatment.

- Abstract
Objective: There is no clear consensus regarding the definition of low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) or the follow-up of this patient group. Given this lack of a clinical definition, the aim of this study was to use a LCOS score (LCOSs) similar to the low cardiac output score previously presented in the literature and evaluate the relationship between a high LCOSs and poor clinical outcome., Methods: A total of 54 patients were prospectively evaluated after cardiac surgery. The LCOSs was used to evaluate the deve-lopment of low cardiac output. Each parameter was scored as 1 point. The score was calculated every hour for 24 hours postoperatively and the highest score was recorded as the peak score (pLOCSs). The LOCSs at the time of admission to the pediatric intensive care unit, at the 4th, 8th, and 16th hour were recorded and a cumulative score (cLOCSs) score was calculated., Results: The mean age of the patients was 49.40±53.15 months and 24.07% had LOCS. In the group with LCOS, the cLOCSs, vasoactive-ınotropic score (VIS), lactate mean, aortic clamp time, and the total cardiopulmonary bypass time were significantly higher. In this study, a significant and positive correlation was found between the cLOCSs and pLOCSs and the length of hospital stay, length of stay in the pediatric intensive care unit, VIS, lactate mean, and aortic clamp duration., Conclusion: The objective of this study was to draw attention to the potential use of a common language in the care of critical pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery with a previously defined scoring method that includes parameters indicating poor perfusion in the patient.

- Abstract
Background: The present study aimed to investigate the predictive importance of cut-off levels of preoperative WBC, neutrophil and CRP concentrations in operated appendicitis patients., Methods: Patients operated for acute appendicitis between January 2008 and November 2010 were retrospectively screened. Patients were divided into three groups according to postoperative histopathology. Group I: normal appendix, Group II: Uncomplicated appendicitis, Group III: complicated appendicitis. ROC curves are intended for positive distinguishing pathological laboratory measurements. Cut-off values were determined and distinguishing performances were assessed., Results: 175 of the 320 patients were males (54.7%) and 145 were females (45.3%). Average age was 35.95±14.75. While cut-off value for WBC was 12.080 and it was found significant in distinguishing total appandisitis (group II+group III) from normal appendixes and distinguishing group II from group I (p<0.001), it was determined that it was not significant in distinguishing group II from group III (p=0.768). While cut-off value for neutrophil was 73% and it was significant in distinguishing group II+group III from group I and group II from group I (p<0.001), it was detected that it was not significant in distinguishing group II from group III (p=0.681). While cut-off value for CRP was 45.98, it was not found significant in distinguishing group II+group III from group I and group II from group I; however it was significant in distinguishing group II from group III (p<0.001). When all measurements were evaluated together, it was detected that the increase in only the neutrophil percentage rised the non-complicated acute appendisitis (OR: 1.082; p<0.001), and the increase in both neutrophiles and CRP resulted in a rise in the risk of complication (OR: neutrophil=1.066; p=0.009- CRP=1.005; p=0.013)., Discussion: The cut-off value of labaratuary tests may help determine the diagnosis and treatment. Especially, cut-off value of CRP may be helpful to determine the method of incision during the operation as conventional appendectomy or laparoscopic appendectomy.

- Abstract
The frequency of fungal infections have increased recently in parallel to prolonged survival of patients with chronical infections, common use of the broad-spectrum antibiotics and cytotoxic drugs and surgical interventions. Fungi such as Trichosporon, Fusarium and Geotrichum that were previously evaluated as contaminant/colonization, become important causes of morbidity and mortality especially in neutropenic patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of virulence factors such as acid proteinase, phospholipase, esterase, coagulase and hemolytic activity among Trichosporon species. A total of 40 Trichosporon strains, of them 24 (60%) were T.asahii, 6 (15%) were T.inkin and 10 (25%) were the other species (one of each of T.aquatile, T.asteroides, T.coremiiforme, T.cutaneum, T.dermatis, T.faecale, T.japonicum, T.montevideense, T.mucoides, T.ovoides) were included in the study. Identification of the isolates was performed according to microscopic morphology (blastospores, arthrospores, pseudohyphae and true hyphae) on corn meal agar media, and carbohydrate assimilation patterns (API ID32C; bioMérieux, France). Secretory acid proteinase, phospholipase and esterase activities of the strains were evaluated by 1% bovine serum albumin containing agar, by egg yolk containing solid medium, and by Tween 80 containing solid medium, respectively. Hemolytic activity of the isolates were evaluated by 5-10% sheep blood Sabouraud dextrose agar. Coagulase enzyme activity was determined by using human and rabbit plasma. In our study, all of the 40 Trichosporon spp. strains were found negative in terms of acid proteinase and phospholipase enzyme activity, however all were positive for esterase enzyme activity. Hemolytic enzyme activity were identified in a total of 15 (37.5%) strains, being "+++" in three strains (2 T.asahii, 1 T.japonicum), and "++" in 12 isolates (9 T.asahii, 1 T.inkin, 1 T.asteroides, 1 T.mentevideense). Although 11 of those 15 positive strains were T.asahii, there was no statistical difference between the species in terms of hemolytic enzyme activity (p> 0.05). Coagulase enzyme activity was detected in 5% (2/40; 1 T.asahii, 1 T.inkin) of the strains with human plasma and in 27.5% (11/40; 9 T.asahii, 1 T.inkin, 1 T.montevideense) with rabbit plasma. In conclusion, our data indicated that esterase, coagulase and hemolytic activities detected in Trichosporon spp. might play role in the pathogenesis of Trichosporon infections, however, further large-scaled clinical and mycological studies are needed to prove this relation.

- Abstract
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of depression and to evaluate the association of sociodemographic factors, as well as aspects of the work environment, with depression among resident doctors working in a training hospital in Istanbul., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a teaching hospital which has 332 residents in Istanbul. The required sample size was determined to be 207. The study population was stratified proportionally according to hospital departments and a random sampling method was used. Data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic variables, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MJSQ). The associations were studied through univariate and multivariate analyses., Findings: The study included 156 residents who agreed to participate (response rate: 75.3%). The prevalence rate of probable depression was 16.0% (95% CI: 10.7-22.7). In the multivariate analysis, the rate of depression was significantly higher among women compared to men (OR: 5.16, 95% CI: 1.51-17.68, p<0.01). Age, marital status, hospital department, duration of residency, number of night shifts, and duration of exposure to daylight in the work environment were not associated with depression. Among the participants, 90.4% did not want to get a feedback concerning their BDI scores. A negative correlation was determined between depression and job satisfaction scores., Conclusion: Among resident doctors, women in particular should be evaluated as an important at-risk group for depression. Prevention and control programs that also include components for reducing stigma should be implemented.
