Objective: Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoon that infects approximately one-third of the human population. The parasite could transmit from mother to fetus in cases of acute infection during pregnancy and cause complications in the fetus. The bibliometric analysis is a popular research area that evaluates all the studies indexed in particular databases on a subject. Methods: This article puts forth bibliometric review of the literature on maternal and congenital toxoplasmosis research indexed in the Web of Science database between 1945 and 2024. VOS viewer, Web of Science and MS Office Excel 17 programs were used in the study. Results: The results of the search showed 1476 publications. The countries that most contributed to the literature were France (n=306, 20.73%), the USA (n=229, 15.52%), and Brazil (n=146, 9.89%). The most cited country was also France (n=10271, 35.52%), followed by the USA (n=9113, 31.51%), and England (n=2611, 9.03%). The top three countries by number of citations per document were Denmark (44.88), the USA (39.79) and France (33.57). The five departments with the most publications are Pediatrics (20.26%), General Internal Medicine (18.16%), Infectious Diseases (16.8%), Obstetrics (14.57%), and Immunology (11.86%). Wallon M. (n=57), Peyron F. (n=49), Thulliez P. (n=36) and Vilena I. (n=36) were the leading authors in terms of contribution to the literature. The five most published journals were Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal (3.66%), Journal of Clinical Microbiology (2.78%), Lancet (2.3%), Presse Medicale (1.76%), and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1.63%). Conclusion: France is one of the countries that pays the most attention to congenital toxoplasmosis and compatible with this, in our study, the country with the highest number of studies on congenital toxoplasmosis was France. It is thought that drawing more attention to this issue and conducting more studies in countries where the disease is common might yield successful results, as in France.

Aim:There are still concerns about its benefits and possible risks in pediatric patients, as well as the dosage regimen, frequency, and form of tranexamic acid. In this study, the effects of different doses of tranexamic acid used in pediatric congenital heart surgery were investigated.Methods:The study was conducted between August 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021, by screening patient files and hospital data systems. Accordingly, patients in Group TXA-10 and Group TXA-25 were continuously administered 10 mg/kg/hour and 25 mg/kg/ hour tranexamic acid infusions, respectively, from the induction of anesthesia until their transfer to the intensive care unit. The groups were compared in terms of the amount of bleeding, blood products used, and postoperative complications.Results:Thirty-five patients were included in Group TXA-10, and 36 patients were included in Group TXA-25. There was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of gender, weight, height, or presence of cyanotic heart disease. The median post-pump activated clotting time in Group TXA-10 was significantly longer than in Group TXA-25 (153 vs. 141.5 seconds, p=0.003). There was no significant difference between the groups also in terms of the amount of bleeding; the median erythrocyte transfusion amount was 50 ml in both groups. The amount of fresh frozen plasma and platelets that needed to be transfused in Group TXA-10 was higher than in Group TXA-25, albeit not significantly. There was no difference between the groups in terms of postoperative complication rates.Conclusion:Tranexamic acid can be safely and effectively used in pediatric heart surgery cases with an infusion rate of 10 mg/kg/hour.

Aim: Patent foramen ovale is a common congenital heart disease in adulthood. Due to right-to-left shunts and paradoxical emboli in its pathophysiology, it causes clinical conditions related to many systems, especially the brain. Tinnitus is a common symptom of the hearing and balance system. In our study, which we planned as a survey study, we aimed to investigate the frequency of tinnitus in PFO patients and to shed light on the studies to be done on this subject. Method: Thirty individuals aged 18-60 years who were diagnosed with definitive isolated PFO in our cardiology outpatient clinic were included in the study after they were informed and filled in the Informed Consent Form. Thirty healthy individuals were included in the control group. Tinnitus grade index and tinnitus handicap questionnaire (tinnitus disability questionnaire) were applied to the participants in our Ear Nose and Throat clinic for the evaluation of tinnitus. The analysis of the data obtained in the study was performed with SPSS 24.0. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age and gender. Tinnitus handicap index and tinnitus degree index data were found to be statistically significantly higher in the PFO group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The data obtained in our study show that there may be a relationship between PFO and tinnitus. It supported that PFO could be assumed among the potential causes of tinnitus. Sakrokoksigeal teratomlar, her üç germ tabakasından doku içeren sakrokoksigeal bölgeden ortaya çıkan tümörlerdir. Sakrokoksigeal teratom (SKT), artan yaşla birlikte malign transformasyonu olan 40.000 canlı doğumda bir insidansı olan yenidoğanları, bebekleri ve çocukları etkileyen nispeten nadir bir tümördür. Kadınlarda erkeklerden dört kat daha sık görülür. Bu olgu çalışması ile birlikte SKT histopatolojik değerlendirme ve derecelenmesi değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. İmmatür ve malign transformasyon içeren patolojik spesmen incelemeleri dikkatlice yapılmalıdır.

Aim: In this study,the predictive value of electrocardiography(ECG) axis measurements at diagnosis of congenital heart diseases(CHD) were evaluated in children.Materials and Methods: The children between 1 month and 16 years of age without a known history of CHD who applied to pediatric cardiology outpatient clinic were included in the study.Pathology at physical examination,P,QRS,T axis and QRS-T angle values and the diagnosis of a CHD at echocardiography were evaluated.Results were evaluated statistically.Results: Two hundred and sixty cases were evaluated during the study period.Median age was 24 months(1-160months).The 45% of the patients were evaluated as normal at cardiovascular system examination.Murmur was present in 40% of the patients and other pathologic findings additionally to the murmur were found in another 15% of the patients.ECG evaluations revealed abnormal P axis in 5 patients,left axis deviation in 23 patients,right axis deviation in 29 patients, superior axis in 3 patients,abnormal T axis in 18 patients and pathologic QRS-T angle in 32 patients.Echocardiographic stuies revealed CHD at 68 patients.The pathology at physical examination did not effect the ECG axis values and the abnormal changes at QRS-T angle(p>0.05)but signicantly increasing the frequency of CHD diagnosis at echocardiography(p

Cardiac physiologic changes during pregnancy may cause risky delivery in patients with congenital cardiac anomalies. In this case, we present the anesthesia management during emergency cesarean section in a pregnant woman with c-TGA who may develop cardiac tamponade and sudden death risk due to pericardial effusion. Objective: In this study, the effect of open heart surgery on triiodothyronine (T3) functions was investigated in patients undergoing congenital cardiac surgery. Methods: 30 patients who underwent elective congenital cardiac surgery were prospectively enrolled in the study. Preoperatively (T0), during cardiopulmonary bypass (T1), postoperative 0th hour (T2), postoperative 1st day (T3), 2nd day (T4), 3rd day (T5) and 8 days (T6), free T3, thyroxine (T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) values, intubation time, intensive care and hospital stay were recorded. Results: According to T0 time T3 levels decreased statistically significantly in T2, T3, T4 and T5 periods, TSH levels decreased in T2, T3 and T4 while T4 levels were found to be statistically significantly lower at T2 and T3 periods than T1 time.(p <0.05). There was a negative correlation between T3 levels and the duration of intubation and hospital stay at the change in T5 time compared to T0 time. Conclusion: It was found that T3 levels decreased after congenital cardiac surgery, and triiodothyronine levels negatively affected the duration of intubation and hospital stay. ÖzAmaç:Böbrek ve üriner sistemin doğumsal anomalileri (BÜSDA) tanımı, konjenital yapısal anomaliler kullanılan bir terimdir. Prenatal ultrasonografinin yaygın kullanıma girmesiyle BÜSDA, çocuk nefroloji ve üroloji vizitlerinin önemli bir bölümünü oluşturmaktadır. Bu retrospektif çalışmada, BÜSDA tanısı ile takip edilen hastaların analizi ve bu hastalardaki renal hasar varlığı araştırılmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Kliniğimizde 2012-2018 yılları arasında BÜSDA tanısı ile takip edilen hastaların dosyaları retrospektif olarak incelendi. Birden fazla anomalisi olanlar (sendromik olgular vb.) çalışma dışı bırakıldı. Dosyalardan antenatal tanı varlığı, yaş, cinsiyet, görüntüleme ve sintigrafi sonuçları kaydedildi. Ultrasonografi ile takip edilen hastalarda gerektiğinde işeme sistoüretrografisi (İSUG) ve dimerkaptosüksinik asit (DMSA) sintigrafisi kullanıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmaya 572 erkek (%71) ve 234 kız (%29) olmak üzere toplam 806 hasta dahil edildi. Ortanca yaş 2 ay ve ortanca takip süresi 16 ay olarak bulundu. Hastaların 503’ünde (%62.4) antenatal tanı mevcuttu ve 29 hastada (%3.6) prematür doğum öyküsü mevcuttu. Üst üriner sistemde en sık görülen anomaliler sırasıyla izole hidronefroz (%58.2), ektopik böbrek (%7.8) ve at nalı böbrek (%6.7) idi. Alt üriner sistemde ise konjenital vezikoüreteral reflü (%10.9) ve megaüreterdi (%1.6). Hastalardan 75 olguda (%9.3) renal skar, 53 olguda ise (%6.6) renal hipodisplazi saptandı.Tartışma: BÜSDA’nın prenatal tanısı renal fonksiyon kaybına neden olabilecek problemlerin erken dönemde tanınması şanısını artırmaktadır. Buna rağmen hastaların ¼’ünden fazlası uzun dönemde tanı almadan kalmaktadır. BÜSDA’lı çocuklar için, uygun tanı ve tedavi ile renal hasarın ilerlemesini önlenmesi gereklidir.

Congenital deficiency of lower lateral cartilages is rarely observed. Moreover, congenital lack of medial and/or lateral crus is extremely rare. Here, a case having nasal tip asymmetry with lack of nasal tip support, hence, the atrophy of medial crus is presented. Reconstruction of the medial crus was appropriately established with a septal cartilage graft. Supportive grafts were also used to enforce the tip and columella. The patient was extremely satisfied from the surgery. The practitioners must be aware of the deformities and deficiencies of the nasal cartilages as well as suitable reconstructions.

Objective: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is multidisciplinary disorder that should be diagnosed and treated by specialized centers. Progress in the field of PH diagnosis has led to new classifications of the disease. The aim of this study was to determine the etiological properties of PH diagnosed at one center. Methods: A retrospective search of the database of the right heart catheterization laboratory was conducted. All of the patients who underwent right heart catheterization (RHC) and were diagnosed with PH were included in the study and grouped according to etiology. Results: A total of 379 patients with PH (23 female; 53.2+-14.7 years) were included in the current research. There were 82 patients classified as having pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The leading cause among the PAH subgroups was congenital heart disease, and valve disease were found to be most the common reason for postcapillary PH. Aim: Lower respiratory tract infections are an important reason for mortality and morbidity in children with congenital heart disease. This study aimed to evaluate 50 children who had congenital heart disease and were hospitalized with lower respiratory tract infection in the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Pediatrics Hospital. Materials and Methods: Fifty pediatric patients were taken into the study. Their clinical symptoms, acute phase reactants, chest X-rays, bacterial culture of transtracheal aspirate, respiratory virus panel (with multiplex polimerase chain reaction) from nasopharyngeal swab were examined. The groups were evaluated in terms of age, gender, enviromental smoke exposure, living with school-aged siblings, Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) prophylaxis, hospitalization time, causative pathogen, additional risk factors. Results: Of the 50 cases, 12 (24%) were cyanotic, 38 (76%) were acyanotic. There were 26 boys and 24 girls. The most common diagnosis in the acyanotic group was hemodynamically significant VSD (isolated or with other diagnoses) with 20 cases. The average age of the cyanotic group was 23.88±28.81, and the acyanotic group was 12.25±15.45 months old. Hospitalizations most frequently occured in winter. The most frequent viral agent was RSV, which was not seen in the cyanotic group. All of the RSV infected patients were under 12 months old. In 16.7% of cyanotic and 52.6% of acyanotic patients there were extra risk factors such as immune deficiency, Down syndrome, prematurity, Di George syndrome, cerebral palsy, postoperative early period. Three cases lost their lives due to severe respiratory failure. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups when compared for demografic variables, risk factors, causative pathogens, hospitalization times. Conclusion: Lower respiratory tract infections and especifically RSV pneumonia are important causes of mortality and morbidity in patients diagnosed with congenital heart disease. To prevent risk factors, more studies must be done.

Congenital isolated anomalies of nasal cartilages are very rare and the etiology is still not fully understood. Although congenital defects of the lower lateral cartilage are usually associated with functional or major cosmetic problems, they may also occasionally be presented as asymptomatic and incidental. Although their superiority to each other is not well known, several methods have previously been described for reconstruction of the defect with autologous cartilage grafts or allogenic grafts. With proper intraoperative planning, satisfactory results can be achieved in rhinoplasty operation in such cases. In this article we aimed to present a case of congenital unilateral isolated total lower lateral cartilage absence in a patient without any functional complaints and the reconstruction of it with autogenous cartilage graft. Aim: Our aim in this study was to determine the current location of toxoplasma screening in prenatal follow-up by presenting seroprevalence in pregnant women who applied for prenatal follow-up and applied serological tests for toxoplasma. Material and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between the ages of 15-49 and pregnant women who applied to our clinic for prenatal follow-up and who underwent Toxoplasma gondii (t.gondii) serological tests. Age, place of birth, and anti-t.gondii immunoglobulin (Ig) M and G data were obtained by screening hospital records. Cases were grouped according to their place of birth and analyzed for toxoplasma seropositivity. Results: Of the 817 pregnant women included in the study, 296 (36.2%) had anti-t.gondii IgG positive. In terms of seropositivity of anti-t.gondii IgG, there was a significant difference between the patients of Aegean Region (30.1%) and patients of Southeast Anatolia (47.1%) (p <0.05). Also toxoplasmosis seroprevalence Turkey's west of the origin of the patient group (29.5%) compared to the Syrians patients (45.7%) was significantly lower (p <0.05). Conclusion: In west of Turkey, due to the high sensitivity of toxoplasma infection associated with lower toxoplasma seroprevalence compared to the east, intended to prevent the risk of congenital toxoplasmosis can be increased we recommend at least region-based prenatal toxoplasma scanning. Congenital syphilis is preventable with proper antenatal follow-up and treatment of the pregnant woman infected with Treponema pallidum, and the rapid evaluation and early treatment of the newborns. Here we report a newborn with early congenital syphilis presenting with maculopapular rash and positive treponemal test born to an inadequately treated syphilitic mother.

Background: To evaluate the efficacy of probing therapy and the success rates according to age groups in patients with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNCO). Methods: In this study, the records of patients who underwent probing between 2016-2019 due to CNCO were examined retrospectively. The age of the patients at the time of probing, the status of complaints of posttreatment irrigations, the presence of epiphora, and the results of the fluorescein disappearance test were noted. The success of the procedure was evaluated according to the age groups. Results: A total of 77 patients (45 female (58.5%) and 32 men (41.5%) with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 18.8±10.4 months (2-39 months) and the mean follow-up period was 11.6 ±7.6 months (6-18 months). In 35 patients, right (37.2%), in 42 (44.7%) left and in 17 (22.1%) both eyes were probed in 94 eyes. The patients were divided into four groups according to their age. In the first group (0-12 months), the success rate was 100% with the probing, in the second group (13-24 months) by 90.0% with the first probe application and in the second by 97.4%. In the third group (25-36 months), 66.7% was successfully applied by probing. In the fourth group (37-48 months), the success rate was 56.2%. Conclusions: Probing for CNCO patients not recovering with hydrostatic massage treatment is an effective treatment method in early age groups. Objective: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the most frequently seen congenital infection. While it is seen in all age groups, it may have some severe negative impacts on the fetus when exposed during intrauterine life. In our study, we evaluated the patients with symptomatic cytomegalovirus infection. Methods: Admission files of 40 patients admitted at Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital between December 2004 and December 2009 for a variety of reasons and diagnosed as CMV infection as a result of clinical and laboratory analyses were investigated retrospectively. Diagnosis of the patients thought to be CMV infection was made based on CMV IGM positivities, and if facilities permitted diagnosis of CMV infection was established with CV DNA-PCR and antigenemia tests. Results: Symptomatic CMV infection was diagnosed in a total of 40 patients. When diagnostic classification was performed, 40% of them had congenital CMV and 60% of them acquired CMV. The frequency of symptomatic congenital CMV infection at our hospital between 2004-2009 was identified as 0.1 percent. The most frequently detected physical findings were hepatosplenomegaly (40%) and jaundice (30%). When we investigated prognosis of cases with congenital CMV we found motor mental retardation in 37.5%,hearing impairment in 25%, epilepsy in 12.5% and growth retardation 12.5% of the patients. In cases with acquired CMV improvement rates in patients treated for hepatitis and pneumonia were 70% and 100% respectively. Conclusion: The frequency of CMV infection in our study shows similarity with other developing countries. Patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and newborns must be carefully approached. We recommend ganciclovir treatment for the selected cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Tragus is a part of the external ear that develops from the first branchial arch. Accessory ear is a congenital external ear anomaly and has skin elevation containing remnant cartilage. The auricle develops between the 4th and 12th week of the embryonic stage, which groove the tissue from the 1st and 2nd branchial arches. Histologically, the lesions include a rugated epidermis with a thin layer stratum corneum, tiny mature hair follicles, fat lobules, and connective tissue framework that may include a central cartilage core. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accessory tragus lesions with our clinical surgical treatment results. Material and Methods: Lesions usually located anterior to the tragus and along an imaginary line drawn from the tragus to the angle of the mouth. Twelve patients admitted to our clinic between October 2011 and November 2014 were included in this study. Results: Seven boys and five girls between two–13 years old underwent operation. In total, 28 accessory ears were excised. No complications were observed during the procedure, and no complaints were noted in the postoperative period. Conclusion: Generally, limited anomaly is associated with the first and second branchial arch anomalies. Surgical excision is the standard treatment for the lesions which usually due to the esthetic concerns.

Single ventricle is a rare congenital heart dis-ease, typically diagnosed with dyspnea and cyanosis. The number of patients who reach adulthood without having un-dergone surgical treatment is limited due to poor prognosis. While some reports in the literature, describe patients who have reached the 2nd and 3rd decades of life, it is very interesting that the case of the patient who has lived the longest with unoperated single ventricle is reported in Turkey.

The embryogenesis of the kidney and drainage system accounts for the development and frequency of congenital abnormalities. We collected 50 pairs of adult human kidneys to study the renal angioarchitecture from department of anatomy Madras Medical College, Chennai. Out of 50 pairs in one specimen of right kidney we observed duplication of ureter but the left kidney of same pair is normal. The unilateral duplication of ureter extend s from renal pelvis to pelvic brim near the pelvic brim both the duplicated ureter joined later continue as single ureter and entering the urinary bladder. The incidence of partial duplication of ureter is 1% out of 100 kidneys. We also observed inferior segmental artery arising from the aorta as inferior aberrant artery which crosses the duplicated ureter posteriorly instead of going anteriorly. Chylous ascites is a rare condition due to the extravasations of chylous fluid through the peritoneal space. Congenital form of chylous ascites is extremely rare. Delay in diagnosis and treatment of congenital ascites creates medical problems. The main approach of treatment is conservative. Drainage of peritoneal chylous fluid, replacement of volume and protein loss, cessation of enteral feeding and parenteral nutrition, rich in middle chain fatty acids and somatostatin are recommended. If these conservative treatment alternatives are ineffective, then surgery can be considered. Fibrin adhesives can be used in surgery to decrease lymphatic leakage. Due to the rarity and difficulty in management of congenital chylous ascites, here we present a case who did not respond to conservative treatment for two months and benefited from catheterization of the lymphatic leakage areas and adhesive fibrin therapy during explorative laparotomy. Aim: We aimed to evaluate the effects of the severity and symptoms of congenital heart disease and the emotional and behavioral problems of affected children on their quality of life. Material and Methods: The study was performed by interviewing 80 children aged between 6 and 16 years (40 with cyanotic heart disease and 40 with acyanotic disease) and their mothers. A sociodemographic data form, quality of life questionnaire, strength and difficulties questionnaire, and family life and parenting attitudes scale were used in the research. Life quality was the dependent variable of this research. Results: No significant relation was found between age, sex, and education level of the parents and all quality of life subscale scores (p>0.05). In terms of quality of life, total quality of life subscale, emotional well-being and self-esteem subscales were significantly lower in children with cyanotic congenital heart disease (p=0.02, p=0.007, p=0.006, respectively). The total quality of life subscale was signifi- cantly lower in children with a medical treatment and surgical history. In terms of clinical symptoms, self-esteem, friendship and school life quality subscales were affected in the presence of dyspnea. As scores from strength and difficulties questionnaire increased, which is used for the assessment of children's psychological symptoms, all quality of life scores were significantly lowered except for school and family subscales. Conclusion: It was found that symptoms of congenital heart disease affected the psychosocial quality of life subscales rather than the physical subscales. In addition, it was observed that mental symptoms in both the mother and child negatively affected quality of life rather than disease-related parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Congenital lobar emphysema is defined by hyperinflation of 1 or more lung lobes in the absence of extrinsic bronchial obstruction. It is a very rare condition with an incidence of 1 in 20,000 to 30,000 births. The etiology is unknown in 50% of cases. Other factors suspected in the etiology are bronchial abnormalities or alveolar defects. Some theories also include bronchial collapse as a result of insufficient cartilage support. The left upper lobe is frequently affected, followed by the middle and right upper lobes, while the lower lobes are rarely affected. The embryogenesis of the kidney and drainage system accounts for the development and frequency of congenital abnormalities. We collected 50 pairs of adult human kidneys to study the renal angioarchitecture from department of anatomy Madras Medical College, Chennai. Out of 50 pairs in one specimen of right kidney we observed duplication of ureter but the left kidney of same pair is normal. The unilateral duplication of ureter extend s from renal pelvis to pelvic brim near the pelvic brim both the duplicated ureter joined later continue as single ureter and entering the urinary bladder. The incidence of partial duplication of ureter is 1% out of 100 kidneys. We also observed inferior segmental artery arising from the aorta as inferior aberrant artery which crosses the duplicated ureter posteriorly instead of going anteriorly. Phakomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV) is a group of diseases that defined as the coexistence of vascularized and pigmented nevi. Patients with PPV often have ophthalmic abnormalities including ocular melanocytosis, goniodysgenesis, congenital glaucoma and choroidal melanoma. Objective: We presented Salter pelvic osteotomy performed developmental hip dysplasia patients results with preoperative and postoperative avascular necrosis(AVN) grade and evaluated the effect of preoperative AVN on operation results. Materials and Methods: We examined eightteen patients' twenty two hips retrospectively whom open reduction and Salter pelvic osteotomy performed between 2002 and 2008. Clinical and radiological evaluation and AVN grading were done. Preperative and postoperative AVN grades were determined and compared. Results: Twenty two hips (19 girls, 3 boys; mean age 32.8months) were evaluated retrospectively . Mean follow up period was 26.7 months. Clinical results were excellent according to McKay's criteria in 18 hips (81%), good in 4 (18 %) and there were no bad or moderate result. In radiologic evaluation according to Severin's grade, 18 hips (81%) were evaluated as very good or good. The mean acetabular index which was 39,3±5,8 degree preoperatively decreased to 22,7± 5,4 degree postoperatively. There were avascular necrosis in five hips (22 %) preoperatively and in 10 hips (45 %) postoperatively. An increase in avascular necrosis grade or development of new avascular necrosis was seen in 8 (%36) patients postoperatively. Conclusions: Postoperative short term AVN rates are high in late diagnosed developmental hip dysplasia patients whom pelvic osteotomy were performed. Preoperative avascular necrosis grade and grade I avascular necrosis cases should be taken into consideration for more significant and comparable postoperative evaluation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Congenital toxoplasmosis is a rare intrauterine infection caused by acute infection of the mother during pregnancy. Congenital toxoplasmosis can present in a spectrum from a mild form to a severe form including chorioretinitis, meningitis, hydrocephaly and intracranial calcification. Although possibility of passage to the fetus is low in early pregnancy, the severity and sequela risk are high. Diagnosis depends on the demonstration of the parasites itself, its DNA extracts, or antibodies against the surface antigens of the parasites. Here we present two cases of congenital toxoplasmosis that did not have antenatal follow-up. The family of the first case arrived from Syria due to war and the mother did not receive any antenatal care because of poor living conditions after the forced migration. The second case was the fourth pregnancy of the mother who did not have any antenatal care. Finally, congenital toxoplasmosis is an insidious and fatal disease. Early treatment during pregnancy or the postnatal period has positive effects on the prognosis. Antenatal care is important in the diagnosis. We would like to underline the importance of informing both refugees and natives about antenatal care and the necessity of taking preventive measures for refugees by the authorities. İnfantil fibröz hamartom sıklıkla hayatın ilk yılında görülen, nadir ve benign bir subkutan tümördür. Hastalar genellikle üst ekstremite yerleşimli ağrısız ve hızlı büyüyen bir kitle nedeniyle başvurmaktadır. Kitlenin radyolojik özellikleri ve hızlı büyüme özelliği nedeniyle yumuşak doku sarkomlarından ayırt edilmesi zor olabilir. Burada büyük bir gluteal kitle ile başvuran 5 aylık bir erkek çocukta infiltratif malign tümör özellikleri gösteren fibröz hamartom olgusu sunulmaktadır.

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI) is a rare benign subcutaneous tumor which is commonly seen in the first year of life. Patients usually present with a single, painless, rapidly growing mass located mostly on the upper extremities. It can be difficult to distinguish this lesion from the malignant soft tissue sarcomas because of the rapid growth and radiological characteristics. Here we report a 5-month-old boy with a large gluteal mass and cutaneous findings which was initially thought to be an infiltrative malignant tumor and finally diagnosed as FHI. Tek taraflı internal karotis arter (ICA) hipoplazisi, son derece nadir rastlanan konjenital bir anomalidir. Tanı genellikle başka bir nedenle yapılan radyolojik araştırma esnasında rastlantısal olarak konulur. Sıklıkla asemptomatik seyretmekle birlikte, hayatı tehdit eden gelişimsel anomaliler eşlik edebilir. Bu çalışmada, vertigo nedeni ile araştırılırken yapılan radyolojik görüntülemelerde sol internal karotis arter hipoplazisi saptanan bir vaka sunulmuştur.

Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with multiple morphological abnormalities. Clinical diagnosis is based on the presence of central obesity, polydactyly, rod-cone dystrophy, varying degrees of learning disability, hypogonadism (in men) and renal abnormalities. Cardiac involvement is a rare condition. We present a 28-year-old male with complaints of progressive dyspnea and palpitation diagnosed as BBS and subaortic discrete membrane. Careful echocardiographic evaluation of patients with BBS, such as in this case report, may allow us to discover novel cardiac abnormalities in this patient population.

Unilateral hypoplasia of the internal carotid artery, is an extremely rare conjenital anomaly. It is usually diagnosed incidentally during radiological examination for another reason. Although mostly asymptomatic, it may be accompanied with life-threatening developmental anomalies. The Waardenburg Syndrome is characterized by congenital sensorineural deafness, bilateral pale blue eyes, heterochromia or two colors in the same eye, piebaldism, partial albinism, and dystopia cantorum (lateral displacement of inner canthi). There are 4 types of the syndrome. There is no literature data on proctocolitis associated with Waardenburg Syndrome. In this article, we present the results of a 2-year-old female patient with Waardenburg syndrome type 2 (iris heterochromia, bilateral hearing loss) and proctocolitis and discuss the decrease in proctocolitis findings with amino acid-based food use. Objective: Tragus is a part of the external ear that develops from the first branchial arch. Accessory ear is a congenital external ear anomaly and has skin elevation containing remnant cartilage. The auricle develops between the 4th and 12th week of the embryonic stage, which groove the tissue from the 1st and 2nd branchial arches. Histologically, the lesions include a rugated epidermis with a thin layer stratum corneum, tiny mature hair follicles, fat lobules, and connective tissue framework that may include a central cartilage core. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accessory tragus lesions with our clinical surgical treatment results. Material and Methods: Lesions usually located anterior to the tragus and along an imaginary line drawn from the tragus to the angle of the mouth. Twelve patients admitted to our clinic between October 2011 and November 2014 were included in this study. Results: Seven boys and five girls between two--13 years old underwent operation. In total, 28 accessory ears were excised. No complications were observed during the procedure, and no complaints were noted in the postoperative period. Conclusion: Generally, limited anomaly is associated with the first and second branchial arch anomalies. Nasal gliomas are rare and benign congenital tumors caused by abnormal embryonic development. There are three clinical types as extranasal, intranasal and mixed. These masses are firm, non-pulsatile, gray or pink and clinically obstruct the nasal cavity or cause an extranasal deformity. Radiological examination is necessary to determine if intracranial involvement is present. The treatment requires surgical excision and a multidisiplinary approach.
