POLITICAL elites , *REVOLUTIONS , *CULTURAL values , *NEOLIBERALISM , *COUPS d'etat , *ARAB Spring Uprisings, 2010-2012 - Abstract
Egyptian revolution, which started with great optimism regarding country's future, after toppling 30 years long Mubarak regime and experiencing disappointments with first civil administration under Muslim brotherhood government, ended up with the restoration of authoritarianism as a result of a military coup. In this article when delving into the reasons of revolution's failures, orientalist and elitist theories argued that main issues of failure revolved around the immutable power of the army and political elites over resurrecting masses and lack of general faith in the country regarding the creation of a liberal democratic order. What was missing is, from a Gramscian background, important role that neoliberalism and its destructiveness over social and political life in the last four decades of Egypt, played. In here my basic idea is that after 2011 uprising, revolutionary groups could not settle accounts with neoliberal past and its institutions. Then, on that misconstrued basis, they tried to build a new order. While the Muslim brotherhood government criticized the establishment in terms of religion and cultural values, secular opposition missed the determining role of the army within the economic affairs of the country. Due to these reasons, El-Sisi, seems like an ordinary officer, was able to ensure the restoration of authoritarian rule in Egypt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CULTURAL values , *ADJECTIVES (Grammar) , *PROVERBS , *VERBS , *EMOTIONS , *VOCABULARY - Abstract
Proverbs are one of the ways that societies transmit their cultural values from one generation to the next. A word or combination of words stands out more than the others in any of the aspects of a large number of the proverbs examined in this study. It transfers emotion more effectively since it is expressed more clearly. Proverbs are known for their sentence stress on adjectives, adverbs, and place-indicating terms. This might be understood as an external manifestation of the goal to guide people toward the good through counsel based on collective experiences. Proverbs are categorized into three primary classes based on this observation: place-stressed, adverb-stressed, and adjective-stressed. Their corresponding structures are also covered. Adjectives have the strongest sentence stress in proverbs, and it is evident that they primarily convey a quality of the subject. After adjectives, adverbs (mostly derived from verbs) have the highest sentence stress. Place-indicating words can also contain sentence stress. Because proverbs are the byproducts of human-oriented oral culture, the fact that sentence stress is focused on an adjective--that is, an attribute of the subject--is interpreted as an attempt to keep the subject from being viewed negatively and to encourage them to be good by drawing attention to that attribute. Adverbs, which typically involve action, also have strong sentence stress because of an innate need to shield the reader from inappropriate behavior by emphasizing the cause-and-effect relationship and pointing them in the direction of appropriate behavior. CULTURAL values , *LITERARY form , *NATIVE language , *SECONDARY schools , *TEXTBOOKS , *FOLKLORE - Abstract
The desideratum from Turkish coursebooks is that they should play a critical role in bridging the present with the past and future, in addition to being the product of a perspective that aims to catch the era. The main expectation is for students to be aware of national, spiritual, and cultural values that align with the content and objectives of the native language course so that they develop and reinforce their national sentiments and perspectives with this awareness. Hence, it is vital to introduce elements and works of Turkish culture to satisfy students’ expectations. This study comprised an identification and evaluation process of folklore elements in secondary school Turkish coursebooks. The study data -mainly based on document analysis- was separated by Sedat Veyis Örnek’s classification of folklore study subjects and analyzed with the descriptive analysis approach. According to the study results, it is viable to assert that secondary school Turkish coursebooks contain historical and cultural elements -albeit with certain deficiencies- in numerous literary genres to pass on Turkish culture to future generations. The Holy Qur'an is the last divine book and the last link in the chain of revelation. Sent for the guidance of mankind, the Qur'an aims at the salvation of its interlocutors in this world and the Hereafter. The last divine book was completed gradually over a period of twenty-three years. The verses and sūrahs were dictated by the Prophet (PBUH) to the scribes of revelation and the verses to be inserted between which verses of which sūrah were notified. In the meantime, the names of many surahs were specified and the Holy Qur'an took its final form with 114 surahs. As the Holy Qur'an has names, these suras also have names. In this context, some surahs have one name, some have two names, and some have more than one name. In this study, although subjective, six criteria were determined. These criteria are the first verses or word of the surah, a concise or strange word it contains, hurûf-u muqattaas, an important subject described in the surah or the main subject of the surah, a place mentioned in the surah or a special name. From this point of view, under which criterion 114 suras should be categorised is an issue that needs to be resolved. At the point of resolving this issue, it is of great importance to determine which criterion or criteria are taken as basis in the naming of suras. Due to its importance, in this study, the suras were categorised by classifying them under the determined criteria. As a result of this categorisation, it was determined which surah should be examined under which title. The aim of this study is to examine the sample suras within the framework of these criteria, which constitute the basis for the naming of the suras, and to draw attention to the criteria within which other suras should be evaluated. Literature review method is used in the article. In order to expand the study, some surahs were chosen as focal points, classical and modern tafsirs, works written on Ulûm al-Qur'an, history of tafsir and tafsir methodology books were scanned. In addition, other studies related to the subject have also been examined. The subject was explained in the light of the findings obtained as a result of the scanning. The research covers the explanation of issues such as the criteria taken as basis in the naming of the suras and for which suras these criteria are the main criteria. As a result of the study, it has been tried to determine which criteria are taken as basis when naming suras, how these criteria are used and which sura should be classified under which criterion. This review aims to evaluate the connections between emotion regulation and cultural elements via different theoretical frameworks. For this purpose, one of the most used emotion regulation models in the literature, Gross's model is briefly explained. Also, cultural elements are discussed by focusing on socialization practices, social rules, cultural scenarios, cultural values, and cultural differences highlighted in these concepts. Besides, the cultural differences in emotional expression and regulation through cultural values are presented by using two different theories and related research. The results of these research show that suppression can be adaptive and functional in different cultural contexts, and different levels of analysis can be combined to explain the processes of emotional behavior.

FAMILY structure , *MARRIAGE , *SOCIAL structure , *ARRANGED marriage , *CULTURAL values , *FAMILIES - Abstract
The marriage is one of the most significant transition periods in human life when the process of girls and boys joining in social life as a new family begins. The fact that the family forms the basis of the social structure has given a universal value to the marriage event that establishes this union. In every society, marriage occurs according to certain rules of the type of culture to which it belongs. For this reason, the customs, traditions, and customs applied during the marriage process constitute the marriage culture of that society. In this study, it has been examined on traditional marriage styles to be seen in Turkish culture geography. Common traditional marriage types which listed as arranged marriage, marriage by kidnapping, marriage through cradle marriage, berder marriage, taygeldi marriage, marriage with sister-in-law, polygamous marriage, otura kalma marriage, marriage with brother-in-law, marriage of siblings' children. Epics and folk tales are valuable resources in terms of providing information about the traditions, customs, family structure, lifestyles, world views and elements that make up the culture of societies. While examining marriage types; examples are given from the epics of the Turkish world, especially the Stories of Dede Korkut, the Epic of Manas, and the Epic of Köroğlu. The family, which forms the basis of the social structure and is born through marriage, bears a great responsibility in instilling and transmitting kinship, solidarity and cultural values to new generations. The integrity of Turkish culture also manifests itself in the institution of marriage. Despite the historical, geographical, social and cultural changes experienced by the Turkish world, the common cultural values that were formed centuries ago still continue today. merkez-çevre paradigması ,adalet ve kalkınma partisi ,bürokrasi ,kültürel değerler ,center-periphery paradigm ,justice and development party ,bureaucracy ,cultural values ,Social sciences (General) ,H1-99 - Abstract
ABSTRACT: Center-periphery paradigm is the most important paradigm that is used in the theoretical explanation of ruler-ruled relationship in Turkey. According to paradigm, the values of the center are absolute and unchangeable and bureaucratic cadres considers these values as sacred. All values which are except from values of center are defined as values of environment. This paradigm was accepted as dominant paradigm for many years in the explanation of Turkish politics. The values of the center and periphery have been defined through religion in Turkey. In this context, It has been accepted that the center comprises from secular values and the periphery comprises from traditional/conservative values and the distinction of ruler-ruled has been examined with these values in Turkish politics. In this study, firstly, the general acceptances of the paradigm will be mentioned and then why the break points of our political history are explained with this paradigm and the validity of these explanations will be discussed.. In this context, changes in the last ten years of the Turkish political life will be examined through cultural discourse and symbols. In the study, struggle areas between center and periphery will be discussed through archival research and the validity of the general acceptances of the center-periphery paradigm in the last period of Turkish politics will be queried through archival findings.

BUILT environment , *CITIES & towns , *PUBLIC spaces , *SOCIAL problems , *QUALITY of life , *CULTURAL values - Abstract
One of the biggest problems of the globalizing world is the uncontrolled growth tendency of the cities against the rapidly increasing population and indirectly the decrease in the gaps in the cities and the increase in the built environment. Undoubtedly, the most important components of cities in preserving their historical-cultural characteristics and carrying them to the future are the public spaces that a city has. It can be defined as the public space that cities have; Squares, courtyards, open and green areas, and parks are the main materials that make up the identities of cities, and they also provide opportunities for people to socialize. Today, in addition to the decreasing trend in the number of public spaces, there are also deficiencies in terms of their qualities. There is an important connection between the activity taking place in the public spaces of a city and the quality of life of that city. There are many studies on the concept of 'quality' in public spaces for these reasons. The aim of this study is that which is located in the city center of Çanakkale and has an important place in the city in terms of its historical and cultural values; Examining Çanakkale 18 Mart University Anafartalar Campus, State Hospital, and Çimenlik Castle within the framework of the 'public space quality' parameters, making comparisons with each other and making suggestions on the missing points. In the study, within the framework of the determined public space quality indicators; The analysis of the study areas was made, and the public space quality ranges were scored according to the point system. As a result of the study, it was determined that Çimenlik Castle received the highest score in terms of public space quality, and Çanakkale State Hospital received the lowest score. CULTURAL values , *EDUCATIONAL literature , *HIGHER education , *POPULAR culture , *PROJECT management , *NEOLIBERALISM - Abstract
This study tries to show how the university is articulated to the popular culture ideology by focusing on the transformation of the ontological, epistemological and communicative existence of the university quality as a result of the entrepreneurial university understanding becoming hegemonic over the idea of university. As a result of the encirclement of the higher education field with an entrepreneurial spirit as a result of neoliberal policies, the traditional codes that define the university have been transformed and the "idea of university" has gained a new appearance with the corporate ideology. Entrepreneurial university understanding based on efficiency, competition and project management means the articulation of the university with the market, while it also expresses the structuring of the university according to the demands of the market. In addition, the transfer of the corporate mind to the universities has created a loss of qualifications and in a way caused the university to be surrounded by popular culture. Popular culture has begun to be embraced as a high cultural value, especially within foundation universities, and popular culture indicators have become central in the university's relationship with society in the name of visibility activities. In this context, this study tries to show that the field of higher education is increasingly surrounded by popular culture ideology by focusing on the communication processes of the university-society relationship within the higher education literature on the axis of the entrepreneurial university. URBAN planning , *SPACE perception , *INTEGRITY , *NONGOVERNMENTAL organizations , *STATE power , *CULTURAL values , *PUBLIC spaces - Abstract
Although urban space is a living and continuous space, it is also seen as a tool that reflects all developments in the city. The analysis of space is possible by evaluating the physical, social, historical, cultural, economic, political and administrative factors that vary from past to present. All of the factors are shaped by individüaliste, non-governmental organizations, sectoral components and local government powers, which are the main actors of the space. The identity perception of the place can be analyzed with the integrity extending from the past to the future, and it is possible to read the city correctly and at the same time to be able to read it at the same time by shaping the space in accordance with cultural values, the participation of the people in the administration, city planning principles and planning studies, urbanity awareness, and the fact of belonging to play a major role. The management powers of the space come to the fore in terms of protecting the material-spiritual cultural heritage and supporting the urban texture with participatory approaches. Within the scope of the study, the perception of space-identity of the urban is analyzed by aiming to read the space. The prominent areas in the space, the periods of political-cultural breakdown, the displacement of the focal points in the space with planning studies and the urban perception of the biggest actors of the space were examined. In the study conducted by considering the example of the Pazar district of Rize province, the space that has changed physically from past to present is discussed, and the perception of the space actors in the abstract sense is supported by the survey study. Over the years, physical changes have taken place in the management processes, the first of which was in the 1970s, but with the planning works that have continued until today, it has caused the focal points to change. In line with the decisions taken with the planning studies, it was seen that the city, which was concentrated around the trade center, developed in an east-west direction along the coastal axis. In the survey, starting from the 1980s, when the planning period was active; The perception of space-identity was measured with the people who witnessed the period and the elements that make up the identity of the city were determined. SEPTEMBER 11 Terrorist Attacks, 2001 , *CULTURAL values , *ISLAMOPHOBIA , *HATE ,ISLAMIC countries ,WESTERN countries - Abstract
Islamophobia, which means the fear of Islam, turned into hatred and hostility towards Islam in a short time of five to ten years. It has been increasing every passing day in European countries as well as in the United States. Muslims living in Western countries are humiliated and discriminated against and subjected to these Islamophobic discourses and actions, the dose of which is increasing day by day, and their right to live in safety, which is their most basic human right, is sought to be taken away from them. Islamophobia, which peaked in the United States with the 11 September 2001 attacks, soon reached European countries where Muslims are concentrated and then to countries such as New Zealand on the Australian continent, where many Muslims living there were attacked and brutally killed while they were praying in mosques. Finally in Sweden and Denmark the holy book of Muslims the Qur'an, and the Turkish Flag were burned on the ground, and they were attacked and exposed to hatred and factionalism. These Islamophobic attacks have made Muslims all over the world anxiety and concerned and have brought the necessity of living together with people with different cultural values, which the post-modern period we live into a level that impends world peace. Lately studies on Islamophobia inter-religious dialogue and the need for people with different cultural values to live together show that the issue is important for both Muslims and world peace. While some studies on this subject only identify the interreligious dialogue studies in some European counties as the main theme, in this study, we will try to examine the historical and current causes of Islamophobia, which emerged in the West in the last quarter century but cannot be explained by reason. In other words, we will examine the historical and current causes of anti-Islamism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHEESEMAKING , *NUTRITIONAL value , *RAW milk , *LOCAL foods , *CULTURAL values - Abstract
Herby cheese, one of the brand values of Van province, is a registered local food. There are many academic studies and publications on herby cheese. In this study, the historical and cultural story of herby cheese is evaluated. In this article based on the narratives of the participants, not only the qualities and cultural values that make herby cheese significant are highlighted but also the lifestyles shaped around herby cheese are revealed. It is the aim of this study to reveal the meanings attributed to herby cheese in Van. In addition to that, the scientific studies on the subject were reviewed and herby cheese was also tried to be evaluated in a historical context. In this context; Discussions on how traditional nutrition practices are recreated by the cultural changes and and how the practices shaped around herby cheese are constructed as a tradition have also been analyzed. The herbs that are added to the herby cheese produced in Van, some of which are endemic, distinguish the herby cheese from other cheeses in terms of the smell, taste and nutritional value they add to the cheese. As in the production of some cheeses in the world, making herby cheese with raw milk poses some risks during the preservation phase, and the ongoing preservation practices to prevent these risks become important in themselves. In the study considering the production, maturation and preservation method of herby cheese, a cultural story shaped by the consumption and economic value will be tried to put forward. Besides, its privileged position in the eating habits and practices in the region will also be discussed. Not only the expressions of the similarities and differences with other cheeses produced in different geographies are emphasized, but also the continuity and change of the practices developed around herby cheese in terms of the lives of the people in the region, will also be taken into consideration. PROVERBS , *CULTURAL property , *CULTURAL values , *TELECOMMUNICATION systems , *TURKISH language , *ORAL tradition , *MONUMENTS - Abstract
Proverbs are as old as the history of language, which is a common agreement and communication system, and they are born and developed within the oral tradition. In the written tradition, the first examples of Turkish proverbs are found in the Orkhon Monuments, one of the oldest texts. The fact that some of these examples are still alive in Kyrgyz Turkish, which is one of the dialects of the Turkish language, albeit with some changes, shows the importance of the said dialect. It is equally important to examine the Kyrgyz proverbs that have carried our common cultural heritage and value judgments to the present day. In this study, the male image reflected in the Kyrgyz proverbs was discussed and the themes of the social representation of the Kyrgyz man were tried to be determined. With the scanning method, 545 proverbs with male and male-pointing words were divided into 5 groups and examined. With this grouping, it is aimed to reveal the place of man in Kyrgyz proverbs in Kyrgyz society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anatolian geography has functioned as a shelter for ancient civilizations by hosting various nations for many years. However, beginning from the first half of 11th century, Anatolia had been a new home for many Oghuz tribes. While coming from Central Asia, these tribes brought their nomadic lifestyle and cultural values to these lands. In this context, the role of language in cultural transmission is a fact accepted by all scientific authorities. A lot of information about social life in the minds of the people is kept alive and transferred with language. Turkey Turkish Dialects has a rich vocabulary incorporating various ethnic and linguistic data. Unfortunately, this rich vocabulary is disappearing day by day with the development of technology, the widespread use of mass media, the increase in the rate of literacy and the increase in migration from rural areas to city. Dictionary of Compilation, the dialect dictionary of Turkey Turkish, has emerged thanks to two large studies conducted in the 1930s and 1950s. However, there are some regions that were not included while creating this dictionary. At this point, there are many words that are used in common dialects but are not recorded in this dictionary. In this study, to contribute to the Dictionary of Compilation, words and pattern expression used in the dialect of Kumluca District which are not found in this dictionary or used in different meanings are determined and recorded. Transcription marks are also used in this study to reflect the phonetic properties of these mentioned entities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

River Basin areas provide ecosystem services. These areas are decreasing due to natural and anthropogenic activities. With the effects of climate change, anthropological effects and urbanization, environmental issues are continuously increasing in the basins. One of the approaches to analyze and report environmental problems is the DPSIR (Drivers, Pressures, States, Impacts and Responses) model used as a a global to local scale. Using the DPSIR model to analyze anthropogenic factors and environmental pressures helps to analyze, identify and evaluate complex environmental problems. This study was carried out in the Tersakan sub-basin, which is one of the biggest sub-basins of the Yeşilırmak basin, which has a high rate of deterioration due to socio-economic, anthropogenic, and nature-related factors. The study aims to detect the changes in ecosystem services in the Tersakan sub-basin with the DPSIR model and to develop suggestions for the application of applying the model. As a result of the study, it has been found that the degradation in the sub-basin is more in providing(Food, water, freshwater, biological material, decorative resources, genetic resources, biochemicals and medicinal products) ecosystem services and cultural (cultural diversity, moral and ethical values, information system, educational value, inspirational value, aesthetic values, social relations, sense of place and space, cultural heritage value, recreation and ecotourism) ecosystem services. PATRIOTISM , *VALUES education , *CULTURAL values , *EDUCATIONAL benefits , *JUSTICE , *FRIENDSHIP , *DIGITAL media - Abstract
Values are the cultural elements that a society reveals, that creates and directs the society. In order for society to survive, it must be transmitted from generation to generation. Epic, fairy tale, folk tale, anecdote and legends, which we call folk narratives, are extremely important in providing this transfer. Because these narratives are narratives in oral, written and electronic media. Those who listen and read these narratives by accessing them from one of the specified environments will also have learned the values. Legends are texts created about the adventures of the occurrence of some formations that people saw around them in the period when science was not very developed and widespread. These texts convey the values education to future generations because of the cultural elements they contain. Legends have educational and value-added functions. Especially when they are examined in terms of value education, it will be seen that the legends are very rich and they are a type of folk narrative that can be used for value education. The main purpose of this study is to reveal this aspect of the legends, which are thought to be rich in values, and to determine that they can be used in values education. For this purpose, Saim Sakaoğlu's book 101 Anatolian Legends is based on ten core values (justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, benevolence) in the Turkish Language Curriculum published by the Ministry of National Education in 2019, will be examined and interpreted with the document review method, one of the qualitative research methods. GREEN movement , *POLITICAL doctrines , *CULTURAL values , *SOCIOCULTURAL factors , *WORLDVIEW - Abstract
The aim of the study is to explore the level of relationship between the idea of ecologism and sociopolitical, demographic, and cultural factors. In particular, how the relationship between the political preferences adopted by individuals and the tendency towards ecological worldview varies between cultures, and how it affects the policies developed for dealing with ecological problems are among ones discussed in the academic and political field. In addition, it is argued that political and cultural values such as the significance of democracy, property issues, postmaterialist values, and demographic factors as gender, age, education, income level and country have a determining effect on the ecological privileges. In this context, considering the results of the 7th Wave World Values Research Survey (2017-2021), the level of relationship between the variables is tried to be estimated with the Chi-Squre (X2) analysis. As a result of the study, it is concluded that sociopolitical, and cultural factors such as political ideologies, view of property status, postmaterialist values, and democracy have a more determinant level of relationship in orientations to ecologism and political support compared to demographic factors. The subject of the study is the values that managers have in the context of cultural dimensions. The aim of the study is to reveal managerial values that express cultural dimensions. In this direction, a scale of managerial value differences was created to determine the value structure of managers in organizations. The scale of managerial value differences was developed based on Hofstede's cultural dimensions. It may not be appropriate to apply a scale developed in different countries regarding cultural values to employees in another country. The scale was developed based on the values in its own country. In addition, the perception of cultural change was added to the scale as a dimension. Due to such features, the scale was different from other studies. The fact that the development process of the scale coincided with the pandemic conditions delayed reaching the employees. The study was carried out in the fields of marble, service and textile. The scale of managerial value differences consists of 9 factors: individualism, collectivism, masculine values, feminine values, high power distance, low power distance, high uncertainty avoidance, low uncertainty avoidance and cultural change perception. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was 0.85, KMO value was 0.93, and total explained variance value was 60.55. As a result of Confirmatory Factor Analysis, GFI value was 0.91, NFI value was 0.93, CFI value was 0.95, CMIN/DF value was 2.54 and RMSEA value was 0.036. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Transition periods mean that the status and situation of individuals change. The ceremony, on the other hand, is called the time when entertainment and gastronomy practices were brought from generation to generation, embedded in the culture. Marriage is both a transitional phase and includes many gastronomic rituals. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the gastronomic practices made in marriage ceremonies in the provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Southeastern Anatolia Region has been determined as a research area due to its cultural, historical, natural attractions and riches. The interview method was used as a data collection technique within the framework of the qualitative research approach. Purposive sampling method was used to determine the sample. For this purpose, the research was carried out through a semistructured interview form with sixty-three (63) cultural transmitters aged fifty (50) years and over in the provinces in the region. Within the scope of the study, data were collected from people who volunteered to participate in the research about marriage, engagement, dowry receiving-spreading, wedding bath, henna night, wedding. Descriptive analysis was used to evaluate the data. According to the result obtained, it has been found that the cultural values brought by being transferred from generation to generation lose their importance day by day. It is revealed that the change in family structure, technology, urbanization, intense business life and socioeconomic factors are effective in the emergence of this situation. In the light of all these, it offers suggestions to contribute to practitioners and future research in various aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ART movements , *GEOGRAPHIC boundaries , *CULTURAL values , *OTTOMAN Empire , *PANORAMAS - Abstract
The Ottoman Empire has been an irresistible center of attraction for Western travelers and artists for centuries with its vast lands. The geography of the Empire, where centers such as Istanbul were the focus of attention at the beginning, became a more easily accessible place thanks to the technological opportunities that developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, cities in different regions such as İzmir, Aydın, Van and Erzurum within the borders of the imperial geography, which were in the interest of the Westerners with the influence of art movements such as Romanticism and Orientalism that took place in Europe's own internal dynamics during this period, began to take place in the works of wandering artists. One of the prominent names among Western artists who visited a large part of Anatolia, especially Istanbul, is the French-born Orientalist painter Eugène Flandin. Refik Halid Karay, who dealt with the depressive years experienced in the Turkish society at military, political, economic, and social levels with a realist attitude under the influence of his journalism occupation, mentions the painful aspects of the transition process from an empire to a republic, especially in his articles and novels. One of the author’s 20 novels, Ekmek Elden Su Gölden is a novel in which corruption is conveyed in ethical, economic, societal, and individual dimensions by placing the individual and the society at the center. Sticking to a realistic perspective along with being critical and humorous in the novel, the author handles social stratification based on materialism, which was the prevailing tendency of the 1940s, the exploitative figures that turn people’s labor into an opportunity for themselves, and mentality that is far from values and dependent on individuals desires and urges by building on fictional characters. The author, who at the same time emphasizes the importance of cultural values against the tendency of the individuals and the society towards corruption, alludes to his ideal of the society and human being as well. In the present study, based on the characters of the novel in question, the effect that sense of self and living creates on individual and social structure will be discussed in the context of corruption. INTERNAL migration , *NONGOVERNMENTAL organizations , *CULTURAL values , *CITIES & towns , *REGIONAL differences ,SNOWBALL sampling - Abstract
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play an important role in the realization of harmonization activities. During the execution of these activities, some problems may occur in all processes from the determination of the needs to the meeting. For this reason, this study was carried out with the aim of evaluating the problems experienced by NGO officials working with immigrant groups during the activities they carried out for the integration process of immigrants. During the study, it was aimed to see whether the working contents and approaches of NGOs differ geographically and culturally. Two different provinces, Şanlıurfa and Istanbul, were selected geographically and culturally, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with NGO managers working with refugees in these two provinces. 9 participants were reached by snowball sampling method. In line with the interviews, four main themes emerged: experience of working with immigrants, integration activities, cultural values in immigrant work, and evaluations of the effectiveness of immigrant work. The data we obtained as a result of the research showed that the working and implementation styles of NGOs in these two cities are similar. It is thought that this result we have obtained is related to the fact that the intensity of internal migration in Turkey gradually reduces regional differences, as well as the similarity of countries and cities in the globalization process, and the fact that institutional structures gradually move away from local approaches.
