Today, it has gained importance in the automotive sector besides tangible assets. Intellectual and property rights are among the intangible assets; especially patents are on the agenda. As a result of the increase in knowledge-oriented studies and knowledge economy in the sector, a differentiation step has become a must for companies to stay ahead of competitors and survive in global market conditions. In this study, the patent portfolio will be formed as a result of the patent applications made for inventions that go through all the processes, and it is expected that more registration will be obtained after the application. Innovative ideas create the most important input to start innovation progress. Without innovative ideas cannot be mentioned about innovation. A rapidly growing R&D activity in our country also increases the in-house innovation activities. However, processes and ideas which are currently being used in product or production process needs to be under protection with Intellectual Property Rights before being presented to the public or incorporate platforms to avoid that has the potential to be used by 3rd parties. Patent studies which are emerged as an important value for companies should be a managed process. In this study, how patentable ideas can be determined from the ideas that form the basis of innovation process, how these ideas can be collected in a systematic way within the company, basic content of the invention declaration, evaluation criteria, in which framework needs to be taken into consideration on evaluation of whole life of patent and value creation for the company will be examined.
