In this study, the relationship between capacity utilization rate and inflation rate is investigated for Turkey by using both OLS and Kalman filter analysis. The data used in this study are monthly and cover the periods of 1991-2006 and 2007-2012. Supply shocks are added to the model by following McElhattan (1985). In this paper, the non-accelerating inflation rate of capacity utilization is estimated for Turkey. According to findings, this rate takes values between 76-79 % on average. In addition, supply shocks do not adversely affect the positive relationship between capacity utilization rate and inflation rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Canonical correlation analysis is a multivariate statistical technique that can be used to determine the relationship between two multiple variable sets. In the first part of this paper which applied the canonical correlation analysis, theoretical explanation of the usage of canonical correlation analysis is exposed. Then, in the second part of the study, the application of canonical correlation analysis is exposed for some social and economic indicators of 54 countries that are the members of the African Union. "Sustainable competitive advantage (SCA)" concept is perhaps the most widely used concept in strategic management field. On the other hand, attempts to describe it clearly have been very limited. Thus, what exactly sustainability means is not clear. In this study, for the purpose of making SCA concept clear; definition of SCA concept, relationships between SCA and long term superior financal performance, sources of SCA according to different authors, and the place SCA has in economics have been examined by reviewing the literature. This paper aims to analyse the cyclical behaviour of fixed investments in Turkey and then construct a composite leading indicators index to forecast the turning points of investment. The cycles of investment and selected leading indicators are identified following the growth cycle approach. The series are detrended using the Hodrick-Prescott detrending filter. After identification of the cycles and turning points of the selected leading indicators, they are combined into a single composite index. Then a probit model is estimated to evaluate the forecast performance of the composite index. The results show that the constructed CLI is considered to be helpful in monitoring and predicting investment expenditures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
