Bostadsbristen i Sverige påverkar 75% av alla kommuner. För att kunna lösa krisen snabbt och effektivt bör byggbranschen ta nya idéer och byggteknik på allvar. Att bygga bostäder av fraktcontainer innebär att bygga snabbt och miljövänligt.Denna typ av projekt behöver utveckla för att anpassa det till det svenska hårda vädret och uppfylla kraven som ställs av boverket BBR. Isolering av en containeryttervägg anses som ett problem när det gäller denna typ av projekt. För att flera ska bygga bostäder av fraktcontainer behöver problemet att lösa. Genom att samla in information och ta inblick i redan byggda bostäder av fraktcontainer ska två olika alternativ för ytterväggars isolering jämföras. Risk för köldbryggor, U-värde och kostnad ska jämföras. In Sweden, 75% of municipalities are affected by a shortage of housing. To solve the housing crisis, the construction industry must adopt effective and innovative construction techniques and methods. By building housing out of shipping containers, the result will be fast, environmentally friendly, and costeffective. However, this type of housing needs a building technique developed and adjusted for the harsh Swedish climate and fulfill the National Board of Housing, Building, and Planning requirements. One significant problem hindering the process of this project is isolating the container’s exterior wall. Solving this problem will encourage the construction industry to build this type of housing. Through data collection and considering shipping container housing built already, this paper will make a comparison between two different options for wall insulation will be compared. Further the U- value, costand thermal bridges risk will be compared.

Introduction: Sweden's climate creates several challenges to achieve habitable indoor climate. In Sweden, it is most common for detached houses of wooden construction to use mineral wool or wood fibre to insulate the exterior walls. While mineral wool and wood fibre are the most popular choices, there are several other alternative insulation materials that can be beneficial. The thesis deals with four insulation materials where stone wool and wood fibre are pitted against the more modern materials PIR and PUR to investigate which is most advantageous with the help of life cycle analysis, life cycle cost analysis and energy use in production, installation and end of life. The three criteria are then summed up in a multi-criteria analysis to decide which material is most beneficial. Method: To reach a result, a literature study and case study is conducted with life cycle analysis, life cycle cost analysis and energy use. The life cycle assessment answers question 1, the life cycle cost analysis answers question 2 and the multi-criteria analysis answers question 3. Results & Analysis: Four different insulation materials in a wood-constructed wall were studied where PIR and PUR were considered in two different forms, onewith the same U-value as the stone wool and wood fibre, the other with the same thickness as the stone wool and wood fibre. The different variants are studied using the different criteria in the multi-criteria analysis. The material that has the best environmental impact in the life cycle analysis is wood fibre and then the thin PIR, stone wool, thick PIR, thin PUR and lastly thick PUR. In the life cycle cost analysis, the stone wool is most price efficient, then wood fibre, thin PIR, thick PIR, thin PUR and the most expensive price has the thick PUR. The material with the least energy use throughout the life of the material is wood fibre which is 100 % recyclable, after the wood fibre comes stone wool, thin PIR, thick PIR, thin PUR and the most energy use for the life of the material has thick PUR. Finally, the different results are summarized and show that wood fibre is the material that is most advantageous with the criteria chosen, while the thick variation of PUR is the least advantageous in both environmental aspect and cost. Discussion: The three methods of analysis that have been used in this work have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that they show concrete answers, and the disadvantages are mainly the programs they are performed on. Input into these programs has been thorough, but as they are slow and difficult to navigate, there may be a risk of errors. The multi-criteria analysis should be reviewed, and more criteria examined is recommended.

This report regards evaluating the energy and indoor climate of a pre-school located in Erikslund, Sweden which has undergone several measurers to achieve lower energy usage. The project was done on the orders of the governing municipality of Västerås and tasked to a consulting company for simulating the effects of performing these measures for lowering energy need. The municipal has together with the parliament sat goals to reach in 2020 to reduce the total energy usage by 20 %. The project had earlier installed a total of seven measures (such as new air handling unit, new lightings, adding ceiling insulation) related to energy efficiency was implemented and some ancillary construction of ventilation room. The main purposes for the study are first to analyze the energy and economical calculations and estimations done by the consulting company for the pre-school in the project stage. Then an energy mapping was done by this study to compare the earlier calculations for both the energy and economical part. The results are compared with the real values of both energy and economically data handed by Västerås stad. The theoretically energy usage calculated by the consulting company was before the measures 178 MWh/year to 65 MWh/year after. The energy mapping of this report shows before the measures 216 MWh/year to 108 MWh/year after. To compare with the real energy usage that before was 200 MWh/year, and 113,5 MWh/year after. The total cost of the project summed up to approximately $311K, which is 40 % higher than first estimated by the consulting company. The climate impact of the greenhouse gas CO2 was reduced with 12 ton yearly. Due to complications in the energy follow-up for both heat and electricity there is in the appendix attach instructional guide for Västerås stad to use in future projects regarding energy efficiencies but also evaluating the measures impact on the overall energy usage of the pre-school. The produced guide holds information regarding necessary “setup” for each type of energy efficiency measure making it possible for future evaluation (via measured data). Denna rapport berör en undersökning av Erikslunds förskola, där syftet är att sammanställa data från flera energieffektiviserande åtgärder som har utförts under projektledning av Västerås stad. Med denna data ska det klargöras om hur väl den projekterade energieffektiviseringen stämmer överens mot den verkliga. Det utfördes även en energikartläggning för förskolan för att jämföra mot. Förskolan är belägen i Erikslunds i Västerås och har genomgått totalt sju energieffektiviserande åtgärder samt en omfattande byggåtgärd. De energirelaterade åtgärder som utförts är, tilläggsisolering av kallvind, byte av ventilationssystem (till luftbehandlingsaggregat med roterande värmeväxlare), byte av styrsystem, byte till LED belysning, nya shuntar och cirkulationspumpar, injustering av värme samt varmvattenbesparande åtgärder (perlatorer). En omfattande investering av ventilationssystem med en beräknad energibesparing på ca 80 MWh/år. Analys av investeringen visade en energibesparing på endast 40 MWh under år 2015. I helhet gav åtgärderna en lägre energibesparing än det tidigare beräknade. Den totala energibesparingen var beräknat till ca 120 MWh/år men vid mätning och verifiering uppgick den till ca 60 MWh/år. Utöver energiprestanda undersöktes även det ekonomiska utfallet. Budgeterad investeringskostnaden var ca 1,9 Mkr medan den verkliga kostnaden uppgick till ca 2,6 Mkr. Detta innebar en kostnadsökning på 40 % för projektet. Inomhusklimatet och dess påverkan av energieffektiviserande åtgärder undersöks. Detta gjordes genom en enkätundersökning samt mätningar med temperatur, CO2 och RH (relativ fuktighet) mätloggar. Resultatet av enkätundersökningen visar att det är delade åsikter, men överlag tycker personalen att den har blivit bättre fast fortfarande dålig. Mätresultatet visar att den relativa fukthalten ligger kring det undre gränsvärdet, temperaturerna varierar mellan 18-23 grader och CO2 halten steg maximalt till 825 ppm och håller sig då under gränsvärdet. Det visade sig under projektets gång att projekteringen hade brister både i planering och beräkningar. Det fattades även nödvändiga mätdata för utvärdering av energiprestanda. Slutsatsen blev att investeringarna ej är lönsamma och för att undvika detta i framtida projekt utarbetades en instruktion med tillhörande checklista som finns bifogat under bilagor. Västerås stad kan använda den i framtiden för att undvika att missa viktiga delar som behövs för framtida verifieringar av energiprestanda. Rapporten har i litteraturstudien undersökt redan framtagna guider med checklistor till exempelvis SVEBYS energiavtal 12 som handlar om att i energieffektiviseringsprojekt strukturera upp och öka kvalitén dels för att minska skillnaden mellan projekterad och verkligt utfall, dels för att undvika missar i planeringen. Det har även undersökts liknande energieffektiviseringsprojekt där uppföljning utförts vilket visar att det ofta blir en skillnad mellan projekterad energisimulering samt verkligt utfall, det finns exempel både på när det blir bättre och sämre samt vad det beror på.

Historically, energy use in the operational phase has accounted for most of a building’s climate impact. This has been changed in recent decades because there has been a focus on developing energy-efficient buildings. A larger part of a building’s climate impact is caused by material manufacturing and production. To reduce a building’s climate impact alternative insulation materials can be used, for example hemp fibre insulation which is an organic and non-toxic material. The aim of this study is to find out if hemp fibre insulation can be implemented as a standard insulation material. By examining what factors are vital when choosing an insulation material this work intends to find out if the insulation properties of hemp insulation can fulfill the requirements by the constructor. To fulfill the aim, a combination of interviews, surveys and theoretical studies was used. The most crucial aspects when choosing insulation material are fire resistance, thermal conductivity and health aspects for the construction workers. The benefits with hemp insulation are primarily the negative emissions of carbon dioxide seen from a life cycle perspective, the possibility to cultivate the product within Sweden, its reusability and recyclability and that the insulation material are free from hazardous substances. The disadvantages are higher thermal conductivity, higher market price, lower fire resistance and limited accessibility on the Swedish market. Due to the disadvantages, it is difficult to implement hemp insulation as a standard insulation material today. The conclusions are that the environmental impact is not decisive for an entrepreneur today when choosing insulation material. However, it will most likely become a more essential factor in the future. Improving the building sector’s knowledge regarding hemp insulation, will presumably increase the usage of it. Although, for hemp insulation to become a competitor in the future, it is substantial to increase its fire resistance and the accessibility on the Swedish market. The development of the material and the market may be a contributing factor to achieve the global and national environmental goals.

Det finns en oro kring konsekvenserna av ökade växthusgasutsläpp. Därför har bland annat EU:s medlemsländer tecknat avtal om att minska utsläppen. I Sverige har det lett till krav att från och med 2022 redovisa byggmaterials miljöpåverkan genom klimatdeklarationer. Byggsektorn har potential att minska klimatpåverkan. Byggnadsmaterial ger olika utsläpp av växthusgaser och valet av material är viktigt. Isoleringsmaterial med naturlig härkomst anses orsaka mindre utsläpp än konventionell isolering. Hampa är ett exempel på ett naturligt material som kan användas i småhusbebyggelse. Hampan kan bli en kolsänka då biomaterial binder kol. Tyvärr finns det idag mycket begränsad forskning på just hampfiberisolering i svenskt klimat. Syftet med studien är att bidra med ökad kunskap inför valet av isoleringsmaterial i ett småhus, av modellen Eneryda av Rörvikshus, placerat i Växjö. I arbetet jämförs klimatpåverkan och kostnader för isoleringsmaterialen hamp-, cellulosa- och glasullsisolering genom en livscykelanalys (LCA) och en livscykelkostnad (LCC) i en vald husmodell. I studien undersöks skedena A-D, d.v.s. från vagga till grav. Resultatet visar att byggnaden isolerad med hampfiber orsakar det lägsta nettoutsläppet på 124 följt av cellulosa 132 och glasull 139 CO₂e/m². Kostnaden för byggnaden med isolering av hampfiber är 5467, cellulosa 4830 och glasull 4861 SEK/m²BOA. Genom att välja hampfiberisolering istället för glasull kan utsläppen för husmodellen Eneryda minskas med 12 % samtidigt som kostnaden ökar med 20 %. Att välja cellulosaisolering i stället för glasullsisolering ger en minskning av nettoutsläppen med 5 % och kostnaderna förblir detsamma. Studiens känslighetsanalyser visar effekten av indata. Om råvaran till cellulosa byts ut från oanvänt papper till återvunnen råvara orsakar det att nettoutsläppen för byggnaden Eneryda minskar med 13 %. Det innebär att småhuset Eneryda isolerad med cellulosa från återvunnen produkt orsakar 15 % lägre utsläpp än glasullshuset - utan att påverka priset. Största påverkan på nettoutsläppen hade Enerydas värmesystem. Att använda bergvärme istället för Veab:s fjärrvärme ökade nettoutsläppen med 56 – 63 %. Slutligen ledde resultatet av studien till en diskussion om avsaknaden av en entydig definition och metod för användandet av biogent kol i klimatdeklarationer. Att exkludera biogent kol leder till att hampfiberisoleringen bidrar med högst utsläpp tätt följt av cellulosan och sist glasullsisoleringen som släpper ut minst. Studiens resultat påvisar vikten av vaksamhet och att Boverket borde blir tydligare kring det biogena kolet i klimatberäkningar. Enheten bör utvecklas mer av institut för standarder. Av resultaten framgår också vikten av att ta tidsaspekten av biomaterialets förnyelsetid i beaktande vid beräkningarna för att material som hampfiber binder kol snabbare än exempelvis trä. The concern of climate change has influenced the building sector in Sweden to become more climate neutral. The choice of building materials affect the emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents [CO₂e]. The purpose of the study is to provide more basis for the choice of insulation material looking into the climate- and cost implication of hemp fibre, cellulose and stone wool insulation. The study includes an accounting-LCA from cradle to grave (A – D) and an LCC. The study looks at the climate shell of a one-story single-family house, model Eneryda from Rörvikshus, in Växjö over the lifetime 50 years. The result shows that Eneryda net emissions for hemp fiber insulation is 124 CO₂e/m²BOA and the cost is 5467 SEK/m2 BOA. The result of emissions for the hempfiber-model is 12% less and the cost is 20% higher than the glass wool-model. Cellulose insulation results in net emissions of 132 CO₂e/m² and a cost of 4830 SEK/m2 BOA. Cellulose results in 5% less emissions and nearly the same cost as the glass wool building.

Sammanfattning Syfte: Bygg och fastighetssektorn står för en stor andel av de nationella utsläppen av växthusgaser. Studier visar att klimatpåverkan för drift och produktionsfasen är ungefär ekvivalenta. Majoriteten av produktionsfasens klimatpåverkan härstammar från materialen. Samtidigt som det behövs byggas fler bostäder behöver klimatpåverkan för denna sektor minska, för att uppnå bestämda klimatmål. För att klara av dessa utmaningar behöver isoleringsmaterial och deras påverkan belysas. Isoleringsmaterialet i en byggnad har som syfte att bibehålla värmen i inneklimatet genom att isolera mot ytterklimatet. Tjockare isoleringsskikt leder till bättre isoleringsförmåga och därmed lägre behov för uppvärmning. Dock leder ökad isoleringstjocklek till mer materialåtgång som i sin tur innebär ökad klimatpåverkan för väggkonstruktionen i sin helhet. ”Målet med studien är att klargöra hur olika tjocklekar på isoleringsmaterial av mineralull och cellulosa i byggnader påverkar miljön ur ett livscykelperspektiv. Samt att undersöka vilka marknadsandelar de ingående materialen har.” Metod: Studien har en kvantitativ ansats med fallstudie, litteraturstudie samt dokumentanalys som metod för att uppnå målet genom att besvara frågeställningarna. Resultat: Mineralull står för minst 50% av marknaden. De förnyelsebara isoleringsmaterialen har kring 2% av marknaden. Cellulosa är det populäraste isoleringsmaterialet av de förnyelsebara. Studien visar på att byggnaden kan öka isoleringen i väggar över det befintliga med cellulosa 813mm, glasull 268mm och stenull 176mm. Isolering i tak kan ökas med 938 mm cellulosa, 319 mm glasull och 214 mm stenull. Återvinning kan möjliggöra att tilläggsisoleringen kan ökas med 103–140% jämfört med hur isoleringsmaterialen avfallshanteras i dagsläget. Resultatet kan ses som en fingervisning kring hur olika tjocklekar av isolering påverkar liknande byggnader. Ingen hänsyn tas till konstruktion och att minskat värmebehov leder till ändrade tekniska lösningar. Abstract Purpose: The construction and real estate sector are responsible for a large part of the national emissions of greenhouse gases. Study’s shows that construction and the usage phase has more or less the same climate impact. In the construction phase, most of the climate impact comes from the materials. At the same time as there is needs for more residential there is also a need for this sector to reduce its climate footprint to achieve national climate goals. More knowledge about insulation materials is needed to achieve these challenges. The purpose of insulation in buildings is to keep the heat inside and protect against the outdoor climate. Thicker insulation gives a better insulation and therefor lower demand of heating. Thicker insulation leads however to increased material usage and therefor higher environmental impact. “The purpose of this study is to clarify the environmental impact of insulation thicknesses through a lifecycle analysis. Recycling and market shares of insulation materials are analyzed as well.” Method: To reach the goal, the study uses a quantitative approach with case study, literature study and document analysis as methods. Findings: Mineral wool has at least 50% of the insulation market. The renewable materials have around 2% of the market, of these percent cellulose is the dominated insulation material. The study shows that the building in the case study can increase its insulation on the walls with cellulose 813mm, glass wool 268mm, stone wool 176mm. increased roof insulation with cellulose 938mm, glass wool 319mm, stone wool 214mm. Recycling can increase the amount of added insulation by 103-140% compared to landfill and incineration alternative. Implications: ▪ Mineral wool has a significant share of the insulation market, at the same time as cellulose only have a couple percent of the market ▪ When determine insulation thickness from an environmental perspective, the insulation material and the waste treatment methods have a considerable impact. ▪ The environmental impact of an insulation material limits the amount that should be installed in the building. ▪ The environmental impact of heating method will impact the amount of insulation that should be installed in the building Limitations: The study is only applicable for its building. The results can however be used as guidance in insulation thicknesses on similar buildings. This study does not take into consideration how increased wall and roof dimensions effects structural and decreased need on the heating system.

Lagging fires – A summary of the current knowledge Lagging fires often occur as a result of a leakage of a liquid from e.g. a pipe or a vessel to its lagging. This work highlights risks associated with this type of fires and proposes mitigative actions. A summary of the current knowledge, based on contacts with representants from the industry and on review of literature, is presented in the present work. This report is divided into the following sections: introduction (to lagging fires); different types of laggings; knowledge gathering; case studies; detection; and recommendations to mitigate and prevent lagging fires. The section dealing with knowledge gathering is based on statistics from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), experience from the industry and from literature. The case studies section presents sequencies of events and lessons learned from seven incidents. Three of the case studies occurred in Sweden, while the other four are international case studies identified in the literature. Two of the international incidents resulted in total losses while the worst incidents in Sweden caused loss of production for up to one week. The current work presents a review of lagging standards, in this work CINI was the only identified organisation having commercial standards describing how lagging fires may be prevented. The current work also presents examples on alternative, company internal, methods on how lagging fires may be mitigated. In combination with learnings from the industry, from contacts with MSB and from review of literature some indicative factors if a lagging fire will occur have been identified (e.g. type of contaminant or a relationship between flash point and auto ignition temperature). Finally, the report presents different detection methods and their pros and cons.

Syfte: Syftet var att undersöka huruvida olika isoleringsmaterial inom byggsektorn påverkar CO2-utsläppen, kostnaden och köldbryggor i småhus. Detta utfördes för att belysa vilka effekter det medföra kortsiktigt och långsiktigt för både byggföretagen samt för klimatet. Metod: Metoderna som användes var litteraturstudie, dokumentanalys och fallstudie. Resultat: Resultaten från empirin visade att isoleringsmaterialet fick relativt stora konsekvenser för de totala energiförlusterna. Detta genom att köldbryggorna och U-värdenas storlek förändras medan areor och längderna på köldbryggorna är konstanta. Skillnaderna blir tydligare ju större area huset har (inklusive antal våningar) och det ger i de flesta fall även upphov till längre köldbryggor. Resultatet visade att cellulosa hade det bästa LCC-värdet medan aerogel hade det sämsta LCC-värde, aerogel var cirka 790% värre än cellulosa. Aerogel hade lägst koldioxidutsläpp vid utsläpp från el som bedriver huset medans mineralull, cellplast, cellulosa släpper ut cirka 10% mer än aerogel. Vid isoleringsmaterialproduktion släpper aerogel mest koldioxid och cellulosan absorberar koldioxid. Konsekvenser: Isoleringsmaterialet har en stor inverkan på energiförlusterna i småhus. Det främsta skälet till att välja ett bättre isoleringsmaterial är på grund av värmekonduktivitet, då det får miljömässiga och ekonomiska konsekvenser. Lägre energiförbrukning är positivt för miljön. Begränsningar: På grund av examensarbetets omfattning begränsades undersökningen till småhus som är stationerade i Sverige. Det medförde att studien anpassades efter krav som återfinns I BBR (Boverkets Byggregler). Beräkningarna och värden för köldbryggorna är endast utförda teoretiskt, d. v. s ingen uppföljning sker eftersom tiden och resurserna inte är tillräckliga. This was due to the fact that we wanted to highlight the effects it brought in the long and short run for both the building companies but also for the environment. Method: The methods used was literature studies, document analysis and case study. Findings: The results from the empiricism showed that the insulations material had relatively large consequences for the total energy losses. This due to the thermal bridges and the U-values size change while the areas and the lengths of the thermal bridges remain constant. The differences become more distinct with larger areas on the houses (including the amount of building floors) and usually result in longer thermal bridges. The results of the empirical study showed that cellulose had the best LCC value while aerogel had the worst LCC value, aerogel was about 790% worse than cellulose. Aerogel had the best carbon dioxide emissions when emitted from electricity while mineral wool, cellular plastic, cellulose emitted about 10% more than aerogel. In insulating material production, aerogel releases most carbon dioxide and the cellulose absorb carbon dioxide. Implications: The insulation material does have a large impact on the energy transmission in houses. There is more than one reason to choose a better insulation material, mainly because of environmental and economic reasons. Less energy consumption is positive for the environment. Limitations: Due to the extent of the examination project this study was limited to houses stationed in Sweden. It resulted in the study being costumed to fit the requirements in Boverket national board of housing, building and planning. The calculations and the values of the thermal bridges are only calculated in theory. Byggbranschen utvecklas konstant, strävan efter att utveckla nya och effektivare material ärstor. Några av de viktigaste egenskaperna som byggsektorn eftersöker är hög hållfasthet, lågvärmekonduktivitet och låg miljöpåverkan.Isobetong är ett nyligen framtaget material. Det är en typ av skumbetong med egenskaper ochfunktioner som skiljer sig från traditionell skumbetong ur hänseende på hållfasthet,värmekonduktivitet och miljöpåverkan.Syftet med denna undersökning är att identifiera Isobetongens karakteristiska egenskaper ochjämföra de med egenskaper av konkurrerande material. Resultatet föreslås tydliggöramaterialets styrkor och vidare utgöra en grund för fortsatt undersökning samt främja enutökad användning. De frågor vilket undersökningen formas kring är ’Vad har materialet förmiljöpåverkan?’ och ’Hur jämför sig materialet mot mineralull och cellplast gällande funktionoch miljöpåverkan?’.Resultatet visar att miljöpåverkan av materialet Isobetong varierar från 65,5 kg CO2-ekvivalenter per kubikmeter för dess produkt med lägst densitet, upp till 230,7 kg CO2-ekvivalenter per kubikmeter för produkten med högst densitet. Beräkningarna som utförts ijämförande syfte tyder på att Isobetong i genomsnitt inte är likställd med cellplast ellermineralull inom områdena för densitet, värmekonduktivitet och miljöpåverkan. Resultatet förtryckhållfastheten av Isobetong ger ett betydligt högre värde än de övriga materialen.Slutsatsen är att relativt mot de jämförda materialen kan inte Isobetong konkurrera med varesig cellplast- eller mineralullsisoleringar då högre krav ställs på densitet, värmekonduktivitetoch miljöpåverkan. I projekt där en god tryckhållfasthet krävs har Isobetong en klar fördel., The construction industry is continuously developing, the strive to develop new and moreefficient materials is great. In the industry, some of the most sought for properties of theimproved materials are high strength, low thermal conductivity, and low environmentalimpact.Isobetong is a recently developed material. It is a variety of foam concrete with properties thatdiffer from traditional foam concrete regarding strength, thermal conductivity, andenvironmental impact.The purpose of this analysis is to identify characteristic properties of Isobetong and tocompare them to the properties of competitive materials. The results are proposed to clarifythe material’s strengths and to furthermore act as a foundation for continued research as wellas encouraging an increased usage. The questions the analysis is based on are ‘What is theenvironmental impact of the material?’ and ‘How does the material compare to mineral wooland polystyrene?’.The result displays an environmental impact of the material Isobetong to vary between 65,5kg CO2-equivalents per cubic meter for the product with the lowest density, up to 230,7 kgCO2-equivalents per cubic meter for the product with the highest density. The computationsthat have been completed for comparative purposes indicates that Isobetong on average is notequal to polystyrene or mineral wool in areas of density, thermal conductivity, orenvironmental impact. The result for the compressive strength of Isobetong yield aconsiderably higher value than the other materials.The conclusion is that relative to the compared materials is Isobetong unable to compete withneither polystyrene or mineral wool insulations when higher requirements are set for density,thermal conductivity, and environmental impact. For projects that require a notablecompressive strength does Isobetong show a clear advantage.

Med olika ISO-standarder och artiklar som bakgrund har Woolpowers sovsäckslakan Sleeping Bag Liner:s värmeresistans (isolerande förmåga) undersökts på tre olika sovsäckar. Med hjälp av en docka med termologiska egenskaper har värden för värmeresistansen tagits fram. Vidare överfördes värdet till en skala för temperatur, i vilken komfort-, övergångs- och extremtemperatur erhölls. Samtliga sovsäckar uppvisade en tydlig ökning i värmeresistansen när sovsäckslakanet användes, vilket i förlängningen betydde att temperaturgränserna också förändrades. Ett konkurrerande sovsäckslakan blev även testat. Dels för att undersöka hur Woolpower står sig mot en av de övriga producenterna på marknaden, dels för att kritiskt granska den information som förmedlas till konsumenter av produkten samt för att diskutera huruvida dem graderingarna som används idag kan förändras för att ge konsumenten tydligare information om produkten. I jämförelsen mellan Woolpower och konkurrenten visade det sig att Woolpowers hade en högre ökning av värmeresistansen i samtliga sovsäckar. Detta öppnar upp för en frågeställning, då konkurrenten påstår på sin produkt att den potentiellt ska öka sovsäckstemperaturen med upp till 15°C. Enligt föreliggande undersökningsmätningar är lakanet inte i närheten av detta. Om Woolpowers lakan hade testats med den metod som konkurrenten använt sig av, hade då resultatet visat på någonting annat? Detta öppnar upp för ett ifrågasättande av den gradering som används på sovsäckslakan idag och möjligheterna att införa en separat standard för befintliga och framtida produkter. With the help from different standards and articles, tests have been run on a sleeping bag liner from the company Woolpower, on three different sleeping bags with different grading for the temperature. Using a thermal manikin, a value for the total insulation (heat resistance) was defined, and that value was translated into different scales for temperature, including comfort-, transition- and extreme temperature limits. All the sleeping bags show a clear improvement of the insulation value when using the Woolpower liner, which means that the grading for the temperature limits also changes. A liner from a competitor company was also evaluated, not only to compare how well Woolpower´s liner holds up on the market and how well the temperature that the competing liner put on their product holds up to the value from this test, but also to open up for a discussion how the grading of the products used today can be changed to better fit its purpose. In this comparison between Woolpower and the other company’s liner, Woolpower have a higher insulation value in all the sleeping bags. These questions the reliability of the marking on the liners that are used today, since the results demonstrated in this study are far from what the product claims. If Woolpowers liner was tested with the same method, would the result be any different? It opens the possibility to introduce a separate standard to determine the heat insulation potentials of the liner so that all the producers follow the same guidelines. Betyg 2019-07-12

Purpose: There is a severe housing shortage in Sweden, with a deficiency of schools and preschools. At the same time, carbon dioxide emission is measuring higher than ever and the realization of environmental crisis is clear. The building sector is responsible a high percentage of carbon dioxide emissions. Calculation for the climate impact can be implemented through life cycle assessment (LCA), directives are requested on how to build through an LCA perspective. The study investigates modular buildings that constitute an efficient and flexible way of managing the building shortage. The aim of this research was to get answers from an ecologically sustainable perspective to what provides more advantageous to process modules when the time- limited building permit expires and a module is needed somewhere else, with or without extra isolation. Method: A quantitative methodology was used to accomplish the aim. The climate impact of four different types of lifecycles simulates by using the software Anavitor. Other methods used for data acquisition was document analysis, calculation of specific energy use and transmission loss. Findings: The results present advantageous choices for stakeholders to pick after the time-limited building permits expire and a new module is demanded at another place. The study shows that less carbon dioxide emission is produced when reusing the module rather than demolish and produce a new module. Energy savings can be made which reduces the total climate impact of the module that are additionally insulated. Implications: The conclusion the group could deduct was that the production and manufacturing stage has a significant impact on the total climate impact that a renovation and non-manufacturing scenario is always more advantageous. By adding additionell isolation savings on total carbon dioxide emission can be made despite increased material use. Limitations: The results are limited to a life cycle assessment based on a module’s envelope as the interior and technical equipment is the same for all scenarios. The study was based on a standard module in which the equipment has no effect on the results. The result was initially specific, but with the help of calculation of the breakpoint for independent transport distances, a general validity could be given. Byggnadssektorn ansvarar för en stor del av Sveriges koldioxidutsläpp. Beräkning av klimatpåverkan kan utföras genom livscykelanalyser (LCA), däremot efterfrågas direktiv på vad som bör göras vid byggnation kring ett LCA-perspektiv. Undersökningen har genomförts på en modulbyggnad som utgör ett effektivt och flexibelt sätt att hantera byggnadsbristen på. Målet med arbetet var att ur ett ekologiskt hållbart perspektiv få svar på vad som är mer fördelaktigt att behandla moduler på när det tidsbegränsade bygglovet löpt ut och en modul behövs på en annan plats, med eller utan en tilläggsisolering. Metod: För att uppnå målet med studien användes en kvantitativ undersökningsstrategi. Klimatpåverkan för fyra olika typer av livscykler simulerades i mjukvaruprogrammet Anavitor. Andra metoder som används för datainsamling var dokumentanalys, beräkningar av specifik energianvändning och transmissionsförluster genom vägg vid tilläggsisolering. Konsekvenser: Slutsatsen av arbetet är att produktions och tillverkningsstadiet har så pass stor inverkan på den totala klimatpåverkan då utfallet att renovera och spara in på en tillverkningsfas är att föredra. För att göra valet av att tilläggsisolera eller inte krävs en LCA. Den koldioxidökningen som tillkommer på grund av volymökning av en tilläggsisolering får inte överskrida den minskning som genereras av energibesparing. Begränsningar: Studien är avgränsat till livscykelanalys gjord på modulens klimatskal då den invändiga och tekniska utrustningen är densamma för alla utfall, därför kan modulen även tillhöra en annan slags funktion. Resultatet blev till en början specifikt men med hjälp av beräkning av brytpunkt för oberoende transportsträckor kunde en generell giltighet ges.

Purpose: The global concrete consumption amounts to 25 gigatons annually, making it the most widely used building material (Petek Gursel, et al. 2014). The continued increasing world population in connection with urbanization will lead to a greater demand for cement. The problem with the increased manufacturing process of cement is that carbon dioxide emissions in 2020 will account for 10-15 % of global CO2 emissions, compared with the values measured in 2016, which only reached 5-8 % (Habert & Ouellet-Plamondon, 2016). The aim of the thesis is to analyse stages in the manufacturing process of prefabricated concrete from an environmental point of view with consideration to CO2 emissions. This will later result in providing concrete improvement measures or alternatively only provide useful knowledge for the concrete industry’s future. The stages that will be analysed are transport, concrete, rebar (reinforcement) and cellular plastic production. Method: The methods chosen for the implementation of the thesis were Literature Studies and Interviews. The purpose of the literature study was to educate the authors on the subject and collect various results from current research. The interviews contributed to the necessary information to be able to carry out the analyses at work. Findings: The thesis has resulted in a total amount of CO2eq emissions in four different stages in the concrete manufacturing process. Cement proved to be the biggest contributing factor to CO2eq emissions. There are several different measures to reduce CO2eq emissions in the concrete manufacturing process. The measures discussed the most frequently concern the cement production, which is favourable for the concrete production as a whole. The discussion also highlights measures taken in action at a concrete factory level. Implications: This study shows that cement accounts for the majority of the total CO2 emissions for concrete production. Therefore, much focus placed on improving the cement production with consideration to CO2 emissions is necessary. This does not mean that less focus should aim on research for green transport, insulation production and steelmaking. All productions stages have potential for improvement. Hence, it is important to continue the research to reduce the total CO2 emissions in the production of prefabricated concrete elements. Limitations: The study was limited to the manufacturing process of prefabricated concrete. A specific project HUS F was analysed for CO2 emissions in four production stages; concrete, reinforcement, insulation materials and transport. Litteraturstudien gjordes i syfte att fördjupa författarna i ämnet samt insamling av diverse resultat från aktuell forskning. Intervjuerna som genomfördes bidrog till nödvändig information för att kunna genomföra analyserna i arbetet. Resultat: Examensarbetet har resulterat i totala CO2-utsläpp i fyra olika skeden i betongtillverkningsprocessen. Cement visade sig vara den absolut största bidragande faktorn till CO2-utsläpp. Det finns flera olika åtgärder för att minska CO2-utsläppet i betongtillverkningsprocessen. De åtgärder som diskuteras flitigast berör cementtilllverkningen vilket är gynnsamt för betongtillverkningen som helhet. Diskussionen framhäver även åtgärder som kan vidtas på en betongfabriks nivå. Konsekvenser: Det konstaterades i denna studie att cement står för majoriteten av det totala CO2-utsläppet i betongproduktionen. Därför bör mycket fokus läggas vid förbättring av cementtillverkningsprocessen med avseende på CO2-utsläpp. Detta innebär inte att mindre fokus skall läggas vid forskning för miljövänligare transport, isolering- och stålproduktion. Samtliga områden bör förbättras och potential finns definitivt att hämta vid alla produktionsskeden. Begränsningar: Studien avgränsades till tillverkningsprocessen av prefabricerad betong. Ett specifikt projekt HUS F analyserades med avseende på CO2-utsläpp i fyra tillverkningsskeden; betong, armering, cellplast samt transport.

Syfte: Syftet med arbetet var att utföra en jämförelse av olika isoleringsmaterial i en träbaserad väggkonstruktion genom LCA och LCC och att sedan skapa ett beslutsunderlag vid val av isoleringsmaterial. Tidigare forskning kring koldioxidutsläpp för olika byggmaterial finns. Däremot är det inte vanligt att dessa studeras tillsammans med ekonomiska aspekter. Målet med arbetet var att genomföra en LCA- och LCC-jämförelse av mineralull och andra typer av isoleringsmaterial i en träbaserad väggkonstruktion och genom resultatet skapa beslutsunderlag vid val av isoleringsmaterial. Detta bryts ner i tre frågeställningar: (1) Vilket isoleringsmaterial ger minst koldioxidbelastning med förutsättningen att tjockleken på isoleringsmaterialet ger samma u-värde i en väggkonstruktion? (2) Vilket isoleringsmaterial har lägst LCC med förutsättningen att tjockleken på isoleringsmaterialet ger samma u-värde i en väggkonstruktion? (3) Hur kan LCA- och LCC-resultat sammanvägas för att skapa beslutsunderlag för val av isoleringsmaterial? Metod: För att besvara ovan nämnda frågeställningar genomförs en litteraturstudie, fallstudie med livscykelanalys och livscykelkostnadsanalys samt dokumentanalys. Resultat: Fyra olika isoleringsmaterial i en träbaserad väggkonstruktion studerades med hänsyn till koldioxidutsläpp och livscykelkostnader. Materialåtgång och u-värde beräknades för väggkonstruktionen. Funktionell enhet för analyserna är 1 kvadratmeter av väggkonstruktionen med ett u-värde på först 0,164 W/m2K och sedan 0,106 W/m2K. Det material som leder till lägst koldioxidutsläpp för väggkonstruktionen är i första hand cellulosa och därefter träfiber, mineralull och sist polyuretan. Det material som leder till lägst kostnader för väggkonstruktionen är i första hand mineralull, cellulosa, träfiber och sist polyuretan. Konsekvenser: Arbetet visar att val av isoleringsmaterial kan sänka koldioxidutsläpp under produktionsfasen utan att medföra höga kostnader. Det visar även att val av isoleringsmaterial blir än mer relevant när energisnåla byggnader ska produceras där u-värde för väggkonstruktionen ligger runt 0,11 W/m2K då detta innebär större isoleringstjocklekar totalt för väggen. För att minska koldioxidutsläpp utan att nämnvärt höja kostnaden bör organiska isoleringsmaterial väljas. Begränsningar: Arbetet behandlar ej klimatpåverkan från husets energi- eller uppvärmningssystem. För att få samma förutsättningar för de valda isoleringsmaterialen måste samma u-värden i väggkonstruktionen uppnås. Arbetet avser hela livscykeln från vagga till grav i en LCA och LCC, dock har utsläpp genererade av transport utelämnats i analyserna. Enbart de termiska och miljömässiga egenskaperna hos isoleringsmaterialen kommer att beaktas. I fallstudien beaktas en träbaserad yttervägg av ett flerbostadshus med trästomme. Purpose: The aim of this thesis is to perform a comparison of different insulation materials in a wood-based wall structure through LCA and LCC analysis, and then tocreate a decision base for the selection of insulation material. Previous research oncarbon dioxide emissions for various building materials has been done. On the otherhand, it is not common for these to be studied together with economic aspects. The aimof the work is to perform an LCA and LCC comparison of mineral wool and other types of insulation material in a wood-based wall structure and through the result create decision basis in the selection of insulation material. This is investigated by three questions: (1) Which insulation material emits the lowest amount CO2-equivalents, considering that the thickness of the insulation material has the same u-value in a wall structure? (2) Which insulation material leads to lowest LCC, considering that the thickness of the insulation material gives the same u-value in a wall structure? (3) How can LCA and LCC results together create decision bases for choosing insulation materials? Method: In order to answer the above questions a literature study, case study with lifecycle analysis and life cycle cost analysis and document analysis is conducted. Findings: Four different insulation materials in a wood-based wall structure were studied concerning carbon dioxide emissions and life cycle costs. Material utilization and u-value were calculated for the wall structure. Functional unit for the analyses is 1 square meter of the wall structure with a u-value of 0.166 W/m2K and 0.107 W/m2K. The material that leads to the lowest carbon dioxide emissions for the wall structure is cellulose, wood fibre, mineral wool and lastly polyurethane. The material that leads tothe lowest cost of the wall structure is mineral wool, cellulose, wood fibre and lastly polyurethane. Implications: The work shows that the choice of insulation materials can reduce carbondioxide emissions during the production phase without incurring excessive costs. It alsoshows that the choice of insulation materials becomes even more relevant when energy efficient buildings are to be produced where the u-value of the wall structure is around 0.11 W/m2K, as this means larger insulation thicknesses in total for the wall. In orderto reduce CO2 emissions without significantly increasing costs, organic insulation materials should be chosen. Limitations: The work does not address climate impact from the house's energy or heating system. To get the same conditions for the selected insulation materials, thesame u-values in the wall structure must be achieved. The work concerns the entire lifecycle from cradle to grave in an LCA and LCC, however, emissions generated bytransport have been omitted in the analyses. Only the thermal and environmental properties of the insulation materials are treated. The case study considers a wood-based exterior wall of a multi-story building.

Byggnader står för cirka 36% av koldioxidutsläppen och 40% av energianvändningen. I Sverige står hushållen för cirka 23 % av den totala energianvändningen. Valet av isoleringsmaterial är en bidragande faktor för att kunna minska energianvändningen i hushållen samt att dämpa påverkan på miljön. Därför viktigt att välja ett isoleringsmaterial som bidrar till lägre koldioxidutsläpp, är gjort på förnyelsebara material och som går att återvinna/återanvända. Moderna Trähus är ett småhusföretag med visionen att bygga moderna trähus med så låg energianvändning och påverkan på miljön som möjligt. Den isolering som företaget använder just nu är stenull och de vill även kunna erbjuda ett miljövänligare alternativ till sina kunder. De material som jämförs med stenullen är cellulosafiber (både skivor och lösull), träfiber och linull. De aspekter som undersöks för respektive material är väggens U-värde (samma väggtjocklek), byggnadens specifika energianvändning, koldioxidutsläpp, andra miljödata samt isoleringens kostnad. Resultaten visar att alla material har samma U-värde och specifika energianvändning, medan träfiber och cellulosa har lägst koldioxidutsläpp. Kostnadsmässigt är stenullen och cellulosa – lösull billigast. Cellulosa – lösull är det bästa materialet när miljö, energi och kostnad jämförs tillsammans. Buildings account for about 36% of carbon dioxide emissions and 40% of energy use. In Sweden, households account for about 23% of total energy use. Valuation of insulation materials is a contributing factor in reducing energy consumption in households as well as dampening environmental impact. It is therefore important to choose an insulation material that contributes to lower carbon dioxide emissions, that is made of renewable materials and which can be recycled / reused. Moderna Trähus is a small house building company with the vision to build modern wooden detached houses with as low energy consumption and environmental impact as possible. The insulation the company currently uses is stone wool and they also want to offer a more environmentally friendly alternative to their customers. The materials that are compared to the stone wool are cellulose fiber (both slabs and bulks), wood fiber and flax. The aspects examined for the respective materials are the wall's U-value (same wall thickness), the building's specific energy use, carbon dioxide emissions, other environmental data and the cost of the insulation material. The results show that all materials have the same U-value and specific energy use, while wood fiber and cellulose have the lowest carbon dioxide emissions. Costwise, stone wool and cellulose are the cheapest. Cellulose are the best material when environmental-, energy- and cost aspects are compared together.

Rapportens huvudsyfte är att ta fram en isoleringskombination av högpresterande material, som ska bidra till ett förbättrat U-värde och reducerad väggtjocklek. Konstruktionen är baserad på en befintlig sandwichvägg från Strängbetong, där författarna ersatt den ursprungliga isoleringen med det utvecklade isolerskiktet för att slutligen studera väggarna med lika villkor. Den framtagna väggens isolerings- förmåga presenteras genom handberäkningar, där det erhålls U-värde och temperaturfördelningar mellan elementens olika skikt vid stationära förhållanden. Det har även utförts värmesimuleringar för att analysera samma fysikaliska faktorer dock baserat på 3D förhållanden. I samarbete med företag har flera högpresterande isoleringsmaterial valts ut att ingå i väggkonstruktionen. Genom fördjupade studier av materialens fysikaliska egenskaper kunde en komplett isoleringskombination utvecklas och fick namnet InsuFlex. InsuFlex applicerades sedan i en sandwichkonstruktion för vidare analyser och värmesimuleringar. De nya väggresultaten visade mycket goda förbättringar av den ursprungliga sandwichväggen, tack vare det utvecklade skiktet av InsuFlex. Genom utförda beräkningar kunde författarna konstatera att isoleringsförmågan förbättrats med 46,5- samt 29 %, samtidigt som tjockleken reducerats med 5,5- samt 16,5 %, i jämförelse med Strängbetongs befintliga produkt. Den nya väggen erbjuder goda förutsättningar att reducera energiförlusterna och komma närmare framtida energikrav. Isoleringsmetoden förväntas även kunna appliceras i flera olika konstruktionselement. The main objective of this report is development of an insulation-layer of high performance materials for a sandwich structure, which will contribute to an improved U-value and reduced wall thickness. The design is based on an existing sandwich wall, where the authors replaced the original insulation with the developed insulation-layer, to study the walls with equal conditions. The insulating ability is presented through calculations and thermal simulation to analyze the thermal aspects of the stationary conditions and 3D conditions. A complete insulation combination was developed through extensive studies of material’s physical properties, and named “InsuFlex”. The insulation-layer was then applied in a sandwich construction for further analysis and thermal simulations. The new design showed improvements in several areas.

In this work a study has been performed to show the different kinds of insulated balcony connections exists on the market. In the work there is also a short description of thermal bridges concerning balconies. A description of older solutions for balcony connections is given as well as a calculation of the difference in energy costs for a insulated balcony connection compared to the standard connection. The work includes a short description of the different products. After that there is a short information about their insulation properties, durability, acoustic performance, assembly, computer programme and a short analyses for each product.
