Studiens syfte är att synliggöra hur föräldrar upplever sin delaktighet i sitt barns musicerande på tvärflöjt. Studien är främst kvalitativ med pragmatismen som teoretisk utgångspunkt. I studien genomfördes och användes fyra halvstrukturerade intervjuer med föräldrar vars barn spelar tvärflöjt som underlag för analys. Studien använde sig också av en kvantitativ metod då en enkät användes för en närmare undersökning av fältet och som inspiration till intervjufrågorna. Enkäten vände sig till vårdnadshavare vars barn spelar tvärflöjt och besvarades av 64 personer. Resultatet visar att föräldrar upplever sin delaktighet i sitt barns musicerande genom att på olika sätt vara delaktig i barnets musicerande bland annat genom att visa intresse och lösa barnets problem som uppkommer i samband med musicerandet på tvärflöjt. Resultatet visar också att föräldrarna upplever utmaningar i att vara delaktig i sitt barns musicerande på tvärflöjt främst på grund av föräldrarnas musikaliska kunskaper men också tid och ork. Slutsatsen är att föräldrar upplever sin delaktighet som varierande i sitt barns musicerande men att deras attityd och uppfattning kring musik och barnets musicerande är genomgående positiv. The aim of this study is to make visible how parents experience their involvement in their kid’s flute playing. The study is a qualitative study with pragmatism as its theoretical framework. In this study four half structured interviews with parents whose kids play the flute was used as basis for the analysis. This study also used a quantitative method in the form of a survey that was used to examine the field and for inspiration for the interview questions. The survey was directed to parents whose kids play the flute and was answered by 64 parents. The result of this study shows that parents experience their involvement in their kid’s flute playing by being involved in different ways for example by showing interest and to solve their kid’s problems that arise when the kid is playing the flute. The result also shows that parents experience challenges in their involvement with their kids playing the flute mostly because of their limited musical knowledge but also because of lack of time and energy. The conclusion of this study is that parents experience their involvement in their kid’s flute playing as variated but that the parent’s attitude and perception of music and the fact that their kids are playing the flute is throughout positive.

I denna studie undersöks hur arrangering och komponering av flöjtmusik med interferenstoner kan gå till. Syftet med studien har varit att undersöka skapandeprocessen. I studien beskrivs vad interferenstoner är och hur de fungerar på tvärflöjt. Under studien skapades tre arrangemang och åtta kompositioner som är skrivna antingen för två flöjtister som spelar tillsammans eller för en sjungande flöjtist. Studien identifierar olika resurser som har använts under arrangerings-, och komponeringsprocessen och förklarar även hur de användes. I studien beskrivs också hur arrangemangen och kompositionerna har designats för att interferenstonerna ska uppmärksam- mas. This study investigates the process of arranging and composing music with difference notes for flute. The purpose of the study was to investigate the creative process. The study also describes what a difference note is and how it works on a flute. During the study three arrangements and eight compositions were created and the pieces are either for two flutists playing together or for one singing flutist. The study identifies different resources that are being used during the arranging and composing process and explains how they are being used. The study further describes how the arrangements and compositions have been designed so that the difference notes will be audible.

Denna forskningsstudie tar utgångspunkt från oviljan att öva på sitt instrument och syftet är att undersöka de tankar och känslor som uppstår vid övning. I detta fall är det intonationsövning på tvärflöjt som står i fokus. I arbetet presenteras tidigare forskning och litteratur som berör övning, motivation, intonation och intonation på tvärflöjt. Materialet som använts till forskningsstudien har samlats in genom kontinuerligt förd loggbok. I resultatet presenteras hur olika hjälpmedel, rummet som övningen sker i och mående påverkar övningen. Resultatet berör även de känslor som uppstår vid övning och hur dessa känslor förändras under en längre tid av kontinuerlig övning. In this case, the intonation practice on the flute is the focus. The work presents previous research and literature on practicing, motivation, intonation and intonation on the flute. The material used for the study has been collected through logbook. The result presents how different aids, the room in which the practice takes place and how the wellbeing affects the practice. The result is also about the emotions that arise during practice and how these feelings change over a long period of continuous practice.

Syftet med föreliggande studie är att studera hur flöjt- och oboelärare erfar fenomenet undervisningsmetodik. För att uppnå detta syfte utgår studien från följande forskningsfrågor: Hur ser oboelärare på undervisningsmetodik som redskap i sin instrumentalundervisning? Hur ser flöjtlärare på undervisningsmetodik som redskap i sin instrumentalundervisning? Vilka likheter- och/eller skillnader finns det inom undervisningsmetodiken som redskap för instrumentalundervisning på flöjt och oboe? Studien omfattar en kvalitativ intervjustudie på musik- eller kulturskolor i Sverige med tre flöjtlärare och tre oboelärare och tar avstamp i det teoretiska perspektivet fenomenologi. Forskningsmetoden för studien bottnar i semistrukturerade intervjuer som sedan transkriberats och analyserats med tematisk analys. Resultatet bärs upp av fyra teman. Dessa fyra teman är: Allmän musikdidaktik, (trä)blåsmetodik, flöjtmetodik samt oboemetodik. Det första temat präglas av övergripande lektionsstrukturer, övningar men även förhållningssätt till undervisningsmetodik. Den sammantagna slutsatsen gällande fenomenet allmän musikdidaktik är innebörden av relationsarbetet med eleven men även yttre förutsättningar som färgar undervisningsmetodiken. Det andra temat belyser träblåsmusikers gemensamma beröringspunkter om vad det innebär att spela ett blåsinstrument. Lärarna erfar fenomenet andning som en gemensam och fundamental utgångspunkt men även en gemensam uppsättning repertoar. Det tredje och fjärde temat belyser flöjtens och oboens olikheter och förutsättningar för spel. Några exempel på skillnader instrumenten emellan är oboens dubbelrör vilket är något som flöjtspelet inte har. Även om flöjt och oboe är båda blåsinstrument visar resultatet på två skilda syner på blåsteknik. Flöjtspel handlar om förmågan att släppa iväg mycket luft medan oboespel handlar om att hålla igen med luft och att stå emot det höga trycket som bildas. I det påföljande diskussionskapitlet sätts resultatet i förhållande till tidigare litteratur och forskning. The purpose of this study is to examine how flute and oboe teachers experience the phenomenon of methodology. To achieve this goal, the study is based on the following research questions: What are the oboe teachers view on methodology as tools in their instrumental education? What are the flute teachers view on methodology as a tool in their instrumental education? Which similarities and / or differences are there in the methodology as a tool for music instrument education on flute and oboe? The study is presented in a qualitative case study at music schools in Sweden with three flute teachers and three oboe teachers and is based on the theoretical perspective phenomenology. The research method for the study is based on semi structured interviews which have then been transcribed and analyzed with thematic analysis. The result is presented in four themes. These four themes are: General music didactics, (wood)wind methodology, flute methodology and oboe methodology. The first theme is characterized by general lesson structures, exercises but also the teachers approach to methodology. The overall conclusion regarding the phenomenon of general music didactics is the meaning of the relationship work with the student but also external conditions that color the methodology. The second theme highlights the common areas of woodwind musicians and what it means to play a wind instrument. The teachers experience the phenomenon of breathing as a common and fundamental starting point, but also a common set of repertoires. The third and fourth themes highlights the differences between the flute and the oboe and the conditions for play. Some examples of the differences between the instruments are the double reed of the oboe which is something that flute does not have. Although flute and oboe are both wind instruments the result shows two different visions on blowing techniques. Flute playing is about the ability to release a lot of air while oboe playing is about holding back with air and resisting the high pressure that is created. In the following discussion chapter, the result is set in relation to previous literature and research.

Vidare visar resultatet att det eleverna önskar ha mer av i musik- och kulturskolan är att få möjlighet att spela med andra i band eller orkester. Positivism was applied as a theoretical lens for the present study. A total of 97 participants ranging from 7 to 22 years of age, filled out a cross sectional websurvey. The result has been analyzed with a univariate analysis where one variable is studied at a time.The results revealed that instrument trial days and knowing someone who plays flute were the most important factors determining the student´ perference for flute playing. Furthermore, the results revealed that students requested more frequent oportunities to play with others in bands or orchestras. In the discussion, five themes are raised: gender and instrument selection, importance of social contexts, the characteristics of the instrument, the impact of role models and the importance of the teacher.

Olika musikstycken påverkar hur vi uppfattar och ser saker. Denna studie utforskar hur musikinstrument påverkar uppfattningen av figurer i en animation för att utforska hur detta spelar en roll i musiken. En kvantitativ studie utfördes där deltagarna delades in i tre grupper som såg varsin version av animationen; en med en melodi arrangerad för klarinett, en med samma melodi arrangerad för flöjt och en utan musik som fungerade som kontrollgrupp. De svarade på en enkät med motsatta adjektivpar för att gradera en av karaktärerna i animationen. Resultatet visar att valet av instrument kan påverka hur figurer uppfattas inom vissa aspekter, men det är osäkert om resultatet av denna studie är giltigt på grund av problem med studien.

Studiens syfte är att få insikt i och identifiera lärares arbete kring rytmik och hur det inkluderas i individuell tvärflöjtsundervisning på musikskolan. I bakgrundskapitlet beskrivs Dalcroze-metoden och tidigare forskning om rytmik. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt används ett designteoretiskt perspektiv där lärande och meningsskapande via semiotiska resurser som står i fokus. Studien är kvalitativ, och stimulated-recall-intervjuer används som metod. Fyra tvärflöjtslärare har videofilmats när de undervisar. Dessa videofilmer har legat till grund för intervjuerna. Intervjuerna har sedan transkriberats med fokus på de resurser och undervisningsdesigner som lärarna använder sig av i undervisningen. Resultatet visar lärarnas undervisningsdesigner, vilka bygger på deras förhållningssätt till samt genomförande och utvärdering av användningen av rytmikinspirerad undervisning. I resultatet framkommer också att lärarna använder sig av kroppsligt baserade notblad, kroppen, spelandet och talet som resurs för lärande. I diskussionen lyfts fyra övergripande mönster i lärarnas undervisning: medvetet och omedvetet arbete samt flöjtistiskt och musiskt arbete med rytmikinspirerad undervisning. The purpose of the study is to gain insight into and identify teachers' work with eurhythmics, and how it is included in individual flute lessons at the music school. The background chapter describes the Dalcroze method and previous research on eurhythmics. As a theoretical basis the design theory perspective is used, where focus on learning and meaning making through semiotic resources are in focus. The study is qualitative, and stimulated-recall interviews are used as a method. Four flute teachers have been video documented when they teach. These videos have been the basis for the interviews. The interviews have been transcribed with focus on the resources and teaching designs the teachers use in their teaching. The result shows the teachers´ teaching designs, based on their approach to, implementation and evaluation of the use of rhythmically inspired teaching. The results also show that the teachers use a bodily based sheet of music, the body, playing and speaking as learning resources. In the discussion, four overall patterns are raised in the teachers' work: aware and unaware work, as well as education that aims to learning how to play the flute and general musical knowledge learning with rhythmically inspired teaching.

Studiens syfte är att utforska en musikers kroppsspråk vid instuderingen av en orkesterstämma. Detta har observerats under instuderingen av förstaflöjtstämman i fjärde satsen av Brahms andra symfoni. Studien har sin utgångspunkt i det designteoretiska perspektivet och har genomförts med hjälp av videoobservationer under repetitionsperioden av verket. Jag har även fört loggbok under processen av självobservationen. Resultatet av studien visar att de kroppsliga resurserna kan hjälpa, men också stjälpa, den musikaliska processen och dess uttryck. I diskussionen tar jag bland annat upp hur resurserna används sett ur det designteoretiska perspektivet. The purpose of this study is to explore a musician's body language when studying an orchestral part. The observation took place during my own practice of the first flute part in the fourth movement of Brahms' second symphony and also during the rehearsal with the orchestra. The study has its basis in the perspective of design theory and I have used video observations during the rehearsal period of the work. I have also written a logbook during the process of self-observation. The result shows that the physical resources can help, but also hinder the musical process and its expression. In the end I discuss among other things how resources are used, seen from the design theory perspective.

Studiens syfte är att beskriva hur lärare i undervisningssammanhang arbetar med konstnärliga uttryck. Mitt mål med detta har varit att få ökad förståelse för hur läraren kan uppmuntra elever till att ta eget ansvar över sitt musicerande för att på så sätt se till att fler elever fortsätter spela även efter att de gått ur musikskolan. Jag har tagit del av vad två framstående flöjtister anser om ämnet, vad styrdokumenten (GY 11) lägger vikt vid samt vad av mig utvalda instrumentalpedagoger har kommit fram till angående ämnet. Jag har valt att använda mig av ett hermeneutiskt perspektiv i min studie eftersom jag vill göra en djupare analys och tolkning av den intervjuades livsvärld. Jag använde mig av så kallad halvstrukturerad intervju vilken liknar ett vardagssamtal, men har syftet att ta reda på någonting. I mitt fall ta reda på vad flöjtlärare anser att det innebär att spela med ett personligt uttryck och även vilka metoder de använder i undervisningssituationen för hjälpa sina elever att nå det personliga i musiken. Resultatet visar att informanterna tycker det är viktigt att integrera den musikaliska delen av undervisningen med de andra byggstenarna så som teknik och tonbildning. De använder sig av många olika undervisningssätt, vissa av informanterna använder sig av ungefär samma, andra är mer inriktade på enstaka metoder. Det har framkommit att ett centralt begrepp är att problematisera undervisningen, vad är det som ska läras ut till vem och på vilket sätt. The study aims to describe how teachers in the classroom work with artistic expression. My goal has been to gain an understanding of how teachers can encourage students to assume responsibility in their music in order to ensure that more students will continue playing even after their completed studies at music schools. I examined the views of two prominent flutists, what the governing documents (GY 11) emphasize, in addition to selected instrumental teachers. I have chosen to use a hermeneutical perspective in my study, due to a desire for a deeper analysis and interpretation of the informant’s professional situation. I chose the so-called half-structured interview that resembles an everyday conversation, yet has a decided purpose: in my case, to discern what flute teachers refer to in regard to playing with a personal touch, and also the methods used to help their students achieve a personal style of playing. The results demonstrate that the respondents consider it important to integrate other aspects such as technique and tone. They use various teaching methods: some informants use almost identical methods, while others are more focused on individual methods. A key concept emerges, one that problematizes teaching, what is to be taught to whom, and in what way.

Neutralsulfitkokning av björk möjliggör ett högt utbyte av hemicellulosa, vilket bidrar positivt till flutingens egenskaper och minskar vedkostnaden. Neutralsulfitkoket ska avbrytas när delignifieringen nått tillräckligt långt för att veden ska kunna defibreras skonsamt med en rimlig energiinsats, men innan nedbrytningen av hemicellulosa hunnit accelerera. Syftet med detta examensarbete var att undersöka utbytets och malningens inverkan på NSSC-massans egenskaper. En laboratoriestudie genomfördes där massan kokades till olika utbyten och maldes vid olika insatser. Resultatet av den studien användes sedan för att ställa om kokaren och raffinörerna på lämpligt sätt vid fabriksförsöken. Massaprover togs ut efter det andra kvarnsteget och skickades för analys. De mest väsentliga egenskaperna för fluting testades genom CCT (Corrugated Crush Test), CMT (Concora Medium Test) och SCT (Short Span Compression test) men övriga konventionella egenskaper testades likväl. En avgörande egenskap för fluting är också dess krypstyvhet som undersöktes på laboratorie genom isokrona kryptester. För att få en djupare förståelse för NSSC-massans egenskaper samt kokningens och malningens inverkan på dessa utfördes även fiberkaraktärisering. Resultatet visar att styrkan på NSSC-massan kan påverkas genom att variera både utbytet och effekten i raffinörerna. För att åstadkomma en signifikant styrkeökning krävs ett lågt utbyte tillsammans med en hög effekt i raffinörerna. Kraftiga ändringar av dessa parametrar leder dessvärre till att papperets egenskaper förändras i den grad att körbarheten på maskin kan påverkas. Studien visar även att fluting som uppfyller dagens riktvärden kan framställas kostnadseffektivt genom ett högt utbyte i kokaren och en hög insats i raffinörerna. Samtidigt erhålls då en ljusare massa, vilket kan vara betydande i vissa fall. Krypmätningarna visar samtidigt att malningen i positiv bemärkelse påverkar krypstyvheten medan utbytets inverkan är mer svårtolkat. Ett allt för högt utbyte verkar dock vara negativt ur krypstyvhetssynpunkt. Neutral sulphite cooking of birch enables a high yield of hemicelluloses. This contributes positively to the properties of the flute, reduces the amount of wood needed and hence the cost. The neutral sulphite cook is to be terminated when the delignification has gone sufficiently far so that the wood can be refined mercifully with a reasonable energy input, but before the delignification has gone so far that the degradation of hemicelluloses has started to accelerate. The objective with this thesis was to examine how yield and refining affects the properties of the NSSC pulp. A laboratory study was performed where the pulp was cooked to different yields and then beaten with different energy inputs. The results from this study were then used to determine how to set the boiler and the refiners appropriately in the paper mill trials. Pulp samples were collected after the second refiner and were then sent for analysis. The most important properties for flute were tested through CCT (Corrugated Crush Test), CMT (Concora Medium Test) and SCT (Short Span Compression test). More conventional properties were tested as well. Another important property for flute, the creep resistance, was tested in the laboratory through isochronous creep tests. To get a deeper understanding of the properties of NSSC-pulp, along with the effects of cooking and refining, fiber characterization was also performed.The results indicate that it is possible to affect the strength properties on the NSSC pulp by varying both the yield and the energy input in the refiners. To accomplish a large increase in strength, a relatively low yield is needed, along with increased refining. Large changes of those parameters may unfortunately lead to changes in paper properties in such a way that the runability on the paper machine is affected. The results also indicate that it is possible to manufacture flute in a more cost efficient way by lowering the H-factor in the boiler while increasing the degree of refining, still keeping the strength properties above the critical values.A pulp with a higher brightness is also acquired when running the mill this way, which can be important in some aspects. The creep studies indicate that increased refining has a positive effect on the creep resistance. It is harder to make conclusions about the impact of yield, but it seems as though all too high yields affects the creep resistance negatively.

The aim of the present study is to explore the so-called historically informed performance movement, which also is my own musical performance tradition, from a general perspective grounded in musical philosophy. The discussions concerning this performance tradition have been dominated by different subjects, such as musical works, authenticity, intention and interpretation. The study focuses on Western art music where the performance of the music, the sounding realisation, of a notated work is central. Therefore, the performance in connection with the abovementioned subjects is of prime interest. This more overarching theme gave rise to the following questions: What factors can be considered decisive for whether a performance is a historically informed performance or not? How can these factors be identified? Does this mean that there are instructions in the music that I, as a musician, must obey? What does my artistic freedom look like? Where can I find it? The path to tentative answers to these questions is taken via theoretical discussions and the application of the theory in method and analyses as well as in interpretation.The theoretical perspective of the study is based on contextual musical ontology. The scientific theoretical framework, emanating from this ontology, is formulated in the field of social constructionism.The performance can, through this perspective, be identified as an indispensable part of the musical work, which also implies that the notated work itself is not sufficient to identify the work. Further, the emphasis on the context's importance for the performance in order to allow the performance to be of the work in question implies the necessity of awareness of the context of the work. This concept is deepened in the study through the emphasis on the importance for the performance, in a broad perspective, of the historical as well as the contemporary socio-cultural context. For the work itself this means that the identity of the work is unstable, it is constantly changing, since the different performances of the work that are parts of the work can never be identical. The perspective is based on social constructivist theories about knowledge. With contextual musical ontology as a point of departure, a strategy is formulated concerning analysis and investigation of a musical work. This strategy focuses on the notation, the instrumentation, and historical performance conventions. These three parts interact with one another and in the study they are formulated as being inseparable from the performance of the work.The theoretical part of the study is followed by a case study in which a sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach is studied from the articulated theoretical perspective. The case study contains an investigative part and an interpretative part. The work's notation is always in focus in the investigative and descriptive part, with emphasis on the socio-cultural context connected to the notation. Through the sounding interpretations, the different performances, the final chapter results in a summary of the study as a whole. Syftet med föreliggande studie är att studera så kallad historiskt informerad uppförandepraxis, och därmed även min egen musikaliska inriktning, ur ett generellt musikfilosofiskt perspektiv. De olika begrepp och frågeställningar som kan sägas dominera diskussionerna kring denna framförandetradition är verk, autenticitet, intention och interpretation. I fokus för studien befinner sig musik inom den västerländska konstmusiktraditionen inom vilken framförandet av musik, den klingande realiseringen av ett noterat verk, är central. Därför står framförandet, i relation till ovan nämnda begrepp, i fokus. Detta mer övergripande tema leder fram till följande frågeställningar: Vilka faktorer kan betraktas som avgörande för att ett framförande kan betraktas som ett historiskt informerat framförande? Hur kan dessa faktorer identifieras? Innebär det att det finns instruktioner i musiken som jag som musiker måste följa? Hur ser min konstnärliga frihet ut? Var finner jag den? Vägen till tentativa svar på dessa frågor har gått via teoretiska resonemang, och applicering av teorin i såväl metod och analys som interpretation. Studiens teoretiska perspektiv och överbyggnad baseras på kontextuell musikontologi. Det vetenskapsteoretiska ramverket, utifrån denna ontologiska grund, formuleras inom ramen för den socialkonstruktionistiska tanketraditionen. Genom detta perspektiv kan framförandet av verket identifieras som en omistlig del av verket, vilket också innebär att enbart notationen inte är tillräcklig för att definiera verket. Vidare innebär teorins betoning av kontextens betydelse att ett framförande för att vara ett framförande av verket, medvetet måste förhålla sig till verkets kontext. Detta perspektiv fördjupas i studien genom att betona den socio-kulturella kontextens betydelse i ett större perspektiv, såväl den historiska som den nutida, för framförandet. För verket innebär det att dess identitet är föränderlig, då de olika framföranden som är en del av verket inte kan vara identiska. Denna syn baseras på socialkonstruktivistiska teorier om kunskapsbyggande. Med utgångspunkt i kontextuell musikontologi formuleras också en strategi för att analysera och undersöka ett verk utifrån notationen, instrumentationen och uppförandepraktiska konventioner, tre delar av verket som griper in i varandra och som konstateras vara omistliga att förhålla sig till vid ett framförande. Studiens teoretiska del åtföljs av en fallstudie där en sonat av Johann Sebastian Bach studeras utifrån det teoretiska perspektivet. Fallstudien består av en undersökande del och en tillämpande interpretativ del. För den undersökande, och i viss mån deskriptiva delen står verkets notation hela tiden i fokus, med tyngdpunkt på notationens socio-kulturella kontext. Det avslutande kapitlet resulterar, genom de klingande gestaltningarna av sonaten, i en sammanfattning av studien som helhet. Avhandlingens slutkapitel utgörs även av en CD.
