The aim of this work is the design of a current control by means of state feedback, based on linear matrix inequalities (LMI), and it is applied in a DC-DC coupled inductors Buck-Boost modular converter, which has been widely used in distributed generation systems with renewable energy sources. This method considers constraints on the location of poles defined in the complex plane called d-stability. The closed-loop control system is implemented in Matlab® Simulink and validated under different test scenarios, where better dynamic performance is obtained, its operating range is extended, with shorter settling times and a better time-response, in contrast with the classical PI control technique. Electromyography is a test widely used in the study of the electrical activity of muscles and nerves usually for medical purposes to measure the health of muscles and nerves in patients, however, the similarity of the signals generated in this study with those used in robotics in control systems, has opened the possibility of using them to bio-medical applications. This paper article presents a prototype for the control of a palletiser with one degree of freedom through EMG signals, the prototype was designed by digital electronics and allows the control of the palletiser in real time. The design is modular and consists of the following modules: acquisition and filtering; Processing and digital electronic decision system and, finally, the control-power interface that allows Human-machine interaction in a friendly way. The filtering and processing of EMG signals reduces the experimental noise by allowing a pattern to be established in the power signals. It achieves a robust control system that operates in real time by the effective value of power and in addition, the Human machine interface helps in the interpretation of control variables. Finally, the incorporation of reliable and efficient control systems based on EMG signals and digital electronics, allows exploring a viable alternative for the development of bio-medical and robotics prototypes such as the control of robotic arms in real time. Introduction--An Unmanned Aircraft UAV or UAVS, for its acronym in English, is one capable of performing a flight without the need for a pilot on board. The control techniques applied in unmanned aircraft systems are used to improve the performance and stability of these systems. Several control techniques have been created to automate systems, aiming to improve the performance of these looking for optimal performance conditions. Quadrotors are a type of unmanned aerial vehicle that is currently used due to its ease of Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL), it is an ideal system to apply control laws because of its non-linearity and its unstable behavior in the face of external disturbances, usually environmental variables. Objective--Establish the advantages of the implementation of a robust control based on linear matrix inequalities, compared to a state feedback controller implemented in a quadrotor type unmanned aerial vehicle. Methodology--Two linear control strategies were designed and implemented: control by location of poles and zeros, and control based on Linear Matrix Inequalities LMI; therefore, in this work a linear model of the quadrotor represented in state variables was used. Results--The controllers are stable against external disturbances and disturbances caused by the environment. For the Pitch and Roll angles, the set point was adjusted to 0 degrees, and for the yaw angle, the set point was adjusted to 100 degrees. This paper shows the performance of the control strategy based on LMIs, short response times and maintains an equilibrium point between -2 and 2 degrees on each axis, allowing the quadrotor to stabilize at each angle of rotation. Conclusions--The controller based on LMIs has multiple advantages compared to the state feedback control strategy, since it allows the inclusion of several controller design criteria such as: the control input, the poles location, the definition of the infinite H norm, uncertainties, and disturbances. In addition, the LMIbased controller is presented as a solution to be implemented in a real system as it significantly improved the maximum overshoot, the response to external disturbances, the response time and quadrotor stabilization in the tests carried out. In this paper, a non-linear multivariable mathematical model of a pump storage hydroelectric power plant, developed in Matlab-Simulink, is used to evaluate the performance of a Proportional Integral Derivative (pseudo derivative) controller with anti-windup, where the integral and derivative actions are of fractional order. This control is robust, maintaining its performance in the case of direct response and in the case of cross coupling response. Similarly, the advantage of using a filter to reduce the cross-coupling interaction of this system is shown. The effect of this filter, of fractional order, on the performance of the system, is shown by reducing the integral of the squared error. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Companies Code contains a specific framework applicable to groups of companies (sociedades coligadas). This framework includes several types of affiliation, which reflect the different levels of interrelation and/or subordination existing between the different corporate entities involved. Among those, the group relationship (relação de grupo) is the type that is reserved to the situations where the interrelation is more intense. In this regard, the most relevant cause for the establishment of a group relationship is the so called total control (domínio total). This article analyses some questions related to the scope of the group relationship, when such control exists on an indirect basis. In particular, we focus on questions related to the dichotomy between original / subsequent indirect control, as well as some situations of complex indirect total control (i.e. by means of a nonlinear control chain). A structure of two degrees of freedom permits uniting the controller's design so much for disturbances in the load same as for changes in the reference. In the design of a proportional integral derivative controller of two degrees of freedom (PI-2DoF) it is necessary to introduce conditions of robustness. The present paper proposes a rule of tuning that permits getting the level of robustness in a continuous interval with a smaller error than "± 0.06" of the desired value, surpassing the difficulty of the discreet margins of robustness. The rules was obtained using an adjustment of curves of the controller's optimal parameters, obtained as from the application of the differential evolution optimization's algorithm on a set of representative test's plants of industrial processes. This paper presents a robust nonlinear PI control. The dynamic balance of tradeoff between performance and robustness inside of a robustness region and to guarantee a balance's trayectory that minimize the integrated absolute error are the objectives of the design. A parabolic combined with static non linearity of dead zone and saturation is the nonlinear function used, its tuning has been formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem using global performance indices. With respect to other approaches of nonlinear PI control previously presented, the proposed tool is the first for solving the design's problem considered and is simple while increasing the performance-adjustment and the industrial applicability. A simulationt test for the complex process of mould level control in a steel continuous casting using the new robust nonlinear PI control illustrates the efficiency of this method. 11. Control Robusto de Oscilaciones en Sistemas de Potencia mediante Señales Remotas.

- Abstract
This paper shows a robust control strategy to address the inter-area oscillations in power systems using PSS's. The approach is based on the well-known Δω strategy of Kundur, and it was modified to take into account remote signals of the whole power system. The control center computes control signals for each generator in the system weighting the different measurements of each active generator. The robustness of the approach allows to face the communications delays due to remote measures. The strength of the proposed technique is validated through simulations over the Kundur two-areafour- machines test case power system, here it was used the complete model for the generators. The inter-area oscillations after a three-phase fault were successfully damped; also, the latencies which add instability in closed loop were faced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. Uncertainty on supply chains is an important factor that can influence the effectiveness of their configuration and coordination. A way to approach it in the design process of supply chains is taking into account the concept of robustness, understanding it as the preservation of certain desired characteristics in the system, in spite of the fluctuations in their components or in the environment. Objective. Evaluate the FePIA (Features, Perturbation, Impact, Analysis) procedure in the determination of the robustness in capacity planning and warehouse location problem in supply chains. Materials and methods. The FePIA procedure was evaluated by means of a multi-period mixed integer programming and of only one product model, applied on a supply chain composed of three links. Results. The application of such procedure allowed the definition of robustness requirements, performance features and perturbation parameters. It was not possible, however, to find a general relationship between the perturbation parameters and the performance features for 62% of the instances used. Therefore, it was not possible to obtain a robustness region with the original methodology. Further analysis could demonstrate that the structure of the chain is associated to that problem. Conclusions. The FePIA procedure must suffer modifications for being fully applied to the capacity planning and warehouse location problem in supply chains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The project begins with the need of the Vibration laboratory from Pontificia Bolivariana University from Bucaramanga to control the vibration sensor calibration process. The laboratory has specialized equipment and the objective is to achieve an integration through an application in LabView. The goal of a calibration process is to compare the voltage value from two vibration sensors: one sensor who will be calibrated and the second that works as a pattern. One of the biggest difficulties in the calibration of vibration sensors, is the dynamic variation from the system, each sensor implies a change in the plant due its differents weights. Therefore it was implemented a robust control, capable to control the system despite the dynamic variations from the plant. Initially different dynamic models were identified for the plant, the most critical uncertainties were discussed and finally a robust control was designed in Matlab and implemented and tuned in LabView for the desired results. Shake tables are crucial tools for studying the performance of structures under seismic actions. These devices have become an essential tool for earthquake-resistant engineering and have demonstrated to be effective for studying complex structural dynamic models. One of the most important aspects to consider during implementation of a shake table is the system control needed to reproduce accurately the seismic movements. From an extensive revision of available literature, this article examines and discusses some of the controls more used in different types of shake tables around the world. Based on the analysis of scopes, advantages and drawbacks of control systems studied, it is also indicated the controls having great feasibility to be implemented in shake tables of single and multiple degrees of freedom. - Abstract
The objective of this research work has been to design a robust digital controller in order to control the voltage of an isolated hybrid energy system. The only load of the microgrid is resistive and variable, and it is fed through an inverter and its associated LCL filter. Once the issues rose, the modeling of the plant is explained. Then, its oscillatory behavior and the dependence of this behavior with respect to the resistive load are analyzed. Afterwards, the structure and the design of the global controller which contains two loops in cascade are described. The first loop concerns the current regulation, while the second is linked to the voltage. The controllers related to these loops are designed emphasizing in their robustness and their ability to damp the closed-loop behavior. To finish, some simulations are carried out to study the dynamical behavior of the loops in regulation and tracking at different operating points. In this article a procedure is shown up for allowing the configuration of parameters of artificial neuronal network architecture of Radial Basis for failure diagnosis tasks after stablishing a logical order for their selection. Such procedure guarantees the procurance of a necessary number of hidden neurons starting from fixing the diagnosis error desired by the experts for each process, also allowing the selection of the method for esteeming the widths of the hidden neurons and the equation of distance for the propagation of the inlets vector. The procedure applies to the testing process of “Reactor Tank Constantly Agitated" searching to demonstrate its effectiveness. As a result of the realized experiments, it is confirmed that within the topology of the Radial Basis net, the calculation of the centers and widths of the hidden neurons intervene decisively in its execution, as well as the fixed-distance equation, but the election of the function of distance does not act on the selection of the method for esteeming the widths. Among the technologies for clean energy generation, wind turbines are one of the most advanced. Due to stochastic behavior of the wind, a proper control action must be exerted over these turbines in order to get a better use of the output power. A propel control action usually implies the knowledge of the system dynamics, and that is why the identification stage is also crucial. In this paper, the authors propose a robust statistics dual Kalman filter for identification of a wind generator. Although dual Kalman filter (DKF) has been used in system identification, its performance heavily depends on the absence of outliers in the measured data. However, outliers might be easily produced during the data acquisition stage. In this study, the authors show how by combining the DKF and the robust statistic Kalman filter, the problem of outliers in systems identification can be avoided. The method was implemented in Matlab R2009a®. Results for the identification of a wind generator working online are shown and compared to the performance of dual Kalman filter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes an alternative linear control technique to maximize the energy capture in a horizontal-axis wind turbine. The proposed strategy is based on Generalized Proportional Integral (GPI) controllers supported by the active disturbance rejection approach, which allows asymptotic tracking of a rotor speed reference trajectory without exact wind turbine model knowledge. The proposed methodology controls the tip-speed ratio, via the rotor angular speed, to an optimum point at which power coefficient is maximum. Several simulations are performed on a 4.8MW wind turbine benchmark model in order to validate the proposed control strategy and to compare it to a classical controller. This paper describes the automation to the process of dyeing and finishing garments jean type using GRAFCET, or SFC, as description and development language according to IEC 61131-3. The overall process is carried out using an industrial washing machine, it shows the selection of sensors and actuators that monitor the relevant process variables and the risk analysis and operability (HAZOP) to consider the possible faults in the system and necessary actions to solve or mitigate such failures. Based on the analysis, GEMMA guide and the human-machine interface design and user interaction is implemented. ANSI/VITA 40 is used for the proper implementation of colors in the HMI. The main objective of the work is to test the existence of differences in earnings between salaried jobs and self-generated jobs in the labor markets of Peru. To this purpose it uses data from household surveys from 2007 to 2011. Also it uses non-parametric and semi-parametric methods for premium estimates (propensity score matching, double difference and double difference with matching). The use of 3 different methods and the use of several datasets that combines cross-section and panel samples, provide robustness to the results. The findings suggest the existence of segmentation between these two types of jobs. The calculations were made for different population samples: national, by sex and by area of residence. At national level premiums are in the range of 35-53O/o depending on the method used. Among women and residents of rural areas the premiums are larger. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to provide evidence of the validity of the ZKPQ-50-CC in the Argentinean population. The ZKPQ-50-CC is a brief personality measure to assess Zuckerman's Alternative Five-Factor Model. This instrument was simultaneously developed in different countries and languages, which makes it of special interest to cross-cultural research. The sample consisted of 895 adults selected from the general population in the city of Mar del Plata (Argentina). Psychometric analysis included dimensional validity, reliability and differences due to gender and age. The results yielded a five-factor structure which was consistent with the model, acceptable degrees of internal consistency, and age and gender differences for the scales. Overall, the results were consistent with the original instrument, although there were some slight differences. The findings provide evidence of the validity of the ZKPQ-50-CC in a cultural context different from those in which the instrument was developed. Further psychometric research is needed to assess the validity of the questionnaire, such as its convergent validity, test-re-test reliability and robustness against social desirability bias. This study aimed to evaluate the robustness of the linear mixed model, with the Ken ward-Roger correction for degrees of freedom, when implemented in SAS PROC MIXED, using split-plot designs with small sample sizes. A Monte Carlo simulation design involving three groups and four repeated measures was used, assuming an unstructured covariance matrix to generate the data. The study variables were: sphericity, with epsilon values of 0.75 and 0.57; group sizes, equal or unequal; and shape of the distribution. As regards the latter, non-normal distributions were introduced, combining different values of kurtosis in each group. In the case of unbalanced designs, the effect of pairing (positive or negative) the degree of kurtosis with group size was also analysed. The results show that the Ken ward-Roger procedure is liberal, particularly for the interaction effect, under certain conditions in which normality is violated. The relationship between the values of kurtosis in the groups and the pairing of kurtosis with group size are found to be relevant variables to take into account when applying this procedure. In this paper we estimate a co-integrated panel for 102 countries in a time span of 1970-2004 for constructing a real exchange rate misalignment index. The question in line is if the currency regime of a country is an important factor explaining misalignment; furthermore, the question is if it's possible to distinguish what is the role played by different currency regimes in real exchange rate determination. The several specifications and test with different datasets seem to converge in several interesting aspects. In pegged regimes, we show a robust and positive correlation with over-valuations. Hence, currency regime matters and one thinks about real exchange rate misalignment. As to the floating regimes, almost all specifications shows that the relationship is negative between exchange rate over-valuations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The robustness of the Mahalanobis-Taguchi System to different arrays that could be used to discriminate variables in a study, is evaluated.. For this, different levels of fractional factorial design 29 were used, as well as all possible fractions for each level to find out if the results varied depending on the array utilized. For this analysis the Wisconsin's breast cancer data reported in a publication were used, in which, an orthogonal array L12 was employed. In this work, the analysis was performed with 29-k designs (k = 0,1,2,3,4 and 5) and all the possible fractions for each value of k generated using the software Minitab 15 and a Matlab program was generated. This article presents an evaluation of performance of several advanced controllers applied to the operational control of four degrees of freedom SCARA robot. First the dynamic model of the robot is presented. Then, several controllers are designed, beginning by classical PID controller that is not based on a mathematical model. Then, model based control approaches are analyzed, like the computed torque control, robust and predictive control, multivariable PID, and sliding control. The determination of fatty acid profiles in milk sample by gas chromatography includes various steps such as: extraction, esterification, separation, identification and quantification, each one must be optimized to achieve accurate and precise results. Robustness is one of the parameters that are required for the development of the validation protocol and indicates the sensitivity of the analytical method to minor variations and provides a reasonable indication of their reliability. The effect of seven variables in eight experiments were evaluated in accordance with the provisions Statistical Manual of the AOAC, the selected factors were: Volume of sodium methoxide (100 ± 10 mL); calcium chloride (0.2 ± 0.5g) and time (60 ± 20 min) in the derivatization procedure; injector temperature (250 ± 5°C); detector temperature (260 ± 5°C); temperature initial in the oven (50 ± 2°C) and two operators. The results of the analysis on short-chain fatty acids, medium, long, C16: 0 and C18: 1 in goat milk allowed to determine the influence of each parameter. The effects on the means showed that none of the changes made on the seven parameters studied to affected the results to be below those required acceptance limit (√2 x SD), so we can say that the method was robust to changes made operational. Despite all the efforts of more than a decade, the genetic basis of many common and complex diseases are still unknown, without demerit the remarkable progress that has been made with the linkage studies in families and association studies of candidate genes. Re-cently, development of more robust methodologies, like genome-wide associations studies (GWAs), has allowed to replicate previously reported associations and at the same time discovers new possibly associated genes. The GWAs are based on the use of a considerable number of genetic markers like SNPs or STRs which are searched in order to of associate them with the appearance or development of certain diseases. Given the large current impact of the GWAs as genetic tool in the search of associations this is a theoretical review on the design and interpretation of results and contribution of GWAs in asthma and related phenotypes. As the hypothesis of the weak efficiency of the market predicts, empirical evidence of this research supports the supposition that it is not possible to obtain significant and statistically robust economic benefits when implementing investment strategies based on 10 rules of technical analysis (rolling averages, optimised filters and eight Japanese veil strategies) in 19 Colombian shares. Unlike other similar research, this study implements the evidence of investment strategies, and not of self-correlation, and incorporates out-of-sample tests to avoid data snooping, considerations of transaction costs, and estimations of the statistical significance of the profitability of the rules with the use of the bootstrapping method. It should be noted that in some cases the rules present yields in excess of those of the passive strategy, but not in a stable or statistically significant manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The periodic nature of the fabric images allows using fast Fourier transform techniques in image processing for its characterization. Due to the repetition of patterns inside the images of textile, is possible to find a form relatively easy of description in their energy spectrum. A recent work outlines a group of geometric descriptors for the Fourier spectrum of the images; looking for this efficiency to rotation, translation and scale change invariance [1]. These descriptors showed to be very effective to represent a textile fabric and can be used to characterize the quasi periodic textures in real time and in situ non destructive techniques. Samples of textile textures are tested to this technique of parametric representation with the purpose of analyzing their robustness and reproducibility. Finally, a set of textile fabrics is subjected to this model with the aim of evaluating the possibilities to carry out classification, verification and pattern recognition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to examine an intelligent control technique to solve a problem commonly presented in industrial process control concerning the output robust regulation of a non linear plant subjected to step and impulse load disturbances.
