This study presents a sustainable solution aimed at optimizing water use in livestock production. The results presented show the efficiency in water use and the improvement in pasture performance through the implementation of an automated irrigation system in a livestock farm in Ecuador. The implementation of the system led to a notable 18.80% reduction in daily average water consumption, which represents a significant optimization of the water resource. In addition, an improvement in irrigation uniformity and forage carrying capacity of the pastures was observed. The automated irrigation system facilitated the real-time collection of moisture data and its remote visualization through a web application. Furthermore, the implementation costs of the system proved to be 2.16% more economical compared to the average of conventional commercial systems, demonstrating its profitability. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the adoption of an automated irrigation system can significantly improve water use efficiency and the carrying capacity of pastures in a livestock farm. Furthermore, it is highlighted that these types of systems are profitable and can be a sustainable solution to optimize water use in livestock production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
