Quarries are large wells or depressions in the land resulting from deep extractive activities. When these activities end, most of them are abandoned, representing a potential and/ or permanent threat to the health and physical integrity of the population. Starting from recognizing the complexity of the territory and the multidimensionality of the problem, this article proposes to develop a methodology to assess their danger, taking La Plata County as the case study. The methodology consists of two moments: a first moment of survey and identification of all the quarries present in the case study and a second moment of diagnosis, where a matrix is built to determine the hazard degree. In this way, the study intends to construct an tool for analysis that can be replicated in other regions where extractive activities are carried out, in order to prevent and mitigate their impact. National and foreign companies distributed around Huila, Benguela, Kwanza Sul, Kwanza Norte, Cunene and Namibe provinces exploit granite quarries in the Republic of Angola. The main cause effecting the environment caused by this increasingly intense mining activity is the non-existence of sustainability criteria that contribute to a rational and responsible mining operation. The purpose of this study is to establish sustainability criteria for exploiting granite quarries in Hulla province. It was showed by using a four-stage methodology: bibliographical analysis, field work, consulting to specialists and applying the Delphi method that exploiting Huila granite quarries impact vegetation, fauna, soil, surface and ground water, the atmosphere, population, economy and landscape; therefore fifteen sustainability criteria were established for the exploitation of these quarries, each criterion was characterized and their ranges were determined for qualitative and quantitative evaluation. There is no procedure for evaluating the sustainability of the extractive mining industry of construction materials in the province of Uige (Angola). The purpose of this research is to propose a system of sustainability indicators that work as an instrument measuring the sustainable development degree in the mining sector, taking into account the technical and organizational status of the quarries and the environmental, economic and social dimensions. The diagnosis in Uige mining scenarios and communities was carried out by using empirical methods such as: survey and interview and four types of indicators were created: 1) mining management, 2) economic growth, 3) compensation and 4) development, such value revealed the non-sustainability of the mining company in the province. Documentary contribution on El Salvador parish church in Caravaca which contains the Royal Stipulations of the Military Orders, news about the situation of the temple during the years previous to the beginning of the works in 1536- 1537, reports related to the development of the construction during the first years under the management of the stonemason master Martin de Homa, some evidence on winter work at quarries as well as the first testimony on the presence of Jerónimo Quijano in El Salvador church as a supervisor hired by the town council. The city of Arequipa, was honored by UNESCO as Cultural World Heritage in November 2000, in consideration of the buildings that make up the Cercado in its old neighborhoods, defined as Monumental Zone and categorized as: Religious monuments, military monuments, public monuments and domestic monuments. All of them share an element that was already used in buildings constructed by andinas societies before the arrival of the conquerors, the sillar. In this article we will see the main input of the buildings that for over 500 years is continuing to be used, acting as a key element of regional identity, and the proposal to put a value to the quarries of sillar, with a touristic thematic route that has been implemented. The aim of this paper is a comparative approach to provisioning strategies in two quarries in the microregion of Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca). The lithic context in two workshops located in Pampa Oeste Zona de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (POZAC) y Punta de la Peña Zona de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (PPZAC) is analyzed. According to systematic surveys and technical-morphological analysis of assemblages including cores and debitage, different trends in core exploitation and blank extraction are observed. This variability responds to a variety of decisions taken by individuals or groups of individuals when provisioning themselves of a specific resource, a volcanic rock suitable for stone flaking. This investigation presents a procedure the most rational method of rock excavations for quarries of construction materials in Cuba. The methods for breaking the ground were studied as well as the parameters that are taken into consideration for the selection. The investigation results provided a tree of excavability of rocky massif. The inputs were point load index and the block size. This procedure facilitates the selection of the most appropriate method, which in turn guarantees mining the quarries satisfactory in compliance with economic and sustainable criteria. The materials of construction mined out bodies are used as "sanitary" landfills or waste dump sites, thus representing an environmental issue. More than 75% of the mines in the province of Matanzas are abandoned. This situation led to this investigation. Based on the identification and validation of 16 variables and the in situ evaluation of 250 deposits, it was possible to create a data base that shows the characteristics of each of these areas. The application of the cluster analysis (Ward method) on the data allowed obtaining four groups of environmental management. Potential options of use were assigned to each group and proposals were provided for the identification of the objectives and the management programs.
