The sustainable development goals with its premise of "leaving no one behind" aim to monitor social inequalities with an emphasis on the urban-rural gap. Since 2016 in Colombia there have been "differential schemes" as a set of regulations, policies, statistical instruments and programs to promote the supply of water and sanitation in urban areas of difficult access and management, and in rural areas. However, this dichotomy does not respond to the complexity of the territories, their socio-environmental conflicts, and accelerated transformations of the diffuse urban-rural boundary. The authors note imaginaries and concepts that question the urban-rural dichotomy from the literature and present a characterization of territorial transformations that affect community water management, based on their observations and listening to testimonies. Montology is a transdisciplinary field of research committed to the sustainable development of the world's mountain regions. In this context, cities in mountains have been little investigated. The aim of this chapter is to advance a montological perspective on the study of cities in mountains. One key to understanding mountain cities is their specific geographic position within natural and cultural space and their topographic location. Related to this are factors as accessibility and the reach of central-place goods and services. Location is also linked to numerous risk factors (earthquakes, volcanic activity, mass movements, floods), which are exacerbated by climate change. There are additional societal and/or cultural challenges for the sustainable development of mountain cities (peri- and post-suburbanization, tourism, immigration, etc.). A transdisciplinary human--environment approach is needed to meet these challenges and ensure sustainability, and it involves experts, decision-makers, and the population at large. The peri-urbanization process in the Puebla Metropolitan Area--Tlaxcala, in Mexico, has included to a large extent, an irregular occupation of the land closely related to the environmental deterioration of an area of high ecological value. This article presents a study of the processes of population growth and urban expansion that have impacted on changes in land use in the northern periphery of the zmpt (by its acronym in Spanish), and as part of it, in La Malinche National Park. An analysis of the evolution of demographic behavior and urban expansion in the area was carried out, as well as the transformation of land uses by means of satellite images from different dates. The work allowed us to have the necessary social and economic panorama to quantify and establish the effects on changes in land use at the regional level and their consequences, obtaining said evaluative argument. It was possible to characterize the expansive urban process and verify that it has been the main cause of the acceleration of the phenomenon that has affected the conservation of the environment and the quality of life of the population. The exposure of human settlements to the impact of forest fires is a topic of special relevance for urban planning. We conducted a study in San José de Maipo (Chile) as an example that illustrates the level of vulnerability of houses and other buildings potentially exposed to fire emergencies. A census of houses in the study area was carried out to determine the spatial distribution of wildfire hazard. At the same time, an analysis was made of the construction standards and state of readiness of critical infrastructure. The results expressed in the mapping of the risk level indicate high values in the urban-forest interface and the urgent need to update municipal plans and ordinances, especially for the treatment of combustible plant material in areas of direct contact with houses and other buildings. This is an aspect that is repeated in practically all the municipalities of Chile and that needs to be reviewed to improve the forest fire protection plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this work has been to determine that human settlements in the Jumilla-Yecla Altiplano region of the Murcia Region can be classified as rural population groups. This question is of interest within the scope of the Territorial Ordinance Guidelines of the region. To do this, flow diagrams were devised, with conditions such as: being a population nucleus and being located in rural areas, which had to comply with the human settlements studied -exception of the archaeological sites-. Only nine elements were qualified as villages, among the forty-nine cases studied. This work has allowed a first approximation to the definition-determination of rural population in the study area. El paulatino agotamiento de la migración rural-urbana en América Latina y el Caribe conduce al creciente predominio de la migración entre ciudades, fenómeno que ha sido poco teorizado y estudiado empíricamente en la región. Por ello, este trabajo explota los microdatos censales -única fuente existente en la región para estimar la migración entre ciudades- de una decena de países para: i) estimar la evolución reciente de esta migración de acuerdo con categorías basadas en el tamaño demográfico de las ciudades (incluida una categoría residual que agrupa a los municipios sin ciudades); ii) estimar el efecto de esta migración sobre la composición por sexo, edad y nivel educativo de estas categorías de ciudades, y iii) evaluar de forma general y preliminar las relaciones bidireccionales entre las condiciones socioeconómicas de las categorías de ciudades, por un lado, y la cuantía y los efectos de la migración entre ellas, por otro lado. In Mexico urban sprawl coupled with the lack of planning has generated certainly significant regional imbalances, social inequality, exclusion, and the increasing problems of livability of urban areas, problems such as poverty, insecurity, road congestion, housing, unemployment, inequality in access to public services, air pollution, noise, landscape and urban and industrial solid waste, soil irregular occupation, vulnerability to disasters, among others. The treatment of the land problem in the context of urban planning towards improving the quality of life, demand includes elements of sustainable development This article discusses the urban problems of poverty, homelessness, illegal settlements, and municipal solid waste, since the conjugate in the territory results in a threat to the sustainability of urban areas where it grows. The aim of this paper is to identify key indicators related to the health of families in their homes and surroundings, and so, to understand the importance of inform Peruvian people about the Healthy Housing Initiative promoted by Pan American Health Organization. We have focused on health factors related to housing in different regions of Peru, taking into account the local ways of life, prioritizing the analysis on lower-income socio-economic groups within the cities, and considering that healthy housing is an important component within environmental health. The material presented is resultant of interviews with professionals with experience in the health and housing field, as well as comparing bibliographic information and news with our subjective perception of reality, aiming to reach conclusions and recommendations. Given the status of housing conditions in Peru and their impact on the health of the population, it becomes necessary to encourage the formation of a national network that may bring together various public and private institutions that have been working from different approaches in promoting the improvement of housing and environmental conditions in Peru, in order to complement their capabilities and support each other in their activities. Finally, we believe that healthy housing is a right and an obligation for people, in tune with the right for health and life and it is also a shared responsibility between local governments and the population. The built environment plays an important role in achieving a more sustainable development, specially, the urban environment, where resources and energy consumption, and wastes generated by the concentrated population are higher than the hinterland's burden capacity. The necessity of developing more sustainable human settlements was recognised as an essential goal in Habitat'96, since the unavoidable and irreversible character of the urbanization process. In this article, some new paradigms associated to sustainable development are discussed, as well as the term evolution and the principles for the ecological urban sustainability.
