MEDICAL personnel , *PSYCHOLOGICAL burnout , *HOSPITAL personnel , *MENTAL illness , *ANXIETY - Abstract
The article addresses the relationship between burnout syndrome, anxiety, and depression in healthcare workers at a hospital in Cúcuta in 2022. A study with 285 participants found that emotional exhaustion is related to the risk of anxiety and depression, while personal fulfillment acts as a protective factor. Demanding hospital environments can affect the mental health of workers, so the need for strategies to reduce risk and prevent mental illnesses is proposed. [Extracted from the article]

Objective: To consolidate the available evidence on the association between depression, anxiety or psychotic disorder in the population diagnosed with hypothyroidism, in relation to the euthyroid population. Method: Systematic review of observational studies. After an automated search in PubMed, ClinicalKey, ScienceDirect, SciELO and LILACS, data were extracted to detail the methodological characteristics of the included studies: statistical technique involved, proportion of the outcome, risk categories, estimator with a 95% CI and assessment of the risk of bias, resolving disagreements by consensus. Results: Of 2176 studies, 5 cross-sectional articles, 3 cohorts and 2 case-controls were included. Of these, 100 % assessed depression, 50 % anxiety, and none assessed psychotic disorder. Conclusions: Hypothyroidism is associated with depression and anxiety as compared to population with normal thyroid function. No psychotic disorders were demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MENTAL illness treatment , *PHYSICAL activity , *QUALITY of life , *MENTAL health , *PHYSIOLOGICAL stress - Abstract
Physical activity (PA) has been the subject of many studies, evaluating its effects on mental health (MH). Based on the available evidence, it is essential to understand the true impact of PA on SM. Although numerous studies have been carried out investigating the relationship between PA and SM, many of them have not reached definitive conclusions, which makes it necessary to continue research in this field. This article is a systematic review evaluating quality of life. 91 articles were selected and analyzed, identifying multiple advantages of physical and mental activities. In addition, positive and negative effects were evaluated, assigning them appropriate test levels. For the most part, the results obtained indicate that the impact of PA on SM tends to be more positive, and this is supported by a significant level of evidence. The studies reviewed show a direct correlation between stress and anxiety levels in the population groups examined and their physical activity and exercise habits. These results indicate that PA can be an effective treatment for mental illness. An inversely proportional relationship is clearly shown between physical activity and anxiety and stress, highlighting the reduction of the latter as a direct result of the regular practice of PA. PARENTING , *INTERNALIZING behavior , *PARENT attitudes , *CHILD development , *EXTERNALIZING behavior - Abstract
The attitudes and behaviors of parents towards raising children can be risk or protective factors and influence the presence of behavioral problems in minors. The objective of this research was to identify the relationship between internalizing and externalizing behavior problems with the parenting patterns referred to by children from fourth to sixth grade in a public primary school in the state of Tlaxcala. The study was correlational-transversal, quantitative. With a non- probabilistic, intentional sample, made up of 278 students (Mage 9.54 (SD=0.877). The Inventory of Parenting Guidelines and the Questionnaire of Internalized and Externalized Problems for Children (CPIEN) For data analysis, SPSS version 22 was used. The results showed negative correlations ranging from low to moderate between supportive discipline and disruptive behavior (r= -.30**), aggressive (r= -.19*), self-harm (r= -.31**) and depression (r= -.26**) and positive with adaptive behavior (r= .31**).In coercive discipline there was a positive correlation and moderate with depression (r= .28*).Finally, indifferent discipline showed a strong negative correlation with disruptive behavior (rs= -.56**) and another positive one with adaptive behavior (rs= .68**). It is concluded that it is essential that parents exercise a supportive parenting style to promote the optimal development of their children, likewise it is suggested to take into account other factors related to the family in future investigations. In this paper we study the levels of anxiety towards mathematics teaching in a group of Spanish students for primary education teaching through the MATAS survey. The data collected in the survey is analyzed to determine if there are significant differences between the levels of anxiety when the sample is differentiated according to three criteria: if they have taken any previous mathematics subject, if they have any previous degree in education and if they have teaching experience in mathematics. As a result, it is obtained that most of the group of students present medium or high levels of anxiety towards the teaching of mathematics and that those who have no teaching experience or no previous degree present significantly higher mean levels of anxiety. Introduction: Hopelessness is characterized as the subject's negative outlook on the future. Individuals in deprivation of liberty are predisposed to suffering and loss of hope. Objective: To identify the prevalence, level of hopelessness and the correlation with depression and anxiety in women deprived of liberty. Materials and method: Quantitative and descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted in a Correctional Facility in Brazil, with 77 women by non-probability sampling. The data collection used were: a) Sociodemographic form; b) Beck Depression Inventory (BDI); c) Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI); and d) Beck Hopelessness Inventory (BSH). Results: In the sample, 5.2% of the subjects presented hopelessness with moderate and severe levels. Higher mean scores of hopelessness were perceived in women who never studied (7.33), had no profession (5.04), no religion (7.14), and did not develop labor activities during incarceration (4.86). Higher mean scores of hopelessness were identified in women who had symptoms of depression (5.31) and anxiety (4.63). There was a positive correlation between the BHS and BDI scores. Conclusion: There was a low prevalence of hopelessness. It was associated with unfavorable socioeconomic conditions and the lack of work activities during the period of incarceration. Hopelessness correlated with depression, and people with anxiety symptoms had higher levels of hopelessness. It is suggested that hopelessness among people deprived of liberty be investigated in clinical practice and that work and educational activities be promoted during incarceration to promote hope and mental health. DIETARY patterns , *FOOD habits , *COVID-19 pandemic , *SOCIAL impact , *PROFESSIONAL sports , *HEALTH behavior - Abstract
Objective: to identify the impact of the social confinement measure decreed by the Colombian government in the face of Covid-19 on anxiety levels and eating behaviors in athletes attached to different teams in the department of Antioquia. Methodology: cross-sectional descriptive observational study in athletes with high sports achievements from Indeportes Antioquia, who were treated in the medical area between January and August 2020. Aspects of anxiety and eating behaviors, caused during the social isolation measure derived of the Covid-19 pandemic were studied. Results: the survey was answered by 150 athletes. In men, anxiety increases as the age group increases. In women, the phenomenon is opposite. For the same high anxiety rating, the percentage decreases with age. With reference to behaviors related to eating, analyzed under such a complex circumstance, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, allowed sports and health professionals to direct effective recommendations for the athletes they advise, regarding anxiety management and the control of certain negative behaviors that can affect their health and their performance. Conclusions: the results regarding anxiety coincide with current studies, in which, in general terms, the assessed populations show low levels of anxiety; this is related to a low tendency to alterations in eating behavior in the studied population. PSYCHOTHERAPY , *COVID-19 pandemic , *EMOTIONAL state , *PSYCHOLOGICAL stress , *AGE groups - Abstract
The purpose of the study was to evaluate acute emotional states in Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-experimental-cross-sectional design. 585 Mexicans between 18 and 67 years of age participated. The DASS-21 scale was used to measure the variables of stress, anxiety and depression; and a questionnaire on situations related to confinement by COVID-19. The results show that a small percentage of the sample manifested negative emotional symptoms ranging from severe to very severe, as well as fear and anguish of contagion from a relative. Similarly, significant differences were identified between men and women, and age groups. The findings show the importance of designing and implementing psychological interventions aimed at reducing negative emotions during the coronavirus pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ALCOHOL drinking , *HIGH school students , *INFORMATION & communication technologies , *TOBACCO use , *STREAMING video & television , *CELL phones , *ALCOHOL - Abstract
Objective: to identify the relationship between the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and anxiety, alcohol and tobacco consumption in high school adolescents from Puebla, Mexico. Method: descriptive correlational study, carried out with 301 adolescents from a public school in 2018. The New Addictions Detection Questionnaire and Hamilton Anxiety Scale were applied. For statistical analysis, the Kolmogorov Smirnov coefficient and Mann Whitney U, Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression. Results: the mean use of ICTs was 84.36 (SD = 15.1). Internet (M = 16.72, SD = 4.6) and cell phones (M = 15.52, SD = 5.0) were the most used. The use of ICTs and anxiety were statistically significant (F=21.719, p=.001), where the Internet and television predicted anxiety. About the use of ICTs and alcohol consumption (F = 3.745, p =.001) indicates that what this condition predicts is the use of cell phones. In the case of ICTs with tobacco use, there was no statistical significance. Conclusion: there is a relationship with the use of ICTs, anxiety and alcohol consumption in high school students in the state of Puebla. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STUDENT attitudes , *TEACHER attitudes , *LEARNING , *EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *SCIENCE education , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *ACADEMIC motivation , *TEST anxiety - Abstract
The present paper aims to analyse the effects of individual factors on student science performance in primary education. This is an ex post facto study using the TIMSS 2019 database. The sample comprised 9512 Spanish students undertaking 4th grade primary education (51.6% boys; 48.4% girls) at 535 schools. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the 20 items comprising the student questionnaire on the science teaching and learning process (KMO =.93) were performed. Four factors were identified: student attitude, anxiety and self-efficacy towards the sciences and teacher attitude. Multiple regression analysis was used to predict the influence of student factors on science performance. Outcomes show that student attitudes determine their self-efficacy and that anxiety has a negative impact on performance. Teacher attitude is the most predictive factor regarding performance. The number of books at home which, in itself, is an indicator of socioeconomic status, has a substantial effect on performance. Findings suggest the need to enhance student motivation towards science during the first years of primary education, promote the application of knowledge to solve scientific problems and conduct experiments in Science classes. CONTROL (Psychology) , *EXECUTIVE function , *RESPONSE inhibition , *GERIATRIC Depression Scale , *TRAIL Making Test - Abstract
The objective of this investigation was to explore the neuropsychological characteristics of institutionalized healthy Cuban older adults. Quantitative research was developed, with a descriptive cross-sectional design through surveys, between March and April 2021. The instruments used were Trail Making Test, Verbal Fluency Test, Modified Wisconsin Letters Test, Boston Denomination Test, Cognitive Reserve Scale, Barthel Index, Lawton and Brody Scale, IDARE, and the Geriatric Depression Scale. The sampling was non-probabilistic and intentional. The sample consisted of 21 participants. The data were processed using SPSS / Windows-25, through descriptive statistics and correlational analysis. Deficits were found in attentional and executive control, verbal fluency, and in inhibitory control and mental flexibility. Moderate levels of anxiety and absence of clinical signs of depression were found. Most of the participants were functionally independent. Significant correlations were found between the variables: depression and inhibitory control; cognitive reserve and age; cognitive reserve and verbal fluency; inhibitory control, mental flexibility, and language skills; age, years of schooling, level of education and verbal fluency. The deficits found suggest that the changes presented by the participants no longer belong to the set of manifestations of normal aging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The global alarm for the covid-19 pandemic has affected not only the physical health but also the mental health of the entire population, including young university students. Objective: To characterize the presence of anxiety (Anxiety State-AE and Anxiety trait-AR) in students of a Colombian Caribbean State University in a situation of compulsory confinement due to covid-19. Method: descriptive quantitative research and cross-sectional design, with intentional sampling. 371 students from the six Faculties of the participating university participated, men and women, with a minimum age of 16 and a maximum of 33 years, M of 18,3 years and DT of 2,1 years. The students responded to the STAI Questionnaire (State Trait Anxiety Inventory), through the Google Forms platform, which was sent to 1200 students by email, during the month of May 2020. The data was processed through the SPSSv21, they did descriptive analysis by groups and Odds Ratio (OR). Results: Anxiety levels were found to be slightly higher in EA and RA in the male sex in the very high category for both adolescents and adults. Meanwhile, in the high category, higher EA was found in the female sex in the age range of 19 years or older, and in the range of 16 to 18 years RA was slightly higher in the female sex. Likewise, adolescent females have an OR of 2,2 times more EA than adults, representing a risk to their health. Conclusions: University students present high levels of anxiety, slightly higher in adolescents than in adults, which puts their mental health at risk, therefore, intervention measures are suggested from health psychology for prevention and monitoring purposes advances through new research. YOUNG adults , *QUALITY of life , *SOCIAL pressure , *MENTAL health ,SNOWBALL sampling - Abstract
Objective: the objective of this study was to visualize the mental health impacts of young university students in Colombia, within the framework of the confinement policies taken due to the impact of the Coronavirus, from March 2020 to October 2020, who had technology-mediated education and limitations in their studies. Methodology: a self-administered application and snowball sampling of the unidimensional scale of student burnout and stress indicators was made to 528 university students of the Colombian territory, to verify the level of the syndrome and stress in the study population. Conclusions: high perceived levels of stress and anxiety derived from social distancing and the impossibility of attending educational centers were found, as well as academic difficulties originated. The students who filled out the survey stated that they felt limited and that the situation of confinement, anxiety and fear had affected their studies. The three dimensions of burnout (exhaustion, cynicism and ineffectiveness) were found to be positively and evidently related to high levels of anxiety that affected the quality of life of the young people and their mental and physical health. This population is particularly vulnerable because of their need for social interaction; some have low self-esteem and social pressure to succeed in their studies. Attention is drawn to university health systems on early warnings to avoid major difficulties in terms of mental health, so the consequences of SARS-COV-2 should be assessed in the near future and permanently. BECK Anxiety Inventory , *BECK Depression Inventory , *ANXIETY , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *MENTAL depression , *DESPAIR - Abstract
The objective of the research was to evaluate the relationship between stress levels, valence and predictability of life events in relation to the anxiety and depression index of students from a private university in northeastern Colombia. We worked under a quantitative methodology, with a non-experimental cross-sectional design and a descriptive-correlational scope. The sample was nonprobabilistic at convenience, consisting of 33.7% (n = 186) of men and 66.3% (n = 366) of women, with an average age of 18.9 years. The study variables were evaluated with the following: The Beck Depression Inventory II, the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Vital Events Questionnaire. Statistically significant correlations were found between levels of anxiety and depression with negative valence and the predictability of the event. These results support the helplessness-hopelessness theory and disagree with the existing scientific evidence on this issue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The people's mental health analysis in SARS-Cov-2 pandemic context constitutes a highly relevant challenge for current psychology. The present research had two goals, firstly to analyze the associations between the mental health continuum and symptoms of anxiety, depression and intolerance to uncertainty in Argentine adults in the COVID-19 pandemic, and secondly to compare the levels of emotional, psychological and social well-being according to psychological assistance in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study included a sample of 1120 adults between 18 and 84 years of age (Mage 37.32, SD = 14.81), 60.1% women and 39.9% men. The results reported that the associations between levels of emotional, psychological, social and total well-being and symptoms of depression and intolerance of uncertainty were negative and significant. However, the correlations with anxiety symptoms were positive and significant. Significant differences were found in the levels of emotional, psychological, social and total well-being according to attendance to psychotherapeutic treatment. In all cases, people who attended psychotherapeutic treatment showed higher levels of well-being compared to those who did not. It is concluded that people who were in the flourishing mental health category and underwent psychotherapeutic treatment showed lower indicators of depression and intolerance to uncertainty. - Abstract
Anxiety is defined as the anticipation of a future threat with a prevalence that reaches 8% in young people around the world. Objective. The purpose of this work was to identify the effects of exposure to music on anxiety in a sample of adolescents between 10 and 14 years of age of both sexes. Materials and methods. Each of the participants completed a standardized test to assess their anxiety. Prior to the treatments, the participants completed the STAI status and trait scales, then listened to sound stimuli (relaxing, activating music, or white noise) and finally completed the anxiety status scale. Results. The results indicated that the musical stimulus with activating characteristics generated an anxiogenic effect in the participants. Conclusion. These data are relevant to the field of music therapy, a discipline that uses music with therapeutic purposes and that addresses anxiety disorders in different populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To compare the levels of anxiety and stress in two population groups of adolescent women and their relation to pregnancy. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study, which included 125 pregnant adolescents treated at the Luz Castro de Gutiérrez Hospital, and 124 non-pregnant teenage students belonging to the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán school, both located in the city of Medellín (Colombia). The participants answered the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) and the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale to assess psychosocial stress. Results: The median age was 17 years (interquartile range or IQR = 2) in pregnant women and 13.5 (IQR = 2) in students. In pregnant women, the prevalence of anxiety was 68% and stress was 73.6%, while in the non-pregnant group the prevalence of anxiety was 64% (OR = 1.2. 95% CI 0.20-2.09. P = 0.5) and the stress rate was 40% (OR = 4.18; 95% CI 2.37-7.41; p = <0.01). An association was found between having a positive test for anxiety and bad family relationships, alcohol consumption and the beginning of sexual life, while there was an association between having a positive test for stress and being under 15 years old, having bad family relationships, bad relationships with a partner, consumption of alcohol, beginning of sexual life and relatives with mental illnesses. Conclusions: No higher prevalence of anxiety is found in adolescent mothers treated at the Hospital General de Medellín compared to non-pregnant girls from Colegio Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in Medellín (Colombia). A higher stress disorder was found among pregnant teens. Poor family relationships, alcohol consumption and the onset of sexual life were evidenced as associated factors, both for anxiety and for stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. University programs in the health-care field are challenging and their routines are exhausting. Therefore, they create stress and a potential negative psychological impacts on students. This study's objective was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety and depression in students in the health-care field. Methodology: A cross-sectional study applied to Medical, Nursing and Pharmaceutical Chemistry students from a Colombian university, who anonymously and voluntarily completed a form with sociodemographic data and the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale. Logistic regression was performed: anxiety or depression (dependent variables) and sociodemographic characteristics (independent variables); p < 0.05, statistically significant. Results Six hundred and ninety-seven young adults participated, whose ages ranged between 20.3±1.7. Forty-three point six percent studied Medicine, 26.2% Pharmaceutical Chemistry and 30.1% Nursing. Anxiety was identified in 49.8% (95% confidence interval:46.0-53.4) and depression in 80.3% (95% confidence interval:77.2-83.1). Studying Medicine, Nursing, being female, overweight and underweight, having previously had a psychological or psychiatric consultation, taking permanent medication and suffering from a chronic disease are all associated with a higher presence of anxiety. Being from a rural area was associated with greater depression. Discussion. The findings show a high prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression in the group of university students in the health-care field. Even though the scale that was used does not perform diagnoses, it does suggest the existence of pathological manifestations. Psychosocial factors were associated, especially in juvenile environments. Similar situations have been indicated by various authors. Conclusion. Anxiety was identified in half of the students and depression was identified in eight of every ten. Factors inherent to university life, customs, habits and recreational activities were significantly associated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Students in health sciences degrees such as nursing may experience psychological, social, physical and emotional changes, among others, due to the high burden generated by academic tasks and even more so when they are combined with nursing practicum. These changes may generate stress affecting the normal fulfillment of the professionals-in-training role. Objective: To determine academic stress in undergraduate nursing students during their nursing practicum in Montería, Colombia. Materials and Methods: A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 245 students calculated through purposive sampling. SISCO SV-21 inventory and a socio-demographic survey were applied. Results: The sample was mostly composed of women at an average age of 21 years old from urban areas classified as socioeconomic stratum 2.96.32% of participants experienced stress, classifying it as moderate stress (66.94%) and average intensity level (47.04%). The most frequent stress agent was the method of evaluation used by teachers, which generated feelings of depression and sadness. The most common strategy used was control over emotions. Discussion: A high percentage of students reported feeling stressed during their nursing practicum, which is in line with the findings available in the literature. Conclusions: It is necessary to establish intervention programs at universities focused on stress prevention and management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To carry out a systematic review of the research trend on mental disorders symptoms during the COVID -19 pandemic. Methods: Articles published between December 31, 2019 and May 3, 2020 were retrieved in Pubmed, SCOPUS, EBSCO, PsycINFO, Science Direct, Redalyc, and Web of Science, selected according to the PRISMA methodology, a total of 16 articles by ruling out duplicates or non-empirical studies. Results: Most were carried out in China, the sample size ranged between 20 and 7236 participants, mostly adolescents and adults, between 12 and 80 years old, with non-probability sampling for convenience. The most studied symptoms and disorders were anxiety (28%), depression (23%), stress (15.3%), sleep-wake disorder (9.6%) and post-traumatic stress disorder (5.7%), associated with psychoactive substance use, low academic performance, job loss, sleep quality, low self-care, and low perception of health status during the pandemic. Conclusions: The symptoms and disorders of anxiety, depression, and stress are the most frequent. Some limitations are the absence of pre-pandemic or quarantine measurement and the use of non-random sampling to generalize the results. Intervention research needs to be formulated to mitigate the psychological impact. Health systems must offer prevention and health promotion programs that consider psychosocial factors aimed at the general population, patients, and health personnel, to decrease the prevalence of these difficulties, particularly for Latin America where about scientific production is scarce.
