Traditionally, the information related to the performance of rotodynamic pumps has been provided graphically, by means of their four characteristic curves: head-capacity, efficiencycapacity, power-capacity and NPSHr-capacity. Nowadays, stimulated by the widespread use of computers, rotodynamic pump manufacturers have begun to use mathematical equations to replace the graphical form to provide information related to their pumps and as a more expeditious means of studying the hydraulic behavior of pumping systems. In this way, it is essential to define the methods for obtaining the mathematical expressions representative of the characteristic curves of the pumps, from the graphs and/or data provided by the manufacturer, since these do not provide this information in an analytical form. In this work we analize the form and the content in which was presented the information in argentine newspaper La Nación about the economic agreements between argentine state and International Monetary Fund during Frondizi's government, in a context of increased american interference in the whole region. We believe that this object of study has been little adressed in its specificity, beyond great quantity of works that adress related topics, like those refered to the history of La Nación (Sidicaro, 1993; Zimmermann, 1988) as well as authors and institutions which from diverse methodological and theoretical positionings undertake the study of economic policy from the period and relations between IMF and argentine state (Azpiazu and Kosacoff, 1985; Basualdo, 2013; Brenta, 2013; CEPAL, 1959; Dubat, 1959, IMF, 1958; Rapoport, 2001, Rock, 2006, etc.). From analizing existing ideologemas in reports elaborated by IMF and in Frondizi 's speech, We hypothesize that editorial line of La Nación, particulary in december 1958, started to delineate determinated ideological basis of the conservative economic program in argentine mass media from the second part of twentieth century. Introduction- Currently, diagnostic thermodynamic modeling in diesel engines is a widely-used tool which is based on the pressure data inside the cylinder. However, its study requires the adjustment of submodels through iterative processes that demand excessive time and high uncertainties. Among these submodels is the instantaneous volume in the combustion chamber, since the connecting rod is a highly deformable element due to its low modulus of rigidity and, therefore, this variation affects the mechanical expansion work calculated for the global energy balance. Objective- In this study, are trying to implement a methodology for the characterization of the instantaneous volume in the combustion chamber oriented to its estimation in a fast and precise way using the ANSYS® software. Methodology- The characterization of a diesel engine was performed using data of pressure measured in the cylinder corresponding to tests in drag (without combustion) for the regimes of 1000, 1700 and 2400 rpm. Results- The results obtained in the simulation and experimentally validated indicate that the proposed methodology generates homoscedasticity in the Kdef adjustment coefficient, which has a value of 0.701 for the engine under study and remains almost constant regardless of the rotation regime. Conclusions- It is also verified that a better prediction of the real volume of the combustion chamber with the developed methodology is achieved, while the proposed adjustment factor Kdef allows the adjustment of the theoretical model proposed and absorbs the uncertainties inherent to the modeling of this type of systems. Professionals of the social and environmental sciences must solve problems (answer questions) based on data sampling and analyses. Commonly, all professionals face similar challenges: they need to take decisions on a population (e.g., all the trees of a region), but only have data from a sample (some trees of that region). A key tool in this process is to propose population models for the response variable (tree growth as a function of tree age and climatic conditions) and then use model predictions to take decisions (e.g., when to cut trees according to climatic conditions). In this paper we discuss how to propose, estimate, and select models of a population based on sampling data. We put special emphasis in proposing several alternative models (hypotheses) to solve one problem (e.g., different tree growth functions for age), which must be proposed before data sampling, including a null model (tree growth does not depend on tree age or climatic conditions). Models guide us on how data must be sampled for a valid contrast (growth measurements in trees of different age and under contrasting climates). Then, the Akaike information criterion (AIC) can be employed to sort the most parsimonious models, selecting those with the best goodness of fit (likelihood) and the lowest number of parameters (model complexity). Along the text, we introduce basic notions of multimodel inference and discuss common user mistakes. We provide real examples, and share their data and the analyses code in R, a free and open source software. In addition to be useful to professionals from different sciences, we expect our paper to promote the teaching of multimodel inference in graduate courses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: We study how aggregate employment adjusted in the Chilean economy to the so called Asian Crisis. We test different hypotheses used in the public debate, although not formally tested, that try to explain the sluggish recovery of employment after the crisis. Methods: We specify and estimate a vector autoregressive model with time series for the quarterly period 1995.1-2007.4 and apply the Johansen method to identify cointegration vectors. Results: We estimate one cointegration vector that represents the labor demand function. We perform hypothesis testing on this function: zero degree homogeneity in prices; unitary product demand elasticity; structural break in the labor demand function intercept; change in the long run product demand elasticity between sub-periods; existence of adjustment costs. Conclusions: The income elasticity of demand was unstable after the crisis, although not in the sense suggested by the previous debate. The more decisive factor in the slow recovery was the prevailing labor costs of adjustment in the Chilean economy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study sought to detect the relationship between dyadic adjustment and victimization and perpetration of violence, taking into account sex, number of children and years of relationship. A demographic data form, the Suffered and Exerted Couple Violence Questionnaire, and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale were administered to an incidental non-probability sample of 120 women and 120 men from Monterrey, Mexico. Models were contrasted by path analysis. In both sexes, having fewer children predicted greater dyadic adjustment, and greater dyadic adjustment predicted lower levels of victimization and perpetration. In women, victimization and perpetration were independent, whereas in men they were related, following a recursive model of reactive or proactive violence. In men, but not in women, having more children predicted a higher perpetration level. In men years of relationship were correlated with victimization and perpetration, but did not predict violence, because these correlations were fully mediated by dyadic adjustment. It is concluded that predictors of victimization and perpetration differ between both sexes and that dyadic adjustment mediates the correlations between years of relationship, number of children, and intimate partner violence. Las personas con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA) tienen características únicas y hay una falta de conocimiento sobre cómo estas características podrían influir en sus familias y en el ajuste conductual, emocional y social de sus hermanos. El presente estudio tiene el objetivo de centrarse en los hermanos de estas personas con TEA y realizar una revisión teórica relacionada con el ajuste conductual, emocional y social de hermanos de niños con TEA. Un total de 24 artículos han sido incluidos y analizados con el fin de encontrar resultados relevantes que puedan ayudar a entender las necesidades de estos hermanos. El estudio sugiere, en ocasiones, resultados diferentes pero identifica aquellos factores de riesgo que podrían impactar en el núcleo familiar y, principalmente, en los hermanos de niños con TEA. Cause-related marketing initiatives have become a frequent strategy to enhance corporate image and increase sales, attracting consumers through collaboration with social purposes. This study analyses factors determining the success of this strategy. Our results show that organisations should collaborate with causes linked with their main activity and in which consumers feel involved. Introduction: Using Leventhal's Common Sense Model, this paper describes the representation of illness in patients with eating disorders (ED), along with its relationship with coping and adjustment Method: Participants were 98 female eating disorder patients. Mean age was 20.8 (SD=5.61). In order to measure illness representation, the subjects completed the Spanish version of the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R). Results: The most frequently experienced symptoms (identity) were "weight loss" (89.8%) and "irregularities in menstruation" (81.6%). ED patients perceived their illness as controllable, treatable, and as a chronic condition with serious consequences. Illness representation variables explained 21% of the variance of avoidance strategy. Results demonstrated that coping did not mediate the link between representation and adjustment. Conclusions: Findings indicate that illness representations of ED patients can have significant implications for their adjustment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The quality of peer relationships at school and the degree of acceptance and social rejection experienced by adolescents are key aspects of psychosocial fit and academic success in this period of life. This paper addresses in depth these issues as follows. Firstly, the role played by friends during adolescence --how they emerge and how they can be analyzed at the school level. Secondly, the different sociometric types highlighted in the literature, including their features and stability over time, are shown. Finally, the status of being rejected is examined. With regard to school rejection, on the one hand main risk factors related to the sociometric status are analyzed --socio-cognitive, family and school factors being the most important. On the other hand, the negative consequences of this social rejection are examined --leading to the development of school fit problems, both behaviorally and emotionally. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study analyses the adjustment to retirement in terms of satisfaction and psychological well-being in a sample of 270 early and on-time retirees. Three factors were taken into consideration -type of retirement (early vs on-time retirement), perception of the extent to which retirement was voluntary (voluntariness) and gender. The results show that participants who retired on-time and whose decision was taken voluntarily perceive higher levels of satisfaction with retirement and psychological well-being when compared to early retirees and to those who perceive retirement as obligatory respectively. Results also show an interaction between the three factors in the impact of retirement on satisfaction and wellbeing. Among obligatory early retired, women experience lower levels of satisfaction with retirement compared to men. However, among the obligatory on-time retirees, men perceive lower levels of satisfaction with retirement than women. Based on these findings, this study emphasizes the importance of examining and intervening in retirement fit, taking into consideration the characteristics of both gender and transition process -i.e., early vs on-time retirement and voluntary vs obligatory retirement. In this work we analyzed the existing relationships between adjustment to divorce (considered as a stress process) and different individual characteristics: demographic (time married and divorced, earning levels, married again); dependency levels (emotional and instrumental); attitudes and level of participation when deciding to divorce in a sample of divorced persons (N=40). Results show that emotional and instrumental dependency, a low educational level and unfavorable attitudes towards divorce explain difficulties in adaptation. Adjustment level is explained by age: the older the person, the bigger the difficulties in adjustment are. In this research, the influence of operations strategy on business results and the effect of business strategy on the above relationship are examined from a contingent perspective. Operations strategy is represented by means of competitive priorities and business strategy is based on Miles and Snow typology (1978). Relationships are modelled in regression equations including interaction terms in order to test the existence of a moderating effect. Data on strategies is gathered by means of a postal survey addressed to operations managers and information on firm results is drawn from secondary sources. The findings show the existence of a moderating effect of the business strategy on the relation between the operations strategy and the firm results as the effect of operations strategy on firm results is different when the firms follow a defender strategy from the effect is when they follow a prospector or analyser strategy. Specifically, in defender firms, the cost and quality priorities influence positively whereas the delivery and the flexibility priorities have a negative effect. El trabajo de campo en las asociaciones participantes ha supuesto inicialmente mayor carga laboral en el proceso de selección de los candidatos y elaboración del plan de ajuste. Ha sido necesario adaptarse a la nueva terminología, elaborar nuevos registros y aprender el manejo de la aplicación informática. Superada esta fase, el nuevo modelo basado en la CIF ha proporcionado ventajas en tres aspectos principales: 1. El ajuste entre el puesto y el candidato ofrece resultados en diferentes niveles de sensibilidad y especificidad. Permite así su uso en diferentes contextos laborales: centro ocupacional, centro especial de empleo o centro de empleo ordinario. 2. El uso del calificador DESEMPEÑO proporciona información sobre la capacidad y los factores ambientales de los que dispone en este entorno 3. El plan de apoyo para mejorar el ajuste de la persona al puesto es más variable, incluyendo aspectos de intervención sobre la capacidad y los factores de los que puede disponer la persona. Permite agrupar objetivos de varios planes de ajuste de forma sencilla y establecer programas globales de mejora de competencias. El ajuste se obtiene mediante la comparación del valor que toman las variables de una lista única que contiene principalmente categorías CIF vinculadas al empleo, pero permite además incorporar variables no CIF que enriquecen los resultados y proporcionan flexibilidad al sistema. La aportación de nuestra experiencia enriquece el proyecto, afinando las variables, mejorando los criterios de valoración y aportando nuestra experiencia en los planes de ajuste. Es un proyecto de Confederación ASPACE que tiene como principal propósito disponer de una herramienta que permita valorar de forma objetiva las características clínicas, el perfil de la discapacidad y la situación social de las personas con parálisis cerebral. Herramienta que podrá transferirse y extender su uso al conjunto de personas con discapacidad. Actualmente existe un procedimiento creado por la OMS creado para lograr esta evaluación objetiva, denominado Clasificación Internacional del Funcionamiento, de la Discapacidad y de la Salud (CIF), pero su implantación es prácticamente nula debido a su complejidad y a que no existe una herramienta común basada en dicha evaluación. Por ello, Confederación ASPACE, sirviéndose de la CIF como metodología, ha desarrollado una aplicación informática para suplir estas dificultades, de tal forma que todos los profesionales de las 86 entidades y los casi 250 centros de atención a personas con parálisis cerebral puedan realizar una descripción detallada de las características clínicas, el perfil de la discapacidad y la situación social de las personas con parálisis cerebral. Con ello se quiere conseguir que todos los profesionales utilicen un mismo lenguaje técnico y unos mismos estándares de valoración, pudiendo intercambiar información de forma objetiva y pudiendo establecer así las necesidades concretas de cada individuo y del colectivo en general. Esto supondrá un mejor desarrollo de terapias y programas a medida, perfectamente ajustados a la realidad del colectivo, mejorando así considerablemente su salud y su calidad de vida. Una de las vertientes de estudio dentro del proyecto es la aplicación de la CIF en el ámbito laboral de los centros ASPACE. Se desarrollará la descripción general del proyecto "Adaptación de la Clasificación Internacional de Funcionamiento al ámbito de la inserción socio-laboral", desarrollado en el marco de un convenio de colaboración entre Fundación ONCE y Confederación ASPACE. Se explicará la estrategia y dirección del Proyecto que desarrolla una metodología de valoración basada en la CIF en el entorno sociolaboral, proporcionando información comparativa entre los requerimientos del puesto de trabajo y el perfil de desempeño del demandante de empleo (obtenidos de la misma agrupación de categorías CIF).
