This publication guides Spanish-speaking parents in Kansas communities as they plan for the transition of young children with special needs from the Infant-Toddler Services program to Early Childhood Special Education Services and/or other community services. Information is provided on the seven-step process: (1) planning ahead; (2) the transition meeting; (3) evaluation; (4) staffing; (5) getting ready for the Individualized Education Program/Individualized Family Service Plan (IEP/IFSP) meeting; (6) participating in the IEP/IFSP meeting; and (7) putting the IEP/IFSP into action. Information in each section generally includes questions to consider, important people to contact, action steps, and a checklist. A final section summarizes what the law says about parental rights in the areas of written consent, parent participation, educational evaluation, records, confidentiality of information, and due process.
