The available taxonomic literature on the Argentinian species of Johnstonella is far from reflecting the phylogenetic relationships of the lineage as they are known today. For this reason, an updated taxonomic treatment of the genus in Argentina is reported in this contribution. As a result, a complete synonymy is provided for the accepted species, as well as morphological descriptions, geographical distribution maps, an identification key, uses, illustrations, photographs, and estimates of their conservation status. Additionally, lectotypes are designated for the names Cryptantha capituliflora var. compacta, Cryptantha hossei, Cryptantha modesta, Eritrichium falcatum, and Myosotis albida, as well as a secondstep lectotype for Eritrichium axillare. Adesmia australis (serie Frigidae), a new species from Santa Cruz province, is described and illustrated, being distinguished from its morphologically most similar relative, A. frigida, by the number and size of leaflets, flower size and isomorphic stipules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetivo: Aunque los inhibidores de la recaptación de la serotonina (IRS) están aprobados para el tratamiento del trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo (TOC), la mayoría de los pacientes con este trastorno que han recibido un ensayo adecuado con IRS continúan presentando síntomas de TOC clínicamente significativos. El propósito de este estudio era analizar los efectos de la potenciación de los IRS con la exposición y prevención de rituales, una terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC) de utilidad demostrada para el TOC. Método: Se llevó a cabo un ensayo aleatorizado y comparativo en dos consultas externas asociadas a la universidad para comparar los efectos de la potenciación de los IRS con la exposición y la prevención de rituales frente al entrenamiento en manejo del estrés, otra forma de TCC. Los participantes fueron pacientes adultos ambulatorios (n = 108) con un TOC primario y una puntuación total en la Escala de Yale-Brown para el Trastorno Obsesivo-Compulsivo = 16 a pesar de tomar una dosis terapéutica de IRS como mínimo durante 12 semanas antes de iniciar el estudio. Los participantes recibieron 17 sesiones de TCC (exposición y prevención de rituales o entrenamiento en manejo del estrés) dos veces a la semana, a la vez que recibían la terapia farmacológica con IRS. Resultados: La exposición y la prevención de rituales fueron mejores que el entrenamiento del manejo del estrés para reducir los síntomas del TOC. En la semana 8, significativamente más pacientes del grupo con exposición y prevención de rituales que del grupo con entrenamiento en manejo del estrés presentaron una reducción de por lo menos un 25 % en la gravedad de los síntomas (según las puntuaciones de la Escala de Yale- Brown para el Trastorno Obsesivo-Compulsivo) y llegaron a presentar síntomas mínimos (definidos como una puntuación = 12 en la Escala de Yale-Brown para el Trastorno Obsesivo-Compulsivo). Conclusiones: Potenciar con exposición y prevención de rituales la terapia farmacológica con IRS es una estrategia efectiva para reducir los síntomas del TOC. Sin embargo, 17 sesiones no fueron suficientes para ayudar a que la mayoría de estos pacientes llegara a presentar síntomas mínimos. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El artículo presenta las opiniones del autor sobre la educación de la paz y el apoyo psico-social otorgados a los jóvenes sirios. Entre los diversos temas tratados figuran la cohesión social entre los refugiados sirios, los problemas de comportamiento y sociales a los que se enfrentan, el empleo de refugiados y los programas de emprendimiento social iniciados para ellos.

High intellectual capacity is considered to be a differential characteristic of cognitive development, noting that early and systematic stimuli encourages its expression and advancement. It is therefore, essential for academically talented children to be given enriched educational opportunities. This research project evaluates the students perceptions in a theoretical-practical teaching methodology in a course directed at high school academic talents in the area of human morphology. The students were part of a university program for extra-curricular enrichment. At the end of the period, the students assessed the courses by means of a survey referred to: i) the course ii) the professor and iii) self-evaluation. The results taken from the comparisons of the evaluations of the students participating in the course versus the students from other courses (n=128) showed significant differences (p<0.05). The academic talent represented by this type of student, complemented with the applied work methodology, allows the students to sequentially progress according to their capacities in an appropriate work environment for their development. Throughout the last century a positive secular tendency has been identified in the physical growth in most part of the world population, specifically in children and teenagers. The situation in Chile has not differed from the universal reality, showing a rise in all age groups constituting one of the most serious problems of Chile's public health system. In light of that issue, the tendency of the nutritional state and body composition of two groups of high school students from Valparaiso, Vifia del Mar and Conc6n, V regi6n, Chile, between the periods 1984/1985 and 2009/2010 have been studied. The cohorts present significant differences with an increase in the variables of BMI (Body Mass Index) and body fat percentage (p< 0,05) in the 2009/2010 cohort. Venezuela is one of the countries in Latin America with greater incidence of Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) infection. Objective: to compare the epidemiological factors associated to HPV infection in one public and one private clinical center. Methodology: correlational search of data obtained from clinical histories. Population, 953 patients from the public hospital; out of them we took a sample of 282 HPV positive patients. From the private center, population was 372 patients and out of them a sample of 90 HPV positive patients was taken. Results: in the public center, age (mean plusmn; standard deviation) was 20.32 ± 12.77 years old and in the private center, 29.6 ± 10.96 years old. It was found a statistically significant correlation between occupation and type of clinical center (p<0.05). The age of first menstruation ranged between 14-21 years old in both centers and 45% of them had 2-4 sexual partners. Majority of patients revealed use oral contraceptives and 2.48% of them condom as contraceptive measure. Conclusion: prevention of de HPV infection should be based on education of the population about the epidemiological factors related to its transmission: involving housewives, formal workers, students and informal woman workers. In this peanut study, 51 races of cultivated peanuts are distinguished for Ecuador, of which 18 belong to Arachis hypogaea subsp. hypogaea var. hypogaea, 1 to Arachis hypogaea subsp. hypogaea var. hirsuta, 13 to Arachis hypogaea subsp. fastigiata var. fastigiata, 10 to Arachis hypogaea subsp. fastigiata var. peruviana, 9 to Arachis hypogaea subsp. fastigiata var. aequatoriana; var. aequatoriana is almost exclusive to the Republic of Ecuador, which indicates another important genocenter. Narcolepsy is an infrequent neurological disorder, included in the catalog of rare diseases. Despite the existence of precise diagnostic criteria, this entity remains underdiagnosed. It is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness associated with cataplexy; in some cases, hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations, auditory hallucinations, and/or delusional ideation may appear. The occurrence of psychotic symptoms makes differential diagnosis extremely difficult (narcolepsy, schizophrenia, or both). Furthermore, therapeutic management may be complex, since the treatment of one of the disorders may worsen the other. Here we describe the case of a patient with this rare comorbidity, which illustrates the major difficulties associated to both differential diagnosis and therapeutic management once a definitive diagnosis has been reached. Se determina el estado nutricional, composición corporal y tensión arterial (TA) asociándola a su condición física y riesgos cardiovasculares en niños y niñas de enseñanza básica de Valparaíso, Viña del Mar y Concón, V Región, Chile. Se evalúaron a 295 escolares de 6 a 12 años de edad, que asistían a colegios de los tres tipos de dependencia, realizando mediciones de peso, talla para estimar el índice de masa corporal (IMC) con el referente de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, y pliegues cutáneos de tríceps y pierna medial para evaluar el porcentaje de grasa corporal (%GC) utilizando las ecuaciones de Slaugther. La TA se evalúo dos veces en cada sujeto. Se aplicó una encuesta de condición física, calificando el total de respuestas de 0 a 10 puntos, en donde el puntaje mayor indica mejor hábito. Según IMC el 14,42% de la población se encuentra en grado de bajo peso, el 71,19% en un estado nutricional normal y un 14,57% en sobrepeso-obesidad, a diferencia del IMC en el %GC se encontró el 8% en categoría baja, 37% normal y el 54% alta (moderadamente alto-alto y muy alto). Respecto a la condición física, los puntajes se concentraron en 3,4 y 5 clasificándose en un estado malo y regular (78% de las niñas y 80% de los niños), no existiendo diferencias entre género, pero sí relacionado a una alta TA (p<0,05), con estados nutricionales de sobrepeso y obesidad. Los trastornos nutricionales de bajo peso conviven con sobrepeso y obesidad persistiendo sin distinción de género y niveles altos de TA, lo que se relaciona con una disminuida condición física de estudiantes de enseñanza básica. - [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

47 distinct landraces of Peruvian peanuts were identified and systematically described. 13 landraces belong to Arachis hypogaea ssp. hypogaea var. hypogaea, 2 to A. hypogaea ssp. hypogaea var. hirsuta, 15 to A. hypogaea ssp. fastigiata var. fastigiata, 15 to A. hypogaea ssp. fastigiata var. peruviana and 2 to A. hypogaea ssp. fatigiata var. aecuatoriana. Se analiza el grado de acuerdo entre los porcentajes de grasa corporal (%GC) estimados mediante medidas antropométricas y por bioimpedancia manual, por género y grado de adiposidad en población pediátrica. Se valora por antropometría el %GC utilizando la ecuación de Slaughter para pliegues cutáneos y por bioimpedancia manual (Omron modelo HBF-306INT®) a 321 estudiantes (160 mujeres y 161 hombres) comprendidos entre las edades de 10 a 18 años. El grado de asociación entre los métodos se midió mediante el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson (CCP). La concordancia entre métodos se analizó mediante el coeficiente de correlación intraclase (CCI) y coeficiente de correlación de concordancia de Lin (CCC), agrupando a la población por género y grado de adiposidad. El método de referencia fueron los pliegues cutáneos evaluados por la ecuación de Slaughter. En la muestra estudiada se registró grados de adiposidad óptimo y alto. La CCP entre bioempedancia y antropometría fue deO,689 lo que corresponde a moderada. Sin embargo, disminuye la CCP por género y grado de adiposidad (mujeres: óptimo 0,409 y alto 0,610; hombres: óptimo 0,335 y alto 0,507). El CCI 0,668 el que igualmente disminuye por género y grado de adiposidad (mujeres: óptimo 0,323 y alto 0,578; hombres: óptimo 0,229 y alto 0,506). El CCC en todos fue pobre (<0.90) por género y grado de adiposidad. El estudio indica discrepancias de estos dos métodos en este rango etario, lo que se acentúa por género y grado de adiposidad. Por lo tanto, no se sugiere utilizar la bioimpedancia manual como un método intercambiable con las medidas antropométricas en niños y adolescentes, pues subestima el % de GC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
