This article examines the emergence of Argentine women writers in the crime novel genre in the new millennium, such as Patricia Suárez and Florencia Etcheves. This phenomenon highlights a break from the literary machismo traditionally associated with the crime genre. One focus of this study is the portrayal of tyranny over women in the 20th and 21st centuries, revealing the ongoing issues of sexual slavery and human rights violations. Through a comparative analysis of these authors' works, it illustrates how the oppression and exploitation of women persist over time, emphasizing the victims' need for survival and the social control mechanisms that perpetuate such situations. La Varsovia and Cornelia present a universe that resonates in the present, confirming the persistence of these power systems with different actors, yet with the consistent suffering and vulnerability of women. In order for sex trafficking to exist, the so-called "client or user" has to exist because they are the ones perpetuating the exploitation circle, they are responsible of generating a demand that motivates human trafficking, which wouldn't exist without a market to "sell the commodity". The crime of human trafficking represents a serious violation of human rights: it violates the right to freedom, health, education and identity, among others. In this sense, social tolerance, by naturalizing these practices, encourages their violation. Continuing to make invisible the figure of the so-called "client or user" will mean that attention will continue to fall on the victim, stigmatizing them, discriminating against them; that different forms of exploitation are perpetuated and patriarchal stereotypes that reduce women to the place of consumer object/merchandise are promoted and reinforced. In this context, one of the fundamental duties of the therapeutic companion is to advocate for the rights of the victim and raise awareness in the community about the role that the "client" plays in this crime. This article focuses on a case study about the high rate of trafficking of girls and women in the community of Ogwa, in the state of Edo, Nigeria. The Edo state government has developed a top-down centralized approach to the prevention of sex trafficking that has proven to be ineffective. The objective of this research is to explore the perception of parents in the Ogwa community regarding existing sex trafficking prevention policies. Data was collected through interviews with 12 parents and concludes with recommendations on how to advocate for victims of violence. [Extracted from the article]

This paper, based on qualitative interviews realized between 2014 and 2022 with 36 Central American migrant women captured by drug cartels when they transited through Mexico, aims to examine the different repertories used by criminal organizations to capture, exploit, and subject the victims to a condition of sexual slavery. It is concluded that criminal groups have developed four different repertories, which aim to tame the body and mind of the slaves to achieve total submission: kidnapping, deception, recruitment in the country of origin and extortion. Inside these organizations the roles of victim and perpetrator are interchangeable, and enslaved women are not always passive victims, but some rescue themselves using both astuteness and brute force. The aim of this article is to examine the profile of the perpetrators; it is based on detailed interviews with 75 migrant women victims of sex trafficking in Mexico. The results of this study present a masculinized profile. The perpetrators who lead trafficking networks are predominantly men, while female perpetrators generally take up secondary positions and in many cases are coerced. Women in leadership positions accounted for only 5% of all cases studied. Furthermore, the acts of migrant women in secondary positions were the result of a situation of trafficking. The aim of this research is twofold: to examine the coverage of human trafficking in the digital press and the perceptions of media professionals and specialised entities regarding such news. The methodology employed is mixed and relies on the technique of content analysis of news stories between January 2019 and December 2020 to investigate how the phenomenon is addressed by digital newspapers. This is also combined with the semi-structured interview technique to identify the discourse of media professionals and the heads of specialised non-governmental organisations in relation to their assessment of the news production on trafficking in Spain. There is lack of information on trafficking of human beings, partly due to the lack of media resources to inform and investigate. The trafficking of human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation continues to dominate media coverage. Addressing the trafficking of human beings from a holistic and human rights approach, including the visibility of all forms of trafficking, as well as deepening collaboration and cooperation between the media and specialised entities, are tasks of vital importance for further progress. The objective of this article, based on qualitative interviews with 63 migrant women victims of sexual slavery in Mexico, is to examine the ties between Mexican police authorities and criminal groups that profit from sexual slavery. Data from this research reveal that some migrant women are enslaved by groups that have built networks of complicity with police authorities. Women are tortured, deprived of food, and forced to consume narcotics to be exploited relentlessly. We conclude that criminal groups with the greatest capacity to use violence and those attending the customers with the highest resources are those who have forged stronger ties with the authorities. The article "Contemporary Expressions of Slavery" reflects on the persistence of slavery in the modern world. Despite advances in the rights of various groups, such as children, women, and migrants, there are still situations that reproduce slavery or conditions that make it possible. These situations include human trafficking, work in organized crime, domestic work without rights, macho relationships, and precarious wage labor. The article highlights the need to confront economically powerful groups and make decisions to combat these slave practices. Research is presented on different forms of contemporary slavery in Mexico and other countries, addressing topics such as labor exploitation, human trafficking, sexual slavery, and the precarization of work in old age. The studies reveal the violence, injustice, and vulnerability faced by victims of these forms of slavery, as well as the complicity of institutions and society in general. The relationship between technology and slavery is also analyzed, as well as the criticism of the capitalist and neoliberal system in Ken Loach's films. The objective of these studies is to denounce and raise awareness about these issues in order to combat exploitation and injustice. [Extracted from the article]

This paper is focuse on the theoretical articulation between the pimp system and the basic structure of sexual slavery, and is the result from the research of rural pimps in Tlaxcala, Mexico. It starts with the Hegelian proposal of the master-slave dialectic to discuss with other theoretical perspectives, mainly feminist, to propose the concept of the basic structure of sexual slavery. The analysis will make it possible to identify the characteristics of the new slavery by understanding the pimping process that took place in the southern area of Tlaxcala. It is concluded that the sexual slavery system adapts to local cultural practices, such as bride theft, to transform them in benefit of the pimp system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Public controversies are an analytical opportunity to study the emergence of issues, the creation and alliance of actors, as well as the articulation of public arenas (politics, society, activism, academia, etc.). This paper analyzes how two actors in Spanish academia emerged, and how they became an expression of the polarized conflict on prostitution, sex work, and sex trafficking. Through a case study, this work traces the emergence and consolidation in the public space of the #universidadsincensura initiative and the International Academic Network for the Study of Prostitution and Pornography (Red Académica Internacional de Estudios sobre Prostitución y Pornografía, Raiepp). Methodologically, the technique of controversy mapping is applied through an analysis of the flrst phase of the controversy on Twitter with the hashtags #universidadsincensura and #universidadsinprastituáon and the monitoring of the platform's activities based on active participation in the #universidadsincensura initiative. The analysis shows that both actors emerge in line with the logics of the mediatized public space linked to a presence in media and networks. Endowed with different degrees of institutionalization, Raiepp and #universidadsincensura form the same public, that of those directly or indirectly affected by the public problem surrounding the status of prostitution, for which they seek a solution through a process of enquiry and experimentation that defines democratic participation. The purpose of this work is to analyze what is understood by human trafficking, especially that which has the purpose of sexual exploitation, in the light of Uruguayan and international regulations. In International Law a modern definition of human trafficking is found in article 3 subparagraph a of the Protocol to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children. On the other hand, in the Uruguayan legal system there are two definitions of the phenomenon. In chronological order, the first is found in the crime provided for in article 78 of Law n.° 18250 (Migration Law), while the second is inserted in article 4 of Law n.° 19643 (Law on Prevention and Combat of Trafficking in Persons. Amendments to the Penal Code). The analysis of these three definitions will allow a correct qualification of a situation of trafficking in persons. But, to understand this phenomenon, it is also necessary to distinguish it from another with similar characteristics: the illegal trafficking of migrants. Finally, jurisprudence cases are analyzed, with the aim of understanding how Uruguayan judges have applied the legal norms on this issue in specific situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The author, provincial superior of the Oblates of the Most Holy Redeemer, a Catholic congregation dedicated to prostituted women, with occasion of the presentation of the new book on S. The article analyzes the representations of space produced on human trafficking for sexual exploitation in Argentina, between 2008 and 2018. For this analysis, the ideas of Henri Lefebvre about the production of space, and specifically the concept of space representations, are taken to read some of the cartographies elaborated by state organisms and civil associations. At first, a definition of human trafficking and Lefebvre's conceptualization are briefly presented. After that, the cartographies that spatially represent the phenomenon of human trafficking on a national scale, obtained from documentary analysis, are shown to analyze the spatiality they create. Next, the anti-trafficking campaign is presented; to conclude, the link between the latter and representations of the space of human trafficking is posited, in relation to the possible geographical imaginaries that can be configured. Using a qualitative methodology that includes interviews with 15 women from Mexico and Central America, the main aim of this article is to compare the situation of migrant women who have been prostituted in Nevada in closed venues through agencies and those who did so without intermediaries. The authors conclude that the women who were transported by sex trafficking networks cannot leave the bosses, to whom they have become indebted. Paradoxically, those who entered into prostitution autonomously felt empowered by their work, since it allowed them to dedicate more time to caring for their bodies, and they earned more than at other activities. The region we denominate North America, consisting of Central America, Mexico and the United States, is one where sex trafficking has been deeply rooted. This article, based on a qualitative methodology which included in-depth interviews with 155 women from Central America, offers a comparative analysis of the characteristics of the sex trafficking suffered by migrant women in the different countries of the region. It concludes that in the case of those who travel to the United States, the victims are mainly young women who are lured by sex trafficking networks with false promises of glamorous or well-paid jobs; in Mexico many victims are kidnapped by criminal groups, and in Central America, the victims are mostly minors prostituted by people who are close to them or who are deceived by pimps. The present research is a meditation on the human trafficking, a serious infringement and a flagrant breach of the human rights. The European Directive and the Spanish legislative framework provide unifom common rules for the establishment of the infringement of huan trafficking and for the punishment of their authors. The human trafficking is an international billion dollar industry and the second most profitable undistry after the drug industry.
