Introduction. The patient care model at the Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre Hospital is based on principles of patient- and family-centered care provided by the interprofessional team. In this framework, different programs are designed and implemented to constantly improve and keep a good level of care and quality of life of the patients, within the limitations involved in hospitalization, once they have become a Best Practice Spotlight. Objective. Present the experience of the interprofessional wound rounds before and after being recognized as a Best Practice Spotlight. Summary. Before becoming a BPSO, the policy and procedure documents guiding the hospital's practices on ulcers or pressure wounds used as reference the evidence-based guidelines of the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO). However, the implementation or application of these practices had not been formalized directly at the point of patient care. This article presents the transition and the relevant aspects for making patient- and family-centered care a reality for the interprofessional team in the component of interprofessional wound rounds. Conclusions. The success in the effective implementation of the guidelines of the BPSO program has become a collective identity for the organizations that work towards the best results in healthcare organizations in national and international institutions. Introduction. It is recognized that the evidence-based nursing (EBN) contributed to enhancing the quality of care and that there are organizations such as the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) that have developed guides on clinical practice and methodological strategies for their implementation. This article describes the experience and reflections on the implementation process of RNAO's EBN guides, focusing on the sustainability and adhesion results of three guides implemented in a tertiary institution. Reflection topics. RNAO has created an implementation tool according to the knowledge-to-action process model which consists of six phases: problem identification, local context adaptation, assessment of facilitating agents and of obstacles for the use of knowledge, adjustment, deployment of interventions / implementation strategies, monitoring, evaluation and sustainability. All these phases were advanced to initially implement three guides ("Assessing and managing pain", "Preventing falls and injuries from falls" and "Assessing skin lesions risk due to pressure") at a tertiary institution. The periodic audit and verification of the strategies implemented promotes compliance by the service personnel as regards institutional goals and the sustainability of the change achieved. Introduction: failure to thrive is identified in children with significantly lower growth than their peers. Objective: to determine the predictive risk factors of failure to thrive in low birth weight infants discharged from the skin to skin care during the first year of life. Methods: an analytical observational study was conducted in the skin to skin care of the “Mariana Grajales” Obstetrics and Gynecological Hospital, in Santa Clara, during 2014 and 2015. The population of newborns with birth weight less than 2 000 grams that was attended in that room and follow up consultation until one year of life (120 patients), was studied. Results: Fifty-four patients with failure to thrive, 45% of the total cases were studied. Birth weight between 1 500 and 2 000 grams predominated significantly in 48.1% of children with reduction. Breastfeeding turned out to be a factor that was significantly associated with failure to thrive. Conclusions: weight and height according to age in the first trimester were the predictive factors of failure to thrive in the infants were examined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: ICT is a global phenomenon. With its use, Nursing makes viable actions of prevention and care of skin lesions related to dependence. These informative technological tools, allow to empower the patient, his caregiver and the health team. Objective: To implementation of a weblog for the prevention, basic and advanced care of people with skin lesions. The tool will provide information based on the best scientific evidence available. Results: Positioning of the Pielarte UN weblog as a care information tool on the Wordpress platform, through relevant dissemination in different academic events. Conclusions: ICT is a useful strategy to complement Nursing interventions in the field of information to patients, caregivers and professionals in order to prevent skin lesions related to care and dependence. Objective: to review commercial products with vegetal ingredients that are used in personal hygiene and cosmetics of daily use. Collect, in the form of a catalog, botanical and pharmaceutical considerations of these extracts.Method: a field work was carried out during six months, visiting the areas of hygiene and cosmetics of four pharmacies and of three large commercial areas of Seville. All the products in which a plant name appeared appeared: used the necessary bibliography obtained through databases: Scopus, Web Of Sci-ence.Results and discussion: we found extracts from 129 different plants distributed throughout the plant kingdom (except for bryophytes). Of these, 116 are seed plants, distributed in 59 different families, being the most important: Asteraceae, Rosaceae, Lamiaceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, Rutaceae and Sapindaceae. 42% of the plants are herbaceous, the rest are woody and some thallus. Their origins can be related to the agricultural areas tra-ditionally cultivated by man, such as the Mediterranean, Central Asia, India, Southeast Asia, China and Japan. The most used or-gans in the elaboration of these products are: seeds, fruits, flowers (followed by the leaves).The most abundant secondary metabolites are: flavonoids (quer-cetin, kaempferol, hesperidin), vitamins (C), carbohydrates (car-rageenans and fuciodans) and lipids (mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids). The main uses are: antioxidant power, aromas and fragrances, nutrients and skin moisturizers, photoprotective effect, hair care and anti-cellulite.Conclusion: The vegetable sample that has been found may be representative of the botanical species that appear in cosmetics and skin products, and everyday products of Spain. Introduction: For a long time, the importance of risk assessment as a strategy to prevent the development of pressure ulcers (PU) has been recognized, that is why there are clinical practice guidelines that are characterized by collecting the best available evidence for this type of recommendation, among them can be found the risk assessment and pressure ulcer prevention guidelines from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO). Pressure ulcers are a problem during the hospital care process because they affect and deteriorate the state of health, quality of life and family functionality, without forgetting the economic and legal repercussions for medical institutions. Objective: To describe the experience in the implementation of the RNAO nursing best practice guidelines in two hospitalization services, and another one with an adult in the intensive care unit from 2013 to 2015. Methodology: A prospective descriptive study was carried out about the implementation of risk assessment and prevention of pressure ulcers guidelines by RNAO in two hospitalization services, and another one with an adult in the intensive care unit which was organized in two phases a) Preparation phase: agreement, selection and training; b) Implementation phase: audit and follow-up. Results: For the risk assessment and prevention of pressure ulcer guidelines, a population of 16,264 inpatients were assessed, from which 6,712 (41%) were classified, during their admission, as having a risk to develop PU; 5,196 (77%) had a supportive surface area, and a total of 250 (4%) patients developed stage 2 PU, showing a gradual decreasing rate in prevalence per year. The staff compliance adherence with the recommendations of the guidelines was 91%. The diagnosis of food allergy requires a proper anamnesis and diagnostic testing with skin prick tests with fresh foods and/or standardized allergen, or specific IgE tests. The risk of systemic reactions is of 15-23 per 100,000 skin tests performed by prick method, specifically anaphylaxis at 0.02%. This paper reports the case of four patients, who while performing prick to prick test with fresh food presented anaphylactic reaction. Implicated foods were fruits of the Rosaceae, Anacardiaceae and Caricaceae families. The severity of anaphylaxis was: two patients with grade 4, one patient grade 2 and one grade 3, all with appropriate response to drug treatment. The risk factors identified were: female sex, personal history of atopy, previous systemic reaction to Hymenoptera venom, prior anaphylaxis to prick tests to aeroallergens. We found that a history of positive skin test for Betulla v, can be a risk factor for anaphylaxis in patients with oral syndrome. During testing prick to prick with food anaphylaxis can occur, so it should be made with aerial red team on hand. The history of positivity Betulla v is an additional risk factor in these patients. Background: For the etiological diagnosis of allergic respiratory diseases skin tests or specific serum IgE determination are used. Objective: To determine the correlation between the extent of reactivity to cutaneous prick tests and the levels of pollen specific serum IgE in patients with respiratory allergy. Patients and methods: A prolective, descriptive and transversal study was done with patients of both genders, aged 2 to 60 years, who attended for the first time at the service of Allergy and Clinical Immunology of University Hospital of Puebla, Mexico, with presumptive diagnosis of respiratory allergy. All patients underwent clinical history, skin prick tests with standardized allergenic extracts and quantification of pollen specific serum IgE by chemiluminescence method. We estimated the correlation index r using the statistical method Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient; a value r equal to or higher than 0.70 was considered a significant relationship or a high correlation. Results: Nine-one patients were included, of whom 58.2% were female. The diagnoses were: allergic rhinitis (79.1%), asthma and allergic rhinitis (16.5%) and only asthma (4.4%). Only significant correlation was found in patients with allergic rhinitis for Rumex crispus (r = 0.702) and in patients with asthma and rhinitis for Ambrosia trifida (r = 1). Conclusion: Only for Rumex crispus and Ambrosia trifida, the skin prick tests or the determination of specific serum IgE levels are comparable diagnostic methods of allergic respiratory diseases. Pityriasis alba is a relatively common condition characterized by hypopigmented plaques that appear most frequently on the faces of preadolescent children. It is a benign cosmetic defect that is more prominent, and therefore more problematic, for dark-skinned persons. The aim of this study is to discover knowledge that young people have in traditional care and whether transmission occurs equally among men and women. This paper assesses the patterns of transmission through a qualitative study with a young group of Villena (Alicante). Home-use light based treatments have been documented since 2003 and a number of home-use devices for hair removal and skin rejuvenation have been launched recently in Europe. Several safety and efficacy studies have also appeared in international journals confirming meaningful hair reduction figures and relatively few side effects but some are still inferior to professionally delivered treatments as they fail to deliver the parameters that they claim. Some home-use products are ineffective and some may not be safe. Other devices are not suitable for all skin types and FDA marketing clearances do not so far allow use on the face and neck. In the absence of adequate international standards we should scrutinise the available published clinical studies and compare claims made by manufacturers with objective industry reports measuring the parameters of these devices. Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES) is characterized by recurrent skin and pulmonary infections (mainly bacterial), eczematous dermatitis and elevated serum lgE levels. Associated abnormalities in some patients include coarse facial features, failure or delay of shedding of primary teeth, recurrent fractures, hyperextensible joints, and scoliosis. Laboratory abnormalities include elevated total serum IgE levels, typically ranging from 1000 to greater than 50,000 IU/mL and variable eosinophilia. The diagnosis of HIES is based upon the presence of suggestive clinical and laboratory findings.
