In Spain there is a high incidence of in-work poverty, which has not changed much after the so-called Great Recession, despite its strong impact on the economy and the labour market. The first objective of this article is to analyse the evolution of poverty during the economic cycle between the previous crisis and the period immediately prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, using indicators with a poverty line anchored at the beginning of that period. This addresses the relative nature of the official indicator, which is calculated for each year, preventing it from capturing changes in the incidence of poverty over time. A second objective is to determine which dimensions are most relevant for in-work poverty and its evolution. Thus, in-work poverty is conceptualised as a phenomenon composed of an individual and a household reality, distinguishing between individual poverty (low-pay situations), household poverty (coming from in-work poverty statistics), and severe poverty (the conjunction of family poverty and low pay). In addition, the last purpose is to analyse the influence of economic cycles, both on the weight of each of the types of in-work poverty and on the factors that explain them, exploring which groups suffered most from the Great Recession and whether this was a temporary situation. Our findings were mainly threefold. First, in 2019, just before the COVID crisis, in-work poverty rates had not recovered from the previous crisis, especially in the case of severe poverty. Second, individual in-work poverty declines during the crisis, associated with an increase in the overall unemployment rate and a parallel increase in severe poverty, but partially recovers in 2019. Third, the most severe type of in-work poverty, where the individual and household dimension converge, has similar characteristics to household in-work poverty, mainly influence by the presence of children and single-parent families. Family functionality is the one that manages to conceive the general progress of each of its members; as well as a state of health, protection, and affectivity; which is the reflection of communication, cohesion, and adaptability. Family is conceived as that space of protection and development. The purpose of this study was to describe family goals from the individual perspective in households with different perceptions of household functionality in Bucaramanga and the Metropolitan area, by means of a qualitative study with a methodological design of interpretative phenomenology. According to the results, in relation to short-term goals, families want to pay off their debt, to improve their income, and in the immaterial goals, participants want to improve communication with their family members, to be more united. In the long-term, as for material goals, they want to have their own house, and in the non-material goals, they want to create a business, see their children united, share more time, and be happy. SINGLE-parent families , *SOCIAL science research , *THEORY of knowledge , *FAMILIES , *IMPERIALISM , *DELIBERATION , *ONTOLOGY , *DECOLONIZATION - Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present the epistemological, ontological, and methodological deliberations that emerged during the development of the doctoral research titled "Configuration of Affective Practices and Knowledge in Single-Parent Families in the City of Bogotá, Colombia." These deliberations arise from the decolonial perspective adopted in the study. They address, on one hand, the questioning of the exclusion of emotions in discourses anchored in this perspective, and on the other hand, the subalternization of a single population group, and the fragmentation of being maintained by some decolonial understandings deriving from it. These deliberations drive a methodological proposal to decolonize social research. This proposal connects some epistemological interpretations of decoloniality with certain ontological and methodological notions offered by complexity, resulting in four guiding axes for research action. These axes lead to the implementation of three approaches: reflexive groups, selfdiscovery of affective experiences in family daily life, and the spiral of emotional time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FOOD , *COLLECTIVE representation , *SINGLE mothers , *DIETARY patterns , *WOMEN heads of households , *PROJECTIVE techniques , *SINGLE-parent families , *SATISFACTION , *SINGLE parents , *CHILD nutrition , *FOOD habits , *CULTURAL identity - Abstract
Numerous female-headed single parent households face increased pressure when attempting to balance income generation with household responsibilities, such as family nutrition, which is critical given its greater influence on children's nutrition and diet quality (Hebestreit et al., 2017). This situation is critical in light of the fact that food is positioned as a critical domain of human well-being (Schnettler et al., 2014, 2017; Denegri et al., 2014, 2016). Satisfaction with food-related life is conceptualized as an individual's global cognitive evaluation of his or her diet (Grunert, Dean, Raats, Nielsen, y Lumbers, 2007); its formal definition is connected to other facets of life such as health, family, and social relationships (Grunert et al., 2007). According to the literature, satisfaction with food-related life is defined in terms of three primary determinants of eating behavior: the food consumed, the individual, and the diet's context (Köster, 2009). The purpose of this study is to contribute to our understanding of female-headed single-parent families and their meanings by examining the importance placed on the family as the first social space in which people construct and shape their social representations in various spheres of daily life (Moscovici, 1984). The overall objective is to investigate the meanings of satisfaction with food-related life for mothers and adolescent children in female-headed single-parent families. The specific objectives are to i) define the semantic entities of food satisfaction in relation to mothers and adolescent children, ii) identify factors that contribute to mothers' and adolescent children's food satisfaction, and iii) compare how mothers and adolescent children perceive their food satisfaction and the factors that contribute to it increasing. To accomplish these goals, a mixed case study research design was used. This entails combining quantitative and qualitative research methods in order to gain a better understanding of the research issues (Cresswell y Plano Clark, 2011). A total of 47 Chilean single-parent families with a female head of household participated in this study. It consists of a fee-paying mother that has at least one adolescent child between the ages of 10 and 17. The data collection method was an interview developed and tested in the Chilean population by Schnettler et al. (2020), based on a projective technique (Mesas y Escribano, 2018), in which mothers and adolescent children individually responded to the first words, terms, or phrases associated with the expression "being satisfied with my food-related life" with the goal of determining the meaning of satisfaction with food-related life. They were then asked to complete the sentence "I would be more satisfied with my food-related life if...". In order to identify factors that could improve their satisfaction with food-related life. The data was textually analyzed by segmenting and coding it. Subsequently, by establishing conceptual relationships, categories and supracategories were generated deductively (Krippendorff, 2004). Following that, the information expressed in the results and plotted in frequency tables is synthesized and interpreted. The Chi-square test was used to compare mothers' and adolescent children's responses (Agresti, 1990). In conclusion, the findings indicate that the meanings of satisfaction with food-related life can be ascribed to the construct's formal conceptualization. Thus, this study provides evidence that the construct is valid. There were also similarities in the meanings of mothers and adolescent children when it came to the determinants associated with food satisfaction, as well as the factors that could increase their satisfaction with food-related life. This finding is critical for establishing the family's influence on the constructs and meanings associated with adolescents' cultural identities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ADOPTIVE parents , *PARENTING , *PARENTHOOD , *SINGLE-parent families , *ADOPTION & psychology , *FAMILIES & psychology , *FORM perception , *PSYCHOLOGICAL adaptation , *PSYCHOLOGICAL well-being , *TIME perception , *MENTAL health - Abstract
The adoption process includes important changes in adoptive families, since it implies a restructuring and adaptation to a new organization of the family system. The path to parenthood entails changes at levels of mental, physical and social health, which in the case of adoptive parents, the challenges are greater or are altered in some way due to the unique characteristics of their experiences and the obstacles they face. To these challenges are added the usual stressors that parents face, such as changes in roles, increased stress, lack of sleep, alterations in the relationship and intimacy of the couple and difficulties that arise in raising their children. On the other hand, time is configured as a concrete dimension through which life develop. The relationship between objective time and subjective or psychological time will shape the perception of time that each person has, which has a role in how both individual and family identity develops. This is because people´s actions are influenced by past experiences, current experiences and future expectations. One of the areas of the adoption process that has not yet been deepened is the waiting time, the period of time between obtaining the suitability and assignment of the minor to the adoptive family, which can be considered important for the future family depending on how adoptive parents face it, this because the way in which the adoption process is experienced impacts both the path to parenthood and post-adoption adaptation. In fact, it confirms that waiting time influences the psychological well-being of adoptive parents. Therefore, it is possible to say that adoptive parents elaborate subjective theories about this process and especially in relation to the waiting time for adoption, explanations that could influence the way in which they face this new challenge and prepare for parenthood. The present study aimed to understand subjective theories about the waiting time and experiences of adoptive parenting. Ten adoptive mothers and fathers participated in this study through individual episodic interviews. The data obtained were analyzed using techniques of three analysis procedures: content based on Grounded Theory, specific for subjective theories and time perspective. From the findings, subjective theories of anxious emotional content during the adoption process stand out, since parents experience great uncertainty, either in terms of how long they can wait before being paired with a child or in terms of the perception of a lack of transparency regarding the real possibilities of adoption given their preferences and abilities, emotions will depend on the handling of information and the accompaniment that they have. The main coping strategies used by the adoptive parents were having a support network, sharing experiences with other parents and the use of personal strategies are the main adaptation strategies of adoptive parents, which they allow them to cope with negative feelings during the process. Also, their concerns focus on the lack of protection of children and the health conditions in which they are received, this given the possibility that they couldn't recover the child's integral health and that the period they have remained institutionalized is a risk factor for attachment. Regarding the limitations, it should be noted that emerging families such as reunified, homo or single-parent families were not included in this study, but rather it was focused on interviewing families whose configuration is considered to be traditional. Finally, important points to deepen in future research would be the study of subjective theories on adaptation of adoptive families with different configurations, also replicating studies that allow establishing the concept of waiting time in adoption and studies that include adoptive parenting experiences on parents of minors with health or developmental problems. LATIN Americans , *SINGLE-parent families , *HOUSEKEEPING , *SEMI-structured interviews , *UNDOCUMENTED immigrants , *VIOLENCE , *VIOLENCE against women - Abstract
In this article, we analyze the violence experienced by Latin American women in the city of Barcelona, Spain. Theoretically, we work from two frameworks of analysis. The first is the triangular model proposed by Galtung, as it highlights the interaction of different forms of violence. The second is based on intersectionality, as it locates factors of oppression that enhance situations of vulnerability. Methodologically, we held 29 semi-structured interviews with Latin American women living in the city of Barcelona between 2014-2016 and 2019-2021. This time frame responds to the stages of the two research studies that support this article. The first of these (2014-2016), undertaken in the context of doctoral research by Dr. Macarena Trujillo, analyzed the experiences of Latin American women who were heads of single-parent families. The second (2019-2021) was in the context of a postdoctoral research by Dr. Paola Contreras, who delved into how migration accentuates and/or allows the emergence of violence that aggravates such issues. Both studies were carried out in Barcelona. The sample is made up of women aged between 26 and 53 years, with and without residence permits and who mostly work in domestic and care services. The results highlight how the migratory situation operates as a catalyst for violence that, directly and indirectly, influences the formation of a matrix of intersectional violence. Based on the latter, we propose to broaden the concept of violence against migrant women due to the complexity, multiplicity, and diversity of situations they face in their migratory journey. The article analyzes the relationship between parents' work-life balance issues and students' academic performance in the Spanish education system. It is concluded that academic performance is strongly influenced by parents' work-life balance, and this is related to various variables such as the working class, single-parent families, and the female gender. Measures are proposed to overcome this problem, and the importance of addressing systemic aspects related to the labor market is highlighted. [Extracted from the article]

SINGLE-parent families , *BEST interests of the child (Law) , *CIVIL rights , *JUSTICE administration , *ADOPTION , *MINORS - Abstract
Over time, the institution of the family has evolved, contemplating new conformation models, among which the single-parent family can be seen, made up of a father or a mother and their child(ren). This article makes a comparative analysis between the legal systems that regulate adoption in Mexico and Colombia. The rules on adoption are reviewed to establish whether they are inclusive of single-parent families, in relation to the prevalence of the best interest of the child and the fundamental rights that assist them. Taking into account that the various legal systems should promote the search for equality, the recognition of the minimum guarantees of children and the inclusion of new family models, internationally recognized. This article, the product of a legal investigation and evaluative level, with a deductive method, supports the existence of a primacy of the best interests of the minor, the fundamental rights and the protection of the family as the fundamental foundation of any society, in relation to the regulatory assumptions applicable to adoption in Colombia and Mexico. The objective of this study was to describe and characterize the family structure and typology of the officials who are part of the National Police. A quantitative approach was used, with a descriptive scope. The study analyzed the data of 152,186 employees, which were extracted from the Information System for the Administration of Human Talent "SIATH". The results indicate a diversification of family typologies, within which a higher prevalence of two-parent nuclear families and one-person families is evidenced. Likewise, a high rate of single-parent families was evidenced in comparison with the result obtained in the Colombian population according to the National Demography and Health Survey ENDS 2015. LIVING conditions , *SINGLE-parent families , *COVID-19 pandemic , *HOUSEHOLDS , *SECONDARY analysis - Abstract
The pandemic caused by Covid-19 has had a major impact on society, although it has been particularly hard on groups that were already vulnerable. This is the case of single-parent households, generally the mother, and her dependent children. The aim of this research is to identify the impact that the pandemic has had on the living conditions of these households. To do so, a secondary analysis has been carried out using data from the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) conducted by the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE). The results of the study refer, in particular, to the changes that the pandemic has brought about in the material situation of the household. These constitute a preliminary reading of the situation, which will have to be completed with future revisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract

- Abstract
The purpose of the study was to analyze the influence of interparental conflict in the emergence of behavior problems in teenagers of intact and single-parent families. An explicative design using mean difference test and MANOVA was used. The sample was comprised of 466 teens from 12 to 16 years old. The variables were measured using the Children's Perception of Interparental Conflict (CPIC) and Youth Self Report (YSR) scales. The results confirmed the association between interparental conflict and behavior problems in their children, and also reveal that, when there is conflict in intact families, a higher frequency of externalizing conduct is produced in these than in single-parent families. The aim of this paper is to analyze, through micro-simulations, the direct impact of completing the coverage of the current system of family allowances and increasing the amount of the program on social well-being. The results show that the proposal would reduce poverty up to 40 %, indigence up to 64 % and the income gap between the 10th and 1st decile up to 27 %. Moreover, the modification would reduce the relative probability of indigence of those who live in the north, belong to large families or live in single parent households headed by women with children, for whom this probability would be, after the modification simulated, lower than that of their complement. In the regional dimension, it stands out that the direct impact of the reform on poverty would be higher in Greater Buenos Aires, where the majority of the poor population is located. This paper presents a discussion on the process that led us to a progressively developing of a specific methodological approach for research on one parent families. This process has been systematized and built from the contributions of feminist epistemologies to the methodological design and participatory forms of work. From it derives a scientific and technical contribution, internationally unpublished until now: Single Parenthood and family diversity Survey (EMODIF), which we propose as a not androcentric measuring tool of single parenthood, their profiles, experiences, expectations and realities. With this article we want to offer a systematization of the implications that has had our implementation of the feminist perspective in studies of one parent families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article addresses the interrelationships between the economic crisis, international migration and the labour market, and their impact on female migration agency, both in the decision to migrate and in the subsequent possibility of return to Bolivia. Based on information collected in a large survey conducted in the city of Cochabamba and the tracing of multiple female migration trajectories, the extreme vulnerability of these women, who are the heads of single-parent households, working in elderly care in Bergamo, is shown. Despite their deteriorating working conditions in the context of current Italian economic crisis and the competition of immigrant care workers from countries of Eastern Europe, they choose to remain in Italy instead of returning to Bolivia. One-parent families in immigration are a phenomenon that has scarcely been explored in Spain, despite the frequency of these forms of household among migrant women, particularly Latin American women who settle in this country. Poverty and single parenthood are two elements that often appear simultaneously in the trajectories of migrant women. The incidence of single parenthood among migrant women from Latin America—specifically Andean and Caribbean countries— resident in Spain will be analyzed in this article. The paper will show how Latin American women have a higher percentage of this type of household. This paper examines forms of entry into single parenthood, and the living conditions of these families once in Spain. It proves that emigrating in single parenthood conditions raises the risk of poverty in Spain. It will be proved that migration in single parenthood has different profiles in relation to the causes of the migration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the characteristics and individual, family, and contextual factors associated with the continued presence in school of secondary school students in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. The source of data is a survey applied to secondary school students with and without diplomas in the Monterrey metropolitan area in 2011. The principal results are that a high percentage of young people who do not earn a diploma have not passed all of their subjects; and that students with the highest risk of not graduating are those who show low scholastic performance (absence from class, and failure to understand the subject and do the homework), those who live in a family organization that is not nuclear or single-parent, and those whose parents have a low educational level. Studies on maternal stress during child raising have taken into consideration contextual variables to explain it. The socioeconomic level, as well as the family constitution have been relevant variables, associating single-parenting in low-income families with greater levels of maternal stress. Maternal stress levels in Chilean, nuclear and single-mother low income families are studied, considering stress in various dimensions, associated to the maternal role, to the mother-child interaction and to the difficulties the mother perceives in the child. 169 Dyads are studied, 80 of them of single-mother families and the other 89 of nuclear families, with children between the ages of 4 to 15 months. Maternal stress levels were measured with the Parental Stress Index, abbreviated version, developed by R. Abidin (1995). The results show significantly higher stress levels in mothers of single-parent families on stress associated to the maternal role, to the perception of a difficult child, and to total stress. The study is about the quality of mother-child interactions in Chilean, single-mother, low-income families, considering the children's attendance to day nurseries and their starting age before and after they are 6 months old. The sample is of 80 dyads, with children between the 4 and 15 months old, and the quality of the interactions is evaluated with the Care-Index instrument. The dyads without attendance to day nurseries show higher quality interactions on the affective aspects, with a middle effect size. The dyads with children starting attendance before becoming six months old show significantly inferior quality interactions to the ones observed in the dyads of children who started attending after that age, medium and large effect sizes. In this article we present part of our findings from a research project focused on single-parent families by choice. The study collected data in three autonomous communities in Spain and includes interviews with mothers involved in single- parenthood projects (through adoption, foster parenting, assisted reproductive technologies or sexual fertilization through a known donor) and their children about their family experiences, observations in different formative, associative and virtual spaces in which these families participate and a compilation of different documents on parenthood by choice. We focus on the way in which the children we have studied build their own non conventional family model. We understand the construction of this model as a process of coconstruction of the child’s subjectivity in which mothers and other socializing agents play an active role [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the social and cultural phenomenon of single motherhood by choice, that is, women who elect to become mothers on their own through adoption or reproductive techniques without being a part of a marriage or other relationship. The authors aim to analyze the social methods utilized by single mothers, to ensure their place in society alongside traditional families as well as to achieve a sense of social legitimization for their child. Empirical research, quotes from single mothers and ethnographic analysis are provided as the authors explore the results of their research on the social models of family and single motherhood.

The profile of women having suffered domestic violence is presented, based on a study of 297 women who receive social assistance from the Valencia Council. More than a third (37.3%) of the women in this group have suffered domestic violence. The profile of these women, compared with that of women belonging to the same group who don't suffer domestic violence, is characterized by the following features: non-gypsy ethnic group, one-parent family structure, separated marital status, several previous relationships, and psychological problems. In other features which characterize the women receiving social assistance, like education level, labour situation, and family and non-family support, no significant differences where noted. Based on the present information, guidelines on prevention and community intervention are considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper explores one of the most relevant current issues for women in Argentina: female heads of household and leadership in certain Socio-Economic Community Organizations (OESC). In general terms, both in Latin America and Argentina, being a Female Head of Household and a OESCs leader can be a form of employment for single women who have no regular companion, or even if they do, it is up to the women to provide for the daily sustenance and make decisions for the whole family group. This situation is in turn compounded by the analysis of women's responsibility in the activities of daily reproduction within the family in the Domestic Unit (UD). We believe a gender perspective enhances the analysis of women's participation and leadership in the neighborhoods of the popular sectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a series of educational psychology books aimed at children of different ages. The first book, "I was born from my mom's love: a story about the adventure of single-parent families," tells the story of a woman who wants to be a mother and form a family, with the aim of explaining in a clear and simple way to children the reality of single-parent families. The second book, "What could that rectangle be?" is a story that encourages imagination and creativity in children from the age of 4. Finally, the third book, "Meet Joy: a story to understand and promote joy in childhood," seeks to help adults understand the importance of children experiencing different emotions, including joy. Additionally, a study on the distribution of students with autism spectrum disorder in Spain and the existing educational models is mentioned. [Extracted from the article]
