The fluvial system can be characterized from the application of geomorphological indicators. These allow understanding the dynamics of the system as well as carrying out a status diagnosis for good management. The aim of this work was to apply a group of geoindicators to diagnose and monitor the environmental status of the Oro basin (38° 4' 56.9"S 61°56' 24.17"W), Argentina. The geoindicators were grouped according to the application objective (diagnosis and monitoring) and the time scale (long, medium and short term). The field work was carried out during the period 2019 - 2021, which was the main input of information. The application of geoindicators in the medium and long term allowed the environmental characterization of the basin and recognition of the most important characteristics in terms of its fluvial dynamics, highlighting the variability of rainfall, which when it occurs in an extreme way, due to the morphometric characteristics of the basin, favors the occurrence of stream flooding events. In the short term, they allowed the identification of those indicators to be monitored to ensure optimal hydrogeomorphological quality, mainly in the riparian areas, which resulted in the highest degree of transformation. The performance of recent tectonic activity in southeast of Mayarí municipality, Holguín province was determined. Seventeen (17) river basins were generated based on topographic information from the Digital Elevation Model of the territory at 25x25 m resolution, to which four morphometric indices were applied: hypsometric integral, hypsometric curve, and asymmetry factor and elongation radius. Quantitative analysis of the surface characteristics of these basins allowed defining their dimensions, shape, and geomorphological stage, intensity of tectonic activity and direction of tilting motion. Interpreting the results showed that character of recent tectonic activity in the study area ranges from moderate to high and it is one of the main factors conditioning the landscape of the territory. The current relief is in a geomorphological maturity stage and the areas with the greatest intensity in recent tectonics are located in the northwest and southwest of the region, according to the geomorphological indices applied. The Sixaola River basin, located between Costa Rica and Panama is considered a dynamic region, with an availability of multiple cooperation scenarios. Its environmental and cultural resources, as well as its early institutional and legal bi-national cooperation framework, among other factors, have made this border an attractive region for important cooperation initiatives on environmental conservation initiatives. These projects, carried out by foreign stakeholders such as non-governmental organizations (NGO's), publicprivate alliances and international financial organizations have an important influence on the environmental management of this border region. Exploring the concept of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and using participatory social research methodologies, this paper seeks to expose and understand conflicts between water users from two river basins in Chile, that, despite their location in completely different areas (one a desert, the other an extreme south-austral zone), have similarities in socio-environmental conflict, since in both cases the existence of mega-projects (one, a mine, the other, a hydroelectric plant) has generated diverse visions of development between the directly affected local communities and the transnational corporations. The paper reflects on these similarities and the socio-environmental struggles they are experiencing, concluding that IWRM is the way to raise awareness and seek solutions to environmental conflicts in the current era of "neoliberal ecocide".
