The objective of this Metasynthesis study is to provide scientific evidence by combining knowledge, based on the selection of previous studies that collect results about the processes of gender subjectivation and their link with the genesis of psychosomatic processes. From the methodological point of view, this study is carried out using the PRISMA method. Articles that address the subject are analysed, offering a detailed summary, of which the complete article will be used as the Unit of Analysis. Due to the current state of knowledge on the subject, it is considered pertinent to include in the sample articles related to the research object that, although they do not specifically address the research problem, offer theoretical arguments and data on the subject. Articles in Spanish will be selected. On the other hand, articles to which it is not possible to access the full content free are not included. Results: have been searched. 8 AU were selected, coming from the Google Scholar and Redalyc databases. The results found indicate that the processes of construction of ideals in the constitution of the feminine and masculine subjectivities are inscribed in the subjects (through culture, language and a complex web of meanings), these are so subtle that they reach make it difficult to oppose or even challenge it. This means that it is only possible to express this discomfort through somatic vulnerability. Traits of over adaptation towards generic ideals are observed, a mechanism highly associated with the genesis of psychosomatic disorders. It is concluded that the subject is constituted in the link, and in the exchange traces are inscribed, both in his body and in his process of subjectivation. The body is not exclusively determined by biology or culture. This interaction occurs within a cultural and symbolic context, where the ways of raising and existing social representations in the culture are building particular styles of gender subjectivity. Mechanisms that promote modes of connection with one's own body and particular ways of becoming ill are inscribed in this process of subjectivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article has the general objective of addressing the problem of the psychosomatic that was exposed by Martin Heidegger and the Swiss psychiatrist Medard Boss in the so-called Zollikon Seminars. First, I provide an overview of the origin and gestation of these seminars, as well as their historical context. Then, the problem of method and the corresponding differentiation between psyche and soma in psychiatry are analyzed. Finally, the article collects Heidegger’s reflections on the phenomenon of the body (Leibphänomen) for making a brief analysis of Major Depressive Disorder in the DSM-5, and shows how the experience of the body (Leib) becomes an aspect fundamental to consider in the diagnosis of this type of disorder. The life of Teresa de Lisieux is an experience of struggle and hope. Surrounded by love in the bosom of her family, she was nonetheless forced to confront the pain of death and separation, which resulted in certain behavioral disorders during her childhood, as well as an acute illness which was probably psychosomatic. Having decided during her adolescence to assume responsibility for her life, she was helped by divine Grace to overcome her limitations and to find a purpose for her existence: to come out of herself in order to give herself to others. This will be her principal attitude as she faces all subsequent situations, including her final illness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the issues that fall within the stated, says related to the following. There is a huge market of medicines, perhaps the greatest advances have been made in this area. Life expectancies are the highest in history. But, at the same time, it is a sick society, which has naturalized the malaise and its "Clinical" treatment through legal and other drugs. Undoubtedly, the foregoing is only an effect of very profound causes, which is related to our forms of production and our way of life. At the end of the day a society that has generated the greatest amount of psychosomatic and neuronal diseases in the history of societal construction. The present paper explores the relationship between psychological and somatic dissociation and different personality and emotional variables, including suggestibility, alexithymia, and emotional regulation and dysregulation. The results with a sample of 355 partipants of a normal population reveal that there is a positive relationship between both types of dissociation, suggestibility and emotional dysregulation. Likewise, there were different patterns of personality associated both to psychological and somatic dissociation. Correlations found in this study put forward the importance to take into account both types of dissociactive symptoms, psychological and somatic ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The author of this paper builds a theoretical and clinical case study, based on a patient presenting with drug resistant bifocal epilepsy, detectable by EEG, that alternates with epileptic pseudoseizures (hystero-epilepsy) that rises the question on one side, about the high percentage (30%) of drug-resistant epileptic patients and its relationship with psychosomatic disorders; and, on the other, the combination of two levels of psychic functioning with the same patient: a non-neurotic narcissist (epilepsy as a psychosomatic disorder) and a functioning neurotic hysterical conversive operation (the pseudoseizures). The importance of this work lies in the increased consultation of patients with nonneurotic narcissistic disorders, among which are psychosomatic disorders, as well as the hard-to-handle (and high percentage of) refractory epilepsy patients, that have presented an unresolved challenge to Neurology and Psychiatry and where the psychoanalytic clinic has the knowledge to contribute. Background: Alexithymia is the lack of mental representations of emotions leading to limited ability to understand and regulate these and can contribute to the development or maintenance of a psychosomatic illness. The aim of the study was to demonstrate that alexithymia is a feature that occurs more frequently in patients with psoriasis and that the coexistence of alexitimia-psoriasis is associated with high levels of trait anxiety. Methods: We applied the Toronto Alexithymia Scale -20 (TAS-20), Inventory of state-trait anxiety (STAI) to 16 outpatients with psoriasis of Dermatology Service of Hospital de Especialidades (Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI) and the results were compared with 25 control subjects. Results: 25 % of patients with psoriasis presented alexitimia, while in the control group was 8 % (p = 0.002). Correlation between the scores of the TSA-20 and STAI-trait (r= 0.6957, p < 0.0001) was observed. Conclusions: The alexitimia occurs more frequently in individuals with psoriasis than in the general population, and levels of trait anxiety in individuals with psoriasis are similar regardless of the presence of alexithymia. PHOBIAS , *ANXIETY disorders , *FEAR Survey Schedule for Children , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *PATHOLOGICAL psychology , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *PSYCHOLOGY - Abstract
Normal fear is defined as a reaction to a real or imagined threat and is considered an integral and adaptive feature related to the primary function of survival. Nevertheless, when fear is intense and maladaptive, it may lose its role for survival and may progress in a phobic disorder with a negative impact for the individual who suffers it. According to some researchers, childhood and adolescence are the main life periods where phobias and other anxiety disorders develop. It is estimated that up to 50% of children and adolescents report one or more intense fears and more than 20% of these meet diagnostic criteria for specific phobias, frequently related to the development of future mental disorders during adulthood. In the assessment of fear, it is important to consider the evaluation of its intensity as well as its frequency among three main dimensions: the subjective dimension (including feelings and thoughts), the physical dimension (e.g., tachycardia and paleness) and the behavioral dimension (e.g., avoidant behaviors). So far, the main fear assessment methods include self-reports, observation and psychophysiological registers. In the area of mental health, the Fear Survey Schedule for Children II (FSSC-II) is the most widely used instrument for the assessment of fears in youth population. The cultural adaptation of an internationally instrument such as the FSSC-II brings the opportunity for subsequent comparison of investigation findings with other populations. The FSSC-II is an updated version of the original instrument as it includes other type of fears such as fear of war and/or AIDS designed to both children and adolescents. Since it is possible that some mental disorders in adulthood are conditioned by the presence of fears in early stages of life, it is important to have an objective characterization of the main fears in our culture. On this basis, adequate psychopathology prevention programs and treatment strategies can be designed and tested. In general, psychopathology is influenced by the cultural context and fears are not the exception as they tend to manifest differently from one cultural context to another. Therefore, the aim of the present work was to translate, culturally adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the FSSC-II in a Mexican sample of high school students. Method A total of 5030 high school students who accepted to participate in the study were recruited. Age ranged between 14 and 24 years old. The FSSC-II is composed of 78 items scored in a three-point Likert scale that assess frequency and intensity of different fears classified in five main dimensions: fear of death and danger, fear of the unknown, fear of failure or criticism, fear of animals and physical stress-medical fears. Before the enrollment procedure, the FSSC-II was adapted for Mexican population. First, translation-back translation was performed by two independent translators. Some items of the instrument were culturally adapted by consensus to reach the final version of the instrument. A principal component analysis with varimax rotation was per- formed to determine the construct validity of the instrument in Mexican population. Cronbach's alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of each domain and total score of the FSSC-II. All analyses were performed with the 10th version of the SPSS-X. Results A total of 2992 women and 2038 men participated. Mean age was of 16.43±1.2 years old. For the Mexican adaptation of the FSSC-II, 11.53% of the items (n=l 8) were culturally adapted. Factor analysis showed five factors for the instrument. These factors were consistent with those described in the original version: fear of death and danger, fear of animals or injuries, fear of failure or criticism, fear of the unknown and medical fears. Internal consistency of the FSSC-II was .96. Alpha coefficients for four dimensions were above .80, except the "medical fears" dimension (.70). Discussion The Spanish version of the FSSC-II among Mexican high school students showed adequate psychometric properties. The adaptation process implicated the modification of some items of the original instruments in order to reach a correct assessment of the proposed constructs of the instrument according to the predominant cultural patterns of Mexico. On the other hand, some items were not modified and were taken literally from either U.S. or Australian versions. Although more than 10% of the items were adjusted, the factor structure of the instrument remained congruent with the original version and the U.S version of the FSSC-II. The Mexican version was totally compatible with the five constructs found in the U.S. version; nevertheless it is important to remark that the content of the Mexican version was more compatible with the content of the items of the Australian version. Some of the inconsistencies found between the three versions may be the result of the subjects' age in the studies. The U.S. study included subjects with ages between 8 and 11 years, the Australian study included subjects between 7 and 1 8 years old, while our study included subjects with ages between 14 and 24 years old. The way children experience reality is not the same as that of adolescents or adults. It is possible to assume that the fears of children are more related to immediate, concrete stimuli, while the ones of adolescents and young adults are related to anticipatory or abstract stimuli. For example, the item of "Fear of being scolded by the principal" can be experienced by a child as something extremely dangerous and, therefore, the item will classify in the dimension "fear of death and danger" and not in the dimension of "fear of failure or criticism" where the answer of an adolescent or a young adult is most likely to be classified. Despite the disparities between the three versions, the FSSC-II showed high internal consistency values and an adequate percentage of explained variance in our sample. These results highlight the utility of the FSSC-II for the assessment of the frequency and intensity of fears in both adolescents and young adults in Mexico. It would be desirable to perform future studies among children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ALEXITHYMIA , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *AFFECTIVE disorders , *MENTAL health services , *PATHOLOGICAL psychology , *DIAGNOSIS ,ETIOLOGY of mental depression - Abstract
Alexithymia (AL) is characterized as an emotional communicative deficit, associated with operational thinking, impulsivity and heavy bodily sensations. AL is a frequent male profile (prevalence of 10%). Cerebroorganic, psychic or social factors take part in its etiology. A differential diagnosis is essential with blocking of affect and atypical depression. The new concept of pseudoalexithymia is introduced here. AL disturbs seriously the dyadic adjustment into the couple and increases the susceptibility to somatic or mental diseases. Some orientations for diagnosis and treatment are given. In conclusion, this study supports the great importance of AL in society, family and clinic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The goal of this study was to test the effect of family variables (cohesion, adaptability and satisfaction) on the relationship between communication and psychosomatic symptoms. The Family Communication Patterns Model (Koerner & Fitzpatrick, 2004) and the Circumplex Model (Olson, 2000) were used to study family communication and family functioning. The sample consisted of 455 university students in the Basque Country. The results emphasize that there are more symptoms in members of families with irregular leadership and with roles that are not clear, whereas those families with an open expression of ideas, thoughts and feelings, tend to have fewer symptoms. These results open a new line of research that will help to verify the results presented and to have a better comprehension of the psychosomatic symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHILD abuse , *ADULT child abuse victims , *PSYCHOSOMATIC disorders , *PSYCHIATRIC diagnosis , *PSYCHOTHERAPY - Abstract
Domestic violence is one of the most common forms of violence found both domestically and internationally. Within these, child abuse has alarming figures. This is the subject of this review. The effects of this problem significantly impact on those who survive; their long-term consequences are most severe and expensive for victimized child and his/her family than associated primary physical injuries. The long-term consequences for these children range from adverse effects on its psycholigical development to psychological, psychiatric organic disoders. It is important to note that good speeches are not enough to achieve success if any intervention are not done correctly. All prevention strategies include well-trained staff, appropriate supervision, resources, and a optimal time for addressing this problem to get the best results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To test the relationship between anxiety, joint hypermobility syndrome (JHS) and other associated variables, and identify physical and psychological variables that distinguish individuals with and without JHS. Method: One hundred undergraduate students were assessed using the following instruments: Brighton's criteria for JHS, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), a questionnaire of neuropsychosomatic affections (ALPIN) and a questionnaire of anxiety disorders. Results: Anxiety scores measured by the HADS and STAI (state scale) were significantly higher among participants with JHS. A set of physical and psychological variables turned out to be statistically significant when distinguishing students with or without JHS. Conclusions: Participants with JHS reported relatively higher levels of anxiety than those without JHS in this study. We suggest it is possible to detect the presence of JHS by assessing physical and psychopathological symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper follows a previous research line where team environment and some sociodemographic dimensions are configured as antecedents of burnout and psychosomatic symptoms. The paper has four objectives. Predicting variables include sociodemographic dimensions and team environment; criterion variables are burnout and psychosomatic manifestations. The sample consisted of 532 participants belonging to 110 work teams from companies in Tarragona, Lleida, Barcelona and Valladolid. Four instruments were applied: Socio-demographic aspects, TCI, MBI, PSICOSOM-27. Results obtained indicate that team environment is a predictor of burnout and psychosomatic manifestations. This paper reviews the grounds of psychosomatic principles held by different authors and analyzes the clinical case of a teenager with a number of traumatic characteristics and a sacralgia as somatic defense. A special emphasis is placed on the fear of collapse in front of repetitive circumstances --a fear that explains the characteristics of this pathology resulting from a loss of an emotionally supportive environment. The paper also shows the relevance of keeping a setting in psychosomatic patients' treatment. It also reflects on the difficulties experienced by doctors, teachers and parents in understanding body and emotional changes in adolescence that have a psychological and social impact on teenagers --who have to face a metamorphosis and the misunderstanding on the side of adults. Suggestions for the training of specialized doctors and teachers in operational, Balint and supervision groups are made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To determine how anxiety, depression, and somatic symptoms are related in a sample of university students in northern Mexico. Methods. An exploratory study was conducted through self-administered questionnaires applied to a convenience sample of 506 psychology students at two universities in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. To evaluate somatic symptoms, the Patient Health Questionnaire was used; for depression, the Beck Depression Inventory; and for anxiety, the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents. Spearman's correlation was used to determine to what extent the associations among the variables were significant. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare anxiety and depression levels between groups of students organized by severity of somatic symptoms. Results. Of the participants, 129 (25.5%) presented somatic symptoms that were of medium intensity or severe; just 4 (0.8%) had severe depression; and only 2 (0.4%) students presented anxiety levels over 75% of the scale maximum. The severity of somatic symptoms increased in step with anxiety and depression levels. The somatic symptoms occurring most frequently and of greatest concern among the study sample were: headache, menstrual pain, and backache, as well as feeling tired and having difficulty sleeping. Conclusions. The direct association between the severity of somatic symptoms and depression and anxiety was confirmed. It is recommended that all treatment and/or prevention programs addressing one of these conditions, include the other two as well. Programs specifically aimed at university youth should be implemented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To evaluate a descriptive model of stress that integrates an explanation of psychosomatic symptoms with the transactional theory of stress. Methods. A random and stratified representative sample was selected from among the students in the School of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, Mexico. The subjects were chosen randomly from a student directory provided by the school. A self-administered questionnaire was used that contained the psychometric properties necessary for accurately quantifying each of the variables included in the model. Results were analyzed using AMOS 5.0, employing the best probability method. Also, the structural model was compared using discrete variables only and endogenous latent variables. Results. The results that were obtained partly confirmed the model and corroborated the impact that stress and emotional exhaustion have on psychosomatic symptoms and that self-esteem, self-efficacy, and social support have on stress. The model with discrete variables [chi square test/degrees of freedom (χ2/df) = 2.87; goodness of fit (GFI) = 0.985; adjusted goodness of fit (AGFI) = 0.946; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.072; incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.982] has a better fit than the model with latent variables (χ2/df = 3.74; GFI = 0.924; AGFI = 0.876; RMSEA = 0.09, IFI = 0.927). In both cases, the fit is adequate. Conclusions. The model discussed is the main contribution of this study. It is a descriptive model of psychosomatic symptoms, with a good fit, that describes 24.3% of the variance for discrete variables and 39.4% when using latent variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Factitious disorder is defined by the intentional production or feigning of physical or psychological symptoms with the objective of assuming the patient role. It is frequently difficult to adequately diagnose this disorder, above all, when the faked symptoms are those of a psychological or a psychiatric disorder. In these cases, there is often high comorbidity with other mental disorders, thus making it difficult to differentiate between real and factitious symptoms. Moreover, the lack of clear objective markers makes assessing the diagnosis even more difficult. In this article, we have aimed to clarify how a correct diagnosis of factitious disorder with psychological symptoms can be reached, to observe the different therapeutic strategies described in the literature and to analyze the utility of each one of them in a given case report.
