Foundation: sub-prothesis stomatitis is one of the most frequently diagnosed disturbances within oral pathology. Objective: To characterize patients carrying subprothesis stomatitis. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 37 patients belonging to the José Luis Chaviano Chavez University Polyclinic Clinic, Area I, from Cienfuegos, attended between September and December 2016. Sex, age, type of prosthesis, use, technical state of the prosthesis, harmful habits, degree and area of injury were analyzed. Results: female gender predominated, between the ages of 60 and 74 years. The most common type of prosthesis was the total one, poor oral hygiene prevailed as a harmful habit, most the patients used prostheses continuously, the II degree was of higher prevalence and the lesion was more frequently found in the middle zone; the highest percentage of patients had maladjusted dentures. Conclusions: in patients with stomatologic prosthetics, sub-prothesis stomatitis constitutes undoubtedly a lesion with multifactorial etiology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies of the oral lesions are scarce and less frequent are those made in the dermatological field. The lack of a standardized design methodology has resulted in a large discrepancy in the study of the prevalence of oral lesions. In the Centro Dermatológico Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua, Mexico, the diversity of our patients' oral lesions is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To describe the prevalence of oral disorders diagnoses at Oral pathology service of Centro Dermatológico Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua. MATERIAL AND METHOD: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was made with all clinical records of patients who presented to Oral pathology clinic of the Centro Dermatológico Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua from 2010 to 2014. This was a non-probability sampling of consecutive cases. Study variables were described by frequencies and proportions. We used the Spearman r° to describe the relationship between oral and dermatological diagnosis. All tests were performed with a confidence level of 95% and p≤0.05. This was performed with the SPSS version 21. RESULTS: 1,670 records were reviewed of which only 532 medical records met the selection criteria. The 41 % of oral disorders standed up for infectious disorders (mainly Candida in 29%), 24% for benign tumors, 10% for bullous diseases, 7% for pigmentary disorders, 6% for ulcerative processes and 6% for inflammatory changes. CONCLUSIONS: A high prevalence of infectious entities was observed in this research. Differences in frequency and type of lesions were obtained in comparison to other studies, which could be related to the type of studied patients. Background: Injections of filler materials in orofacial tissues is a growing practice and may be followed by a reaction involved from small inflammatory nodules to large and diffuse granulomas. They may develop months or years after de procedure making it difficult to diagnose Purpose: Identify histopathological features of a reaction to filler materials through a literature review and the report of three cases in the orofacial region. Method: An exhaustive search of journal articles related to filler materials commonly used in the orofacial region and clinical cases of foreign body reaction by filler material with emphasis in the histopathological features were carried out. The search was made in the database PubMed and the browser Google Scholar between 2004 and 2015. Additionally, three cases diagnosed as foreign body reaction by exogenous material in an oral pathology laboratory of the Venezuelan state Anzoátegui were documented. Results: There were only 10 articles with clinical cases describing histopathological features. Other 3 review articles explained specific characteristics for each filler material. Based on this review, the diagnosis of the 3 cases was confirmed. Conclusions: Few studies describe the histopathological features of filler material reactions and the type of material. Nevertheless, characteristics were collected to confirm the cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
