besity is one of the greatest public health problems in many countries and its prevalence has rapidly increased worldwide in recent decades. Although lifestyle changes, diet, and exercise are the pillars of its treatment, complementary therapies are reserved for patients with higher health risks that cannot achieve weight loss and maintenance. Among these strategies is the bariatric surgery, which can produce a substantial weight loss reasonably sustained in time, significantly improving body image, and reducing comorbidities and mortality related to obesity. Nonetheless, although the weight loss provoked by bariatric surgery is almost always beneficial, its main inconvenient is the resultant excess skin, generally in the abdomen, crotch, legs, and arms; which lead to aesthetic problems, physical symptoms, and functional alterations. Because these complications cannot be completely resolved by lifestyle modifications, post bariatric aesthetic surgery has emerged as a promising solution for these patients. For these motives, the objective of this review is to determine the importance of post bariatric aesthetic surgery in patients with massive body weight loss, and its impact in quality of life and body image.
