- Abstract

LEGAL discourse , *SEMANTICS , *SOVEREIGNTY , *PERONISM , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *CONCEPTUAL history - Abstract
This study attempts to explore the conceptual relationship between populism and popular sovereignty within the legal discourse of constitutionalism in contemporary Argentina. To this end, the methodology chosen was based on conceptual history -Begriffsgeschichte-, which allows decomposing the “com- mon senses” of the constitutional discourse through a double operation. The first is semasiology, which implies a study of the emergence of the word “populism” and its conceptual function as an indicator and factor of a political context which defined the preconceptions of Argentine jurists from the 1950s onwards. This approach derives in the study of onomasiology, which observes the way in which such voice was inserted in a tension between two “constitutional traditions”. One liberal -1870-1930-, hostile to popular sovereignty, understanding it as tyranny of the majorities; and the other based on an unlimited popular constituent coming from the Schmittian reading of Sieyès, which culminated with the sanction of the National Constitution of 1949 during the first Peronism. The historical-conceptual key allows us to explain the use of “populism” at the level of juridical discourse, as a form of rehabilitation of the classical liberal tradition that counterposes the Cons- titution to the excess of a popular constituent conceived as potentially dangerous. - Abstract

SPANISH language , *SUFFIXES & prefixes (Grammar) , *LEXICOGRAPHY , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *NEW words - Abstract
Agentive suffixes in Spanish such as –ero, –ista and –dor have been widely studied. However, the verbal suffix –nte has been excluded from analyses involving agentivity. The –nte inclusion in the agentive system is essential to complement previous work, as well as to understand current lexical creation processes reflected in the coining of neologisms formed with these suffixes. Thus, this article aims to describe the semantic and lexical characteristics of the deverbal agentive suffixes –dor, –nte, and –ón, mostly in the mexicanspanish dialect throughan onomasiological analysis based on competing schemes between –dor, –nte, and –on, focused on the performance of these suffixes in the formation of neologisms. The results indicate that each of the agentive suffixes presents a specific profile that results in clear selection preferences, –dor being the most common suffix and with the fewest restrictions. PSYCHOLINGUISTICS , *LANGUAGE & languages , *VISUAL perception , *MENTAL imagery , *CONCEPT learning , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *NAMES - Abstract
In the current paper, first part, we present the design and development of the Argentinean Psycholinguistic Image Naming Test (PAPDI). This test has two characteristics that make it different from those currently available in our country: (a) the stimuli have been selected by controlling the variables that affect the stages of visual analysis and image recognition (Visual Complexity and Image Agreement) and conceptual knowledge (Image Variability and Familiarity) of the drawing of the object; and the variables (Frequency of Use and Age of Acquisition) that affect the stage that seeks to evaluate the test were manipulated: activation, selection and retrieval of the lexical label (phonological form of the name), to generate a gradient of difficulty in the items of the test. However, the variable Naming Agreement, that also affects this stage, was controlled to selected pictures with only one predominating name. The quantification of these factors by means of specific variables is influenced by the cultural and linguistic context from which they were obtained, consequently we took their values from Argentinean normative data base and (b) semantic cues were elaborated according to semantic feature production norms also from Argentina. The phonological cues corresponded to the first syllable of the object's name. Their use allows to generate more precise hypotheses about the location of the deficit and allows to infer relevant information about the cognitive profile. Therefore, the process of construction and development of the test is presented, showing how these particularities were taken into consideration, which variables were controlled and which were manipulated, and their justification. For the design of the test 62, black and white pictures were originally selected from the 400 pictures taken from Cycowicz's set (of frequent use in Experimental Psychology and Neuropsychology). They correspond to concrete concepts from different semantic categories belonging to both living and non living domains. The criteria used to include those images were that they were moderately complex (in quantity of lines and details), moderately familiar and that they had a mean image variability value. They had to have a medium to high concordance degree between the mental image and its corresponding representation. Besides, these images had to have a naming agreement superior to 80%. To conform the first version of the test, the 62 images selected were ordered according to the variable Age of Acquisition and each image was assigned its corresponding semantic and phonological cues. The former were extracted from the Argentinean norms considering the most relevant features. The second consisted on the word's first syllable. A pilot study with healthy population (n = 50), of different ages, both sexes and three educational levels, was carried out through which 30 images were selected that constituted the test's final version. The deleted items were: figures that did not evoke a univocal response, that is, they were easily confused with other objects; figures that had more than one acceptable answer although not all were correct; and items that presented a ceiling effect where the scores accumulated in high scores and did not allow to discriminate the participants' ability to select, retrieve and produce a word (only 25 and 30% of the items were retained). In the test's final version, the items were reordered according to the Age of Acquisition and Frequency values and their difficulty in naming (following the percentage of successes in the spontaneous response). And images that were contain in another naming tests were deleted. The test is short enough for use in the clinic and freely accessible. The second part of the paper presents the psychometric studies that provide evidence of their relevance and validity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DEMONYMS , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *SYNTAX (Grammar) , *MORPHOLOGY (Grammar) , *TOPONYMY , *SUFFIXES & prefixes (Grammar) , *HISTORICAL linguistics - Abstract
In this paper we intend to establish the preliminary concepts of what is understood by demonym. Given that a demonym is a designative category, this concept must be addressed from an architectural standpoint. Therefore, we will try to define the demonym from an onomasiological, a syntactic, and a morphological perspective. We will mostly approach the latter, the morphological level, since it is one of the most fructiferous levels when studying the demonym, especially for the broad possibilities converging in its construction. Consequently, we will focus on the suffixes that operate in this derivational process, and present a table showing, among other aspects, the most productive, relatively productive, and scarcely productive suffixes in Spanish. The aim of this study was to evaluate a procedure to reveal the emergence of full naming in typically developing children. In Experiment 1, five 6-year-old children (a) learned tacts of pictures and the emergence of the selection of these pictures upon hearing their names was tested; and (b) the selection of other pictures was taught and the emergence of the tacts was tested. All children showed the emergence of picture selection and 3 children showed the emergence of the tacts. In Experiment 2a, the children's correct repetition of the names of 3 pictures was verified first, then the experimenter presented the pictures with their names without requiring any behavior other than attending. Finally, the emergence of picture selection and the tacts was tested. Experiment 2b replicated Experiment 2a with words that were easier to pronounce. Picture selection and the tacts emerged; this performance documented full naming for the first time with typically developing children. These procedures can be used to induce naming capacity in children who lack it; hence, they can be applied to teach children with learning delays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SPANISH encyclopedias & dictionaries , *SYNTAX (Grammar) , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *LEXICOLOGY , *COLLOCATION (Linguistics) , *SPANISH language - Abstract
The first formulation on restrictions on lexical insertion is to be found in generative grammar's Standard Theory (1965). However, as then understood, restrictions had a basically extralinguistic value (concerning notions such as 'animate', 'human, 'thing', 'instrument', etc.). This paper shows how the traditional concept of selection has been enhanced by the incorporation of new features, whether semantic of categorical, from the Hispanic research tradition on the field of lexical syntax. Particularly worthy of mentioning to this respect are two onomasiological dictionaries of contemporary Spanish, which differ from one another by the directionality of lexical selection. Additionally, an analysis of selectional restriction observed in the 'entourage' of lexical definitions from current semsiological Spanish dictionaries. Such analysis shows that the collocations do not differ in their syntactic-semantic behavior from the rest of language, inasmuch as the process of selection between the allocated seems to respond to the predicate > argument orientation. SOCIOMETRY , *HIGH school students , *COLLEGE students , *SOCIAL support , *ONOMASIOLOGY , *SOCIAL groups - Abstract
Perceived social support was studied as a function of both positive and negative sociometric nominations from peers using high-school and undergraduate students as participants. Perceived social support was a negatively accelerated increasing function for 407 students with positive nominations. Perceived support was a negatively accelerated decreasing function for 329 students with negative nominations. When these data were analyzed by sex, age and social class of the participants the functions between perceived support and positive nominations were similar across groups. However, perceived social support by women, high-school students and students with higher incomes was less sensitive to negative nominations than perceived support by their counterparts. It was concluded that sociometric nominations are not only objective indicators of support available in the social environment of a person but also better predictors of perceived social support than reports from the same subject. It was also concluded that the present results integrate perceived social support to the body of findings described by Social Impact Theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work attempts to explain a Chacobo myth (Pano). The narrative evidences a symbolic passage from a ‘nature’ state to a ‘culture’ state, and the meaning of the myth is traced in practices and representations belonging to three different ‘codes’: a) relating to food (ideas about consumption or how cannibalism is treated), b) relating to the worldview (cosmological and theophanic organisation, and mythical narrative), and c) relating to social organisation (kinship, alliance, onomastics, and reciprocity). Finally, an anthropological understanding of the Chacobo conception of ‘humanity’ is derived from the myth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The concepts stored in our brain as regards the food 'pan' are getting confused. Being a very general kind of food, this concept tends to produce multiple designations. Here we stem from the onomasiological information provided by dictionaries and diverse linguistic atlases to give a semasiological proposal based on the conceptual distinction between "pan redondo" and "pan alargado".
