In the irrigated areas of Mendoza province, located in the centralwest region of Argentina, trees play a central role in the construction of places and the definition of identity. The landscape, understood in a relational and historical sense, emerges as an interesting category for analyzing how material and discursive phenomena and dynamics shape environments that are considered characteristic of an identity. Based on a study of historical and current discourses and materialities regarding the formation of the forest landscape in the central-northern region of the province (currently known as the northern oasis), our objective is to analyze the role of these plants in the shaping and consolidation of distinctive environments, ways of experiencing these landscapes, and ethnic and provincial identities. The historical analysis is approached through a synthesis of archaeological and documentary data, which allows for the delineation and distinction of indigenous, colonial, and modern landscape formations. Current materialities are analyzed through agronomic studies, environmental reports produced by state agencies or provincial legislations, and own records. Discourses are examined through research in local media, web forums, and public debates. This article provides a synthesis and new insights on the topic, particularly by discussing various previously isolated sources. This holistic and historically informed analysis allows us to observe how narratives and materialities are intertwined in the unique construction of the forest landscape in Mendoza's irrigated areas, shaping a distinct environment, experience, and identity in the study region, impacting various fields of knowledge and practice. The increase in the offer of distance learning higher education courses is a growing reality that requires a careful look at how communication takes place between those involved. Thus, the objective of this article is to investigate the factors that in distance education enhance the participation of undergraduate students in synchronous and asynchronous communications, based on the assumptions of the theories of learning by Lev Vygotsky and Paulo Freire. Therefore, as specific objectives, the profile of students was also drawn in relation to the investigated sample, as well as a diagnosis made in undergraduate courses at a Brazilian State University about the current conception of students about the types of communication that occur during his academic training. background, revealing the frequency of use of communication tools and the frequency of interaction and level of influence between the actors involved. With the structuring and analysis of the data carried out, the following factors were identified as factors that enhance participation: expansion of synchronous interaction with the professor who authored the course; the need for a quicker return to messages that are posted on the forums; improving the administrative / didactic-pedagogical organization of the dissemination of lives; change in the schedule of lives or better sizing of schedules; and lives with exercise resolutions and on-call doubts. In addition to providing students with a more active participation in this communication process in the context of distance education, considering that the teaching and learning process occur in a mediated, collaborative way and through social interactions in the midst of the knowledge society. This writing addresses the physical and emotional suffering that some infertile women face for years, putting their bodies and hopes in the hands of Science. Based on this cut, we propose to parallel this experience with the structure of the Milgram matrix using a qualitative methodology for analyzing the experiences described by women users of the techniques in internet forums on infertility. We conclude that the spots cut out in the forums place the position of obedience to the medical authority as central in the pregnancy search itinerary that is reinforced by the interventions of the other users. This article presents a supranational perspective on the prevention of violent extremism (PEV) with the aim of ascertaining whether a new paradigm for action can be identified. To this end, it critically analyses EU policies, measures, and strategies that have been established in the context of the threats and challenges posed by radicalisation and violent extremism. It explores how the approach adopted by the EU, originating in its 2005 antiterrorist strategy, has entailed the need to create tools, strategies, programmes, and networks to inspire and encourage member states to produce policies and instruments in order to prevent and combat radicalisation which could lead to violent extremism. Finally, it formulates the hypothesis that adopting this "soft approach" will probably influence, in the long term, strategies and measures that go beyond the security framework. The article highlights the importance of the participation of the refugee population in the formulation of policies in Kenya. Although they are often excluded from these processes, their participation is essential for the development of well-founded policies. In Kenya, the Constitution guarantees the right to participation of the people, including the refugee population. However, courts have invalidated laws and policies due to inadequate public participation. In 2020, the Kenyan Constitutional Court invalidated the Guidelines for the Election of Refugee Community Leaders due to a lack of public participation. The article describes the process of public participation in the development of Kenya's Refugee Law in 2019, which included visits to refugee camps, meetings with officials and local leaders, and public participation forums. The importance of translating documentation into different languages and including minority and marginalized voices in legislative development is highlighted. [Extracted from the article]

Traditional television coexists with formats that originated on the internet, as well as on-demand consumption, paid television, and other audio-visual content distribution platforms. Audience data reveal a steady decline in television viewership, and digital technologies now allow any citizen to produce audio-visual content and distribute it for mass consumption through the internet. Given this new audio-visual ecosystem, the aim of this research is to ascertain whether there are any signs of a crisis regarding the dominance of television as a means of disseminating the products of the culture industry. Disinterest or indifference toward conventional programming by users would reveal a danger to the broadcast industry. In contrast, the consumption of television products through other channels would imply the retention of television audiences through the internet. This study analyzes perceptions regarding television through five online discussion groups. Three conclusions can be drawn: Firstly, television holds a prominent place in the daily lives of those who use it, including the youngest participants, despite the fact that audiences have declined in recent years. The second conclusion states that the perception of television is positive and associated with disengagement, relaxation, and family gatherings, which can be combined with individual consumption at other times of the day. As a third conclusion, this study reveals the high degree of compatibility between the internet and television screens, as new forms of consumption are emerging, yet there is still a predominant interest in content on television and from the mass culture industry. The study emphasizes on the attempt to reveal the philosophical, political, social and cultural links of the digital forum discourse as a glocal, complex and oscillating system, through the methods of multidisciplinary analysis. The digital information media propose to Internet users to create a simulacrum of the reality, which is developed according to its own laws and represents a new form of interaction, attributed an especial function to provide the feedback process to create and feed a universal social dialogue. Reflecting the global political trends and the tensest issues through the lens of virtual Reality, the forums have become a kind of social activity, a cognitive instrument to verbalize and manipulate the reality, a new challenge for modern Science. POLARIZATION (Social sciences) , *FEMICIDE , *INTERNET forums , *PUBLIC opinion , *VIOLENCE against women , *GENDER , *LAW - Abstract
This article examines the online comments section of Nicaraguan newspaper reports on gender violence, focusing specifically on articles about Law 779: The Integral Law Against Violence Towards Women (2012). The study traces contemporary public opinion regarding gender relations, crime, and the law. The comments sections reveal that many commentators do not view gender violence as a State problem, but rather they assert that it should be handled in the family unit. This belief is bolstered by State policies that advocate for restoring family peace and harmony through dialogue. The article highlights another main complaint against Law 779 in the comments: that it inaugurates a war against men. I conclude that this perspective constitutes a refusal to cede power and privilege. These representational battles reveal ceaseless anxiety over Law 779's ruinous effects on the family. In the end, allegations about the divisiveness of the law point to a desire for the return of traditional family narratives. Law 779 embodies several decades of women's demands for respect, autonomy, and freedom from violence. After a rapid pendulum swing in society about Law 779, public opinion reflects extreme uncertainty and instability regarding changing expectations, both legal and social, for gendered behavior. VIRTUAL reality , *GENERATION Z , *SOCIAL belonging , *SOCIAL context , *COMPARATIVE studies , *QUALITY of life measurement , *INTERNET forums - Abstract
Introduction: Given the increase in use of virtual reality and immersive content as a reporting format by journalists and the media, we have proposed a possible virtual reality narrative model for the production of these types of content. Method: We have opted for a mixed study, where the quantitative is made up of surveys conducted with 60 Generation Z Spaniards, at the same time as two discussion groups, with 5-6 individuals of a similar age. Likewise, a comparative analysis is considered between elements of the immersive narrative and the traditional audio-visual narrative in order to reach the desired end result. Results and conclusions: The complexity of the segmentation of audiences in the digital field is evident, despite the individuals belonging to the same social environment. The instruments of measurement allow for some basic elements for the creation of news content in multimedia formats with immersive capacity, which should be accompanied by commitment and perseverance by the media experts and journalists involved in the innovation processes. Based on the fundamentals of participatory action research, this text describes how a collective is formed and the environmentalization of the curriculum is problematized at the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (uptc). Methodologically, iap involves management processes and institutional intervention, as well as interpretative and critical research paradigms in search of a transformation. First, this article presents the results and the discussion of the conformation of the collective integrated by teachers, students and administrators of the university; second, it shows the analysis of the language, the discourses and the way the collective problematizes the curricular environmentalization, through the construction of the problem tree as an instrument for gathering information. The results showed the limitations of conceptual type about environment, curricular structures, positioning of an economic discourse in the educational and environmental fields and the difficulties between administrative and academic processes. Online support forums focused on health and illness represent geographies of social action in which rules of behavior, stances, roles, identities and discourses are negotiated, thus overcoming the stigma associated with some pathologies. The aim of the present qualitative study was to identify the functions accomplished by metaphors in the interactions taking place in a recovery forum for eating disorders. The sample included 488 messages published in 30 threads. The metaphors were identified applying the Pragglejaz method. The analysis revealed that the forum members used metaphors to fulfill three specific functions: to explain a complex meaning in more concrete terms collaboratively (ideational function); to build the coherence and the cohesion in the interactive discourse of the forum; and to sustain the speech acts of asking and giving advice, qualifying the content of the dispreferred responses. Teaching argumentation is a strategy of great interest within the community involve in the study of didactic in science since there are numerous studies showing the relationship between the development of scientific thought and the argumentation structured processes (Khun, 2008), however in virtual learning environments teaching argumentation is a relatively new issue and therefore constitutes a challenge for the instructional designer of the virtual course. Collaborative learning in virtual environments is a strategy implemented in recent years in such contexts under the assumption that computer-mediated and asynchronously communication facilitates the maintenance of dialogue (Schwarz & Glassner, 2003). However, studies indicate that these students' dialogues in virtual forums can be weak and based on beliefs not justified instead of using reasons articulated between theory and evidence, otherwise can be characterized because students within the group accept explanations without paying enough attention on the relationship between a statement and the available evidence and therefore readily accepted arguments without making opposition. This condition can be explained because in the context of collaborative internet the problems increase due to issues like complexity of interfaces, decreasing communication channels regarding classroom situations, or the ease of students to mask his inactivity within collaborative groups (Peñaloza, García & Espinoza, 2011). Although most researchers agree that the dialogic argumentation promotes the acquisition of scientific concepts, also they say it is difficult to integrate the teaching of argumentation structured processes into a virtual course of experimental science as well as evaluating appropriation of concepts through arguments. In this paper the results of an investigation conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of an instructional design based on structured argument process in the development of the argumentative capacity of higher education students enrolled in an online course biotechnology is presented. The po pulation under investigation corresponds to higher education students of both sexes who are enrolled in a Biotechnology online course offered by a distance university in Colombia. Instructional design incorporated three elements: the first is the teaching of Toulmin argumentative model, the second element incorporated was the situated learning context from which the interaction is developed and for this study corresponds to a Biotechnology theme and the third component included the design and development of techno-didactic mediations to promote educational interactivity where virtual learning objects, guide activities and assessment rubrics were included. These elements were incorporated into the virtual course within the Moodle 2.1 platform. Moreover, learning strategy based on dialogic argument was developed in four stages: (a) scientific research, (b) argumentative paper development, (c) counter argument, and (d) scientific consensus. To evaluate the effectiveness of instructional design and online learning strategy based on dialogic argumentation an experimental design was conducted with a control group and post-test. The assess ment of the argumentative capacity was performed by applying the online assessment tool for dialogic argumentation proposed by Clark and Sampson (2008). This model evaluates the argumentative process in the virtual forum both indiv idually and group. Data were analyzed with non-parametric statistical tests. The research results indicated significant differences in the level of argumentative competence in the experimental group compared with the control group. The experimental group had higher ratings on their ability to structure texts, support arguments within the group and make reasoned opposition to reach consensus. Also, results of this research support the design and learning strategy based on the argument for virtual environments and shown it can be effective to increase the academic performance of students participating in collaboration online forums. Students in the control group did not performed opposition, and, most students in the experimental group achieved level three opposition on the scale of Clark and Sampson (2008), this aspect indicates the need to develop strategies to increase the level of opposition. This article proposes a descriptive study of the social and didactic presences of discourse in online forums. The objective is to fi nd trends adopted by the structure in social and didactic discourse on the various phases that define the learning process of the Community of Inquiry model. The analyzed discourse was taken from the discussions led by students and teachers in postgraduate courses. The analytical method was based on the principle of logical minimization as applied by the AQUAD. In conclusion the forum learning takes place regardless of the simultaneity of the factors studied, although an added value for the educational community is presupposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this paper is to determine differences on performance levels when students use a self-assessment rubric into online discussion forums as a tool to write a good message. This educational experience was in online forums about human sexual education for medical students. A quasi-experimental research design was developed. In one forum (16) students use a rubric for writing their messages, their performance level was compare to levels from other forums (7,16 y 21) through Wilcoxon test analysis. Results suggest that using a self-assessment rubric promotes argumentative competence in four of five rubric's elements. Writing messages is a complex activity where different abilities are mixed at the same time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes a systemic analysis from the standpoint of activity theory of the cultural emergence of a virtual learning community as a complex system. Three levels of analysis were employed: data mining, visualization of complex systems and analysis of discursive interactions, with the aim of understanding the emerging phenomena of online learning and in order to have the necessary elements to assist in planning the formation of virtual communities in formal settings. This was carried out using six years of activity from 3,324 people from different documentary sources: 9,871,531 CMS records; 1,371,907 from LMS; 67,828 IRC statements; and 27,798 online forum comments. In the process, we observed how action aimed at socialization and discussion of its object evolve into historical-cultural milestones such as the culture of merit as opposed to certification, the division of labor and the process of transition from free software to free culture. This article studies the features of the political insult as a recurrent speech act in the forums of Colombian readers of digital press, its articulation with the strategic function of delegitimation of the opponent, proper of the political discourse, and its links with the prevailing authoritarian political culture in the country -as well as its use by users who belong to other political cultures, in contexts of polarization that were a particular feature during the elections of October 30, 2011, in Colombia. The textual corpus included 1,260 reader comments, collected from four columnists forums of eltiempo.com and three columnists from elespectador. com, over a period of six weeks. Four metaphors related to the characterization of the Readers' forum were examined: as cloaca, quadrilateral, rational dialogue or gallery of multiple mirrors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the last years we observed in the world of business, educational institutions, recreational facilities and other organizations how to design courses, trips, seminars, etc. that address different requirements and training needs. These programs are taught by specialists of diverse disciplines and are increasingly framed in learning models based on the construction of knowledge. This change has been aided by the rise of information and communication technologies (TIC), which provides a good support so that students and tutors interact. In the forums, space privileged for the intervention, students and teachers make their investments through texts that can be analyzed beyond the words written by the producer of the message. These messages integrate other texts that the speaker/writer brings to consideration when he makes his participation. Thus, they comprise the "other voices" of the speech of the students. From this perspective it is interesting to note these voices which students use as a resource for their interventions, as well as to investigate how they get integrated into the text produced by them. The aim of this paper therefore is to show how these other voices are made present in the participant's speech taking into consideration for this analysis an online forum from a higher education program. These interventions are analyzed using some key concepts of Ducrot's polyphonic theory of enunciation (1984, 1986) and other referencing procedures by Authier (1984). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOCIAL networks , *INTERNET forums , *SOCIAL participation , *CONSUMER behavior , *STRUCTURAL equation modeling - Abstract
The development of firm-hosted online social networks is an increasingly important phenomenon. This importance is due to the benefits that companies may obtain from consumer participation in this type of network. However, to obtain these benefits, a minimum level of participation in the network must be guaranteed. For this reason, this work employs a double hedonic-utilitarian approach (by integrating perceived entertainment into the Technology Acceptance Model) in order to understand the factors determining consumer intention to participate in these networks. The results, obtained from the application of structural equation modeling to a sample of 456 individuals, confirm most of the proposed hypotheses and indicate the major importance of the hedonic component in this context. Based on these results, a series of interesting managerial implications are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Internet forums have become an attractive communication alternative for many people with health problems such as psychological disorders. The analysis of exchanged messages in Internet forums provides information about users' communication styles. In this exploratory study we analyze and compare language use in the exchanged messages between participants in two Internet forums on psychological problems: one for anxiety problems and another for depression. Three hundred and forty messages were analyzed (170 from the anxiety group and 170 from the depression group) through LIWC program, which is based on word count and classification according to different categories (affective and social processes, physical functions, etc.). Results showed significant differences in participants' language use when comparing both forums (anxiety or depression). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of online discussion forums has become popular among people with health problems. Online forums' users exchange and share personal experiences and feelings with strangers. The computer-mediated communication has special features which attract a wide variety of individuals suffering from health conditions and/or their caregivers. In addition to the 24 hour availability and the absence of barriers imposed by geographic location, research suggests special characteristics of online discussion groups such as: a better way for people to express themselves than in face to face encounters, access to a wide variety of health information, a possibility to reveal personal and private information anonymously or the therapeutic effects of writing about health problems. Although there is some scientific evidence which suggests the positive effects of internet discussion groups participation on users' well-being, more controlled studies are needed. In recent years, Internet has made possible the emergence and consolidation of a new form of interpersonal communication such as the discussion among members of health related bulletin boards or discussion forums. One of the more fruitful research work is aimed to analyze the content of the exchanged messages among participants. The present work analyzes the frequency of the topics in the messages that are exchanged among users of internet discussion forums for health problems by sex and illness. A total of 756 postings of participants in four Spanish-speaking internet bulletin boards were analyzed (diabetes, fibromyalgia, sclerosis and asthma). Each posting was analyzed for the presence or absence of 15 coding categories subsumed under four broad categories (social support, illness and treatment issues, interpersonal issues and expression of emotions). Postings regarding giving informational support and instrumental support were more frequent at diabetes discussion board. Expressions of positive emotions (optimism and gratitude) were predominately found on fibromyalgia boards. Differences by sex were only found in some categories and in some forums. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationships between both online social support and group identification with health complaints and life satisfaction. Participants were 500 adult exam applicants for Secondary and Primary Education professor positions, who participate in a specific forum on the Web. A mediation model was tested using Structural Equation Modeling analysis. Our data showed that online social support partially mediates the effects of emotional exhaustion on health complaints and life satisfaction. At the same time, effects of group identification are totally mediated by online social support. Finally, results and avenues for future research are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
