Carrefour, a French chain created in 1959, is present in more than 30 countries. In Brazil, the hypermarket chain arrived in 1975 and was already considered the second largest retail company in the country, according to a ranking by Ibevar - Brazilian Institute of Retail & Consumer Market Executives, in 2012. From 2007 onwards, the chain suffered due to least five cases with accusations of violence, racism and/or homophobia. In one of the cases, a black man who owned an EcoSport was mistaken for a thief and was taken by outsourced security guards into the network, suffering physical and psychological torture for more than 15 minutes. In 2009, another case of beatings followed by death occurred at the Supermercado Dia e Noite store, a subsidiary of the Carrefour group, in São Carlos-SP. The theft of two cheese loaves, some drumsticks and hair cream, committed by bricklayer Ademir Peraro, aged 43 at the time, led to his beating by the store supervisor and a security guard. After the torture ended, the victim was locked in the bathroom until the store closed, when he was thrown into the street. Rescued by family members, he was taken to the hospital and, before dying, the bricklayer managed to report the torture he was subjected to. In December 2018, a branch in Osasco-SP made the news after a stray dog was killed by one of the establishment's security guards. In October 2020, one of the network's suppliers died of a heart attack in Recife-PE. His body was covered by an umbrella and the establishment continued to operate normally. Still in 2020, on the eve of Black Awareness Day, two white security guards beat João Alberto Silveira Freitas, a black man, to death on charges of arguing and shouting at an employee, at a company unit in Porto Alegre-RS. That same year, the "Black Lives Matter" movement gained global prominence after the death of Jorge Floyd by North American police officers. Society began to condemn this type of behavior and a series of boycotts began to occur. After João Alberto's death, a wave of protests in repudiation of his death was registered in six Brazilian capitals. The anti-racist demonstrations were marked by direct actions against the chain's stores, with high engagement on social media. In São Paulo, for example, more than a thousand protesters joined the 17th March of Black Consciousness in SP, which was concentrated in the space of Masp (São Paulo Art Museum) and went to a hypermarket unit, located on Pamplona Street, and which was completely destroyed. In Porto Alegre-RS, thousands of people gathered in front of the unit where the crime occurred. The murder of João Alberto Silveira Freitas had wide national repercussions and the organization, which found itself immersed in a serious crisis, was forced to respond to society. Among the actions developed by the organization to manage this crisis is the website "Não Vamos Esquecer", which proposed to establish anti-racist commitments. Furthermore, the organization signed several agreements with the public ministry and has been trying, since then, to rebuild its image. We understand organizations as social actors in interaction, producing and disputing meanings with their different interlocutors (Baldissera, 2010; Lima & Oliveira, 2014). Based on the notion of anti-racist advertising (Leite, 2014; 2019), this work reflects on anti-racist actions in organizations, taking as a starting point the actions of the supermarket chain after the 2020 episode. We conclude that Carrefour's actions are still compromised the maintenance of racism as a social structure in the country, due to the results of the organization after the crisis. FERAL dogs , *OBSCENITY (Law) , *CHURCH work , *EIGHTEENTH century , *POPULAR music ,SPANISH Inquisition, 1478-1820 - Abstract
The article analyzes the relationship between obscenity and censorship in Spanish and Novohispanic poetry of the 18th century. It highlights the relationship between society and stray dogs in Mexico City, as well as indigenous practices in Peru. The efforts of the Spanish Church to prohibit works with sexual content are also mentioned. The study is based on literary texts and archival documents that show the relationship between censorship and obscenity, including works on prostitution and the social and sexual dynamics surrounding it. Additionally, the censorship of popular songs in New Spain by the Inquisition is addressed, and the poet Samaniego is defended against accusations of anticlericalism. [Extracted from the article]

Objective. To identify the abundance and prevalence in infection by digestive parasites (DPs) and their seasonal distribution in dogs from Aguascalientes, Mexico. Materials and Methods. A statistically representative sample (n=927) systematically selected (first in each 10), of stray or owners-surrendered dogs at a local animal control and welfare center was examined. Immediately after legal euthanasia (pre-anesthetic plus anesthetic overdose), the entire intestine was removed, and intestinal contents were sieved; macroscopically visible helminths were collected; a stool sample was then examined in duplicate by flotation, McMaster, and Lugol's-stained smear. Results. The prevalence of DPs was 42.8%. Elevated prevalence values were detected among puppies (60.6%), in dogs with lower body weight (72.7%), also in stray dogs (57.5%) compared with those voluntarily surrendered by their owners (37.5%; p<0.01); additionally, more cases were found during temperate seasons (51.0 vs 33.1%; p<0.01). The DPs prevalence values were determined: Dipylidium caninum (26.2%), Taenia spp. (4.0%), Giardia spp. (13.6%), Cystoisospora spp. (7.8%), Sarcocystis spp. (5.3%); Toxocara canis (14.0%), Ancylostoma caninum (12.9%), Uncinaria stenocephala (4.2%), Toxascaris leonina (0.5%), and Oncicola canis (0.1%). The DPs reached a high prevalence with hundreds of adult forms in the intestine and thousands of eggs or oocysts per gram of feces. Conclusions. These results indicated a high prevalence of DPs in dogs of central Mexico, especially in the population segment constituted by stray, young and underweight animals, which is relevant in public health due to its recognized zoonotic capacity. PAROTID glands , *FERAL dogs , *DOG attacks , *MASSETER muscle , *HARD palate , *SALIVARY glands - Abstract
The pudu (Pudu puda), belongs to the Artiodactyla order and the Cervidae family, corresponding to the second smallest deer in the world and is endemic to Chile and Argentina. They are herbivores that feed on young leaves and shoots of certain trees, shrubs, herbs, fruits, and flowers. The status of is species is classified as Vulnerable; therefore, its hunting and capture is prohibited, this because its population has decreased substantially due to the loss and fragmentation of native vegetation, forest fires, attacks by feral dogs and poaching. There is little scientific anatomical information available on this species, and even more so regarding its digestive morphology, which is why studies are required to provide specific information on this deer. Two adult female pudu specimens were used, which were donated by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Talca, Maule Region, Chile. Among the results, we can indicate that the oral cavity, salivary glands and esophagus resemble other domestic ruminants; there are also similarities with the field deer, however, there are differences such as the shape and development of the parotid gland; the parotid duct passes ventral to the masseter muscle and opens into a papilla at the level of the upper third premolar; the mandibular gland is divided into three wolves; the sublingual gland only has a polystomatic portion, the dorsal buccal glands are smaller than the ventral buccal glands, the ventral buccal gland is elongated and compact and the presence of a rounded intermediate buccal gland is observed, it has 11 palatal ridges per side in the hard palate and also the incisive papilla is found surrounding the dental pulvino. This information is relevant and corresponds to a report on the specific knowledge of this species, which is endemic, vulnerable, and protected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irresponsible dog and cat ownership and lack of knowledge about the diseases they transmit can put people's health at risk and make it difficult to implement control programs. The aim of the present study was to describe companion animal ownership and knowledge and practices related to zoonosis exposure among villagers in La Coipa district, Cajamarca, Peru, in 2019. The study, undertaken on a survey basis, collected information on the characteristics of dog and cat ownership, as well as knowledge and practices regarding exposure to zoonoses from companion animals, biting accidents, and the presence of stray dogs. A total of 280 people were interviewed: 46.4% from urban areas and 53.6% from rural areas. Respectively, 70.7% and 50.7% owned dogs and cats. The person: dog ratio was 3 and person: cat ratio was 5. The main use of the dog was as a guardian and of the cat was as a biological rodent controller. The 83.3 % of dog owners vaccinated their dogs against rabies. 64.4% controlled the reproduction of dogs and cats by confinement. 60.9% stated that they had suffered a dog bite. The 98.2% indicated that stray dogs were a problem and 70% considered that these dogs had owners. It is concluded that the population studied requires training in pet ownership to improve animal welfare, as well as to reduce the exposure of people to zoonosis, bite accidents and environmental contamination. FERAL dogs , *ANIMAL culture , *APPLICATION stores , *EMPATHY , *DESIGN thinking , *DOGS - Abstract
Dog abandonment number in the Ciudad Juárez streets, grows exponentially day by day. The problem of the high number of stray dogs not only in Ciudad Juárez but throughout Mexico is that there are no appropriate means to promote respect and care culture for these animals, an example of which is that schools do not it try to inculcate values towards these living beings and there are no programs that teach how to take care of an animal either. Generally, the causes of abandonment is the lack of empathy and sensitivity towards another living being, because there is no respect culture or harmony from people towards animals. In this work we present the survey and evaluation of various apps related to lost and / or stray dogs that can help people who have lost a dog or who would like to adopt one, as well as report any abandoned dog. Based on the analysis of the existing apps in both Google Play and App Store and identifying the lack of a sensible and integrated approach supported by ICTs, a concept app is proposed, which includes eight sections with information and reporting mechanisms, that will aid in society's sensitization about the problematic and support to these animals through different means, such as responsible ownership. Objective. To estimate the zoonotic parasites prevalence in feral dog feces in Puerto Escondido. Material and methods. The fecalism frecuency was estimated in ten zones. To identify the parasites parasitological flotation and direct smear methods were used. The parasitic prevalence was estimated in the canine feces. Results. Al l the zones presented canine fecalism. The parasitic prevalence in the feces was 73.33%. The parasites with the highest prevalence were Toxocara canis (47.78%),Ancylostoma caninum (17.88%),and Dipylidium caninum (13.89%). Conclusion.Canine fecalism comes from strayed and owned dogs. 66.66% of the parasites found in the dog feces are zoonotics. The factors associated to this problem are the suburban habitat, waste mishandling and nil tenure of stray dogs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Monitoring introduced species is an important management tool in order to preserve native species. The aim of this study was to monitor the feral dog's population in Isla de Cedros and to identify actual and potential threats of their presence over the native mastofauna. Data were collected at two sampling areas of the island, the Northeast Coast (CNE) and the Central-South Region (RCS). Dog's distribution pattern and density was assess using a non-invasive method based on scat counts along transect surveys and relative density (R) and faecal relative abundance index (fRAI) were estimated. Dog's diet composition was evaluated by scat analysis. Both R and fRAI were significant greater (P < 0.05) in the CNE than in the RCS. The results showed that feral dogs are feeding from at least three endemic terrestrial mammal species (the mule deer, the brush rabbit, and the Anthony's pocket mouse) and two pinnipeds species (the northern elephant seal and the California sea lion). With this study provide a useful baseline for future comparison and monitoring and control purposes. Nevertheless, it is necessary to conduct studies about the dog's feeding behavior to measure their predatory activity and to assess the associated damage level. Also, due to the fact that interactions between dogs and pinnipeds appeared frequently and because they are phylogenetically related, the greatest threat of the dog's presence is that it could be a disease vector, with serious health outcomes for the wildlife. Introduction. Dog bites in countries as Mexico are a serious public health problem. In Mexico City roam the streets more than two million stray dogs. This has resulted in many cases of attacks to both children and adults, bites are more common in the face and the skull of children under seven years old. However visceral injuries from this cause are extremely rare. Report of the case: We present the case of a two-year-old boy who suffered two stomach tears, caused by a stray dog bite who was tied in a store while walking with his mother. We performed laparotomy and primary repair of the stomach. The postoperative recovery was uneventful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
