MEDICAL personnel , *QUALITY of life , *ORAL hygiene , *DISEASE management , *TOOTH eruption - Abstract
Tooth decay is a widespread disease that damages the tooth and causes pain. Its development is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including the consumption of cariogenic foods, inadequate oral hygiene practices, and the presence of specific microorganisms. These factors are particularly pronounced in populations with lower socioeconomic status and cultural differences. However, despite various strategics aimed at reducing its prevalence, including those influenced by socioeconomic factors, the effectiveness of these efforts is limited. This results in a decrease in life quality for patients. Therefore, the objective of this research was to explore the effectiveness on diagnosis and early intervention in controlling tooth decay. Through a narrative review of PubMed publications between 2014 and 2023. Using keywords such as diagnosis, intervention, caries, and strategics, we selected twenty articles that met the criteria. The literature analyzed provides evidence of the effectiveness of early intervention in managing the disease, emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach involving all healthcare personnel, even before the eruption of the tooth. We conclude that clinical visual and tactile diagnosis, combined with early disease management, constitute one of the most accurate strategies for controlling dental decay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Foundation: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease with a high prevalence in South America, which requires proper diagnosis, optimal management and prevention measures supported by constantly updated scientific evidence. Objective: to carry out a comparative analysis between the Global Initiative for Asthma and the South American guidelines for the diagnosis, management and prevention of asthma in pediatric patients. Methods: descriptive observational study that compares the 2023 Global Initiative for Asthma guideline with national guidelines from the South American countries Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru, in the following parameters: diagnostic recommendations, management recommendations and prevention strategies. Results: differences were found in prevention and education recommendations in the guides analyzed, while the Global Initiative for Asthma and some South American guides mention prevention measures, other guides do not mention them or have limited information in this regard. In auxiliary tests, all guidelines mention performing spirometry to evaluate lung function, but there are differences with the inclusion of other tests, such as the allergy test or the measurement of exhaled nitric oxide. Conclusions: Greater standardization and updating of South American guidelines is required to guarantee adequate and consistent management of asthma in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DISEASE management , *RALSTONIA solanacearum , *BANANAS , *GRAM-negative bacteria , *DATABASES , *VACCINATION , *AGAR , *TETRAZOLIUM - Abstract
The species Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi, race 2, which causes bacterial hereque or moko in musaceae, constitutes a taxonomically complex unit that exhibits a wide genetic, physiological, serological and host range diversity. For this reason, two strains (R4 and R5) selected for their pathogenicity were identified and characterized. For this, 27 samples from 10 symptomatic plants were processed, from which colonies of irregular shape, flat elevation, mucoid appearance, thick edges, cream color and reddish central pigmentation of different intensities were obtained, using selective culture media such as nutrient agar and tetrazolium. Microscopic observations determined the presence of pure colonies, characterized as Gram-negative with straight and curved rods. Pathogenicity tests performed on healthy plants inoculated with the two strains by infiltration resulted in the characteristic symptomatology of the disease. For molecular identification, the universal primers U1 and U2 were used, which amplified a 996 bp band that, when sequenced and compared with the GeneBank® database, revealed 80.58% identity and 92% coverage in isolate R4, and 81.74% identity and 82% coverage for isolate R5. In addition, the specific primers OLI1 and Y2 were used, which amplified a band of 288 bp, allowing the identification of the samples studied as R. solanacearum. These isolates can be used in different breeding programs to search for tolerance to this pathogen and to generate strategies for the integrated management of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: People with low vision need a vision rehabilitation process that allows them to optimize their remaining vision and thus mitigate the impact of the disability. Objective: To describe the conditions for access to vision rehabilitation in Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area. Materials and Methods: A collective case study was conducted by taking elements from phenomenology. The theoretical position of Andersen and collaborators was assumed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 patients and professionals involved in care and rehabilitation residing in municipalities in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga. The analysis was done in three stages: discovery, coding, and interpretation of the data. Results: Two categories emerge from the study: 1) Vision rehabilitation: An incipient issue, and 2) People with low vision experience in low vision management care processes; the latter with the following subcategories: Failures in the identification and orientation to low vision management and difficulties in attending clinical care and accessing devices. Discussion: Describing the conditions for accessing rehabilitation services can contribute to designing intervention strategies to address the identified barriers. Conclusions: The consequences of low vision can be mitigated by accessing rehabilitation processes; however, in the four participating municipalities, people face multiple barriers to rehabilitation. This situation evidences the need to establish mechanisms that allow people with visual impairments to exercise their right to health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is characterized by different symptoms, so the experience varies from person to person. Dodd's Conceptual Model of Symptom Management addresses this aspect that requires testing within nursing practice. Objective: to test the postulates of the symptom experience dimension of Dodd's Conceptual Model of Symptom Management in persons with acute coronary syndrome. Methods: theoretical testing by means of structural equations. A total of 256 individuals with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome, selected by stratified probability sampling, participated. Clinical and sociodemographic data were collected, and symptom assessment and response were measured with five valid instruments. Statistical analysis was performed with absolute adjustment, incremental adjustment and parsimony adjustment from which a structural equation model was derived. Results: the bidirectional relationship between symptom severity (assessment) and decision making (symptom response) was tested. A model was formed that explains 44% of the variance on decision making. This variable is also influenced by other variables such as cognitive evaluation and personal control. Conclusion: this conceptual model allowed us to understand the dimension of symptom experience in patients with acute coronary syndrome, proving its postulates in practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CATCH crops , *PHYTOPHTHORA cinnamomi , *TRICHODERMA harzianum , *AVOCADO , *CROP management , *DISEASE management - Abstract
The Montes de María subregion is one of the largest avocado producers in the Caribbean region. In recent years, avocado crops in the subregion have shown a decrease due to the disease called avocado sadness caused by the fungus Phytophthora cinnamomi, which can be controlled through the main use of chemical agents, however, they cause environmental problems. For this reason, species of the genus Trichoderma have become an alternative to replace the application of chemicals in crops due to their multiple mechanisms of action such as antibiosis, mycoparasitism, competition for space and nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate in vitro the inhibitory activity of native strains of Trichoderma spp. against P. cinnamomi and to molecularly identify the strains of Trichoderma spp. Trichoderma spp. was caught in avocado crops present in the municipalities of Chalan and Ovejas by means of precooked rice trap crops. Once the isolates were purified in the laboratory, the in vitro antagonism test was performed in dual culture medium PDA-V8 against P. cinnamomi. The isolates that presented inhibition against the pathogen were DNA extracted using the DNeasy Plant Mini kit® in order to amplify the tef1 gene by PCR. A total of 30 strains of Trichoderma spp. were isolated, of which 9 were inhibited by mycoparasitism. These were molecularly identified as Trichoderma harzianum and T. viride. Both species present a broad spectrum for the control of pathogens, which have been used for the management of diseases in crops of economic interest and show preliminary results of inhibitory activity against P. cinnamomi. HEALTH of farmers ,PLANT growth ,ORGANIC acids ,PLANT capacity ,AGRICULTURAL productivity ,DISEASE management ,BIOFERTILIZERS - Abstract
Bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas inhabit a wide variety of environments, which is a reflection of their diverse metabolic capacity, this has allowed them to adapt to variable environmental conditions, also, this genus is considered ambivalent due to the fact that some species establish beneficial relationships with plants and others pathogenic relationships with plants, animals and humans. In the present work, we focus on the positive impact that this bacterial genus has in the agricultural field, due to its capacity as a plant growth-promoting bacterium (PGPB), being one of the best options as a plant and soil inoculant, to improve plant growth and disease management, through the wide range of metabolites that the beneficial strains are capable of producing, bacteria of this genus have been identified with diazotrophic capacity, producing antibiotics, auxins, siderophores, cellulolytic enzymes, organic acids for phosphorus solubilization and promotion of induced systemic resistance against phytopathogens, which makes them ideal in agricultural production either for biocontrol or biofertilization, likewise, their use does not affect the environment or the health of farmers. With the Triumph of the Revolution, the role of women on Cuban society took a different course. At Cuban universities, where thousands of professionals are integrally trained, our students have stood out in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. ¨Cujaeñas¨, in particular, 71 young students from the School of Chemical Engineering, have been incorporated on different tasks until April 2021 in Havana. This project characterizes the impact of these young women's participation on caring patients with the disease and on management of the country's processes and resources in front of an imminent crisis. The study included many young women's experiences because they dedicated their time and effort to the pandemic confrontation. The humanistic spirit of Cuban youth was demonstrated. Our youth perceive today, their support to the country as an opportunity to profess their self-awareness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: To review medical literature with the proposal of identifying promising new treatments against smoldering multiple myeloma. METHOD: A search was made in PubMed of MeSH terms about smoldering multiple myeloma. RESULTS: A total of 196 results was obtained, and after their evaluation, 8 studies were included to carry out this review. Administration of lenalidomide, lenalidomidedexamethasone, or cafilzomib-lenalidomide-dexamethasone have been associated with increased disease-free survival time, or progression to a clonal phase. CONCLUSIONS: To date, administration of lenalidomide or lenalidomide-dexamethasone is suggested as a promising treatment to stop the progression of smoldering multiple myeloma. However, there is no clinical practice guideline to suggest its use yet, so it is recommended that more high-quality clinical trials be conducted in the future with focus on its utility to treat this relatively novel disease. Background: The article summarizes the process of elaboration of the Clinical Practice Guide (CPG) for the management of cancer patients. The elaboration process was carried out with the participation of a multidisciplinary team of assisting physicians, methodologists and various external reviewers (specialists with mastery in the methodology and the subject). The prioritization of PICO questions was carried out by the GPC Elaboration Group (GEG), after which 05 PICO questions were concluded. To answer the questions, a systematic search of CPGs, systematic reviews and primary studies was carried out. The "GRADE" methodology and the guidelines of national regulations were used to formulate recommendations. Twelve recommendations were made (ten strong and two weak), 5 points of good clinical practice, 04 consensus tables on the management of cancer pain. The topics that covered the recommendations for pain management in cancer patients were: early treatment intervention, analgesic therapy in mild to moderate pain and moderate to severe pain, neuropathic pain and non-pharmacological interventions. PRIMARY health care , *CARDIOVASCULAR diseases risk factors , *DISEASE risk factors , *DISEASE management , *CARDIOVASCULAR diseases - Abstract
HEARTS in the Americas is the regional adaptation of the World Health Organization's Global Hearts Initiative, which will be the model for risk management for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in primary health care in the Region of the Americas by 2025. It has already been implemented in 21 countries and 1045 primary health care centers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. It takes a public health and health systems approach to systematically introduce simplified interventions at the primary health care level and focuses on hypertension as a clinical entry point. This paper introduces a new, improved application (app), the main component of which is the calculator for CVD risk and hypertension management. The paper summarizes the risk assessment approach and the methodology used by the World Health Organization to update its cardiovascular risk charts in 2019; describes the app, its use, functionality and validation process; and provides a set of practical recommendations for optimizing CVD risk and hypertension management by using the app in clinical practice. The HEARTS app is a powerful tool to improve the quality of care provided in primary health settings. The creation and dissemination of the HEARTS app is an essential step in the journey towards eliminating preventable CVD in the Americas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
