This study aims to identify and analyze the main research streams on digital safety and online privacy related to higher education students. Students are at risk of cybercrime, including online harassment, identity theft, and exposure to inappropriate content. A systematic literature review is conducted on digital security, cybersecurity, Internet security, online safety, and use of digital technologies. The results show that publications on digital security for higher education students have increased consistently during the last two decades. The main research streams are: digital risk and student perspectives, digital children, digital teenagers, online harassment, and digital behavior. In conclusion, this study provides a wide assessment on digital security for university students and highlights the importance of future research on improving awareness and safety on digital environments for teenagers.
